73-75 Wycombe End, Beaconsfield HP9 1LX, United Kingdom
Opulent, dramatic rooms in a wood-beamed 15th-century inn, with trendy dining and outdoor pool.
Went for dinner in the English restaurant. The food was very tasty however part of our meal was forgotten and didn’t come out until we had all finished. The service was very average, not a single person asked if our meal was okay. We had to call staff over to order more drinks. Extortionate service charge then added to our meal. No knew cutlery was given and no steak knife’s. The decor in the restaurant is lovely and over all has a great vibe. Unfortunately wasn’t worth the price so wouldn’t go back.
Highly recommend, perfect for time with your loved one , bed huge, linen perfect, great lotions and facilities. The rooms were beautifully decorated and extremely clean and fresh. We definitely will be coming back |all the Staff were so polite helpful and respectful . The food was so fresh and definitely locally sourced and cooked. The staff did apologise for our dessert being late , but honestly we were enjoying our time in the relaxing atmosphere we hadn't even noticed.|The morning brunch was outside, we had the buffet, which had everything you could think of , I went for a slice of melon & pineapple , mango smoothie with a cinnamon swirl|My main breakfast was salmon & scrambled egg , the best I ever tasted .|The only bad thing .. was we had to come home .||We stayed in a deluxe room just down the road from the main building, and for the most part were very pleased with our room, except for just a few things: being right next to the pavement outside, for privacy we had to shut the blinds, but the lighting was so dim I could hardly see to put on my make-up and there's no provision for turning it up brighter; we ironed a shirt and the ironing board had no padding at all, so just like ironing on metal with a cloth over - thankfully the iron had a light on it so we could see what we were ironing, and lastly for the price you pay for the room it's a bit poor that there are no tea and coffee making facilities included - just a bottle of still water, which doesn't hit the spot when you want to chill in the room with a cuppa.|Having said that, the Crazy Bear was a great experience.
The crazy bear has potential to be a very unique and glamorous hotel, unfortunately this wasn’t the case for our stay The driving point for us staying at this hotel was the bath in the room. Our first room whilst the aesthetic was lovely, the bath couldn’t hold water and would drain on its own The lady at reception was very helpful and apologetic and changed our room. Unfortunately this room was extremely dated and almost looked like an old B&B. The wallpaper was peeling, the light flickered on and off and the bathroom was very tired. The bath in this room rather than held water we now couldn’t let the water out which resulted in a member of staff forcing it open with a hammer. The issue persisted following this until which point we decided to not use the bath all together making the stay relatively pointless. Whilst some rooms are as described there are many which required a lot of attention considering it’s a 5 star hotel especially if charging near £300 a night for a room
We were very disappointed with our third Sunday lunch with you. We brought some friends for the first time and have the following comments.... We booked a table for 2pm and arrived early for a drink only to then wait over 45 minutes for our table to be ready at 2.45pm. Our starters were fine but the main courses was supplied luke warm on cold plates with very small portions. None of the dishes we considered to be value for money. The Sunday lunch was less that 1 roast potato cut into 3 small bits, only a fork full each. The meat was 3 slices cut far to thin. Two bits of carrot about 1 inch long. We asked for extra potato's and were then charged at £1 for again 1 potato cut into four pieces. The fish & chips was sent back due to being a very salty batter. We asked for sauces which arrived after we had finished eating 10 minutes later. The staff were very friendly although very young and possibly could do with some more training ? On our previous visits we left thinking your venue represented good value for the charges, however not on this occasion !
Went to the British restaurant for dinner with a group of 9. In a word it was shambolic. Even before we got to the venue they had confused us all by sending out set menus that we needed to order 3 courses from - both a November one and a festive one. Then on the day of the booking they told the organiser we all had to order off the same menu. The options were very limited with one meat option, one fish option and a veggie option for starter and main. When we got there we were presented with a la carte menus. When I questioned that we had already provided our orders they dismissed it and said we could order 3 courses from this menu. There were still very limited options with maybe 2 fish, 2 meat and one veggie option. Once we ordered our food we weren't given any drinks menus, they provided water but took the bottles away. I didn't realise H2O was rationed! We ordered wine that never showed up. One person in our group ordered the veggie main, which ended up being 2 tiny pieces of butternut squash on some butternut baby food puree. See photo. She did complain and then they offered to make her pasta that was identical to her starter. Our desserts came out three hours after our table booking time, the service simply dragged unnecessarily given the tiny menu. They cocked the bill up at the end too just for measure. And the couple behind us had a grovelling apology by one of the staff members for their own experience. You can tell a lot by a place by how you're greeted and you simply aren't here. I don't think they have enough staff and the ones they do have range from vaguely competent to completely disinterested. What a shame. This place used to be good. I won't risk a return.
We had a good time at the Crazy Bear Beaconsfield. The room was lovely, the decor is amazing. We loved it! Unfortunately we were disappointed with a few things. The air conditioning didn't work in our room (room 21). The bathroom floor was slippery and very dangerous, especially after using the shower. We found our room absolutely reeking of cannabis when we returned after our evening out - we did have the window open as air con didn't work. The pool and jacuzzi was approx 5/6 degrees, so we didn't end up getting in. We weren't the only ones who found it unusable. Also we were surprised the toast isn't included with the breakfast considering the cost. The meal was overpriced especially as it was very minimal. Most of us left and bought food elsewhere. The drinks were double the prices of other local restaurants/pubs. I don't think we will return. But was definitely an experience.
I had afternoon tea with champagne. The service was pretty poor: the food was just plonked down on the table with no explanation of what was in the sandwich fillings (I have a shellfish allergy, and had explained that, so it would have been reassuring). We had to ask for our tea and champagne as it was never bought to the table. The scones were inedible as so dry. Location and decor nice but obviously that's not going to makeup for dry scones and poor service.
We’ve had 2 poor experiences 1 in each hotel. The first in Beaconsfield. The bar and restaurant shockingly understocked to the point we looked else where in the area to eat. The room was lovely until what seemed to be a zoo moved in to the room upstairs (lights in our room swayed whilst the room shook). The staff at breakfast completely unhelpful and we could over hear another couple’s complaint of not having any water to shower in their room. (They were told to shower in their friends room). I expressed our disappointment and was offered a stay at their sister hotel which we chose to do for my 40th birthday. The place is amazing to view but that’s it. Checked in to find out kitchen is closed, which meant we had to go out to the local area to eat. The bar understocked and to our amazement the restaurant had no fillet steak. AGAIN desperately understocked. The manager was nice and listened but by then to little to late. 2 bad experiences with them. Would not recommend.
We had high tea with work there, I have had better ones.
A lovely evening, food outstanding, service excellent and wonderful ambiance. Six of us enjoyed the 3 course festive menu. Would definitely recommend.
We went for a meal in the English restaurant, when we sat down the first thing we was asked was did we know everything that wasnt available on the menu, which was a lot of dishes unavailable. We was asked how we wanted our steaks cooked, I dont know why they bothered because the chef obviously doesnt know how to cook steak as it all came overcooked. In hindsight we should have sent it back. The lager in the bar was warm cans and some new lager they were promoting to sell. I asked the barman if I could pay cash, he said technically no, but he would be happy to pay on his card and I could give him the cash but he wouldnt be able to give me any change!!!! I dont expect a response from this place because if you look at all the other responses they are all the same. Just be advised avoid this place, its very expensive and absolute crap, save your money and go somewhere else!!!!
Edit: 18/12/24 still no response! emailed Manager on 11/11/24 as requested, no response so far. Stayed here recently as wanted to tick it off the bucket list and I was pretty shocked at the state of the room and furniture. I booked the decadent room which I had climb two stories for. The stairs narrow with no bannister on the right side so u can easily just fall and the hallway literally smelt like damp. Once I got in the room I was quite shocked at the state of the bathtub which looked like a raccoon probably had scratched away at the coating, similarly the sink basin was scratched up completely. I have seen fortunate is second hand shops in better state than some of the furniture in the room. For the price of one night here I was atleast expecting a bath without feeling like I was being scrubbed raw with every move. They charged a £150 pre authorisation fee for damage etc but I m not sure how much more damage i could possibly do to that room. There are little to no amenities included in the room, no tea or coffee, just water, some soap and a shower cap. The ceilings were so low I quite literally hit my head a few times and I am 5ft 3inches so I can t imagine anyone taller than me having less trouble. It was pretty hard to even find parking for the place which is (unclearly) behind the building, the spaces are small and narrow and I had so much trouble getting into the space, two lovely guests actually had to help direct me out of the space the following day because it was so narrow and impossible to get out without hitting the car behind and to the side of me! I don t think that is just due to my car parking skill as the other guests had mentioned they found it equally difficult to get into the spaces. I, overall, would not be back here, for the price you pay you can certainly stay at a nice spa instead. I don t write bad reviews often but unfortunately this place has really disappointed me.
We had the festive menu in the English restaurant on a Friday night in December. Probably the worst festive 3 course experience I ve had compared to Browns, Royal Standard of England, Beach House, Blackwood Arms etc. Not recommended to come in the evening. Top line - The food is nice but this is not the place to come if you are hungry because the servings are small. I suppose it s great if you re in a diet. I suspect that part of why I thought it was very nice food was because I was so hungry. - Some of the other guests made the atmosphere challenging. - The service is mixed. The first course was trout and I couldn t see anything in the plate at first. Probably because it was so dark. The taste was nice but the helping could have fit on one loaded fork. Second course was ox cheek which we all had. The meat serving size varied greatly in across the table, which would have been fine except there was nothing else to eat except the very nice but barely-there serving of puree beneath the piece of meat. No veg. The sticky toffee pudding was served with the a scoop of ice cream smaller than a golf ball. 1/3rd size of normal dessert but nice to eat. The staff ranged between indifferent, sleepy to slightly hard faced. We waited an age for service towards the end. Waiting to pay and leave was frustrating (30 mins + from plate clearing). I had witnessed staff needing to deal with difficult groups who were just there for insta pics, but when our waiter finally showed up he suggested that we should head to the bar if we wanted to stay because they needed the table. I was too shocked to say anything other than we were very happy to leave if we could only pay the bill. No offer of coffee. I don t think we were smiled at once. They were all very young. Just a grim experience.
I visited Crazy Bear for the first time and overall, it was quite fancy and expensive, plus it was really cold.
Shocking, we stayed in a Snug room, as this was already £298 for the stay and the cheapest way to try the place out ( you still expect something good for the price) went into reception to check in quickly made to pay £150 holding fee and then got escorted across the main road to the flats type building on the other side of the room, no amenities over there, this already makes it extremely difficult to use the pool etc as you would have to get completely ready there before and after to walk across the busy main road getting back, so we were shown to our room as quickly as possible you almost got the Impression if you book there cheap rooms they like to keep you away from there main clientell and the nice rooms which are at the actual hotel... we entered our room and was quite literally taken back by the sheer size, although we booked a Snug we did not expect to have a attic style roof coming into half the ceiling area, broken lights, dirty rose petals blowing out from under the bed and lots under the mattress, dust, hair, a mascara under the table and a dirty sock. We continued to look around in disgust moved the chair which literally left a pattern on the floor of dust and dirt, we then went over to reception but there were no other rooms available so we needed to lump it, the TV also did not work, the idea was to take my wife here for her 30th but we ended up being out of the room as much a possible because of the chlostrophopia and dirt, Im still not finished here, there was a broken floor time in the shower cupboard which tries to take skin of your toes, the shower gels were completely empty, so washed with conditioner only, Needless to say I would never return nor recommend this place, if this place was on four in a bed I would pay 40 to 50 pound for this night and think myself generous. To add, as you see below they ask you to contact them which I did on the same day, to have no reply even since chasing - real good customer service there
I was treated like a second-class citizen and made to feel embarrassed when attempting to book with a voucher. The experience left me feeling unwelcome and reluctant to try again.
Food is terrible since it s been taken over. Really poor.
0 Stars! Honestly one of the worst customer service experiences. Me and my friend have been trying to call any department if this hotel for the last week at various days and times with no success. The reason for my call was go ask if i could buy a voucher and use it on the 26th. I had even emailed the manager a week ago with no response. So we ended up purchasing the vouchers (Which did not mention we couldn t use the voucher then). When someone miraculously answered today we were told we wouldn t be able to use a voucher on the 26th after all of that. Would not recommend just a headache. Spend your money elsewhere.
Hotel Review: Crazy Bear Beaconsfield I recently visited Crazy Bear Beaconsfield as part of a party of four, and unfortunately, our experience at the restaurant during breakfast left a lot to be desired. We arrived at 9:00 am when the restaurant was relatively quiet, with only a few other guests seated in the same area. After placing our orders for beverages and food, we noticed a nearby couple mentioning they were in a hurry and needed quick service. They were served promptly and left, which we didn t mind at all. However, our own experience was far from satisfactory. The first issue arose when an hour passed with no sign of our drinks or food. Upon raising our concerns with a staff member, we were met with confusion as she requested we re-order our drinks. She apologised, explaining she had just started her shift, but this suggested that our original order had never been placed. At the 1 hour 15-minute mark, our mains finally arrived, but five side dishes were missing. We waited further for these to be served, but by 1 hour 30 minutes, they still hadn t arrived. At this point, the mains had gone cold, so they were taken back to be reheated or remade. Other tables around us were also visibly frustrated, with complaints about similar delays. After waiting 1 hour 40 minutes, our original drinks were served, but one was incorrect. Given the circumstances, I initially chose not to mention it, as the situation had already become upsetting. However, shortly after, the barista approached us to apologise, and when I politely pointed out the error, they rectified it promptly. At 1 hour 50 minutes, the mains and most of the sides finally arrived, except for one side dish that never appeared. By this point, I couldn t be bothered to bring it up. Unfortunately, by the time we finished our meal and returned to the room, it was already time to check out. While reception did extend our check-out time by an hour, the experience had already soured our visit. This was my fourth stay at Crazy Bear Beaconsfield, and I ve never had issues like this before. While I understand there may have been staffing shortages that day, it would have been helpful if we were informed upon arrival. This would have allowed us to decide whether to dine there or seek breakfast elsewhere. The lack of coordination and basic service skills among the restaurant staff was glaring. Most staff members, apart from the barista, made us feel as though our complaints were unwarranted. In fact, the table next to us left without paying due to missing items, and other tables voiced similar grievances. While the hotel waived the cost of our meal as a gesture of goodwill, we hadn t come seeking a free breakfast we simply wanted a pleasant meal with efficient service. Overall, I believe the restaurant staff require additional training in customer service and table management. This experience was disappointing, especially given the typically high standards I ve come to expect from Crazy Bear Beaconsfield. I hope improvements are made to prevent similar issues in the future.
The Crazy Bear. What a fascinating and unique establishment in The Old Town of Beaconsfield. Definitely worth a visit. Chris.
My partner and I have been trying to get in touch with Crazy Bear Beaconsfield for the past two weeks to enquire about vouchers which we wanted to purchase for our anniversary, which is the 26th of December. After countless unanswered calls and emails, we decided to purchase the vouchers as there was no where written that they couldn t be used on this date. Just our luck, we received an answer two days after purchasing the vouchers, where we were told they cannot be used. We are extremely disappointed with the customer service of the staff in this establishment. Would definitely recommend to save your money and look elsewhere.
We had a room for the night and a meal booked in the English restaurant. The room seemed great on first entrance as the decor was great and it felt cosy but there was no option to change the lighting to make it brighter so it was too dark for getting dressed etc. The one window to the side of our room faced a bush so not much light coming in at all. Could frequently hear people coming and going through the front door too and the top of the cupboard fell through in the night so not the best sleep Ive had! The restaurant service is what really let the experience down, it took 20 minutes for them to notice us and even offer a drink. My partners squid starter was the blandest wed ever tasted and they had ran out of chicken for the main option. Vegetarian options were minimal and the one vegan option was the salad which I thought took the biscuit slightly!! A broader menu and more attentive staff required all in all!
Literally the worst hotel I ve ever stayed in - couldn t see anything in the room and could barely move in it.
Food quality and service have dropped compared to last experiences, doesnt excel anymore but still good enough.
We had a meal, the service was terrible - we had to chase for the main meals as there was no sign of anybody being served. At the end we find find someone to ask for the bill who never came back. We had to grab a member of staff on the way out to pay. The food was ok not great when it evetually turned up.
A luxurious corner.
I have booked a voucher as a present still not received over 2 weeks later. I have called over 6 times left voice messages and emailed, still no reply. Absolutely appalling so disappointed as when I have been 4 times previously really great service? What has changed that a phone call or email cannot be replied too?
Very nice and food was decent. However the increase of service charge is a joke and paying via qr code and 20% is automatically added which is cheeky at best.
This place could be amazing, but a number of things really let it down. 1) They dont answer the phone, no matter how many times we tried. Somebody else staying said they got a call back 24 hours later if you leave a message...but we didnt which is really poor. 2) The service is poor and not up to scratch 3) The food is average I will say the young lady at reception was lovely, the decor is really lovely, but the service doesnt match the price, which is easy to fix.
Overall good experience
The hotel was very nice, and the rooms were certainly unique, with each one being slightly different. The signature point seems to be the big bathtub being filled from the ceiling. This was in the room style we were staying in, called decadent. I wouldn t say I liked that when we checked in, we were asked to follow the receptionist and walked back out of the hotel up the street across the zebra crossing and a small car park into another building. At this point, we were told that the hotel has Numerous rooms across 11 buildings, but only six are in the main hotel building. This means if you want to eat, drink or go to the pool, you have to cross the road in whatever weather that presents, and if you re going to the pool, imagine doing this in your swimming costume with the A40 road running between you and the hotel building very bizarre set up the only other way would be to use the downstairs toilets to change which doesn t sound very glamorous to me. Also, a surprising point was the pool was not heated and opened to the elements, which wouldn t have been a massive issue. Had the hot tub been hot? On the day we viewed the pool, it was cold, and the hot tub was even colder than the main pool, which was bizarre. Also, the pool is only open during daylight hours. On a positive note, we had dinner on our first night in the English restaurant, and despite a limited menu of choices, I can t complain as I found something, and the food was delicious. I had the châteaubriand, and it was purely melting. My mouth was cooked to perfection, and my partner also tried the fillet, which was also just as good. Other things to know was that there was quite a lot of road noise that you could hear in your room, especially as you woke up in the mornings. Although it s not the Hotels fault, we had guests above us on our second night, which we clearly didn t have on our first night. You could hear every movement of them walking around the room or doing anything else. They also seem to have a domestic, and let s say the walls floors, you could hear pretty much every word at the elevated shouting voices. Food and drinks: Two restaurants English and a Thai we are in the English and was absolutely lovely but didn t have anything in the tie. There s also a hotel bar with a variety of cocktails all of which are nice ranging from £12-£17 I believe
Safety: Yes Rooms
Took 45 minutes to get drinks on a quiet Sunday night. Staff were surly and disinterested. Avoid.
Fantastic ambience & amazing service. Definitely will be back. Special shout out to Mark, the manager, who made us feel very welcoming.
Very enjoyable stay at crazy bear hotel only let down by a few minor things. Our room was stunning and exactly the vibe we were looking for and all staff we encountered were friendly and helpful throughout the duration of our stay. Unfortunately we took our swimwear to go in the jacuzzi which was running but stone cold so unusable and the entire outer space was devoid of any heaters which was a shame as it would have been nice to have a drink amongst the beautiful setting but it was too chilly. I also thought for the price you pay for the room, no presence of a kettle and tea and coffee is disappointing. We enjoyed our meal despite being disappointed at the limited three course menu with no option to pay a supplement for a steak or something simular. All in all Id probably stay again to experiance one of the different themed rooms, but I would eat else where and go in the warmer months.
I booked the Thai massage for my partners birthday. AVOID. it was dreadful. Took place in a cold shed that smelt of mould. Therapist (use term sparingly) was rude and wore gloves!!!! can you believe. Truly bad, made worse by hotel management who do not care, despite being given the chance to respond, have not done so. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
This place is a grammers dream but a bit lacking in sensible accommodation and trying too hard to be boujee. We arrived to check-in and were greeted well. The staff throughout were friendly, amicable and a credit to the hotel. Once cards were charged it got a little different. Firstly, we were led out of the main entrance, across the busy road and into the cosy terrace opposite. This wasnt mentioned anywhere. We had a first-floor cosy and were let in. It was very, very dark and the lighting was awful. The brightest light was in the tiny wardrobe!!! The bed was a small double and had probably a foot-and-a-half space and the pillows were in an inset wall. It had a tv at the foot, which didnt work too. There was an opening to the shower room, partially hidden behind a huge curtain. Inside it was a hose with a shower head, sink and wc. There was no room/shelf for any toiletries at all. It was a wetroom so when we showered, the water was around the base of the sink and wc and didnt dry for ages. This is really poor, especially as there is room to have a tray, or shelf to keep the water in. We had a continental breakfast included so went over in the morning. The food was really nice, albeit a little slow arriving and good value. We didnt get to use the pool but it looked nice. The bar area was decent, popular and looked a nice place to drink but we spent most of our time in the outdoor areas. Our room was £200 with the breakfast and that seems to have been a very low price at the time. I dont think its worth that. What we saw of Beaconsfield seemed decent. Rooms: Deceptively small, very dark. Safety: We had a fob to the main door and key to our room. Food and drinks: High-end drinks prices and nice food
Should take a leaf out of James Martin Saturday morning kitchen Walkability: No sign for disabled toilets Food and drinks: Positions too small
Im giving this 4 stars, mainly for the location and decoration.. I was lucky enough to have an afternoon tea here for my birthday treat from a friend. The Crazy Bear is decorated with sheer opulence, very beautiful surroundings. We were sat down and given menus. All seemed good. But service lacked a little something. Its not quite good enough. No tea served , sandwiches and cakes arrived, looked beautiful, but still no tea, no champagne. Had to ask for both And the scones were dry!!!!!! Why do restaurants not serve fresh scones?? They were as dry as can be. Come on.. main part of a cream tea, Not great, quite disappointing. We had 2 coffees after and were charged over £21 for those and a service charge..!!? OUCH! So bit of a shame overall.. Shame. A bit more thought and fresher scones could have made this a 5 star review. Parking available outside, but a bit pot luck how busy it is.. staff were friendly enough, but all quite young, maybe thats why wasnt quite up to par.
Review of The Crazy Bear Hotel - Beaconsfield Reviewed yesterday We were looking forward to Champagne , afternoon tea at The Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield. When we arrived, we were shown to a dingy back area which was cold and dark. We asked if we could sit somewhere else and the waitress said she would set up a place in the dining area.. We sat in the bar for a while and then were shown to a table with a long bench seat and a speaker above my head. Another waitress asked if we wanted Rose champagne or White and we made our selection. A few minutes later she retuned with sandwiches, a scone each and some small cakes and just said Your afternoon tea and walked off. No one came and asked if everything was ok, no one even offered us a further drink and I had to find someone to see if we just left or what the situation was. We were served no tea, or even asked if we wanted any. A young man asked to see our voucher and that was that. There was no one else in the restaurant and when we left , there were three members of staff on the reception at the exit, Not one person said goodbye or did you have a nice time Nothing! We will not be returning again and to think if we had paid full price (we had a voucher) it would have cost.£100.00
Lovely place Lovely people but shockingly overpriced food we had to pay for a part of restaurant to sit in I had not much chicken put In a bowl with 3 green peppers no potatoes or sides no sauce dry as you like Ive had better food at the harvester we had to order some chips after otherwise gone home hungry
A weekend away for our anniversary. My wife had been wanting to stay at a crazy bear hotel so we stayed one night. Welcome arrival early afternoon. We arrived before check in time and staff were accommodating and it was nice to have a great cocktail in the bar around the pool. Outside undercover but well heated. Rooms: The rooms (cosy size room) are quite funky and unique style with some flamboyance. No in room kettle but water and a snack. Really good sized shower room. Good sized smart tv. Good seating for two. Walkability: A good number of restaurants and cafes are within walking distance. A verity of shops slightly further afield, walking distance, are about.
To whom it may concern We booked 3-night stay with yourself at the Beaconsfield confirmation number-4620039040 through booking.com unfortunately the service and room were not up to standard very disappointed room was very dirty and dusty spider webs everywhere curtains to access the shower was ripped shower leaking tap to sink was loose grouting completely missing around the sink even the back of the tv remote was missing mould on the window next to the bed hook missing for curtains lights on the bed loose dirt inside bedframe also we was unable to get through to reception to book anything it was like it was a free for all doors left open staff smoking coughing and spitting outside of the doors to the apartments me and my wife had our anniversary ruined Im to two minds to send this to the papers as Im very angry we want a refund and compensation See photos attached Also I have a video in regards to this which Im happy to send over but wont allow me to send via email Edited 11/11/2024 - email sent to hotel main email address on 28/10 - only receive a general we have received your response & forwarded to Manager email on 04/11 - now forwarded to email address provided above as STILL awaiting a response!
Situated in the lovely town of Beaconsfield. Visited for afternoon tea. Although the table was clean, the carpet needed sweeping, lots of crumbs on the floor. Sandwiches were well filled and tasty. The Scones were dry and bland, the cream was about to go off,it had a strange taste.Good selection of teas. Champagne was ok. Only a couple of girls working, difficult to get served. No offer of a refill for our tea, no sugar or sweetner offered. No one asked if everything was okay, or asked if we wanted more drinks.Toilets are hard to locate and, again, no one to ask. Parking is a nightmare. We had a considerable walk from the lane that we found a space in. Sadly, not a good experience.
Barring the receptionists the service at Beaconsfield during my stay was awful, I jabe since tried to call mark who I was told would deal with my complaint for the last 4 weeks and each time my calls and e nails have been ignored, this is a place where you once used to be treated like royalty and nothing was impossible but has since become a disgrace
I was deeply disappointed with the cleanliness and overall condition of the room during my stay. There was chewing gum found on light switches and in the bed, as well as bottle caps and plastic seals left scattered around the room. The blinds were very dusty, and the lights did not function properly. Additionally, I witnessed a staff member opening a coffee package with their mouth, which I found highly unhygienic. As instructed by the hotel staff upon check-out, I submitted a formal complaint to Mark G. However, despite multiple attempts to reach out via phone and email, I have yet to receive any response. Booking.com has also made numerous attempts to contact the hotel on my behalf, but they have been unsuccessful as well. Given the lack of professionalism and the poor condition of the facilities, I strongly advise caution before booking here. Unfortunately, my experience was far from the standard portrayed in promotional materials, and I am left feeling very disappointed by the overall service. Rooms: Very dirty
The wife and I came here on a Sunday night and after having a few drinks in the local pubs we checked in with no issues at all. We dropped bags off and had some cocktails and I must say they were some of the best weve ever had putting the price for each one aside. The bannoffee cocktail was just sensational, you could taste every flavour of a bannoffee pie . The surroundings are perfect for having a few drinks with your loved one and you feel like youre on holiday in Morocco with the decorations. Although we never made it to the Thai restaurant we had booked up the room was like nothing weve experienced before, perfect for a nights getaway. The only downfall was the service at breakfast in the morning, which wasnt great but the manager took the food off our bill. Well definitely be going back as we loved the room, cocktails and how the place was decorated, and hopefully make it to the Thai restaurant.
We can t say it s not a unique museum, but not a hotel. The rooms are very luxury and unique but bad smile & the service like heating food is not good at all. Last night was a cold night and there was no one room with good heating as the (hotel) not prepared for that. I spent all the evening until next day morning in the bed under the duvet as was not possible to stay out if it , spent much money for staying in a bed for 11 hours.
What a massive disappointment... the rooms are nicely decorated... zero soundproof... you can hear everything next door... in the hallway and the guests upstairs... the service is zero star... staff all congregated in corners chit chatting about what they have been up to... took a waiter half an hour to peel himself away from the gossip to attend to the guests... the food is not very nice at all.... my cocktail was served in a tumbler.... the decor by the pool is very tired and held by duck tape... this place has been extremely overrated and not worth the drive from London or the price tag .. Crazy bear owners need to really have a close look as to why their place is not doing so well... Friday nights there are rowdy... not what I had expected at all... my advice is there are far better places to go and visit.. lastly the management have no idea on how to manage.
The rooms are too dark and with maintenance issues; no door in the bathroom but just a heavy draped curtain which I find very unhygienic. No kettle facilities in the rooms; in the morning my partner had to get dressed and go to the local cafe to get 2 takeaway coffees before check out. Very young and inexperienced staff. We booked dinner at the restaurant, my meal was abysmal, overcooked quinoa, terrible plum sauce, bland chicken, very overpriced and small portions. We ll never return.
Visited today for afternoon tea and left feeling rather dissapointed. We were sat for an hour waiting for the food to arrive only to have to go and find a waitress ourselves to take the order. Eventually the food arrived but the tea didn t arrive which again we had to go and ask for. This wasn t served until we were on our final plate of cakes. Tea eventually arrived and the reason it was late being they didn t have enough teapots . Very poor indeed. No cups for the tea which again we had to go and ask for. Very overrated and definately not worth the additional service charge when we practically served ourselves. I can definitely think of better places to go for afternoon tea and won t be returning! Not worth the money at all. Rather dark and tacky decor.
Only had a quick visit, didnt stay for drink as it was quiet that night, just wanted to check it out. Beautiful stylish bar
I have to confess that reading the mass of bad reviews about this venue had led to a little apprehension when our daughter booked this place as an anniversary gift. But in the end all was fine. Not that the place is perfect but it rather depends on who you are and almost certainly how old you are or feel. We had a Cosy Room which was not in the main hotel but across a dual carriageway. This was undertaken in pouring rain so not a perfect start. Yes the Cosy Room is small and weirdly the bathroom doesnt have a door but a heavy curtain. However this was fine, the shower good and the towels big and fluffy. The room has no tea or coffee facility so if you wanted one you have to pay and they would deliver to your room. Did I mention the dual carriageway and rain between us and it? Food wise we ate in the English restaurant and the food was good but its very expensive. They also have a very strange system in their bar which means you have to pay every time you order a drink, you cant charge to your room. Why? In the end Crazy Bear is aimed at the under 30s and wants to attract, according to our waitress, the influencers, whatever they are but Im pretty sure its not a man in his 70s. To be fair we were treated very well, perhaps we were a novelty and they were just curious. As an aside Beaconsfield is quite splendid with a lot of choice food wise. Have fun.
Apart from the bath with the water coming down the ceiling and the large size of the room there isn t much more going on it s not bad but definitely over hyped. English restaurant wasn t the greatest
I had drinks credited onto my account for the wedding couple. Which they didnt even realise! Yet I was charged
Stunning place, lovely food but could do with a little more on the menu. Staff friendly and very helpful. Service was great and turn around of food very good.
The rooms are definitely unique and clean. The reason for the 3 stars is its supposed to be a 5 star hotel, but the service at the bar area is terrible waiting half an hour for 1 bottle of cider and glass of wine is ridiculous. The price paid for a room, then the price of the drinks is crazy for that kind of service. The staff are nice. The Thai restaurant is very expensive but does taste very nice the bar service is what let this place down felt very unorganised for a 5 star
Always nice to go to crazy bear.
Lovely staff and service, fabulous food, will definitely return
This used to be a lovely hotel. But, spending £300 plus recently is a kick in the teeth!! I would honestly rather stay in the Travelodge. Please, please dont waste your money. This hotel is way overpriced and absolutely awful. Noteworthy details: Absolutely shocking
Top quality customer service, with friendly staff who are always happy to help and go out there way to make your stay remembered. The rooms are very funky and unique and thats really not a bad thing. Its probably one of the most unique and best hotels ans venue in the area. And well worth the experience Rooms: Unique rooms
Extremely unpleasant experience celebrating a special birthday at the Crazy bear Thai restaurant last night. No one to greet us upon arriving, waited 10 minutes and we had to approach kitchen staff to make waitresses aware. Unwelcoming greeting and shown to table that was falling apart which they tried to prop up unsuccessfully. They then reluctantly pushed a few tables messily together whilst we were waiting. The head waitress/host was very cold and condescending. At this stage we would have walked out had they not taken a deposit per head! We were then told we could not have the al a carte menu as we were a large group of 7, not ideal when we had 3 vegetarians and 2 children in our group. The food was average, loaded with sugar and not authentic Thai cuisine. Gratuity amount was ridiculous given service received. Ultimately we found the restaurant pretentious, unfriendly and overpriced.
I organized my sisters baby shower here. If youre not just looking for a bar, but also an experience, this is the right place! The presentation of the drinks is truly spectacular. The decor is absolute madness ;) At an average of 20 per drink, its a bit expensive - it has to be worth it. Definitely a good address for a special evening.
This was recommended to me by my instructor so hubs and I decided to drop by for dinner on my birthday since we were near the area. Lovely venue and very accommodating staff. Food is excellent. We went to the Thai restaurant and would love to come back and stay for a bit. Food and drinks: Delicious food and quality restaurant service. Would love to come back again.
What a amazing day and night we had thank you so much. Would recommend anyone to come here Rooms: Amazing rooms with everything you need
Not like it used to be ,having been several times todays visit was extremely poor .The service was appalling both in the restaurant and the lounge .The food was also luke warm what a disappointment today was .On a plus the surroundings are still beautiful.
We only ate at the restaurant, which was fantastic but well over price.
Recently stayed which was our 3rd stay at Crazy Bear, the room was as always gorgeous However a few niggles this time, the fire didnt work near the bath in the room which was disappointing, that would have definitely added to the experience The TV channels were not in synch so finding music to listen to was difficult and time consuming, there was also distortion via the signal so was crackly to listen to when we finally found any music channels Considering the costs to stay at CB and the most diligent attention to detail with everything from the exquisite decor to staff attentiveness as always this was disappointing for us this time. Somebody came to the room to show us how to turn on the fire but was unable to make it work. We did mention it again along with the TV issues when checking out and was told they would speak to maintenance. Previous visits no issues, just this time the above mentioned which were disappointing.
Lunch time dining at the Thai was very disappointed the food was predominantly pork In various forms very very greasy and uninspiring
If you like garish, paying through the nose and mirrored toilets this is the place for you
I was fascinated at see the advertising for this place. Although my first impression was wow it was spoilt by the you must have your credit card details as there is a £150 charge towards damages if any caused, 16% service charge on everything and the annoying waitresses who badger you to buy drinks. Checked in at 3 oclock and after waiting another hour for our room be cleaned on first very nice. However, on closer inspection the the room was getting tired. The copper bath was gritty in the bottom, the mirror above from which the water came out was all cracked, the bathroom radiator was very dusty and dirty as were the corners and shower tray and no tea or coffee facilities in the room. Didnt have breakfast too expensive so went to Browns across the road which was amazing. There is a very small car park otherwise roadside cramped parking. Would I stay again, no I wouldnt, was nice for a one off but certainly wouldnt want to go again.
The place is extremely expensive. They need to bring the vouchers back or to bring the prices down. Who would be willing to spend £5 on crisps? No one. They need to do something about that. Also, they should give some free small tapas included with the drink like some crisps, empanada, muffins, nuts... People are not rich and this is what people want. On the other hand, going there to watch the resident DJ do his job is very amusing. I do not fancy his style much but he is really charming and has a great physique (I wonder if he is single ).
Stayed here this weekend for my birthday, very quirky! Rooms were very different with an edgy vibe, our room had two baths centred in a marble wet room with his and hers sinks. We ate in the english restaurant and the steaks were amazing, service was good and the waitress was attentive to our needs. We used the pool which is set in a quaint area with cosy seating, lantern lights and heaters. Would definately stay again! Rooms: Quirky rooms with luxurious finishes, all cozy.
Came here for lunch for our 1 year anniversary. The place has the wow factor. Staff were attentive (didnt really have that I love my job vibe). Started off with a cocktail around the pool area. A nice touch. Had lunch in the English room. Ordered off the al la carte menu. Food was average to good. Nothing remarkable l. Spent close to £500 for lunch, wine and cocktails on a Sunday. Nothing complimentary for that amount spent on our anniversary, just some white chocolate writing on our already ordered desserts. Poor form in my opinion, considering every other diner was on the £30 roast dinner deal. I work in fine dining. That kind of spend for 2 people, especially on a special occasion something is always offered as complimentary. 13% service charge. Would I go back? For food, unfortunately not. For cocktails around the pool? Probably, yes.
Avoid wasting your time and money, customer service is bad, they don t answer the phone. There were NOT shampoo and hand soap, no products in the bathroom. No coffee, no tea and price for one night was £450, outrageous for the service they are providing. You have to buy yours in Tesco which is 3 mins walk Bed service. The manager hasn t responded to my emails Do not waste your money. The bathroom didn t have a door or any type of privacy to the bedroom, no windows in the bathroom and the main head shower, didn t work. So technically is only a bed service and the bathroom service was not in service.
Sadly it didnt live up to the hype. Venue is stunning and really well done. We had a Sunday roast and while the wine selection was good, the food was disappointing. Starters and dessert good, but the mains were dreadful, and I mean dreadful. Stale Yorkshire puddings, cold veg and very very fatty meat, like 40% of it. Not for us, wont go again.
Excellent service. Stunning room. Amazing food. Rooms: Stunning rooms. Food and drinks: Amazing food.
Thank you to Madisson for having probably the best customer service I have experienced in a long time!
Really nice place for a date. Service wasnt thst good we had to go and look for a waitress cuz once they serve your drinks they never check back to see how are you doing
Went for my 21st birthday stayed in room 7 shower tiles on floor were loose nearly slipped when wet, mirrors surrounding the shower were cracked and damaged. Asked for there to be some decoration for birthday occasion, got told this would be no problem and all i got was an a4 piece of paper saying happy birthday. Food menus basic and extremely overpriced along with everything else thats there. Mirrored ceiling was filthy dirty with god noes what on it. Don t even get a kettle with some tea or coffee. Overall very overrated and over priced wouldn t recommend to be honest and for the price of the room you would expect some more amenities in the room to make the stay enjoyable.
Loved this place
Amazing place. Great decor.
Excellent cocktails!
Special thanks to the sommelier who was so helpful with wine and excellent Waitress who only started on Wednesday, yet was very capable and naturally attentive. Handled some unfair customers superbly.
What a fantastic experience visiting the crazy bear in Beaconsfield! It certainly was special, the staff were very attentive and always on hand if you needed anything. We stayed in room 3, which was fabulous and part of the main house. The toilets in the hotel are very boujee! Loved them. Visited the thai restaurant for evening meal and was not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious. Staff again very nice. Made use of the pool (even in the rain) free glass of complimentary champagne upon arrival! Although it is very expensive £45 for 2 expresso martinis, it is certainly an experience I will never forget. I would certainly return! Also look on wowcher for deals when booking as they always have offers on (we booked the room, £80 meal voucher which we used at the thai restaurant, and a bottle of house wine was included with the meal). It was still pricey but worth it. Would highly recommend and plan to return in the future. Rooms: Decadent 3- fab room, bath at the end of the bed. Bath tub fills from the ceiling. Beds were super comfy! The bathroom was HUGE (note that there are no bathroom or toilet doors...) its literally just open and behind the bed. Food and drinks: Thai restaurant was amazing! The food was delicious. Also had breakfast included (continental only) but the selection of pastries was beautiful. And included unlimited fruit juice, tea and coffee. The beer wasnt a bad price, but wine and cocktails very expensive (but seem to be the general price within the area). The cocktails were amazing too!
The rooms are incredible, the restaurant and bar is a unique place to be. I just feel the business lacks integrity with the pricing of food and drink., they are charging because they can, not at a fair price. Next time if I go again I will buy food and drink elsewhere.
Do not book Thai massage!!! First time staying at this hotel. I mean it is an amazing hotel and everything about it is unique. The pool and lounge areas made you feel like youre in the middle east. The staff are very polite, friendly and very attentive. They even upgraded our room. The reason for my review is for the thai massage. My wife booked a massage using a voucher service for a discounted rate. This back fired on me instantly. When i got to the room i tried to be polite and asked what part of thailand shes from but no answer. From there she asked me how hard i like my massage and i replied firm. She went full power on me from there that after 10 mins i said not so hard but she ignored me and continued. It was almost unbearable but i didnt stop her as i didnt want my wife to think i was being ungrateful as it was for my birthday. Throughout the massage she yanked my shoulders a few time which felt angry. She also muttered to herself in thai three separate times. I think she was annoyed that it was a voucher booking. I mean she was just angry. I would never recommend anyone book that massage. The rudeness was nothing ive ever experienced. She doesnt deserve to be in that establishment and its enough to bring the whole thing down. She is the reason for the one star. I hope that someone sees this and looks into it as it almost feel like physical abuse. A potential court case waiting to happen. It such a shame because the hotel and staff were so amazing. Rooms: Very unique
Excellent eccentric themed rooms. Each room is completely different. Great for special occasions. Ate at the Asian restaurant that was great too. Had a continental breakfast.
Overall, this place is fantastic, but a few minor issues slightly detract from the experience. The pool, room, staff, and food, as you can see from my photos, are outstanding and truly deserve 5 stars. However, where it starts to fall short is with the service charge they automatically add to everything. While I know you dont have to pay it, we politely asked them to remove it when bringing our food and drinks because we felt it was excessive. The location is quite upscale, which is probably why they think they can impose these charges. However, I believe it would be better to include these costs in the final price rather than putting pressure on customers to pay extra. Ensuring all staff are paid above-average wages would cover these costs and create a more relaxed experience for guests. I highly recommend visiting this place as you will have a great time. If money is a bit tight, use websites like Wowcher and other deal sites to find offers. Paying full price for everything might not be worth it, but with the deals we found, it certainly was. Thank you so much to the staff, and we look forward to returning when more deals become available.
After reading previous negative reviews we were worried about our booked stay, however we had such a great time. On check in we were upgraded complimentary and shown straight to our room which had great amenities, a lovely big bath and a great waterfall shower. We relaxed around the pool in the afternoon and wondered around the town in the evening. The next day we booked in for a Thai massage which was a great massage and perfect finish to our trip. Rooms: The rooms are very different but beautiful. Very comfy and great amenities Nearby activities: The town of Beaconsfield is beautiful and a lovely place to walk around. The pool in the hotel is lovely.
Never been there to comment
I Stayed at the crazy bear this weekend for a one night get away. The staff was super friendly on arrival and we had a lovely entrance. During drinks we had staff members having public arguments about other members of staffs dress code. This was in the middle of the lounge so everyone could hear, it was very awkward. The room we stayed in was very expensive. Yet it had no tea or coffee, and the phone didn t work for us to contact room service. We had a neighbouring room playing dance music until 11:30pm. In the end we had to get dressed, leave the hotel (into the street) walk into the bar and ask someone to check the room as we couldn t phone them due to the phone not working. The staff knocked on the room but it was empty, forcing the staff to enter the room to find someone had just left loud music on and gone out. We then awoke at 3am with same room slamming doors and shouting. I understand this isn t staffs fault but it gives an idea of the clients at the bear. The crazy bear is a good location but it s extremely overpriced for dull dingy rooms with no extras that warrant the cost. The toilet was separated by a curtain and right next to the bed. You have no windows to open and it s very stuffy in there even with the air conditioning on. I d say if you re visiting this place be mindful it seems to be aimed at people going on a night out and coming home late for somewhere to pass out/continue the party, more than the luxury hotel experience it portrays.
Loved this place. They care about you having a great stay and the decor is bonkers. If you like sleek lines and white - its not for you. Its opulent and feels like youve stepped into another country and not off of the M25! Thank you I will be back. Solo travellers - you will love it1
Terrible experience, drinks overpriced, poor and substandard. Poor service with inexperienced staff. Most of all the animal themed decor unexpectedly removed.
What a great little place
Went here for Sunday lunch, really lovely food and excellent service
The deco was not to my liking. The toilets were too dark. Food and drinks were really good but overpriced. Food and drinks: The Thai restaurant served some delicious dishes but was pricey. Noteworthy details: The Thai restaurant isnt inside the Crazy bear main entrance. You have to walk a few doors down and there isnt an obvious sign to tell you its open.
Over priced, bar service terrible, little to no attention given to table service. Staff rude and disrespectful only interested in the chavvy insta credit card millionaire crowd The Thai restaurant was the best bit of our stay. The room was tired, not clean and the aircon didn t work and for £400 a night, not even a kettle in the room to make a cup of tea. To top it all off, there was music being played loud in the room next to us and on the balcony until 3am and no one at the hotel did anything about it. Save your money, or spend it at The Grove Hotel 15 mins down the road.
Brilliant Thai massage
Bought a Thai tasting deal from Groupon. We werent in the Crazy Bear, we were told it was down the road and to knock on a wooden door. Food was very good. Ample glass of champagne. We ordered one glass of wine extra and when we paid, we were presented with a £31 bill as there is 13% service charge. No idea this was coming, so it left a sour taste to the experience. Look at the actual location, we picked Beaconsfield, as you wont be in the main building.
The restaurant is rubbish, worse than your local takeaway. The decor is above average but nothing makes it worth the price. A HUGE let down. Dirty glasses, 7
Great decor. Just went for a coffee amd breakfast but no-one approached us to take our order so we went to the cafe on the corner.
If you like opulence and over the top decor, then this is for you. Moroccan feel.
Been here a couple of times always a good experience.
I went to the Crazy Bear Hotel to experience the Halloween Vampire Ball. When I arrived, you checked in, and the check-in desk is a double-decker bus! This establishment is an instagramers dream, full of quirky furniture and crazy decor! We booked a suite with a garden, the decor was amazing with a bath at the bottom of the bed which was lots of fun. My partner did notice it needed some renovation to the room, which considering the price you paid was slightly disappointing. The venue outside was beautiful. we were lucky, considering it was October, the sun was out, and it was really mild. So we got to walk around the grounds, which are stunning plenty of places to sit and have a drink it was a really good vibe. I can imagine its brilliant in summer! The actual event, the entertainment, was amazing combined of different acts, from singing to acrobatics to a lady with a snake! It wasnt just one long act either, which Im glad it was broken up with a dj or singer coming on and everyone hitting the dance floor! At the beginning of the act is when food is served, which is a buffet, which was really disappointing. The food was not great and not what I expected. Everybody dressed to impress people really make an effort with their costumes, which, for me, a Halloween Queen I absolutely loved!! The next day, you do get breakfast in with your room however it is only a section of the bar which has croissants and I think maybe cereal none of which appealed to me after a heavy nights dancing and drinking! There was the option to pay for a full english breakfast, which we did. The breakfast was really nice, not greasy, decent meat used however they did cost around £25 each and we had to pay for a side order of beans which when you pay £50 for two breakfast I feel beans should have been provided ha. It was a fantastic experience, and if not for the poor food at the event and the room not being to the highest standard, I would have rated a 5* however I feel how much money you spend in all everything should be high spec to get the 5*.
I have been looking forward for a long time to visit the crazy bear and finally decided to take my wife on our wedding anniversary. I was very disappointed as I think it was very over priced for what I had to eat plus it felt very claustrophobic dark and dingy.
It s a statement place to go! Glitz, glamour, gold, exotic fabrics, crystal. Ok, but drinks expensive, food average and sadly dress standards not upheld. I don t want to pay those prices for a nice venue and be sitting with diners in torn jeans, shorts etc.
I think a lot of the previous negative reviews about this place are quite unfair based on our experience last night! Our room was amazing (a suite), zero complaints. Yes it might be dark but this is exactly what you see in the advertising. Very spacious, the bath and bathroom were incredible and amazing blackout curtains for a good night sleep in a comfy bed. The cocktails, yes, a little expensive (as expected this close to London and in a fancy establishment!!), were amazing and strong too. The bar staff were young and bubbly - no issues with service here. We had Thai for dinner and this was a 5/5 dining experience. Not rushed at all, add incredible food. £120 deducted from our bill for the £45 each dinner credit and bottle of wine allocation. Staff were amazing. Breakfast was also lush. Only continental included in the deal (maybe this could be made a little more obvious in booking to avoid dissappointment) however it was an impressive continental and could order as much as you like. We paid the extra for the salmon and eggs and it was worth every penny. Most of the receptionists were pleasant especially a young girl with short hair who was very helpful, and Irene at breakfast gave exceptional service. Overall, we had a fabulous time and would come back again as a treat. I would urge you to ignore the negative reviews and make your own decision!
Service was great and the staff were friendly but left a little disappointed as I was asked specifically if it was a special occasion as they stated that they would do something for this. We turned up and were given a regular table. I wasnt expecting the full works but after being emailed specifically and asked about the occasion and nothing to show for it left me feeling slightly let down. Overall a nice evening and really good food. Food and drinks: Food and drinks were great. Slightly overpriced perhaps?
Really disappointed. £400 for a tired old room with lights hanging off the wardrobe and a shower you have to run around in to get wet. When arriving in reception the carpet was dirty and it smelt horrible. Which was just a sign of what was to come. The entire hotel was tired with rotten rusty flower pots around the outside drinking area and wripped curtains everywhere. The Thai restaurant I could cook better myself and we were charged £7 each for rice!!!!! The drinks were way over priced at £16 per cocktail. And £50 for bottle of wine. Overall really disappointed and just living off their name. Do not recommend. Dirty and disgusting.
In all honesty we were quite underwhelmed by our visit. Firstly, it was particularly difficult to make our reservation when we would call and get no answer from the Stadhampton hotel on various days. When they finally replied to my email, we were told there was no availability and had to instead book at the Beaconsfield hotel but on alternative dates. On arrival, there was no signage displayed on the exterior of the property to confirm we had the right place. The only giveaway was the large bear outside with a chain around its neck. We were also unable to get parked and had to park a good 5/10 minute walk away which was not ideal. When we were allocated our room, it was not quite what we expected. We were given room No1 and given the price we paid and the photos on your website, it did come over quite tacky and seedy in all honesty. Like most things the pictures look sooooo much better than the real thing, even my phone pictures make it look nicer. As soon as you walked in the room you was met with an overwhelming unpleasant smell in the room which I can only imagine was the smell of leather (I hope it was leather ) given the amount of it on the walls, ceiling and floors. We were disappointed not to have tea/coffee available in the room after a tiring journey. The sloped floors were also quite uncomfortable moving around the room particularly in socks. We were disappointed that no bubble bath or shower gel were supplied only shampoo and conditioner. This was unexpected given the huge bath in the room. It was also difficult to utilise devices with only one plug socket by the bed, my wife using the hairdryer, hair straighteners was a challenge when no plug by a mirror. The blinds where also broken and curtains were very dusty. We also had to listen to the thumping music from downstairs until 1230am, it was so loud I thought there could of been a DJ set in the room! As for the English restaurant, it was pleasantly decorated and staff were friendly but drinks were very expensive. We were also not particularly impressed with the 13.75% service charge added to our bill which included the prepaid portion of our bill!! While we were eating our meal, we were also approached by another diner advising that she was appalled by the additional charges added to her bill without being advised before her meal. She was warning other guests etc. She was asked to vacate the premises by the staff but in fairness I can understand her frustration. During breakfast we had a very long wait for service (35mins) and feel that a buffet for the continental breakfast would be much easier for guests and staff. Staff seemed rushed off their feet and very overwhelmed. We had to repeatedly ask for coffee and milk and did not receive all the items we ordered. (I only ordered pastries and toast and the toast didnt come) We didnt make a fuss as I couldnt be bothered to wait even longer and was quite keen to just check out to be honest and make our way home. This was probably also due to hearing a member of staff having a meltdown in the kitchen after feeling disrespected by another member of staff. We heard swearing and shouting and she seemed to feel very mistreated by her colleague. I dont blame her as most of the breakfast team seemed very busy and were receiving repeated complaints left & right from customers about service etc. So overall as I say we didnt have the best experience given we do not get much opportunity to have a night out together without the children. Would I go again.... No Would I go again if it was free... No Dont get caught up in the hype, spend your hard earned money somewhere else.
Had a 12 course taster meal, disappointed to find out estaurant was several doors down the road from crazy bear itself. Staff nice, food ok table in corner under a beam in not so greatly decorated restaurant dissapointing Rooms: Didnt stay overnight as over £400 and reviews were not good, stayed in another hotel with pool and spa for £160 Safety: Tables under low beams more of a problem rather than atmospheric Food and drinks: Food ok
Great service. Will go back again. The Thai Restaurant food was delicious! Rooms
Management refused to abide by the terms of a legitimately booked and processed Groupon voucher. In the end Groupon has to raise their own refund. Avoid.
The room was special to look at but lacking some real basics. The mattress was used, battered and sunken in the middle. I could not sleep on it. Only a curtain separates the room from the toilet from the bed so good luck if you need privacy. And the windows dont open so bring air freshener. Its so dark you cant read anything. The bath is uncomfortable to sit in and hard to get out of. My complaints about the bed fell on dead ears. Booked two nights and spent a total of 2 hours in the building, the rest of the time at home. I paid £750 for the pleasure. Horrifically overpriced rubbish. Ive had better experiences at Travelodge or Premier Inn.
We had an amazing experience at the Crazy Bear Beaconsfield. The food in the Thai restaurant was 5*, our room was unique and lived up to the crazy name and we couldn t have asked any more from the staff. If you haven t been before I would definitely recommend it. Food and drinks: They have 2 restaurants 2 choose from - Thai and English
Wow loved this place location deco in the rooms and restaurant and the lounges definitely recommend it for couples .. ate in the English restaurant food was nice and drinks were lovely definitely be coming back again also had a lovely good nights sleep and a lovely dip in the bathtub in the room with the water coming down form the ceiling
No one ever answers the phone. Being trying to call regarding a dinner reservation for the last few days and no one ever answers the phone. Not great service!!
Food was very mediocre and certainly overpriced. Fish cake was dry and tasteless. The John Dory was just dire and overcooked. Drinks were extortionate Definitely one to avoid
Just dropped in to check it out and nothing has changed, happy to have returned
A shambles and overpriced. Disappointing I stayed for 2 nights, decor is unique but fine. The wait in the restaurant and bar was unbelievable, clearly very understaffed. Once seated, it took 40 minutes to get the first round of drinks, let alone for someone to take our order. Staff no idea about menu, items listed as gluton free were not. The front desk was unable to provide an itemised invoice at check out and took 3 emails and 2 months for them to send us what we needed.
Unfortunately pay as you go service - order a drink and pay becomes a cheap Chevy establishment overnight- such a shame - establishment for the chavs only now
Had an excellent stay at The Crazy Bear. It was for our anniversary, and were given such a lovely reception from the team. Really appreciated it, and made the stay very special Beaconsfield is a great town, popped to Riwaz by Atul Kochhar for dinner. Highly recommended Will definitely pop back again. Thank you
A wonderful experience enjoying the 3 course Sunday lunch with friends today - 9th June. The sommelier was great in suggesting a particular wine, and recommended a wonderful dessert wine to finish. Truly a wonderful experience. Thank you all.
pls dont stay here unless you look rich. the staff have no time for anyone that doesnt look rich. i know i dont look rich because i am not rich and i saved up for a long time to stay here. and i had the worst time
We had a one night stay here which overall was lovely. We had a Thai massage which was very good in a lovely relaxation hub. Then we had lunch in the English restaurant, we used the set menu options which overall made it very good value for money, the food was really nice. I saw some reviews of dry meat with the roasts but we didnt find that at all! Finally the room itself was nice, the bed was really comfortable. The furniture is a bit dated for sure but still absolutely in usable condition and comfy. Overall its slightly overpriced for what it is but its something different to experience! The staff are lovely and so keen to help. The village is quiet with nice shops to walk around.
Had a nice thai massage at Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield. Masseuse is skilled and applied the right amount of pressure to the trigger points. Ambience was nice and relaxing. Thank you for the service. Would recommend!
We have been many times to the Crazy Bear Beaconsfield, this was the first time that we stayed. Had a very good Thai massage they manage to fit the whole body in including face and head and at no point did you feel she was rushing. The evening we had the Thai meal which was very good except one dish, we were asked why we had left it and said the chicken was hard they ask if anyone had checked with during the meal if everything was ok and they had not so removed this from our bill. This shows how good the service is here to rectify problems without any big issues. This was the first time we have ever had a problem one any dish. The following day had lunch in the English restaurant, which was very good as always. Looking forward to our next visit. Rooms: Only stayed twice but décor is amazing. Not cheap but well worth it for special nights. Nearby activities: The Thai massages are excellent Food and drinks: Great bar, décor amazing serve probably the best French coffee has a chocolate liquor in it as well which makes it so smooth. Food is always good been many times
If you fancy a touch of extreme lavishness, this is definitely the place for you. I found it by accident call work reasons Im now planning a return visit with my wife for a much more interesting an enjoyable stay
What a lovely, classy place.
We came here to celebrate my birthday and also our anniversary! I must say the room was amazing! Was expensive but you would expect that! I would like to say Lillie and Dave were absolutely incredible and made you feel so welcome, we didn t get a chance to say thank you to them so thank you so much for all your help whilst we stayed at the crazy Bear . Would definitely recommend coming
Beautiful decor. However, it was the worst service I ve ever experienced. Took an hour and a half before we received our drinks, and when we complained after it happened again, the bar manager became hostile, and refused to serve us. Food and drinks: Wouldn t know, took an hour and thirty minutes before we received drinks.
Amazing food and friendly service.
Been before and its been amazing but not this time. The service was just ok. During some courses, cutlery was just dropped down on the table. Some courses we were asked to pass our plates! Pass our plates! Were not going around your nans house for tea.. Walk around and pick them up, do it properly. Whilst the servers smiled a bit to smooth it out, honestly it just looked like loads of inexperienced young staff (not their fault) - no problem with that but when they are in Weatherspoons service mode in here, thats a problem. The food was, mostly bang average. One course was great the rest.. All a bit limp. The cheese and biscuits finisher looked more like one of my sons school cookery experiments. We also went for a few drinks at the bar. No tab! What! We had to pay as drinks arrived each time and were given some bizarre story about me systems.. Round of drinks was 70 quid each go with the (pretty average) service. The vibe of the place is gone. Low standards of dress code, the rear part had people all over the place, kids over the floor (no problem with kids - got 2 myself). For the money, give this a miss and spend yours elsewhere, where you can get the service and experience that crazy bear money demands.
Interesting restaurant - went for a birthday meal. The place looks more like a messy mix between a nightclub / private club / dodgy looking boudoir than a restuarant. Decor was a little too garish for me, but I can see how it may appeal to others. Parking was awful/extremely limited. Staff were engaged, very polite and for me probably the only positive aspect. But we did not go there to engage with the staff, we went for the signature menu with circa 7 courses which sounded appealing. The food was very much a disappointment though....almost all of it. The beef was especially dry, overdone and dripping in sauce perhaps to hide the issues. Neither of us could even eat it....took a few bites and had to stop. Everything else on the menu was below par. The only part of the meal that was partially decent was the mid course sorbet. Drinks/cocktails was mainly ice, overtly diluted and massively over-priced. I really expected a much higher food quality. ;(. The x2 heavies at the door was unexpected ..... Probably close to our worst dinning experience ever....more irritating when you factor in the price. We will not return.
Check in is from 4pm which is far too late to then enjoy the pool facility, as its only open for use in daylight hours. (no lighting or lifeguard?) and youll literally need to walk across a zebra crossing in your bath robe in winter (are you mad?) Room (Suite) was across the road also, & definitely style over substance. Blinds with curtains that you cant draw closed, as they are just screwed in place for aesthetic purposes only. Room climate control was not getting hot enough & was pretty noisy thus keeping me awake. Bathroom had a sharp (chest height) tile corner that would cause serious injury if you slipped on the wet tiled floor. Rising tv at the foot of the bed was slow to rise/close & hindered my feet when in the closed position. The layout of the room made the room feel dark & cramped as its separated in to two sections, rather than a big open room which would be much better. The service in the restaurant was fine, but the food was SERIOUSLY lacking & we sent back THREE dishes. Two other guests complained also about food quality & temperature. We literally had to get refunded on the food for dinner, & because of this we decided to skip breakfast & check out. For approx £350 a night we would not recommend this hotel. We were not even compensated for our experience, which just sums up this hotel I guess.
Ideal relaxing place with essential minimal amenities, excellence in the mid urban centre.
A unique and memorable venue worth a visit, good food!
We went for a 7 course tasting menu including Champagne, a deal on Groupon and I would say great value for money, lovely vibe, decor, atmosphere (Friday night, DJ but not too loud in the restaurant), incredible foot. Highly recommend. Will be returning
We really enjoyed our stay and especially our room which was very cool! Rooms: Really cool decor and bathrooms Rooms : 5/5 |
We had a 12 course signature Thai meal from Virgin experience days ay the Crazy bear Thai restaurant. Probably the worst iv had in a long time. Duck and crispy pork was dry AF. Only best thing there was the shrimp crackers
What a place, fantastic place, amazing decor,
Beware the Crazy Bear!! Booked via Groupon for a special birthday our experience of the Crazy Bear Beaconsfield was terrible to say the least. On arrival we were taken across the road and up 3 flights of stairs to a Attic room. We did not book a Tiny room type, but tiny is not the word, the door hit the bed on entry, you had to be a acrobat to get round one side of the bed as the roof line, was so close. The receptionist proudly showed us the and here is your full wet room behind a curtain was a toilet, sink and shower, great, but i have been in bigger toilets on an EASYJET flight. Absolutely terrible! After our initial shock and absolute disappointment, we decided to get a drink in the hotel bar. The hotel operates a 100% table service in the bar area. This was decorated in a eclectic mix of Arab souk come only way is Essex type vibe. We sat and waited, probably over 20 minutes. Finally we were served, but then waited another 10 minutes to get our drinks. when they were finally delivered to us we had to pay immediately and a service charge was added for the pleasure! We moved seats to be closer to the main bar as where we had sat was cold and dark, only to gain wait over 20 minutes to get served. I even went to the bar to be told that they could not serve us and to wait. When we were finally served, i asked the server to remove the service charge to be asked why? Really???????? We then went to the pub across the road and had a great time for a fraction of the cost. Included in our Not value for money package was a meal in the attached Thai restaurant. With a very limited choice and very very expensive add on ( Rice £8.30 for a cup! ) our experience just got worse. The food was average to say the least, and nothing i ate had any Thai flavours. Very very poor. Desert, you have to laugh, a choice of ice creams, but only allowed one scoop! To be fair, breakfast ( continental included ) was good and the quality of the food was nice, and service was better ( but only one member of staff seemed to know what was going on ) What i have taken from this hotel and my advice is Beware, you may think you have a deal but you dont It is massively overpriced The service is terrible throughout Unless you are in a suite the rooms in the travel lodge next door are bigger Its very very very expensive 100% Not value for money I am lucky that i do get to travel a lot and i have been to many hotels, this has to be one of the worst i have ever stayed in, AVOID!!!
We booked the crazy bear for our 1st anniversary due to the great reviews we had heard but to be honest we felt pretty let down, the staff was friendly but it s way over priced for what it is. We booked with Groupon so got a discount down from £550 to £360, this included evening meal and breakfast. The menu was basic and most things you had to pay an extra charge (£10 for steak and £6 for chips) I think we ended up paying £50 extra. Breakfast was the same so we decided to skip it after seeing the prices and went to a cafe, rooms was nice but the shower is very low (I m 5 11 and couldn t fit underneath it). If someone was to ask me if I would go again or recommend the crazy bear I d say no it way to over priced for the experience you get.
Honestly not worth the money. Suite is nice and staff are lovely. It is overpriced for what it is. Beware of the package deals - 3 course dinner and breakfast means you only get the cheap options and we still had to pay an extra £100 each to get meat options (such as chicken and prawns) at dinner and to get breakfast that isnt cereals and pastries.
Nice food and drinks. Pricey as always but still great
We came to The Crazy Bear Beaconsfield to celebrate a friend s birthday with an afternoon tea booked at 4 o clock. We arrived at 3 o clock to sit and have a drink by the pool. We felt completely ignored as staff kept walking past us and took no notice of us trying to order . We didn t get drinks till just before 4 . It turned out our table for tea wasn t ready and no one came to us till 5 o clock to take our orders for tea. When our food came we still didn t have any pots of tea . After asking twice some got their tea some didn t. The service was so bad and the selection of small cakes were very poor for £37 a head . The ambiance is lovely but the poor service spoilt our day .
Interesting boutique hotel, not a keen fan of the decor and the layout...located along the high street, parking is restricted and very few in number. You will need to find suitable spaces along the side roads etc. Couldnt really locate the hotel as there was no signage outside the main entrance to advise (just a statue bear image lol) We came to celebrate a friends 40th birthday with so our party consisted of 30+ ladies; we had their afternoon tea. I felt it was a little too dark for me but thats a personal preference! Quite a lot of seating areas both outside and within. We used the large private area for an occasion however the toilet assigned to that area had no lighting so we had to use our phones flashlight (very weird for an establishment like this) and more surprising is the location of this toilet (right next to the kitchen back entrance) The staff were friendly and helpful but it seemed like the 2 people assigned to us were overwhelmed with the service. The afternoon tea itself was a bit underwhelming, the sandwiches were ok but some had raisins in them, the scones were not the greatest, the tea selection were ok, I didnt enjoy the sweet treats. Sorry but not value for money in my opinion. The main toilets just as you enter the hotel were spectacular with the glass decor all around, however as soon as you enter the ladies, there is no partition so right beneath the wash hand basin, you can see into the mens toilet (like everythinggggg...that was shocking for me; and the men can see through the ladies as well) Loads of chandeliers and hidden rooms. There is a bar area serving all sorts. I didnt get a chance to see the rooms but going by what I saw so far, I would save my money! Would I recommend? Not sure but doubtful..just my honest opinion but please feel free to visit and make your own assessment
Went for cocktails for daughters 21st. Table service only in the bar and the whole vibe felt stilted and awkward. Random couples dotted about trying to look cool. Took absolutely ages to be served and was handed the bill way before the drinks even arrived, which also took ages. We asked for the service charge to be taken off. 4 cocktails and 4 soft drinks were nearly £100. Wed eaten somewhere else as had read reviews of both restaurants and they werent good. Wont ever be going back.
Excellent
We visited the crazy bear in beaconsfield for my birthday and my partner proposed during our trip! The staff were amazing and so attentive, the room was gorgeous and the restaurant and bar were fabulous. Highly recommend!
Went for afternoon tea for friends birthday so room score is marched to where we were sat down to eat. Food was sort of ok but not for the price. Chairs uncomfortable to eat from. I was perched on a stool that was about a foot higher than the low table. Also had to pay extra for the tea! (?) Service was very friendly but slow and forgetful. Would not recommend.
We went for a 7 course menu and champagne..the food was pretty average, the staff were rude and I helpful and the place was dusty and very dirty! Do not go total waste of money!
So utterly disappointed. Regulars at their Stadhampton venue So really excited to see the Flagship . On arrival met by sullen unresponsive counter staff . Finally having checked in and still with our bags ,we were offered our complimentary drink . On saying not sure we were able to carry those and our bags. The reception staff said they would accompany us to our room . 1st non informed fact . We exited the hotel walked through the street across a road and into another building. As usual quirky room not big but furnished in stylish if slightly faded exuberant manner. . TV controls ,door entry not explained either and no hot drinks drink requires a walk back to main hotel. However during daytime there is a delightful little coffee shop on the route back . After that we settled in to our room ,which on further exploration was found not to be as meticulously clean as we are used to at Stadhampton. However we overlooked that in favour of enjoying the spectacle of the room To the pool for pre dinner drinks Warm sunny day sat around the pool enjoying the ambience of the Moroccan tents tables and chairs to be approached by another sullen unwelcoming member of staff for a drinks order. The drinks are expensive but to be expected for the surroundings two drinks each down and 60 mins later we left This was after twice receiving the wrong drinks whisky instead of liqueur, beer instead of lager this then meant had to walk to bar to change drinks together with more sullen faces.Booking to room number would also reduce annoyance at being almost harassment attitude for instant payment..Pool left changed for dinner walk around surroundings prior to dinner was pleasant, Church bells ringing warm evening pre dinner drinks left us in anticipation of our Thai dinner, after all Stadhampton Thai restaurant is a gastronomic heaven staffed by exuberant caring interactive staff making the experience a true delight Whoa !! different world greeted us ,more sullen staff orders that we only had the table for a allocated time . Orders taken for complete meal ie starters, mains, dessert and drinks at one ask . Prompt delivery of starters followed by instant delivery of mains literally on my completion of my last mouthful whipped away and dessert arrived . Not pleasant we left feeling we had lost enjoyment of our meal to time restraints and the need to turn the table ie money . Incidentally if we had stayed our spend would have been considerable as it was a birthday celebration just a observation. To the bar where on waiting to be served we also left and had 2 bottles of Champagne not the cheap Lanson on show at the Bear around the corner with friends at a local hostelry ( more revenue lost). To bed slept well once air-conditioning stopped , our choice only because windows didnt open . Breakfast we normally have cooked ( an extra around 16 pounds at Stadhampton) ,however after standing in the Foyer in a queue for breakfast, listening to everyone else complaining we opted for continental so as to alleviate the queue its called empathy this establishment seems devoid of it . Perfectly good adjacent bar area would have accommodated the whole queue with tea / coffee whilst we waited but again no leadership. We going to stay and invite our friends to lunch we didnt ( more lost revenue) instead choosing to stop enroute home for lunch . I blame leadership, management for abject failure to maximise the revenue possible using polite ,courteous service of quality product in a setting with such a unique if slightly faded unique selling point . Some people we spoke to had come on a package expecting a bill of 2 to 3 hundred pounds on top . We expected a bill of 5 to 600 but due to poor service and discourteous attitude we spent our money elsewhere in the town which is a pleasure to walk round . Many people on the day also seemed dissatisfied. My recommendation would be stay at Stadhampton and avoid the Beaconsfield venue . Thanks for keeping us in the top 1% and 40 k views last month we are very grateful. Food and drinks: If the service matched the ambience the drinks prices would be acceptable. It did not
I went for a massage at the Crazy Bear yesterday. It was a dark dingy and not so clean room with no air conditioning. I was a really hot day! The girl performing the Massage did not even know what arthritis was and I had to explain to her not to push on my painful finger joints. The massage was very basic and I did not enjoy it and couldn t actually wait to leave. When I left the premises, nobody even bothered to ask me how it was?? I will not return there for a massage
We took friends from overseas to The crazy Bear. We had lunch at the Thai restaurant then had tea and coffee by the pool. I definitely see a pool party here in my future. The 12 course menu was amazing. Service was great and food delicious. I want to go back and stay over for a weekend. Decor was amazing and the staff super friendly. Loved the bathrooms.
Booked a room to realise that it s adults only. Just lost £200 as was going with my son. Also they don t answer your calls just get hung up on. In addition had reserved dinner online which was all in Chinese ?
My family and l went for Sunday Lunch today, March 31 2024. Having read some very negative reviews beforehand l was expecting the worst. I could not have been more wrong! Staff and service were great, food was great and overall experience was fabulous! Im sad to see that some customers didnt have the same experience that we did. What l would say is dont be put off by poor reviews.....go and make your own mind up. We will definitely visit again and recommend to anyone willing to listen! Food and drinks: Food, service and ambience were excellent! Well be back for more!
We came for an afternoon tea. We got lost and drove past it 5 times as no signs saying it was the crazy bear hotel and had to phone them up to get to it. We had to park half a mile away as small car park was full. It was to far for my elderly parent to walk. We were welcomed by nice staff and got shown to our table. The food and tea came . The tea was very nice as were the sandwiches. The scones were hard and tasted stale. The chocolate thing was sickly and the finger cake was to sweet. It was not worth £36 per person. It could of had some quiches or sausage rolls etc to make it worth the money. I think it should only be about £20 per person . Wouldnt go back
I was told i was not allowed to sit where one wants despite the fact that here were ony three couples in the entire English restaurant. This was resolved after some time. disappointing start. My pillow was lumpy. Like a hostel pillow. The other pillow had staines all over it. Not enough hangers in the very small wardrobe. The hostel isnt Sign written at the front of the hotel. I tried to call the hostel for three days prior to my visit. Every call whent unanswered! I asked for the bill for dinner to be split. Even this was a massive issue taking an hour to achieve as the waitressinformedme at the time of dinner that receptionwill easily achieve this small request... This resulted to an entire hour to simply check out. I missed a very important meeting due to the fact. A holding fee of £150.00 was debited from my card on arrival. I was informed that this will be refunded after six days has passed. I didnt Not agree to nor was I made aware of these terms before hand. On arrival. At the price point this hotelis held at. The service doesnt match. I can not say I was satisfied. Quite the opposite. I will not be returning.
Great bar and restaurant. Amazing service . Definitely will come back
My partner and I decided to use a voucher we received for Christmas to try out the 12 sharing course at Crazy Bear Restaurant, and boy, am I glad we didnt pay full price for it. The food was pretty underwhelming - I mean, who serves naked Snickers bars and popcorn for dessert? And dont get me started on the main courses. The linguine was drowning in a tasteless sauce, and the meat on the other course was as dry as a desert. As for the ambiance, it may look fancy in pictures, but in reality, the carpeted walls and gold-painted ceiling felt a bit tacky. And the rooms? Forget about it. We didnt stay overnight, but the reviews we read about them being dirty and dusty definitely put us off. And lets talk about the drinks. I nearly choked when I saw the prices. Thirteen pounds for a tiny double shot, plus another £4.50 for a coke to go with it? 17.50 for one drink. A bit extreme On the bright side, the service was decent. The staff made sure our dishes were served promptly, but unfortunately, that was the only highlight of the evening. Overall, I wouldnt rush back to Crazy Bear anytime soon.
Such an amazing place, so different from the norm and my fiancée absolutely loved it for her 40th Birthday. The copper bath needs a proper polish to bring it back to its best but that s just nit picking.
The rooms are cool but besides that it really doesn t represent value for money. We were charged a service charge for every round of drinks ordered at the bar area. Food wasn t great and the breakfast that s included was very poor. Wouldn t recommend, better off going abroad for that price!
Too pricey, not worth the money.
Very poor, food average at best, chairs uncomfortable, wallpaper peeling on the ceiling. Horrendously Overpriced.
Very lovely atomoshere in the Moroccan bar. Very delicate blends of teas supplied and lovely afternoon tea. Not rushed to finish in any way at all. Will go back soon.
It has no sign on the front
I ve waited 12 days before I wrote this review as I ve been waiting for a response from the manager which still hasn t got back to me even though I ve emailed 3 times and called 5. We booked a Thai massage and meal for my wife s birthday. The two lady s which carried out the massage was extremely rude from start to finish. No smiles and didn t seem Like they wanted to do the work. Apart from there rudeness the massage was good. We was happy with the restaurant food and staff from start to finish. My main reason for this review is poor customer care from the managers. For such a cost we expect a better service We will be not using them again.
We came to celebrate our anniversary and a rare night away from our baby on Friday, 12th April 2024, we were really looking forward to it. I d been wanting to stay at the Crazy Bear for ages as was super excited with the gothic style rooms. We were given the stay as a gift from our wedding so was over the moon to receive it! Whilst the room was novel (albeit not the room with the bathtub in that I had really wished for) The room did need a bit of TLC as the sink had a huge crack in it, there was a chip on the toilet seat and the leather in the bathroom windowsill needed some love as was worn. The service was honestly terrible. Whilst it looked like there were loads of staff, none of them seemed to be working. For dinner we had a meal booked in the English restaurant we had 3 courses included and ordered the Duck/ Steak with Sauces and then Desserts. The food was lovely. The sauce was forgotten so I had asked for it to be brought over before the food went cold. Dessert took 30 minutes to come out after our mains had been taken away and another table who had ordered after us got theirs before us which was very frustrating. The complimentary breakfast service was like an episode of Faulty Towers in all honesty. A young waitress sat us down and gave a very quick spiel of, The complimentary continental breakfast is included with your stay but everything else is an additional cost which firstly made it super confusing as to what was included as there were prices with all the continental options so no real advice on what was included and what wasn t. The restaurant for breakfast at 9.30am was full of diners but no one had any breakfast albeit we are talking about continental which involves next to no cooking. 3 tables left during our wait to even place an order, due to no orders being taken. There was no waiters in the actual restaurant for many of the minutes we sat there waiting. A customer finally managed to grab someone to come in to the dining room and take orders. We eventually had our order taken after sitting there for 25minutes who took all orders, from all diners at once then slowly input them all into a computer and then we waited. People who had sat down after us again got their food first even though they had cancelled their orders. Coffees were being brought out one at a time which was insane. Eventually I asked the same girl who had sat us down, how long is this all going to take we ve been waiting 35minutes for croissants and yogurt she said she would go and find out and then literally never came back to tell me. Food came out 10 minutes later with no apology of a delay. It was great yogurt but the croissant actually did not come out warm and was slightly over cooked but why am I waiting for 45minutes to eat granola and yogurt? In all that time only one filter coffee was given. We came to check out at 11am no one was on reception for 10 minutes and there was a queue. We were told when we checked in that reception was manned 24hrs a day. Eventually someone came who was very lovely and understood our concerns and removed all service charge which we felt terrible doing because the food was delicious when it eventually came out! The wait time is inexcusable when you have the amount of staff that you do and I have never seen 3 sets of tables get up and leave due to wait times for continental breakfast. Its laughable. For the prices you are charging for the rooms and the food you should be sorting out the fact the customer isn t coming first. We still had a great anniversary but it was more because if we didn t laugh about the absolute shambles we were facing we would have had really depressing time. Thank god for the lemon drop cocktail as that was fantastic.
Great meal with my family for my birthday! Food was delicious and unusual drinks fabulous
Disgusting tasteless food served absolutely cold. Even main course! The chairs, tables are filthy, even cutlery had dirty stains. The chairs are supposed to be white/ cream but were grey with black stains. Even dark light in the restaurant could not hide filth. The menu is all covered in oily stains. Have taken photos!!!. I wonder how they got hygiene certificate! The waitress swept crumbs from the table next to our table using a dry cloth/ towel. Any other mess on the table could be cleaned only using wet wipes or spray. Nothing of that was used. The family presented us with a gift voucher to have a meal at Crazy Bear. Left gutted and feeling robbed. Food and drinks: Disgusting tasteless food served absolutely cold. Even main course! The chairs, tables are filthy, even cutlery had dirty stains. I am SOOO upset with my stay and also attested avoid at all cost!!! I spent around £800 and you d expect five start service for this and an unforgettable experience, it was unforgettable but for all the wrong reasons! Decor and dining room bar area is outdated and boiling hot so uncomfortable cocktails and wine are poor I ask the manager why there was strange almost debris in the bottom of our glasses to be told the wine had crystallised as it s been laying around for a while (not sure that s what people want to hear) The dinner menu was very limited and strange! The steak was served with food gras which isn t actually English so unsure why it s on the English menu and only other choice was pigeon and black pudding so very very odd choices! I asked the remove the food gras and what else the steak was served with the answer was a bit of bread which again I ve never in my life heard of being served with steak!!! I asked to change to Thai this seemed to be an issue but was eventually agreed to as the other choice would be to literallly go elsewhere! We had a drink in the bar after and I went to the toilet what I came out the bar staff were standing around with a plastic bag with white ponder in it smelling the bag I can only assume this was the work out which illegal substance was in the bag! I had seen a two year old child in the bar earlier and I was very very shocked by this! I asked what was going on to be told our clients love a bit of the white powder and they often find it and can t actually control it a further conversation led to them revealing they knew exactly who this belonged to and he was a regular and maybe if we d have come on a Saturday they d be a feel party going on! I was not there for a party me and my husband have three young children and wanted a break it was his birthday and I feel it was ruined by this event occurring I told the reception on check out about the experience she said nothing she could do and I must pay up and email which I did and since leaving crazy bear I have tried and tried and tried to contact manager Liam and he ignores every email I send then finally got hold of the general manager who eventually called me and he agreed to call me the next day with a solution and no call was ever made to me! I feel no option but to take matters further This establishment in my opionin is cringy run down overpriced and has a load of terrible staff with terrible service and not at all worth £800 in fact I feel completely robbed Rooms: Sweaty horrible dark dingy bed sheets need modernising
I booked the superior room with breakfast and a 3 course meal via wowcher I booked dinner for 8pm. When I tried to book my room they told me there s none available baring in mind I tried to book 5 weeks in advance and I d have to either pay more for a junior suite or they ll put 50£ on my room tab To downgrade the room, I paid the extra for a junior suite for the bath. When we got into the room we had no hot water for 3 hours , and by the time the water was back we had to go for dinner. We had to have a cold shower and didn t get to use to bath. Our dinner then got moved later last minute which is awful the fact I booked 5 weeks in advance. In the morning I woke up to there being a massive leak in the bathroom which we then was unable to use the shower and didn t have time to use the bath as checkout was in an hour and needed to have breakfast before- there was no offer to move us to another room or have a late checkout to be able to shower/ bath before leavin. I paid a lot of money and was not able to use the facilities very very disappointed. Then when I email to make a complaint there has been no reply.
An amazing experience - spending the extra amount and stay in one their suites is worth it. Beautiful hotel in a lovely area of the UK. We had Thai food in their restaurant in the evening which was excellent too. Service is above expectations and nothing is impossible. Will return
The room was great and we enjoyed the food and drinks, although the drinks are hugely overpriced. The decor was lovely and it s a beautiful setting. The guy that showed us to our room and ladies on reception when we checked in were great but that is where the good service ended. I waited so long after we finished our main course for them to clear the plates and offer desserts that I gave up and asked for the bill. The waitress then told us it might not look busy but it is and we have a private function but they should staff accordingly with the prices they charge, it shouldn t affect our very expensive stay and meal. She then told us if we leave a 5 star review they will give us a bottle of champagne on our next visit. I want good service, not freebies for leaving good reviews. They should work on the service rather than bribing people to leave good reviews! Finally when I checked out I was charged £75 for the late check out and drinks I d ordered to the room which I was expecting. I asked these could be deducted from the £150 they had held at check in. She said quite rudely no, that is for incidentals and I said those things would be incidentals and she said no, they are extras .. I am attaching here a dictionary explanation of incidentals, showing that it means extras what a ridiculous rude response. So I paid £75 and have to wait for the £150 which they apparently took for no good reason as I wasn t allowed to use it for incidentals/extras and will get that back in a few days . Great place, awful service unfortunately!
We stayed in a deluxe room just down the road from the main building, and for the most part were very pleased with our room, except for just a few things: being right next to the pavement outside, for privacy we had to shut the blinds, but the lighting was so dim I could hardly see to put on my make-up and theres no provision for turning it up brighter; we ironed a shirt and the ironing board had no padding at all, so just like ironing on metal with a cloth over - thankfully the iron had a light on it so we could see what we were ironing, and lastly for the price you pay for the room its a bit poor that there are no tea and coffee making facilities included - just a bottle of still water, which doesnt hit the spot when you want to chill in the room with a cuppa. Having said that, the Crazy Bear was a great experience, if not a tad expensive, but we would go back again
Basic food, chavvy decor and rude service
We stayed in a suite. To be honest I loved it. The wet room with the heated floor was just a beautiful touch. There isnt anything complimentary when you go into the room which was a bit rubbish. Kind of expect to have a coffee when I wake up before I get dressed especially for that price. There also wasnt a mini fridge anywhere but the staff did instantly get a bucket of ice for us when we asked, oh, and the glass table was smashed. But all in all it was comfortable and we had so much fun. In that room. All the staff were phenomenonal The food was glorious in evening and at breakfast. I would strongly recommend this place for a date night.
Its very overpriced food it was okay but I dont think I will go back. The decor is quite fun
Spent a lot of money for outstanding customer service and this was far from that. Still waiting on a response for my complaint! Purchased chocolate strawberries for the room, these just looked like they came from Tesco s and only 8 on the plate. Waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged in the restaurant, then a further 50 minutes for our drinks, but by this point we had our starters! It s disappointing considering how much money you are spending. Do not go here. I then tried to tell a gentleman at check out about my experience and he was just extremely rude.
We went for Sunday lunch in the restaurant and the staff were attentive and pleasant. They were a little disjointed though - we had 3 waitresses asking us for our drinks order within the space of 5 minutes...they also missed 2 drinks. The food myself and 1 friend had was spot on, delicious. But my other friend had a dry lamb roast with didnt look very fresh. The place itself it quirky and luxurious, but it is a bit tired. The area surrounding the pool is so cool and unique....but again a little shabby. Could do with a bit of a facelift. Overall, we had a nice lunch and catch up but some attention to detail is required.
I love the place
Dont book here, worst customer service. They miss sell you when you book online regarding Bath tubs in rooms. Staff are rude on the phone cant even speak to a manager. Heard this place has gone down hill the last couple years.
A disappointing stay after spending over £500! The main issue for us was the room, it wasnt clean at all! It really needs a deep clean, this made us feel uneasy. We raised a formal complaint to the Duty Manager when we checked out and she said she would look into this and get her Manager to phone us that afternoon, 5 days later we still havent received any communication. The couple in front of us also complained and the couple after us were complaining! There are better places to stay for the money and after the poor Customer Service we have received I would go elsewhere.
Amazing venue, fabulous food and wine. Staff exceptional. A must go and experience place! We will now be regular customers. Rooms : 5/5 |
We had a junior suite and on entering the room youre mistaken for thinking that the lights were turned off and that the curtains were closed, but no, the room is exceptionally dark. The bathroom didnt have a door but a curtain that didnt completely cover the entrance which I found rather discerning. The room itself was strangely uncomfortable, it was a case of style over comfort. The staff were decent enough. The food was decent enough but definitely well over priced for what it was. This also goes for the drinks in the bar. You would probably be better served taste and value wise with local restaurants and bars.
Food and drinks: Brilliant food and drinks with great ambience. We had an amazing time and have gone back on numerous occasions. Will visit again. Rooms
fantastic room, comfortable bed, large bathroom, but no kettle and thats the only minus
Wonderful experience all round the room the massage the food the service
Spectacular!
Its not my style, but its worth seeing.
Expensive
The room was amazing. The food was amazing. The food service was 5+ star. The hotel is genuinely one (well two of a kind). Docked a star because food and drink a little overpriced. Too long to wait (20 mins) mins for (amazing) cocktails on busy Saturday eve. Slight lack of attention to detail. Broken glass on feature table. One of many light bulbs gone. Im being picky given the total price paid. Would probably return. One day.
Really lovely hotel
Food and drinks: Fabulous meal and service - love The Crazy Bear! Service
