Excellent all around, like excellent. Two very minor things, the rice was slightly under cooked and it was a bit chilly in where we were sitting. Wonderful service! Food

We love the Mexican house in Barrie. I have to say that the other location seems to have better food but this location is the better atmosphere. The steak tacos were not the best here but the pastor were excellent! Their salsa verde is the best around!

We visited this Mexican House location several times in 2023 and consistently enjoyed great food, excellent service, and fantastic Margaritas. However, this summer we missed out on a visit, and last night we decided to return. Unfortunately, something felt off. The restaurant was bustling with servers, none of whom were there during our previous visits. After we were seated, the tortilla chip basket arrived, but instead of the usual fully stocked salsa cups, we received just one cup that was barely filled. We ordered two Top Drawer Margaritas, which were supposed to be made with Anejo Tequila, but they clearly fell short of that promise. They were definitely not Top Drawer Margaritas. We then opted for the house Margaritas, which had plenty of lime juice but were overly sweet, lacking the Tequila flavor, and tasted watered down. One of our favorite dishes to share has always been the pork tamales, always delicious. This time, however, they were dry and tasteless. The chicken enchiladas were decent, but the Fajitas arrived without any sides and lacked flavor. Overall, it felt like the dishes were more expensive, offered smaller portions, and lacked the quality we had come to expect. Has there been a change in ownership? It seems like there s been a clear effort to cut food and alcohol costs at the expense of customers experience. Our bill came to $124 plus tip, which I wouldn t mind paying if the experience and food quality remained consistent. It s disappointing because the food used to be reliably good, and the Margaritas were excellent. Sadly, we won t be returning.

Went there for lunch, and the drinks and guac were so good but for the food side we ordered the grilled chicken and shrimp skewers it was horrible as no spices were added not grilled only boiled the chicken was rubbery. Only recommend the drinks and appetizer

Ordered catering for my fiances 33rd birthday. It was DELICIOUS! Amazing portions (literally had leftovers for 2 days lol), great/friendly service (they arrived right on time!) And for the price of their taco bar catering it was definitely worth the money for what we got. (Not pictured was a giant tray of churros!) Im not sure which location I ordered from so Ill leave this review on both lol Thank you again for the delicious food!!

Mexican House has been my favourite restaurant for years, but I guess theyve changed owners or something, because the quality of the food has dropped significantly. The mole, which I had just a few months ago and loved, was way too salty. We usually dont send food back, but the meal was inedible, and the server just said it tastes fine to me. The meat was totally dry and all our meals were completely bland and barely touched. When we voiced our complaints the server just brought out the bill lol, but at least the mole was comped. We actually brought friends from out of town with us and were raving about the food moments before, sucks to lose your favourite restaurant this way.

Went here with a group of friends the other night. Our friends that brought us there have been telling me for years how good it was. Unfortunately something seems to have changed. The service was bad, but a bit on the cold and indifferent side. Not unforgivable, but also not what youd want when going out to eat. The food on the other hand was absolutely terrible. I got the Torta with Carnitas (pork). The best way I can describe how the meat tasted was that it was steamed ham. It was soggy, unseasoned, flavorless and boring. Not at all what you would hope for from Mexican cuisine. The Torta was topped with lettuce and guacamole, which also didnt taste very good. Because of how wet the pork was the bottom of the bread was nothing but a wet sponge and kind of gross to try and eat. The torta also came with fries, which were fine I guess, if you like them unsalted and dry. One of my friends got the mole. She and others who tried it described it as being way too salty to the point of being inedible. When they sent it back all the server said was that it tasted fine to him. Another friend got a dish (not sure the name of it), but it looked like beige vomit slopped onto a plate and apparently didnt taste much better because she didnt eat it. She had said she had eaten that dish from there before and it was completely different and amazing. Not this time I guess. Two of my group got chimichanga. One got beef, the other chorizo. The beef in the first one was dry, unseasoned shoe leather and the burrito itself had been left in the fryer too long. Similar experience for the one who got Chorizo. The meat was barely seasoned and not at all what youd hope for from chorizo sausage. The sides they got with their meal were also bad. I was told the rice tasted like they poured it out of a ready mix package but forgot to put the seasoning packet into it. After tasting everything we told our server of our disappointment, unfortunately all they could suggest was giving us the bill. Fair enough. From our experience I would not recommend this place. Its a shame too because it was one of my friends favourite restaurants, now they have to find somewhere else. As a side note and one redeeming quality, the tortilla chips we had at the start of the meal were very good. Its just a shame the rest of it didnt match up.

I have been to quite a few Mexican restaurants. First Mexican restaurant that I found where the food has flavor. My wife and I have made it our go to place.

The food was good and plentiful and the staff were nice. Im not experienced when it comes to Mexican food but I was expecting it to be spicier. Hot salsas were offered with the meal to spice things up but both were laden with cilantro which I dont care for. There was lots of meat in the quesadilla and the chimichanga but the salad was a bit sparse. Overall it was still a great meal and well be back when in town to explore the menu further - next time Ill ask about cilantro-free options.

I had the chicken tacos. The chicken was dry and not flavourful. You had to pay for basic toco toppings such as cheese and sour cream for 2.50 each extra. The live music was great.

I had an exceptional dining experience at this Mexican restaurant, earning a well-deserved 5 stars. The enchiladas were rich and flavourful, while the Chimichanga (Alambre) impressed with its crisp texture and well-seasoned filling. The Rajas con Crema were perfectly balanced, with a smoky, creamy profile that stood out. The Amigo Chips were fresh and paired beautifully with an array of salsas. Attentive service and a warm atmosphere made for a memorable visit. Highly recommended!

An excellent place, the music and the food make you feel at home, they are things that one misses, I am Mexican and for a moment it reminded me of being at home with my family.

Wonderful service, ambiance and the food is delicious. They went a little extra for my sons 21st Birthday today. Such a great place to go with family or friends. Parking: Construction going on right now, but there are more than enough parking lots around for everyone.

Visit on Saturday, June 24, 2023 for beverages and a light meal. Mobility impaired accessible. Large inside dining area as well as an outdoor patio, all overlooking Barrie s waterfront. Excellent live music, typically on Saturdays around 7 PM. Diner was 3 Tacos with beef steak and Flautas with chicken . Beverages were Modelo and Corona. Excellent food, wide variety of beverages, all reasonably priced. Table service may be slightly slower when restaurant is busy. Would most definitely recommend and will return.

Very authentic Mexican food. Great service. The view is wonderful as well as it faces the Barrie waterfront. If you enjoy Mexican cuisine I strongly recommend this restaurant. Parking: Theres a parking lot across the street (pay) and street parking is free on Sunday.

Best margaritas in town!

As I sit here after my meal I can t help but be disappointed. I have brought people from out of town specifically because food was fantastic. NOW, food overpriced, I ordered fajitas and the meat came with just the tortillas no sides as it used to come with. Also, more expensive. I voice my concern to server 1 ( male brown hair, jeans and a black sweater) he heard about 1 second of my complaint and decided it would be great to talk over me. We are the meal, then asked for the manager. Server 2 ( female) arrived back with the bill, finally we got the manager Abi. Voice my concern. She said they used to serve the fajitas with side but because some people simply don t eat it they stopped and increased prices. Unacceptable, treat each customer as an individual not as a general statistic. Terrible customer service, felt that Abi simply blew off the complaint. Restaurant was full so it s not an issue with making money, it seems to be an issue with a greedy owner. I usually bring out of town persons to this restaurant because the food was good, prices were fantastic, and service was amazing. NEVER again, go to the competition. Then we order a coffee ..water and milk, zero coffee taste. Complete waste of time coming here, save your money.

The waitresses have always treated me wonderfully, very friendly and attentive, what I dont like at all is the way the supposed boss treats them, she is always yelling at them and treating them very badly in front of the customers, I wont come back again, they should look at that. Nobody deserves that treatment.

Best place in town, such a nice atmosphere, you can feel the summer in here!! Great place to enjoy with your family and friends, do not forget the live music band!! They are amazing! It makes a big difference! , and if you re lucky, Eduardo will come to your table!!! To help you with your cravings!!!

The band was great, the lead singer made the whole experience so fun! Very good amigo plater. Chips need to be salted, though. Good tamales, little too spicy for this gourmet palette Chimichanga with pork was disappointing. The meat was very dry. Margaritas were excellent! Service was meh, we couldnt ever get waitress attention, and she never checked in. Maybe they were in the weeds, I dont know, lots of staff, zero eye contact from our nice waitress. Young guy delivering food was great, smiling goid energy guy. Ill go back and give them one more try on the food/service. The margaritas and music are worth it.

The enchiladas were packed with flavour and the chicken within them pulled apart so nicely. The Coffee Olla was brewed to perfection, and so sweet.

Our sever was good and the atmosphere was vibrant However , We ordered a beef burrito and beef fajitas . We could not finish our meals as it was beyond salty .The sodium content was unbearable

If youre looking for Authentic Mexican cuisine, then The Mexican House is the place! They had some live music the Saturday we were there that really added to the whole dining experience. Very reasonably priced and food was top notch!

I really thought this was the best mexican food in town until recently. Spent over $100 on frozen reheated food. Plus, just because they have it on the menu doesnt mean they sell it that day, so that makes it unreliable. - Dont put on a menu stuff you are going to preheat, then sell it like its fresh. Pupusas $8 and Pozole $18 were reheated and tasted awful. - Canned beans? Really ? -Lemonade was super sour. - There is a difference between well-done steak and burnt steak. - the service was awful, i get it was a holiday, but over 40 mins to get our orders taken while having kids. Not even came by to offer hot sauce or other condiments, The only thing good we had was a ceasar salad. If you want fresh and authentic mexican food, dont waste your time here or ask the servers what is fresh for the day. Otherwise, you might order and get frozen preheated food. I personally wont be coming back to this restaurant. Its a big disappointment, and i wont be wasting more of my hardworking money here.

First trip to Barrie and stopped in for lunch. The restaurant is a great space and decorated nicely. Our drinks were good and we would have really liked a second round or maybe some water with our lunch, but once our waiter took our order, he never came to our table again until my wife finally called him over so we could pay and leave. Runners brought the food and the tacos were excellent. We noticed other table were offered hot sauce but because our server never returned, we werent offered any. The best I can say is, I think he forgot we were his table, but first impressions last and we wont back while were in the area.

We think il had a problème in the staff team. A very long time to be served. A lot of conversation between staff member and the boss( he seems to be). Our waitress is fine but one of them is very spécial, ear at à table, not smiling, and work ont table bay table. So we think there is a trouble in it. Meal are good but not expected flavors. Not structure in the service job...so a feeling so so...what a pity!

Was there tonight (Thursday at 530pm) Service was extremely slow, my wife asked for water, and I asked for a beer. As the waiter took 15 plus minutes to see to our drink order we were ready to order food but he insisted to bring out the drinks first. Well we waited another 10 min only for my beer to come out. I ordered a chicken tinga burrito,my wife ordered beef and cheese empanadas, the waiter asked if I wanted guacamole, I said yes and asked for Pico on the side. Waited another 15 min, when the waitress from Inside came out to help bring food to another table. We asked her for the water my wife had ordered and she was rude and gave us a rude staredown. Well the food came out cold,and wrong, my wife received cheese and bean and my food was the most bland Mexican food I have ever eaten. I was told the tinga was spicy. It was not. I did not get guacamole. Asked for the bill and was charged for it all. When confronted about the deficit between what we ordered and what we got, the waiter left. When he came back he removed the Pico from my bill and would not Remove the guacamole which I had not received. Furthermore my wife paid for beef and cheese, all the while she only got bean and cheese. Needless to say, about this restaurant: food was wrong, bland and the service was lacking. I will go as far as to say they do not care about customers. Rude service and dishonest.

Omg!!! Best chimichanga had the chicken and partner had steak our little one had the quasadillas. So much food wonderful atmosphere we ate on the patio. Service was a bit slow but wow packed and even music on a Friday dinner. Vegetarian options: Tons of options and many meal option they are even willing to help keep spice down or add spice which ever your preference Kid-friendliness: Out little one had fun watching the buses and interacting with customers Wheelchair accessibility: Patio not so much atleast not without a little struggle and even entering I didnt see seamless revamping but it would still be doable

This is more of a question/observation, I noticed the toppings for you tacos have been cut back and that barbacoa, arrachera and carne asada are no longer available. Is this a temporary/seasonal change or is there a secret menu that still contains these options if requested?

I recently visited Mexican House in Barrie with a group of eight guests, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. **Service:** The service was very poor. We encountered that our waiter Sebastian was very unprofessional and it looks like is underpaid. Not friendly at all and not common sense. Given our experience, I cannot recommend this place, especially for larger groups. Improvements in both service and staff training are necessary for a better customer experience. To management ..don t Hire people without proper training. ---

Visited this spot for the very first time while I was waiting for the bus to get back to Toronto. The staff at the restaurant was very attentive and always check on us to make sure we are holding. The atmosphere was great also with the nice Mexican theme decor and Latino music playing in the background. The food was plentiful and inexpensive. I was really surprised by this given its location. I had the beef quesadilla that came with fries and I was full afterwards. I would stop there again and try other things on the menu.

5 Stars authentic mexican cuisine.

Service was excellent. Food was very good. The tamales were really good, very good ratio between filling and Masa. The entrees are deceivingly large. Order wisely. Drinks were pretty good too, just a tad sweet on the lime Marg on the rocks for my liking but still good. Pricing is very reasonable. A good visit for lunch. Gracias!

Really enjoyed a dinner here with a good friend recently. Great authentic Mexican food with lots of seafood options. Wonderful summer patio with views of Lake Simcoe and stylish decor inside the restaurant. Friendly servers. Great selection of drinks, including cocktails.

I recently visited The Mexican House in downtown Barrie, Ontario. The decoration and music were absolutely lovely, creating a wonderful atmosphere that really brought you into the vibrant Mexican culture. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the ambiance. It was quite bland, and the meat was dry. Additionally, the tables weren t very clean, which was a bit off-putting. To top it off, the next morning I had a bit of the runs in the washroom. Overall, while the setting was fantastic, the food, cleanliness, and after-effects were disappointing.

This place has been incredible since it was a humble little shop near Dunlop and Anne. 5 years later they are still producing quality food meal after meal. The best Mexican you can find without a long flight and certainly the best in Canada. You cant really go wrong no matter what you order. Thank you for not compromising on quality after all these years!

Our server. Never gave us a complimentary bask of chips, which every other table got. Afterwards our food came never ever asked ifvwe wanted more drinks. I had to ask 3 servers to bring water. We waited 1/2 hour for him to ask us about if we waited dessert. When we flagged him down for dessert he told us they had no more cake. Meanwhile other tables were getting cake. And to top it all off he made sure every person at our table gave him a 18% tip. For the WORST service in a restaurant I have ever had.

In less than half-busy dinery they take order, making you wait for about 15 minutes. Then you wait 40 minutes for the food, they forget to bring something you ordered. People, who came later get their food earlier ( obviously because Mexican guy was waiter s friend ). You ask guy for extra ketchup and guacamole. He never brings it. Staff being hectic and chilled ( more not giving a sh1t about you ) in the same time. Food is very average or more likely not disgusting . Actually the worst Mexican restaurant I ve ever been to. If this gets so many stars - I feel sorry for people they consider this service and food as top-quality.

Overall, my visit here was highly unsatisfactory. The combination of poor service, subpar food, and an unwelcoming atmosphere made for a thoroughly unpleasant dining experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are many other establishments where the staff is courteous, the food is prepared with care, and the environment is pleasant. I will certainly not be returning for sure. Waitress Manu if I remember correctly is very rude and zero skills. Had to ask for water twice, no spoon or fork has been given with the food. Quesadilla was a joke tacos were not fresh.

The food and service were really good. The live band is talented but needs a sound engineer as it was loud enough for a concert hall even though the band was only 2 feet from our table. We left our party early because it was too loud to think let alone talk. Food

service was a little slow. or maybe I wasnt aggressive enough with just flagging someone down. food was great. waited 20 mins for water. the booze showed up before that. again food made it worth the wait.

Food was good, tacos were a fair sized portions (3 was enough). You could not mix n match taco fillings, we order 3 servings and split them up. The Pastor taco was the best (one of the right), pork & pineapple. Nothing spectacular, but I would go back. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options

Best place ever Ever since Cinco de mayo we had made this our Friday night home. The band is absolutely fabulous Its a real homey feeling here. If youve never been head on down. They are now family and we love them. Cant wait to see you again soon

If you want good authentic Mexican food, great service and good prices COME HERE!! Friends and I came in last week and we were blown away by everything here. Whatever you guys got going on in that magic kitchen keep it up!! Vegetarian options: Not a vegetarian myself but my friend got a veggie chimichanga and i usually don t like the vegetarian alternatives at most places but it was packed with delicious flavours, really can t go bad with this place or the people.

My husband and I came here spur of the moment and were happy we did. The service was very friendly and nice; the atmosphere was perfect and as colourful as youd hope a Mexican place would be; and the food was definitely delicious and authentic! Would highly recommend.

The chimichanga was delicious! The guac and chips were more on the spicy side. Overall, the food was good and the portion was larger than anticipated. The restaurant itself has really traditional decor, which was really fun.

I wish I could rate this restaurant a 0 star but unfortunately I can t. I was beyond disappointed with the quality of food served tonight. I ordered two quesadillas with fries. The fries were soggy, greasy, and lacked in quantity. The portion was really small. I also ordered tacos, and when I opened the container, it was an absolute mess. I couldn t even pick up my tacos to eat them. They were completely soggy and greasy. Finally, I ordered churros and they were soggy as well. When I complained about the food and asked to receive a refund, and to show them how bad the food was. The only thing they offered me was a $25 card to come back and get something else. My bill was $95 dollars and it went to complete waste because the food was unedible. The only thing good about this place was the bartender and the drinks. I will never come back to this restaurant.

Thats our 5th time coming here and this place never disappoints , for me its the best place for mexican food in barrie after trying the other ones , the food is always good and amazing here My favourite that you should give a try is the Chicken quesadillas , and also the Churro doughnuts . The staff is friendly and you can t go wrong with having a good time here .

The service was amazing, no one was left with an empty drink and they were very quick to serve the food and clean it up afterwards. We absolutely loved the band and Sal kept the party going! He had the whole table singing and dancing. I would go here everyday just for the band honestly, but the food, service, atmosphere and staff were just the cherries on top!

They are one of the best Mexican food restaurants in Canada. They especially have a very delicious michelada and look, I have tried many, but this is the best and it is made by my good friend Eduardo. I invite you to try these delicious little dishes of Mexican cuisine and long live Mexican House.

I came here in person and let me begin by saying the atmosphere is very authentic Mexican. I was served totopos with a delicious home made chunky salsa that was not too spicy for our taste palat but very delicious with its smoky chipotle flavours. I ordered the tongue tacos and a traditio Mexican coffee. I was not disappointed! The tongue was nicely cooked, although a bit greasy to my personal liking but for the standard its expected. It was served with the option of cilantro and onion - which of course one cannot eat tacos without. Wedges of lime were provided along with two types of home made salsas, green (less spicy made of jalepeño base) and red (more spicy made of probably what tasted of chipotle or habanero - I prefered the overall taste of this one even though it had more of a kick). Although I dont have much of a sweet tooth and would have preferred my coffee less sweet; it was a nice finish to my meal. It was premade with sugar and another condiment I am not familiar with served without milk or milk substitutes - trust me they were not needed. The coffee sure woke me up after my meal and gave me the energy needed to continue on with my day. The menu options are ENORMOUS. It was hard to chose one item to order. I will be returning to try more dishes and perhaps see live bands or shows. They have a specific section for vegetarian/ vegans. Doesn t mean that there aren t vegetarian or vegan options throughout the menu! It s part of the culture too! Dietary restrictions: I had gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago and can easily find food options in an authentic Mexican restaurant menu such as this one. You can also make changes no problem. Kid-friendliness: It s always all about the kids. The culture is always family oriented and you can see it through the owners and their family working together in the business. They have highchairs and anything else needed to attend your little munchkins needs.

Mexican restaurant where the dishes are Colombian, the pastor doesnt taste like anything and the green enchiladas no longer taste good. They didnt even give us cutlery to eat. I would go better somewhere else.

I am Mexican and when I came the first times I loved coming and eating dishes that had a lot of Mexican flavor but the last times I came the taste of the food is no longer the same, the quality of several of the dishes that were already there dropped a lot. eaten before several times. And this last time I ordered empanadas for the first time and when I bit into it I realized that the filling was different and the waiter told me that it was a Colombian empanada which is not specified on the menu and does not taste at all like a Mexican empanada even though it is not a very complicated dish as the manager said. Im just very disappointed because it was my favorite restaurant before.

Ordered Uber Eats delivery from this restaurant recently. The restaurant called to inform us that they were out of all the items we had ordered. So naturally we asked them to cancel the order. Instead of marking the order as being canceled due to unavailability of the items, the restaurant marked the cancelation as being requested by the customer after food preparation had already begun. We were charged the full amount by Uber for an order that we wanted but didnt receive. Thankfully Uber has good customer service and we were able to get them to reverse the charge. To conclude, we will never order from or eat at this restaurant again as we do not appreciate their dishonesty and unethical way of doing business.

Been here many visits, food is great, but always long wait from the moment you walk in till you get the bill paid, long wait to get first round of drinks, and even longer wait to get your food. I d give them the benefit of the doubt but this is the experience I have everytime, service and management needs some improvement.

My husband and I came for dinner for the first time last evening. It was Valentine s Day so we came early because my hubby tried to book a reservation online but there was nothing there. We were so thankful that we were able to get a table but told it could only be for an hour. No problem! We were absolutely wowed! Excellent service, delicious food and we loved the band! We stayed true to our word and was out in an hour We can t wait to come back!

I debated on making this review as I m a fan of this family owned restaurant, however I thought if nothing was said this may happen to someone else. We have always had a great experience, however today I was very disappointed with our service. Our server was a tall gentleman with a ponytail. We came to celebrate my mothers Birthday. 1st and foremost they never brought out the sauces they usually do. We were the only table without sauce and we felt uncared for. when we placed our order my husband asked for a quesadilla with chicken, for whatever reason the server said chimichanga . We are NOT Mexican, although we are Latino so we don t know what chimichanga is let alone order it. My husband figured this is what they call their quesadilla and said I guess . We also asked for the arrachera where the server said those are 2 big plates and I let him know we were aware and that it was to share. The plates came and when my husband got his plate it was clear that there was a mistake and we told the server this is not what we ordered, he tried to convince us that we did and that this was not his mistake and that it was OURS. I was appalled as I ve never experienced this kind of service in any restaurant I ve ever been in. I told him to please take it away as it was not what we wanted. He asked if I wanted the quesadilla on top but that we would be charged for both plates and I told him we don t want the chimichanga and he kept saying it was not his fault so it will be on the bill. I didn t want to make a scene on my mothers birthday and politely asked that he take it away. My husband asked for a cake for my mom, so the servers came and sang Happy Birthday , when I heard one of the Servers ( who usually works the bar) sing happy Birthday Pochita thinking I would not hear it, I m not Mexican but I m Latina and this to me was disrespectful. When I thought it wouldn t get worse, we asked for the bill and the server put the chimichanga on our bill and gave us a to go bag to take it. In all honestly It felt like a slap to the face. They might as well have spat in my food. I honestly don t know if I could get over this. They saved $20 on a plate we never wanted and lost a long term customer. Very sad. I feel bad for the owner who has built a great reputation to see it ruined by unsupervised staff.

Everything we had was so good we came back dinner time with the kids. Everything was delightful. Birria tacos fajitas , the horchata drink simply delicious. Priced well and eating with lake view was cherry on cake.
