all-you-can-eat sushi, undo dishes, and other japanese cuisines
I wish I could write a review of the food at this place, but I can't...because I never had it. My friends and I showed up to celebrate a friend's birthday yesterday. She is a huge sushi fan and was looking forward to it, which meant we all were looking forward to it! It took 10 minutes for them to acknowledge our presence even though there were only 2-3 tables occupied out of 10-12 total in the restaurant. I have noticed a common theme in the recent reviews that there is a female server who is incredibly rude - when we told her there would be five of us she responded with a shocked "Five?!?!" and looked so put out. She then sat us and we asked if some of us could do a la carte and some could do All You Can Eat. She said no - the entire table had to decide. Fair enough, that can be a restaurant policy. But when we decided that our table would go with All You Can Eat she winced and said that, with only one chef, the service would take very long. The sign on the outside of the restaurant says "Sunshine Japanese Restaurant - All You Can Eat"...not "All You Can Eat...when the circumstances are just right". Furthermore, we decided to suck it up and still go with the (slow) All You Can Eat, and the server took our tablets away, leaving us confused as to how exactly we would order what we wanted. After another 10 minutes where it didn't seem like the server/owner (?) had any interest in us we, and more specifically the Birthday Girl, who is usually extremely patient and kind, just decided to cut bait and head to the Brassie Pub nearby. The difference was stark - a place that actually seemed like they wanted our business! I wish that I could review the actual food, which may have been great, who knows, but the structure, service and horrible attitude oozing through every pore of this restaurant ensures neither myself or my friends will ever return again.
First impression: beautiful small restaurant. The AYCE (All you can eat): DELICIOUS! We loved the small sizes of the dishes, that way you can try more dishes instead of overloading on 1 or 2. The servers were kind, the service was quick. Lovely dinner- and a couple of dollars cheaper than some other places ;)
By far the best ayce sushi in Hamilton. No point wasting your money at the other places when this one has the best food, best quality, best selection, best service and best value. Honestly you must try, been going since opening day and won’t go to the other places now
The a la cart menu offers decent value, but nothing I had here was truly noteworthy. I will spare you the excruciating details. If you're trying to scratch a culinary itch with acceptional flavor and high-quality fresh ingredients. I suggest you continue the search. If you want a decent priced meal, that will fill you up. This is your spot. I will also mention we were quickly seated, but the wait for service throughout our visit was painful, to say the least.
It's good to see a new AYCE sushi place in Hamilton! I had high hopes for SunShine, as many reviewers had said the quality is better than other AYCE places like August 8. However, I thought that the quality of the fish was pretty much the same. The salmon sashimi was alright but the other sashimi did not have much taste. The sashimi and rolls were very comparable to other restaurants. The prices for AYCE are slightly lower but there is also slightly less variety as well. The grilled items were a hit or miss (eg. the teriyaki salmon was super dry and overcooked but the basil shrimp was really good). The desserts were pretty good as well. The servers were a little snappy but it was understandable as it was pretty busy when we went (Friday dinner). The food came out quickly in the beginning but really slowed down towards the end. At one point, we waited 20 mins between pacing our order on the iPad and the food coming. Overall a nice little spot that feels a bit more "home-y" compared to August 8 and Sapporo.
First time going there. Went for dinner. Was the only 2 people in the restaurant. Food was awful, the 1st order of cheese wontons were good but the 2nd order of cheese wontons were microwaved to keep hot (heard the microwave) and the taste was like they were fried then chewy from being reheated. The ribs on bone, teriyaki steak was over cooked and so chewy I had a very hard time eating it, it just wouldn't break down. Most of the other food was very chewy that it was hard eating. Was surprised that some items were served with BBQ sauce (taste similar to Diana's BBQ sauce). had the soft crab rolls which would have been good but the meat was fried but was cold like colder then the rest of the items in the roll. Another order of shrimp rolls the seaweed was wet and stretchy that you couldn't even eat it. The surf clam Shamsi not sure why but they cut it up instead of leaving it whole so it looked mangled but also didn't taste fresh. The Mackerel tasted as if it was just sitting in water in a can. Order the beef ramen and the broth smelled burnt and tasted blah. And meat was chewy. Mostly everything we had wasn't good unfortunately for $37+tax and tip it was not worth it. The service wasn't great either as I had to ask for more napkins (only had one each) and ask for water twice. We were hearing the restaurant music and also the chef's music (2 different kinds) and it took a while for the food to come for the only ones being in the restaurant.
Went there on weekends, kids under 5 at 6.99 each. A little bit slow at getting the food up, the salad was fresh and my daughter liked her lettuce without any source.. there was no dessert or fruits for all you can eat.. Overall, if you are a big sushi fan, it provides good sushi. But, if you want to have more choices and flexibility, Mandarin is the best at the same price and kids under 5 free at Mandarin!
Food was delectable! After having a not so great experience at a sushi joint in Toronto I was discouraged for awhile, but I'm very glad I came here! We were seated immediately, we went on a Sunday evening, and perhaps the word of mouth isn't out yet as it was almost empty. That being said this is my new favorite all you can eat Japanese! Absolutely beating out the heralded "August 8" which has been the gold standard. Unlike some other lesser establishments, everything we'd ordered that was meant to be hot, came out HOT and very very fresh. I personally would've preferred the sashimi more chilled, but that's my only complaint about the food. Plus, I didn't expect to have a decent Pad Thai alongside my meal but there it was on the menu. Their torched sushi was to die for, and they used generously thick cut red meats for things like the bacon wrapped asparagus, the beef/steak dishes etc. A very minor gripe being that the servers didn't seem very friendly. Maybe it was an off day or everyone was feeling down for one reason or another but that did sit in the back of my mind during my time there. I'm used to smiles and light conversation and these sorts of places but the staff just seemed clocked out. Perhaps it was because it was 2 hours to close? Service wasn't slow, save for one time them forgetting an order but, forgetting 1 order of, let's say, 20, isn't terrible. All in all of you're a Sushi fan, an all you can eat enthusiast or even just someone that likes Asian food in general this hot new spot is a MUST!! Note: All you can eat is $25/27 for Lunch, weekdays/weekends and $35/37 for dinner. Well worth it all things considered if you have even an average appetite.
Horrible service: servers ignore you, answer rudly, serve wrong dishes. Food quality is on the edge. Cafeteria style dishware. Asks why there is no tip - not interested in feedback - tells us to leave and not come back. We definitely wont.
The food is not fresh, there is often no money to purchase goods, and almost all employees are not paid their wages. Acting rogue when asking for wages
Edited review: hopefully this visit was just a one off as We have always had great service here. But tonight it was not great or even good. The sushi was just as good as before, but the service fell short. Wrong items came, some things never came. No one cleared the dishes the whole meal. We had to message for the bill numerous times. I don t won t to write this place off so we will give it another try. Hopefully, this visit was just a one-off, as we ve always had excellent service here. However, tonight s experience was disappointing, falling short of even good. The sushi was as delicious as before, but the service was a major letdown. Incorrect items arrived, and several dishes were missing entirely and when asked for them 2 more times never came. The empty plates were left unattended in a pile, and we had to repeatedly message the staff to get our bill. Despite these issues, we don t want to write this place off entirely, so we ll give it another chance. Kid-friendliness: Great place to bring your kids if they like sushi
Ordered take out. I was told 25 minutes because they were busy. When we arrived there were 4 people in the restaurant. We waited another half an hour for our order. Teriyaki salmon was well done and dry. Our sushi was warm and half cooked. General Tao chicken was cold. The chicken fried rice was bland and had no flavour and the Edamame was not seasoned with salt. We have ordered there before and the food was way better. I hope they get whatever issues they had last night sorted.
food was outstanding. the hot stuff came out hot. great presentation. a few incorrect orders were brought to my table - and mine to others!
We went last night and it was fantastic the cooks where excellent.
The restaurant owner owed more than $100,000 to the employees and refused to pay it back. They dont even have the money to buy fresh ingredients, Ive been working there, and know everything. Employees who are owed wages are forced to leave and are on the verge of collapse. I will report their serious fraud violations to the immigration department and labor board
Really good all you can eat sushi. Service was very fast and friendly.
We waited 45 minutes to have our order taken. Another 20 minutes to be served. Only 2 of 3 items ordered were served. The broccoli was cold.
we came here at 4pm and the doors was locked but sign was OPEN. we tried calling but the number listed is no longer in service. saw people in the back, however no body acknowledged us. This occurred november 15th.
Really boring rolls and its just ok for taste.... We need a great spot like Namu here in Ancaster
We ve done AYCE sushi here a few times and have never been disappointed with the food. Great selection of dishes with lots of variety, food came out at a good pace, and everything was tasty! Decent prices as well. Would recommend to others!
Buckle in this is a long one but worth the read Been here a few times with my partner and it was just okay, they never play music so it s very eerie inside, both times we do believe he got slight food poisoning because of cramping right after. Went last night with 5 friends an hour and a half before we had a show to go to down the street. We were offered Al A Carte or All You Can Eat and we asked for All You Can Eat, our server sighed and looked stressed and told us it would take a long time for that and Al A Carte is faster due to them being busy (there was 2 other tables of 4), I asked what the difference is as we would just order the same items but Al A Carte would actually be more in quantity she didn t give an answer and just looked stressed so we just agreed even though we all felt it was just a way to get more money out of us. Food arrived in a timely manner, everything tasted good (not amazing but not bad). Although when our sashimi arrived, the salmon was still frozen, so we told her and she just took the dish back, without apologizing or saying anything. About 30 minutes had passed when my friend went and told her we no longer wanted it and requested it be taken off our bills, this time we had began deep diving their reviews and felt on edge about the whole place. She then came over after we asked for the bills and brought one bill, not split and said she couldn t split it for us and informed us their system was down and we HAD TO pay cash or etransfer - if this WAS true we should ve been notified prior to sitting and I know for a fact she didn t tell the other tables who came in. My friend was great and dealt with her, had to remind her to remove the sashimi and demanded a discount if we were to pay the requested way. All of us didn t have cash and we all didn t feel comfortable e-transfering but we had to get to our a show and didn t have the time to argue, so my one friend paid for it all and we left. 25 minutes later 3 of started feeling sick and one of us actually had to leave our show to go to the bathroom. This whole place is sketchy and a mess and I will never return and I STRONGLY advise no one else go. I never write reviews - this might be my first or second ever but I felt I needed to call this restaurant out. Read my review and the other 1 stars .. never eat here. I will be contacting them directly to demand a full refund for our meals last night due to the food poisoning. OH I forgot, 3 of us ordered bottle beers and they tasted very off. Would give 0 stars if I could
Food quality is great here. It s the service that is awful. Was here for AYCE dinner and our dinner session was 2 hours long. Not because we were eating so much, but because they are so darn slow at everything. The service is bad to the point that if you order something from the ipad and they dont have it, they just cancel it and not even tell you. I am not annoyed that they had things on the ipad they were not serving, can happen to anyone. I am annoyed that they cant even take the basic effort to communicate with their customers. Food is good but dont go here is you have plans after the meal ..you will not be able to keep them. Do take out, dont do dine in!
Had AYCE lunch last week. Previous visits always very good. This time not so, fish was very watery, which made it tough & chewy & tasteless. Wondered afterwards if new owners. Food : 1/5
I went to this establishment with some coworkers and the server was rude. The server we had barely checked on us to see if we needed anything and they withheld a lot of our items that we ordered and told us that we ordered significantly more items than we all actually ordered. This was my first and last time here since the service was poor and there was a lack of care towards the customers. When we mentioned that we didn t like certain items, the server we had was rude about it and she seemed unimpressed that we didn t like certain items.
SunShine Japanese Restaurant left an extremely negative impression. The staff showed no willingness to assist and completely ignored the principles of good customer service. The food was tasteless, and the service deteriorated further because our group chose not to order the all you can eat option. We came to this conclusion because the staff was very pushy, insisting that we choose the all you can eat option, which made the experience even more unpleasant. Such treatment of customers, especially when they come in a large group, is entirely unacceptable for a restaurant aiming to maintain a good reputation.
Awful service, worst ever tasteless ramen and absolutely disgusting sushi set( just had to throw it away
This is the worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been. The staff is rude and careless. When we refused having an all you can eat option, they just steered to ignore us. The food is tasteless - ramens have no taste (just water and noodles), sushi set is awful. The washrooms are tiny , so you can t even go into. The worst food, atmosphere and customer service ever!
Awful service. Food was either tasteless or way too over salted. Customer service was at an all time low, employees were rude and trying to sell their all you can eat menu even after many declines to that offer. When our group decided to eat a la carte, waiters didn t even bother come over even though there were very few customers there. Do not recommend.
All the food was flavorless and tasted like rubber. No customer service at all.
The soup was like Mr Noodle without the spice packets. The toilets floors are dirty, feet stick to the floor
Food seems store bought, but that is still somehow insulting to grosery stores. All ingrediens are of low quality, and toilet stalls are very cramped.
Server did not acknowledge us at all, took 10 minutes to be seated even though there was nobody at all in the store. Did not leave a tip, and food was subpar. Not genuine Japanese restaurant, is Chinese owned and doesnt deserve that high a rating.
We called yesterday to inquire about the all you can eat program. My wife and I both have stomach issues therefore the all you can eat option is not for us I was told that it wouldn t be a problem . I asked about the bento boxes and were told they would be available.. We were going to celebrate our daughter in-laws birthday so there was going to be 6 in total with the grandkids. When we arrived the restaurant was empty. We were told that we all had to have the all you can eat option. Further., my wife and I couldn t sit at the same table, we had to sit separately. because we didn t want the all you can eat option Further, the bento boxes, which were on the menu, weren t available. There was no other options so we decided to leave. I guess they aren t really interested in providing good service and staying in business!! We have eaten here before and just ordered from the menu. We had enjoyed the food and wanted to share the experience with our family We will definitely not return!!
Came with a group. Everyone but me wanted to overpay for the all you can eat. Sure. Lady did not hear me, so I approached the counter and asked to order something from the menu. Her reply was that I had to sit on a different table, asking for clarification she pointed at the table and said to sit there or no food. Food look decent, but never again.
What a lovely place to have sushi and a bottle of sake! Fantastic flavors, amazing service, polite and friendly, quality of food was second to none! Price and value were so amazing. Thank you so much for a great evening and we will definitely be back soon!
Super great sushi here at a reasonable price! More variety and better than the typical all you can eat sushi! The set up is very open. Parking: Very close to restaurant plenty of parking Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs at all, curb bends down to the parking lot
Honestly, a delightful meal, the selections were perfect, I highly recommend the garlic beef. The waitstaff were very friendly, and it was the best green tea Ive ever had. 10/10
We, my daughter and I, went there because we liked the salmon sushi pizza, we ordered from the menu but... surprised, when they came with the order, it was prepared so different than before. The dressing was spicy (hot) and sweet. For our taste, we didnt really like it. My daughter doesnt eat hot, and I didnt like the mix sweet and flavor on the salmon. I let the waitress know about it and complained that the menu doesnt show any of that. If I knew, I wasnt ordering the sushi pizza.
This quickly became my fav sushi takeout in the area! Sapporo was previously my fav (and is still amazing) but this is so much more convenient in Ancaster. The sushi rolls are always fresh and soft rice. Lots of different vegetarian options (instead of just 1-2 roll options). And VERY affordable compared to other places I find!! Definitely worth trying! And I m admittedly a sushi snob!
Nice place to enjoy some good sushi
The food is great at this location. However, the service lacks a lot to be desired. So much so that I will not return.
Great sushi, great service and fair prices, love the all-you-can-eat! The owner & staff work so hard and are such great people. Really hope this place stays around. 5 stars!
Heads up, we just went to go there and they are closed. Notice on window says they are locked out due to not paying rent. This was on May 1, 2024
Great sushi in Ancaster! Best value and quality!
Our favourite sushi place in town. Excellent price, not too much rice in the rolls, and good service!
I ve had the bento box delicious. This rating is for the Chicken Pad Thai. Labeled spicy but was so bland and one note that my off the shelf supermarket noodles have more flavour. Stick to what you do best.
I m so happy that you open again . Thank you for the delicious sushi .
Amazing!! We have ordered here many times and always great
Second and last time we will eat at this establishment. The first time we went, we had a slightly better experience. The food was good, not great and service was extremely slow. Almost as though they were purposely sending dishes out slowly so wed fill up and not eat as much. Tonight, our first three dishes arrived 45 minutes after ordering and were all freezing cold. We watched all the other tables get served multiple dishes, get full and ask for the bill. When we asked the staff where our food was, theyd run to the back and never come back. After more than an hour with two children crying for food we left and got dinner elsewhere. Very disappointed. This restaurant does not match the online reviews
Took my mom here for dinner on Mother s Day after coming to this restaurant multiple times we ve always had the same experience. The food is good but the service is so slow. Food dishes took 15-20 minutes for 1 or two plates at a time, never asked if we needed more water. When we decided we were tired of waiting dishes were coming to our table that we didn t even order. It was a mess and frustrating especially with young kids. Take out took priority for sure and still there was 7+ people standing there waiting for their food. Very very chaotic.
Great food. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheel straight in Food : 5/5 |
Had a little hiccup with the food, however brought it back for attention and the staff were very apologetic and sympathetic about the situation! Very much appreciated the staff who take time to resolve the matter and make sure their customers are happy! Food is great no complaints! Will definitely return for more sushi!
Total came out to $40 for the sashimi that was in fact the smallest pieces of sushi I ve seen. The six mackerel pieces were equal in size to one piece from Ajio. The people at the restaurant were either eating French fries or sitting with empty plates unhappy.
This ayce might be a wee bit cheaper than August 8 but it definitely shows. The portions for non sushi dishes are huge but quality is poor. The sashimi portions were slivers and quality was also poor. I recommend going to East Izakaya in St. Catharines for quality ayce sushi. The service isnt great, you have to ask for more water and even some napkins. There was fruit flies buzzing around.
Great selection and taste! We have been looking for a new sushi restaurant since our last favourite has really slipped in quality, while raising their prices beyond what is worth it.. SunShine is definitely our new go-to for AYCE Sushi!
Amazing, clean, tasty and fresh fish! A huge variety of foods and excellent customer service. The salad dressing is so good! Good prices. The shrimp and sweet potato tempura were absolutely fantastic!
Pretty average. Not really worth it for a la carte.
Went for all you can eat on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Everything was delicious and presented quickly. All the nigiri-style sushi (the kind with pieces laid on top of a small ball of rice) had half pieces of the fish on them. The sashimi was also presented with half pieces. I can understand this as a way of reducing waste, but it does make the pieces less attractive. Overall Im full and satisfied. The others with me also enjoyed their meals. Thanks for a tasty, low-stress visit!
Tasty, fresh and nicely presented takeout. Predictable in that it was exactly what we hoped it would be. Will return. Vegetarian options: Numerous options Parking: Lots of free parking Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access
Edamame was great! But honestly You can save yourself from coming to this place. I was hoping for nice dine in all you can eat experience. But it turned out to be $38 for all you can t eat (but you do your best to finish, lol). Inconsistent at best! Low on freshness and quality of fish and meat. Visited on weekend during peek hour.
Service was very prompt and friendly! Everything was delicious. The only feedback I have is maybe the dessert menu could have a bit more to it in terms of options and serving size. The space is nicely decorated. I left more than satisfied. The price was also right. Sushi was immaculate. Will return.
Ordered take out here last week for the first time. First, the staff was WONDERFUL. Very friendly, welcoming and smiley when I came to pick up! I loved that. The food was EXCELLENT. I mean, very, very impressive and out of all sushi places I have been to, this one has the most fair prices!! I cant wait to go back!!
Loved it. Would be back
Good when you need a sushi fix
Been to this place many times - the food is alright very similar to August 8 - the cheese wontons the first couple visits were amazing as we came more the quality of everything died down. The last 3 times I ve come in there has been the same two old women and the service has been pretty awful and not friendly at all. They don t even greet you properly, they rush you, it s an all you can eat buffet and they are almost mad if you order more then 1 item the last 2 times the unfriendliness and service was upsetting but after the last time, definitely will not be returning nor recommending. The server started actually talking to us finally as we were paying.. meanwhile whole time she would come to our table and speak another language and act very cold.
Food was fresh and fried items (e.g., tempura) weren t greasy. Cost for AYCE lunch can t be beat, especially for food quality/selection and relatively quick service.
Love this restaurant! My new go to AYCE place. You can either order à la carte or AYCE. Reasonable pricing and amazing selection. Wonderful selection. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and delicious. The place is beautiful with spacious booths able to accommodate a party big or small. The staff was really hospitable and attentive. Service was very prompt, even for a Saturday night!
Very fresh food, quality is great and speed of food is on par. Friendly staff. Will return again.
Great Sushi, nice quaint place in Ancaster
Its honestly the best around. The first time I ordered from here I said I would never get sushi anywhere else again. I used to pick up grocery store sushi when I was craving it. Now I ll place my oder before grocery shopping and pick it up on my way out. Its the best!
This is my go-to neighborhood sushi place when I visit my daughter in Ancaster. It has never disappointed me in any way. The food is always well prepared and delicious, and they offer a variety of options on their menu. We always order the all-you-can-eat fare. I especially like the ordering process: they leave a tablet (iPad?) at your table, and you order from that at your pace and frequency. They have a couple of simple and reasonable rules: 1) there is no limit to how much you order, as long as you eat it all and 2) there is a 2 hour ordering window that starts when you place your first order.
We order take out from here often! The sushi is always fresh and delicious. We love that there are free items tacked onto our order if you order over a certain dollar amount such as edamame or gyoza! The prices are also ver reasonable for the amount of food you get! They are great at taking special requests too. We also recommend Sunshine sushi when friends are looking for a place to order from. Great addition to Ancaster.
Delicious and a ton of food options
Worst sushi place ive been to. Terrible service
This place is definitely a must try all you can eat sushi. Ate there yesterday for the first time and the food and the service was excellent!!!!
Only had the veggie sushi but the quality and price of that was great! Apx $14 total for the veggie combo (18 pieces)
Really pleasant and delicious sushi! Definitely the best all you can eat I have had!
Standard all you can eat sushi.
Awesome sushi would definitely go back
Great place for sushi, they offer a wide variety of different asian style dishes, some tastier than others, but the portions are generous at good prices.
Quality sushi!! Great prices. The goods came pretty quick and the presentation of the food was lovely. The staff are friendly. A great stop for all you can eat! And the take out deals are good too.
This place really hit the spot for the Sushi craving I had! I ordered the Sweet Potato Roll (6pcs) and the Spicy Salmon Roll (6pcs) and had a wonderful lunch experience here! Fresh and tasty is how I would describe my meal. You can really taste the Sweet potato and avocado flavour and it is not masked by tempura batter. The Spicy Salmon rolls had generous amounts of quality salmon and tasted delicious as well. Staff are very kind and I would recommend this place and will be coming back again for sure =)
Food was fresh and fairly priced, the portion sizes were large and the staff were quite friendly!
My husband and I ate here the second day the restaurant was open and it ran so smoothly. We went for the all-you-can-eat lunch, and the food and customer service were absolutely amazing! We ve been waiting for a sushi restaurant to open in the area (we were able to walk). It was so refreshing to try a new place. We were very impressed and we ll definitely be back.
It is okay for the price. You could get more quality and variaty in another sushi place. Some of the ingredients didnt taste fresh, I could see the avocado with black parts. It is not bad, but for the amount of money they charge I would go to a better all you can eat sushi place. The service was great tough, however I can tell the manager seem a little pushy with the staff. I felt bad for them.
Very nice place and good food
Great Salmon pizza! Shrimp temporary are perfect
Very good restaurant, very good service, reasonable prices, very private environment, tempura fried shrimp is very good and you can try the chefs workmanship and the ingredients are very fresh
We finally have a go-to sushi place in Ancaster! Just a day or two following the opening of SunShine, we ordered some takeout to try it out and we were very impressed. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. We were impressed enough to come back for a dine-in lunch as well as a dine-in dinner with a large group. The selection is excellent, with the usual sushi mainstays as well as our favourite dim sum options like shrimp dumplings and pork siu mai. The bento boxes are also very good and helpful for those who have trouble deciding what to get from the large menu. Well be back again! (and again). Parking: Plenty of parking is available in the plaza.
Fantastic food and experience!!! Very friendly staffs. Sashimi is very fresh
Since discovering SunShine Japanese Restaurant three weeks ago, I ve been there every weekend - even though it s 110km from my home in Richmond Hill. For an AYCE sushi restaurant, the quality is very good and the prices are fair. Their customer service is also very good. They are quite attentive and accommodating. I also like the traditional music they play inside rather than some Top 40 radio station. I had a nice virtual birthday celebration here on February 26th. Thanks to the neighbouring supermarket Fortinos for the wonderful Red Velvet Cake + Cupcakes. I highly recommend SunShine Japanese Restaurant!
Must to try this Sushi restaurant. 100% recommend.
Happy that a sushi place has finally opened in west Ancaster. Good food and decent prices. Only complaint was the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls weren t very spicy. Tasty, just not much heat. Sashimi was fantastic.
First time dining in tonight with my wife and child. Definitely the best all- you -can -eat sushi all of us have had ( compared to August 8 etc) Service was quick, restaurant was clean and easy iPad ordering. There were items on the menu we ve never had before which were amazing including the eggplant and enoki beef. Highly recommend this place. They ve only been opened a month and have no doubt they ll be busy once the word gets out!
Taste good, nice portions and priced well. Now I dont need to drive to upper james!
Finally a great local place for all you can eat sashimi in Ancaster. I will be sure to visit here often service is always quick, friendly and served with a smile I always pay cash .
One of the local friends took me there and we had very good lunch.
Totally delicious! My friends and I all had a great time, well be back.
Everything is great except there is barely any cheese in cheese wonton lol
Food was good. Service was friendly. High recommend to try
Very good experience.
Got a teriyaki chicken and beef bento box. The meat, rice and sushi was very good. Was not a fan of the tempura or the dressing that came with the salad.
This is my new go to place for sushi. Previous always had to go into Hamilton to get my sushi fix. I have gotten takeout a few times here and this is the first time I was able to take a picture before it was devowered. I find the sushi and rolls to be very fresh. The party platters are very balanced. I ordered three different trays and there were very few overlaps. I also find the large 80 piece tray has a nice balance of sashimi, Maki rolls and sushi. The price I find is very competitive and fair. I havent tried the all you can eat yet but will soon. I suspect I wont be disappointed. The staff was friendly and nice. Even asked how many people it was for and made sure I had the right amount of individual soya sauce. Maybe because it was a large order she asked but nice regardless.
My girlfriend and I have a sushi date night once a week. We love to try new restaurants as much as possible and we were in for a treat tonight! This is hands down the best AYCE spot in Hamilton/Burlington/Ancaster area. Ipad ordering was very user friendly. Everything came out quickly and was very fresh/tasty.... we were also surprised with the large amount of options. Biggest surprise was that pad Thai was an option and was very delicious...definitely exceeded our expectations and we will be back.... HIGHLY RECOMMEND
This is the best sushi place Ive been to yet in the Hamilton area. The food is excellent - tasty and fresh. The service is efficient, VERY friendly, and consistent. Our table was checked on very regularly and we didnt have to ask for anything, because it was already brought to the table. The place is very clean and the atmosphere is inviting. Our servers were lovely and the chefs made every dish worth ordering, with few exceptions! Highly recommended for AYCE or a la carte, as both menus are available. They were noticeably quite busy with takeout and delivery orders. Sushi and Rolls: 9 / 10 The best Ive had yet in the Hamilton area, especially considering they offer all-you-can-eat! The quality is noticeable and the technique is superior. The taste, freshness, and the variety was all quite impressive. The hand roll was nice as well. Spring Rolls: 8 / 10 Tasty but overcooked. Great dip. Tempura: 8 / 10 Big, crunchy, tasty! We tried the shrimp and veggies. Beef Short Rib: 8 / 10 Tender, tasty marinade, garlic and soy flavour. Pad Thai: 8 / 10 Very surprising! Better than a lot of local thai spots. Just needs crushed peanuts and a lime wedge to be rated higher. 9 / 10 easy with those simple moves, and maybe higher if you add a chicken AND shrimp option. The tofu is very good. The sprouts are fresh and crunchy. The chicken is tender and tasty. Miso Soup: 8 / 10 I dont usually enjoy Miso, but this had a nice broth and texture with a pleasant taste. Dim Sum: 7.5 / 10 Frozen but still tasty. Calamari: 7.5 / 10 Tasty and not chewy, quite tender! Chicken Fried Rice: 7 / 10 Good taste. A bit sweet. LOTS of egg, meat, and veggies, which made this quite nice. I enjoyed this more than I would expect, as I dont usually order fried rice when getting AYCE sushi. Won Ton Soup: 5 / 10 Basic but nothing wrong with it. Mild broth and frozen-tasting won ton dumplings. Ramen: 1 / 10 Same broth as wonton. Instant noodle experience. I would suggest taking it off the menu. The food here is delicious and the selection is already excellent, so Id leave the ramen to the noodle houses in the area. I didnt even care about this because everything else was so good. Other dishes: fried cheese wonton, shrimp skewers, mango juice; all worth trying.
Great food and service 10/10
Have been here 4 times since theyve opened and always a great experience. Food is very good, great variety, super fresh and the staff is extremely friendly. Totally recommend.
We really enjoyed the food there! The service was very fast, portions were pretty large, the food was fresh and prices are affordable (around 12-13 dollars for 8 dragon rolls). We ordered chicken pad thai and 3 types of rolls. Definitely will come back again. Thank you!
Excellent sushi, good service.
Wonderful variety and quality!
Went for the first time. Food was really good. Only thing I wish was they had a little bit more of a dessert menu but all in all very good
This was a Korean place a couple months ago, same location and phone number. They double charged me for my dinner on my credit card and would not return messages about it. Had to open dispute with bank. Check your records carefully if you go here and keep an eye on your credit card.
The food at this new restaurant was overall decent, we had a variety of options. The servers however seemed unwelcoming and rude. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly!
This is an excellent place. Great food, service, and value. Definitely hitting it regular. Vegetarian options: Plenty of choices Dietary restrictions: Just ask and they will accommodate Parking: Its a parking lot Kid-friendliness: They let kids dine here Wheelchair accessibility: Did are wide enough as are walk ways and bathrooms
Great AYCE place in Hamilton
Great quality sushi.
Hidden Gem, Delicious fresh and Pleasant Service
Had a great time having lunch at SunShine Sushi.. It was an AYCE lunch and food was great! I really enjoyed their sushi, grilled meat, tempura and udon. As a resident of Ancaster, i usually go to August 8 or Spring Sushi, Im glad I found this place and will certainly be coming back. Service was great and the restaurant was clean. I had a really great meal.
Amazing and quality food. Wish more people acknowledged this restaurants presence.
This was my first time here and definitely NOT THE LAST TIME. I was amazed by the fresh ingredients they used. We ordered a combination of appetizers like seaweed Salad, Edamame, Shrimp Tempura, Calamari and Avocado Salad. We also ordered some Beef Teriyaki, Enoki Beef Roll, Beef Negomaki and Dumplings. From the rolls, we ordered Green Dragon Roll, Red Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Fire Dragon Roll. When the rolls were served, the avocado, salmon and shrimp used in them were so fresh that we put in another order only for maki rolls. The service was also really good; the staff were nice and the service was fast.
Food is super fresh and generous portions. Love this place. Best bento I have had in a while. Dinner for two $47
Fresh good quality ! We will be back. :)
We came in early dinner time. We were a bit confused as when we were there last time it was a very good Korean/Japanese restaurant. We guessed they have changed the ownership and decided to give it a try anyway. The lady server came out with an unwelcoming attitude and was a bit rude when we asked about all you can eat or a la cart option. Tool a look through the menu, we knew this is just another Chinese owned restaurant that offers unauthentic Japanese food, which is not a big deal. The restaurant could have been a good option for some people. We decided to pass and chose not to stay though with the main reason was because of the unprofessional server that brought down our excited mood for our family dinner. Even our kids did not feel like staying. To the new owner: please take serious look into staffing matter as it will affect your business.
Celebrated my besties bday and was very happy with the vibe, taste and cost.
Their sushi is great and a pretty normal price. Not expensive, very fair. I go there quite often since they ve opened and it s great and fresh every time. I didn t love the wonton soup but i ve loved everything else i ve tried
Went for all you can eat (AYCE) lunch on a Sunday, place has an open space feeling, calm, with good and fast service. The food was really tasty, I was specially surprised how flavourful the hot food was. It was my first time there, for sure there will be a come back. From the Japanese restaurants I ve tried in Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, and Burlington this was the best for AYCE and overall would consider 2nd or 3rd.
Side dishes were great, sushi rolls could have been better.
Really good sushi and fried rice.
Food is tasty and the service is excellent.
Really great food, clean and classy atmosphere with fair prices.
Ordered a tray for takeout a while back. Everything was great! Prompt service, food was good, and althought I didnt dine-in, the interior was clean. So happy ancaster finally has a sushi spot. Parking: Parking is ample.
I was surprised at how much food came in my sushi Bento box...reasonable price and delicious. Definitely coming back soon!
Weve done both take-out and dine-in at this place and its been great both times. The sashimi is top notch. Our 50 piece sashimi platter was the best weve had in the Hamilton Area. The selection of Rolls is is extensive they dont over due the rice like other places. The soft shell crab roll and Volcano roll are two of our favourites. When we dined in for All-you-can-eat it was just as great. Lots to choose from, everything was fresh, and everything was delicious. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. We will be going back for sure!
Wow ! Impressed. Excellent food and service. Clean very modern restaurant. Excellent service. Will be back ! Parking: Right in the core of Ancaster s plazas on Wilson St.
The food was better than any other sushi place I ve eaten at. Would def recommend the AYCE if you re hungry and looking to get your money s worth
Best all you can eat sushi in Ancaster/Hamilton! Selection is not the biggest BUT it s by far the best quality. Come support them as they are super nice as well. They actually check on you and always ask if everything was good. You won t get that at all the snobbier locations. They also do Uber eats etc
Great sushi place in Hamilton service and food are amazing. Also you have the option to choose all you can eat.
My boyfriend loves this place and the service is amazing. The mango cake is to die for!!
Great AYCE. Quality of the sushi is very good. Price is reasonable too. Food came out fast.
Very good quality all you can eat with a large variety of food. I appreciate that there wasn t too much MSG in it. I felt good when I got full. Keep it up!
Everything was excellent. Super food, friendly staff, fast service and a very clean restaurant. Would highly recommend.
We cant say enough about how GREAT this place is The quality of food is above and beyond. The prices are 15 to 20 % BELOW what we are used to paying. The purity and complexity of the flavour profiles are EXTRAORDINARY! Our kids found all sorts of menu items to eat and to try new things. The Sushi Artists here are doing it RIGHT. We found the digital menu a little confusing, but that was likely from our own inexperience and the server was more than willing to help out. If you LOVE sushi, then give this place a try. You will be back time and time again! Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie rolls at a great price! Kid-friendliness: My kids LOVED the food and tried everything. Wheelchair accessibility: First floor and wide access to booths.
I would post pictures but I forgot to before everything was eaten. Very fresh, large portions, excellent tasting! Ordered a large sushi platter. Some of the biggest best tasting rules weve ever had! Wheelchair accessibility: Front door
Had the all-you-can-eat menu & loved everything that we ordered. Tempura shrimp was a big hit as well as the spicy pad Thai. Everything was fresh and hot. The wait staff were very pleasant & extremely helpful. I highly recommend this lovely Japanese restaurant in Ancaster. Parking: The restaurant is in a small plaza with ample parking including disability spots close by.
My husband and I visited this place today because we stumbled upon it one day while going to Basics in Ancaster. The restaurant is truly a hidden gem! We had the AYCE and boy it was sensational!! The food was delicious, hot and flavourful! We had so many items and trust me WE DID! Haha ALL the items ordered came promptly, hot out of the kitchen and lip smacking. Not one was disliked at all. Some reviewers had said that not many choices and Mandarin is better. But for us this place is much better than Mandarin. There are many options of food items to choose that would fill your hungry belly. I don t understand why there are negative reviews. It is honestly the best place so far for AYCE Japanese. The service was fast and staff is very friendly and customer oriented. The only complaint that I have is that our water and tea glasses were not refilled at all. But we still gave a substantial tip. The restaurant itself is beautiful, quiet, modernly decorated and very welcoming. The washrooms as well as the sitting area is well kept and clean. Ordering on the tablet is pretty easy and customer friendly. If you have issues with the order the staff is more than willing to help. Some Our favourite dishes were mango shrimp, shrimp tempura, rock shrimp, garlic mushrooms, torched salmon and eel sushi, green dragon roll, garlic steak, ..oh heck we loved it ALL!! If you ever have a craving for Japanese, be sure to come try SUNSHINE because you will not be disappointed!!
Quality
Great selection of all you can eat Sushi, always friendly service, good price.
Bento boxes are excellent. Amazing value - spectacular food. Ancaster is lucky to have Sunshine!
WOW! New favourite sushi spot! Ive been here a few times now and the staff are so polite & makes sure yourre satisfied with your dishes! Their sushi along with the rest of the options they offer are top tier! So fresh and flavourful! HIGHLY recommend :)
Clean, quick service, accommodating, delicious food! Our new go-to for all you can eat sushi.
Worst service, refused to allow all you can eat an hour before closing. Staff was very rude
Atmosphere and the food was very good.
Good AYCE Sushi, food came out quick and fresh. Will be back. Parking: In a big plaza with lots of parking, including directly in front of the restaurant.
New favorite sushi spot. Costs are fair and as a vegetarian, the sweet potato sushi is a huge hit! Vegetarian options: Yes, several, including the gyoza which is veggie. Usually its pork or chicken so this was a nice surprise
Amazing food and excellent service!! All you can eat is the way to go!
Great food.
Lots of options and variety for everyone! Sushi rolls are a perfect size for all you can eat. Seafood was very fresh. Lots of options for people who dont like sushi as well like stir fry and udon noodles. Loved it!
I recently went to dine in at sunshine sushi and was very disappointed in the portion size. I ordered a sashimi bento box to dine in and couldn t believe the size of all the different items that were apart of the bento box. From the reduced amount of tempura pieces, to the 3 leaves lettuce in my salad, and to the dime size fish pieces, I was utterly disappointed to say the least. Talk about shrinkflation I know times are tough and prices have increased everywhere and for everything but if you re going to increase your pricing then the amount of food you receive should remain the same! I ve ordered this meal multiple times and this was drastically different in size from the last time I had it. I will say that the food tasted decent but I was definitely still hungry when normally I wouldn t be able to finish the box. Such a shame as it s conveniently located in my neighbourhood.
I was getting tired of the usual sushi spots in Hamilton and wanted to try Sunshine Sushi since it was near my home. It was delicious! Everything was so fresh. Even the hot items I order were still hot when it was delivered. Its my new go-to!
Wow what a nice place for sushi all you can eat!! Its delicious. The sushi, sashimi, everything was delicious. Service was nice. They have dessert too. Great find in the city!
Quick and friendly service, small portions though. Good quality food for a great price!
Everything was just amazing!
Good selection, fresh food, polite and prompt service. Will go back. Less than a year old. Hopefully it will stay this good. Food
Nice people and great food!
Best quality sushi Ive had in Hamilton, I keep coming back. you have to check this place out!
Nice atmosphere! Food is good and portions are big the chicken bento box has a lot of chicken and flavours are great. Sushi really nice and fresh. Dietary restrictions: The chicken fried rice is great for those that need gluten free and lactose free and even you can ask for not egg so work for those that are intolerant.
I ve been to many AYCE sushi places and this one is at the top of my list!! They totally deserve more love. Amazing selection of good quality sashimi for dinner (butter fish & mackerel was )! Their torched sushi was so delicious even their sushi rice tastes better than other places and the rice to fish ratio just makes sense unlike lots of other places where they give way too much sushi rice. (My partner loved their eel fried rice.) This place beats August 8 & Spring sushi for sure ! The service was great as well - always happy to help and very friendly.
Great sushi and fried rice
