When we went to this restaurant as part of our anniversary stay at the Millcroft, we had high expectations. The over $100 steaks had to be sent back. Medium Well shouldn't be purple. Also, our waitress who seemed to be chatty and friendly with a few select tables mostly ignored ours. This experience was such a sour note on a great getaway. If we stay again, we'd plan to leave the Spa and dine elsewhere.
Another night out at Headwaters has proven to be fantastic once again. Food is stupendous. This place is a hidden jewel.
I had dinner at Headwaters Restaurant and it was phenomenal! I ordered a custom cocktail made just right, the complementary table bread was delicious (garlic parm, tomato and also a regular white bread). For my entree, I ordered the Black Cod - it was cooked perfectly, served hot and the presentation was impeccable! I would definitely return to dine here again, great food and wonderful/friendly service.
We had dinner and breakfast included in our stay and loved both! The restaurant has a lovely vibe, and the service was very good. We got to breakfast at 7.45am, before it got busy and thoroughly enjoyed the best table in the restaurant!
Service was excellent, ambiance was nice and romantic. We got breakfast and also dinner during a stay at the inn. Prices were certainly on the higher side. Breakfast for eggs Benedict was good, but at $28 each seems like quite a bit for what you get. For dinner, we got the steak and the lamb. Both were cooked very well, and the lamb was delicious with all its sides. The steak was tender, and the mushrooms alongside the sauces complimented the steak well, but the risotto was quite salty. Not pictured is the bread that they served - soft and warm, a great start to the meal. We also got dessert, and the chocolate mousse with the biscotti was rich and creamy, albeit a little sweet, but complimented the biscotti well. The special tart looked beautiful, but I found the bacon jam a little odd in terms of combination with everything else in the tart. As an experience, it was enjoyable but left something to be desired. If you’re staying at the spa and want a nice meal, it can be a nice experience but just expect to pay a pretty penny.
Being advertised as a fine dining restaurant, we weren't really sure what to think of Headwaters Restaurant. The prices on their menu certainly seemed upscale enough, but we weren't able to justify paying for an overpriced dinner after reading many of the consistently negative online reviews. We did end up going for breakfast on one morning, and a nightcap with dessert. While the food was okay, it was nothing to write home about, especially when the eggs benedict florentine cost $28 for two poached eggs on some raw baby spinach and a half dozen 'french fry' shaped hash browns. We also had some initial issues with service. The Inn's front desk had told us during check-in that breakfast seating was first come-first serve and the lounge was self-seating. There was no obvious differentiation or signage between the lounge and restaurant areas, so we sat ourselves at a free table after waiting five minutes by the entrance stand, confused due to a sign saying wait to be seated but with no host in sight. This led to us being flagrantly ignored by the waitstaff walking past our table for several more minutes until we asked for one of their attention. Later during our meal, another waitress shouted across the room towards two other diners that they needed to pay before leaving, apparently due to some confusion regarding their B&B package. While our own waitress was lovely and attentive, the general ambiance felt oppressively unwelcoming. The nightcap with dessert was a much better experience, though still a bit stifling, certainly not an atmosphere which encouraged guests to stay for any extended length of time. The desserts themselves were absolutely delicious, and something I would go back for. For guests staying at Millcroft Inn and Spa, Headwaters Restaurant is the most convenient option based only on location. Otherwise, ordering room service will basically add up to be the same with gratuity, or Alton has some very nice cafes and bistros within a ten minute walking distance.
We just had an amazing time. Everything was perfect. Food was delicious. The desserts spectacularly well crafted, beautifully plated and to die for delicious. Our server Lisa was the best. She made our night extra special. So kind and attentive to details. We loved everything about our dinner.
Fantastic food! Highly recommend. Went here for the hotel and dinner package and it was a wonderful experience. Our 3-course meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Our servers were top-notch and attentive. The only thing I would change is if the booking system could be more integrated between the hotel and the restaurant! Even if you book a package your dinner reservation is not secured. We didn't know that until we arrived and had to book a time for dinner separately. Thankfully they had an opening that night but it ended up being quite a late dinner at 8:15. But all in all a great experience if you want to do a spa outing with hotel stay and dinner. Just remember to call the restaurant after you book!
No better way to ruin a meal than to have a waitress that you constantly have to go running to look for because you cant find her. She turned a one hour lunch into 2 hours simply because she could never be found. And the place was EMPTY! Annoying!!! Food
Thank you Millcroft for the exceptional service, warmth and delicious meals. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience and look forward to returning.
Fantastic food, beautiful venue. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options for both appetizer and mains were available Food : 5/5 |
Shockingly rude and incompetent staff. Go anywhere else.
Such a good experience!! Just went this evening with my family for my dad s birthday, the service was amazing, ambiance was elegant and it was very neat and organized. The food arrived at a timely manner and everything was amazing. We had the pleasure of having Lisa as our server and she was absolutely fantastic, such a lovely person and such a sweetheart! Sending lots of love to Lisa!! We hope to come back soon :)
Had a lovely Mother s Day meal surrounded by the sound of the waterfall, beautiful wooden walls and very comfortable chairs. Our waiter Fred was wonderful, filled with great advice that led to a delicious wine and dinner and a pleasure to speak with. Highly recommend this spot for any occasions!
Went for Mother s Day brunch and was VERY underwhelmed, supposed to be one of the best brunches. I have sent direct to restaurant and they haven t even responded. Goes to show that they feel the same. Beef dry and zero vegies to go with. No gravy and a very bland chimichurry. Dry and cold salmon that was white in colour. Just weird. Very little selections for pasta. Basically one. Bread and cheese was choice of two cheese. And zero grain bread. Overall was way too expensive. Should have been more of a 29.99 buffet. I could go on but they don t seem to care. Left feeling very ripped off. Could have spent almost 600 for four elsewhere. Would not go back.
Scenic setting. Feels like youre at a cottage. The grounds were not upkept as neatly ar I would expect for an Inn or Spa. Went here for a mothers day brunch and the food was dry aith hardly any flavor....would not go again unfortunately. I think its overrated. Service was on point.
Not worth the hype! Service was all-right- a bit slow and our server had to keep going back to ask and check. I would rate service average. Vibe: When i called to reserve i asked specifically if we will be facing water view; and they confirmed it- but that wasnt case at all. There is literally 2 tables that is only for couple seating that has good views, and not for a group of 4+. The food: my main complaint is in this department, lets say i had a high expectation from an upscale vintage chain hotel, and it was just subpar. To begin menu is very limited. The tenderloin was not tender at all(rather on dry side), the fish looked and tasted bland, and pasta lacked flavor as well (in fact there was a sour taste in pasta dish that was unpleasant). Our party wasnt impressed with food taste at all. The bread basket was also stale. The only positive I give is for drinks and dessert; only thing we enjoyed. Overall, it was disappointment although dishes look upscale, but truly didnt taste and felt like upscale dining for memory to stay with you.
Our service team was exceptional and our food was very good. Everyone made us feel welcome and cared for. Special thanks to Jacquie and Ben. Very well done for the kitchen staff and chef. Vegetarian options: Getting tofu at a restaurant was never as good as this. Lovely complex flavours
My wife and I just got married at the Millcroft this weekend and chose to have breakfast at Headwaters the morning of and dinner the night after our wedding. Both breakfast and dinner were amazing, such great food and great service! Our dinner was especially amazing as they were kind enough to write out Congratulations in chocolate in celebration of getting married. Our server for dinner, Jade, was incredible, helpful and very kind! (Didnt get the names of the people during breakfast, but they were also so great to us!)
Amazing atmosphere. We were seated overlooking the waterfall. The food was amazing and the service fantastic. Jade was our server for the evening and she went above and beyond our expectations! Thank you as well to all the chefs and kitchen staff that served us that evening. Fantastic!
Give Diana a raise
food was very bland appetizers were bizarre and not good. Service and atmosphere were amazing.
Celebrated my husbands birthday here. Great fine dining experience. Our server Trish was great and we enjoyed every single course! Desserts were very pretty and the view was phenomenal!
Best steak I have had in a very long time. All the flavours came together. The pumpkin soup was awesome. The service was exceptional.
Honeymoon disappointment for a young couple I have never written a review in my life but I feel this is so important for any couple (especially young couple) to read. We saved up money to do this after our wedding and it was so disappointing I dont even know where to begin. If you are a couple wanting to have this experience please please read. Mid January stay: Resturant package: EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. We were prepared for paying more to get quality but this was just awful. Started with mussels- they were very old freezer tase, half of them shut, had a sandlike grit in a lot of them.... I love mussels and get them almost every place we go- never had this type of experience. Gave a complimentary cheese balls (our waitress was lovely) since we paid for the package already, not much they can do in terms of taking the appetizer (mussels) off the bill. These were horrendous. Cold middle, tasted like freezerburn, warmed up more than once- no flavour. Main course: Husband- bison, leek and potatos (2 tiny ball roasted potatos) Extremely salty, uneatable amount of salt. Me- pasta, 45 dollars for 5 tortallinies... okay if they were large and exquisite but no...tasteless, ricotta cheese filling was definetly reheated pasta is not made fresh everyday like they said...no way I can be convinced of that as an italian who makes her own pasta! The garnish tasted like gone bad spinach/greens. I couldnt believe it. Dessert- it was okay, not worth $18 each!! Brought it all up to the front desk.... theyre lack of concern, accommodation or care was unnerving. They just said okay and billed us. Thought we would try breakfast (eggs and bacon are pretty straight forward) Breakfast- 30 bucks for reheated fries (supposed to be hash), undercooked boxed sausage, eggs were so salty I couldnt even eat, bread was so old and tasted like the kitchen (like its been sitting a long time) THIS RESTURANT NEEDS TO BE ON A GORDON RAMSAY SHOW. If youre still with me, our room overview: Croft room: Nice heated bathoom floors, 1 set of towels. Hot tub- clean, worked Shower- rust in the nossles, water only came out of some holes in the shower head bed- had hairs in it (no, not mine) Stains- on the walls and carpet In conclusion, we checkout out early cancelled our massage and went to the keg. We are so incredibly disappointed and outraged by the lack of care and accommodation provided for the money. I spoke to the front desk stating all our concerns and disappointment and she proceeded to read me the bill. Not how a spa/inn stay should be and certainly not the customer service that should be shown. Save your money!
I love the spa ...and the restaurant has fabulous food ...limited for special diets but what they do have is creative and delicious. I wasnt too worried that they forgot the bred that went with the dish or that it arrived burnt on the corners...but, I am currently disappointed to be seated at the bar with my elbows pushed up for my salad...a mis step from the front ... when the every table is empty and is held for reservation, and my meal will take a third of time to complete. Generally outstandingly good service, must be an off day. Note, same tables empty as I leave. Vegetarian options: Minimal options but great enough to eat every visit.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Millcroft Inn and Spa. We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Headwaters restaurant. It exceeded our expectations. Im not easily impressed by fancy presentation, I need it to be delicious. For a starter we shared the Fluke Crudo. It was delicious. The mint balanced the habenero sauce perfectly. The sauce was not overly spicy, despite its name. I had the beef tenderloin and my husband had the halibut. My beef was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The grill marks added just enough flavour and the meat itself was so tender. The accompaniments were a nice touch. My husband was happy with his dish as well. Dessert was the creme Brule for myself and the signature maple tart for my husband. The creme brule was delicious. My husband thought his dessert had a little too much going on but was still enjoyable. I would eat here again for sure. Service was great. Friendly and knowledgeable waitress. Vegetarian options: Had a pumpkin ravioli as a vegetarian option.
Horrible experience
Great meal from start to finish. The waiter was excellent, apps perfect, one of the best meals Ive had in a long time. If you can stay on property, do that too. Dietary restrictions: Had gluten-free option
Food is excellent. Staff are very friendly and inviting. Only complaint is they didn t have the wine we first selected; nor the second one we selected. The third one was available but more $ than our first two selections and there was no compensation made on the bill for this inconvenience. Back again (Feb 2023) and the food, atmosphere, and service (especially Lisa our server) where excellent. Everything prepared to perfection, presented beautifully , and absolutely delicious.
The vegetarian pasta was amazing!!!! Vegetarian options: There were two vegetarian options (one being vegan) and I was very happy!
We just finished an amazing dinner at Headwaters. The food was really good but the service was even better! Lisa was our waitress this evening (for the 2nd time!) and did an incredible job! She is very friendly and super knowledgeable about the menu. We will definitely be back!
This trip has been a year in the making, as covid ruined our plans last year... While the setting is beautiful, several things really took away from what we hoped would be an incredible weekend away. The hot tubs were down all weekend, which is honestly one of the main reasons to book at a resort like this. You pay a premium price to have access to their spa facilities while you are there. And while the terrible weather is out of anyones control, the fact that we couldnt use the hot tubs meant we were stuck using a basic indoor pool that can be found at any standard hotel. It was mediocre at best. If you are staying in the main building, it is quite a hike to get to the actual spa. Im sure during the warm summer months it would be no big deal. But in torrential downpours, negative degree temperatures and heavy winds, walking back to your room with soaking wet hair is not an enjoyable experience. The food looked incredible, but we chose to bring breakfast and lunch items to cut back on cost, as the room rate alone made for an expensive weekend. When we came back Saturday afternoon to have lunch in our room, we found all of our food was frozen solid. Charcuterie meat, cheese, dips, veggies. Most of which couldnt be salvaged. To say it turned out to be a disappointing birthday weekend celebration is unfortunate. While it may be a more enjoyable experience in the summer when you can actually utilize the outdoor facilities, we will not be returning to this resort.
Came here for my bachelorette. I cant emphasize how AMAZING the food was. Everything was delicious, even the bread! I still think about that meal. The only cons I can think of are that the food came a bit slowly and the entrées a bit small
Enjoyed dinner and breakfast as part of our stay package at the spa. Dinner was fantastic and the deserts were exceptional, especially the creme brulee. The view of the falls was wonderful as we ate breakfast.
My friend and I stayed at Millcroft Inn & Spa and had dinner at Headwaters. We had a beautiful view of the falls. Jeremy and our server Jade were so friendly and personable. Jade made wonderful recommendations. The food was incredible! Everything my friend I had was exceptional. I highly recommend the ahi tuna and the Ontario beef tenderloin and the crème de la crème brûlée!
The restaurant was superb. Every dish we had was delicious and the waitstaff were amazing. Had breakfast and dinner here.
Absolutely amazing. Customer service was excellent. Headwaters chefs cook a meal that you see on TV. The spa was fantastic and the amenities perfect. We are definitely coming back.
Very disappointed in our experience. We were seated at a solo table next to the falls, which was nice and romantic. Our initial impression was positive, our drinks and bread were brought to the table & order placed promptly. The view and ambience was very nice; welcoming, relaxed, and serene. Then it all fell apart, we were basically forgotten for the rest of the night. It was almost an hour wait for two AAA burgers, that we had to find a server to ask about. When the food finally came, we had both finished our drinks, neither the server nor who appeared to be a manager offered a refill or another drink. Our waitress finally came to our table after the food came, she barely got to the table to ask if the food was okay. But not enough time has passed to actually try anything as we were still waiting on condiments. She too didn t address the drinks, not that she was there long enough to notice. I had a clear view of the entire patio and could see our waitress tending to the other tables regularly and often. I tried several times to flag her down, I could see her looking directly at me, but she never acknowledged or came back to our table. Instead she tended to a closer table then ducked back inside. The food was equally disappointing, bland is the best description. The side Caesar was loaded with Parmesan, which was the only source of flavour, the dressing was bleh. The AAA burgers were absolutely flavourless, like they somehow managed to remove even the flavour of beef (which to be honest is quite impressive), not to mention they were barely warm. I can (and do) make better burgers at home! The only flavour was a glob of cheddar cheese. I finished mine because I was so hungry, but my finance barely touched hers. Then there was the grilled shrimp, which were the only flavourful item we got, but the flavour was more of a clam chowder. When we were done with our experience we waited awhile longer to see if our waitress would come back & even tried flagging her down again. When she didn t return we had to seek out the manager again, who apologized but didn t offer or make any attempt to make the experience better. Overall, we would have been better off eating off the property at some fast food joint.
The atmosphere was great sitting on the patio overlooking the water. The servers were attentive and friendly. The Buttermilk Ricotta Gnudi was really undesirable with the carrot purée having a really bitter taste. Almost like a burnt taste. The Charcuterie plate was passable but at $35 I felt it was overpriced. I would not make a point to revisit.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Headwaters! Our server Lisa was so personable and funny - she was great. Thank you Lisa! In spite of having a reservation we did have a bit of a wait to be seated. Staff were very polite and apologetic about this - but it did get a bit comical how many staff members passed us saying someone will be with you in a moment before someone was with us. Also - in future I would call ahead to inquire about getting a table with a view as we were a little disappointed to not have a window seat. I ll know for next time! Our food was overall excellent and kept getting better as the meal went on. Appetizers were good, mains were great, and dessert was outstanding. My goodness, they have a fantastic pastry chef! One small thing is that I wished my white wine was better chilled - especially at $20 a glass. We also received complimentary glasses of champagne after Lisa found out it was our anniversary. A lovely, high-end touch. Our dinner was the highlight of our stay at Millcroft Inn. Thank you headwaters!
Last weekend of May 2020 4 of us ladies booked rooms at this gorgeous Inn to celebrate a milestone birthday. This Inn and Spa is absolutely breathtaking. We spent most of our time in the pools. rain or shine you will fall in love with this place. The restaurant > the service we got from Jefferey was outstanding and the dishes served are 10 stars, delicious. I (we) would recommend this place 1000% you will not be disappointed! Thank you for an exceptional weekend that we still all talk about to -date :))
Beautiful estate - we spent the day at the Spa and had dinner at Headwaters Restaurant. We didn t know when making the reservations that we had to request a window seat - however, we were early enough for them to accommodate and found us a table next to a window. Our waitress Jackie was 10/10 - she was very attentive, polite, thoughtful and accommodating. She really went over the top to make sure our dinner amazing and that alone would make us want to come back. The menu is small, but has great variety (I.e. lamb, beef, fish, lobster and pasta). We wanted mussels from the lunch menu and she made it happen. The mussels were so fresh and the bread for the table was a great compliment to dip in the mussels sauce. Our mains were delicious, we had the Lamb (must have if you love lamb), Fazoletti Pasta and Pan Seared Chicken (from the Summerlicious menu). All very well plated and full of flavour. We ended our meal with the Summer Tasting Trio - which was perfect for sharing and full of different flavour that suited everyone tastebuds. Definitely have to try this dessert if you are here. I hope they don t take this off the menu. Thank you to the chef and staff for a wonderful dinner and we ll definitely be back!
Great food, great service, nice plate presentation
Steak had to be sent back twice. This is hard to believe from a place that charges so much and is supposed to have world class chefs. The food overall looks better than it tastes. The service was also not great. If you stay here venture out and eat elsewhere.
Walking in I thought I m going into a fine dine experience but I was extremely surprised at how distasteful the food was. I tried to add salt and fix it up, I really couldn t make it work and left the plate as is.. we got the risotto, burger, salad - all distasteful. Absolutely no flavor. I don t know how one could make a Caesar salad taste that bad? Cheeseboard was okay, jam options limited, bread was stale. We sat in an area that felt like the spare warehouse back kitchen (I believe they called it a lounge ..) because dining area was full, which I understand. But sitting by the kitchen/extra chairs and fridges isn t really the definition of a lounge.. The waiter s tried their best. So I gave an extra star for that. But the food was so bad that we could not even put into words to even explain to our waiter. Because it s not her fault. All in all. Burger King dine-in is 10x more flavorful than this experience. I think Mcdonalds grilled chicken Ceasar is a great alternative.
I recently visited this hidden gem restaurant that offered a mixed experience. The service was consistently good, with friendly staff overall, although there seemed to be an exception with the manager. However, I must admit that the highlight of the evening was the bread and butter, and cheese board, which was good but over prices for what s offered.. Unfortunately, the food didn t quite meet our expectations. The Ceaser Salad was a major disappointment. It was underdressed and essentially tasted like a plate of plain lettuce, accompanied by a poached chicken breast with a bone-in thigh. The combination left much to be desired. The ahi tuna with avocado was another letdown. The dish lacked flavor, with the tuna tasting rather tasteless and the avocado not adding much to the experience. It felt like the fish might have been frozen, and the absence of any accompanying flavors further contributed to the disappointment. The risotto was another miss, as it turned out to be incredibly bland. It lacked the depth of flavor that one would expect from a well-prepared risotto, leaving us unsatisfied. While the atmosphere appeared to be pleasant, especially if seated closer to the water or outside, our experience in the lounge area felt lackluster. It seemed as if we were seated in a back room, which didn t contribute to the overall ambiance that we were hoping for. In conclusion, while the service and atmosphere had potential, the lackluster food experience, especially with the poorly executed Ceaser Salad, ahi tuna, and risotto, left much to be desired. It s a shame that the restaurant s potential didn t quite translate into a memorable dining experience.
There s a fine line between rustic and old, and the restaurant is in the latter. The service has been excellent each time we ve visited , from hostess to servers, no disappointment there. Food has been delicious and portions acceptable. Although options are very limited. We ve sat in the parlour (glass encased balcony) overlooking the falls each time (always been in winter) and this was our first in warm weather - never again. During winter the blanket of snow and water falls is beautiful to look at. But in warm weather the floor to ceiling windows are full of big, thick spiders. It is disturbing to have these pests crawling all around while dining . Management should really invest in installing a glass sliding panel (with a clear railing of sort for staff safety) to access the outside glass and clean of cob webs and spiders daily. The carpets are filthy, stained and old. We have photos from 6 years ago showing they re the same, so who knows how old they really are. This whole venue is in need of a good cleaning and update. There s a limit to how long you can qualify old and tired as rustic and Headwaters has reached its time.
Fantastic food, venue, and ambiance. Our server, Lisa, was amazing, friendly, and fun! Vegetarian options: Seafood or clear veggie options readily available.
They don t have any good food instead of crazy expensive price. I ordered lamb and I thought it is lamb chops with vegetables but I received the plate look like pince cut in half in middle of plate with foam at the top which makes it more disgusting and purple potatoes around the pince look like the rocks. My daughters had pasta which it wasn t pasta it was uncooked lazania loose in the plate my other daughter ordered steak and she wanted medium cooked which she received burned meat with cooked potatoes still no vegetables in any dish. Dessert was very small portion but was delicious. Person who served us was very nice music was good and atmosphere was lovely but I don t think I go back because they don t have any food for me
We celebrated our anniversary dinner tonight at Headwaters. The fresh bread was incredible. Service was fantastic, Jackie was extremely knowledgeable and anticipated our needs. Would have expected more selection of wines by the glass (and wines overall) and dinner features but the choices we went with (beef tenderloin, substituted frites for fingerling potatoes), was to die for. Grilled to perfection with beautiful accompaniments. The jus was divinely rich. We were fortunate to sit in the table overlooking the falls and it was lovely but was surprised there wasn t a spotlight on the water as the days get shorter. The windows could have used a wash as they were cobwebbed but this was only from the outside as far as I noticed. Aside from a few updates (refreshed table cloths), dinner was absolute perfection! We will be back and would highly recommend.
Had dinner here October 27th for our anniversary. Food was excellent. Our server Lisa I believe her name was excellent too. We returned for breakfast the next day and the food was excellent. No issues. Would return again
Beautiful getaway. Servers do the best they can but management and Christina never communicated much in regards to my wedding there. The food is way over priced. Dont bother doing wedding or events here, isnt worth it and youll be wondering whats happening-as planning is not their strong suit. They made me feel I had to spend an outrageous amount of money inorder to have a good experience. Will never ever say it was worth the amount of money. Husband and guests were very disappointed after our wedding. We reached out to Christina about the concerns but she never responded. Its been a couple months now. Not good memories and will never recommend
Absolutely love this place! The food is always amazing and the service fantastic....We are never disappointed when we visit! Always look forward to going again!
Came here for a celebratory Cgristmas 4 course dinner. Divine food, exquisite taste
The staff was nice. Consider when you choose the rooms. Rooms in main building are far from Spa, so every time you need to go by walk to get in your room and in winter, its very challenging. There are just 2 hot spring pools, not so big and we were lucky not to be busy. Room was clean and cozy. Unfortunately, we had a rough time as air conditioner of one side of the building wasnt working and we were frizzing whole night and they ran out of heater. At the end, they gave us some discount because of this unprecedent issue.
The food was excellent. I feel that the rooms were a bit pricey for vintage. Besides that, I had a wonderful time and would definitely come back.
I had an amazing experience here, the staff was super accommodating, Carlos was so friendly over the phone for room service and Sushma gave me one of the best RMT massages Ive ever had. She really knows what she s doing and she was so sweet and kind and always making sure I felt safe, comfortable, and pampered. Will definitely be coming back
Stayed two nights and had dinner here as well. The food is phenomenal! We were well taken care of by Angel & Debra.
So good! Service, menu selection was excellent!
The food was good. Certain items were too fussed over. We thought the service was poor for such a fine dining restaurant.
Dont get me wrong this place has beautiful grounds, and it was incredibly nice to get away. But when youre comparing it to one of the other vintage hotels this doesnt fit to par with the others. From the moment we walked in I felt like we were constantly waiting and having to ask for things whereas any other vintage hotel Ive gone to I felt like we were doted on. We had no towels when we arrived to our room and had to ask for them. I understand that this could just be a complete mistake, but things still didnt line up with any of the other hotels. I also didnt realize that the hotel isnt connected like the others. So youre having to walk outside in the cold to get to the restaurant and to the spa. Normally things like this dont bother me but when you bring nice clothes to wear to dinner and shoes and cant do that because you arent in the same building, its a little annoying. The spa was nice but felt more like a facility then a spa. The steam room which Im so thankful was open was very dirty and everything was rusted and falling apart. According to my husband there was no room in the mens change room. The indoor pool was dirty and had debris floating all around it. This is upsetting considering they had only just opened it on 17 February. The hot tubs were nice minus the floating toilet paper. Its almost as if the filters hadnt been cleaned out. When we stayed at another hotel we had service on the patio and deck. We had to go find somebody who was never in the café area so we were always having to ask where she was to get drinks and food. The weather was quite bad so one day they just opted to not replacing her so we werent even able to get drinks or food and had to leave the spa to do so. The food however was immaculate, and when you did ask for things most of the time your wishes were fulfilled. The service was good when asked, but thats the point it shouldve already been in place. It really is the small things that make your trip that much better. For what you pay for I wasnt impressed. Especially with comparing it to one of the other hotels from the vintage line you are already know what to expect and it shouldve been the same service and everything all around.
Our first visit was amazing, and look forward to the next
We had a package for a stay millcroft that included dinner here. Our experience was one of the highlights. Nice ambiance, tables were spaced out enough so that you didnt feel crowded but there was a good vibe in the space. We had a nice table with a view of the waterfall. Lisa our server, was knowledgeable and personable. We had the Lamb tartare and tortellini appys. Both very good and nicely presented. For dinner the tenderloin and venison, both tender and cooked to perfection. Probably the first time I had venison but very soft and flavourful with a nice glaze on top. The portions werent large but we felt good afterwards. Then desert was the creme Brule and maple honey tart. Both delicious but we were getting too full to finish. Well done to the team. You exceeded our expectations.
Great food and great service. Wine list is a bit pricey for the quality but our waiter still recommend a great bottle at a reasonable price.
A lovely spot - Prices are high however worth it for the quality, attention to detail that gets put into every dish, and unique flavours. Amy was our server and she had the perfect amount of presence throughout the evening to make our experience exactly what we were hoping for. Thank you !
One of our top 10 meals ever! Even the homemade bread for starters was surprisingly good. The menu is fairly small, and everything looks, smells and tastes wonderful. For apps I had lamb tartar which was artfully placed on the plate with dabs of several sauces. My wife had the duck confit tortellini, and after tasting both Id say that hers had a slight leg up. We knew that we were in for a new experience from the layered flavours. Wow! Main course: Venison tenderloin served rare with a light pistachio crust was next. It was my first tasting of venison and I enjoyed its tenderness and flavour (distinct and not at all gamey). Roasted duck breast served medium rare was across from me and as far as main courses go, these were equals. I wondered if they use sous vide to get the meat up to temp before finishing on the grill because they really got the tenderness inside and the caramelization outside perfectly. But thats just me guessing, and Im not a chef. :^) We finished with bourbon creme brulee which was served with a playful theme of a chocolate cremeux ciga[r], shot glass and edible tray. I had the Millcroft signature honey and maple which was the lighter of the two deserts and came with delicate and colourful cookie-like wafers on top.Yum It was admittedly quite pricey but the meal was unique (sublime even?) and Im still enjoying it a week later as I write this. I would recommend this as part of an overnight package so that the billing doesnt hinder your menu selections. Staff was fun. Decor was quite modern yet had the dark wood vibe of an english pub (but with better food and aromas!) There was no formal dress code and everything felt relaxed and enjoyable.
My husband and I stayed for two nights at the millcroft hotel to celebrate our honeymoon on March 5, 2022. We were turned away from the restaurant for not having proof of vaccination even after the government policy had ended on March 1st. We understand a business has the right to continue with the policy, however we were not notified of the hotels decision to continue it even though they had sent us multiple confirmation emails about our reservation. We had to cancel our dinner reservations. Although we were still able to use the outdoor pools and sauna, in close contact with others. We even had a couples massage . We were disappointed with the lack of consistency in their policy and the way we were discriminated against. We spent over $1400 for two nights (plus extra gas to leave the hotel multiple times to eat elsewhere) and we felt robbed of our honeymoon experience. I have reached out to the manager multiple times to try and rectify the situation and am now being completely ignored.
The service was amazing, Erica is the most positive aspect of the experience at the restaurant and at the spa in general. The food was ok, nothing over the top compared to what s in town in Orangeville. I do acknowledge we went for breakfast so that may be it.
We haven t been able to travel much for the last two years in fact hardly at all, but as we neared the end of our lunch, we both agreed that if we were sitting in a French restaurant again, we would be saying at this point in the meal that.... this is very good. And it is here too. And close to home
Extremely disappointing The tuna app was $25 and it came without the vinergarette dressing and was basically heavily salted raw tuna with an absolutely tasteless 3 dots of a green sauce. We didnt finish as we wanted to talk to the waiter but a girl came by and took our plates even before we were done ad we put them to the side. My main course was lamb and I asked for it as rare as lamb is cooked...it came blue! I dont know if thats safe. It was also missing half the meal! It was 3 pieces of heavily salted lamb no other spices and a boiled potatoes with a smidgen of dry tasteless green spice. There was a brown sauce smeared on the plate that basically tasted like salt! I later found out that the pea puree and artichoke was missing!! I only ate one piece of lamb and one potatoes, and the waiter didnt even ask why I didnt like it! The waiter was extremely awkward and made us feel very uncomfortable. He kept saying how are we doing, he should have used you. My lamb was $52, how could they serve that when most of the meal was missing!! Horrible experience
Exceptional food and service
Incredible view, food and service.
If you re planning a visit to the Millcroft spa, then dining at this restaurant is definitely a must, with an amazing dining view of the water and the falls. My gf and I ate here during the lunch hour and ordered: Seared Foie Gras (4/5), Hand rolled Gnocchi (4.9/5) Beef Short Rib Pot Pie (5/5), which was probably the best one where the meat literally just falls off the bone and was very flavourful. Overall I can t wait to go back to the spa and eat at the restaurant again in the future.
Excellent dinner and breakfast. Took part in a few Spa treatments as well. First class. Top notch quality and service. Celebrated our 30th Anniversary and were treated to a tremendous time. Highly reccomend.
Delicious food and nice ambiance
Visually the restaurant is quite pleasant with a few tables overlooking the falls. Expect a set menu of three mains for the entirety of your stay. Service is prompt and professional. Very limited handicap parking. Muscles app was good. 1 star for service and 1 star for ambiance. Thats it.
this is what I wrote on my review of the Millcroft and I stand by it Overpriced is an understatement but worse is that the food does not match the vibe. A beautiful Ontario inn should feature rustic farm to plate food not pretentious dollops of sauces or vegetables. It just feels like a chef trying to show off or justify $57 for a disappointing beef tenderloin. Maybe try some seasoning too. This is my third time at the Inn )though the first two occasions were work events ) and I left less impressed than on previous visits.
We spent our honeymoon at Millcroft and got the package that included dinners. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! Both nights we sat in the little room on the side right above the river and my only comment is that the room got quite cold.
Didnt eat here but stayed for a night. Great pools and very relaxing
Great cozy place with beautiful winter views. Good service, short waiting times. The chef has a very particular but interesting style. Prices are fair just a very romantic atmosphere all around, except for the background music. (To repetitive, to the point I noticed it).
Incredible grounds for amazing hikes. The fire place in our room and pools at the spa were blissful. Will be back.
Brought my mom for her 50th we had such a wonderful day and headwaters was our last stop. Meg was an amazing server she was so helpful in describing dishes as my mom is vegetarian. She even made my mom feel special. She was so kind and I have never had a server that polite and respectful. The food was phenomenal and I dont say that lightly. We had the veggie dishes and they had flavour which is hard to find. Meg even made us mock tails that were so delicious, she improvised and we just felt so special. Overall great experience mainly because of Meg. Vegetarian options: There was a soup, salad and main dish. All unique and flavourful
We had wonderful time as we got the table with the best view. Food was good though very few menu choices for lunch.Server was friendly and the service was quick. Surrounding grounds were nice to walk around and was nice to see the water fall up close. Would definitely go back !
The food is good.
I spent my Christmas holidays here with my son. Very beautiful place just 40 minutes from Mississauga. The customer service is just brilliant. So efficient . The Croft rooms are so lovely with private hot tub and a scenic view of the garden. The Christmas dinner was so yum. Going back for sure I went again during fathers day weekend Beautiful comparison between summer and winter time
Wonderful 2 Day Graduation Celebration Grandma and 6yrs old Granddaughter. They spoiled her and made our experience very special
Great location n surroundings. Accommodations are a 3 star. Food is excellent. Unfortunate encounter with Jeff , the restaurant manager over a choice of a table on the patio and and he never apologized. Suggest he get some training on customer relations. Other staff were excellent.
I tecently had a $25 bacon cheeseburger on the outdoor patio. Paying for the view as the buger was dry and tasteless. I expected much better for the price.
Melody was an absolute pleasure! Her positive energy and enthusiasm was so lovely and her knowledge of the menu was extremely helpful. Highly recommend!
Great attention to detail by staff. Patio location is wonderful
Im on the Vintage Resort Website for Niagara on the Lake which Millcroft is affiliated. I receive notices covering specials, pricing, and promotions. So when you luxurious getaway, login you wont be disappointed.
The appetizer was delicious. The main course was also excellent. We also enjoyed dessert. The servers were very professional and friendly. Excellent dining experience.
Spa customer service via telephone was unhelpful & lacking skill.
Gorgeous view, excellent food with an incredible ambience at surprisingly reasonable prices
Hidden gem!! Highly recommended. Small menu and quite wordy but the cuisine is exquisite and well worth the guess work. Great staff great atmosphere!
Beautiful patio and property. Staff is very friendly
This is a late post for our stay in March of 2021. What an amazing little gem of a place!! Me and my fiance stayed in one of the croft rooms and we were so impressed with the service right from check-in when we recieved a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate our Anniversary. Unfortunately due to the pandemic , a lot of the spa amenities and in-dining restaurants were closed, but it didnt dampen our stay! We actually loved that we had our 5 star meals delivered right to our room and had a little table and chairs set up. It was the perfect romantic winter getaway topped with private access to our own little hot tub facing the woods and the distant sound of the waterfalls. During the day there are so many goregous trails to enjoy and we looked forward to returning to our room to cozy up with the wood burning fireplace and heated flooring ( this was the best part!!!) . We will 100% be back - hopefully we can enjoy the spa next time :)
Textures of (mushrooms) was amazing. Loved the atmosphere! Enjoyed our anniversary dinner on the waterfalls edge while taking in the sunset
Phenomenal experience! We stayed overnight for our anniversary and enjoyed the spa & hot pools, dinner and breakfast. Food is DELICIOUS (dinner was the best meal Ive had all year), and service is incredible. Megan from the dining room guided us through a wonderful dinner experience and even drew us a map of a local walking trail, Melissa from the poolside café was so friendly and made sure our drinks were full even though she was super busy, and Eduardo from the pool area was super kind! The property is gorgeous, the team is wonderful and we cant wait to return!
Customer service here is very poor, the staff members are extremely nice, however, management needs to spend the extra money and hire more staff. On our first night we had a 3.5 hour dinner because our food and drinks took that long to be served. Plus they ONLY had two wait staff serving a sold out hotel, imagine how stressful that was on the staff members. We couldnt even be upset with them because they were working as fast as they could. On our second day it took one hour for our breakfast to be served to our room, when we were told itll take 30 minutes. The rooms were average, not really the wow affect, especially with how much they charge you. Careful when you book the packages, we booked the one with breakfast, dinner, and wine included, but they failed to give us our bottle of wine on our second day, we had to go to front desk and ask for it. Being such an elite hotel and spa area, customer service is crucial. On the day of check out it seemed that everyone else had big issues as well. Check out in general took over 45 minutes, it wasnt organized and efficient. Overall, I wouldnt come again, if Im spending a hefty amount for a getaway Im expecting the service with it.
Food was top notch, service was prompt and friendly. Would definitely suggest and go back.
Loved our stay here!! We ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints! Can t wait to go back! The amenities, food and vibe is perfect! See you again soon!
Service was glacially slow and yet not busy. My cheeseburger was woefully over cooked and we are still waiting for my wife s side salad! Not acceptable level of attention to detail for a facility that advertises itself as one of the Vintage hotels with the reflected charges accompanying the reputation.
Food was great, and so was the service. My boyfriend and I enjoyed very much.
Recently held my Daughters Baby shower in the Erin room (25 people). The Millcroft staff were phenomenal and the food bar none! I would highly recommend the Millcroft for any upcoming event you may have!
Everything we ordered was fantastic, from the wine to the food. So many different flavors to savor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. If the weather is permitting leave yourself enough time to walk the trails through the forest and to walk along the falls. Beautiful setting.
Wow! No words can describe how good this place actually is. If your staying at millcroft inn this is a must try!! Definitely will be back for the restaurant. Jade and Andrew were amazing host
The service and the food was good. A little pricier than than I would expect.
It was great!!! First time and we enjoyed ourselves. Service was great, thanks Ivy, our virtual concierge. Dinner was fantastic, but breakfast was nothing special, sorry. Thats where I took a star away. Hopefully, we get spa services next time. Cant wait to head back in March
We stayed at Millcroft for 2 nights in September for our 20th anniversary. The inn itself is lovely and the grounds are beautiful. The staff were nice but there werent enough of them. Upon arrival we were told that our room wasnt ready but that a concierge would text us, bring us our keys and show us around. None of that happened. After an hour we went to the front desk to find that indeed our room was ready but no concierge as promised. They gave us a wrong roomkey which resulted in us going back to the front desk and wait in line for the real one. Not a very good first impression of a 5 star inn. We were in need of a light lunch but the only choices on the lunch menu were quite heavy ( steak, lambchops) but we found out after eating, that there was an alternate menu if you ate on the patio. Why didnt the hostess inform us? Dinners were fabulous and dinner staff were wonderful. Breakfasts were not pleasant. The menu only had very fancy, heavy options but even for this fine dining experience, sometimes you just want bacon and eggs. We asked if that was possible so they prepared our special order that took over an hour and charged us $44 for 2 orders of bacon ( 2 slices) and two eggs. No homefries. The pool area was just ok and could use a facelift. The lady working at the pool was lovely. So glad we booked our spa treatments weeks ahead because they book quickly. The women at the spa were wonderful and treatments were lovely. I dont like giving 3 star reviews and Im sure that these things will improve with more staff. I should note that on our checkout the gentleman at the front desk removed one of our breakfasts from the bill after we informed him of our experiences.
Came here for a little honeymoon and the new menu was just rolling out. The food was ridiculous! One of the best meals we have ever had. And the staff were fantastic.
Did not have a good experience at the restaurant. There were lack of services, and because there was a wedding, it took around an hour for the main course to come, appetizers didnt brought out that quick either. Noticed quite a few tables nearby were in the same situation. The waitress came to apologize half an hour after the appetizers were finished. The Thanksgiving turkey was tasteless, the mashed potatoes was cold. I think the dessert left in the kitchen for a while, by the time the dessert came to our table, the ice cream was melted. I understand there was a wedding, but if the kitchen cant handle that many orders at a time, they probably shouldnt take that many reservations during that time. Dont think Ill ever go back.
Had dinner here on Thanksgiving Sunday 2021. Opted for the 3 course Thanksgiving menu - PEI Mussels (served lukewarm in a thin broth that was allegedly lobster bisque), Turkey (overcooked and again served cold with cold mashed potatoes and carrots) and a pecan chocolate dessert (ironically the only dish not served cold as the ice cream was melted into a puddle when I received it). Due to what we were told was a busy kitchen due to a wedding, dinner took over 2.5 hours during which time service was incredibly infrequent (at one point it took over 25 minutes to receive a drink). Given the lack of quality with the food, slow service coupled with the fact the meal cost over $200 for two people, I just cannot recommend anything about this restaurant.
Incredible flavours combinations. Nice ambience. Window tables overlooking water are a nice treat.
This is one of our favourite spots to eat when we stay at Mill Croft. Absolutely beautiful sunset out on the patio. Our last stay was around Thanksgiving. The staff and the food are top notch. Have recommended to many people for a stay just 45 minutes from Toronto.
Amazing food great for special celebrations
What a lovely anniversary weekend! Had an amazing time. The overall service at the Inn/Spa was really great. Dinner was excellent. Side note- softest robes ever... wow!
Great as usual
Had a nice 1-night stay at the Inn, were able to access the pools and take in a delicious meal at Headwaters. The decor and general level of maintenance and polish was a bit lacking, especially considering the price point, which is unfortunate as the setting is lovely.
The food is pretty good, each dish has so many elements youre pretty much guaranteed to both like and dislike something on the plate. The server Fred....kept sticking his fingers 2cm from my food, improperly naming what I was about to eat. Fred also wasnt wearing a mask - and Im sorry but 19 months into the pandemic you really shouldnt be allowed to serve food if you dont have a mask. I wouldnt eat here again if Fred was my server. The atmosphere in the restaurant was romantic, and the rest of the staff were really nice and helpful. Beautiful view if you are lucky enough to reserve a seat in the pod, overlooking the waterfall. Prices are reasonable for fine dining, expect to pay $100/person for a three course meal.
Back in August, I booked a stay at Millcroft for my sister for this weekend. Our mother passed away earlier this year and my sister had been helping to take care of her and I wanted to give her a getaway to relax. She drove an hour yesterday after work to get there and found her room had not been cleaned - dirt on the tables, hair in the tub, used make up remover on the counter, coffee stains. There were no other rooms available so she had to leave. I had called yesterday morning to confirm everything was in order. This was also a birthday present. I am absolutely disgusted and dont understand how this could have happened, particularly during a pandemic. If I could give zero stars, I would.
We stayed in the Croft rooms with a personal outdoor hot tub. The room was clean but a little dated, more of a rustic vibe but I don t personally mind more of a cottage type feel. The food and service was amazing. We were lucky to get both dinner and breakfast in the pod over looking the waterfall. In response to one of the previous reviewers, in my opinion the breakfast was excellent. I m not sure if they had the continental breakfast but I had the smoked bacon skillet and it was fantastic! Also, another reviewer mentioned softest robes ever, which is 100% correct, I wanted to take mine home
I have stayed at the Inn twice before (and worked there as a chamber maid 40 years ago) and have always had an exceptionally wonderful experience at the Millcroft. As mentioned by other reviewers, the grounds are lovely and the food is always beyond expectations. The pools are a welcome and relaxing respite from a working holiday. Since I have such high expectations of the Inn based on prior experience, I was so disappointed with my last two night stay. For the first time, I stayed in the Manor House as I wanted a lot of room to spread out to work. My first disappointment was my discovery that the hot tubs were cold and had not been working for a couple of days. I had a soak in the tub in my room which was a pleasant but poor substitute. The pools were not fixed until the evening of the second day of my stay. As I sat down to my work, I was shocked and dismayed to find there were many used tissues underneath my bed. This would be a gross discovery under any circumstance, but during COVID, it was cause for even more dismay. The third and most concerning disappointment was my discovery of black mold on each of the nine panes of glass in the door leading to the patio. I was promptly moved to a second room (which I appreciated, but it was annoying to have to pack everything up in order to move). I will point out that the food was still exceptional and I would like to specifically name one of my servers, Jackie, who was likely the very best server I have ever had, and I have travelled quite extensively. Reception did apologize for any inconvenience and they did move me to another room, but that does not negate the fact that I was initially provided a room that had the potential to put my health at risk. IF I were to stay again, I would choose a room in the main inn as they have been recently renovated and have had the carpets removed so it feels like a much cleaner room and the last time I stayed it was spotlessly clean. The Manor House is in its original condition and is in need of major renovations to deal with the mold issue (the second room I was shown in the Manor House also had a lot of mold on the windows). In the end, I was extremely disappointed as the stay was not inexpensive and I felt nothing was done to ensure that I might return for another stay.
Great ambiences and service with awesome food
it is a hidden gem...if you want to treat yourself well ho here
Great food. Service was top notch. Thank you to Jackie and Carlos.
Ive stayed at Millcroft a couple times now, Nov 20th being my last visit. It certainly has gone downhill a bit. Food was great, staff friendly but wouldnt stay over night again especially in room #251 as it has a very loud air compressor that goes off every two hours waking you up. Who puts an air compressor in the ceiling in a hotel room??We told the front desk staff and she didnt seem to care. The breakfast deal is not worth the money since its not the wonderful buffet it used to be. Rays Third Generation restaurant just up the road I highly recommend
Been here twice, both times nightmare. First time, not spas fault, stuff happens. Recently was my second time. The check in at reception was brutal. They put a hold on my ccard for accidental for $900, when asked to justify the price, she had no idea, then was changed to $500 which still made no sense. As Im going to the spa to try and find a manager a lady (guest) is outside freaking out to a spa employee (spa manager) she was complaining about the same thing. Spa manager saved the day to say the least. For a high end place that charges what they do, they really are not up to standard. Unfortunately I will not spend any nights there again. With all the competition now, Ill take my business elsewhere. Kudos to the spa staff, they are well trained, professional, kind and were top notch.
Terrible place went for our anniversary we checked into a freezing cold room after using there pools. It was absolutely freezing. We turned the thermostats on and the upstairs one never came on the one on the lower floor did but wasnt very warm. We put the fire place on but the heat just goes up the flu. We called the front desk and they sent a maitance guy he said it seems like the boiler wasnt working. He offered to put space heaters which was ridiculous at almost 400 a night that is not what we felt was a reasonable fix. He left went to speak to the front desk staff ten minutes later they called and said there was one room they could put us in, but it didnt have the hot tub we paid extra for. They never offered us a credit. We decided to leave they apologized. They said the manager will call me today that didnt happen. Wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.
*Restaurant* Couldnt call ahead for reservations, phone was never answered so we had to talk to the hostess upon arrival. The food was amazing, but our server Angel made the experience. He was attentive, gave great suggestions and really knew the menu. *Hotel & Grounds* The hotel was overall nice. The pools were great, but I was left smelling like chlorine after a hot shower. The hotel room (Croft) was ok, it felt pretty dated. There were parts of the ground that were pretty dirty and uncared for. For the price everyone pays, I do think they should maintain the grounds a bit better. I do like the Pillar and Post better. We will not be returning (maybe for dinner) but not to stay.
Our experience at the Millcroft Spa was amazing! All thanks to our amazing server at the Headwaters Restaurant - Lisa! This was our best experience ever by any server we have ever had in our entire lives. From when we were first introduced to her, to the moment we left, we had an amazing experience. She is the reason we would come to the Millcroft Inn. She went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Lisa gave us special treatment throughout and made sure we were accommodated throughout the whole time we were there. She checked in regarding every question we had, and all of our special asks. She was also able to get us the amazing chocolate mousse through her requests to the dessert chef. We had a voucher we were redeeming and from the moment we entered the establishment we made it known we would be using it to use towards our bill. Lisa made sure of this before we placed our orders, checking in with multiple people (including Debra - the supervisor from that night who approved our requests on Nov 25th, 2021). Lisa was also so kind that she surprised us with the Girls Trip message on our dessert plates. If you go to the Headwaters restaurant, make sure you ask to be served by Lisa. You will enjoy not only the quality desserts but also the amazing service throughout from Lisa. We would also like to point out the amazing service from the reception at the Millcroft Inn & Spa. Katerina, was able to sort out and communicate with us when we had a misunderstanding with our voucher and what was communicated to us the night prior by the supervisor at the Headwaters Restaurant (through Debra). She was patient, understanding, and very supportive throughout our checkout process. The Millcroft Inn is lucky to have Lisa & Katerina working at their Inn. Thank you for the amazing service, and the relaxing stay both! :)
Breakfast was very good. (Smoked salmon skillet) Staff were friendly.
Had a beautiful breakfast beside the falls! Both server and hostess were friendly and provided outstanding service. Food was top notch!
Such a gorgeous setting and could be incredible, but a very poorly run hotel. Extremely rude/un professional at the front desk. I booked 8 rooms for a weekend.
Headwaters is a wonderful restaurant but it doesn t have a dress code. Had a $300 dinner but had at to look at a slob in a track suit seated in the next table. Ambiance destroyed as well as the likelihood of my return. Owners need their head read!!
Food was incredible and offered many unique items that I havent seen elsewhere. The highlight for me was the salmon, but the venison tenderloin was also incredible.
Delicious meal. Fresh vegetables. Great environment. Please bring back the root chips!
We have been guests at the restaurant for many years with a hiatus of two years due to Covid. Today we were here for a birthday lunch. We arrived on time for our reservation, ordered drinks and were presented with the menu. The drinks arrived. The tea did not come with milk or sugar. We asked the waitress and then found ourselves without spoons to stir with. We both ordered the strip loin. It took well over 30 minutes to arrive at our table (we had not ordered appetizers). The steak was overdone. Medium well became well done plus. The rosti was unrecognizable: way overcooked, dry and tasting of char not potatoes. It broke into pieces rather than cut. The plate was warmer than the food on it. I had chips on the plate which I believe were parsnip and were also charred. The pastry chef saved the meal from being rated much lower with a whimsical dessert that included a creme brulé, a shot of bourbon in simple syrup and a chocolate cigar resting on an oreo cookie crumb ashtray. I am hoping this just a bad day in the kitchen, but with a bill of almost $160.00 including tax and tip for two, this birthday disappointment was not a welcome one. We will give it one more go at a later date. Hopefully our next experience will be better. Menus, tea and sugar sleeves were also not removed from the table. The photo seems to have cropped itself. If you tap on it, you can see the items that were not removed from the table.
I stayed for 1 night with 2 croft rooms and 9 spa services for 8 people. I booked the spa services 6 months in advance and confirmed services and timing multiple times in the week leading up to our stay. Unfortunately none of the services met our expectations. An 80 minute RMT massage was less than 50 minutes, three 75 minute facials were 50 minutes or less. One facial was booked for 1:00 and was moved to 3:30 with no notice and no apologies when the guest showed up for the service at 12:50 as instructed when checking in. Room service was ordered and took 1.5 hours to be delivered. It was a simple charcuterie board that was very disappointing once received. For a destination known as a hotel and spa, the spa services were incredibly disappointing and not worth the price.
The staff had no customer service skills or courtesy. While we waited for a change of room , we were not asked to sit in the lounge. After walking around for a while and upon asking if we could sit, we were directed to sit in lounge/ restaurant. At this lounge we ordered tea, and the server never got sugar with the tea, so spotting and asking her for sugar she went and never brought sugar. The next morning while we waited for our ride, we went back to the same lounge/ restaurant to wait in some heat.. and this time before Greeting us and introducing herself, the first thing a staff member asked is for my vaccine passport, when I informed her my phone has died , she said we cant sit there and then continued to say the restaurant doesnt open until 12 pm. Had she inquired why were were there she wudnt even need to ask my vaccine my passport. The rooms are dated, no maintenance, no tea coffee .. just a small espresso machine. I feel upset that my husband spent money for birthday and its gone to waste. The one star is for the already existing history of the place.
Best Fish and Chip in town!
Review on the food: The food at Millcroft Inn & Spa is definitely 5-star worthy. Make sure you make a reservation for dinner at their in-house, Headwaters Restaurant! My date and I came here during Thanksgiving long weekend; that turkey dinner was PERFECT. The appetizers and dessert were also very delicious - we shared the seared scallops, ravioli (omg that sauce!), ruby beet soup, and a strawberry mousse dessert :) Breakfast AYCE style is also served at Headwaters Restaurant. You can include the breakfast package to your stay, or it will be $17 per person (I think). Nothing crazy about the breakfast, except for the omelette station :) made fresh to order! The scenic view from our seat is also breathtaking: waterfall and fall foliage everywhere! The fully-licensed cafe inside Millcroft Spa is the perfect spot to grab a quick bite or enjoy an afternoon snack after the spa treatment :) Our lovely server, Birgit is the sweetest; she is funny, accommodating, and we enjoyed her service! We shared a charcuterie board with a side of assorted breads, and a fruit-filled creme dessert full of rum (my fave!). . . . . For review on the accommodation, and the spa experience, please refer to my review on the Millcroft Spa location
We spent 2 nights and had a dinner on one of them. Food was exquisite. Service was excellent as well. My wife compared it to a dinner by a guest Michelin star we had a few years ago. Saying that, they had a few small things that was different from the preference for me, but execution was excellent.
This restaurant was OUTSTANDING! It truly exceeded our expectations. The food and the service was 10/10.
Service was excellent and food was good, but patio is far too expensive for what you get and braised ribs were not as described. Said braised for 16 hours, but served medium rare.
Customers service doesn t match five stars hotel quality. Booking specialists was not friendly over the phone, definitely you don t want experience this service when paying high fee for a stay.
Service is exceptional. Our meal was included included as part of our package... But even though we paid for a package deal, the service received felt like we were paying regular price. Food was amazing!
I just loved the place! Great Attention! The food was so so so so good! I wish i could give this 10 stars. If you want to spend a very nice weekend I recommend you this wonderful place! YOU ARE GOING TO FALL IN LOVE WITH IT JUST LIKE I DID! Great People It felt like HOME!
Great service, great food .
Another amazing experience with the staff and their quick setup change of the ceremony location. This venue cares about you.
Stayed for one night. Upon arriving, the building was beautiful and the interior of the building is quite vintage but with a touch of modern. They provided a complimentary bottle of wine- we were celebrating a birthday. Due to covid, we couldnt dine in the main area inside but we ate out in the tent area. It was quite beautiful to see the lake and the colours of the trees as we ate. The food was absolutely delicious! Ordered the thanksgiving dinner. Very impressed with the service. Our server was very caring, informative, friendly and super professional. Our room was very clean, beautiful and the view was beautiful. We were right on the lakeside so we could see over the lake and the small waterfall. The service over at the heated pool area was great. The ladies were informative and super friendly. The most relaxing and amazing heated pools I have ever come across. Overall, extremely impressed with the service and the place itself. It felt as if we were on vacation far away and really it was in Ontario!! Highly recommend for relaxing. Safe to say, the best birthday relaxing weekend I have had in a while!
Great Food
We bought a one night package for the croft suite that came with a private hot tub and included a 3 course meal. we opted to have a bit of a spa day prior to check in - the spa and outdoor amenities are beautiful and the staff there was amazing. The hotel itself though is really outdated - our room looked old, and didnt have much to offer in regards to a guest experience. The heater didnt work in our room, and we were only given 2 towels to share for both the hot tub and the shower. Although the rooms werent the greatest, the staff made up for it - we had to call a few times for ice, to fix the heater in our room, and to even clean up our patio area - they were very prompt and helpful with fixing everything. They are the reason this is a 4 star and not a 3. In regards to the 3 course meal - due to covid, we had to eat in our room. At first we thought it was a romantic idea, but it was just a table with a table cloth given and the entire meal was dropped off in one delivery on a tray so nothing was temperature controlled - the soup looked like it had gone off roading, the ice cream had melted, and the meat was overcooked due to sitting for so long. The meal still tasted good, but it just wasnt the same as sitting at a restaurant and being served - there was no one to ask for a glass of water, or for salt, etc. It would have been nice if the table had a bit more (flowers/ candles, Salt and pepper, properly set) to provide a better in-dining feel, and if the meal was delivered differently - perhaps one of those serving carts to keep the temp properly, or have the courses served separately instead of all at once. Its obvious they werent prepared for the covid shutdown. Either way, we still enjoyed our stay and made the best of it. We plan to return again but we wouldnt spend as much as we did - the final bill didnt match the overall experience.
I really really want to give this 5 stars but did not have a good experience with my pedicure service. The lady cut my same toe in two different places and I could not wear socks for two days because it was painful. Aside from that, the grounds are beautiful, the food was good. (we had dinner and breakfast) loved the pools and the massages. Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and he also loved it. I have recommended it to all my friends (minus the pedicure services). The staff are all so nice and polite, and very helpful when it came to any questions or recommendations during our stay. Really hope to visit again soon
Stayed in the Crofts Room with a hot tub for our anniversary. Food was amazing, wood burning fireplace is a nice touch. Since the dining room was closedfor breakfast, a small dining table was put into our room. The decor of the Croft is a little more rustic family cottage - while not an issue for me, it might help to give the doors a fresh coat of paint when starting to chip. The bed was very comfortable. Melody, our server for dinner, was an absolute treat and even had our dessert ran to our room later after dinner since we were too full to have it right away! We enjoyed the trails on the property, and will definitely be back.
We stayed for a one night accommodation in the Croft room with a wood burning fireplace which added such a romantic touch as we were Celebrating our one year Wedding Anniversary and this was our first weekend away without kids. From the moment we checked into the Inn the staff greeted us with smieyes( smiling eyes) but we knew underneath the masks they were smiling as well. The spa & the outdoor amenities were beautiful and the staff was exceptional. We enjoyed a peaceful candle light dinner on the patio terrace close to the waterfall where we got to take in the scenic nature view lakeside while enjoying our meal. Our server Jacqueline was amazing. She even went above and beyond and brought us blankets out as the wind was starting to pick up. We then were delivered a Happy 1st Anniversary desert and let me tell you it was delicious and made us feel so special. We enjoyed our time and will definitely be back.
Excellent food and service
Had a beautiful lunch on a beautiful day. Service, food and scenery are exceptional!
The Millcroft Inn was a nice getaway... The spa area is clean and they have someone policing the hot springs to ensure that all guests are able to enjoy by timing stays if the pools are at capacity. This aspect is very well thought out While we were there we enjoyed a couples massage, it was very nice and relaxing. We also had lunch at the headwaters restaurant which was lovely. The food was great; we had the scallops and the lamb, both were wonderful. We enjoyed the trails on the property, they were a nice activity to take part in while remaining on the property. We stayed in a croft room with the hot tub....now, as stated in previous reviews, these rooms are tired, they could use some paint to freshen them up. The hot tub was ok...its not private at all...but we used it anyways and enjoyed. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were so puffy youre basically sitting up, I ended up sleeping directly on the bed, which was fine. The wood burning fireplace was awesome...but they have the couch situated in such a way that you cannot see it....we ended up moving the couch to suit our wants and it was perfect. The staff go out of their way to ensure that you have an amazing time...and this is why we will be back again!
Was really hoping for a 5 star experience. Booked a croft a room with fireplace and private hot tub weeks in advance for my boyfriends birthday. Hotel staff was very accommodating, gave him a birthday card and a bottle of wine when we checked in. Room was comfortable and mostly clean, couch had some white stains on the cushions. Very disappointed in the spa. Staff called the room early in the morning to say we werent going to get the couples massage I booked as one of the massage therapists called in sick. She did say I could come alone for my massage which would have left my boyfriend sitting alone on his birthday while I received treatment. This wasnt an option for me so cancelled the whole thing. She offered us appointments for the following day, however we are not local so that was also not an option.
Due to Covid, room service was the only option. Ordered the same meal twice. On the first day the steak was a horrible cut and very difficult to saw through with a steak knife. Essentially inedible. The cheese plate was okay not really a good selection of bread, and certainly not enough for all of the cheese that was there. On the second day it was perfect. Which is good because that was our 24th wedding anniversary and everything should be perfect that day. If my wife sees the picture of her taking a picture of her food though Im going to be in trouble
The grounds were beautiful and upon entry the Croft room looked great too- especially the fire. We checked in at 3 and had hoped to use the hot tub in the afternoon but when we checked the temperature was at only at 90 degrees. The hot tub was only warmed to temperature by 9pm which was disappointing. The food was good, but since all of the courses came at once to the room the ice cream was melted and the main was only a little warm. Perhaps the worst, and most unsettling part was that we didnt notice until the morning that the carpet was riddled with so many small bugs. We packed up and checked out immediately and when we showed the video we had taken of the bugs they claimed it was to be expected because the room is located in a forest. Regardless of the location, no hotel in this price bracket should consider bugs a normality. The lack of concern by the front desk staff was unnerving and we will NOT be back. Please if you are planning to go or already have booked please check the room for bugs upon check-in.
Beautiful restaurant, took my breath away. Service was excellent. Presentation of food I give 5 stars, taste 3, portion size 3.
The dinner started out well with friendly service. The food was excellent, compliments to the kitchen. However the evening ended on a sour note as we were asked to leave our table 15 minutes before their second seating to finish our dessert in the lounge in order to make way for the second seating. Never in my life has this ever happened to me! When I asked the manager, I was simply given the answer that this was normal procedure. Would have appreciated them promptly serving our desserts and allowing us to finish our meal at our table. We could have been finished within the 15 minutes that were left.
The menu was good and the food was well portioned and really delicious. Service was also nice. Highly recommend the place and food!! On the pricey side but definitely worth it!
hit and miss - fries were severly undercooked, short staffed and opened later than started on all signs/website/room card. chocolate dessert was fantastic. very long wait.
Location is great! Had a wonderful brunch birthday weekend! Spa is wonderful! Food could be a bit better-the duck on the menu was not a favorite!
Overall the food and service was good. We were a group of 7 and we stayed at the Milcroft Inn & Spa. We went to the Headwater Restaurant for afternoon tea, dinner and the next day breakfast. The view and the interior design was lovely! The breakfast was simple but good. The options for breakfast were pancakes, omlette, sausage, cereal, juice, etc. Dinner was mostly good, however, the duck and the vegetarian dish were on the saltier side, especially the duck. My grandparents ordered the duck and they didnt end up finishing their dish. For such a high price, I expected the salt and spices not be so overwhelming. Other than the saltiness, the vegetarian dish was very good and I enjoyed it very much. Everyone else also enjoyed their food and had no complains. Services was good but again, not great. Ive had much better service in much cheaper restaurants. Overall this was a good restaurant, needs some improvement but I would come back!
Very special place to take that special person.. the food is very tasty and classy..
It is rare to find an establishment that truly understands the meaning of fine dining . Outstanding service, creative flavorful menu, beautiful setting. If you are looking for the best, this is a guaranteed sure thing.
A very disappointing evening. We were there for a family celebration and my nineteen year old daughter (who did not have ID with her) was harassed by the staff and management because she had a wine glass in front of her. The food was overpriced, served lukewarm ( coffee too) and although beautifully presented was unmemorable in flavour. Would not recommend for any occasion.
A special treat! Afternoon tea was very nice and dinner was wonderful
Amazing, attentive service and incredible food. Everything we ordered was delicious and the nice touches of the amuse-bouche and lemon sorbet pallet cleanser really put the experience over the top. I will say, although the service and quality of food is worthy of the cost of the meal, the decor is not. The place is definitely due for a facelift. Still a wonderful dinner out.
A hotel, hotel and spa with elegant environment and good service.
Incredible. Wonderful staff, great environment, Delicious food. Would totally recommend.
Great fine dining experience.
