Tried a couple of other popular places in Durham and nothing compares in terms of taste!

Good overall experience, fresh food, and friendly staff.

Coleslaw portion is ridiculously small.

Pre-ordered halibut and chips on Uber Eats yesterday for delivery today between 4:30pm - 5:00pm. Received confirmation from you today at 3:15pm that ordered was going to be prepared and delivered between 4:30pm - 5:00pm. Then received a cancellation at 4:07pm. What is the point of pre-ordering if you are just going to cancel? Won t bother with your restaurant again.

I ordered 1 fish n chips Halibut and i added another piece of fish . I was charged 42 dollars with tax. When i asked the waitress she told me 1 piece is 20 dollars. The taste was also oilly and the behaviour was rude n arrogant.

Really good fish and chips...lived in ajax for 6 years, but this is the first time Im visiting. Price is worth it for the fish and they even let you know where the fish comes from

The battered fish was good but inside was not seasoned and tasty. Only 1 piece with a lot of fries and no side salad was pricey .

Amazing fast, friendly service. The quality of food is well thought out. Prices are good and the place is so clean. A must to try!!!!

Went to halibut house last week have been to other halibut houses but not the one in Ajax for at least 10 years . Anyways ordered the halibut for me and my wife presentation was good portion size I thought was the lunch size but was actually the full size and a little greasy but did finish it . Paid what I thought was not worth 50 dollars I guess if the portion would have been better and not as greasy would have gave a 4 star sorry halibut house will not see me again

Had fish and chips daily special,sole in light batter with chips.freshly prepared. Quick and friendly service. Its a fish and chips restaurant standard atmosphere,very clean.

Was not impressed that they forgot to put my dessert in my take out so I had to drive all the way back. Container they put the Halibut in leaked on my clothes. To top it off the food was that good. Very disappointed in the whole experience and it will be my first and last time at that location.

I like fish, especially cod fish. I had a very nice meal here and I will be back again and again.

The server clearly did not want to work there and showed on her face and service. She said the Cod was more fishy than the Haddock which was not true at all. The haddock was fishy and over cooked with oil. My friend asked for it to not be so oily and it still was. The place itself is a nice spot I liked the restaurant. That was pretty much the only good thing about that day.

The positives are: - Delicious fish and chips (halibut and cod) ordered - Coleslaw was great, appreciated the non-mayonaise dressing - Restaurant is extremely clean and great for dining in as there is lots of space The only negative is that we felt rushed, even though the restaurant was empty and they were processing lots of take out orders. We were not asked if we wanted coffee/tea and/or dessert, just the bill brought after our meal. A bit expensive for fish n chips

A nice quiet place for lunch. They have a nice brunch menu. Service is quick and professional. Everything I have eaten has been quite good. Casual diner style atmosphere.

I had chicken soulvaki, which may be the wrong choice as it is bit dry and wasnt comparable to others I had.

My GF and I ate dinner in the restaurant on a Friday night. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive, checked on us, and gave her personal recommendation when asked. The poutine was good, but I felt the fish was a tad overcooked. Ill chalk it up to a one-time occurrence. I would go back.

Drove from Whitby to ajax because of how good this place is. Well I wont be making that drive again. our $60 order for a box of grease was very disapointing.The fish had hardly any batter and fries were so greasy.. not sure what happened but not worth the drive.

Ordered halibut and haddock with chips. Fish was cooked perfectly and very fresh. Chips were big and plentiful. Loved the house made Tatar sauce as well! Look forward to ordering again.

This place discriminated against those who have vax receipts and those who have QRs. My dad spent 60 days in the hospital and wanted to go to this place on his first day out. He s 80 and doesn t have a QR. The was not a single soul eating there and they wouldn t let us dine in. Disgusting when you side with the government that would let your business fail, and not the side of a man who has been a loyal customer since this location opened. Shame on you!

I consistently have good experiences here. The Haddock is awesome and the service is always fast and friendly. The girls that work there are super friendly. If you have a complaint or a suggestion they will always do what they can to remedy. Has been my go to place for fish and chips for many years now. Fish and chips are very pricey so I tend to buy on Sunday/Monday and get the $10 special. Well worth it in my opinion.

$20. bucks ( $19.99) for Fish & Chips is beyond expensive. I would call it Price gouging.

Visited this restaurant for the first time. Noticed it was busy which was a good sign since our usual spot in Westney Plaza closed down. Ordered halibut and fries. Order came to ~$20.00. A little shocked at the price but thought perhaps just the general increase of cost of food etc. Took about 30 min to get out meal. When we got the order it was only the fish. A little shocked $20 was the cost just for a small piece of fish. Yes halibut is pricier but I have been to other places where you get a bigger size for less. They were gracious to add the fries but considering the fish/batter itself was not flavourful, fries were good but plain, homemade tartar sauce was not great (no packaged tartar sauce available), $20 for one small piece of fish (fries not included), I think I will continue my search for a new restaurant.

I found the cashier very rude. The fish was so greasy that my husband myself could not eat the batter. We took it off and only ate the fish inside. The only good part of the service and meal were the chips.

Terrible. $50 for 2 tastless, overcooked pieces of fish that could fit in my palm. Never going back to this location.

Had 3 orders of cod and chips special yesterday. Fish was so greasy and batter was so thin and not crispy at all. Fries were bland and soft. Will not be going back again. Tartar sauce was not house made. Terrible.

This location not gonna make any money if they open at 11am, people want breakfast before 11 not close to lunch time, this is the only location that opens so late, might as well remove your breakfast menu

I just waited over 30 minutes after my meal to simply order dessert, when the place was empty. I came in on a Monday at 3:15pm when it was not busy and just left alone like i never existed. Weird and disappointing. That will not be happening again.

Very discriminating the cashier was very rude Who decided to serve a customer who is just coming through the door before me while I was standing there waiting she completely ignored me I had to interrupt and say I was before that customer well she did not like that she took my order and had me wait 25 minutes for my take-out order customers came in white customers and got their orders before me such a racist restaurant I would never put foot in that restaurant again customer service is a appalling and this is Canada not Asia where are you treat Black people with less respect your restaurant needs to be closed down.

They have a great Sun-Mon special as well as a Wednesday special. Now they also added an everyday $8.99 sole deal. Not to mention their food is great also.

This has been our go to place for fish & chips for a long time. I don t know what happened but I ll be looking for a new place now. Got take out, like we usually do, & was terribly disappointed to get home (2 minutes away) & find cold undercooked fish & chips. The batter was still mushy on the fish. I know they re busy with take out but at 4:30 on a Saturday, or any other time for that matter, undercooked food is inexcusable. I have always loved the fish here but after biting in to that tonight, it may be a long time before I eat fish again.

best franchise fish n chips but ajax location has to take some tips from other locations picked it up twice n batter was still mushy sorry guys but step up even their fries arent as good as other location oviously they need a better cook

After finishing up chemo & finally getting my tastebuds back I had a craving for fish & chips, (actually had this craving throughout my treatments) & today was able to satisfy it by visiting this restaurant. I hadnt been here before so I didnt know anything about it & Im happy that I went there. My family tried the seafood platter, halibut & haddock, (all with fries). The fish were freshly done in a lovely, crisp, tasty & overall very yummy batter. I was wondering about the chips when my husband pointed out the bags of potatoes waiting to be made into fresh fries. All of the fish & seafood were just as lovely as the batter & were also flavourful and flaky. My favourite was the haddock, it had a nice creaminess to it that I really enjoyed. Portions of the fish & fries were generous & although I was unable to finish all of the fries, they do reheat quite nicely, (not many fries are nice after rewarming) & I had the rest later. This place has regular daily specials & also has breakfast specials, (pankcakes, french toast, omelettes & other similar breakfast food) which I will have to try on my next visit. All in all Im happy that I was able to stop by & thoroughly enjoyed my fish & chips.

The fish and fries was fresh and good portions. My nephew tried the poutine which one also okay. The taste is not exceptional or special. Customer service was okay but not friendly.

The chicken souvlaki had no sauce on it and if it did it was like water. They didnt ask if we wanted gravy for our fries .

Not at par with other locations... ordered soulvaki with tzatziki on the side and didnt get any.. not sure what kind ofsauce they use but its so watery... Never had a soulvaki where the sauce just leaks out.. and the fries tasted like the oil wasnt charged in weeks

Not very friendly, overpriced and quality is greasy with way too much batter. Also, the place was too crowded for my liking. The portion of the halibut is too small and it was mostly batter. They will also charge for extra tartar sauce. Cmon...thats ridiculous. Im not going to spend money on a place that is so cheap, that is charges for a little tartar sauce. Where else are they trying to save money on. Desperate or what??!! The oil tasted old as well. There are other places that provide better quality, friendly and wont charge for tartar sauce. Very disappointing.

Pretty solid place to crush your fish and chips cravings. Customer service is good and the food tasted very good. One minor thing I did not like is that the for came out way too fast. Not sure if they gave me a cancelled order or they pre make everything.

Extremly discriminatory.... I try to support my local restaurants in these hard times but this is one I will not support from now on... ever.. very rude and lacking in critical thinking skills....people sitting in the restaurant without masks throughout the store.... Im standing and ordering my food... placed the order... waited for the food to be prepared. After about 8 minutes Im told I need to wear a mask or stand outside....I told them I dont have to wear one and look around... nobody is... they got very angry... and tried to rush me out of the store...I wasnt rude... didnt raise my voice or anything... all I said was if you think Im actually breaking the law then you should call the police but Im going to wait for my food... at which point she packaged my food hastily, was extremely rude and mean to her cashier, as if any of this is her fault.... thats when I said.. you know what..I will not now or ever again support your restaurant and Im now requesting a refund.... she got even angrier and wanted to keep my 10 % tip.... I said no...I want all my money back... she was mad about that too and was surprised I wanted my tip back aswell... she then tried again to rip me off for 2 dollars.... I then left and spent my money elsewhere... These mandates and policys are not laws... they can give tickets all they like but people they will not hold up in court.... I have friends and family that have died for the freedoms the masses are letting go!.. most of us where born into these freedoms and dont understand where all this goes.... the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms is still a thing along with all the other charters and laws that protect people from this type of discrimination... people..... time to wake up... it doesnt end here... My 2 cents...

I put in an order for Good Friday dinner three days in advance through Uber eats. It was supposed to be delivered between 4:30 and 5:00. At 5:00 we received an automated message that the restaurant cancelled our order and we would not be charged. At that point it was too late to order from any where else. This was very disappointing.

You get too much french fries and little fish for $18 a meal. We ordered two the Halibut Meal a total of $36 that doesnt come with coleslaw salad.that would have cost another $4. . There was nothing special about our order. The fish was dry and the batter covering fish nothing special and held alot of oil in it. I will not be ordering again,..need to find a real Fish House. Anyone in Durham Ontario know of a place to get good fish?

Halibut is pricey, but well worth it. Huge pieces, batter is light and frying oil is fresh with very little taste. Perfect!

Pricey but good service and food

I ordered the grilled Haddock with salad which was $18 and I literally got a piece of fish the size of my palm and I have a small palm. How could it be that the same fish fried almost double the size? I am not talking about the fried fish being bigger because of the batter, that I know for sure but this wasnt the full filet, it was more like a quarter. Oh and the salad, was a small plastic container, not the typical salad size you get with a dinner order.

If you like English style fish and chips you will love this place. It is always very clean. The Staff are fast and friendly. The food is very tasty and you are given a large amount of food. Probably enouhh for 2 people who eat smaller. The price is reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Fish and Chips.

Clean joint with decent service. Halibut and chips are pretty good. Kids halibut is not enough fish for my 4 and 6 year olds but there are always loads of chips.

Overpriced for what you get but the place is clean and well maintained. Fish was great and the batter lighter than the usual type you get at pubs.

Came here twice this week for halibut and chips. The halibut is delicious!! It s not cheap but the halibut is a great piece of fish. The batter is perfect, not too much but just right. Service is good. Would definitely recommend if you re craving fish and chips!

Good food fast service

Delicious Halibut and chips meals. The staff are very friendly and also fast at preparing the orders. Although Ive only used the take-out services, I did notice how nicely decorated it is in there while waiting for my food to be prepared. It is kept very clean, a nice quiet/relaxing atmosphere, with suitable nautical decor that is pretty to look at.
