Bones in the food was way too much, very difficult eating g with amounts of tiny bones that almost choked. Please turn down this restaurant until they learn how to cook food with boneless chickens. Any person in my shoes would been in the emergency choking on there life. Vegetarian options: None

The food was very flavourful and fresh. You get a good amount of food for your money and the environment is very welcoming and clean. The customer service is also tremendous as Shanice and Ron go above and beyond for their customers. Overall a great place as there is no deficiency in any area at this restaurant.

Me and my boyfriend ordered from here our first time the owner (I assume) was very friendly and very nice and accommodating he warned us about the wait which was close to hour but it was definitely worth it the food was delicious there were some pieces of chicken that were just cartilage but it was still pretty good the pepper shrimp was some of the best I ve ever had and the veg fried rice was packed with veggies overall very good and would try again !!!

I had a birthday celebration last weekend I needed to cater for. Of course, everyone has their opinion of where to go but one of my friends recommended Zens. Although I live in Pickering Village, I never even knew this place existed. Its truly a hidden gem! I was having almost 50 guests so needed plenty of food. I ordered 6 large family style trays; a fried rice, lo mein, veggie stir fry, chilli chicken, spicy beef and pepper shrimp. No doubt, overkill. I figured as much but they were also incredibly generous with their offerings too. I wasnt going to order the pepper shrimp but after reading all the reviews about it, I simply had to. I had no idea what to expect but was it ever good ... and INCREDIBLY spicy!! All the food was simply amazing and most guests were inquiring where I got it from so they could go themselves. Thanks for making our event really stand out. We will definitely be back; for both catering orders and everyday meals. BTW, the restaurant vibe is really nice too!

I have to say that while the chicken was awesome but the chowmien was kinda washed out and bland. I was expecting a richer more chinese taste. Regardless, when you add the price , atmosphere and attitude of the owners, as a package I will give them a 5. And will be back to try other things on the menu

This review is for the Scarborough location. Thanks to the friendly and lovely lady and uncle in the Scarbs location. You guys are amazing. The barbecue chicken with rice and peas and The Zen noodles with chicken on top were scrumptious. Absolutely worth the drive. Big up!

Really, really greasy food. If you re into that , it s good I guess but chicken wings and fish are just filled with oil and no flavour. It will be going in the garbage. Not my thing.

Visited Zen Ajax at 12:20pm on a Saturday in person and they were closed. Their opening hrs says that they open at 12pm. Disappointing. They were open online at UberEats for delivery though. Please update your opening hours for in-person orders. We also tried calling and no one answered. The food can be good but the service should speak for itself

Ordered takeout , pepper wings and shrimp were delicious and had a nice amount of heat. Fried rice was okay, low mein needs a lot of improvement , lacked flavour and a bit dry for my liking , overall a good place for guyanese chinese food

Im not even going to make the stuff up .. but I have eaten the best pepper shrimps in my life at this place today. I just cant describe how delicious it was. And their house special lowmein was awesome. We were looking for a place to eat as we were starving and we just couldnt decide but saw the zen hoarding on Kingston and drive right now. Best decision we made.

I tried the food here and its excellent. I am now a weekly customer.. they are consistent, food is not greasy, salty or spicy. Of course they supply their hot sauce For more heat. Ronnie is very kind and helpful.. Their lunch specials are great..until 3pm. Tues to Fri. Chicken fried rice, chili chicken, Chicken and brocolli, vege fried rice, and many more .. Are all delicious.

Absolutely a Gem! 10 stars. My favorite place to eat and when I say favorite I mean it. Im here at least 2-3 times a week picking up food. If you havent tried it you have no idea what youre missing and you need to either order it on uber eats or dine in. Ronnie and Lake (owners) always ensure you feel like family when you come around and create such an inviting atmosphere that you cant help but come back even if youre alone because it just feels like a home away from home. Reccomendations 1. Fried rice 2. Pepper shrimp 3. Pepper wings 4. Chilli chicken 5. Spicy beef And everything because it literally all taste amazing and is Fresh every single time.

I tried their pepper shrimp it is good and price is reasonable. Everything else is really overrated on taste an the value for what you are paying. The chicken chowmein taste good but you should opt for the option for extra chicken on top. Otherwise you need to order a chicken dish on the side. Fried rice I have had way better tasting and cheaper, it is a definite miss. The beef is not worth it at all. It is all chewy full of connective tissue and unrenderable fat. The fried chicken is not the best and I find expensive $15 for 2 full legs. We had left overs because the food was not memorable and it taste less appealing a day after. I would advise people to not get too overboard with their food, it extremely average to just pass in flavour. Also wait times are up there for take out, like an hour easy on a Saturday.

I recommend the Zen Special Fried Rice. Amazing portion size, and the taste OUT OF THIS WORLD. Tastes so fresh and has so much flavour. Could not get enough, 10/10!

The food is alright, nothing special. I seen a review on instagram, so we decided to try it. We ordered: pepper shrimp, lo mein, fried rice and short ribs The pepper shrimp is inconsistent, some shrimps had a lot of spice, while others had none Lo mein was bland Fried rice was good. Probably the best dish Short ribs are good but a small amount Definitely has room to improve.

First time trying The Zen for dinner, ordered a chilli chicken, pepper shrimp, honey garlic wings, zen special fried rice (chicken, beef, shrimp with chicken on top), zen special chow mein and the zen special lo mein. First off the guy in the front was super nice and carried himself professionally even with a rush. I had called before to ask a question and he answered them easily and straight forward. When I had reached the restaurant I asked him what he recommended as it was my first time and he asked me some questions to get a better understanding of my taste. Over all the service was excellent and the dude in the front was exceptionally nice. The food was blessed. Pepper shrimp was excellent, nice plump shrimp, just wish it had a bit more of a kick (but that s what the extra pepper is for). Chilli chicken was nice with white rice. The fried rice hit, just like a real Guyanese fried rice. The lo mein was saucy and tasty. The honey garlic wings, hit the wings craving, was saucy and decent size. The chow mein was probably the only let down, it lacked flavour and veggies but the pepper sauce definitely made up for the lack of taste. (I recommend getting the lo mein if you want a noodle dish). The chicken on top was okay, they are cut up small and I understand why (for packing) but it just dries out the chicken and some of the pieces are to slim to get a satisfying bite. Overall a great experience, great food and great service. Definitely recommend and I will be going back again. Dietary restrictions: Halal

I very much enjoy this restaurant, when I want noodles this is what I think of first. The staff is very patient when I forget what the difference between the dishes are and they have to explain it again. This is really a take out spot, you can eat in, and its enjoyable, but isnt the type of restaurant they wait on you. You get the same menu as take out, and believe they have booze. Its been very busy lately at both take out, and dine in so would order early. If your looking for a fine dining experience isnt for you, if you want really good, large portions of food that is unique to the area this is.

Ordered through uber, ordered veggie fried rice, zen special Cantonese noodles, pepper shrimp and honey garlic short ribs. The only dish I enjoyed was the pepper shrimp, the others were nothing special. I was disappointed in the noodles, i expected crunchy noodles....they should of packed the noodles separately from the sauce, meat and veggies like every other restaurant does for take out as the noodles were wet and soggy by the time we got it. The honey garlic ribs was also a big let down, there was nothing honey or garlic about the ribs! Most likely wont order from here again.

I was there for take-out and do intend to go back for a dine-in experience. The food was tasty, West Indian/Chinese. Friendly and helpful staff on hand to make your visit great. Vegetarian options: Theres a good variety of vegetarian dishes. Parking: Parking available in front of the restaurant and nearby.

The Zen special fried rice is tasty, beef short ribs is kind of less for the price and the pepper shrimp is bomb!. The store can be very busy and will take a while to get your order... but its worth the wait.

I ordered 3 items, chilli chicken Cantonese noodles(because of the Facebook adds), special fried rice and wings. You cant really go wrong with wings and fried rice, but here you can. Not only in flavour/taste but overall cost. I wanted to try this place for my birthday. I frequently go to west Indian Guyanese/Chinese places and I figured this place was piping up on my FB feed, worth giving them a try. I ordered deep fried wings, special chicken fried rice, and chilli chicken Cantonese noodles. When I got home, I noticed 3 containers of pepper sauce quarter way filled; thought maybe times are tough(lets make it back via pepper sauce...) Really, no need to be that stingy. Embarrassing, that alone upset me. Then we tried the food. Fried rice was terrible, in comparison to other similar restaurants it did not compare in any form. Chicken was stale, veggies clearly Frozen; very expensive for a bland stale dish Wings were okay, no argument there The chilli chicken Cantonese noodle was terrible. I think anyone on the street could have created it, nothing of anything that was flavourful or unique about it. Noodles under fried, chicken tasteless...no need to further elaborate. I bought 3 containers for $50 Next day(today) did my birthday. Went to spicy dragon, got 2 orders of veggie fried rice, 2 orders of Hakka chowmein and 3 orders of chilli chicken for $65... completely better deal and taste .... I would NEVER go here again I feel stupid for thinking this was good I guess I fell victim to the algorithm

Ive been going to Zen for months now. Their rice and noodle dishes are delicious and plentiful. I recently discovered that they have very reasonably priced lunch specials (Tues-Fri) that Ive been getting at least 3x a week and can honestly say has never disappointed. Very friendly staff and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere when dining in. They seem to be always out of Jerk Chicken however. Not sure if thats because its a popular item or simply a restocking issue. In any event, wish they had a larger menu offering to compete with other Caribbean restaurants in the area. Great tasting food regardless.

The food looks very appetizing however the stuff is extremely rude and lazy ..either that or the hours of operation are listed wrong .it says the place is open until 10. I tried calling in to order for take out at 9 and nobody picked up , so I drove over to the place and it s clearly open with staff sitting around watching tv , however the door was locked .knocked on the glass window to ask if they are closed and the staff just stared and laughed ..I m disappointed in the customer service as I was really looking forward to trying the food .lost a potential customer

I had to make a last minute catering order 24hrs only because my previous caterer cancelled on me last minute. They honestly came through and was able to do my order on time and the food was amazing. Everyone at the gathering loved the food especially the pepper shrimp they had the perfect amount of spice. Thank you so much for helping me last minute food was amazing. I ordered the veggie chow mein, veggie spring rolls, deep fried wings, and pepper shrimp and everything was finished at the end of the event. Everyone took home left overs. This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend for the catering service for my birthday party, so I made the call. I was told by the restaurant, that the large vegetable Chow mein and Fried rice was good for 15 to 18 people per tray, but these people dont play! The trays were filled mountain high with deliciousness . The large trays of cut up fried chicken and fried chicken wings were filled to the brims. OMGoodness! The half tray of huge Pepper Shrimps and mix Chinese vegetables was mouth watering delicious! Surpassed my expectations! I had catered for 30 guests but there was more than enough food for 180 people, or more, without a doubt! (Depends upon your guests appetite) I had to ask my guests to pack food to go to last them for a week, or so. They were excited because they were extremely happy with the taste and presentation of all the dishes. They even asked for the information of this restaurant for future orders and visits. The price was right, way cheaper than other places that had given me quotes, before this restaurant was highly recommended. I was convinced that this was my go to place, because during the 7 minutes while talking to Lake about my order, the other phone rang 4 times with him taking 4 orders from other customers. I smiled about that, knowing that they were doing something right! On the day of the party, the female order desk had a friendly voice when she made a kind reminder call to say that the food was ready for pick up. I told her that were on our way. Thank you all at Zen Restaurant for making my birthday event an enjoyable, memorable one and your food was a hit as well. Keep up the good work guys!

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and Finally Yesterday I got the opportunity. I tried the chili chicken on Chicken Fried Rice and what can I say I loved the whole meal. Everything is so tasty and as being abit, of a picky eater with peppers I didnt feel the peppers at all, the whole disk completes and blends out. I hope to return sometimes soon and try some other dishes on the menu. Also while on a side note the the staff is super friendly and absolutely amazing and if you want the food to be extra spicy you can ask to add an extra kick to the dish. But be warned I was told customers who ask for it to be more spicy tend to not order it that way again . My recommendation is to keep it orginal because I loved all the flavours.

Seen some great reviews so I thought I d check out the place. The customer service was great. This was my first time at Zen I did a take out order. I had the chilli chicken with fired rice both were burnt and had the black bun up pieces mixed up in everything. The fried rice with chicken on top not so good, the chicken had no taste and was a bit to red in colour for me the fried rice only had carrots and beans. Wasn t happy at all I ended up through the food away.

Drove here from Toronto got recommended this stop came there only to be told the kitchen is close at 9 pm it was 9.05 pm .. That was really sad but it s fine .

I honestly don t like the customer service at your location an the manager needs to train their staff some customer service skills didn t appreciate how he told us that they were closed and not taking any more orders 5 minutes after sitting down when it was only 9:08 that was very unprofessional.after driving one hour

The food is fresh, and high quality ingredients. Portions are average and meat portions are small. Heres the kicker. No seasoning at all. The food could of been fantastic as all the foundations were stellar. Also not sure how all the ratings are perfect as its a brand new restaurant and there was no seasoning, especially for Carribean style not sure whats going on here.

Tried this place for the first time and ordered the chilli chicken and beef fried rice. Everything was tasty and we went back within two weeks to try the pepper fish and jerk chicken! The pepper fish is perfectly fried and fluffy yet crispy. Really enjoyed this recent meal from Zen and again looking forward to ordering from Zen this weekend for the super bowl. I m not even a super bowl fan but it s just another excuse to order from Zen because they have specials going on! Love that I have a local place to get my West Indian cravings fix. Oh and their pepper sauce that is provided with your meal is bang on!

The little factors that this restaurant considered that stood out to me is that it is conveniently accessible to the highway! I also loved the fact that Chetty s Hot Sauces are available whenever I am short on supply at home. And the ambiance is very sophisticated and classy! Loving the look of the restaurant! I first read about The Zen in the local Ajax News Advertiser. That was Thursday, December 3, 2020. Ever since I read that article about a new Ajax restaurant that fuses Caribbean with Chinese, Ive been hooked. The Zen not only offers good food in a variety of dishes, they are also well schooled in hospitality and excellent customer service. I met Chris Chetty and Ronnie and found them to be humble, respectful and professional. Since my first visit to The Zen, Ive told my family and friends about this hidden gem in Ajax. I am already looking forward to my next visit. I purchased a number of their hot sauces and found the jerk chicken and Lo Mein dishes to be my favs, so far.

This place differentiates itself from the rest just by a few simple things. I wont tell you guys what they are. Just go see for yourself. A true hidden gem in Durham that brings back that class Ive been missing in fusion food. The freshness and menu will make you come back for more and absolutely blows away the competition by a longshot. Goodluck to the others because Thezenrestaurant.ca is here to stay.

Durham region during the pandemic have lost a few decent places and have gained some great restaurants within the last year. This by far to me is on top of my list as my first experience yesterday was fantastic. Easy to order, reasonable prices, customer services was excellent and the food is something Durham is missing. If you have not tried this spot yet you are absolutely missing out. Best fried rice, chow mein and chicken wings I have had in a while. The crew on hand gave me some great suggestions for my next visit that I will certainly add on upon my next visit! I m very very up set and very disappointed with my customer service at Zen. I reordered food for my daughter birthday from Zen when i went to pick up my food they said they forgot to put the order in ,with no empathy or offer to help or responsibly to help to get my order done as soon as possible they said i can pick it up at 7.30 ????? excuse me ??? when i have my guest waiting to eat at 3.30 this place do not have any protocol or customer service . i know we all having a hard time in these trying times but come on customer service should be the key . sad i will never buy anything from this place they have no customer appreciation skills or knowledge to deal with any kind of situation it s all about money !

My family and I order from Zen often. The food is made fresh to order and it definitely makes a difference. The lunch specials are delicious and cost effective. You get so much food in each order. Also, there isnt anything on their regular menu that I dont like. The short ribs are so good and really set them apart from other West Indian restaurants.

I dont usually review anything. But I had to becuase I read reviews of this place and they were really good. So I tried the food. Ordered pepper shrimp for 13 dollars tasted great not worth the portion . Ordered the special house fried rice. Its suppose to have shrimp beef pork chicken. I only got chicken in my rice. And the chicken on top of the rice was like pigeon legs.it was a small portion . Rice was missing seasoning Pick up was great the person who was handing your your food and taking the money was very nice

Knowing one of the owners, I had to make a trip to this place and pick up an order of food. To whomever is reading this, it is totally worth it! The owners that were present were kind and inviting just like the atmosphere. It is spacious, there is plenty of parking and above all else, the food is delicious. There is so many items on the menu to sample but the good thing about that is that you have the opportunity to visit this place over and over again. Another plus is that live DJs play at the restaurant so its never dull and the environment is always lively. Looking forward to my next visit!

Their food is very fresh and tasty. Best fried rice on the Eastside!!!!! If your a fried rice lover you gotta try Zens fried rice you wont regret it!!

The Cantonese noodles are the best noodles Ive tried from any other restaurant. The fried rice is ok. Overall, great experience and would definitely recommend.

Was recommended to try by a coworker and glad I did. Portions and quality of food are great. Believe I spoke with the owner when picked up food, very friendly. Pepper shrimp is a good pick if you like spice. Will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu!

I realized after ordering from them more times than Im willing to share, I had to come and leave a review. The food is consistently cooked well, hot, and delicious. Whether a lazy Friday night in or to entertain the quantity and taste seriously cant be beat.

I wanted to switch things up this time and not review after the first try. I became aware of The Zen Caribbean restaurant on TikTok, and I have to say, why did TikTok do that to me. Its a Caribbean spot with a Hakka/Asian type feel. I have now had Zen five times and his place is not just good its f*$&ing delicious. Their chicken fried rice lit. Veggie Cantonese fried noodles amazing, the chilli chicken, a bit spicy, but Im a wimp lol and its super flavorful. I recently tried the pepper shrimp, and all I can say is, it just may be better than Wah Toos. If you know, you know the prices are fair but a bit on the pricey side, in saying that its worth every penny. The customer service is legit regardless of when you call, they will time it out, so it ready when you arrive. The pickup is a breeze and at times they will bring it directly to your car. Overall 10/10. Highly recommend the eatery, its my new favourite.

Happy Earthstrong to me Just steps after getting my hair did I thought, Ive been hearing raves about Zen from a neighbor. She said whenever they hold parties and order from Zen every newbie gets hooked! So, being steps away I decided to treat myself to a lunch special (great affordable rate). Not only was the packaging neat and classy (as with the decor!)the was portion awesome, my veggie stir fry with rice was absolutely DELICIOUS! Fresh, flavourful, not greasy or salty, simply the perfect balance on my palette. When the customer service is amazing too, its all a win win for this sista right here! Ill so be returning & reccomending!

Low Food Quality ! Cut Up Chicken is not chicken, Just Look at it ! Old Crunchy Meatless Yuk. I can tell u their 5Star ratings are fake .. This is not caribbean or chinese food . JUST QUICK MONEY .. wont be around for long i guarantee it . Ajax is a small town , word gets around fast and will wonder why your not selling food . GOOD LUCK trying to fool peoples taste buds

Good food...needs to update their times. Dont show online you close at 10pm then when you call for takeout say your kitchen closes at 9pm.

Great food! Hands down. Ive tried so many Caribbean/Chinese restaurants and this is by far the best. The food always tastes fresh and delicious. Most places the food is oily and greasy but not here. The workers are always very friendly and polite. Keep up the good work guys!

I love the food, especially the Zen special fried rice, it is so good, the best I ve had period. Customer service is also very good, picked up my order and there was a minor mixup, called to let them know and they insisted on making it right even though I told them it was ok. My order was corrected and delivered to my door in no time, hard to beat service, what more can you ask for. Would highly recommend, give them a try and I m sure you will agree with me

Friday September 17th, 2021 Decided to try a different restaurant for lunch. When i walked in the young lady behind the counter cutting up lemons & limes with her hands, was not wearing gloves or her face mask. Two other male came from the kitchen not wearing their face mask One had his hanging around his neck the other didnt have one with him. Customers came in who seem to be owner friends not wearing face mask. I ordered the Chicken & Broccoli on white rice $5.99 Lunch Specials . It was nothing special...the chicken tasted like frozen meat; had no firmness. Was as if they steam chicken to defrost and added the sauce .

Amazing portions and just great tasting food with a West Indian fusion. For anyone in doubt dont be... give it a try you will not be disappointed. Not your average menu either.

Phone rings.. staff answers very polite and customer service friendly. Orders the chill shrimp (10/10). Orders the ginger chicken with chili chicken (10/10) and tol it off with black pudding ( first time I am eating balck pudding in Canada and US and you get the crunches of the green herb) over all 5 . The owner comes and say hi.. nice mask .. much appreciated. How often do you get that type of interaction

This is some of the best food Ive had in recent years. I had the chow mein noodles and the spicy chicken fried rice. Both were amazing. 5 stars without hesitation.

Attended a birthday party and they ordered from here. Now I must say this was one of the best pepper shrimp I have ever had. The chicken was also great. The beef was soft and done just right. Wow. I will be driving the back roads from Markham to get food from here on the regular.

Food is cook right and clean, you will enjoy what you purchase which is rare these days.

Top notch Carribean Chinese food. Pepper shrimp, chili chicken and their house mixed rice with chicken on top is amazing. Cant wait to try their spicy beef next time. Definitely a go to if youre in Durham.

Cook is thoroughly incompetent. Service is horrendous. Asked for the chili chicken to be put on the side instead of on top of the rice. Apparently the cook doesnt know how to place the food next to rice instead of on top!?

This place gets a star because it does not allow zero. This place is total bait and switch. First there were fruit flies there last night, that was only the beginning, the waitress brought Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils, then she brought our 3 items in takeout containers when we were there to eat.We took the food to go,,the food was bland no spice and it was way overpriced. I will never go there. Dont be fooled by the pictures online. all those positive reviews must be familiar and friends BEWARE
