Went here for an anniversary dinner. Food was great. Intimate atmosphere.

Waited 2 hours for our food and then when It arrived it was not what I ordered. Will not be coming back and do not recommend to anyone.

Came here alone ! Oysters were amazing, pasta was amazing! Wine A+ , and the service was great!

Let me just start off with, i never write google reviews. I m more of an is what it is type person, but I felt like this needed to be done. Took my wife tonight for our 19th anniversary, we have been to thousands of restaurants over the course of these 19 years. Let me tell you something . The north barrie is nothing short of amazing!! We had muscles, sushi, short rib and the sirloin with arugula pear and almond salad!! Literally the best steak I think I have ever eaten.. cooked to perfection. Everything was so good that we will be back once a week!! The service, the atmosphere and the chef are all amazing. I recommend this place. 20/10! Great job!!!!

It was my girlfriends birthday. We went all out! 6 or 7 different creations. Tenderloin, Ribs, Salmon, Lamb and others. Great food with amazing tastes. MARCO is an artist, passionate , especially considering my girlfriend is allergic to shellfish. He was limited to what he could create.

Had dinner here, visiting Canada it was the best place I have ever eaten. I will return from Colombia. Great.

My husband and I had our first date at the North. It s always been a special place for us. The atmosphere is amazing. The service is top notch and the food is always amazing.

The food was very disappointed we ordered sushi rolls, calamari salad and prosciutto with goat cheese. The sushi were full of oil, too big and with no taste. Prosciutto was dry . Calamari were rubbery We shared our dissatisfaction with a waitress. And we were really surprised when we received a bill. We were billed for drinks only. Thanks a lot!

If I could give this restaurant more stars I would. Everything from start to finish was perfect. Such a relaxing and cozy ambience. Service was wonderful. And the food was incredible. 10/10. I recommend the New York strip loin, my husband got the short rib and loved it as well.

We were there for New Years dinner, as always great service, great food and the atmosphere is amazing. Thank you to all of the staff especially the waitress that entertained us until 12;30.

My husband and I came to The North to celebrate an early Valentines Day. The servers were all very friendly and polite when we arrived. We were seated immediately and our orders were taken and served promptly. We both ordered the oysters to start and they were amazing! My husband ordered the duck breast for his main, and I ordered the lamb rack. The duck meal was a bit of a smaller portion but my husband says it was delicious nonetheless. My lamb rack meal was incredible and was a good-sized portion. For dessert, my husband got the vanilla cheesecake and I ordered the ginger creme brule. Both desserts were excellent! We will definitely be back! Thanks for a wonderful night

You could drive by this place and never know its there. Parking around back. Kinda sketchy. Food was beyond amazing (Im a total foodie). We were the only ones in the restaurant. Everything we had was delicious. Chef made my partner a special dessert platter, on the house. Would definitely go back.

Went to the North Restaurant for my Mothers birthday and it was a very nice place for a quiet, chef inspired meal. Service was great and food was very good.

Spent an evening with friends over dinner here and had a great time, good food with wide selection, simple but good wine selection, great service and very pleasant and helpful staff. Another next level experience! I didnt think the chefs could out do the chefs plate. They did, with a pairing night. Please do more! My wife and I had a fantastic night. Food 10/10, service first class, live music was excellent and the people we sat with were a blast.

Marlene O, Matty and Spencer make this place. This was a spot I was so sceptical to try being a picky eater. But knowing it to be the boujie spot in town , I wanted to try! Aside from the gorgeous drinks and amazing wine list I ve tried multiple times, the food ended up being AMAZING!!! They were so accommodating to my lack of palate . Friendly warm and welcoming spot , I couldn t imagine going anywhere else after this experience. GREAT JOB GUYs!

This restaurant will be the reason I stop eating out for a long time. Food made me violently vomit once home and other unpleasantries. I have an iron stomach, can eat anything but this place got me bad. Trust me avoid it. Service was fine but everything else is dreadful including the stuffy room and paper menus nothing elevated here.

A wonderful dining experience! We recently (July 6th) met a friend at The North for our annual dinner in celebration of several life-events we three share. This year included a couple of extra special birthdays - so we wanted somewhere particularly memorable. We had not been to The North since the days when it was on Dunlop. We were all very impressed! Located in a beautifully renovated, historic home - it is at once welcoming, updated and upscale. The dining area seating and decor create an intimate atmosphere which added to the personalized waitering service that was excellent. We made a couple of requests wrt the menu which were easily accommodated. The dinners ordered were delicious. The sample dessert trio was a fabulous, special treat - and a perfect ending! The evening exceeded our expectations - thanks so much for making our celebration so enjoyable and memorable.

This is our favourite special night out spot. The service is always fantastic, the food is AMAZING, and it s such a great atmosphere. This last time, we sat out on the patio and it couldn t have been a more perfect night!

We travelled to Barrie from Toronto for a wedding and this place was recommend to us! So unbelievably impressed. The oysters were so fresh, we had the lamb and scallops, both were beautifully cooked. Our server, Ivana was very competent, polite and made our experience feel special. Our new fav place in Barrie.

The North has been a long time favourite. They have an amazing menu, amazing staff, and a beautiful quiet environment for a nice intimate night out!

2023: 2/5 (really should be 1.5/5) The place looks really nice, the servers are friendly though a bit slow with bringing food and drink, the food = over salted (for the most part), took forever to arrive, not cooked properly (for the most part)... Before I begin, I have to say most in our group wanted me to rate this as a 1/5 as the food they had was horribly spiced...I included photos of some of the items... Drinks: 3/5 - Most of the mixed drinks were mainly ice though tasted good for the top part, tasted like a slushie without flavour for the bottom part... Food: 1/5 - Most of the food was OVERSALTED...one person at our table asked for WELL DONE steak and got it MEDIUM RARE...sent it back twice and it was still MEDIUM at best...another asked for medium well chops and got it a lot more raw...my steak was spiced okay, just was COLD TO THE TOUCH...like they had cooked mine first and then left it to wait while they cooked/rushed the other foods (I ordered medium well for the record)...NOT nice, a cold steak never tastes as good as it could... The servers, they were friendly, though they took a while to bring our food and drinks (OVER AN HOUR and A HALF for our food) Anyhow they were friendly which is the ONLY reason this is not a 1/5 rating...well that and the decor of the place, it was kinda nice, no 5/5 for the decor but a solid 3.5/5 to 4/5 for the decor...just you come for the food, and THE FOOD WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL OVERALL... Parking: Really depends what time you go in relation to getting parking...the paid lots were pretty filled up when we went, free street parking was available...

Ordered seared swordfish $34 for myself and Fettuccine Beef Brisket $32 for my friend. Fish was okay but honestly tasteless. My side dish Sundried Tomato Risotto was so salty that I literally thought the chief put more than a few grains of salt in it. And the fettuccine was a total disaster. I mean, look at the ingredients. Simply order a $10 beef brisket noodle soup from any Chinese restaurant and I guarantee you ll be more satisfied, or order 3 bowls for triple happiness with the same money. Never ever going back again.

The service and food at The North was impeccable. Marco s cooking was excellent as always, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I would highly recommend The North to anyone looking for a delicious meal and great atmosphere.

I have eaten a lot of calamari in my time and I honestly think that this calamari may have been the best that I ve ever tasted in my life! It was cooked to perfection and the medley of flavours was flawless. The pear and arugula salad is absolutely to die for and the service was incredible! I can t wait to go back to The North and try more of the amazing Chef Marco s creations.

Amazing food! We tried 4 small sides and two mains. Lovely interior fine dining. A wonderful, heartfelt waitress served us this evening amd she was 10/10. Highly recommend for cute dates or a nice birthday evening!

Great food, great service as usual!

To be honest the offerings (food, facilities, service) quite simply dont match the price. At half the price (literally) there would maybe be a match. I dont like to write negative reviews generally, so suffice it to say the issues were the same as others related by 3* or less reviews. The food was overwrought and just okay (at best). One server was very nice, while the other was terse and made us feel like a burden. There are better places to spend your money in Barrie. Unfortunately, a disappointing experience.

Food and service are alright. If you come in a group, make sure to look at your bill before paying. Interac machines were placed directly infront of us while our bills were placed to the side face down. There was no mention of the automatic 18% gratuity, so most of our group accidentally double tipped for mediocre service. Pretty shady if you ask me.

Did not disappoint at all. Server was super friendly and ontop of everything. Food tasted amazing. Steak perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. I highly recommend this place and Ill be back for sure. Perfect place for our 26th anniversary dinner.

The food was outstanding!!

Went for a Birthday Dinner/Date Night with my wife. Reviews talked about how good the food was and the little bit we had was fantastic. Dinning room had a private event and we were seated in the lounge which was not an issue. Table was not level, no big deal slid over a seat. New chair was not level. Went to the washroom upstairs, light switch did not work, lamp in washroom had a twist know that worked but was hard to find. No paper towel in the washroom. Order and app, was asked to order rest of food wasnt ready. Was about to order an additional app, asked to order all food right away and if we wanted it slowed down we could ask the kitchen to do that. Our romantic night out at a high end restaurant with a sitter at home ended after 35 mins and an appetizer (though the app was delicious) went to a brewery afterwards for our main and had a great night. Food Great, everything else not worthy of the money.

I honestly really like the place. I had the pear arugula salad..... soooo good!!! To all my vegetarian friends, that salad is too yummy to pass. Theres paying parking in the front of the establishment. Prices are relatively low. Less than 30 bucks for a drink and the salad. The service is good and the decor is really cute, perfect for a date or a group outing. I will definitely be back. 5 stars

CAUTION!!! HIDDEN CHARGE ADDED TO BILL!!! Have a close look at the out-of-date menu posted on the website. The Half Dozer Oyster s and Smoked Beed Tenderloin should have been a hint at the experience awaiting us. This restaurant is not as fine or fancy as its high prices suggest. I will say the proteins we ordered (grilled calamari, duck breast, rack of lamb) were very well cooked, and the complimentary curried zucchini spread was very nice (though the bread was stale with the texture of drywall). But the vegetables were over done, the rice was undercooked, and everything was absolutely drowning in excessively salty sauce - I needed a spoon just to find the rack of lamb hiding at the bottom of my dish and my wife s duck was completely submerged. I ll give credit to the creativity and the attempt at presentation but the resulting meal was a disappointing failure. I could further comment on the unbalanced table, the flaking paint on the wall, the tacky pillows, the floor lamp in the corner that leans at an awkward angle, the bent and twisted Venetian blinds, the food-stained and crumpled paper menus, the out-of-place 90s soft rock playlist, or the tank-topped bros (not patrons) with beer bottles in hand passing through the dining area on their way in and out of the restaurant s back door, but none of that distracts from just how disappointing the food experience was. This restaurant should close immediately and the owner/chef should be ashamed!

My husband and I have been here a couple of times now. Both times the service has been amazing and the food is to die for! Everything is cooked to perfection and the flavour combinations are incredible. We love that everything is completely made in house, so not only is it an enjoyable night out, but you can feel good about the food youre eating and that youre supporting local.

We ordered the rib and wing combo and enjoyed every bite! The kentucky bbq sauce was delicious, and the comeback sauce was perfect with fries. I spoke with Mark on the phone, and he answered all of my allergy concerns. Will definitely eat here again!

Not impressed. Trying to support local during these difficult Covid times. Tried to place a takeout order due to Covid to celebrate my husband s birthday. There was no answer on the phone at 5:15 which was surprising since they request orders in by 6pm Thursday for Friday pickup. Tried to leave an email on the website but got a msg saying the email was no longer available. Also sent an email for the owner. No response.

Drove an hour and they took us in right away an hour before closing. Ivana was a great help! She made sure our order was perfectly made and made great conversation with us which made the experience very enjoyable. Food was perfect and definitely worth the drive! Will definitely go back one day!! Thank you Ivana!

My girlfriend and I went to the North Restaurant tonight and had an absolutely fantastic time. The food was fantastic and the service was personable and far exceeded our expectations. We even had a wonderful chat with the Chef/owner. 100% will be returning and thank you to our server.

Hands down the best restaurant in Barrie. The food is unbelievably creative. Familiar dish s taste different & way better then anything you could have experienced any where ells. The fettuccine Alfredo was the best I have ever had touch my taste buds & many more! The employees are amazingly comforting and easy to talk to when approached! The comfort and privacy levels are 10/10 & the music is always perfect! You can not fined a better place to go for dinner, lunch or just to get away for a few hours! The North Restaurant is definitely something special And worth the experience!!

Ordered Mothers Day Special this Mothers Day Crab Cake with Mango and Fennel Salad Grilled Striploin with Baked Potato, Caramelized Onion, Hoisin Glazed Baby Bok Choy, King Mushroom Cheesecake with Fresh Berry Compote Everything was done to perfection. Delivery was on time. Food was hot and well packaged in foil to keep hot. This was by far the best all round meal I have had in Barrie. The food pairings were scrumptious and there was lots. Dessert was fantastic!

Amazing as always!

Amazing food and generous amount of food. The waitresses were really kind and thoughtful. I ve never waited that long to get a plate (45 minutes between each plate) but we decided to take it as a good reminder that goods things take time.

We had a birthday dinner last night for my hubby and it was absolutely delicious. Everyone s meals were thoughtfully prepared, and they even made a special pasta for our 3 year old. Service was impeccable. Friendly, yet professional - this is our new favourite spot in Barrie. Cheers !

We had our first indoor dining since the Pandemic began. Well worth the 55min drive to celebrate a very special occasion. Service, staff and quality is better than or even better than any high end restaurant in Toronto. See for yourself. Thanks to the staff and Master Chef for their amazing food and deserts.

First time coming out to Barrie , we tried out this restaurant the food was amazing, the staff was extra helpful and welcoming , I would recommend everyone to come here

Great food and a wonderful restaurant experience. The staff were very attentive and accomodating. We had a person with an allergy in our group and their needs were met without fuss. Our server was engaging and enteraining and did everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable (we wanted to eat outside and the weather wasnt the best). The food selection was great, with many different options to excite you. It was hard to choose from all the tempting options. All the food was perfectly prepared and exceeded our high expectaions. Would reccomend to anyone.

The Confit chicken breast was amazing! The portion was large, so much that I couldn t eat it all but I wanted to. The Au jus completed the wonderful flavours of the chicken which sat on a huge serving of caramelized onion mashed potatoes, steamed asparagus and slice of squash.

We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at The North. He had the trout and I the lamb shank. The food was OK but not exceptional. The wine list limited and they did not have our first choice. Service was distracted.

Do not be fooled this restaurant is very low quality. I had the 7 course tasting menu and I was violently sick from food poisoning. Im not sure whether it was the sea bass that tasted super fishy and was obviously old or the clearly expired lamb that tasted like it sat around in the hot sun for wa week... I would not reccomend the place to anyone. Please beware or you may find your self with food poisoning as well.

When we arrived we were told they were out of scallops, duck and venison??.... Essentially all of the best entrees. We ended up trying the tasting menu for our first and last trip to The North. The best part about the experience was the tempura shushi roll. The oysters tasted like they were old and very low quality. The beef tartar came with about 4 little chips not nearly enough for more than a tablespoon of tartar. The sea bass was extremely fishy, but the quinoa side it came with was flavourful and well executed. The most disappointing dish was the meat plate, the beef tenderloin and small piece of lamb - could not even eat the lamb....like the oysters it tasted old and was way overcooked. Our server was very friendly so thats why I added a second star.

Our expectations were exceeded in all aspects. To say the food was flavourful is an understatement. Portion size was perfect and choices were surpising; a very unique menu you would not be able to match in Barrie and likely even Toronto. Service was balanced and well paced however I was disappointed to warm chocolate cake had a 20 minute wait time (this should be noted in the menu). However the butter tart was a great alternative. We enjoyed the ambience and comfort of the dining room with adequate room to have a conversation without listening to another table and them hearing to us. Highly recommended. We agreed this should become a tradition for future Christmas Eve dinners.

This is a world class restaurant. We love coming to The North. The menu is constantly changing according to the season. Really beautiful local ingredients are always featured. Chef Marco is very nice and personable and obviously extra talented Chef. We have never had a bad experience here, we have been coming for 10+ years. Beautiful atmosphere. Wine selection is wide. Cocktails very good.

Great service! Food was very good! But my hot chocolate cake was not fully baked and had some wet batter in the middle! My partners banana cream pie was excellent!

My partner and I had a very disappointing experience here this past weekend for our Valentine s Day date. We arrived with high expectations (and a reservation). Upon seeing the main level dining area I was excited because it looked very nice and fancy. However the hostess let us upstairs instead into a small room, seated us at a table in the corner. When we sat down we noticed that we had plain wooden chairs and the rest of the tables in the room had large plush chairs. The waitress did not introduce herself when we arrived and did not bring the complementary bread she said she would get for us. We watched as another couple received their bread. The best part of the night was our sushi tempura starter - amazing. My jumbo shrimp main was not - the shrimp was quite rubbery. My partner asked for his venison to be rare and it came out closer to being medium. I am not sure what the hype is here. If we had been seated in the nice room downstairs perhaps I could have forgave everything else, but we truly felt like a second thought. Unfortunately we won t be back.

Had the prime rib and it was an absolute delight! The flavors were immaculate. I savoured and enjoyed every bite slowly and carefully. The atmosphere is very nice, mellow, music was nice, beautiful decor, service was good. Very nice place for a romantic evening, birthday or other special events.

What a great meal

Very disappointed, for $28 +tx see the picture of what I got, when I open the plat. The waitress was so kind professional and polite, but the restaurant itself is a disaster. Expensive with no class or food presentation. After spending $50 for nothing, I had to go to Popeyes to buy some for the kids at midnight. An advice : Improve or close.

Highly disappointed! Went here years ago at the old location and was blown away by the food and service. Unfortunately, I can not say the same now. During Covid there seemed not to have any proper protocols. We got meals delivered to wrong tables and were going to just switch until my husband said NO, you cant do that anytime especially during Covid so waitress said ok and will comp- however she didnt, she comped a drink and some coffee at the end. When we got there they gave us bread and butter from an empty table or so we thought until people started getting their purses. Guests coming in and out not wearing masks and not being told to wear them(which we believe was a work function because some of the people said sorry for the extreme loudness while carrying drinks they were drinking) after serving food and going out front for cigarettes. The food was ok but not what it used to be. This was our anniversary dinner and I can honestly say we will never be back..

Had my sons first communion at The North Restaurant today and I couldnt have made a better choice....Chef Marco came through once again as always....We gave him a basic idea of what we were thinking and his response was Dont worry, leave it with me and Ill take care it and let me tell you something the food was absolutely phenomenal beginning to end...The appetizers were amazing, the soup was absolutely delicious! We also had halibut which was done to perfection along with the best risotto Ive ever had and the same goes for the steak...Great wine selection as well...I have never been disappointed out of all the times that Ive been to The North and the results still stand the same...Couldnt ask for better...From the food to the waitress its a well deserved A must go to Restaurant...I recommend it to anyone... Wanna send a special thanks to Chef Marco for making this experience so memorable.... THANKS CHEF! Well be definitely coming back with the family to see you in the near future!

Best meal my wife and I have had at a restaurant since we moved to Barrie 6 years ago. Food was exceptional. Look forward going post pandemic to experience a better atmosphere there.

The second time Im going there and I dont like the place the plates were dirty the napkins were smell bad. I ordered a banana pie dessert and instead of custard they put whipping cream and thought its going to be okay without asking me. I definitely not recommend this place.

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere and run by an amazing family!!

I came here for the first time and really enjoyed it. The ambiance is quite nice. I tried a few different cocktails and they were yummy. I got the sirloin dish which was incredible! We also had oysters and beef carpaccio at the table which I didnt have but was told they were really good. The oysters come with a lot of toppings you can use which is impressive. Overall I was quite impressed and would return here.

1st time here and I can say this has been added to my fave restos.. atmosphere is very cozy and chic.. food was exceptional and Norma was great :)

Id have to say. The top 5 resturants in barrie. Not cheap. But the chefs skill are coming thru in the fine cooking. A very special place. Romantic environment. Resturant is located in a turn of the century home. Staff were on there game. Helpful and friendly. A plus plus Second visit app were better than mains Mains were off that night i assume.

Way to expensive for the atmosphere and style of restaurant

Reservation but no table reserved. 75 minutes for our 2 meals. They could of offered bread to curb our appetite. Place is too small for the large arm chair. Feel like Im sitting with the ppl beside us. Server told us our dinner took so long because if our pan fried half chicken. Which the skin was black half a chicken is the leg ..breast and thigh. NOT half of a chicken breast. My hubby was starving after we left. My dinner was Steak which was tasteless so i asked for steak sauce so they gave us gravy. So I didnt eat it..it would if been nice to serve it with potatoes but a small amount of carrot. By the time I left I was hungry. My birthday nite there was ruined. Suggestion hire some new chefs Find a bigger place to fit yr customers comfortably as well as parking, this area has a bad reputation for a fine dining establishment. Include more option on yr limited menu. Serve food within 30 mintues. Serve more food or lower yr prices Sorry wont be back and wasted our money on gift certificates we wont be using there. .

Food was good, prices were reasonable. We had to wait a very long time for our meal (just over an hour). We found out that they had a party upstairs and they apologized and comped our wine which was a nice gesture. Main complaint is that the menu on the website is NOT what they have in the restaurant. My partner spent an hour pouring over menus before deciding on this restaurant only to find out both the appetizer and main she wanted were no longer on the menu, very disappointing. Please keep your website current with the in restaurant menu.

Really good food and great atmosphere. Good amount of food, nice presentation for high end restaurant. Appetizers are just out of this world.

Came here with boyfriend expecting exceptional food but was disappointed instead. Lamb had a a funky smell and veggies were weirdly presented on the plate. Maybe my boyfriend and I chose the wrong meals...

Try the oysters wow

Is there a zero star option? Got seated, waited 25 minutes waitress never came back. Walked out and drove and hour to zorros steakhouse. Much better. Found out a couple weeks earlier friend of mine had the same experience

The steak is the best in the city, their selection of wines are absolute, if you want ambiance and great service all with amazing food and prices that suit, this is the place to go , JUST LOVELY !

For a fine dining experience I was disappointed. The pricing reflected what you would expect for fine dining, but food quality didnt meet the expectations. Slow service and one dish was clearly burnt on the bottom. For a special occasion make a trip South to Toronto.

Food was great , service fantastic , but if you are looking for an intimate place to enjoy time with a loved one .. this is not it The next table was only inches away , and to no fault of the restaurant the most obnoxious woman sat there and we couldn t even hear each other for the rest of our meal , really took away from the experience for our anniversary celebration

Well... the napkin was dirty, the beer was foamy, to get clean water please $. The food was good. The waitress needs training, we cleaned the table, and the meal was cooked with an allergy restriction food (when stated that allergic).

Hidden gem found in the heart of Barrie. From the moment you enter the establishment you are imbued with the sense of home comfort mixed with high class dining that can only found at 5 star restaurants in the city. Starting from the professionalism of the server (knowing when to come grab your empty plate to light conversation) right down to the food served on your plate, you will not be disappointed. I recommend (if its your first time) that you start with the chefs special, which is a 7 course meal that shows the range and experience of the young chefs working hard in the back. They hit every part of your palate with dishes ranging from Lobster Ceviche to a gorgeous cut of venison, seafood to traditional recipes with a twist right down to a beautiful display of desserts, everything cooked to perfection and fresh, the hardwork of prepping and choosing fresh ingredients throughout the day shows in the meal and the reactions of other customers in the restaurant (we frequently heard wow throughout the night). My girlfriend and myself are avid home cooks and big foodies and in our opinion, this is the BEST restaurant in Barrie and the Simcoe county area. The price range is amazing and the wine list is varied from imports to local wines. If you are taking someone out on a date or just want to impress your friends then this is the restaurant to go to. 5 star restaurant and Im hoping will become Michelin star quality over the coming years. Thanks for the good time and we will most definitely be coming back very soon.

The North serves some of the best food Ive had. Its a beautiful century home converted to a restaurant, the staff is great - helpful and attentive, its a great upscale restaurant. The food omg the food. Its like art, the serving sizes are generous and tastes AMAZING. Not a single negative thing to say. Try the tasting menu - you wont be disappointed! And pairing with the wine is worth it!

The food was very good and the waitress was pleasant however, the wait time for our food was ridiculously long, and then when we got our food, the portions were extremely small for the price we paid. Like I said, I enjoyed the food but I dont think I will go there again.

Food is incredible. Priced a bit high compared to similar downtown restaurants.
