Just moved to Barrie and looking for some good Italian food. Called 5x to book a reservation, restaurant lets it ring until it goes to voicemail. Will go to other Italian restaurants downtown if they dont want my business. Edit: Too busy to answer the phone, but can review phone records and reply to a 1-star review in real time. PS no one listens to voicemail.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Il Buco Ristorante in Barrie, and it was nothing short of exceptional. The lunch menu was fantastic, offering a variety of flavorful dishes that were perfectly prepared. Every bite was a testament to the chefs skill and attention to detail. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the spectacular service. Our server was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Their knowledge of the menu and genuine enthusiasm added a personal touch that made the meal even more enjoyable. Parking: This is Barrie paid parking but rates werent too bad.

If you seek freshly prepared, tasty food and awesome sauces with a view of the downtown waterfront, this is The Place!

First time visiting Il Buco this week and we were there at lunch time. The lunch menu had a set 3 course meal from which you could pick soup or salad, an entree, and a dessert of ice cream or tiramisu (extra $3), or you could order from the a la carte menu. We chose the set meal, and also had a glass of wine each. I need gluten free so I ordered a goat cheese salad which was delicious, and the pork scallopini, with no breading on the pork, and gluten free pasta. The entree was really good, but I did find the portion a little small. My husband had soup of the day, which was cream of mushroom, the same entree as me but with regular pasta, and the tiramisu for dessert which he said was the best hes ever had. Overall it was a really nice lunch and wine, but was quite expensive so we would probably only go again for a special occasion. Service was great and the server was very helpful in explaining what gluten free options I could have. You have to pay to park in the municipal lot behind the restaurant, but you can access the restaurant via a back door, so its very convenient.

Had an incredible dinner here with my husband. We ordered the lasagna and shrimp fettuccine and both were to die for. You also have to order the cheesecake while youre there - its heavenly! Overall, great experience and great food

Visited them most recently on a busy Saturday for a special occasion yet they took such great care of us and the food was outstanding as always. I hope to be back soon!!!

I come here once a year and am never left disappointed. Il Bucos staff are always very personable and make you feel important. The food is always amazing, not to mention the Beef Carpaccio (Delicious 10/10 would recommend), If your looking for a romantic Italian dine in experience this is the place to go in Barrie.

Wonderful lunch for the family. (4ppl) Every dish was great. My Chicken Parmesagn was one of the best ive had. Not salty like many others. Great flavor. Service was excellent. And the house red was wonderful too. All round fantastic. Will be back. (Note...park and enter the Dunlop St way to avoid getting a nose full of urine smell. It didnt ruin the great meal, just a sad commentary on Barrie)

My wife and I just had our wedding reception and the meals were incredible, service was the best Ive had at a restaurant in a very long time and they made the day very special for us. I would recommend anyone having a special event use Il Buco. They were easy for us, made some menu changes for us and gave us a semi-private area while other diners were at the restaurant. Did I mention the food was amazing?

Me and my wife had our 10th Anniversary dinner here, a friends recommendation brought us here and we were pleasantly surprised.

My favourite spot in Barrie! Jenn is a phenomenal server and the experience is always fun and seamless.

I would say this is the best restaurant in Barrie. Its a great place if you want good food and family friendly atmosphere. Their patio has a great view of the waterfront during the summer season.

Food was alright, however the portions and the price are ludacris. The washrooms were a slip and slide and the glassware was dusty.

Excellent food, quick service and beautiful ambiance. Jahmal served us and he was fantastic to say the least. Highly recommend for those looking for a good quality Italian restaurant at a reasonable price. We ordered the branzino, red snapper, caprese salad, seafood risotto and a delicious garlic dish that I do not remember the name of. 10/10 would recommend.

We celebrated my birthday at Il Buco, and the staff exceeded all expectations. The food was delicious, and the restaurant catered to our dietary preferences seamlessly. Our waitress, who happened to be an opera singer, brought out a delightful tiramisu with a candle for me to make a wish and sang Happy Birthday beautifully. When we encountered some car safety issues, the restaurant staff went above and beyond to help us find the tools we needed to get home safely. For a great atmosphere, delicious food with a lake view, I highly recommend Il Buco.

Was thinking to go here but then read With Bacon and Reggiano cheese in a rose sauce for their penne a la vodka Lol this place is Def not italian, its American. No italian would use bacon. Tip to the owner. Maybe start using proper imported products ans making in house pasta. And please use guanciale. You put shame to your resturant by even having bacon on the menu Update cuz owner responded. Seems like they got offended that we criticized them for using bacon, I guess the restaurant seems to be hanging on a thread for its reputation, since they dont just take a review to improve. Overall they say use pancetta instead of guanciale, which is kinds funny since I dont think they would be saying this if they where from Italy. Pancetta is better than nothing but if they are recommending that over guanciale then they never actually had good pasta before. They are probably a overly expensive scattabush. Also for their prices pasta isnt even made in house and I would be surprised if they use sans marzano tomatos with a D.O.P label. Do you even have buffalo mozzarella. Is it even made with water buffelo milk. Again this seems like a simple scattabush that is a rip of an American restaurant. Overly expensive for Low Quality food

I love the food. I have never had a bad meal no matter what I have ordered. The servers are great, be attentive. The patio is the best in Barrie with view of the lake. Would highly recommend Parking: Free parking after 5 pm

Johnny, our server, made our lunch a fantastic experience. From suggesting a good red wine to offering some of the best service I ve seen, he deserves huge praise! He has worked there for 11 years and won t hesitate to offer his expertise regarding the menu. We had the lasagna and the spinach/ricotta ravioli with blush sauce both were amazing! We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the view of Lake Simcoe. A beautiful summer day. Two thumbs up for Il Buco. Highly recommended.

Went for lunch with a friend. Our server Angelique was great. The food was very good, I had the 3 course lunch special. I needed gluten free pasta and found the upcharge a bit high, I also wanted the soup but it was gluten based and had a beet salad instead however the extra $4 seemed a bit too much, $23.95 for the 3 courses started out as a good deal but with the extras it really added up. Atleast half of the items in the first course all had an extra charge. Perhaps have different priced lunch specials that dont have up charges.

My partner and I had a delightful first experience here during our date night. The portion sizes were just right. Our selections included steamed mussels, seafood risotto, mushroom pappardelle, and pollo florentina. The mussels and accompanying sauce were impeccably prepared, and the mushroom pappardelle received no complaints. The chicken was notably juicy. While the seafood in the risotto was fresh, the risotto itself could have benefited from a reduced amount of salt. We cannot wait to go back and try out the rest of the pasta dishes.

We had the pleasure of being served by the marvelous Merv last night. We have followed her throughout her time here in Barrie. Last night the food was so delicious and the service was impeccable. We will be back.

I would like to say this service was absolutely to the top level. The food portion was also good. We really liked the pasta of the day(white sauce) and the server suggested few dishes and everything turned out to be awesome. We ordered 5 dishes for 4 adults and 3 kids. Will definitely recommend this place to all.

A visit to IL Buco with colleagues for business and the restaurant did not disappoint. The marsala chicken was cooked to perfection and the seasonal vegetables well prepared. Fresh buns to start and we skipped the dessert options. We enjoyed the air conditioned dining room but they also have a patio with lake view. If you are in town and looking for some options, give this a try. Enjoy!

If you have high expectations with food & service .look no further. This is your new favourite restaurant. THE FOOD - every bite was better than the last. We had the steak special (ribeye) cooked to absolute perfection. And we also had the pappardelle in in oyster cream sauce with mushrooms. OMGGGG! THE SERVICE - We had Allie. What a darling. We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner this past Tuesday and it was required. Il Buco is a busy restaurant from 5:30 on. The service was really good. As the restaurant became busier we did not receive as much attention because the server was very busy. She did continually stop by to fill our water. However, I would have likely ordered more alcohol if she had more time to check in with her natural engaging nature. The kitchen staff did an amazing job considering the amount of people they were preparing dishes for and the size of their kitchen. We ordered Garlic Shrimp, Roasted Garlic and Goat Cheese, Lasagna, Stuffed Ravioli, and Rib Eye Steak. The garlic shrimp was good for a simple dish. The garlic in the goatcheese dip was a little overcooked. Likely because they reheat it. It is best made fresh but requires 40 plus minutes to do so. I think the Roasted Garlic and Goat cheese would be more appetizing if they combined the roasted garlic with the goat cheese, parmesan, herbs and garnished with fresh roasted veggies instead of the current serving. I found the Lasagna which is one of the few dishes they make the pasta from scratch in house nice. It was your average comfort food without any surprises or dramatic flavours. The Stuffed Ravioli is not made in house was served luke warm which may be the intended temperature. We enjoyed it, but the sausage was similar to the lasagna. Comforting and simple The Rib Eye was cooked to perfection. It was tender and melted in my mouth. The side roast vegetables were lovely and fresh. If I was looking for red meat and had to choose between the Keg and Il Buco the decision would be simple. The Keg no longer provides quality meat with flavour. If you are looking for a meal that is comforting without any surpises with great service I would highly recommend I Buco. We will likely return. Unfortunately we left our leftover portions behind.

For the price of a plate, the portions are very small. Its ok to charge what they do but the size should be worth it. Im italian myself and its culture to have a good size plate. You should leave the resturant full.... (Edited..it was $17.00 for a tiny Cesar salad) I almost spit out my drink when it came to the table..salad is not expensive and 17 dollars was almost the cost of my pasta that had cheeses and eggplant. I can understand the price for the pasta. But a simple salad was wild.

The atmosphere is chill and the food is amazing but even better is the desserts you have to try the tartufo. Parking: There is a good amount of parking at the back of the building and some down the street.

Corrie was beautiful and Amazing and contributed to me having the best 40th birthday I could have ever imagined. All on her first day back from mat leave. Corrie, you are the best.

Food was good, service one of the worst ever, hard to catch server, order veal chops rare, before placing order confirmed with server if the kitchen know they business with meat, after an hour of waiting got well done veal chops, server never came by to check if the rest of food was good, the only thing she did she offered some pepper and Parmesan. After we payed our bill, didn t hear not even good word from her like have a nice evening or something similar what you telling to people, or at least thank you for coming, seems like she don t care if people with not the most pleasant experience will ever came back to this place.

They were so nice there. I was unsure of what to eat. And they had a new fish that I was unsure of. I tried it, and it was just okay. The fish itself was accent, but some fish. I dont like it. Whats 0 criticism of the fish? Just personal profits. But even though I had ordered it, they came changed for the veal. I was really surprised. I didnt even ask. They asked me how the fish was. And I said it was okay. And they offered to switch it out, so I did. My friend who brought me here. Whats not with me, or she would have eaten it. She absolutely loves fish the brazino? But I took a chance on something I did not know. And it did not turn out to be what I wanted and without a hesitation. They changed my dish, no charge. Celebrated my birthday last night with family from London, Guelph, Oshawa and Toronto. The waitress was excellent. Everyone thought the food, atmosphere and service was excellent. Cant say enough good things about this restaurant. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended

This restaurant is a Barrie staple. The atmosphere was great and the service was very good. Two of my friends order the chicken parm. The entrées were VERY different. One was amazing and the other was HORRIBLE. The plate was literally filled with bread crumbs. It was awful. There is nothing worse than the kitchen not sending out entrées that are not made with the same attention.

Food was incredible. Our server Jamal went the extra mile, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He really made the experience fantastic! Did not disappoint. Will definitely be returning!

Three ladies out for dinner and treated ourselves to this gem. I doubt you could have anything but an excellent meal here no matter what you chose. Our waiter, Russell, was the best waiter I have encountered in a long time that has included some very nice restaurants. He was entertaining and knowledgeable about the food when we had questions. We will be back!

We love going to Il Buco. It was the restaurant we first went to when moving to Barrie, and always have a pleasant experience when we dine here. Jahmal is easily one of the best servers in the industry. He is extremely personable and makes the experience fun regardless of the occassion. We know well be back very soon.

Went here to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. I made a reservation and also requested for a little dessert tray but unfortunately that didnt happen. Overall, the appetizers and the creme brulee was a hit. Very flavourful and rich! Our waiter was friendly, but they seemed very busy, so it took a long time to request for things. It was pretty busy I guess, service was extremely slow on a Friday. The pasta dishes were okay, could be better. Overall, not too bad, it was my first time here.

Looked up Italian Restaurants in Barrie. Saw that this restaurant was highly reviewed so took a chance. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere was very Italian and quaint. The service was extremely friendly and recommended a very affordable and delicious bottle of wine. Food was fantastic. We had two of the several specials veal chop with mushrooms and Spinach stuffed raviolis with mushrooms. The portions were large, perfectly cooked and executed. We were very pleased with the entire experience. We will be back in the future!

Il Buco had some great food, but what really nailed this 5 stars (and will make sure we come back) was Jamals 11 out of 10 service. What an amazing person. I wish every future patron can experience the level of service and personalization he brought to the visit.

One of my favorite Italian places in Simcoe County. Lovely atmosphere with great service and suggestions offered by the staff. Ask for a reservation if you decide to go on Friday or Saturday evening. There are about 4 high-top tables reserved for walk-ins if the dining room is full. A must have : Enricos Famous Garlic as an appetizer and Parpadelle Funghi E Tartufo as a main.

After having been to Il Buco well over twenty times, I thought it was time to write a fresh review. What a way to end 2023, New Years Eve dinner at Il Buco. The food and portion size was excellent as usual. The service was excellent considering how busy it was. They kept us informed of how long things were going to take.

2024: 4.5/5 - Went in a group, shared the food with others so tried quite a few things...seafood entrees and appetizers were great, desserts (Tiramisu, IceCream) were awesome, drinks were nice, service and atmosphere was perfect, only issue was the risotto, WAY too salty...a shame cause otherwise would have given a 5...wished I could 4.5 stars as that is really what the place earned as such a great restaurant, just unable to rate it 5 for that oversight, besides that though, GREAT FOOD OVERALL!

We had a lovely dinner! The patio had a great view on a beautiful evening. The drinks were great, apps and mains! And of course the chocolate cake. It was also surprisingly reasonable given the quality of food :) The service was good as well. Would definitely return. Think laid back, non chain restaurant, good seafood vibes.

Incredibly delicious food. Great location, but quite squishy (I like bigger tables and more room between them). Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Restaurant is decent, though there was quite a bit of dust on the fixtures/wall decor and duct tape around the window we were seated at. Not sure if we would eat at the restaurant again but we will absolutely be ordering take out.

We had a reservation for 2. We ordered the Lemon Garlic Shrimp, Shrimp Fettucine, and the Spaghetti Mare. The food came out quick, tasted amazing. Server was awesome. We ate on the balcony as it was nice out. Would visit again! Parking: Free after 5pm

A great first experience here.

A fun restaurant overlooking the water. Our server Jamal was just great. Tasty food, good drinks, nice vibe. Overall a great little restaurant. I hope they keep the pappardelle mushroom dish always. It was 5/5 delicious.

We came here around late afternoon and it was pretty dead. I ve heard they do live music well but haven t been here for that yet. The beef carpaccio and steamed muscles in sauce were amazing will definitely come back to try more. Food

Server Jahmal was by far one of the best I have ever experienced, from his knowledge of the menu and ingredients, to his fun humour! He didnt rush us and let us enjoy the wine and menu as it was our first time trying here. The food was mouthwatering, breathtaking, and flavourful, everyone should ask for Jahmal as their server!

Good Italian

I don t normally leave reviews for restaurants but this place was amazing! The food, service, and atmosphere was perfect. My boyfriend and I ordered the caesar salad, mussels, gnocchi, penne alla vodka, and the tiramisu. Everything tasted like authentic Italian food and was fresh. Would definitely recommend stopping by here if you are in downtown Barrie.

Food was so good! Excellent service. A little expensive, but it was worth the price.

I took my wife here for her birthday. The food was good and tasty. Overall it was a good experience. I had requested a small cake/cupcake in my reservation, but never received it. Although there were couple of other groups who got a birthday surprise. I was a bit disappointed, but would recommend this place for the food.

The staff went above and beyond for our parents 60th anniversary dinner and the food was incredible!

Delicious!! We also recommended this location to a couple visiting from Sherbrooke. They loved it also.

The food was great. I had their veal for dinner gorgeous taste fabulous presentation. The atmosphere was nice, especially in summer you can sit outside in the patio. Unfortunately you can t book patio tables, it uses first come first serve basis system. The waiter was helpful in introducing specials menus. I will definitely return to try other menus.

Had a wonderful birthday lunch on the patio and Sophie was an awesome server full of kindness, humour and skill. We so appreciated our beautiful lunch and look forward to coming again.

Great restaurant near the Barrie waterfront. They have a nice patio out the front where you can view the water with nice lights they turn on later in the evening. The parking situation is crazy though. There are not enough spots and you have to pay almost everywhere in downtown Barrie. Il Buco is usually packed also, so definitely make a reservation ahead of time. If you do go, make sure to try the Enrico s Famous Roasted Garlic dish, it s so good. Although I do wish they would add a little bit more bread as the amount they give you isn t enough, unless you double dip.

Amazing food and atmosphere

Heard lots about this restaurant, finally made a reservation to try it out. We started with the roasted garlic appetizer and ordered from their specials menu. I went with the manicotti with broccoli and bacon, my friend got the orecchiette with rapini and sausage. Both came in huge portions and everything was extremely flavourful. The restaurant also has a nice wine selection, we enjoyed the J Lohr Seven Oaks Cab Sauv and finished the evening with the raspberry tartufo. Overall it was an amazing experience, the restaurant definitely lives up to its reputation - everything we had exceeded our expectations, excited to go back and continue to explore the menu!

Once again did not disappoint:) (Tuesday August 29th, 2023) Our visit started perfectly with Jamal our server (with an anniversary wish) Our meals were outstanding... From presentation to taste to helping size. We started with our Fave the roasted garlic and continued with mains of shimp alfredo and the spagetti mare (seafood dish) AMAZING is an understatment to say the least. But have to say Jamal is exceptional at customer service - welcoming, informative n just oh so kind. Service was good, however, my pasta was quite watery. We were there due to it s convenient location in the centre of town, otherwise I wouldn t go out of my way for it. Wheelchair accessibility: I had to walk up stairs so probably not the most accessible place.

Good quality pasta made in house. I compare it to some places in the GTA and Montreal where Ive dined. Overall a nice place for a small city.

Good food with amazing prices. The singing waiter made the experience even more enjoyable 14/9/23. Been awhile since weve been and weve missed it. Great pasta, great service and good pricing

Portions were great size, Caesar salad was delicious, and dessert was yummy!

We dined at this restaurant this afternoon, and I must say the ambiance was fantastic. The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere and great lake view that made the meal quite enjoyable. However, were a bit disappointed with the food as it was overly salty.

Meh, Not the worst, but definitely wasnt anything to write home about. Creams, and truffle oil kinda pasta, (iykyk). Nothing creative. Lack of seasoning Pretty sure the ceaser salad used Renees dressing. Definitely wasnt made from scratch, so its not really that kind of restaurant. Maybe it was, but it was suspect. Very 90s style restaurant. Actually nice wide, spread out seating, which you dont really see anymore. Service was fine, but they charged for extra bread, which was tacky. I dunno, its Barrie, people are happy if its not KraftDinner its seems..

Second time here and it was great. The good was outstanding and the service was just as amazing. Thank you Ash. We dont get out much and this was just what we needed. She was so friendly and quick with our drinks. Must be the best Chef around because the flavours were great.

There for a party. Set menu. I understand the concept but . There was nothing on the set party menu I liked. So food was mediocre. But the staff was phenomenal. Best service

Appetizer of grilled calamri and shrimp was good but the blackened salmon was dry and only slightly warm. Vegetables with the fish were cold.

Best dining experience in Barrie! Food is always incredible, and Russell and all the other staff are incredibly caring!
