We have 2 large glass private rooms, which are a good choice for family gatherings, dates and birthdays. Makimono in Ajax is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants in the area! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was absolutely top-notch. Vivian and Amy truly went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional—they were so friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food? Incredible. The sushi rolls are HUGE and packed with flavor, and the menu has such an extensive variety that there’s truly something for everyone. Whether you’re a sushi lover or prefer hot dishes, you’ll be spoiled for choice. This is also a fantastic spot for hosting parties! The ambiance and spacious seating make it perfect for gatherings with family and friends. On top of that, they’re running a great promotion for Christmas with their gift cards—such a perfect gift idea for sushi lovers! Makimono is easily one of my favorite places to dine, and I can’t recommend it enough. Amazing food, stellar service (thank you, Vivian and Amy!), and an all-around great experience.

Makimono Sushi has become one of my favorite places for sushi, and for good reason. Every visit feels like a treat, from the cozy ambiance to the warm and attentive staff who always make you feel welcome. The sushi here is fresh and full of flavor. I always find myself going back to the Dragon Roll—the combination of eel and avocado is perfection—or the Spicy Salmon Roll that has just the right amount of kick. Their presentation is beautiful too; it’s clear they take pride in every dish. What I love most is the all-you-can-eat option. It’s not just about quantity—they offer a wide variety of appetizers, rolls, and even desserts, all made fresh and served quickly. It’s perfect for when you want to try a bit of everything without breaking the bank. If sushi isn’t your thing, their teriyaki and tempura options are just as delicious. But honestly, it’s hard not to fall in love with their sushi once you try it. Whether it’s a casual dinner with friends or just indulging yourself, Makimono Sushi never disappoints.
"After three visits to Makimono, including celebrating my anniversary, I have to say this place falls short for true sushi lovers. While the ambiance is nice and the service is decent, the sushi lacks the freshness and authenticity I expect from a great sushi spot. The rolls feel more focused on presentation than flavor, and the rice-to-fish ratio just doesn’t hit the mark. It’s an okay spot if you’re not picky, but as someone who loves sushi, I wouldn’t recommend it as a go-to. There are better options out there."
The food was absolutely delicious, and it came out quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. Our server, Jessie, was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for great food and excellent service!
One of the best sushi restaurants I've tried in Canada! The salmon sashimi was super fresh and the shrimp tempura was crispy too. Don't forget to try the self-serve ice cream bar (the red bean one especially)!
Undoubtedly my favourite local Japanese e to chill, relax and eat (especially All-You-Can-Eat). Just making a very recent review from today’s experience. The place is not only near to my area, out of all the Makimono’s I went to, the Ajax one is undoubtedly the best one! Great customer service, amazing variety of delicious food, price is ok at best (but cheaper in lunch special) and overall very welcoming. The robots that serve you sushi is just adorable to watch, especially that sometimes the way they serve to their fellow customers. Almost go there everytime for sushi, and not a single opinion has changed over the years. I personally recommend the locals to try this place. Even those passing by Ajax or Durham Region for the matter, great place to stop by and either take a quick bite or have all your time eating various kinds of dishes. Tip: There’s a new recent ice cream bar, in which you can pick any flavour you like with any additional toppings and all. Even the All-You-Can-Eat tablet will automatically state it by showing a text once you press the plus button.
Our server Jessie is great and friendly. The food was delicious and the raw fish was super fresh. Food came out out quickly. The mango pudding is a must eat dessert.

Really racist, rude, and disrespectful worker their named emily. If you are paying money you should go somewhere where they treat you nice and acceptable. Asked if we could have a booth rudely said no were not enough people and started being very rude. We just decided to leave at that point. There were multiple booths available she just didnt want to indulge. Get not racist and respectful servers please

Went out with our friends for sushi. We were 4 adults. We went out cause you know now there isn t tax on restaurants but funny thing is they added a 15 percent service charge. So even more than the tax itself. We came a month ago with 7 people and were never charged that. I just don t like business that like to take advantage and try to make money at every small opportunity. On top of that they make you so uncomfortable, looking at you the whole time you eat.
Been here quite a few times over the years and it s always been a pleasant experience. Food is always great, we love the sashimi here.

We come to visit regularly when we have something to celebrate, Makimono always delivers. Today we were pleasantly surprised that our booth was decorated to celebrate my birthday, which was a nice touch! Well be back for more very soon.

We went to dinner here with our friends, we had such a horrible experience. I ended up with food poisoning. Insane amount of throwing up and horrible upset stomach. The customer service was terrible too, impatient hovering, extremely rude behaviour overall. We all felt uneasy and rushed because of their behaviour and the faces they kept making. We ordered a bunch of different rolls so it s hard to tell which one caused it to be exact but something is definitely wrong with their food because I ve had other friends complaining about upset stomachs after too. Will never be returning. Horrible horrible horrible overall!

Update: we went back again recently. around 9:30 the server came and took away the soy sauce. we had finished ordering all our mai course etc.. came and started taking away our plates. the restaurant closes at 10:00. it is obvious that they are closing in half hour.. they were so impatient and literally chucking us out. they could see that we almost finished with out food and did not even offer us dessert option. It sucks because I took my friends for a treat and their their first experience was horrible. the food was good as always. older review: The food was good. I have been coming to Makinono for over 2 years now and I really enjoy their Japanese food, fresh sashimi and a very nice sushi variety. But what I love the most is that I can bring people here that dont like sushi because they have delicious meat options and even French fries. The best!

We had a lovely time at Makimono Ajax! They have a great AYCE menu with a wide variety of sushi and other Asian dishes! You order through their iPads and your food is delivered to your table through their robots. Everything we got was fresh and delicious. Service was also really efficient! Parking: Plenty of parking space. There s also EV chargers available nearby! Kid-friendliness: Lots of different seating options: perfect for families with little kids!

I had a craving for Japanese food and I was conveniently close to Makimono in Ajax. I had been to their Pickering location and it was pretty good. I had their Teriyaki Beef Bento Box, which includes Miso Soup, Salad, California Roll, Tempura Vegetables, and Deep Fried Tofu, all for only $15.50! It was a lot of food, making it a very good value. The flavours were good. The service was also very good and my first dish was delivered by a robot. Cool!

Good all you can eat sushi experience. Prompt service, easy ordering via iPads and the occasional robot server food delivery is cute. Menu has lots of options. The decor is basic but the place is clean and an enjoyable experience. Will return. Update: the cat faced robot sang my son Happy Birthday. Was a highlight.
