I am not sure why they are closed right now, but I am really missing the outstanding food. I have tried Thai all over Barrie and this is by far the best!

Our family has frequented this restaurant for years. The food is always fresh. Everyone has their favourites. However, it is the coconut rice that everyone needs to complete their choice.

Terrible food. Not authentic at all. I dont understand how this place is rated so high. Very salty and ton of MSG. They even charge you $1 for a cup of hot water and $2.75 for rice, which didnt come with main dishes.

Ordered cashew chicken and red curry. The cashew chicken is too sweet and the red curry is not Thai spicy. Which we can understand given most Thai food in Canada has to be Canadianised. When server asked, we said it s too sweet and suddenly the server kept arguing Bangkok food is sweet, like, pad Thai. But we didn t order pad Thai and I had to explain my dad used to work in Bangkok (my dad also speaks Thai) and I used to go Bangkok all the time! He just insists Bangkok food is sweet! In the end, I can safely say, this food is not authentic at all and it s way too pricey. On top of that, somehow I had to be gaslighted on Thai food and be told about another dish I did not order. If they are not interested to know what I think of the food, why did they ask? I ve had more authentic Thai food elsewhere in Ontario and this restaurant is not it. Save (a lot) of your money and try Thai food elsewhere if you re looking for that Thai taste you miss when you were down in Chao Praya river because this is not it.

Phoned to make reservations for dinner for 15 people. The man that answered said if everyone was paying their own bill he wasn t going to book us in. When I asked him why, he said cause it would be too confusing. I was like WTH!!! Who turns down business cause they don t want people paying separately.

Ive been coming here for decades, and every time I come here I wonder the same thing... How is this place not packed with people!? This is easily my favourite hidden gem in Barrie. As I write this, by belly is stuffed with one of the best pad Thai dishes Ive ever had, combined with an emerald curry that was absolutely delicious. We ate way too much. And it wasnt busy! Friday night, and we were seated immediately and the food came quick. The owners are super nice, too. Highly recommend!

Had a great dinner here. Just passing by Barrie and decided last minute to pop into this restaurant. Very friendly hosts, place was spacious and clean. And the food was delicious. We ordered pineapple shrimp Curry, pad Thai and tamarind fish. All flavours were authentic and spice level was on point.

This was a great restaurant! I was my husbands first time having Thai food and he was very impressed. We will be return customers.

I came here with friends on my birthday for the first time and enjoyed my time here! The food was so filling and so fresh; we all ordered different plates & we all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. The restaurant is clean and quiet & SO cute. The service was also fantastic. It s sad to see them building a big building out front as I can only imagine how nice the view of the lake would be on the patio during warm weather! Will be back 100%

The place is small but not cozy. There is no parking line at the parking lot, only sign showing reserve parking area for restaurant customers. We parked our car within the area but the host showed up grumpy and pointed us to park our car again to the edge of that parking area. We were happy to follow his instructions but when we entered the restaurant, he gave us an attitude and hesitant seating us while asked if the car was parked properly, then lectured us. There was no lunch menu on the weekend as mentioned on their website and overall we experienced that worst service ever!!!

We had cashew chicken and tofu basil with rice for lunch. Food tasted ok, but nothing special. Price is a bit high for the quality, but you are probably paying for the location and the décor also. Overall its a pass but I probably wont return.

We had an excellent dinner tonight celebrating my husband s birthday. Service was wonderful and the food was fresh and exquisite. Numerous gluten-free options. This was our first visit with friends, and we definitely will be back soon.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were very happy with the service and atmosphere and the food was delicious! We recommend it and will return again.

Customer service and ambiance is wonderful but the food is not good. The portions are small, shrimp pad Thai had 2 shrimp on it. Their curry had hardly any flavour and was extremely watery and the hot and sour soup tasted like watery sweet & sour sauce. The prices were also pretty steep considering the portion sizes. I wouldn t return.

Nice little Thai restaurant. Food came out quickly and tasted great. Spicy menu items had a good kick without being overpowering. Portion sizes were just right. It wasnt too crowded when we were there and everyone was parked on one side but it could be tight to get in and out of if cars are parked in the spots on both sides.

The food there was amazing and flavourful. We ordered the eggplant delight and veggie curry with rice and spicy veggie soup. All 3 were amazing. Eggplant delight was so much better than what we expected. Vegetarian options: Not too many veggie options but the veggie dishes we ordered were so good! Authentic Thai food I Berrie

Have ordered off the lunch and regular menus. Both were very good meals. The lunch portion was tasty and the perfect size (I had Basil Beef, yumm!). Lemongrass tea was good. Everything arrived properly hot or cold. Service was stellar. The atmosphere was lively with people conversing at their tables. Not too loud for us at least. Most dishes can be made gluten and egg free, just ask. Hot heads can ramp up the heat as much as they like with a side of Thai chili paste. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options available for most dishes. Egg free on request as well.

Great service, amazing food taste and quality and the atmosphere is inviting. Its a nice little spot run by a family. Food came out relatively quick, and tasted amazing. The owners came out and made sure everything was tasting great. Will definitely recommend. Parking: There are about 10 to 12 parking spots on the side of the building. These are free parking spots for the customers of the restaurant.

Weve been going here for years and never disappointed. The food is excellent and just the right amount in my opinion unless you have a large appetite then this lovely delicate food is not meant for you. The view was spectacular but with the new Condo being built that wiil be gone although the food and the people who work there are far nicer than any view. I especially like the ghosts! The place has been haunted for years and if you pay attention you will see or hear one. Theyre not unfriendly they just want to hang out. If you look at the top floor window you may catch a glimpse of a shadow walking by when no one is there. That in my opinion is worth the the visit on its own! Support our local restaurants and their owners and spirits!

This place is very authentic, the person who works here is very nice, the food came very fast with a very delicious appetizer. The food tasted very good. But I found 1 hair in my food by the lady was very apologetic and came out with some new food.

I gave it 2 stars because the service was nice and food arrived promptly (mind you we were the only customers at that time). The dishes we tried were all too salty and not remarkable in terms of seasoning. The soup almost made me cry. Very plain broth with a few pieces of veggies. The menu was overpriced for the quality and quantity. Weve been to many Thai restaurants throughout the GTA, and this one did not measure up. Too bad.

The best restaurant in Barrie. My favourite restaurant! Ive been coming here for at least 15 years. Amazing dine-in atmosphere and the friendliest staff. Whoever is cooking this stuff up is amazing. I have not had a bad dish but my personal recommendations are the Golden Chicken Curry (no chicken since the potato is to die for - trust me), Thai Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, and last but not least the incomparable Tofu Cashew Nuts.

We went there in an afternoon when there were no one. The owner or manager herself was the only one in the dining area. It was very hard to get any service and she charged us for water. The food was also not good. We will not go back again.

Glass chicken noodles, sweet basil beef and chicken with mixed vegetables are delicious. But you absolutely need to try lemon prawn soup! It is appetizer size though. Will definitely come back. The fact that they have own parking is definitely a plus!

We saw good review for this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. The service was good and friendly. The spring roll was ok, pad Thai a bit salty. We expected the creamy Tom Yum Goong but it came clear. We do not recommend the papaya salad. Overall an ok experience.

So authentic! Calamari to die for. Honestly the best Thai Ive had in Canada. Keep doing what you guys do & open up in B.C.

Hidden gem. Fantastic pad Thai

Called Chaopaya yesterday to give them a heads up that 6 of us wanted to come in to dine. We wanted to come in for 6:45 pm. The person on the phone informed us their kitchen closed at 7:30. We asked so you would rather us not come? we can be ready to order right away. They said its too late. We were quite surprised by that especially considering some of us have previously been in the industry and so we know this isnt acceptable. To add to the confusion, their google business hours show they close at 8 pm. Im giving a 1 star due to the poor customer service/communication. It makes me want to support other restaurants who would be happy to welcome us up until the hours they reflect online.

My partner and I recently came here and had an absolutely fantastic experience. The pad thai and green curry dishes were both so flavorful and perfectly cooked - we couldnt get enough! The service was also top-notch - our server was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. Well definitely be back to try more of their menu. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some great Thai food. PS their aquarium at the entrance is SO COOL!

Do not go to this place!! Absolute rip off. You pay more than $12 for lunch and only get a tiny tiny portion (not even half portion of the pad Thai or soup). Definitely not great value at all. I ve been to lots of Thai places and they usually fill the take out container with food. I mean, the majority of it was noodles anyways and how much can that be. When I brought up this issue with the proprietor, he just argued and didn t even try to rectify the problem. I understand food costs have gone up but you can t rip customers off and still expect to maintain business. Horrible horrible service and total scam!! On top of that, the food tastes absolutely disgusting and not authentic at all (I ve been a regular vacationer to Thailand for the past 8 years). Stay away!!!

Chaopaya is my favourite go-to Thai restaurant in Barrie. Just thinking about it makes me happy! Our favs are Emerald Chicken curry (order some steamed rice on the side); pad Thai, mango salad and chicken satay! Delish! My husband is a big fan of the fresh spring rolls as well..

Thought I would pick this up on the way home. Huge mistake paid 50.00 for diarrhea my wife and I have been sitting on the toilet with lava since we ate the overpriced sub-par food. Im trying to give local restaurants business but this is the reason we have ultimately stopped eating take out. Quality is terrible and its a risk what gastrointestinal irritation you will develop.

Finally found our Thai restaurant of choice in Barrie. Great service and wonderful food. The dishes are delicately created with a real mastery of flavours. The curries are subtle, creamy and very balanced. The pad Thai is deceptive in its presentation but packs a punch of the right flavour you expect from an authentic dish. If you are more discerning with your food choices and value flavour over volume, you will not be disappointed. Very fresh food and expertly prepared.

YUM! I got the Emerald Curry Chicken, Mango Sticky rice, & the spring rolls. Everything tasted incredible. So happy I tried this place! On the pricier side, but highly recommend!

Super authentic Thai food. The appetizer platter had a bit of everything, and the data skewer was a tender and post chicken breast that was well marinated. The sweet chili sauce is made in house and was so good, I had to buy a container to take home. We gobbled up the Bamboo squid, before we remembered to take a picture. The squid was tender and intricately waffle cut, with just a hint of umami fishiness. It paired so well with the coconut rice. To finish it off, the mango sticky rice was so good, with the glutinous rice cooked to a soft stickiness. All dishes were served on Thai tableware, adding onto the authentic experience. It was such a treat to find a great Thai restaurant during covid. Extra bonus: We got to sit in the teak pavilion, and Dave took a great picture of us.

Came here after spending time at the beach and wanting to give back to local businesses. I was truly disappointed by the food and found black stains on my chicken pieces. The green curry was watered down and the pad thai had peanuts and chicken pieces with noddles that are not meant for pad thai. There were no vegetables. Previously, I have ordered or eaten at many thai restaurants and this would be the worst one yet. It is a pricy place for below average food. I would never go to this place again.

My boyfriend and I went to Chaopaya tonight for dinner, we loved it! We had the appetizer platter for 2, and shared the red curry duck, and the seafood noodles as our mains, everything was awesome! Especially the red curry duck! And you have to try the spring rolls and the shrimp rolls. Service was really good, and very friendly. He stopped and had personal chat with us. Would definitely recommend!

Terrible service or lack there of

Loved the food! Service was great, too. And we learnt to use spoon instead of chopsticks since that is how the Thai eat. I highly recommend this place.

Food is authentic and delicious. Went for the lunch specials. Pad Thai was very good, tasty and the cashew chicken is my favorite. Great prices. And staff were very welcoming. Very quaint place with a few rooms with tables, very cosy. Will definitely go back again.
