Mackenzie Pub in Ajax

Hubby and I love our regular visits to MacKenzie Pub where the staff makes us feel like family. It is a fun, welcoming environment with great food from brunch to supper or apps and a cheeky drink. They have lots of screens too, so a great place to watch a game, and THE best patio in Ajax (during the warmer months). We love all the servers, and the owner is truly invested in making Mackenzie a place to have fun, escape and ultimately enjoy!

This is my friendly neighborhood pub, and my wife and I visit once or twice a week since 2016 when they opened. The staff is amazing, food portions generous and the food a great, with some surprising fusion items on the specials menu from time to time. Say hi to Raj, the owner, hes a great guy.

Server Ashley refuses to serve me when arriving 15 minutes before established closing time despite being a regular. Disrespectful employees, Magwyers will treat you with respect in contrast to this poor excuse for a watering hole.

This place is a real gem! Great food , Great service, warm and friendly... Scallops are a must try app here.. Daily specials are affordable and everything is made fresh in house.. I forgot to mention the Schnitzel best in durham!

I normally don t post many bad reviews but this needs to be said. I went here at 6:40 this past Tuesday with my husband and baby. We ordered our drinks and food at 6:45. The food didn t arrive until 8:05 pm. The pop was flat. The food was cold and not very good but that wasn t the worst part of this visit. I normally wouldn t complain about this as it s busy around the holiday but the overall behaviour of the staff makes this review needed. We were sitting and suddenly the tv above our heads suddenly was cranked to max. It was loud enough to hurt our adult ears let alone my infant. I go speak to the waitress. She said their speaker died at the front of the bar so they want to crank music on the tv above our head for the entire pub. I requested that they didn t or they use another tv as it s directly above our heads. It made sitting here uncomfortable and we wouldn t even be able to converse. There are many tvs in this pub. They briefly turned it down. Then they tried to crank it again (an older female waitress). We paid, packed up our meal, and left. I only had two bites. Despite waiting over an hour for it. Please review customer service with your staff. Kid-friendliness: Based on the behaviour of staff, it is not.

Love the food and the staff. Always great service. Especially last Friday. Make sure to order the Malibu punch and chicken schnitzel. Both are my favorites! This pub has become a regular spot for me and my friends. Lots of TVs and space. Always good prices and different deals everyday.

Was shown to a table right away by the courteous staff. A server took my drink and food order. Drinks came and food shortly after. The food was great.

I came back for a second time, food was just as good as the first time, I even got the same server Jennifer as the first time I came here, not often you have the same server months later, she was great at her job, she knew the menu like the back of her hand, and made really good reccomendarions.. one thing I did not enjoy is a man continuously coming to my table to make sure we were OK.. one time is enough.. I will definitely be back again regardless

Delicious food

$1 wings are a great deal. Wings are meaty and cooked well. Chicken wraps are fresh and delicious. Salads are crisp, fresh and the server suggested that we order the dressing on the side.

Thought Id come here with some family since we had friends recommending it. The service was abysmal. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks and get our orders taken. Another 30 to get our appetizers, and finally our food 20 minutes after that. We had to grab our own condiments from a table over, off people who were leaving. They cracked a joke about how we were forgotten about... When 2 of our drinks were brought, our third was missing. The server said she would bring it next time around, and kept forgetting. One of our orders, food was dropped when they were bringing it to the table, . They said they would replace it and bring some more. They never showed up with it. I was leaving a cash tip, but the server immediatly got rude when I hit no tip on the machine. Our server was Jennifer. Put a damper on a night that was suppose to be fun. I highly recommend avoiding this place.

I want to start by saying that the serving staff at Mackenzie Pub are amazing people. Always smiling and chatting with us while also on top of anything we needed. My two friends and I have been going to this establishment for a few years, usually 3 times per week. We ve also introduced others to the pub who continue to go with their friends. For years the food was excellent and we never had one complaint. However, over the past couple of months, there have been many issues with our food. The salads have been inconsistent and lately have been dripping wet and lacking flavour. When we brought this to the owner s attention (Raj) he treated us like we are people who have sent our food back regularly. I stress that for years there has been no problem at all. One evening we ordered two of the platters they offer (over $100 worth of food). All of the items on both platters were over cooked and in some cases flat out burnt. The manager, Suji (possible spelling mistake) was extremely reluctant to do anything about it. Eventually, he decided to replace the chicken fingers ONLY. We didn t touch the rest of the food and we requested he do something about. Reluctantly, he gave us a 50% discount. Why did we keep going? The serving staff are amazing and when Ceylon is in the kitchen, the food is perfect. (He makes the BEST steak - perfectly cooked every time!) This evening we arrived and near the end of our meal a large group of 30 people came in and were seated behind us. Two of us went out for a cigarette break while the 3rd in our group continued to consume their meal. While two of us were outside, a manager came and removed one of our chairs to give to the group without even asking our friend if we were done with it. The staff and managers are accustomed to two of us having cigarette breaks every time we are there (again - a few times a week). On top of that, the manager told my friend that my friend had to move our table to give the others room. We confronted the managers to point out how disrespectful they were being and they just giggled, smiled and said sorry. We tried to speak with Raj and he tried to dismiss us. When we told him we will not be coming back he just nodded and said ok . Several years; several times a week; thousands of dollars; recommending to several friends and treated like our business doesn t matter. We will not be back. Furthermore, we ve spread the word and six of our friends also will not be returning. 9 people; several times a week; appetizers, dinner and sometimes dessert. None of that business matters to the dismissive managers/owners. We will miss the serving staff and hopefully our paths will cross some day. They re wonderful people.

Came to Mackenize s pub for a lunch and had them most pleasant experience. Our server was wonderful, always taking care of our needs. Been here a few times and always love the staff, especially jen ! Came in on Sunday when it was very busy and watched her rock it all on her own ! The food is always good even when the wait is a little longer then normal due to how busy it was which is understandable.

I was looking for a place to hold 30 of us for my friends 50th bday, we called Mackenzies from the parking lot at 10pm on Saturday night, they were still super busy but managed to make room for us, Jen our server was amazing, she handled everything perfectly, food was on point, service was fast, as for the bartender ashley, she got our drinks sent out to us super quick, and made perfectly, everything about our experience at mackenzies was simply amazing.. Thanks Jen and ashley for an amazing experience, we will all definitely be back.

Our experience at Makenzie Pub and restaurant was nothing short of outstanding we dined in twice! First a family dinner and second was a friends birthday celebration.Whether youre sitting inside or outside (patio) it was delightful. The menu option were perfect variety of deliciousness. Everything we tried was great. The staff were courteous, attentive and pleasant they were tolerant of small alteration and goes above and beyond to assure visitors satisfaction. Really impress by the service. Definitely will recommend and will come back again.

This place is amazing. All staff are so nice and bring energy. The patio is very nice and peaceful and the food is delicious. I recommend getting the carbonara as it tastes great! Definitely coming back here.

I went to Mackenzie Pub last week with my friends. I had the soup and salad combo and it was excellent. Amazing prices and generous portions. The service was excellent. The owner went out of his way to ensure we were enjoying our meal. Will be back soon!

It was disgusting !!! I was in the Restaurant and it was awful so I ordered to see if the food was good being ordered nd it was extremely bad. I actually threw up after two bites of the chicken fingers and fries and my mother couldn t even eat her Guinness steak and kidney pie with vegetables and mashed potatoes because the taste was rotten for both. First try was def the last try. I wouldn t recommend!!!

DEMOTED FROM A 3 to 1 star. Been eating here more or less since they opened. Food quality used to reliable, staff are friendly and prices were and still are reasonable. Since then things have changed. The food quality has gone downhill. I think there must be a new cook because the items we regulary order are very different now. I ordered Pergogies, they were hard and chewy, a few of them were empty with not a hint of filling, so it must have been over boiled before throwing it the tin foil and cremating it and everything that was topping it. There was a lot of skin in the sauteed onions too - so someone isnt removing them. I dont think this cook has ever eaten perogies or even seen what theyre supposed to look like. My husband always used to love their flatbread, but that too was different, looked terriblly unappetizing and hardly any feta. It used to be bigger, fluffier crust. It took was overcooked. At a guess, it seems like the food we had was prepared days ago and reheated, it just didnt seem freshly made. Sadly well have to skip this restaurant in the future, such a shame, it was a great local pub/restaurant at one time.

Last night I went to Mackenzie s Pub for a birthday dinner with my friends. There was 8 of us and wow what a beautiful patio it was to dine at. Finally a place in Durham region with a lively atmosphere. The food was delicious. We ordered calamari, potato skins, Yager snitzel and the curry roll to start with. Some of my friends went for the daily specials we heard the pub was widely known for because the head chef creates tasty meals (huge portions) made from Scratch for way less! We had amazing service, it s nice to see a pub have staff that is energetic and engages with the customers! I d definitely come again, and recommend this pub for anyone to celebrate a bday, event or just order one of the chefs specials.

As always the food was delicious, but what made our lunch really special was our server, Diana. She was warm, had a great sense of humor, attentive, and made our lunch so enjoyable. This gal deserves a raise! Well be back and will bring more friends - for the great food and wonderful service.

We went there for an early dinner with our kids (26 and 28) as they have never been... and they wont be back. Our waitress Emily was extremely miserable, unfriendly, unresponsive, you could tell she did not want to be there!!! We wont be back!!!! Back to portly we go!!!!

The chicken wings tasted off. And the sauce was not up to par. I even ordered hot sauce on the side. That didn t show up. Me and my GF where both disappointed in the wings on a Monday night. Ended up at portly pipers. Great food there !!!

After hearing about Mackenzies Pub from a friend, I decided to try it for the first time and take my sister who was visiting from Los Angeles. The food was amazing, the prices were very affordable and the service couldnt have been better. My sister loved the atmosphere and raved about MacKenzies for days. I will definitely be going back!

I went here earlier this week. Our server Samantha was the best server ever. She greeted us with a smile and made sure we had everything that we needed. Good food selection, I chose steak, mushroom and Guinness pie and mash, pretty good. My wife chose the liver and onions. There was enough liver and onions to feed us supper the next day.

I must say I m very disappointed in the service here. To think that we are a country where there is supposed to be a multicultural society where everyone is supposed to be treated equally. Its far from it if you come to this place. Everyone that wasn t my colour was asked if they needed anything but I wasn t even offer water. I believe that this place could be a great place to gather at but the service needs to be wayyyyy better for EVERYONE!

Went to Mackenzie s with a group of my friends, got seated right away which was great on a busy Friday night especially in Durham on game night. The place has been renovated and looks amazing. It was a cold day so we all started with a few apps -soup of the day came with a bruschetta! And we got the yummy Parmesan wings and shared the huge portion of beef nachos. There is a huge selection for mains especially the delicious pastas! and we enjoyed the daily deal menu for their drinks. I highly recommend the snitzel! The spicy ceasers are tasty, and great beer. If you re looking for a cozy restaurant vibe definitely try this place out as it has fireplaces and nice booths and service was great. Awesome cocktail and beer menu!

Cousin brought us there for the first time, absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food is to rave about. Lots of options and the manager/owner takes his time to walk around and personally make sure each table is doing good. That s what I call a restaurant. Will be going back and highly highly recommend! Vegetarian options: Beyond chicken, beyond meat, cauliflower wings and lots more options!

All we had in both beer and foods were great. Many choices on the menu. Friendly survives and atmosphere.

The manager/owner was present, making sure everyone was looked after. He was very pleasant and accommodating.

We usually go to Portly. It was busy so we went across the street. Place wasn t busy. It took us 45 mins to get food. All apps nothing that really took long to make. No water was brought to our tables. We asked for water the server brought out 3. There were 4 people at our table. We had to ask for another glass. The wings were small, the jalapeño poppers were a joke, fries were ok, and the nachos not bad. The restaurant floor under our table was full of fries and napkins. Before you seat someone this should be cleaned up. Server was not great, the fact that we had to ask for water and that she didn t ask us if we wanted another beer after taking our empty glasses shows she really doesn t know what she is doing.

Our family has made MacKenzie Pub our go to spot for family dinners out. The staff are always friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The portions are excellent. And food is delicious. We have been very pleased every time we stop in. It is also an excellent option to get out and watch a game on any of their several TV s. I would highly recommend you stop in and give it a try.

Excellent all around. Food is super cheap and the portions are generous. Hard to find that sort of quality and quantity anywhere else these days. A huge plate of Lobster Mac and Cheese only cost $16! The staff was super friendly and had TVs all over the restaurant to watch the football game! Definitely recommend and will be returning!

We had our company xmas lunch here in Dec 2023. Staff was very nice, food good, prices very reasonable.

We had an early dinner dining experience today. The ribs and wing combo was an excellent choice for my husband. My dining pleasure was the fish and chips. Service was provided by Jessi, prompt congenial and funny! This place continues to be a favourite of ours! Parking: There are lots of spots right in front of the restaurant and there is a huge lot adjacent to it.

November 24, 2023 My return to Mackenzie Pub was delightful. I relished the Carbonara, paired with a side of calamari and a cold Pepsi. The service was efficient, and the preprepared food arrived swiftly, offering a scrumptious dining experience. September 15, 2023 Calamari 10/10 Jalapeno Popper 10/10 Purple Rain 10/10 Carbonara 9/10 We decided to try out this restaurant for three compelling reasons: it was our first visit, the restaurant had garnered impressive reviews, and our appetites were ready for a hearty dinner. Upon entering, we received a warm welcome and were promptly shown to a spacious booth for indoor seating. Jessica, our waitress, introduced herself with a friendly demeanor and offered us ice-cold water as we perused the drink menu. I settled on the Purple Rain cocktail, which turned out to be a delightful choice, hitting all the right notes in terms of flavor. My partner expressed curiosity about the Kronenbourg Blanc beer, and to our pleasant surprise, Jessica offered a sample to ensure it paired perfectly with his meal. For starters, we savored the breaded Calamari rings with cajun aioli and indulged in the irresistible Jalapeño Poppers. When it came time for our main courses, I opted for the Carbonara from Macks Pasta selections, which was quite pleasing, although a tad crispier bacon would have been preferred. Great food, staff and environment

It was my first time going here. It was a Saturday night but it wasnt crowded. We were seated right away. The food selections are endless. Its not just your typical pub food. Theres lasagna, shepherds pie, schnitzel and much more! I ordered the chicken pad thai abd it was just delicious! Cocktail selection is good too. Price is very reasonable. Our waitress was great too. Im definitely going back!

We visit here every so often, and when ww do visit we hope to have Amy look after us, and that she does. From making sure our drinks are topped up to making sure we have everything to enjoy our meal. We really enjoy her company. shes upbeat yet professional. Wishing she worked more hours

I come to this pub when Amy is serving. It s a decent pub all around, but when she s serving, it s elevated to a community of food loving, conversation having, amateur sommeliers. It s such a joy. It takes people to make a place come alive, and that she does. They made a good choice hiring her, and that speaks volumes about the establishment here.

First time back in a while and happy to say overall more positive experience than last time. Even though they were busy, definitely not as noisy or loud as noise competition pub across the street.

A great neighbourhood pub. I found the patio really comfortable. They have a good portion covered with a party tent what helps in keeping a good amount of shade. Im very impressed by the large selection of food on the menu with a lot of pub standards, classics you dont see as much anymore, and interesting new options. It tasted really good too. Good selection of beer on tap. Im going to return here again - I enjoyed it.

We were a party of two, popped in at 2100 hrs. midweek. Both of us had one piece of fish and chips. Fast friendly service. The chips were perfect crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Fish batter could have been lighter. Both items were golden indicative of being fried in clean oil. We both left satisfied and considered it good quality and value for money. Update. We have been back several times, food and service consistently good.

My favourite pub to visit in Ajax! Love the atmosphere for watching games, no better place to watch sports. Amazing specials every single day of the week. Incredibly impressive menu that has something for everyone on it! The food is always so fresh and flavourful. Service is consistently top notch and the servers never miss a beat. Very clean place, bathrooms are always well stocked and maintained. The patio in the summer is easily the best in town, flowers all over creating a beautiful environment, they even have tv s outside! Can t wait to visit again.

If youre looking for a beautiful dog friendly patio, fast service with a smile, this is the best spot in the Durham region hands down! The food is amazing with a wide selection of beer and cocktails at the most reasonable price even after all the inflation we have been going through. Stopped in for lunch with some friends and enjoyed wings and a pint on the patio. Service was outstanding and polite, wings were on point and the pints were cold. Definitely recommend stopping in if you have the opportunity.

This place has considerably gone worse over the last couple of years. From missing items through take out to booking a party of 20 for lunch and screwing up the booking with no remorse. Even when they find the reservation on a different page. Drive across the street, youll get better service and food. We only booked reservation because of the patio.NEVER AGAIN!

Me and some friends went a few nights ago and sat on the patio. The service was great and we took a few recommendations of appetizers from our server Amber who was awesome! We we will definitely be back!

Amazing everything!

We have always tried to support this pub since it opened. I can tell you its a must stop! Raj and the staff know how to pivot for your needs at any time. They now have cauliflower bites which work in wraps! Then you have Ashley at the bar who always puts a smile on our face with her awesome service! Must stop! Cheers team!

Weve always had great meals there, beit breakfast, lunch or dinner. Hosts are very nice and service is reasonably quick. Great for games on TVs and nice outdoor patio too Update 2023 - recently, there have been staff changes throughout including the kitchen staff. Service in the day time is great however in the evening hours - not great and or questionable! There are significant delays..other orders received before your own raising issue or friendly concern gets you the pass the buck treatment not happy at all over last few dinners 3-5 at the very least and really no respect or compassion with regard to outcome whether by staff on hand or Manager working

Inexpensive pub with great variety.

This place is amazing. The food is ALWAYS spot on. The service is fast and friendly. I ve been a regular for years now and will continue. I recommend this to anyone that asks for a place to try.

Waited for over an hour for the food to come out poorly made and bland. Service was terrible, waited more than 10 minutes to order and had to hail multiple waitresses to get the bill. I do not reccomend this

Came here with my family a few nights ago and had an amazing time. Clean and friendly atmosphere, large portions and great prices. Definitely will be coming back!

Stopped in for lunch for the first time, We were seated on the patio, surrounded by beautiful flowers, we had the pleasure of Jennifer as our server, she was very efficient and fast, one of the most honest and polite servers I ve experienced in a long time. She gave the best recommendation for food! Food was amazing and huge portions.. also I love that there is a manger on hand helping staff.. thanks for a great first experience! I definitely recommend and will be back!

Your fish and chips can t be beat. We need a Mackenzie in Barrie Ont . I tell people how great your food is and they say oh we don t have one here .

First time visiting MacKenzie Pub. Warm welcoming greeting upon entry. Great inviting atmosphere & really nice flooring and decor. Service was phenomenal, food came out very quickly and everything came out with the perfect temperature and it all tasted great. Parking: Multiple parking spots were available upon last visit on Friday evening around 5:30pm Kid-friendliness: Even though this is a pub or bar, this appears to be a kid friendly place. There are high chairs available. Wheelchair accessibility: There is wheelchair accessible parking and a wheelchair ramp nearby

I have been to this place multiple times! For breakfast, lunch and dinner. They do it all! Its an awesome sports like pub, with beyond great food and drinks at a reasonable price! Perfect for any occasion! The service has also always been good! And they have a wonderful outdoor patio!

Food was ok. Service was poor. We got food plates but no napkins cutlery or water.

Ive been a long time customer here. Every visit has been outstanding. The owner goes above and beyond to ensure the best dining experience. Great food, and the staff is amazing. Stop searching around for places to eat, Mackenzies is the place to be. Cant thank the owner (and wicked staff) enough for continuously exceeding my expectations!

Mackenzie Pub is one of the best place to eat in the Durham Region! Owner and Staffs are always great! Treated the customers well. No waiting time. Great atmosphère and Services. Staffs are friendly. Love to eat dinner in the patio, lots of flowers and lights, maintained well. Great place to watch sport games, lots of TV s everywhere. The place is good, ambience is good. I ordered a lobster dish, wasnt fresh. The other chicken and steak dishes were very nice. They have a good variety of alcohol, Good for family time and with your friends too. The price point is slightly on the higher side.

This place is one of my familys go to restaurants. The staff are always so welcoming with a warm smile on their face and we love the food. They have endless options and it always ends up tasting amazing. I would definitely suggest eating here!

The overall pub atmosphere is amazing over here. Honestly its my go to place when Im in the area and want to get into a food coma with great people. I would advise anyone and everyone to take a chance with this pub!

Popped in to watch the Jay game and was told it was $1 wing night woohoo! The place was very clean, there were TVs everywhere so no bad seat in the house and the atmosphere was lovely. We ordered wings, fries, spinach dip and a ceaser salad. The salad was huge, the fries were hot and crispy, the spinach dip came with so many chips and these delicious pita triangle (they were so good) and the wings were cooked to PERFECTiON!! Our sweet server Emma was so attentive and made sure everything was to our liking. The shift manager also popped over to see how things were which I appreciated. I was pleasantly surprised by my overall experience because I was getting discouraged that we would find someplace nice in Ajax/Pickering for pub night. We cant wait to go back and taste more of the menu!! side note : They have a gorgeous patio which I saw on the way out. Wheelchair accessibility: Street level with seating and washrooms on one floor.

Great selection in their menu. Much better than previous visits. Good selection of drinks. Fast and efficient.

Been here twice on the past year to meet up with family. Both times had horrible service. Today me and my father ordered a drink when we arrived. Others in our party showed up 15 minutes later and still got there drinks before us. After 25mins finally got our drinks after asking a competent waitress. Will never go here again and do not recommend unless you have hours to kill.

My favorite place to go for a fun night of food and drinks with family and friends. Usually come here to watch the fights or leafs/raptors play and it s always a good experience. Food is delicious and the service is top tier. We had Kate take care of us last time and she was outstanding! Definitely will keep coming back!
