I dont like how the worker with pimples was flirting with my girlfriend even after the worker was told by my girlfriend that she was not single and still referred me as the friend. The worker was still flirting with my girlfriend until she left. Its very disappointing and disrespectful to me and my girlfriend.

Fast service, delicious food with fresh ingredients! My top choice in the area for sandwiches.

The sauce isnt the best. Tastes like tomato soup to me. The original location in Toronto has different sauce .

Take the trip to Toronto. Whatever this is, its not California standards. Still edible if it were the only option but would rather get the real thing.

This location decides to take breaks and closes for weeks at a time. Also, as other reviewers have said, they use a cheaper cheese than other locations that is shredded and not melted. They also dont prepare the sausage the same way as other locations, kind of strange..

The owner/ manager guy of this place is so weird, what s with randomly shutting down, the weird hours? The overpriced sandwiches, the crazy prices to add toppings. This place is going to go downhill fast with how it s being managed.

Came here for a veal with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and rappini. First of all, the sandwich, like always, is huge. After eating eating it (yes, I couldnt help but to eat it all) I was definitely full and ready to nap, lol. Would recommend for a great sandwich.

Horrible service. Never have the side of meat. 3 of them just standing there behind counter. And charged .82 to have buns on he side which were in tin foil

Its a California sandwiches location. Great veal sandwich and good service.

The food here is ok but i find it pretty expensive. My husband had the veal sandwich with the works and I had the meatball sandwich with mushroom. The tomato sauce used in these sandwiches ate very acidic. The bread was not the freshest but I think thats because we came close to closing. The meatball are mushy and you can only taste the tomato sauce, so its not very flavourful. Our meal (2 sandwichs and 2 cans of pop) was $60+ . This location is small and wasnt very clean but once again it might be because it was the end of their day so they werent cleaning until close.

I ordered the Veal Sandwich x hot. I added sweet peppers and onions. The toppings were pretty good. The veal was a bit dry with little flavour and served in a generic bun. The service was mildly disinterested at the cash, however the lady bagging my food was friendly enough. The environment was ok. Very neutral. One tv wasn t working and the cash and debit machine wasn t working.

Absolutely disappointing! Closed before their posted time. Saturday night and they closed the doors @5:50pm. So brutal. Terrible customer service on the phone!

I gave this place a great review at the start, now a year later all I can say is damn the quality went down. Not just one occasion but 3 times now cold veal, cold sauce and cheese still hard not melted. When the owner was there it was great, now the service has gone waaaaay down. If you havent been to California Sandwiches yet, you need to go right now. Arguably the best Italian sandwiches you will find in the GTA. I would highly recommend the spicy veal, and all the side dishes are great. Service is quick and friendly making it an easy choice to stop in for lunch even on a busy work day. All locations I have visited are all great choices and offer the same great food and service. Highly recommended! Parking: Large lot that services the entire plaza. Today I went to California sandwiches. Can I order 2 song which is in a specific? I asked to the owner can you cut them in half please? I yes please 2 times. Is he ignoring me? And when I got. Home? This song which was not cut. Thats a lousy customer service. Thats why I write you to How was Willie upset? I assume 2 times please? Can you cut them in A? Tucson witches about it for my kids. And he. His left disturbed. To change some $20 besides the business. I think its needed to do better. This is not the first time. Customer whos the lawyer and by giving business. I would think The Times before I go back that again. Little-by-little his boots in my business. I would think The Times be alcohol back there to purchase anything from him. Because he put away a lousy customer service.

Chicken sandwich was excellent but I didn t like the steak sandwich. Customer service was great but we waited 25 min at this location for 3 sandwiches. Normally in Vaughan it s like 5 min.

Good food with decent portion sizes. Clean dining area with limited decor. Missed opportunity to upsell, was never asked what size for my sides and assumed smalls. Another customer wanted a particular item but when told they did not have takeout boxes to package the item, they never suggested another item and lost a potential sale. Staff were gossiping about another coworker who seemed to be in distress outside, making the atmosphere a little uncomfortable.

californias - amazing veals and chicken Sammies. This is a new spot in Barrie and my first time to it - but it s not as nice as some of the other locations - smaller and undergoing some interior work by the look of it. I Normally hit the OG location in Toronto but thought I d do this one. Ordered the Veal XHot / Provolone and olives. Made fresh in front of me and was excellent - even near closing time. If you like big sandwiches - California s is a classic spot.

The only place to go for great Italian sandwiches in Barrie. Went to the original Toronto location as a teenager in the late 70 s, this place does not disappoint. Come hungry.

Went in today and they were cash only, so I went and got some cash came back and ordered a veal sandwich. Only to be told they have no veal today.

DONT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE! You hungry? Good! This place, without a word of a lie, gives you a 1lb sandwich! Its amazing they can even turn a profit with their portion size. I am beyond impressed. And they didnt skimp on the quality either. Each sandwich is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait 10-15mins but holy cow is it ever worth it! 6/5 Stars for Cali Sandwich! Ps I got medium spice, its comfortably spicy and I am a spice freak. So I shudder to think what extra spicy would be. Just do yourself a favour and get sweet if you dont have a high spice tolerance

I order for pickup and its always ready and fresh for pickup when I get there. My only wish is they were open on Sundays! 630 PM on a Saturday Feb 3 2024. Girl answers the phone can I put you on a quick hold 7mins. Takes my order 4 4 hot meals. Then as I am driving there calls back 14 mins later to say we have no vealnor chicken left. Time for a new manager I would think.

Huge sandwich, tastes great

Two months ago my brother took me to lunch at California sandwiches and I enjoyed my lunch. Last night I thought that I would take my husband for a Sandwich after some shopping. What a disaster, the veal sandwiches were sloppy, tasteless and horribly done. We were there approx. 6:15 and spend 40.00 dollars what a waste of time and money. All night my husband complained of stomach problems and I was running to the bathroom.

Good sandwich but expensive.

Never been here before, got a medium meatball with cheese and mushrooms. The bun was tough, the meatball had no texture and was like eating mush. My partner got the chicken sandwich, the bun was soggy from the amount of sauce. And their onion rings had little to no flavour. Neither of us finished our food, Will not be going back

Best spot for a delicious Veal sandwich

This location was not up to par with the other locations Ive been to. This is my second time here, the first time they were almost out of everything. This time I got two eggplant sandwiches, there were only two toppings available mushrooms and jalapenos, I said no cheese but they gave me cheese on both. I will not be returning to this location

Ordered some catering from this location, placed my order within 5 days of pickup. Half tray of meat lasagna and a tray of veal and chicken for sandwiches. Frankie and the team took amazing care of me, communication was excellent and I received exactly what I ordered (and then some!) We especially loved the fresh buns on the side, and the sauce on the side to avoid things getting soggy in the trays. The lasagna had a wonderful taste and there were lots of leftovers brought home from the weekend. Fantastic experience start to finish and highly recommend for your catering needs!!

Veal sandwiches were not what we expected compared to other California Sandwiches locations. Soggy bread, small pieces of veal, sauce tasted bad, and cold. And we dined in so there s no excuse for cold food.

Huge veil sandwich very tender meat, bread is soft, very filling but not too heavy on the tummy - long story short, perfect. Match it with pickled olives with peppers, so good.

It appears they are using a different vendor for the veal. When they first opened was really good, the last couple of visits the veal was very tough and chewy

A group of us went up to Barrie for the weekend and decided to stop at California Sandwiches. We heard they make exceptional sandwiches. All of us were absolutely not disappointed. We can t wait for our next trip to visit California sandwiches again. Congratulations. Keep up the good work!

Great menu with lots of variety!

Simply the best veal sandwich period. (the others are excellent too). They have the best sauce hands down. I used to go to the location on Claremont from 1984 to 1992. We could see into the kitchen and there would be a big pot of sauce and I believe it was the grandmother putting her experience and love into that sauce. Nostalgia and great food at the same time. Sounds like heaven.

This place is a trainwreck, the owner himself puts bleach in the dishes, rinses unused chicken, and keeps rotted food in all the fridges. No food items are dated, he says to smell test it. So even if the chicken is grey it doesnt matter, he will force his employees to serve it. I got extremely sick working at this location, because of health protocols not being taken seriously at all. Theres so much more wrong with this place but those are the health concerns. If any health inspector has ever been there, idk how its still open. Kid-friendliness: Please dont let children eat here. I dont want anybody to feel as sick as I did.

Best sandwiches in the world!

So this is not about foood. Its good. They have no hst # on reciept. If you are a business owner and eat there. Pray you dont get hst auddited. You cant claim the hst. I tried calling to get there HST # said they would call back. No reply. Called 3 or 4 times. No luck Cant get in touch with corporate. No phone # on website. Tried emailing 3 times. Crickets. So they charge 13% and cant give hst. Friend was in after and asked for. They couldnt produce it. This is tax fraud. So ask for fun when you go in!! You are paying 13% extra!!!!

Wow have times changed. The last veal sandwich was from the California on Queensway in 2015. The Barrie location makes a good size sandwich for 12 bucks, sure. But then they really skin you on the toppings ! Mushrooms way overpriced, onions way overpriced, peppers way overpriced. 1.74 for a can of pop ! Veal sandwich with above and pop $20.85 ! The veal itself is tender but to be honest pretty bland without any sauce. The sauce itself is average with a faint tomato taste. The mushrooms are just ok as are the onions and peppers. Overall filling but with little flavour to speak of. This is a try it once place, wait a year, then go back. At the end of the day the price does not reflect flavour.

Compared to the locations in the GTA you get way less veal now. Ive been eating sandwiches here for the past 10 months and it has been slowly getting thinner.

Checked this place out for the first time! Very disappointed! Way over priced for what you get! 2 sandwiches almost $40!!! Toppings ridiculously expensive! Was expecting a large panini bun, but instead it was a round soggy Kaiser bun? Overall sandwich lacked flavour! Fire house subs much better sandwiches and value for your money with no extra charge for toppings!

This place is certainly improving but the Chesswood location is still significantly better imo. The buns they use here are much more stale and therefore harder to bite into which makes a mess with the toppings spilling out much more. The Chesswood location has nice soft buns and every bit is a delight. That nitpick aside, they are finally improving with not skimking on toppings and size of the sandwiches.

Very disorganized. Ordered food within 4 minutes of arriving, then waited for over 20 minutes to have the order filled. And it was not that busy. 6 people running around behind the counter and no ones order came out for 10 minutes or more. They had lots of veal and chicken made up, so not sure what the hold up was? Also the guy cooking the meat was not wearing any gloves, was touching the meats with bare hands and was cros contaminating from chicken to veal to beef. I will never eat there again for fear of food poisoning and waited way to long to ha e my order filled.

Food is great but as others have said bread is hit and miss, been a few times but decided to leave a review after waitng over 25 minutes for a steak sandwich. I love coming here on lunch break but with that wait it makes it challenging.

Been to quite a few California sandwiches. Cost seventy dollars and theyre was hardly any veal on it. Ask for some sweet heat there was nothing. The guy behind the cash register seemed like he was stoned. The people making the sandwiches were not friendly. In Toronto and ashoha, you can hardly get your mouth around the Sandwich for so much meat. Ask her extra hot sauce on the side and I got tomato sauce..

there is no place that I know of that consistently makes such tender and juicy veal sandwiches I only order mushrooms on mine that way I only need a handful of napkins due to how juicy these sangwhiches are you wont be disappointed

We took a detour from Wasaga Beach to come here, it did not disappoint! It was excellent. The veal was tender, the meatball sandwich also was excellent. Very fresh. I highly recommend.

Not usually critical and understand the challenge of finding & keeping good employees. After frequenting the Woodbridge location for about a year, this location is a huge disappointment...The sandwiches have noticeably less meat and watching the staff do their job is depressing...I sympathize with the owners due to the lack of good help but there are a few deficiencies at this location which need to be addressed. Ill never go back. But wish you the best

This one is just as good as the first one on Claremont even the owner walks around like he owns the place it has the old school charm. He will own a rolex one day soon . Thanks for the olives . I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, so getting sandwiches from the local bakeries or restaurants was a normal thing. Back then, our regulars spots couldnt be beat! Until they were, when California Sandwiches came to town! So damn good, no matter the location Yes, a bit pricey, but I never feel ripped off when I walk away. I feel; satisfied, full, fluffy, fabulous and I look forward to the next time they take my money!

Do yourself a favour, stick to the Toronto locations to avoid disappointment. The sandwiches are very small, the sauce - I am not sure but it s not the same. Also I understand staffing is difficult but it was not busy - we ordered and were charged for cheese - but I guess it was missed? I don t recommend this location (Barrie) The two locations we frequent are Etobicoke and York Mills.

Just dont order from Uber Eats, as the restaurant wont help you at all. Ordered twice and both orders were delivered to the incorrect address. $83 was charged to my credit card and no one seems to be able to help, nor give me a refund. Sad, as their food isnt too bad for Barrie

First time trying California sandwiches after people telling me they are amazing. We came in and the place is very small, mostly a take out place. Very busy at Lunch time with people constantly coming in to do pickup. There are 3 tables available to sit down. We ordered a chicken sandwich with onions and cheese and a steak & cheese sandwich with fries and one drink. It was $40. Now the sandwiches were actually quite large, I could only eat half of mine in one sitting. My husband ate his no problem. They were fresh and hot. I can see why people really enjoy these, but for me it was too much. I won t come back, but my husband loved it!

My family and I recently moved to Barrie and just visited this restaurant. The veal and steak sandwiches were sooo delicious! Will be returning!

Food is always excellent and service is great. Just never enough seating.
