Ordered throug Uber eats Wonton soup was soury and taste of old stock or forced defrost. Chicken wings was old stock taste like its been recycled and over fried. There are visible chicken feathers too. If they are busy, I hope they just canceled the order and that is understandable but serving us with disgusting food is totally unacceptable. I normally put 5 star even with average product and pains me to throw in a low rating yo them but they have to up their game repect their own product.
Chicken fried rice was mushy and the chicken pieces looked like jelly. Chicken balls looked like they had been fried twice then sitting for hours before they got to my dish. They were cold and very tough. Egg roll was doughy. I got takeout, I didn't bother calling to express my disappointment as giving food like that to a paying customer has to be deliberate. Really disappointing as the last time I ordered lunch from them it was hot and fresh. That was a while back I guess things have changed.
Customer service from the staff was as good as they could provide as the staff were just following managers guidance tonight. However we received 4 orders of sweet and sour chicken all with the chicken undercooked. The manager advised their staff to inform us that we can order something else or get a refund for our orders as apparently the chicken is supposed to be that colour and texture and they can’t cook it any other way and the manager was apparently willing to explain this description of how it’s cooked over the phone to us. Be careful ordering from here. Reaching out/filing a complaint to the simcoe/muskoka health unite to hopefully prevent this from happening to anyone else.
Ghost town restaurant. Probably a direct correlation of untasty food and terrible service. I stood at the counter for a full 5 minutes and was glared at a couple times without a god damn greeting or welcome. Some businesses just don’t get it.. don’t go here. If you’re looking for Asian cuisine that’s not as underwhelming as this place, there’s a few other places that will actually appreciate your business.
We ordered through Uber Eats that gives it a 4.4 star rating which I do not agree with The lemon chicken was stringy and tasted fishy. The beef and broccoli is done in a gravy which tastes horrible. We were very disappointed in our meal and will not be ordering from here again.
This place never fails. I live down the street and every so often I get a craving. Their food is always hot and tastes great. Staff is very nice and friendly as well. Will always come back. Keep up the great work!!
This is the last time I will be ordering from here, first time the chicken was more cartilage than chicken, but I thought maybe it was a one off and decided to order again. Absolutely horrified to find dark brown, almost burnt chicken balls. Their photos look good (and show nice Golden chicken balls) and the price is awesome but it's such a shame the have absolutely no quality control. I've worked in many restaurants and would never dream of sending out food that was this over cooked. It takes 5 minutes to re make something, accidents happen, but knowingly sending overcooked food out is just a pure lack of care .
Ordered chicken and rice soup, and I received a cup full of rice and some rubbery chicken. Vegetables were not cooked, the beef was slimy and the rice was over cooked. You should not be serving this kind of quality of food. You should look into a new head cook.

I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED WHEN PEOPLE TOLD ME NOT TO GO THERE BUT I HAD TOO SEE FOR MYSELF! LISTEN WHEN I TELL YOU ITS NO GOOD. I Ordered & Paid for Chicken Pad Thai with eggroll on side. Well when I got home with my order it was Pork Pad Thai, NO egg roll or the sweet & sour sauce that I asked for before leaving the restaurant. So NO I Don t Recommend going, I Give it 0.1 Out Of 5 THE FOOD SUCKED

I dodnt order from our typical spot early enough and had to try another spot. While I appreciate it was Mothers Day, we had pre-ordered for pickup. I sat for 1/2 hour waiting. I thought at least it would be hot which wasnt and food was rather bland. Makes me appreciate my typical spot

Tastiest beef fried rice S&S chicken lightly breaded
Ordered szechuan chicken, got delivered chicken with Chinese vegetables. Had them on call they denied repeatedly that they got my order wrong. Not ordering again from here. Food taste is also not good and the wrong item that I got had literally bland taste.
moved to here for 2 years now, my wife and I are WFH, usually order for our lunch. always order lunch special, its from $6 to $7.5 currently, which i can totally accept as everything is up. But, the portion is so tiny now, they are giving at least 30% more rice with 70% less topping. Will order there again to see if things getting better.
Great Chinese food, and the best value in town! I have no complaints with it whatsoever. I recommend any of their sweet and sour, sesame, or general Tao chicken dishes. Fried rice is also terrific!

It was great! I have never eaten such delicious Chinese food. Ordered this food for the first time through Uber delivery, afraid that it would upset me, but this food made me happy. The portions are so big that I couldnt even eat 1/4 of the portion. Thanks a lot!

Not a very good experience! They didnt get an order right I had to drive back to get the other half. The chicken looks like breaded fish seems undercooked. This is the worst Chinese food experienceIve ever had. They dont even have a bathroom! Im going to be more careful!

Arguably the best General Tao chicken Ive ever had - havent found a replacement yet. At one point in my college years I would get this very regularly for nearly 4 years - as the amount of food, and price-point was amazing. The taste is irreplaceable. Miss you guys!
Otherwise very good taste wise but was told that Chow Mein did not have noodles but bean sprouts? I ve never heard or seen that before. In English chow mein translates to fried noodle Lo Mein translates to stirred or tossed noodle just something to beware of if your expecting noodles in your transitional chow mein from there. This is non traditional chow mein

I would give it one star but the foods actually good, problem is when they say its going to be ready what they mean is when you show up with no one ahead of you and your food is sitting there ready, they might just ignore you for 15min, totally unacceptable unless your time isnt important and you dont have a schedule. They might not even acknowledge you at all, like they ignored me today. I wont be wasting my time on this place again

Very poor quality food that is always over cooked. Can barely get a metal fork into the sesame chicken. Poor customer service and delivery drivers are crooked too. Who ever heard of a driver not carrying a ten dollar bill for change, just weasel tactics to get bigger tips . Better to go to dragon wok.

Used to be out favourite Chinese takeout but owner or cooks changed and we won t go back. We ve noticed a change for the worse the last two times but gave them another try. Picked up food tonight and waited while they prepared it. Got home to cold fried rice and under-cooked shrimp. Sadly no more chances.
I ordered deep fried wonton and an egg roll. Red sauce container was just over half full and cold. Didnt have enough for all the wonton. But they both tasted good. No plum sauce for the egg roll. But it also tasted good. I did get a fortune cookie.

Got a order of orange chicken came home and it was burnt and overly spicy so called about it and the guy didn t seem to care been a regular customer and never had a issue then this won t be returning after this they won t do anything to fix the situation to keep a regular customer rice was also very over cooked and mushy very disappointed i feel like I wasted my money

Have been ordering here for a number of years and the last couple of times the quality has dramatically gone downhill. Some of the dishes were so salty we could not eat them and the over all dishes were so oily we threw them away. Sadly we have found another good spot and will not be returning.
This used to be our go-to Chinese food place, but lately the quality has gone downhill. It must be under new management because the menu and sign outside have changed. We ordered from here last night and it was awful, I barely even ate any. The cheese wontons and egg rolls were good, but our combination plates were awful. The chicken fried rice tasted like flavorless mush and like it was a couple of days old. The chicken in the sweet and sour chicken and general tao chicken was fatty, gristly, and disgusting. We wont be going back, which is a shame because its so close to home.

Sweet and sour chicken is chewy and the short ribs are just batter with a chunk of bone. The chicken lo mein and Lemon chicken were good though.
Just went here for lunch, great price for lunch menu specials that comes with either white rice or chicken fried rice, & choice of egg roll, veg spring roll, or pop. We got the s&s chicken (not the breaded balls, but chicken ), & sesame chicken. All was made right away, not from a warmer. Was told 10 minutes, she was bringing it out but saw she took a double check in the bag, & saw they missed something, so 5 more minutes but with extra stuff we didnt pay for: fortune cookie, & cheese wontons - they were SO good! For a small mom & pop Chinese place Ive usually had poor experiences, but HotWok has exceeded my expectations, will Definitely be back there soon!
Was not impressed. There was 3 containers we could not even eat and the rest of the dishes were chewy and not very good. But the cheese wontons were amazing

Great place. We were the only customers so the service was fast. The food looked homemade. Instead of chicken balls they had these finger like things, that is a good thing as it had a lot less breading. Overall a good place to eat.
I recently ordered from here for the first time ten minutes after receiving the order I called the store with no response so I called there driver to notified them I was unhappy with my order I tried a little bit to see if I liked it but was unhappy with the appearance and taste of the order the chicken wings still had feathers on them and food was saturated with grease the driver told they were closed Mondays so I could call back Tuesday for a refund which I did and was told as long as half the order was there they would refund my money as long as I brought it in I explained to them I dont drive and Im crippled up with a major back injury and dont drive she told if I didnt bring it in they wouldnt do anything for me so I had a relative come and pick me up and help me take the stuff back to the store I returned 95 percent of the food that was ordered and when I got there I carried it all back in which was quite a big chore as Im forced walk with a cane only to find out after ordering 89 dollars in food I was only given 60 dollar refund and told take it or leave it I felt this was rediculous after explaining my physical condition and ordering it as a delivery they still chose to force me to come out and do their leg work after being treating this way and seeing the very poor quality of food I was given and the fact that they obviously dont stand behind the quality of their food and dont care about the circumstances dealt to there customers I definately wont be ordering from this restaurant again and suggest you dont waste your time as they have wasted mine as they stood and yelled at me for half an hour so after paying 89 dollars and have a 6 dollar tip so 95 dollars I was refunded 60 dollars and told take it or leave it but returned 95 percent of the food I feel I have been ripped off 35 dollars food greasy and tastes like cardboard

Excellent take out food! I always order the dinner combo. Comes with 2 types of chicken, chicken fried rice, and an egg roll (I always upgrade to a spring roll for $0.25). Amazing quality and quantity! Definitely recommend this place.
Hot Wok was my favorite Chinese food place in Barrie. They have recently changed the food they serve. I am not sure if ownership has changed but the food is completely different and not very good. Its now all premade /pre packaged. They literally added a curtain to the kitchen, so you cant see that they dont cook the food. I used to order twice a month. I will never be ordering again. I gave 2 stars not 1 because they service was actually very good and fast.

I ordered a general Taos chicken with rice. I felt it was a waste of money and time. The portions were too little for that price. If you want to eat chicken, I m 100% recommend FIRST CHOICE CHICKEN AND FISH( just beside of that store). They have the same Taos chicken with better price and better taste.

Disappointed! Second time coming here first me and my girlfriend came in store, we were greated well and served even better, BUT the portion I ordered Shewshan beef(excuse my misspelling)BOTH times had 3-4 pieces of meat all the rest veggies like I ordered beef and green just without the beef, anywase Ive included a picture there chicken balls need to be made bigger, the sauce is excellent, idk the 2 combo dinners came to 24$ but I think we would of been happier ordering from a place that we havent only eaten once maybe the owners can respond to this review so I can give this restraunt thats a 10 min walk from me another chance

One thing out of 4 was ok. Will not be returning back there. Taste was off in the pork and the sauce was bad or something. Spit it out soon as put it in my mouth. I have yet to find a good chinese place here in Barrie.
Unfortunately this restaurant fell below expectations. We ordered the Shanghai noodles and beef ho feng (flat noodles). The Shanghai noodles arrived dressed in a bright red sauce, either a version of their sweet and sour sauce or pad Thai sauce. There were strips of BBQ pork mixed in that tasted off (like plastic?). The flat noodles were better but not the same as what I would expect in ordering beef ho fun a Chinese restaurant. We dined in but were informed that even so the food would be served in take out containers. The food came in aluminium round containers with clear plastic lids, but there were no receptacles for recycling. Everything we used went in the garbage :( Lastly, the restaurant sign advertises that there is dim sum on offer. A couple came in after is looking for fun sum and were informed by the hostess that the menu was limited. Indeed, there are five dim sum items on the menu and they are relatively pricey ($4-6). We didnt try this part of the menu, but its too bad that Barrie does not yet have a place that serves dim sum.

The restaurant severely overpriced their product, which is coated in grease and in general has low quality taste. Staff are unfriendly and dont even provide napkins which seem to be essential with their food. Additionally the food served is low quality frozen stuff you can get at any grocery store yourself for a fraction of the cost

10/10 would not recommend. Ordered the General Taos chicken and the Hot spicy chicken. I could hardly tell if there was any chicken ( Hot spicy chicken) because all I tasted was the fried batter, plus it was very hard rather than crispy and chewy. Also, it wasnt spicy which was disappointing. The General Taos chicken was okay.

Ordered tonight on my way home, ordered Cantonese chow noodles, got chop suet, wanted chop sticks got none, wanted soy sauce got none, egg rolls are terrible I think frozen. Took the counter girl 5 minutes to turn around to me and then was a nasty little thing towards me for make her come over to give me my food. Better places out there

I love all the food! Definitely recommend!!!!! This is the best place to buy Chinese food from! Much cheaper than Mandarin and closer as well. No long line ups! Only takes about 20 minutes after you order your food for it to be ready for pickup (depending on how busy they are). Admittedly, the fried rice doesnt have as much flavour as you expect but you can pour their sweet and sour sauce (which comes with other foods) on top and its delicious. Highly recommend this place!

Pretty decent CANADIAN Chinese food. Better than most Chinese food in barrie defiantly order again! 29.10 (orders over 25$ before tax get a free item) Egg roll: usually there under cooked this one was perfect! Fried dumplings: there a bit bland I prefer Asian one on Essa dumplings, but there not bad id still purchase them :) Hot and sour soup: isnt traditional but is more than just egg and tofu over all a great taste Cantonese chow mien: isnt Cantonese they asked if I wanted crispy or soft I always ask for crispy it was soggy so I dono why it mattered lol it was good though Canadian style Sho mai: BOMB soooo good its hard to get good dim sum in barrie this one is amazing and the reason it got 4 stars. Overall Id defiantly order again its a 3 min drive from my house and the general consensus is that its decent food!
