Below average in all ways - owner unaccommodating; server suggested combination on pre-priced menu then up-charged on bill; halibut poor quality; not one item amongst us was enjoyable; and so on!

Fish was overcooked, vegetables are frozen not fresh , chips were just edible. I would never go back.

Went to fancys for fish and chips..The 5 oz. fish portion was small, dry and mostly batter..Small portion of fries..Services was good..We will need to find another fish place

Went with my wife and friends, food was excellent, and our server was great. I will be back!!!

My last three visits, marred first receiving rancidvtasting fries, halibut was good. Second time rings instead of fries ended up costing $3 more instead of $2, and final visit this week i was short changed on bowl of chowder volume wise, half that of previous orders, haddock this time was soggy, not lightly battered as requested but rings not bad. Great servers, but in lamely defending back of house, push the problem back at the customers, being too critical. Consistent prep quality coupled with fair portions for the price demanded are no longer at Fancys. Neither will I.

Excellent friendly service. Little disappointed in fish. Coating crumbled every time you cut into fish and fell apart making it hard to put altogether on fork. Coleslaw delicious and French fries okay. Sorry not my best dining experience for fish and chips.

Very prompt and attentive service. Nicely fried handcut French fries and tasty battered haddock. We also enjoyed the flavourful clam chowder.

I am east coaster and VERY picky with my seafood. Had the battered halibut and scallops. Both were cooked to perfection. We had two waitresses and they were fantastic. The seafood is so fresh and you have to give it a try

Havent been here in a few years, so went in with wife on Tuesday. Had fish tacos special, good portions and price, freshly made and battered/fried, not a proportioned frozen industrial product. Wife had salmon pan fried special. Generous portion as well. Hand cut fresh fries, fresh made in house coleslaw. Seniors get a 10% Tuesday discount. They get a lot of seniors and locals, give them a try...

East coast style fish and chips house. Waitress was great, food was great, prices were fantastic. Thursday special Haddock and chips 14.99. My new regular spot!

Came here for dinner on a whim with the kids, my picky toddler loved the food Great east coast vibe, and flavors. Was able to have a nice family dinner with great service. We will definitely be coming back. We had the haddock/chips, chicken fingers/chips Food : 5/5

Ordered 2 halibut and chips with an extra piece of fish. The 2 orders were pretty good, but when I cut the extra piece of fish only half had had fish and it was undercooked somehow. That seemed a bit odd to me.

Went for my first time in years recently to get some take-out. Everything was still hot when we got into it about 10 minutes later so thats good, however everyone found that the fries were a bit under cooked and the fish really held onto the grease it was fried in, usually just from the oil not being hot enough. Would definitely go back when it was less busy to see what the fish is like at its best! Parking: Small parking lot shared with other businesses, gets full fast at busy times

We went to Fancys for their reopening night. The food was so good! Im not a fish eater and I loved the fried halibut! The service was also great and very friendly. 100% will be going again!

Went in on Jan 25, 2023. Great to see them open again. Reno looks great. Ordered 2 Halibut dinners, coleslaw and garlic bread. It took about 5-10 minutes for take out. Steaming hot. Tasted great. Been a long time waiting for that meal. Best in town.

Always my favourite place to get fish and chips. Been coming here for decades and have never been let down on anything I tried off the menu. Great food, amazing staff, and awesome management.

I bought enough food and told my kids to come over ! We threw out 80 percent of it ! It was uneatable absolutely terrible !! Batter was hard and fish was like a piece of rubber even fries tasted oily

Table service was great. Very friendly. Explained the menu and options. Shrimp app was good as they prepped our mains. Very good walleye ( just a cpl rib bones missed but...) pan fried. Very good halibut and chips. The homemade tartar sauce was yummy. Our waitress was a hoot. Our friend from Germany totally enjoyed the experience. Good old fashion customer appreciation. Will be back for sure!

We haven t ate in here for years. Thought we would try it and we were very pleasantly surprised. The halibut was fantastic and the portions are large. The renos look great. Our waitress Kelcey was excellent. So friendly and efficient. We will be back.

Nice new clean atmosphere since reopening..food was as I remember it from years ago. It has become our fish and chip place again.

Stopped in on a whim. It was a good thing. Fresh cut fries were excellent and a good portion. The fish was a thick cut with light batteries. Fresh and delicious. Clam strips were also a good portion. Staff were courteous, helpful and friendly. Gave us lots of condiments and napkins for take out.

Excellent!!! Had the haddock fish and onion rings. The service was attentive and personable, the prices reasonable, and serving sizes were large enough to take part of it home for another scrumptious meal. The thing that would always keep me coming back are the flavours, my taste buds certainly danced!!! The fish was tender, flavourful and the batter was crispy and not greasey. They make their tartar sauce from scratch and boy is it good!!! The coleslaw was creamy and tasty, and the onion rings were fabulous! Thank you for a great meal, I would definitely come back!!!

Grew up going to this place, was sad that it had closed, so decided to give it a go now that its reopened. The best thing I can say about it, is that the batter and house tartar sauce were very good. The halibut potions seem much smaller than they used to be, the haddock was also small, and was a tail not a loin which was disappointing. The fries were fine. We ordered the large portions of halibut/fries with the extra piece of haddock so we could try it. To my recollection I used to have left over after ordering a large portion ( without the extra fish) but that doesnt seem to be the case any longer. I truly wish this place well as its been a staple in Barrie for decades but I dont think its for us anymore. For the same price as I spent, Im stuffed to the gills from other places with better cuts of fish.

Went to Fancys for the first time yesterday, and was NOT disappointed! The food is awesome (fish done properly, golden crispy batter, great fries & coleslaw), the service is perfect, and the decor is really neat! I will definitely be going back to Fancys, and also recommending it to other as well! Also, the prices are affordable!

Ordered the small portion ofhalibut. It was mostly batter and so small a child would still be hungry. Yhe strangest part was we were there two weeks prior and our waiter felt portion was too small and didnt even serve just took back to kitchen

Having checked out a number of F&C places in town I finally found a place that knows how to make a great batter. The fries where great as well. Prices are high as they are everywhere. Ill be back.

My husband, our son and I were looking so forward for a good fish and chip. They recently opened up from being closed from Covid and flood and I thought lets try it out and support local business. The halibut dinner came 3oz or 5. We were hungry ,so we said 5oz. The piece was no bigger than a frozen fish from the box. The fish was all crispy batter with no fish. The fish was soooooooo chewy. We had 2 pops and 1 draft, with tip $100.00. Very disappointing. Stay home and save your money

Have been a few times with my disabled parent. It is nearly impossible to get a wheelchair through the doors and no automatic button to assist. Small ledge/lip at both door frames make it challenging not to tip the wheelchair forward. We mentioned it to the server (who was lovely to deal with) and she advised it passed code for accessibility in Barrie. I would challenge that pass and ask the owner/manager to try to get a wheelchair through the doors themselves, while pushing a person with disabilities. I do not think we will be able to go back until this is fixed as it is embarrassing for my parent to have staff or other patrons rushing over to assist all the while literally tipping the wheels up and my parent having to lean back to pass through. Wheelchair accessibility: Definitely not easy to maneuver wheelchair through entrance doors

Great chips but small portions though

First time going and I ll be back, food was amazing and service was exceptional, Amanda is so nice, fast, friendly.

Large portions and best I ve had in Barrie.

The restaurant was very clean, waitress was pleasant. The food was very good. But I like crispy chips and the chunky fries dont lend themselves well to that. The halibut was good, batter was light and crispy. I really enjoyed the big dish of coleslaw. Frenchs ketchup takes a back seat to Heinz in my opinion though. Overall was a good dinner.

We had the haddock Thursday special. It was very good. Our waitress was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. The atmosphere was very clean, cozy and comfortable.

Always dependable for great fish and chips. Always thought they were at the high end of pricing for take out until i went to a couple of other places. You get what you pay for and value is hreat here. Highly recommend.

I had the fried pickerel, fries and coleslaw. Started with battered mushrooms. Ended with rice pudding and raisins. It was yummy. Waitress was really friendly.

I am sorry to say this was the worst experience I have had. We waited to be seated like the sign said - we were ignored for 15 minutes. That was clue #1 we should have left. Someone finally came over and told us to sit anywhere and someone would be right over, so we did. We waited another 30 minutes before anyone bothered to come to the table. Took our drink orders and made an excuse that they were very busy . The restaurant was less than half full!!! Three other couples arrived after us and they were all served before us. We were not impressed at all The waitress came by to confirm the order. It was as if she lost the order! Apologies made for the wait but food was coming Another 15 minutes and finally dinner arrived We had the haddock dinners. This was awful The fish was hard, overcooked and greasy The chips were not good either overcooked and just terrible and you could tell that the oil in the fryer had not been changed in ages. Everything tasted rancid. I was hopeful that it would be a good place to eat as there were good reviews but alas it was not to be. On the upside the bathroom was tired but clean.

Halibut dinner fantastic fish perfectly golden brown like you want it ! Light crispy superb! Super thick cut home fries also a perfect 10/10 Side of massive Jumbo shrimp also crazy good breaded to perfection. Only surprise was the tarter sauce in a pack. Maybe they ran out of homemade?

Was so disappointed with our order. The fries were not seasoned and seemed like there was grit on some of them, the fish was very greasy, a gravy was missing. I will have to find a different place to get my fish and chips

We were passing through Barrie and went for fish and chips on recommendation of a friend. The restaurant has an old family restaurant feel to it. Service was very friendly. Food came out very quickly and was fantastic. Chips were crispy, yet tender(super tasty). Fish was best Ive had in a long time.

Over the past few months we have ordered take out numerous times. The food has always been great and represents good value. Last week, our order included french fries which were well over done to the point o being almost inedible. Hopefully this was a one off situation

The best Fish and Chips in Barrie!!! I have tried 4 others and this place not only has the least greasy fry but the staff are amazing and feels like family. The price is a few dollars more but the portions size and thickness of the halibut is worth it. Long family owned history and the they still cut their halibut by hand every day. Great hand cut fries as well. I try to reduce my gluten and they can make the batter extra light as well. Will be back soon.

So I just ordered dinner from here to surprise my mother and she is very disappointed. She usually eats at other places and wanted to try somewhere new as she loves her traditional fish and chips dinner. I ordered the Haddock and Chips dinner. She was surprised to see that the dinner didnt even come with a lemon, side salad of any kind or coslaw and how SMALL the portion size is for the price. We did order through Uber Eats.

We have had a few issues in the past few months. This last order will be our last order. It was terrible portions small and even lacking fish in the batter the fries were mush (not just cold but mush) Chicken fingers were puny and salmon two small pieces charred. I have tried to talk with the manager who tries to makes excuses and makes you feel like it s your fault. I also just learned that the original owner has sold the business. This now makes total sense as the original owners would never have been this dismissive. We ve been going there for over 45 years but won t be returning.

Always great food and great service. Weve been going to Fancys for years and have never been disappointed. The portions are large and always fresh. Older restaurant but always clean with a relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Havent been here for some time. Wow, what a difference. It was good before but its fantastic now. Everything was light and crispy, nice portion sizes, great value for the prices. The fries are a massive improvement over the previous owners fries, like night and day. Great job to Mike and the crew.

Definitely the best seafood restaurant Ive ever experienced. The food is incredibly tasty, the staff are great (they make sure youre getting what you need/want without hovering ) and the atmosphere is pleasant. Usually I go there for dinner but recently decided to try having fish & chips delivered. It arrived in the condition I would have gotten had I been in the restaurant - beautiful crispy outside, fluffy & light inside and the chips werent greasy at all. If you havent been here youre missing out on a great place.

I ordered a large Halibut with fries around 1 pm. Take out. Service was fast. I returned to the office to eat. The halibut, which was very small, appeared over cooked and thin. I tried cutting through with a sharp knife and was unable to cut it. I scraped what I could from the fish and tasted it. It was not chew-able. Taste was horrible. Sorry but this is the second time I have ordered there and was not impressed the first time. But once is not a good test so I went back. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me. They did offer to replace the order but by now my lunch break was over and I was not going to try for a third disappointment.

We use to go there all the time it had been quite awhile since we had been there and it has really went down hill we wont be back we will stick to Dannys fish and chips in Barrie the waitress was not very friendly we were the only table in there and the food took a long time the shrimp were over cooked the shrimp sauce was terrible didnt taste like shrimp sauce the tarter sauce was terrible tasted like vinegar the garlic bread didnt have much cheese which they charge $3.00 for and it was hard I think it was heated in the microwave the only good thing was the macaroni salad they dont have a 2 piece halibut dinner its 13.50 for just 1 piece of halibut the whole menu is over priced for the portions you get and the quality of food

I Was craving fish and chips and my husband suggested we go here. We had the haddock dinner Was not disappointed! Good portions, fresh homemade fries and a huge piece of fish with coleslaw. The glasses were chilled a small luxury but makes a big difference.The waitress was so nice and the restaurant was nice and clean and the prices were very reasonable. Less than 40$ for two meals with a beer. 1000% recommend going here and will be coming back.

I have been going to Fancys with my Family for 20 years and it has always been amazing! Best fish and chips in town without a doubt.

Authentic fish and chips and more plus they have great new owners that want to carry on the tradition of Fancys and bring in new ideas!

Used to be the greatest halibut and fries on the planet ...changed the fries recently to some kind of disgusting half burnt/half uncooked fry. My family have been going here for 30+ years and its unfortunate that we are now on the hunt for a new fish and chip spot. The fish is still incredible, but the new fries are awful.
