Butties of Scotland is our first Canadian family restaurant, originating in Dundee Scotland in 1996. We wanted to bring our traditional Scottish good eats and UK treats to Canadian soil. Come see us for a Scottish fry up or many other tasty options. 🏴
Craving some haggis or blood pudding for breakfast? Fancy some scottish bread with some butter? The only place that I have found to have a real scottish breakfast! Butties of Scotland! Located in the Ancaster area of Hamilton a Scottish grocery and diner rolled into one! Friendly staff and quite a number of tables. Service was good but a little slow because of the number of guests looking to eat. Good sized portions of food. Traditional Scottish fare along with North American staples. The haggis is quite good!! 4 stars!
Great place for breakfast & lunch! Food was awesome and the staff were very friendly, highly recommend! The breakfast sandwich’s were loaded with meat and cooked fresh to order 👍
We recently visited Butties for brunch. The staff were incredibly welcoming, especially considering our four kids. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with an open kitchen. Orders were taken promptly, and food was absolutely delicious.
Best English breakfast I've ever had (although I don't consider myself an expert)! Casual, friendly restaurant with lots of variety of pies, sausage rolls, and some British snacks and treats to purchase.
A little bit of Scotland hits the spot. Lee and staff made us feel welcomed and at home sharing the memories of their Scottish homeland. Tatie scones were yummy, hollandaise was perfection. Tasted haggis for the first time and was pleasantly pleased. Thank you for a great start to our road trip with our belles full.
Found Butties by fluke while driving through on a road trip. Would recommend this place. Lee is passionate and the spirit of Scotland comes through in his service and food. Best hollandaise sauce I’ve had and this first time haggis eater is pleasantly surprised how good it is. It was worth the drive. Eat haggis and ceilidh 🏴😊🏴
Scottish Breakfast in Ancaster I recently had the pleasure of visiting a new breakfast restaurant that claims to offer authentic Scottish cuisine. From the outside, the place appeared quite small, but to my surprise, it had ample seating space inside. As someone who has been to Scotland and lived in the UK for a considerable time, I found the experience to be fairly close to the real deal. The portions served at the restaurant were satisfying, and irrespective of whether the dishes were Scottish or not, the food was good. My 8-year-old child particularly enjoyed the pancakes from the kids' menu which is rare :-). It's worth noting that they offer haggis and black pudding, which are traditional Scottish delicacies. While the haggis was decent, I personally didn't appreciate the texture of the black pudding. However, if you're fond of it or curious to try, I would recommend giving it a shot. Be sure you know the ingredients. On a busy Saturday morning, the service was impressively quick, and the staff served the food with a friendly smile. The restaurant had limited parking, and the washroom facilities were clean and well-maintained. Now, let's address the question of whether I would return to this establishment. Considering the price point, which amounted to $68 for two adults and a child, including a 15% tip, I must say it's high but on par with other places in the area. Therefore, I wouldn't single them out for that reason. However, if you're looking for a great breakfast experience, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. It's also worth mentioning that they offer a lunch menu, so be sure to check it out online. In conclusion, if you're in search of an authentic Scottish breakfast experience, this restaurant is worth a try. While the prices may be high, but are comparable to other establishments, the quality of the food, quick service, and overall ambiance make it a delightful choice.
Great place with an authentic Scottish breakfast on the menu. Staff were extremely nice and welcoming and made sure are coffees were topped up and everything was ok. The place was very bright and clean. Nice little selection of meat pies and sausage rolls as well as homemade baked goods and Scottish tablet for take-out.
Nice clean eatery. Lovely greetings and service. Great food and portions
Friendly staff and excellent food.
You get LOTS of food for the price. Also the best grilled cheese Ive ever had! So decadent!
Breakfast was delicious, definitely going back
Great food, good vibes
Stopped by on a whim. Enjoyed my meal. Will be back!!
My husband and I enjoyed a great breakfast today. Food was fresh and delicious. The staff was 10/10.
I ve ordered from here twice and loved every bite of it both times. Was delighted to receive my order this morning to find an extra pie, an extra sausage roll, and a nice note written on the box. Will 100% be ordering from here again.
Fantastic place to. Get food. Staff Are. So helpful. You will never go hungry eating here.
Absolutely fantastic place for breakfast or lunch. Service and food were exquisite. Generous portions, super fresh and delicious. Buy your favourite cookies, candies and assorted goodies from their small grocery section. Hot meat pies to go, frozen foods and homemade desserts. Nicole, Rachel and Dave hats off to you!!!!!
Service and the food was really good! No complaints. Will definitely go back.
Very aggressive staff, poor costumer service.
Excellent breakfast, excellent service, high quality food. The place is spotless. Nothing to complain about. Will be back!
We had the BEST experience. The restaurant and restroom were very clean. The breakfasts we had tasted so delicious. We had eggs, pancakes and rye toast. The food was made fresh and came out very quickly. We had a nice visit with one of the owners. She was so friendly and personable. We highly recommend this restaurant. It is worth it!!!
Really loved the food. Highly recommended.
A gem!!
Great value deal!
Awesome as always!
Best Breakfast in Ancaster. Especially the back bacon sandwich!!!
Ate their Canadian Benny - homemade hollandaise was so good! It got a bit busy after we arrived so Im glad we arrived when we did.
Sep 24 update - takeout back bacon on a bun - fresh roll delicious stack of peameal, 200% better value for $ than any fast food sandwich for lunch. Breakfast was delicious. Service was excellent, top notch friendly servers. Atmosphere is clean and fresh. Will return. Parking: 20 + spots
First time here with my bf, we enjoyed it a lot! Got the canadian breakfast and the 2 egger, they give you a lot to eat. Also tried their baked goods, fresh and sweet!
First time there. The staff was great and friendly. Answered all of our questions. Looking forward to going again.
Lovely to have a wee bit of Scotland in Ancaster. Hugely generous breakfasts. The couple running the place are truly putting their heart into this ... a community restaurant that will make you feel welcome no matter where youre from. Lots of UK groceries, including meats, pies, and baked goods, if you want to take a few treats home with you. Its in a bit of an odd location for a specialty restaurant, but that makes finding it all the more magical. Provide gluten-free toast and hash browns. Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free toast and hash browns.
I got the big breakfast ( it was gargantuan!) so despite being superlative!l had to take most of it home in a doggy bag. Great haggis and blood pudding and superb hollandaise sauce. Decent prices, huge portions and superb bang for your buck!
Cant say enough good things about this place! One of my favourite places to eat and places to get the proper Scottish goods to bring home!
Rare to find Scottish fare. Enjoyed it!
Love this place! A little taste of Home! Thanks to Lee for a delicious breakfast!
Best breakfast in Hamilton and the best eggs Benny you can find this side of France.
Best ever
My favourite place to go for a great breakfast/lunch. Awesome staff and hardworking owners.
I get the full Scottish breakie minus the blackpudding cause, well, its blackpudding lol. Comes with 2 eggs, haggis, baked beans, sausage, ham, potato scone, mushrooms, tomato, and toast. Plenty to fill me up, and the haggis was yummy. Made with beef, which isnt the norm in Scotland, but gets my seal of approval. The staff are lovely, seating is comfy and spaced enough for semi private conversation. Deserving of the five stars.
Great food, amazing price and the servers were fantastic
Amazing food and service. Such a unique experience. Would highly recommend.
Delicious breakfast!! Great portions and menu options. Our kids cleared their plates. Best breakfast I ve had in Ancaster!
We really enjoyed our Scottish breakfast taste just like home for my wife. Great and friendly staff and servers will definitely be back
Wonderful breakfast, great prices on a very clean restaurant. Will definitely be back
Being here twice now, first time I had the Canadian breakfast, it was way too much. Second time I got a smaller breakfast. Both meals were delicious
This place has the best eggs Benedict I have ever had!!We always make sure to go any time we are in Ancaster!!
Very cool slice of Scotland right here at home! Food was yummy, and the imported snacks and shop items were a nice bonus! IRN BRU!!! Cant wait to go back and try something new.
Amazing food and great services. Will definitely go back.
Macaroni pies in Ancaster. Who d have thought it. Perfect reminder of being back in Fife, Scotland Vegetarian options: Menu focuses more on meat eaters, but I certainly wouldn t go hungry as a vegetarian. Maybe veggie sausage and haggis for starters would have been appreciated
I make a trip to Butties at least once a month since opening; I can t get enough of the place! High chairs, large tables, a changing table in the bathroom ;) and a kid s menu all make it an easy and enjoyable experience to bring my toddler along, and he loves it! Staff are super friendly, service is always really quick even during busy times, and the food is fantastic and great value! Authentic, traditional Scottish breakfast that heals the homesick soul. Highly recommend to anyone! <3 Kid-friendliness: High chairs, large tables, a changing table in the bathroom, and a kid s menu all make it an easy and enjoyable experience to bring my toddler along, and he loves it!
Great service. The food is excellent. Very clean. And reasonable prices. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessibility. Food : 5/5 |
Haggis eggs & potato scones! Yum As well, freezers of take home items ( meat pies, black pudding, haggis, scones) & shelves full of Scottish treats, relishes and cooking/ baking ingredients.
Wonderful staff and great food. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free options available. Food : 5/5 |
Something to be said about happy staff and great food. Thanks for a great feed. Worth the 2hr drive.
10/10 service 10/10 food Now I understand the 4.8 stars. After you are done you have a pantry you can purchase cute snacks from & also desserts. They made my Father s Day extra special. Thank you!
Great Scottish food.
This is a lovely cafe, very spacious and spotless clean. The food was gorgeous, and huge portions. The service from the staff was very good!
Super clean restaurant! My husband is from Glasgow and we came here last week for his early birthday breakfast. He said it felt like home and he loved all the extra goodies here! I think it was their son but he figured out that my husband was Scottish and gave him a free Irn Bru to go : ) a very nice gesture. It will be our new spot when my husband wants a taste of home for breakfast! Dietary restrictions: Great for dairy free folks : )
Very rude staff
Rude staff and customer service
Friendly banter and food to stick you to the ground, which is to say delicious food in a great atmosphere! I can never resist buying a few extra treats for at home on my way out.
Fantastic food, canned beat it!
This is a really pleasant new find (opened May 2023). Classic tasty breakfasts, and lovely service. Tea is served already brewing (they know how to serve tea properly!) and jam is freely available... its the little extras that make the difference. Nice little shop at the back, too. Looking forward to coming back soon!
Very nice little breakfast place out of the main busy area tucked nicely in a neighborhood plaza. Great portions, very friendly service, delicious breakfast (square sausage and hash browns were really good)!
An authentic Scots dining experience in Ancaster. A relative told me about it and was surprised. Located near Fiddlers north of 403. Haggis, black pudding and many other things. Very Scottish. Very unique.
Awesome food and service
Decorated with everything Id find in my grandmas basement. Perfect fries.
Had a lovely breakfast here. Will be back.
Amazing. Food was spot on, lots of sweets I havent seen in years. The owner was very nice and was from the same city in Scotland I came from and even went to secondary school with my sister. Highly recommend this place for a true scottish breakfast.
It s like being back home The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly!
I read about Butties of Scotland in the paper. I took my Grandchildren today and it was everything the reviewer said in the paper and more. We were greeted by the young server who said the wait was 10 mins. and it was. We looked around the shop while waiting. The smell of the food was something else. I had the Butties Scottish Breakfast. Everything was piping hot and so very delicious. My Grandson had the Cdn, breakfast with a side of pancakes - everything was delicious. My Granddaughter had breakfast off the kids menu with tea. She said the same -everything was delicious. Thank you to the Chefs! The restaurant is beautiful and clean. It is open concept. I haven t had a breakfast like this since my Dad died in 1995. What a lovely memory of him making a breakfast so scrumptious. I most certainly will be back. You know what they say - good food, good coffee and good conversation. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU PAY THIS RESTAURANT A VISIT! Kid-friendliness: I had my two Grandchildren with me, ages 13 and 9. They were the only children in the restaurant. They were very comfortable and we had a good conversation. We were not rushed
Im from Scotland and this place is definitely a close approximation of the greasy spoon cafes you find in every Scottish town. The food is good and the prices are pretty fair. They have a nice selection of British imports for sale too.
Very clean and friendly place. Food took a turn for the worst. Drove 40 minutes to have a black pudding and haggis breakfast. Everything was frozen and freezer burnt tasted pretty bad. Would ve been nice to see traditional scones on the menu. I won t be returning.
First time going.. friendly staff and great food we will definitely be going back :)
Ordered online and omg I just have to say this place us amazing exactly what hamilton needs . Just like my dad and grandma used to make thank you !!! 100 stars. Tattie scones are life <3 Vegetarian options: Mushrooms with tomatoes and tattie scones yum Kid-friendliness: Good kid menu
First time there. Food is excellent and its got the added bonus of a shop too. It was extremely busy. I found one staff member rude but everyone else were friendly.
Delicious breakfast and pies every time I order. I was already sold on the food, but as a bonus, I was even given an extra little treat Thank you!
First time here, will most definitely be back! The food was excellent! I had the Haggis Eggs Benedict, and it was stupendous, absolutely delicious! I also want to give extra credit and thanks to the staff. They were polite and friendly, and very accommodating. Highly recommend, and cant wait to return!
Butties of Scotland are a food jewel with delicious Scottish flavours. A warm and friendly atmosphere makes the restaurant ideal for a relaxing supper. The menu features classic Scottish meals made with care. Every taste of haggis or Scotch pie is tasty. Friendly service makes dining more personal. Butties of Scotland is a must-visit for authentic Scottish food in a friendly setting.

Very nice to be able to get a proper full breakfast. Great service, excellent food. I got a few pies take away also. Mince and bean were great. Best of luck! Food
Lovely place to eat
Great independent ! Fantastic food quality and staff are very attentive.
So after being featured in the Spectator by the Food Critic, which is guaranteed to get you some more business, you decide to shut-down for two weeks?! My party of three arrived there today at 11am to find it closed, with a note on the door that they are closed from Jan 1 to 15th for wee break. There was no notification on your phone voicemail and no notification on your website. Not a good look, not a good first impression.....
Great family restaurant, with good food and service.
The food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive. I left with a few goodies too Ill be back.
Really enjoyed the Scottish breakfast. It was a lot of food. It brought back wonderful memories of our travels in Scotland. Had a wonderful conversation with the owners. Super friendly. The do have a section that will have imported goods but is still to come. Cant wait to take the in-laws.
The food is fresh with all the flavours and comfort of home. A family run restaurant that truly cares about your experience. Amazing food and service. Perfect spot for breakfast and lunch. This place made me want to paint my face blue and lead the Scots in their fight for independence against King Edward I.
Great full scottish breakfast, my husband and I have scottish families and have missed the haggis! Steak and mushroom pies were great too. Will be back!
Awesome food and great service!
Ordered Mince on a bun, no Mince. Then tried Cheese and Macaroni no Macaroni. Next choice Loaded Potato with Coleslaw, had to make Coleslaw. Too many large lumps. Not impressed. Food : 2/5 |

Food and service was outstanding oh how I love black pudding - cooked to perfection.
Wonderful new breakfast and lunch place. I had curry chicken pie with excellent fries. My wife had cheese and pickle sandwich. Really nice experience, friendly. We re definitely regulars now.
Came here today for lunch with my mother and grandmother, and we all loved it. Great menu, delicious food, nice atmosphere. The staff was friendly and the owner extremely generous. We cant wait to come back soon.
First visit to this new restaurant and we were very satisfied. We split one of their big breakfast plates between the two of us and we each ordered a meat pie too. The square sausage, haggis and tatty scone were all perfect. The grilled tomato and beans were excellent. I really enjoyed this late breakfast. My wife s scotch pie was tasty and my curry chicken pie was even better. No filler in it, it was all meat inside. The service was excellent. Very attentive without being overbearing. All our interactions with staff members were very nice. They have great homemade Scottish tablet (an extremely sweet fudge) available for sale and you can also purchase most of the meats frozen to cook at home yourself. Sadly, I didn t get to try any of their jacket potatoes or their chips with curry sauce this visit, but that just means I ll have to come back again soon. I ll need to remember to take photos then too. Totally forgot this time.
Fantastic place to satisfy your quest for some good old fashioned home cooked Scottish food.
Superb, authentic Scottish breakfast and treats. We tried the pineapple tart, raspberry tart, strawberry tart, and Bakewell. Fantastic, friendly service!

If you cant get to Scotland Butties is the next best thing. The food was amazing , service was too , home made scottish sweets, pies and sausage rolls were to die for. I had the big Scottish breakfast and it was surpurb. The Haggis was the best part! We will definatly be back!
Run dont walk, to this amazing new restaurant. I had the scotch bun with square sausage, eggs on the side, and 2 potato scones and everything was so well done. Perfectly soft, warm, tasty, cant wait to go back. Lunch items look great and lots of stuff to go.
Stopped by for lunch last week. This place is an absolute gem. The food feels like back haim and the staff are all lovely. The bacon butty on a morning roll was delicious. Also got some scotch and mince pies to go which were also fantastic.

A wonderful experience with great service.
Welcoming atmosphere, terrific service, the breakfast was lovely a little slice of Scotland. I should mention they have a good selection of sweets and biscuits as well! We ll be coming back very soon.
Had the square (lorne) sausage on a roll. Brilliantly executed and succulent sausage, and the roll was lovely and floury. It was worth the drive in from Burlington!
Authentic Scottish food, proper bangers, tattie scones and black pudding. Nice clean restaurant, friendly service. Chef prepared eggs and bacon in a separate pan for my wife to avoid gluten cross-contact. Ta.
I ve been to one of the locations in Dundee Scotland and the food was awesome. I was ecstatic to see they have a location here in Ontario. They have an authentic Scottish breakfast that is authentic right now to the haggis. Service was incredible, coffee always hot. Portions were big enough to fuel a walk in the highlands, even if it s just in my imagination. My new favourite breakfast place in Ontario!
I have been waiting and searching for a spot to do a full English breakfast style meal for a while! I am super impressed with how tasty everything was, the portions were great and even though I did take out, my food was still hot and delicious! We will definitely be returning! Well done to the chef and team !
Great place for all day breakfast and lunch! We had a fried egg with cheese on a fresh bun and a grilled cheese with baked beans; everything was delicious! The staff and service were excellent. We purchased a few of our favourite treats as well. Check this place out; you won t be disappointed. Highly recommended
Came in to try it out as Id been eyeing the place for a few days, definitely wasnt disappointed. Great servings, great taste and great atmosphere. The jerseys hung up on the wall give it such a unique touch especially if you love football. The girl who served me was really nice and made sure the food was good. I tried the chip buttie and was blown away by it, if youre a chip lover youll know this is a dream come true. They also sell imported candy and everyone there is so nice it makes you happy! Will definitely come back and for sure recommend.
The food was wonderful, and the service very friendly!
The best Scottish breakfast. Very filling. They have lots of imported goodies to buy.
Best steak and mushroom pie I ve ever had. Friendly staff, family run business. Bakewell tarts are excellent. Wonderful addition to the neighbourhood.
I ll admit I thought it was an odd place to open a Scottish cafe but it s busy and for good reason! Foods good, it s very clean, the service is great and there s an ample supply of treats to take home for later!
Love this place and the owners. Lee s always able to deliver!
