Big chain name but its as least canadian as it gets, pulled pork poutine for example has a thin layer of pork and curds on top and a touch of gravy and the rest is just soggy fries, step up your game like the fry truck in thornton, thats the best place around and there is absolutely no competition with places like this falsly claiming to be the best.

Its not as good as it used to be the cooks who are cooking the food dont seem to know how to do it and every time I eat here I get food poisoning now

I recently visited Smokes Poutinerie at Barrie with a few friends, expecting a great experience given its reputation for poutine. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The fries were nearly black, suggesting the oil hadnt been changed, which made me feel nauseous and gassy later. For such a renowned establishment, I expected better quality control, especially regarding oil regulation.

I would never recommend eating smokes from a food truck during a festival. They bairly give any toppings on a specialty poutine that costs 20$ and the fries are burnt because they arent paying attention.

Potatoes are not washed before being cut and fried - black bits all through it. I was chewing gritty potatoes from dirt on them. Some bad spots on the potatoes must have contributed to the foul taste I would get every once in a while. 5 stars for service but I was the only one in the restaurant. Loud thrashing rock and roll on the speakers - very unsettling. I left after having eaten only a few bites. Over $17 for this trash. Apparently, the food used to be great several years ago but the business underwent a change of ownership. Nowadays the new owners dont wish to continue offering the quality that was once there and clearly dont care about their customers anymore. Sadly I wont be back. Not the kind of business I support. A total turnoff.

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place because I was craving poutine. I used to hear very good things about this place but recently I ve noticed business hasn t been too good but Ofcourse I looked past it because I was hungry. Second we walk in I noticed a terrible smell near the bathrooms which were locked for some reason and the place looks very run down. Garbage left around, sticky tables, the chairs were rickety. On top of that when we were ready to order we realized it was only one worker. He was very friendly but seemed a bit distracted. I ordered the original poutine and my bf ordered something with pulled pork and bacon both regular sized with no sides or drinks the total came up to 32$! Extremely over priced for two small poutines. Took about 20 minutes for our food to be ready even tho there was only one person ahead of us. When we received our food we went home to eat and he said his tasted fine other than the bacon seemed undercooked I immediately thought something was wrong with mine. The fries seemed old and tbh tasted very dry, they were both very salty, the cheese tasted like it had gone bad but we both ate them because we didn t want to waste money. I guess that was a bad idea because not even an hour later my bf started saying he felt sick, later that night when he got home he said he was super nauseous and around the same time so was I I ended up throwing up most the night but luckily he was able to head to bed without being sick But overall I will not be returning to this restaurant. Especially not now after I was informed by my sister in law that she found a dead spider in her food

Do not order from them from skip...youll never get it or your money back. Terrible service, Terrible experience. The drivers did not follow instructions. My driver left my order on the pavement outside my 84 condo unit building downtown, did not buzz me and that was it. Dont bother.

We had to wait over half an hour for our food. All of that waiting only to spend 13 dollars on burnt fries with a little gravy and 4 pieces of cheese. All of the other people who ordered the same thing also got only 4 pieces. I m really angry about the cheese. The cheese is supposed to be the best part. Why only 4 piece :(. The food here is amazing, absolutely delicious. And the service is even better!! It s evident the people working here love what they do based on their positive attitudes and immense kindness. Just stopped in for a quick lunch and will be back!!

I always get pulled pork poutine and to my surprise when I got my order from this location, there was barely meat on it. The gravy was too much and cheese was also lacking. Poutine fail, sorry.

Its not awesome . I have ordered onion rings and poutine, the onion rings are over cooked and poutine too. We have called, messaged them for refund but no reply. We wasted our money.

I ve been to this place twice and the food tasted pretty much good but today I ordered poutine and onion rings online and both were terrible. Poutine was overcooked and onion rings were literally burnt. It was so bitter in taste. Just because we did not go there physically, it doesn t mean you should give us whatever you want. We spent our money which got wasted.

We went there just for a quick birthday meal we ordered a traditional tater tot poutine with extra curds, a pulled pork poutine that he wanted popcorn chicken added to it and boneless wings. There was a single person both taking orders and fulfilling orders which could be the main issue it was a lunch rush I have 0 idea why you had one person during lunch rush. She proceeded to hand out the wrong order to the wrong people and messed up our order she gave extra pulled pork instead of popcorn chicken and I was given something else entirely with jalapeños and some other weird toppings which doesnt sound like traditional to me. This was my first experience with this restaurant and honestly will be my last this was not a great experience and I wouldnt recommend it to others based on this experience.

I had an amazing experience here (31st march, 2023, around 7 pm), customer service was on top, the employees addressed me with a smile, and the food was amazing. The modifications that I asked for in my poutine were done perfectly. This was probably the best experience Ive ever had in a poutinerie.

Went last Saturday, Barrie Smokes. The gravy was almost water. Fries were not crispy.

This place is not nearly as good as it once was. I ordered a WOW size poutine, and the toppings were minimal. Not nearly as generous as before, or the same quality. Theres a deal where you can purchase an additional side for 3.99, which was not honoured. I was charged 5.99 and told its only 3.99 if Im adding the side to the poutine itself... how does that make sense? Nowhere on the screen does it say that. There were people behind me so I didnt bother fighting it. Then I got my side (popcorn chicken) and couldnt believe how small the portion was. Over 32 dollars for poutine, a tiny cup of popcorn chicken (which was supposed to be on sale), and 2 drinks. Totally not worth it. I think thats my last time going here.

i have been soooo excited to try this place for so long and finally did tonight! the customer service we received was fantastic and the poutines were absolutely amazing! i ll definitely be back (100% will be back after the bars on the weekend LOL)

So expensive for such little portions and the little cheese was not even melted. You know it s bad when you have to throw it in the microwave a few times. Sadly this location has been trending in the wrong direction for awhile now. The wait times can be atrocious due to minimal staff, and after you wait you find out your food is barely warm, to say it was cooking would be a lie. Nothing like taking the bus home after work just to find out what you bought for dinner isnt fit for human consumption.

Ordered through skip the dishes. Waited 1hr20min for a single poutine that costed 20$ This was a disgrace, I used to be obsessed with this establishment and I haven t been there in a long time. One individual taking my service, ruined my order after getting home. The owner refuses to replace my order after speaking with him directly on the phone. This place is boycotted by myself and family of the area, and the business owners and residents of Barrie already get idea. This is ruining the businesses downtown Barrie.

Per usual the poutine at Smokes was phenomenal, and the staff was friendly.

The man who prepares the poutine and manages the front counter is a very polite and respectful person. He takes his time preparing the poutine. No nonsense and you get what you pay for.

This is actually one of the worse poutines Ive had in a long time. So disappointed. For the price and portion size. They could do alot better. Fries were drowned in gravy. Literally it looked like soup in the container with that much gravy. Could have used more cheese to balance out the extra gravy. Will definitely not be returning.

For a place that specializes in poutine, it sure was awful the last (and probably final) time I went in a few weeks ago. The fries were dry and burned, and it tasted like theyd used waaaaaay too much seasoning, possibly in an effort to mask the burned taste. The gravy was also runny and flavourless. Youre better off with a cheap pub poutine, if this is the norm for Smokes.

Ordered through Uber eats. Ordered 2 regular poutines, 1 large fried perogie and 1 large popcorn chicken. The poutines were rubbery, from the fries to the cheese curds that weren t even remotely melted. The gravy was salty and tasteless. The portion you receive for popcorn chicken and perogies are not even child sized, however the restaurant feels the need to charge upwards of $10 per side. Will not be ordering/eating here again and will not be encouraging anyone else to do so either. Saw online that they were offering 50% off but after receiving our food we still feel we were overcharged.

We ordered two poutines and sides of peirogies and onion rings bringing the total to 50$. When we opened the poutines there was 3 onion rings on top of the poutine as well as 3 peirogies, we were very disappointed especially because of the price . Not to mention the workers were being very rude, and clearly intoxicated.

This was always our go-to place. Written great reviews before. The last few times we ve eaten there has been disappointing. The boxes are smaller, and he fries aren t fully cooked and over salted and they hardly give you cheese. Plus prices have gone way up too. #BringBackTheOldSmokes

I have ordered from smokes countless times and always received a fork without asking for one in the skip app. Tonight i received no fork and called to inquire and the employee working tonight april 9 around 11pm was very rude and didnt care.

There was a guy working there. I guess his name is Kunal. He was very polite and kind to ask whatever modifications I needed for my Poutinerie. The portions he prepared were huge and delicious. I suggest if you ever get a chance to visit barrie then buy their Poutinerie (one of the best Ive ever had) and eat it while sitting at barrie lake.

The most astronomically overpriced poutine I ve ever had. Paid $19 for a large poutine that would be a medium and $7 at any chip truck. On top of that, chip truck fries are WAY fresher. The fries here were grainy like the frozen fries you heat up in the oven. Please don t waste your money here, I sure won t be again

First time so I asked if the gravy was made from scratch or a mix. The staff member didnt understand. Said they had chicken or beef. I said I had allergies and thats why I was asking. Said everything was fried together. Gave up. Ordered perogies no bacon. Got them with bacon. Took them back. Same ones, no longer crispy from the fryer. Now soggy like the bacon was washed off. And plain potato perogies, no cheese. I should have asked but Im sure he wouldnt understand.

Hadnt gone in over a year due to poor quality food and service, thought Id give it another change and once again I was disappointed. They were out of most of the toppings, the fries were half frozen and soggy and the gravy was off tasting, all just as before.

They serve delicious Poutines in a different flavor. Being a vegetarian, I selected the veggie deluxe. It had loads of caramelized onions, mushrooms and green peas. Kudos to the team for maintaining excellent food service all around.

Got charged $16 for a large traditional poutine. The medium was $8.49, might as well have gotten 2 mediums. Way too much gravy so the fries were soggy. Not enough cheese curds for the size of poutine. Would not recommend. Will not go back.

Poutine was not as expected. I went last weekend with my friends and we ordered 2 poutines- classic and nachos. We wanted to use washroom so badly at that time. When we asked the person who was working that day he said it s closed. My question is we are your customers, we are ordering food how come you did not have key to open the washroom??? Dine in is closed that does not mean you keep washrooms closed as well. Owner of that store- I hope you are reading!!

Awful. I ordered the WOW size buffalo poutine and it was just terrible. Chicken was soggy, curds were rubbery, fries were subpar. Could order some better fries at wendys or McDonald s. Overall, the taste was halfway decent but the buffalo sauce overpowered everything else most of the time. If you re looking for a good poutinery, this isn t it. Keep looking.

I was in Barrie this weekend and was on a tight schedule and stopped by to try the poutine. The portions are huge, and I couldnt finish it all right away. I highly recommend their Philly Cheesesteak!

Veryyy Good poutines, massive menu with lots of options and such an amazing cashier.

We came here. We ordered. We devoured. Now, if your looking to feel good about yourself and staying in your calorie.. whatever you people call it... Wrong place. But if you want pure unadulterated comfort food because a) you drank to much. B) you had to deal with your drunk friends all night. Or c) [my personal favorite] you just want to enjoy everything because someone might run you down at the five points; walk in to smokes, order a double pork poutine and some fried cheese curds. Make sure to burn your mouth on the first one to develop a minor callous. Then you can consume without hesitation.

We had a wonderful time here. The place has got a cool vibe. The poutines were large and tasted delicious! Their chef knows the art of making lip-smacking poutine. I am coming back to try more dishes.

We had the worst poutines from here last night. Very dry, with little gravy. There were very little curds as well, even when 2 orders with extra curds. You used to have the best poutines, but not any more! Very disappointed!

Sad. When we arrived there was no one behind the counter, we yelled hello to see if anyone was there, a employee came from the back to serve us. After taking our order, without washing their hands at any point or wearing gloves, or a face mask, they made our two poutines. Turns out they were out of 50% of the stuff in both of our orders and put extra sauce on them, which would have been fine if the sauces werent clumpy and off, especially the gravy it was still gelatines and the fries were still frozen in the middle when we got them. Overall this use to be one of our favorite places to go, i think over the past 2 summers the cleanliness, management/ staff and supply has been really off... could just be every time i go, but it didnt use to be this way.

We visited here last week and ordered a veggie poutine with fried cauliflower, sriracha and buffalo ranch. The cauliflower was yummy, but the rest of it was horrible. meh, ordered a wow size Korean poutine for $20. Not really worth it imo, its chinese hotsauce on some thin steak slices drenched in sauce. Smokes is okay for a quick craving fix of poutine but cant really justify it for that price. I got booted out for not having a mask initially which was understandable, I did forget it in the car. I returned with a mask on but the irony is that hes serving me without a mask on as well.
