My brother and I went here because another restaurant was too busy. This place is a hidden gem. Great food, friendly, attentive service and a fun atmosphere. Definitely will be back. I hear on Wednesday you can get "all you can eat". Fun but my plate was already a lot of food.
First time. Food was good. It just seemed the plates were being skimmed a little. I don't mean to complain. But the washrooms were not renovated from the Hooters days. Okay they clean but it didn't match the updated Mexican restaurant decor.
The atmosphere is wonderful. They have sombrero's for birthday celebrations. Soft music in the background and sports on the televisions to watch. The only negative is that the women's bathroom doesn't always work. And the food is served hot. I had the birria tacos which were alright. The staff are helpful an polite. Multiple servers will wait on one table so if you need something you can ask any server.
Good option with an amazing view in summer days, nice patio in the balcony. The staff is nice. When you arrived they offered you some corn chips and yummy salsas. Cold beers 🍻 we have a tacos they were crunchy and with good flavor.
We've been wanting to try this place out for a few months now and I'm so glad we finally tried it. The atmosphere was amazing; we went on a Saturday at noon and it wasn't too busy which was perfect with the stroller. We sat at the window and had a great view of the lake. Our server was really helpful with what to order. The food was delicious. I would have rated a 5/5 but the chicken was not as good as the pork. We got the sopas, chicken burrito and divorced enchiladas and honestly, I could have just ordered all of the sopas and been happy with it. They were delicious! I would absolutely recommend. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes!
We went to this restaurant with some friends due to the good reviews and due to a recommendation. The food and atmosphere did not disappoint. The restaurant has a simple set up that has a true Mexican theme to it. We were greeted warmly and provided a nice table by the open garage doors to the outside patio. Our server was polite and answered all of our questions. The menu is fairly simple but there is something for everyone. We ordered a variety of tacos and the "divorce enchiladas". Meat was flavourful and tender. Sauces were authentic, fresh and tasty. Everything was fine. The service was a little slow but the excellent food made up for it.
Amazing food, amazing drinks and great atmosphere, music is awesome food came fast only issue is speed on drinks. Recommend minimum 3 bar staff on weekends and at least 4 blenders and you’ll be fine. Definitely not worth giving less than 5 stars though.
Fantastic lil gem! My favorite cuisine is Mexican food and this place did it perfectly. Lovely flavours, pretty plating and open concept dining area for this time of year was beautiful. Nothing like overlooking a lake while sipping on a Margarita. Can't wait to come back to Barrie for another visit to this restaurant😍
Very tasty food, good service and good price I recommend
Fun and delicious
Went here for dinner with a group of my friends. Service was slow even though the restaurant was empty. Half of us didn t like our food at all( terrible enchiladas and quesadillas). We weren t served water once we finished drinking from our glass and had to flag down waiters to get it for us. I asked for a spoon and didn t ever get one. Once it was time to pay the bill we were in no mood to tip. My friend payed cash and the server rudely asked her no tip sweetie? as if tipping was mandatory even when the food was abysmal. I was given the bill next and proceeded to hit the skip option for the tip. From this point the server whose name was Leo gave me and my entire group dirty looks and his semi friendly demeanour was gone. He continued to be unfriendly and shoot us (especially me) dirty looks until we were out the doors. 0/10 would not recommend take your family somewhere else.
The food 10/10, good portion, very good seasoning. The drinks are very delicious. Very good attention.
Filling of Taco is rare. Shrimp taco only has 4 little shrimp inside and charge $7 dollar.
Service was decent but not exceptional. Food was okay-ish. The ladies washroom was disgusting - and you cant flush toilet paper so the sign tells people to throw used toilet paper in the garbage - which was just an open can. Dietary restrictions: The menu implies that this restaurant will have some vegan options - but it was pretty disappointing. The options are simply to remove cheese and sour cream from dishes - with no adjustments for a plant protein or price. For example, fajitas were simply yellow pepper and onions, sautéed - with 4 small flour tortillas - for the same price as the main with meat, cheese, etc.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! I went here because the reviews look good but it was a lie! Food was terrible very bitter enchiladas, chicken had no taste, this is far from Mexican cuisine! I have been to Mexico and the food in this restaurant has left a bad taste in my mouth. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
The owners are really nice and came up to the table to chat with us. The food took a bit long to come out but that s no big deal. Food was less than satisfactory, really bland, and drinks were ok
Food and price were excellent
The owner loves his customers and all his staff are hand picked amazing. Plus he treats me special with my parking....my white car...he will know. Food : 5/5
Great place, happy to have discovered it. Ill be back to try more of the food. Parking: Parking is free after 5pm. Food : 5/5 |
Changed it so they only offer all you can eat on Wednesday, food also went downhill since this change.
Very delicious food, highly recommended
The original location was great. Food was always amazing. Dont know if it is new owners but the food was all dry like it was prepared in the morning and kept warm all day. Used to be one of my favourite spots.
This is our second visit to this restaurant, first in this newer location. Its all just ok. Its certainly not the fresh made flavours Im used to when it comes to mexican. The Nachos are covered in what I can only describe as a canned cheese sauce, not fresh, melted cheese. These are also served cold, with the warmed cheese applied to them. No salsa, a few tomatoes. . Underwhelming for $17. Our other dishes were ok, but just that. The chicken isnt marinated, so its pretty bland without any sauces. The staff are friendly, the location is good. Free parking in the lower lot on weekends.
Great place, food and service was amazing. Will definitely be returning soon
Authentic Mexican food - great service Sebastian
My wife & I just happened to come across this place as we stayed in Barrie one night. What a great atmosphere with fantastic authentic Mexican food. The staff was so great and offered advice to meet our tastebuds. Great work Sebastian!!! Highly recommend this place.
This place is amazing !!!! Best Mexican food in town and amazing atmosphere.
Service was horrible , the price is way too high for the quality of food. I ordered a drink took 1 sip and told the waitress I didn t like it and ordered another drink and she still charged me for the drink I didn t have. I didn t get my water and my soup was cold. Worse place ever.
11/10 I am from México and I loved this place. Most american/canadian places that serve Mexican food simply dont get the real experience of the country, but this place did it. I had Enchiladas de Mole and my buddy had Tacos de Birria. Both were very good, even for Mexican standards. Not only the food was great but the atmosphere was genuinely good too. Eating nice food with very good Mexican ambient really made me feel like home, something I am very grateful for. I would recommend anybody to try this place if they want to see what México really is.
Our waitress was super sweet and service was great! Food was ok but really expensive for what you get. Did not get salsa with my taco order.
Giving it a 4 because I hmm whenever I ask myself Why arent I giving it 5? Vegetarian options: They have some, my wife wasnt blown away Dietary restrictions: Im lactose intolerant Parking: Free after a specified time
Food truck came to my workplace and the tacos were sooo yummy. I really enjoyed their churros as well - soft and served warm. 10/10 The workers were super welcoming and generous as well. I definitely recommend!!!!
Our server Alex made our night, their presence and energy is unmatched, food was great but would go back just for Alex! Thank you
Views are great from the upstairs patio. The nachos and quesadillas were great. The enchiladas were too sweet for my liking. Food : 3/5
Amazing food, fast service, very friendly and caring staff and owners, great view of the lake from the upper patio. And the kids loved it! Dietary restrictions: Tacos are gluten free! Kid-friendliness: My family of six with four kids aged 6-12 dined in, staff were so friendly and patient with them, and all dour kids absolutely loved the food and the experience.
Good food, friendly service, nice location!
When we arrived it took a very long time to get drinks, also we had to ask for complimentary chips and salsa as they never offered us .seemed we were chasing the waiter down a lot ..Food was good more sauces needed on plates .. Service needs work.
Delicious Mexican food, excelente prices and service.
Great tacos and margaritas!
Seems a bit pricey for the food you get, but very fresh ingredients which is nice. Great craft beer!
Very nice Mexican food place, beautiful decoration and excellent food. Good music too
Food was awesome, Authentic style. Portions were good as well. One complain, Flys. Way too many of them. Food
Vegetarian options: The cauliflower tacos are amazing! The parking situation is not
I loved everything. The food is very delicious I loved everything. The food is very delicious.
The food wasn t that great, most things are really spicy. The washrooms were extremely dirty.
Quick and prompt service, food was amazing and portions are decently good.
Great atmosphere. Delicious food. Friendly staff - Sebastian was a great server.
Delicious Mexican food! Had great service from our friendly server Sebastian. Will be back!
The food was amazing. the service was a tad slow. And the bathrooms were not up to standards no paper towel
Expensive place for the amount of food served. Quality is good but quantity for the money you pay is quite bad. Location is great.
Great place and delicious food, and kindly services
For our first trip there we decided to try the buffet option and unfortunately it wasnt very memorable. The food overall was alright. Some were pretty decent, some were bland. I think they were trying to compensate with adding gallons of sauce to balance it out. Overall experience wasnt bad so the chances are we will try it again.
The food was amazing as well as the service
Excellent food, Excellent service 100% recommended
Great tasting food. Service is fast.
I really love the food here it is great! Very tasty, fresh ingredients and you can tell the kitchen staff put in the effort. However, the service level has been pretty indifferent both times I have visted, especially with drinks. The first visit we waited forever for drinks, I went back there last week and it was the same. So slow. Even coming by the table to say hello and take the drink order. Either they are short staffed or really just dont care.
Most of the food was really good, the tacos, quasadilas etc ! The nachos were a disappointment. Wish they had real cheese. The spicy Margarita was absolutely amazing. With a good serving staff the restaurant could be amazing as the atmosphere is . But took soooo long fir anyone to come to our table initially. Drink orders took 15 to 20 min with only 4 tables in the restaurant. Food was quick but barily ever saw the server
This was the best Mexican food since visiting Mexico.
Food was great, really tasty and good portions. It was our friend s birthday, they did their all out birthday thing with the song and hat, and that was really fun!
The location is awesome and so is the patio. The food was mid. The service was terrible. Took 30 minutes to get margaritas.. by the time we got them they were watery. We asked for water 3 times and it didn t come towards the end of our meal. We were never asked if we wanted another drink. Our friends meal was basically forgotten. This place could be so good. Train your staff better.
First visit, won t be back. Several staff saw me at the front door, and no one acknowledged me. Finally, a server who had her hands full nodded at me, but didn t return. After several minutes, a girl came up and seated me at my table. My server promptly showed up and asked if I wanted something to drink to start. I asked what they had on tap. He started naming off Margaritas, Tequila Sunrises and so on. I stopped him and asked, What kind of draft beer do you have? He listed off Dos Equis, Corona, and a few other beers. I decided on the Corona Draft. They brought me a bottle of Corona , and didn t stick around long enough for me to make a complaint. The sign out front says buffet , but I don t see anything that resembles a buffet. I ask my server about the buffet and he told me they no longer offer it. Everything is off the menu. I order the Enchiladas. The chicken in the enchiladas tasted like it was shredded then frozen. It was dried out. At least the enchilada sauce had some flavour. Considering I was expecting a buffet, I may as well have gone to Taco Bell and saved a few bucks. Disappointing
This place needs some class! Poorly managed! Absolutely annoying and money hungry promoter harassing guests after spending tons of $ on dinner and drinks to pay more if they wanna stay for the party after the fact!!! They have a wrong attitude and idea of running a business!
This place is absolutely fantastic, yesterday after wanting to come for a long time, we were finally able to have dinner here, the best and most authentic flavor I have ever had outside of Mexico, excellent food and even better service, we stayed for the salsa night, the cocktails , the music and the view, made it a special night, absolutely recommended.
Excellent service and excellent taste
Excellent place with a wonderful view, 100% good and quality food. I had the opportunity to talk with the owners of the place who were extremely friendly and gave me an incredible welcome.
In comparison to what their old location used to be like...it was a bit disappointing. The food is not cooked the same (shrimps were overdone and things seemed to be rushed in comparison) But overall still good food and great staff. I wish theyd provide salsa, hot sauce, sourcream as standard etc when you order tacos or at least ask if you want it.
We stopped for a quick snack and drink and loved it! We had a table right by the window and had a great view of the Bay. The Margaritas and Flautas (with 3 different sauces) were delicious. We especially loved the atmosphere of the place. We watched the staff mingling with the patrons and interacting with each other and the smiles and joy on their faces was infectious. A special thank you to our wonderful server Sophia. Soon we will be back with our friends to enjoy another great experience.
Excellent food! If you don t know what to get I recommend the 5 tacos, you won t be disappointed!
Food all tastes the same (and not in a good way). Service was friendly. Patio is ok. The building really just needs to be torn down. Would never go back. I have no idea how it has 4.6 stars.
Had a relaxed GF lunch on their outside patio. Enjoyed a cool breeze (table umbrella was up on a smoking hot day) and a side view of Kempenfelt Bay. Restaurant was clean with a nice, casual Mexican decor. Dietary restrictions: GF lunch choices with corn tortillas instead of bread. Opted for non-spicy milder flavours which I enjoyed. I chose a cold shrimp layered salad with avocado.
Today we went at lunch time very excited to have some delicious Mexican food as we did before. Unfortunately the quality of their food had dropped dramatically, they served us the beans tasteless, they seemed to be boiled and smashed. As well we ordered nachos with the hope to have it with lots of fresh herbs and vegetables as it is the season for the local produce. Instead we have been served chips with absolutely nearly nothing in it with some melted process cheese, disgusting. We also ordered fajitas which is supposed to be sizzling in the skillet, however it came cold and also tasteless. The service itself was terrible today, we were waiting for over 20 minutes for my kids drinks which were sprites. They also didn t have a cold beer to serve on such a hot day for my husband. The way I see it these people have no clue what they are doing and I don t think they aren t going to even survive like that, the food was a rip off and over priced.
Great restaurant serving authentic Mexican food. Recommending to give a try, wont be disappointed.
We loved their old location, which was much smaller, friendly, and had great authentic Mexican food. Our kid loved the pozole. That was four years ago. Today we were expecting the same great food and service but we were quite disappointed. The food was about twice the price, and much worse quality. Ive never had such bland tacos. And no hot sauces. Not worth $29 for tacos. Nachos were equally depressing. No cheese on half of it. Nothing interesting to them to justify the price. They went from being one of the better Mexican places (there are still ones in Toronto that are better), to one of the worst for food, service and price.
Probably the best Mexican food in Barrie.
Went for dinner with my girlfriend and had a beautiful evening sitting on the patio looking at the waterfront, great atmosphere. Staff is super friendly and food was great - will definitely be back!
It is a perfect place for family and friends.
Absolute mess this place is. They served beef to a pure vegetarian person after ordering vegetarian food and mentioning the same for 3 times while ordering. The server was not at all friendly and acted like finding a piece of meat in a vegetarian meal is normal here. I could see the server explaining the whole scenario to the owner and she didn t hesitate to come to the table. Worst Mexican food ever. I don t even know how they call it a Mexican restaurant. I ve had Mexican food over various locations and the food here is the worst. Never recommending this place. I wanted to give 0 rating if I could. Being a local I don t support this kind of food, service and behaviour with your customers. And everything is hell expensive, charging very high rates for third class food is another level of scam. Vegetarian options: No care taken here for vegetarian preferences, I wonder if they use same stuff for meat and vegetarian meals in the kitchen
They focused just on the presentation and not the flavour or the need of the customer . We ordered vegan food and found beef piece inside and it was not acceptable. The manager didnt even bother to come to the table and just asked the server to help us. It was a big deal for us to find a beef piece in the food I will never go back to this place .
This place barely knows anything about Mexican Food and Service, and I still wonder how they have 4.6 rating. Probably all positive reviews are fake. Uncooked chicken, Worst service ever, and no care for the customers. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Highly priced items, smaller and ugly food portions with no presentation and uncooked meat. I wonder how this place is still open. Location isnt everything to keep a restaurant in business, taste and service matter which this place doesnt offer. Disgusting food, service, unprofessional staff and management.
The experience was wonderful. We went for my nephews birthday . The waiter was absolutely fantastic, and such a good personality for serving. The food was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this place for any experience
Went for a date was excited to try this place waited about 30 miniuits for a single taco each her chicken taco was horrible she ate a few bites of the chicken sent the rest back she said tasted like Costcos cooked chicken (still had to pay for 2 bites) I had a plain steak taco with cheese the tortillas werent cooked and they melted the cheese onto the meat making a greesy mess combined with the raw wrap was almost impossible to stomac the steak was ok very salty just glad thats all we ordered I hate sending food back
Cochinita phibil sope is a must try ! Great food, loved the jalapeno margarita as well.
Food was excellent, and good portion size! Service was Fast! Staff was very friendly and present. Drinks were very good as well. Price was reasonable. Will definitely be going back
The view was nice and the service friendly, the food was just ok.
Really enjoyed eating here! Came with 10 others on a Friday night for my birthday and they were happy to accommodate a larger party. From the moment you step inside you can tell it s a family run restaurant and that they genuinely care. Service was wonderful, everyone is very friendly. Food was delicious, the owner who is also the chef came out multiple times to make sure our food tasted good and continuously asked if they could improve at all. Really appreciated this as it showed they genuinely care. I will certainly be back!!
Staff were excellent and very friendly! Great service. Unfortunately, that is where the experience ends. Food is very poor. You can tell it is NOT made fresh and has been sitting. I had 3 different tacos (chicken, shrimp, beef), and all the meats were overcooked and dry. The toppings are not listed on the menu, so my meal had to be remade when it came out as there was sour cream all over (dairy allergy). The food is edible, but that is about it. If you want authentic Mexican food, I would recommend Guac or even driving to Midland and going to Zanca.
Love the all you can eat experience! Cant get enough of their tacos!! Specially the Shrimp ones. Their only downside its that they close at 9PM most days including Fridays & Saturdays. Food
Good Mexican food, but can t say amazing
The food was nothing short of exceptional. I was warmly welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff. Their professionalism and genuine hospitality set the tone for a wonderful evening. The menu offered a great variety, and everything I tried was fresh and delicious
Food was terrible. Nachos with fake cheese and no sour cream. Food
Great food, very welcoming and good service.
Authentic Mexican food, delicious and comforting, nice place and excellent attention. Kid-friendliness: Good options for kids
We were given the a la cart menus when we were seated, we asked about the all you can eat we were told that they don t recommend it because it s our first time here. We ordered the ceviche, flautas, shrimp cocktail and birria. The waiter came back to say that they re out of shrimp. When I had asked about the Plato Azteca but was told they don t offer plates anymore and they are working on a new menu. The ceviche was ok but the chips were not fresh really bad no name packaged. The flautas had very dry chicken. The birria was very good but the tortillas that came with it again very low quality prepackaged no name type - not fresh.
The music is very slow
The music is horrible, it took away all my desire to be there, the drinks were not the best.
Worst delivery I ve ever had. Three different flavors of tacos all rolled together in one foil wrap. And apparently picked up nachos from the movie theatre. $60 for trash.
The music was very upbeat
Fantastic view of the waterfront, great drinks from the bar, decent service from the wait staff, nice Mexican style atmosphere...but pretty mediocre food. Ill be back for drinks, but probably not for supper.
The vibe is great! Fantastic patio and the food is amazing! Our server was awesome and she was so nice! We will definitely be back! My new favourite Mexican restaurant in town. Drinks take a loooong time so if you re getting a second drink order it when your first drink is half done. Still love the place though.
Wasnt thrilled with the service and food was very bland. Waitress screwed up our bills and then it was horrible trying to get sorted out. Decided it was easier to just leave than argue and get bill fixed. Wont be back.
The only good thing about this restaurant is the location. You reviewers who state it s the most authentic Mexican food you ve tasted obviously haven t been out much. First, we ordered nachos for an appetizer. They had no guacamole. A Mexican restaurant on a Friday night and no guacamole. Then I ordered enchiladas and asked to have just the sauce on the side. My enchilada consisted of 4 flour tortillas with a little shredded chicken inside. No cheese, veggies or anything mixed in. The menu said it came with cheese and sour cream. I had nothing. They came back with the two items on the side. To boot, it was at least 10-15 minutes to be served each portion, including drinks. When we got our bill, half of what our friends ordered was on our bill and our main dishes weren t even on there! Not impressed.
Amazing restaurant! Everything was delicious and the service was great.
Great
Incredible food!! Very attentive service! Beyond impressed. Can t wait to come back!!
Totally disappointed. More than 30 min just couple of tacos. Servers no experience. Would you ask a beer for 3 servers additionally remind themselves. Never come again. OMG made me soo angry.
They took our drink order 5 minutes after seating us but our drinks didnt arrive until our food came. We had the enchiladas, and beef burrito. Both were flavorless. Poor service, flavorless food. We wont be back.
Today I had a bad taste in my mouth in this place, the food was very good and the service was incredible but the truth is that I would not return because the time it takes for the drinks is absurd. We finished eating and they couldnt bring us a couple of beers and a pair of daisies
Just had a great dinner - thank you for the hospitality. Can t wait for the upstairs patio to open.
Very pricey, bland food/no flavour whatsoever and drinks came way after the food was served
Hands down the best Mexican food Ive ever had in Canada if not anywhere. They have enchilada de mole (enmoladas) which is very hard to find north of the border. The food was incredibly flavourful and tasted homemade and authentic. The staff was extremely friendly and hospitable as were the owners who came to chat with us about our experience. They are a husband and wife who are very passionate about the food they serve. The price is also quite reasonable. They are new in this location and if they keep up the excellent food and service quality with the price point, they are going to have years of success!
We live in Barrie and were excited to try this location, specifically for its patio. When we arrived we were greeted and provided a spot on the patio no questions asked. Wonderful! We ordered drinks and received our chips and beans quickly. When we indicated we wanted to have all you can eat Tacos the waitress said we would have to sit inside which defeated the reason for picking this spot in the first place. When we asked if we could stay on the patio we were told no, tacos are only served inside with no other explanation. No manager came over to apologize or provide additional reasoning. Not wanting to ruin the mood or cause a scene, we reluctantly moved and were ignored for close to 30 minutes while we waited to place an order for tacos. The waitress did her best but they were severely understaffed with two busser girls who never came to our table to remove plates or items. Because the waitress was so overwhelmed, she never asked how we were or why we were there until the bill (we were celebrating a birthday). The owner came over and talked to the loudest table in the place with a video camera conveniently placed behind him to capture the moment but didnt offer to help his one waitress, with delivering drinks or removing plates, who was running around frantic. Food was ok and I appreciated the different variety, but we have had better. Im sure the owner will say it helps them grow up as he has on other comments, but after months of operation at what point does it become just words. Hire more staff so you dont have to put weird rules in place (no tacos on the patio) and help your staff when they appear to be struggling. The location is nice so I hope it does well but with another Mexican place literally right around down the street they had better grow up soon.
The food was fairly good and prices were very reasonable. The staff was attentive and friendly. The menu is somewhat difficult to understand as there are many errors. The décor is fun. I would definitely return. Wheelchair accessibility: There is no wheelchair accessible washroom. It is up 5 - 6 stairs.
I love love coming here, the food is amazing and the service is top tier! The owners are hands on and absolutely Pleasant!! Highly recommended!!
My enthusiasm about eating at la cocina mexicana was a bit high until I asked for a beverage, sadly I can tell how Careless is this Bussiness they don t care about their employers, I saw how a pregnant person make my drink with alcohol and before to finish it she tasted, big wooow, alcohol, pregnant woman, Carrying heavy stuffs is not safe, Cocktail Margarita was he, I tried better ones, tacos are meh, cilantro had sand, my server got confuse with my table and another one, not even busy and servers making mistakes and tip them out for their incompetence, what kind of bussines is this? No profesional for sure, boring, next time If I feel like Mexican food, I will go to the Mexican House serious service and warm welcome into a cozy spot or a well know Restaurant like Fishbones or Il Bucco, No worth it.
Never again. Drinks took 30 minutes for water and rum & coke. Food is very bland. No flavour. Tacos were served with no sauces , when we asked if we should have sauce as well because we saw another table have it, it took 20 minutes.
Veronica was a wonderful server, very quick and friendly. Will definitely be back for more delicious tacos :)
Veronica was very charismatic and friendly would highly recommend to anyone looking for friendly familiar service and a great environment
Veronica was absolutely amazing. Highly suggest asking for her section. Amazing food and great atmosphere!!! 10 outta 10
We ordered burritos and mottelas 1 hour later they said they can t give us any of the food because they are out of cheese they took our order 3 times and kept saying it s coming instead of telling us they can t make it because there was no cheese. Service was also bad none of the servers knew there was no cheese and they barely knew English
My worst experience ever, we ordered 3 fajitas, came with half paper and half onion lol, with nothing else, Im sure they know nothing about Mexican food.
Awesome spot
The food was absolutely amazing, so unbelievably tasty and incredibly well priced. The drinks were so good, and the view was absolutely stunning. Veronica And her husband are amazing! Will definitely be coming back for the buffet!
Since new location is opened and ACE is no longer available anytime well I m truly disappointed :(
Just had our sons rehearsal dinner on the patio for 21 people. The food was excellent. The service was wonderful and the view of the lake from the patio was first rate. The price was also so reasonable. Cant say enough good about it.
The food is excellent! Very authentic and delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is very nice. Highly recommend!
Excellent! The food was amazing, try something you dont know and youre sure to love it. Service was very attentive and everyone working there would just pop by to check and make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely going again!
All you can eat is only on Wednesdays now apparently, does not state that anywhere I found on website , had to show up to find this information out
Loved the hot sauces, when we asked about them the owner sent us home with a care package. Lovely staff great, great date, good drinks. Recommended to all the homies.
We had a big party of people, over 12 of us on a saturday night, half of us were eating dessert by the time the rest got their dinner. Water was not brought to the table. We had to ask for things multiple times before they got to the table and the food was bland and super dry. We left half our platter. We didnt want a take out box. We all left pretty disappointed.
Great prices, friendly staff .. a true treasure
Lovely location near the waterfront, great food and service. I was a little confused thinking it was buffet, but on Wednesdays it is actually all you can eat or al la carte (usually al la carte only other days). Luckily we just happened to drop in on a Wednesday, so got to try a number of dishes - not one I did not like!
Been twice in 2 weeks!! Found this great place and love it. Buffet that comes to your table. AMAZING GOOD FOOD
As a Mexican, I recommend it
My son, his friend, and I were there April 27th. Richard and his staff are absolutely amazing!! They make you feel welcome like you are part of their family. The new location by the water is great, and I cant wait to have dinner on the best patio in Barrie. Now the food is next level!! Everything is authentic and so delicious Im really looking forward to my next visit!!
The tacos were delicious and the prices were great. Will be back! Try to get seated away from the bar. The margarita blender is very distracting.
Great location fresh tacos are awesome!
I had high hopes, as Mexican is one of my favourite cuisines. I would not recommend tacos. The service was very slow, and I had to look for our server twice to order beverages and food.
Fantastic atmosphere, excellent Mexican food and the owner is a delight who is very accommodating and has a such a positive energy she really makes you want to support the business . Awesome service from Scott really professional and just overall a wonderful experience. Highly recommended and will definitely be back
While the service was friendly and quick, the portions plentiful and the location is excellent, we felt the food tasted too bland. We expect more flavour from Mexican food: cilantro, lime, jalapeno etc. We expected tastier food and were disappointed. About $37 per person with a drink and tips.
Nice place. The civeche had more onions than fish. Good but not great
Excellent service, delicious food and clean and beautiful place Recommended
Food was great, really wanted to give a better rating but I can t cause the service just didn t meet up to most reasonable standards. I ll give them an extra star to make up for Mother s Day but honestly it wasn t waiting room or anything like that. We had to ask for food order to be taken cause they simply forgot us outside - they seemed to forget half the patio. That would have been ok but then again after serving food we asked for the bill and during the wait two tables came in had drinks lite appies annd cashed out in between and the owner (?) noticed us and came over to ask if we wanted anything then said oh my just the bill?. Start to finish well over 2 hours for not a big meal and that s Just not acceptable. It also eats up a big patios table for them. I would try again but not for a bit - ruined what would have been a great eat :(
Great food!!! Reasonable prices.
Came here on a whim and it was fantastic. Live music, the food will knock your socks off. So tasty. Very well done. Everything was too shelf. Will be coming here again! Just tried out the new location by the waterfront. We went on a Wednesday night, it wasnt too busy. We were seated right away, our server took our drink order quickly. We ordered our meal and it arrived in no time. We ordered one of those mixer platters, some cheese dish, chicken fingers for one of my kids. Everything had a distinct unique flavor. I was a little bit worried with the few negative reviews lately. But this place did not disappoint.
My experience was beautiful, I loved it, everything was very authentic, I ordered birria and pfff I loved it, I would love for them to include more Mexican snacks like pambazos, potato chalupas, quesadillas with nopales.
The beef stew was very tasty. You must ask for limes to be added to it.
I took my 2 Mexican friends last Tuesday to try the place for the first time. We were celebrating my friend s birthday. They are quite knowledgeable when it comes to real Mexican food and tough judges in all different Mexican restaurants where we have been. The good news is , we were really impressed with the good flavor of all the tacos, since it was all you can eat taco day. They were really good and the fresh refreshing Mexican drinks and coffee as well. My friends were very happy to have their real Mexican food, just the way they like it. With the salsa nights and upcoming events in the summer, we ll be back for sure. Great location, nicely decorated clean place and good service.
First experience, service was great, food as well
The food was really good tasty authentic Mexican. Was a little loud so 4/5 for atmosphere would go there hungry and enjoy it!
Had a great experience. Everyone working there was so nice and helpful. The food was excellent we enjoyed everything we ordered.
Excellent Mexican food in downtown Barrie. The staff makes you feel like family and the food is very good with lots of variety.
Best Mexican food in Ontario and an awesome service!!! A must!!!!
The most authentic Mexican restaurant in town! Their customer service is unparalleled. I love it!
Super disappointed, asked for water and didn t receive it until the food came. We ordered nachos for the table and a server took them away before we were finished with them. I ordered a kids chicken burrito for my kid. It didn t show up until the rest of the table was done eating and it was an adult sized burrito. Also when the server was delivering our food. They were talking on their phone, holding to their ear with their shoulder. Worst service I ve ever experienced
$7 for 1 tiny skimpy ground beef taco !? Never again Complete rip off Boooo thumbs down
Food is very tasty, welcoming atmosphere, great and friendly service ! Highly recommended it! Food
Best Mexican food in Ontario! We drive from Toronto to enjoy their delicious food and drinks! Oh..and the amazing shows they bring as well! Food
Wow, just had a chicken taco and a bevi definitely a new fave place. And pet friendly!!! Looking forward to trying more dishes, and maybe breakfast too. Food : 5/5
The food will not disappoint you and the place is beautiful, highly recommended if you are really looking for the taste of Mexican food,
Went here on a Wednesday afternoon and had a great meal with the all you can eat menu! The margaritas were a hit for me, they were extra yummy!
Best Mexican place in town. Food is authentic, staff is amazing. My new favorite spot!
Friendly and welcoming service! Authentic and delicious food! Prices are very reasonable. Vibe was awesome. Will definitely go back and try more dishes.
Excellent food with good service. Value could be better but I understand it is downtown, though prices were on par with downtown Toronto for beer and drinks.
Great food and super friendly staff Wednesday all you can eat menu items to your table is so yummy. Food
Very slow service - our table of 5 had to ask for water at least 3 times Lime margaritas were delicious food was very bland/dry - had the chicken burrito and it was very dry - needed some sauce to be served with it . We were hoping for better as we love Mexican Restaurant is in a great location and will be great in the summer being right by the water front - just wish the food was better.
1st time here, on my Birthday! Lovely atmosphere by the water, live music and the staff was very friendly. Lemon drop martini was amazing! We ordered the platter and quesadillas and the fish taco included was the fan favourite. It was more than enough for two to share! Will definitely recommend and will be back! Thanks for a great Birthday dinner!
I was really excited to try this place. We traveled 2 hours to come here for all you can eat during a friends birthday on a Friday. We got to the door and was told there were no tables available, so we waited around 20 minutes for a table. Once we were seated they brought us menus. However we were not given the all you can eat menus we were given the a la carte menus. We asked them if the menu they gave us for all you can eat, we were then told that all you can eat is Wednesdays only. When their website clearly states all you can eat prices for weekdays and weekends. So we just ordered off the a la carte menu. Food came in a timely matter, however we were brought the wrong food, I ordered beef and was brought chicken. This in itself is beyond wrong of them to do as someone could be severely allergic to certain foods and die. As they brought our food to the table waitress asked if we wanted any sauce. I told her yes some hot sauce please and then the whole dinner they never brought any. I even reminded her half way through the dinner and the next time she came to the table she brought the bill. I am very disappointed with my experience. I will not be returning.
2024 April After two years, I made the hour long trip to try Cocina Mexicana again. I tried everything on the menu so you dont have to. Im rating each taco out of 10. Overall, theres a language barrier as English is their second language. However, staff is incredibly friendly and is accommodating. Note, the restaurant changed its business model recently so only Wednesday is AYCE. There is enough variety on the menu that youll find something youll like. The food is 4/5 but the friendly service and authenticity elevates to a near 5 Free birthday meal w/ ID --- Review --- Pescado (Fish) - 8.5 light & crispy. the fish is likely cod or halibut, fresh w/ a mild mayo sauce. Camaron (Shrimp) - 6.3 slightly chewy, and not deep fried. the shrimp is pan fried w/ a mayo sauce. good but could use more seasoning. This would be better battered & deep fried. Tinga - 5.7 pulled chicken breast in a smokey red sauce. found this rather bland but would be good for those who like plain food. Carnita - 7.7 clean pork taste that focuses on the quality of meat. very neutral tasting and surprisingly good. Conchinita Pibil - 4.5 similar to the Tinga but with pork and a tangy red sauce. Chorizo - 8 good flavour with spices that arent overwhelming. a light coat of fat that glazes over the ground chorizo offering a rich bite and mouth feel. Carne asada - 7.9 A bit too salty when I got it but it is a very hardy beef taco. good quality beef. Papa Con Chorizo - 6 its saucey with peas and potatoes. was just OK bit on the plain side. Compechamo - 7 had good flavor but unfortunately big pieces of beef cartilage that was inedible. likely a one off situation Pastor - 8 clean pork taste with sauteed onion. Gringa - 8.6 my favorite. grilled pork with sauteed onions. the flour totilla has a soft and pillowy bite. pork had very good flavor. Nachos - 8.7 chips are light and crunchy and The combination of queso, sour cream, beef and toppings made it a very enjoyable snack. completely different from your typically American Tex Mex. Chilaquiles - 6.8 nachos with a very tangy green salsa topped with meat. its just ok. Sopes - 4 I do not recommend. thick corn dough pie topped with meat. the dough is very bland. Quessadilla - 5.7 its too starchy as the pastry is made from corn. flour pastry wouldve been tastier. Bunuelo - 8.7 good quality ice cream on a crispy cinnamon sugar wafer like disk. Three Milk Cake - 8.8 Simple cake sitting in a pool of milk. served chilled and has really good and fresh taste. nice way to end the meal. 2022 I traveled an hour north from Toronto to understand why this place is highly rated. The two of us opted for AYCE ($33.99) in an effort to try everything on the menu. Tacos: truly authentic and strictly Mexican tacos. This is not Tex Mex or fusion. Tacos came out hot and the meat:tortilla ratio is at least 2:1. Simple ingredients lets you taste the taco for what it is. Some tacos can be dry because they serve salsa in a bottle on the side. I tried all 13 tacos, all ranged from good to excellent. My favorite was Camaron, Carne Asada, Campechano. Carnitas were ok but needed more contrasting texture and flavor (soft on soft) - this would go really well on a tostadas. Enchiladas & Quesadillas: very comforting with a good combination of sauce and melty cheese. Tasted very home style. Quesadilla was nice and crisp and not greasy. Nachos: very good. Homemade and not the store bought kind. Fried tortilla always yields crunch and flavor. Before you order, opt for the nachos on the menu because it comes with chorizo, pico and toppings. Service: excellent. Extremely friendly, humble and welcoming. Waitress always has a smile on her face. Owner came by to take feedback which shows he cares about his customers. Decor: clean and spacious with Mexican art scattered around. Could use more charm and intimacy. Space feels too open. I typically refrain from 5/5, but the overall combination of taste, value, friendly staff makes this place perfect. Im very hard to please but Cocina Mexicana has passed by all standards. Parking: Free on weekends
Good food cheap cost love the service best mexican food in town. My favourite tacos and their frozen margarita . I love the service the ambiance is the best . Location is awesome sea facing big place .can accommodate big parties so going again next time for sure . I enjoyed today and see you soon again
Tacos were nothing special, fish taco was really bad.
Very rich
Disappointing, bland experience. My Dad and I had dinner at Cocina Mexicana last (Sunday) night; there were only 4 tables seated in the entire restaurant. When we walked in the door we were greeted by a friendly face and there was an authentic vibe to the environment. Our experience went downhill immediately after that: - the hot sauce trio served in 3 small glass bowls that comes with complimentary chips had leftover food in each glass bowl - our entrees were plated on plates that had old crusty food on the bottom of our plates - there was no followup-care to ensure we enjoyed our food at ANY point while we were eating our Green Enchiladas entrees. (The dry chicken and corn torts could have used some hot sauce or guac to give the dish some flavor!) - there was ZERO personal connection made from any staff that touched our table. Simple phrases like have you been here before or any cravings youre hoping to have satisfied or a simple Hi! Welcome in! would have gone a long way. But for a server to approach our table and their first words to us are what would you like was such a disappointing interaction. I wanted to love this place and Im a huge advocate of second chances, but not one moment in our experience motivates me to visit Cocina Mexicana again.
Best Mexican food I have had outside of Mexico. I love traveling to Mexico for some of the items I was able to find deliciously made here. The servers give it a genuine Mexican feel, the decor is really nice and has little nods to Mexico. Very proud to make this review. We had plenty of flavourful corn tortillas, 4 meat and veg mixes and 3 different sauces to put on top, of varying spice levels. Would gladly come back. The price was right for the quality and value you get.
Best Mexican food in Barrie without a doubt! Love the new location, excited for patio szn
Best Mexican food in town 100% recommended
Excellent service, great.place.and above all, amazing food! Flavourful and fresh! Margaritas were exceent too.
A really lovely spot first time coming here; authentic and tasty food, with a nice atmosphere. Didn t go with the all you can eat option, and got the Plato 5 de Mayo enough food for two people, left feeling happy and full. Will definitely not be the last time I come here; looking forward to coming back again. Probably a great spot in the summer with the lakefront so close!
I didnt realize melted cheese meant cheese sauce not really cheese at all.
Authentic Mexican food
We been ordering from Cocina Mexicana Since we moved to barrie. One of our favourite spots to get our food from. Their Chicken soup just reminds me so much of back home and especially when pregnant and not able to keep anything down this is the only soup I can. I can never make it as good as there s. Today I ordered it once again, and had a very unfortunate experience with the Uber driver who left it out to get wet. In the wrong area not to mention also. Went to pick up the bag and the bag broke spilling all the food It s not the restaurants fault, however they were kind enough to drive over with a fresh soup. They went above and beyond and I appreciate that. Thank you so much
Not impressed period
I had the cinco de mayo and it was perfect. Anyone using uber should note the uber map isnt updated, put in 5 Mulcaster Street
Amazing food and service. Highly recommend checking this place out. Shrimp tacos, tortilla soup and the burrito are all my top choices so far.
Hubby and I just had a fabulous afternoon there with a few tequila drinks and food galore. It was great, I must say. Everyone was so welcoming and the food was over the top. With this perfect location, I can t wait for summertime. My recommendation is the soft tacos and margüeritas.
Amazing place. Great food, great drinks and super nice people. We had such a great time there. We definitely going to try their tequila bar in the summer. A must try place.
This is the worst place Ive ever been, I went to celebrate a friends birthday and the service was terrible, we waited more than half an hour for someone to serve us, they dindt even offer us water, all the order was delayed, I received my pozole an hour after I ordered, I received another wrong order and I ended up eating something that wasnt mine!! And when I received my actually order I didnt accept it cus I didnt know what I was eating wasnt mine and the waitress was mean at me, worst experience of my life and of course my friend was upset as well. The food took so long that we couldnt order more than one time, I paid $45 without taxes for a small plate It felt like a scam paying for that and the staff was really rude at all the time, I wouldnt recommend this place never not even for the service or the food.
The place is lovely (it would be incredible in the summer), but the food was hit & miss...and when we initially asked for just a few tacos to start and clarified wed be ordering several more things for our main courses, the friendly waitress never came back and (after a while) we had to flag down a nice fella to submit our order. We were there much longer than planned and it was awkward to repeatedly be ignored by the girl walking directly past us. There was only 1 other occupied table at this time, so that was not the issue. If the food had had more flavor instead of being surprisingly bland, wed give it another try - but, ultimately, it was just okay. Weve frequented MANY authentic Mexican restaurants and even make our own al pastor from scratch (with ingredients we cant even get nearby), so maybe our expectations were just too high? Or maybe this was just an off night? But we wont be back.
Great Mexican food- all you can eat! Quality is good and the people really nice. New location is amazing. Service is great, friendly owners and servers. Definitely recommend this restaurant, all you can eat Mexican food or menu options.
After much anticipation, I finally went for dinner here. I sat at a table by the bar, and it took some time for a waitress to finally serve me. I went for all you can eat and ordered tacos and Caesar salad for start; 5 minutes later I was told that the salad is not included in the all you can eat menu. To be honest, the remainder of the meal was average to below average, using my previous Mexican food dining experiences. The chicken burritos, enchiladas and tachos all tasted much the same. The burritos and enchiladas were very soggy. I requested these to be very spicy and all were bland and void of flavour. After ordering the main course, I felt pretty much ignored. The only delicious item was the chocolate ice cream for dessert, but it wasn t enough to redeem the meal experience. The meal and one beer totalled $65. I left feeling that this experience was significantly over priced.
I had a great experience with my family. Authentic delicious Mexican food. I liked the concept all you can eat and a la carte The atmosphere and service were excellent and the staff is very nice and friendly , very attentive. Congratulations to the owners Veronica and Ricardo. Their new location is amazing and welcoming. I highly recommend Cocina Mexicana to family and friends.
Definitely the best place to enjoy a delicious 100% Mexican food near Toronto. We explored the flavors of Mexico, with tacos, quesadillas, pozole, suadero tacos and many more dishes. Excellent service and careful attention from Vero and Ricardo. We will return very soon.
