375 Wilson St E, Ancaster, ON L9G 2C1, Canada
Built in 1837 by George B. Rousseau, this Ancaster building was once owned by painter Frank Panabaker. Now a designated heritage building, it has been renovated and turned into an upscale brewpub — retaining many original features — by owner Andrew and brewmaster Ken whose automated system won a silver medal at the 2021 Canadian Brewing Awards.
Recently had lunch here during a road trip around Hamilton, and was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, the food was delicious, and the drinks were great. I had the Brewers Burger and honestly, it’s probably the best burger I’ve had from a restaurant in a very long time. I didn’t have to specifically ask for it to not be served under-cooked, the patty was on the thinner side so the meat to topping ratio was perfect, and it genuinely felt like a handmade burger. I rarely order a flight of beer and enjoy every single beer in the flight, but this was the case. The two lighter lagers were very smooth, and the two darker beers were also yummy (I don’t typically enjoy dark beer). Would definitely recommend this place and will for sure be returning soon.
I recently had lunch at Blackbird Brewery in Ancaster and found the setting quite appealing—a higher-end pub style. The ambiance was pleasant, with the door open, allowing fresh air to come through. Although we were given the option to sit outside, the staff informed us that there might be bees, so we chose to sit inside, They seated us at a table near the door. Unfortunately, the bees still found their way in, which was rather annoying. While I didn’t want to ask the staff to close the door and disrupt other guests, I do feel the restaurant should address this issue. As for the food, it was good. I ordered a pizza and a large chef salad, which was supposed to include pickled beets, onions, and radishes. However, I found myself searching for these ingredients—maybe one pickled onion turned up in the mix. Otherwise, it was just a basic spring mix with vinaigrette and some sesame seeds, which didn’t seem worth the $14.95 price. On a positive note, the service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive, and they have a good selection of house-brewed beers, which adds a nice touch to the overall experience.
My friends and I went in this afternoon for a bite to eat as we were in the neighborhood, and was close to this restaurant. When we arrived we were greeted by a nice young lady who sat the 6 of us at a table. They gave us menus and water. We looked through the menu, and while the menu didn't have a wide selection of items to choose from my husband and I chose the Chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was very delicious the fries were nothing special they tasted like they sat under a warmer for awhile The rest of our table enjoyed their meal too, but wasn't blown away by it. I gave the service a 1 star, because when they seated us they didn't come back to take our orders for at least 30 minutes which seemed excessive. We all decided on what to have in a very short time (10mins)and our menus were closed and in a pile at the end of our table. The restaurant was not very busy at all and the wait staff was standing around doing nothing. We had to raise our hand to get their attention to order, and when the gentleman came over he said" oh so sorry we were zoned out." We placed our orders and waited another 30 to 40 minutes for our meals. During the meal my glass was empty and no one came over to ask if I'd like a refill. For the price we paid for our meal which was pricey 57.00 for two Chicken sandwich and fries and 2 cokes, we would expect better service. The food was good but nothing to wow you, but service is definitely lacking. We will not be back!
Went following a golf game with my dad. Seated quickly on the patio. Ambiance - well maintained historic building with excellent furniture. Friendly, fast and professional. Drank the lager. Cold and tasty. Wings - a little pricey, but tasty. Wood fired pizza. Some of the best I’ve have in recent memory. Next time I’m in the area, I’ll go out of my way to ensure a return visit.
Always stop here when biking the rail trail. Beer is great and love the wood fired oven Calabrese pizza. Nice outdoor patio and good service.
All around great experience for a quick lunch visit. Servers were notably polite, helpful and friendly. Nachos and tacos were very good. Fun to take beer home after sampling a flight. Very pretty cans!
Came here for a quick dinner before an event at the Ancaster Memorial Arts Center. We told our waiter we were in a bit of a rush and he made sure everything came right away. The food tasted great! We tried the kale salad, which was super refreshing (and quite large!) and also the crispy brussels sprouts which were very good. The outdoor porch provides a nice and lively ambience. I will definitely go back and look forward to trying more of the menu!
My friend’s daughter recommended to us! This is an excellent choice. Beer Flight allows us tasting different beers. We like the West Coast Pale Ale, very floral and fruity! Pizza Margaritas has thin crust and Napoleon style! Vegan Buddha is the most appealing to us. The whole salad bowl is very refreshing with the salad sauce. The Creme Brulee has a subtle cinnamon which is inspiring and different from the normal vanilla favour. Excellent lunch for us!
Had our company Christmas party here and it was a great experience. Staff was top notch, super friendly, you can really tell they care about their customers. The food was amazing. Love the fact all beer is made in house. Andrew(owner) even made an appearance. Thanks to you and your team for a great night.
A beautiful location with great food and friendly staff. We had an event there and everyone thought the location was beautiful. Would highly recommend!!
Brisket tacos were amazing
Great cider and friendly staff.
Wasn t a pleasant experience for first time. Management apologized but was a little disappointed. Visiting from out west..Dropped by after Heritage Day..told we would have wait 15 min for a patio table as the kitchen was on a break we said we didn t want food, just a drink..told we could only sit at bar. Waited and watched other people seated outside. Finally approached staff and asked for management. Bartended then told us to sit outside at a table.. got there and other patrons sat down. $17 glass of wine?? Atmosphere had no style and clearly unprofessionally run. Two drinks over $30.. not recommending .
Our recent experiences have been really disappointing last time service was stunningly slow and the order was mixed up, this time the food was served cold and missing ingredients. Not sure we ll be back.
Hello, hungry and thirsty world. I have visited this establishment in the past with my family. Infant daughter and her grandparents. It was a Sunday, and if I remember correctly, there was a Sunday menu. (Dont quote me on that) it was a pleasant experience overall. Recently, I have become a regular on my drive home, where I stop in to find a quiet corner and finish up some work while enjoying a delicious brew. Yes, they are certainly delicious. I prefer the stronger IPA style beers, of which they have 2 house made options, IPA and West Coast IPA. They have porter, wheat, and standard ales. They carry pints and half pints as well as cocktails and spirits. The menu is small but everything is very delicious and well prepared. It is always very fast, and the servers have all been extremely kind and accommodating, especially as I have even requested to sit in a second room to have a business meeting on my computer. It wasnt busy, and they went out of their way to accommodate. I believe (but dont know) that you may see the owner serving from time to time, and in general, everyone is well kept and presets well. They speak kindly and serve quickly. The small menu changes on Tuesday for their taco Tuesday, which has 5 or 6 options I believe for fair prices. I have had the beef and the Brussels, and they were both wonderful, especially when washed down with a fresh cold beer. The atmosphere is quaint and small though there is an upstairs and a back room, not to mention a nice patio. The brewery is built in the modern standard glass building style on the ack of an old stone building, which is gorgeous. I dont like giving 5 stars but I feel I dont have any constructive criticism so it is only fair. I recommend this for dates, family, friend groups or as I do, on your own to simply enjoy a small bite a beer and a bit of work. Thanks Blackbird, Ill see you again soon.. P.s they are closed Mondays! cheers!! Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs and crayons. Staff is very friendly to kids . Ive seen babies and youth. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes no steps to enter or get to the patio. The top floor is old and is not accessible but that is perfectly reasonable
Very friendly service by two hardworking waitresses. Food was okay, the craft beers were excellent!
I want to say something to this place, the food was so good because I like chicken wings anyway employees was friendly and nice btw special thanks to the owner, keep up at great work
Nice and sociable place. Food & service were average overall.
The service and wine were great . I had the burger . It was awful .. soggy and tasteless . My husband had the vermicelli noodle bowl . It was utterly tasteless .. and he ate hardly any of it . I took it home and hope to covert it into something edible. Food
Very disappointing all around. We were a bit surprised by the very limited menu. We ordered what they said was butter chicken, the beef barbacoa tacos, and the crispy brussel sprouts. The butter chicken was just sauce that tasted like it was prefab out of a with barely any chicken in it, on top of a bit of rice and a couple of pieces of grilled naan triangles. The tacos were soggy and mediocre at best. No presentation whatsoever. I dont even know what to say about the brussel sprouts except for that they were a $16 sloppy too sweet mess. On top of the food being over priced and underwhelming, our cocktails tasted like watered down versions of what a Bloody Caesar and an Aperol Spritz should be. Really lacking in both preparation and presentation. It was pretty loud inside as well which wasnt great for conversation. We wont be back.
Food was good. However, ordered soda water and diet coke and were not told that they charged for refills. $3.50 each time. Would not go back because of this
Food was alright, brussel sprouts were burnt. But they are cooked that way so I still had to pay 50% for a dish that we didnt enjoy or finish. Otherwise decent restaurant.
We live near Niagara Falls, went for drive drive and ended up here, couldnt believe our luck. love this place, relaxing patio, waitress fabulous, food, we had pizza, amazing, the beer is fabulous, will definitely be returning
My team and I recently visited Black Bird Brewery and it was an outstanding experience! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a rustic charm that perfectly complements their craft beers. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend trying their Brussel sprouts- they are exceptional. If you re a fan of craft beer or just looking for a great spot to relax with friends, Black Bird Brewery is a must-visit. Well definitely be returning. Cheers to a wonderful brewery!
Delicious pizza, very kind staff. Keylime cheesecake wasn t anything to write home about. Outdoor atmosphere was beautiful and comfortable. Would definitely recommend to at least give a try!
Driver driving company vehicle He should be out of road He didn t know merging road vehicle have rights to go Bad driver
Charged $5 for a juice box for our 1yr old even tho we asked for water which they said they only had glass cups. The food was mediocre at best.
Great brewery. Some of the best pizza Ive had in my life.
Great place, great service, great food great beer.
I enjoyed the food. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Also, a great destination for a motorcycle ride. Food
The BEST Lager that i had in Canada, by far! It melts in your mouth, so tasteful! All the other breweries should learn how to do lagers with Blackbird!
Unable to accommodate my dietary restrictions (allergies)
Super rude staff. Don t value their customers. Mediocre food and beer. So many better breweries in Hamilton that know how to treat people and value the people that are giving them business.
Ordered pub grub . Nachos were not good greasy and soggy, also ordered fries that were undercooked borderline raw. Beer and Aporol spritz was really good! . Pizzas going to other tables looked great .
After our drinks were served our waitress was re-assigned to another part of the restaurant and no one was reassigned to our table. We waited over an hour for two out of three of our orders and then had to ask where our third order was. We waited another 30 minutes for the third order to be served. Sat on the patio on a hot day with a jug of warm water. No one thought to refill the water or provide some ice until we specifically asked. After we finished eating, we sat for 30 minutes without anyone checking on us, clearing plates, offering anything else, or bringing a bill. We had to get up from our table and go to the bar to actually get our bill. No compensation/adjustment to our bill was made for our troubles and complete lack of service. Overall, we were there for two and a half hours for three very simple orders (pizzas and a sandwich). We literally did not have any wait staff assigned to our table whatsoever. Management really needs to get their act together if they would like to stay in business.
There were four in our group and we had made reservations before going to the theatre. After arriving on time, we were told they had no record of our reservation, even though we showed them the confirmation email. After much discussion, we were seated upstairs alone in a room with zero atmosphere. The menu was very limited and overpriced. Fries were just warm and tacos were extremely disappointing with hardly any filling! I would definitely not recommend this location.
Wish you could give 1/2 stars, because Id like to give it a 3.5/5. Had been through Ancaster several times and didnt even really notice this was a brewery and a restaurant. Some more signage out front might help.... the large tanks and vats that can be seen through the back side window finally caught our eye one day. They have a really nice spot, in a historic house, which has been tastefully remodeled inside, and you can see where they kept what they could of the history of the building. They have good craft beer on hand. If I could rate the beer separate from the food Id give it 5 stars. The food however, again with a trend in Ancaster, seems to be bland and lacking. We will however come back and give it another try or at the very least, drink their great beer.
Great service, great beer.
Very rude people working there after hours during the day.
Good restaurant in a beautiful building. The quality of the beer is matched with the great service from the staff. Try the Brussels sprouts, theyre seasoned wonderfully and topped with aoli that works really well. Skip on the burger, though. Too many mild savory flavours together, the Brie drowns everything out. Nothing about it pops. Could use a sweet spicy sauce.
Great girls get together! Our server was very friendly and helpful with menu. Food was delicious! My margarita pizza was delicious! Food : 5/5
Great atmosphere and even better food
Absolutely stellar experience! I recently indulged in the pepperoni pizza at this establishment, and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The pizza was generously topped with New York Style pepperoni, creating a flavor explosion with each bite. The crust boasted a perfect crunch, adding an extra layer of satisfaction to every slice. But it wasnt just the pizza that impressed me; the service was outstanding as well. Despite a bustling atmosphere with multiple tables occupied, the bartender and wait staff were incredibly attentive. My beverage was promptly refilled without me even having to ask, ensuring that I could fully enjoy my meal without any interruptions. In summary, if youre craving a mouthwatering pizza experience coupled with top-notch service, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience. You wont be disappointed!
A delightfully classy pub, in a century home, with patrons of all ages. Their craft beers, made in house tasted great. The server was cheerful and helpful.
A wonderful place to meet friends and have a local brew. I will be back! N Service
Disappointing experience. The pub offered typical mediocre overpriced food. It was freezing cold, but they attempted to compensate with space heaters and blankets for diners. Service was a letdown - waiting over 30 minutes for a simple appetizer, and struggling to get a glass of water despite multiple requests and receiving the wrong order initially. The lack of attention from the staff was notable. I wouldnt recommend this place based on my underwhelming visit.
Food was delicious. Great service and a cool ambiance. They brew their own beer...the IPA was fantastic! It would be wise to make a reservation.
Service ok. Had to ask for napkins. No refill offered on drinks. Food was ok but not great. From a food perspective, I see what they re going for,but it s just not there. Maybe simplify! Potato skins sometimes should just be potato skins
Came here on a Thursday night, overall the food was average but a bit pricey for what you get ($21 for a personal pizza seems steep). The nachos were very good although the cheese was queso instead of shredded cheese and the portion wasn t very large like typical pub nachos. I ordered the Samgrita mocktail and it was quite good. Service here was unfortunately very bad. We were neglected for the majority of the night, often having to flag down who we think was our server (but may have also been the bartender?) to be able to order any additional food or drinks. We were never offered any water and hardly the opportunity to ask (ended up going home without it). Our bill was brought to us without asking and then the server had a hard time splitting the bill between our group (3 separate bills), a truly unique experience I hadn t encountered before. I would like to think they were unexpectedly severely understaffed for the night but nothing of that sort was even mentioned nor was our server apologetic. We only got the sense he was annoyed with our presence.
Food has gone downhill since opening. Had a bad pizza experience during the pandemic and during a more recent visit found quality to be mediocre at best. Very limited menu and try too hard to make simple things better. Service is not great. Hard to get the attention of the servers and they seem inexperienced. Very loud. Find the furniture and finishes in Brassie and Coach & Lantern to be more comfortable and sound absorbing. I cant imagine if they did live music here, it would be deafening.
Excellent service at Brewers Blackbird today. We enjoyed the porter, lager, Caesar, and Brussels sprouts. Well return for the hospitality, drinks, and apps.
Unreal food and service! Upstairs for a work party and it was perfect. Relaxing, warm atmosphere, nothing but good times.
The service was great. Great food and beer. Our group really enjoyed our visit
Dog friendly patio
Stopped in their very large and empty parking lot to take a video call and was basically asked to leave. Never had a business do that to me before. Nope. Won t be visiting when they are open. Lol
Great food! Never misses to impress.
The bat area could stand some noise deafening cloth/ rugs/ curtains...with all the wood its very noisy...
Very nice place. Nice ambiance and well presented menu
Visited this place for dinner. The beers are pretty good but nothing outstanding. The place itself is pretty cozy and the service was decent. The biggest disappointment was the food. I have ordered the burger with a salad and my wife - a salad with a salmon. This burger was by far the worst I have ever had! A tiny tasteless patty, cooked cold fridge smelling onions and basic ban. Even the fries were tasteless and cold! The salad was ok though. My wife got a tiny piece of dry salmon and a decent salad. We were a party of 8 and nobody enjoyed their food... Will not be back
Food and service were excellent! I had the burger, no bun (gluten free) and red salad! Delicious ! Lots of gluten free choices and some vegan and gluten free! Will be back! Dietary restrictions: Excellent choices!
Dropped in with some friends last week. I had the steak and frites, the steak was seriously lacking flavor. My wife had the lamb and our friend the salad. Our friends order came out wrong, but the were quick to replace it. They were full, but not packed, so i am deducting a star for the wait staff as well. The person we had was not attentive at all but when they did appear was polite. The insides of the place was really cozy and nicly done. We mak go back one day, and try something different. Vegetarian options: Looked llke a few options available Parking: Lots of parking out back of the restaurant
Excellent selection of beer
Came for taco Tuesday. Tacos were okay. Chicken one was dry and the pic is the grease spot my pulled pork taco was sitting in servers weren t very helpful with that situation but they were still very nice and kind. I will say I have been here on a Friday for dinner and the food was DELISH. So I think they are testing the tacos out and potentially they could improve but their other food and their beer is all really good.
Last minute decision turned into an incredible experience. I can honestly say the two beers I tried there were by far the best I ve had since visiting England. My first pick was the bitter. It was amazing. I ended up taking some home. The porter was also fantastic! Well done to the brewery, you have mastered the perfect taste! Another bonus was the food! We ordered nachos, calamari and pizza. Not one disappointment. The nachos were so yummy we ordered a second one. Congratulations on a successful establishment!! We will be back!
The place is a real gem in Ancaster. Excellent beers on tap, gorgeous building, and extremely pleasant and helpful staff. All 4 beers of the flight were staff selected and great choices. Ill be back to explore the menu starting with the pizza, as they make their own crust. This time I tried two taco Tuesday specials (pork and brussel sprout). Both were extremely tasty, and the house made habanero hot sauce is a great move. The $3 to $5 range is nice value too, as you can mix and match. Makes a tasty snack with the delicious beer. The Will It Taco weekly special is a great idea. Thanks guys!
Bland food, polite but poor service. Beverage menu online only. Economical decor in beautiful historic building.
As a current certified beer judge for various events and former master brewer for a local brewery, I am let down by this establishments beer offerings. Out of six tested, only one came nearly close to style. Most were light, hop deficient, watery light attempt at styles. Only the west coast pale ale came moderately close. I am sad it was a let down. Food was also so so. If the head brewer wants to talk. Happy to share some knowledge to help improve. Not recommended or going back. Sorry guys.
Great burgers and fries here. The beer is great too. The fries might be perfect. Nice lunchtime patio setting.
Love their lager
Went for a date night with the kids at the grandparents. Perfect night. Love the atmosphere, great service and the tacos were just right. (It was taco Tuesday). Very reasonable prices too.
Great music, friendly staff, and the food was delicious. I stopped by and it happened to be taco Tuesday. Cant wait to go back and try out more food.
We came to the restaurant on St. Patricks day with a last minute reservation. The service was amazing even though it was busy. The waiter was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious!!!
Nice mix of classy restaurant and casual craft beer pub, in an old stone building that gives some character. Not the biggest selection of food but what they do have is good. Known especially for their pizzas. The truffle fries were a revelation! It s a great place both for a corporate lunch and for dinner and drinks. Nice amount of parking in the back. Great patio in the summer. Quickly became our go-to when we moved here!
Always a good time. Our go to place.
Stopped in for a flight tasting. Will be back again to try the food. One of the best flights I have tried. Parking: Lots of parking available.
Taco Tuesday is a great day to visit Brewers Blackbird.
The atmosphere was good and the staff were excellent. I found the lager to be average at best though.
After making a reservation for 2 @ 6.30 pm March28, and reading on line about a limited menu I called the resto and I was assured there were lots of options, not true, no salads etc. Tacos were awful, soggy the filling scarce suggest you try Milestones!! very disappointed !!
Nice place, decent beer, good food.
Wow! What a little gem. Honestly, we didn t have beer but the cocktails were so good! Not too sweet The food was unreal as well and it was priced really well. Why go to a chain restaurant to spend $50 when you can go somewhere like here with better food, better drinks and better atmosphere.
Came for Good Friday fish and chips to be told they were sold out at 630pm. Disappointing. Ordered burger and upgrade to RH fries. Fries came with no garlic aoili or fresh herbs as indicated on menu. I have had better food here a few years ago.
Excellent service, food and beer! Great atmosphere too. Brussel sprout app is so original and delicious!
Great location, a bit pricey, great service. The grilled chicken sandwich couldve been a bit better seasoned but overall I recommend this establishment. Could have more food choices. Not much to select from. Food
Ken was very rude. Was parking in the lot because the neighbouring parking lot was full and the brewery wasn t opening for another 2 hours. I was told I can park there but that he would be calling a tow and it ll get towed. I have a baby with me and I found this to be appalling behaviour. Hopefully we can raise this generation to be kinder and more helpful. Ken proceeded to tell me to park on the road and when I said I have a little one with me, he replied not my problem. So horrible that people act like this.
Ok, so started off well. Nice atmosphere, sat outside on patio. Asked about gluten-free options as I get sick with gluten. We ordered the brussel sprouts as a starter while mulling over options. Brussel sprouts came, covered in breaded crispy onions. UGH! When it came time to order, we said no because of the inattention to the gluten and said I get sick. The gentleman said sorry, charged for the food and sent us on our way. Even as careful as I was, I still got sick after we left. Dietary restrictions: Not gluten-friendly, no awareness whatsoever.
Great setting and location. Quite a busy place on a saturday night. Reserve in advance. Small menu but great drink selection.
Best burger weve ever had. The beers arent cartoonishly over the top like a lot of new craft brewers over the last 10 years do them, theyre more in line with the microbreweries of the 1990s-2000s, making tasty but still drinkable beer. The english bitter is excellent in particular.
We enjoyed a family dinner here as my sister lives around the corner in Ancaster. Started with a virgin Caesar as unfortunately they dont have non alcoholic beers. Hey BBKB look at getting Heineken 0.0, its really tasty! The fried brussel sprouts and sweet potato pizza were delish and we rounded out with the churros! How can you go wrong with deep fried doughnut sticks! This is a great spot with attentive staff and a warm ambiance. My only recommendation is to lower the music and lights
I was only there for an art exhibit they served snacks which were really nice . Its a beautiful space an old house in Ancaster renovated. I really enjoyed the nice bar and friendly staff . Its a beer company with the beer made on the premises .Im going back and trying their meals if they are as good as their snacks, then I will be delighted. But check out their art exhibits. Great night out .
Their patio is pretty nice! Allowing dogs! The servers are very nice. Not too many options for food but they do taste good!
Taco Tuesday was a good to try out finger food
Had an amazing time with a group of friends here the other day. We sat upstairs and I had no idea that existed but it was a lovely room. Food was great other than a million onions in the Buddha bowl, which was delicious otherwise. Well be back soon!
Atmosphere was nice but food and service were just adequate. We were a party of four and came in for early dinner(around 4) on Sunday. We ordered some side salads, burgers and fish. Service was very slow, almost 55 minute wait for food to come out. The food was just ok, presentation and taste was a solid 3 star. Burgers were juicy but not very flavourful, the fries were very salty and the fish was overly greasy.
The fried chicken sandwich is a home run. All of the options I ve tried here have been outstanding.
Excellent craft beer experience, friendly staff, and great pizza. Has a laid back atmosphere, hughly recommend
Excellent brewpub with a great menu of various food selections - both great for individuals and sharing. About six beers on tap - allowing for choice and a focus on quality. Sizeable room options and a spacious patio make it the perfect spot for any occasion. Worth the visit during my visit to Ancaster.
Pizza was awesome!
Enjoyed the food, service, and outdoor patio
Great food and selection of beers. Service has always been great.
Tried a new item on the menu the brisket sandwich. Was alright wished the bun had been toasted was a bit doughy for my taste
Best pizza I have ever had. Pure flavor, perfectly crisp, wood fired oven....all paired with a their own craft beer....wow!! You have not eaten pizza until you have tried this place.
Brewers Blackbird has great food. I m not going to take anything away from them on that. Their atmosphere is good inside, a little on the formal side of casual. In the summer they have a nice patio, but it is close to the road and personally I don t love that. The thing that gets me is their pricing, it is not a cheap place to visit for lunch. I m all for paying up for great food and atmosphere, but sometimes one of those pieces can let you down, but the prices will always be high.
Change of menu makes me sad Im going to miss the jackfruit wrap.
Shared a beautiful afternoon with family for my daughters engagement party.
Had a wonderful engagement party upstairs. The company, service and food was awesome! Great place to have a intimate function or party!
Great beer and good eats and a killer atmosphere!
We went for dinner with friends. Although the servers were very friendly, we found the service to be slow. The food was OK but nothing special. The beers on tap, however, were quite good.
Expected much, got not much. Middling food + inattentive service = no return visit.
Very nice patio. Service was excellent.
Good food and great service. Went for a group gathering and had a the upstairs was perfect for 50 people.
Taco Tuesday was terrible. Drinks were alright but service was slow and got orders wrong. This place has really gone downhill lately. Avoid.
Beer was awesome food wasnt for me
Just popped in to grab some cans to take home. Friendly service and my dog loved the chefs dog cookie, thank you.
Hosted a 20+ person event here last week. Overall we were very happy with the execution. The service was friendly and the food was enjoyable! They also accommodated several special requests that we had. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars was that the room we were given was a little dirty: some tables not wiped well, tons of food / crumbs on the seats, and a bunch of flies / wasps flying around. I will still be back to try out there beers!
We had reservations and there were two other groups there waiting. She said they had to wait for the tables to clear. For some reason they took both those groups in before us. The food was really good and the menu was eclectic. There was a lot of young children and babies which I found odd for a brewery setting. They sat us in the back room which was quiet. The service was passable at best. We weren t greeted very quickly and not offered water or anything while we sat and waited to be served. The drinks were brought and we ordered our food. Other servers delivered the food. Our server never came back to check on our meals until after we were already done. We were two couples and wanted to pay separately but he didn t ask so we had to ask him to go and do two bills. It s really the norm to ask about how we would want to pay.
Expensive ,but understand .
The best bitter was outstanding. Perfectly complemented the flank steak on the menu. Bought a several cans to take home. Nice beer for the summer.
Tasty pizzas. Service was quite slow when we went. Took 15 minutes to get water, and then 40 minutes for our pizzas to arrive. Beautiful building and nice outdoor patio.
A perfectly fitting brewery for Ancaster with a fantastic patio. Wide selection of great beers and an equally excellent menu with great food. Atmosphere is very bright and lively, definitely will be returning
Best place out there
Service great (party of 6) English bitter very good Various salads & entrees good Mussels not edible, returned it, not charged BUT no discount or extra for the dissapointment Parking: Nope
Had a great time on the weekend. Kevin was extremely accommodating for our large party, very kind and had us all laughing throughout our meal! Food was fine but the service and hospitality made it the best.
Amazing server. Food was good. Drink was delicious. We ate on the patio which was very nice.
Only serves tacos on tuesdays. Kitchen closes by 8:30.
Amazing selection of beers to try and tasty food. We had the tacos and rhfries with an ancaster Philly cheesesteak sandwich- the food was delicious and service was great!
Went there yesterday before a show. Waited 45 minutes for food. Asked the waitress about it, she said that its just going into the oven. Questioned her why the people beside us got their food 5 minutes after they came, she said its because its raining and busy. Not sure how that had anything to do with the fact that they were eating and we werent. First time there for a girls night, wont be back again.
Unfortunately I cannot leave a review for the food. We arrived to the restaurant an hour an half before the performance we were to see at the theater beside the restaurant. Sadly we ordered our food and it never arrived. We questioned the waitress and were told it was busy(it really wasnt) and because of the rain. I dont understand how the rain affects the kitchen it. It was very disappointing as the food going to the other tables looked delicious. I definitely will not be returning.
We held a Wedding Rehearsal Party here. The owner offered a nice range of food options which were fantastic. We loved the room at the end. The service was great! It was the perfect spot for our venue Parking: overall great
Food, service and staff are usually awesome. Unfortunately, this afternoon was different. We had a waitress with dark hair in a pony tail and a green tshirt (aug 18 approx 3-4:30pm). We came for happy hour wine and nachos. The white wine came without an ice bucket and was never brought when requested. When the waitress asked if we were finished up, we responded yes and we were just finishing our wine (our glasses were still full). The waitress came and put the bill down and stood there waiting for us to pay with the machine while our drinks were full and we were still mid conversation. We expected to stick around another 20 minutes. It felt as if we were being rushed out and we were uncomfortable. We explained to her what happened and why it upset us. She didn t respond and walked away. Not great service from her and it felt disrespectful. Usually there is great service here and we feel welcome and comfortable, this was surprising and disappointing.
Great pizza, beer and atmosphere
Food was excellent (as always) but service was slow and not super attentive, and it was VERY loud inside. Very hard to have a conversation with my friend sitting 2 feet in front of me.
Very enjoyable place. Tasty craft brews and a dog friendly patio.
The Pilsner I had was good but a bit too high IBU for my preference in a Pilsner. American wheat was more my speed and had great nose on it. The food was bland and not memorable at all. Plating was good but the product was over priced and under seasoned. The fish we ordered was not a crisp batter and also over cooked. Starters - veg tempura & pork tacos Main - fish and chips
We recently hosted a 45th anniversary celebration in the Assize Room upstairs. We chose the family style package #1 meal for our 40 guests. We were pleasantly surprised as the food was delicious, the servers were delightful and very accommodating which made the event a true success. We would highly recommend the Blackbird Brewery for your next function.
We received no service after being seated. We had two young children with us so after waiting 20 minutes we left. Disappointed that the service was this bad.
I was there for a party, good was very good. Location is lovely.
Did not have what I asked for sold out Went with the burger very greasy not nice the wife pizza was good Not good value Food : 1/5
Im torn on the service. Our original server pretty much disappeared. No idea what happened. She was still there, but not at our table. We seemed to just have another server take over who was quite fantastic (Rachel I believe). Wood fired pizza was good, chicken sandwich was decent. The beer was fine. I believe it was just the lager so nothing fancy but wouldnt go out of my way to buy that particular type. Maybe will try something different but maybe not.
Sat outside as the weather was perfect. The service was get welcoming. Recommend the fried chicken sandwich and a Lager.
Great atmosphere.The food was amazing
My husband and I love this place! The wait staff are friendly and take their time to make sure you are happy. Food is great and beer is great!
We arrived at a time when it was somewhat busy. We were told it was a ten minute wait to give the staff a break. It took almost 30 minutes to get seated, we ordered immediately and waited another 30 minutes for half of the order and 40 for the other half. You d think with so much time to prepare something that takes but a few minutes they d make something that tastes good. Well you d be wrong. The tacos were borderline inedible. Its something you eat because you re so hungry, not because it tastes good. If I was trapped in the wilderness looking for food, I d rather take my chances on some risky fruit. It s a compliment to the chef to make something so bland. It takes real skill to take something so easy and screw it up so bad. Old Ancaster is nice, having a drunk group of people obnoxiously screaming throughout your meal is not. That s not the restaurants fault but something to mention. In addition to the ridiculous wait and poor food you get to be annoyed the entire time. I will never be coming back and I d highly recommend you decide somewhere else. McDonalds is far better and as a bonus you could probably walk to the meadowlands, order, eat and come back before you d get your food. Kid-friendliness: Don t subject your children to this place
Great spot! Lovely patio. Nachos were delicious. Love the beers
Nice atmosphere. Great service with friendly staff. The peach pizza was amazing.
Went for an event. The food was amazing! And love the look of the place
Very little food served for a large price. Very simple ingredients in the salad that I could have easily made at home for much cheaper. Not that busy, yet we waited for quite a while for our food and drink. Water wasnt served right away when we were seated. It was until we finished eating our main course that we received water. The peach pizza could have had more peaches on it. I hardly tasted the peaches when it was on top.
Great food, even better atmosphere and service.
Great spot. The pizzas are amazing, the drinks are great. Nice cozy feel inside with great service. Parking: Parking behind building
We did not order food because we ate earlier but came in for drinks!! Loved the atmosphere. They have so many seatings available plus a nice patio. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a Mex lager.
Great setting and amazing food.
Good beers, try the bitters.
The food is great and so is the beer
Excellent service and food! Enjoyed the patio!
Very friendly staff, good food and tge was pretty good too. You wont be disappointed. We even saw Dave Hodge having lunch at the same time....sweet. GO
Great food and in house beer, great place to visit if you are in the area Parking: Lots of on site parking
Great venue. Craft beer (specifically the English Bitter) amazing. The flank-steak frites was really good BUT I found the fries were dry / overcooked. Small complaint amongst two very nice visits here.
We love this restaurant. Great meals, the owners are nice and the prices are reasonable.
The food is amazing....Soooo good!
First time eating here-so glad to have dropped in! Amazing service! Incredible food! And the beer-may take a couple cans to go!!
Parking: Great food, atmosphere
Amazing food and service will be back!
Food was delcious and quick. Service was super friendly and attentive.
Enjoyed a fabulous Buddha Bowl in the lovely renovated former Rousseau House with the new brewery visible on site. Great menu options, prompt & pleasant service & relaxed vibes:) I will definitely be returning to try something else from their delectable menu.
Always stop here when I visit southern Ontario, really good food that has originality. Also very nice atmosphere. Love the beers here too. Great place to dine out at
The service was top notch. The food was some if the best Ive had. The lamb ribs were possibly one of the best ribs Ive had anywhere. Food : 5/5
Great place, atmosphere, staff, food. What more is there to say.
Was at a celebration of life in Assize room last night. Food served was excellent and great staff. Could not figure out where washrooms were. No sign directing or on the two doors. Saw a lot of people go into the area...look at the blank doors and walk away and had to find staff to ask. I have never been to any restaurant where no sign..whether male...female or all gender was not indicated.
lovely establishment atmosphere, service, food & drinks have always been stellar!
