Pros: Good place for a buffet meal. The soft serve was good. Flavour wise it was good. The space could use a little fresh up to give more life and then this would be a 5 star location for dinner.

We were extremely disappointed at the quality of the food. Most of it was cold and greasy and most dishes were close to empty even though we were there during the dinner hour. When asked by staff if everything was okay we said no and explained the cold food and empty dishes. The staff member handed us the bill and said have a good night. We do NOT recommend. We will never go back.

Compared to similar competitors at same price of $18.99+gst, the lunch buffet lacked quality and variety. Salad bar featured a small bowl of chopped iceberg Lettuce, a small selection of Kraft brand salad dressing, a few marble cheese cubes and some basic condiments. Dessert bar offerings, in my humble opinion, catered to small children. Looked around restaurant and couldn t see any. We were in the area and googled Chinese buffet and that s how we wound up here for lunch. This was our first and last time. Sincerely, Journeyman Red Seal Chef.

Food was really good, I really liked their chow mein, sweet and sour pork. I think their wonton is homemade andni beleive their cooking is authentic with no msg. Price is 22.99 per adult, 2.99 for children and infants are free.

I used to like Starlight once and a while but after tonight I wont be back. My 6 year old daughter vomited 3 times after eating here tonight and I have a very upset stomach and am bordering vomiting myself, I also got my daughter a plate of fries while we where there and they tasted like they had been out all day and where cold. We came in at 445pm and it appeared that most of the food had been out well before we arrived, Im not sure but likely from lunch which is probably why we are both sick. I would like a refund for tonights meal.

The honey garlic chicken wings were amazing, best I have had in long time. Pan fired dumplings were boiled, very thick wrapper and filling tasted like boiled meat with no flavour. Spring rolls were crispy on outside but mushy on inside no flavour. Won ton soup was okay could use more flavour

I recently dined at Startlight Chinese Food and opted for their buffet. I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional service provided by the staff. The food was incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor, making each bite a delight. The restaurant itself was clean and inviting, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. I highly recommend Star Lite Chinese Food for anyone craving delicious Chinese cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere.

These people are really nice and friendly. They have a great buffet and we like to visit each time we come down from the Yukon.

This was the absolute worst food I ve ever eaten. This food was days old and my daughter got food poisoning from it. We were a group for a bday party and we all were disgusted. Hot/cold mixed food which is super unsafe. Will never be back!

This place is awful! The worst food ever and we got sick from eating here! I ll never go here ever again and I suggest you all save your money and don t do here! So disgusting, old, gross food! They charge almost $22 a person for buffet and none of it fresh ! Super disappointing

We didnt let some of the not so great reviews stop us from checking this place out. It turned out to be awesome. Food was fresh, and flavourful, they were so kind and engaged with both my children (toddler and infant). Checked in on us frequently, made us feel welcome. Very pleased with the service. Notable foods to mention-grilled chicken, chicken wings, beef and brocolli, ginger beef. And my somewhat picky toddler, was devouring the wonton soup, along with his dad and Grandpa. Only thing I wish they had, was a baby change table Kid-friendliness: Their engagement with the whole family, talking and conversing. Brought my son more chicken because he was enjoying it so much, and then ice cream too.

We decided to try your buffet again as the last time we had lunch there it was just mediocre. A couple of weeks ago we tried it again and wow we were really impressed, wonton soup was above and beyond and the Chop Suey was so fresh. It was like they had a new chef or the ones that are still there decided they loved to cook again. Will definitely go back again.

This was our first time at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and the food was actually quite good. The decor was aged but clean but I have to say the food and service were quite good so we will be back.

Honestly this restaurant does not deserve 1 star from me. I am so disappointed in this terrible restaurant that sells what is different from what they have advertised on their menu. The order says I ordered fried rice with shrimp, green onions, peas and carrots and what I received is a half mixed marshy rice with some miserable looking peas and shrimp and a truck load of salts with none of the other mentioned vegetables in it. It is like they just warmed up some leftovers that people left on the table after eating the nice vegetables from it and warmed it up for me. To think I ordered to servings is even more annoying.

The food was hot when it arrived. The order was accurate. The prices went up and the portion size went down. Mixed vegetables was 90% celery. Too bad. I used to really like this place.

The food is fine, the restaurant is fine, the service was great. Starlight isn t anything to rave about but it hits the spot when it comes to buffet style Chinese food. All the usual dishes where there with a few I didn t expect like the cheese wonton. That was a pretty tasty surprise. Otherwise it s straight out of the North American Chinese textbook. Buffet has enough variety to suit most, along with a salad bar, soup area and desserts. There are some questionable things regarding the restaurant itself like having the island in the middle for the tills also be storage for cases of pop and stacks of cups just waiting to fall over. Half the restaurant has the lights off and seems to be used as storage for other essentials which makes me question. If all of that is out on the floor, what s stacked up in the back? One look at the bathrooms or peek into the kitchen area will give you the information you need. Though clean, this place is showing it s age. A makeover is required and not only in the seating area. This is clearly a family owned business, as our meal was minding down and we were one of the last in the restaurant the whole staff sat down at a round table to share a meal together. This is a wholesome moment that can resonate with anyone who has a family. They are doing what they can in a market that s very hard to navigate. Though my family does not have Chinese often rest assured we would gladly step foot in here again, and I look forward to any renovations or upkeep they maintain in the future.

Used to like this place. But they now charge a mandatory 15% service fee for a buffet. Like really - 15% charge on or food and drinks to bring us a couple drinks? Obviously, we wont be back any longer. edit to respond to owners response: that information doesnt appear on their website, wasnt communicated when booked on the phone, and neither when we arrived. It was casually mentioned to one of our guests (not to me, who booked the table) when we had started our meals.

We had the buffet and the food was excellent as well the staff was friendly etc. There was no mandatory tip of 15%, you could select a custom amount or no tip. We will eat here again when we are in Calgary again.

When I was passing through the Airdrie area, and this Chinese restaurant is worth a visit. This is my second visit to this restaurant (not close to my home). The quality is still as good as ever. I passed by the Airdrie area and this Chinese restaurant is worth coming to. 2022-12 I ate three plates of food + dessert + ice cream . This price is very good. The taste is also good. The owner is a nice person. ---- I had three big plates +dessert+ice cream . This price/performance ratio is very good. It tastes good too. The boss is a very enthusiastic person.

Worst chinese food I have ever eaten. The chowmein was dry, bland with no sauce and the veggies were soggy, it had zero flavour. The hot and sour soup had an off taste. I binned the majority of it and felt ill after I ate it. never again. wow, i just read the 1* reviews... the responses from management are insulting, rude and very unprofessional to say the least. Come on Airdrie, eat better, this place needs to disappear.

Came to Starlight on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The food was better than any other chinese buffet I have been to, the service was AMAZING, a lot of different options for veggies/meat/noodles/desserts, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend trying it out.

Im addicted, what more can I Say?

Ordered chicken chowmein(thin noodle) came out as partially cooked sparse chicken pieces, thick noodles that too very poorly cooked- worse than 2 min cup noodles. Ordered chicken noodle soup- well there was no soup, no veggies, no chicken just a container full of boiled thick noodles and yes worse than a 2 min instant noodle cup. Have eaten chinese food so many times but this was the worse one, end up throwing 75% of the food which I hate. 25% =1 star is for Ginger chicken which was not bad. Spring rolls - again partially cooked/fried on a low flame and was dripping oil. Thank you very much!

Worst experience.

This is an update since eating there again hoping it would be better! It was absolutely pitiful. Got there and almost nothing on the buffet. They dont even bother to restock it and they expect to pay $20 a person. I saw them several just bringing out bags and bags of to go orders and they dont care the people eating there. Absolutely horrible. Want better quality and actual service with people that care, go to Airdrie Wok. Will 100% not be back, given up on this place Original review: If the quality was better then its warrant the $20 buffet price but its doesnt and probably wont be back (I know prices for products have gone up but this is just disappointing)

Decided we wanted chinese. First time in airdrie so this is where we went. Lots of pickups but only 2 pairs of people including us. The food wasnt bad and there was selection but unf next day we didnt feel well. My wife worse than i. I dont know why, just this is how we felt. Only lasted the day. Dont know if i will visit again. The staff were friendly snd took care of us as expected for water and taking away plates and the food didnt taste bad so i dont know.

The staff was very nice but unfortunately the food was awful. My husband and I both felt sick after our first plate and couldnt eat anymore. A lot of money for such a small amount we could eat 20.99 is not a lot of money unless you cant eat your dinner which myself and my husband were not able to. I have no need to call as we wont be back. And the no frills is expensive for generic brands. And I do a lot of grocery shopping at safeway

Some of our order was ok the rest was not good at all. The fried rice was good and the soup was my favorite. The rest was basically not edible. Wanted to love this place since we are new to town, but no go for us. Improve quality is the bottom line.

Okay thats it, after several years the food just gets worse! Chicken vegetable ordered , got chicken broccoli. Ordered beef vegetable , got beef broccoli , ordered wor won ton, got noodles in brown juice, no vegetables, not even broccoli! Will buy else were! Not my first or second complaint! Three strikes! Lunch buffet without drinks for the 2 of us was 45 before tip. Food was lackluster, some dishes were pretty gross. Third time going over the years and its pretty bad each time. Dont recommend, wont go back.

Best Chinese food around! Excellent service! Order or dine in!

We ordered food for 9 of us at 133$ i would have been happy with the price if the food was flavourful. I remember enjoying their food years ago but this time the food was bland and mushy. The ginger squid was a mess and the chicken in the chowmein tasted ashey. The ginger beef was alright but even that was bland and over cooked. Maybe they had an off night, it certainly wasnt what i remember from when i lived in Airdrie.

We ordered on the Skip the Dishes. I arrived to pick up my order and spoke to two friendly ladies who could not find my order and then was passed off to a very rude man. I gave him the phone number and he shrugged and said he did not have the order. I told him the four items that I had ordered and he said that he did not have the order. Again I gave him the phone number and the name that the order was under and he again claimed that he did not have my order. I left and when I was almost home my wife called to inform me that the restaurant called and said that the order was ready for pick up. My wife told the man on the phone that her husband was just at the restaurant and was told there was no order under the phone number he gave. The man on the phone said either you come pick up your food or Ill throw it in the garbage. We did not return to pick up the food. Fortunately Skip the Dishes refunded the money. There are several other Chinese restaurants in Airdrie. Order from them before resorting to ordering from Starlight.

Ordered food for 8 people for $140. Food was basically un-edible. Almond Chicken was so tough and dry it was like week old Turkey. The Sweet and Sour Pineapple Pork was mushy to the point of baby food and there was no pineapple at all in either of our two dishes. We did find limp green peppers and iron hard carrots though. The chicken chow mein was over cooked and mush and the Beef Chop Suey was barely Par. This was strike 2 as we had a similar meal from them a couple months ago. There will not be a strike 3. Time to find a new Chinese Food place to order from.

Went here for the first time tonight and we werent disappointed. The service was hands down the best service I have ever recieved at a buffet, anywhere! We were asked for our drink order, someone checked on our food quality, stopped by to talk up the dessert, to confirm the food quality again, and to ask if we needed more to drink. I have never been asked more than what I want to drink. The extra effort by staff does NOT go unnoticed! Most of the food was really great! Im surprised at some of the other reviews. The chicken balls had a great balance of dough to chicken. Neither was overwhelming. The Shanghai noodles were fantastic! Great taste and flavour! The dry ribs and chicken wings were also on point! Nice, crispy, and juicy. The chow mein was really good too! Any of the black bean, sweet and sour, teriyaki, and ginger dishes were also very yummy. I could see why some people may not like it. The texture of the meat is very soft, very tender. The outside batter on any of those items were crispy and sauced well. The wonton soup had excellent broth! I didnt get a chance to taste my wonton as I was too full by the end of my meal. We were able to squeeze in some dessert, which was typical Chinese buffet dessert. Jello, fruit, bars, tarts, and ice cream. I was really impressed with the soft serve ice cream! It could give DQ a run for their money. They also have hard ice cream if soft serve isnt your thing. The lemon tarts were really good! The only issue we encountered was that our table wasnt quite clean enough. There was a big yellow sticky spot. Easy enough to remedy though. This place left us with a great first impression and we will be coming back for the first class service!

We used to come here regularly and get the take home dinner box off the buffet. It was decent and a fair price. Went in to do that tonight and they ve not only raised the price on the box a few bucks, but the box is now only 50% of the size it has been for years. Total rip off now. I miss silver star! Response: I can appreciate food costs have gone up and to charge a couple dollars more is fine but then to do that and cut the size of the box in half, that s just ridiculous.

This was the worst experience Ive ever had at any chinese food restaurant. First of all their prices online are wrong about $30.00 difference. The food was gross.I called and mentioned my concerns and they said thank you..No apologies what so ever.They are not the best or even close to a good chinese food restaurant in Airdrie. My family and I will never eat there again I would rather go into calgary or surrounding cities

I love this place. The food is always fresh and delicious for dine in, very friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Take out is mostly great, but a couple of times the food was a bit mushy, like it was taken from the buffet left overs. Ate there once for the supper buffet and it was delicious, but a bit pricey if you dont go back for seconds, the BBQ mussels were out of this world good. Sadly, they didnt restart the lunch buffet after covid restrictions were lifted, but definitely a place to check out.

Always great quality food! We order large orders throughout the year for our staff and have never been disappointed No restaurant is going to every be 100% perfect 100% of the time. The person who wrote the review giving a one star because the last time they ordered it wasnt as warm and one item was missing, but usually it is great, needs to give their head a shake. They probably ordered late and right before closed.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!! This is one restaurant the deserves to go out of business. Placed my order 5 hours ago,knowing it would be busy. Went to pick the order up and hadnt even been started even though it had been ordered 5 hours earlier. When we finally got it, more than half of it was cold...not even warm and versa poor quality. Better Chinese food at a mall. Oh and did I mention that 4 or 5 people came in and picked up orders while we were waiting. Paid $125.00 for poor Chinese food and terrible service. Save your money and dont go here. I will be letting everyone i know about this. COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE!!!

Food is usually quite good. Today I was told no substitutions because they were busy. Doesnt seem like a sensible response to a standard and reasonable request. So I ordered from another Chinese restaurant, they are not the only game in Town.

2020-We popped in here while doing errands and the staff was fantastic, food great, and they all treated our toddler like absolute gold. 2017-Theyve upped their game, this is our go-to takeout place now. -------------------------------------------------- 2016-The buffet is good, when you can have a little of everything that looks good. Staff is always friendly. However our takeout is consistently less than awesome. Won tons have tails that are all stuck together in a gelatinous mush, and dumplings are way too doughy, and very little filling. Time to explore other options.

Honestly the second time weve eaten here! Cant wait to covid is done to test out the buffet! Amazing food we got the dinner for 3 which is more like a dinner for 6 for the amount of food that comes with it. Cant wait for my next visit

It was ALL very very sweet. The sweetness over powered any other flavors. The spicy dishes we ordered werent at all spicy. Plus, the chicken balls were basically just dough without much chicken and very very hard exterior! Good sweet and sour sauce though.
