I am writing to express my sincere admiration for a restaurant that has consistently exceeded my expectations. Having worked in the restaurant industry for over 15 years, I understand that it is challenging to satisfy every customer. However, my experiences at this establishment have been exceptional. From its initial location on Downsview, I have witnessed the restaurants commitment to quality and service. While opinions may vary, I believe that the way customers treat the staff significantly influences their experience. Despite the common discussions about service quality, I have found the service here to be commendable. The food is truly exceptional, prepared with utmost care and taste. The owner is humble and kind, always ensuring that visitors have a pleasant experience. If you are planning an event, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. It is very convenient to make reservations, and you will undoubtedly be pleased with your choice. THE BEST PEPPER SAUCE YOU WILL EVER HAVE!

The 1 star is an overstatement here. If you have $20 to waste on a box of plain noodles mislabelled as chowmein this is your place to be. The noodles were stiff and drowning in garlic tasted like straight trash and the chicken was drier than the sahara. Bought this for dinner just to throw it in the garbage. Don t waste your hard earned money here.

Great Guyanese food.

A vibrant Guyanese sports bar, serving up bold, flavorful Guyanese cuisine, with a lively atmosphere featuring a DJ and plenty of room to catch the game.

Calypso hut has been around forever and they have some of the most authentic West Indian Chinese food flat out. They are one of the few Guyanese restaurants that have Char siu red fried chicken just like in Guyana at some places.

The ambiance is superb, I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was amazing and the service is fantastic. We all enjoy the delicious food (especially the pepper shrimp, wings,lowmein,fried rice and also the west indian dishes). From Thursday night to Saturday night its a conplete vibe in there after 9pm. I would definitely suggest this place to anyone. Keep up the good work Jerry.

We bought there special chicken fried rice, special chicken chowmein and BBQ duck. I could give no star and i would never recommend this place to no one food is garbage don t waste your money.

I like the atmosphere and music but the problem is the music is too loud that they couldn t hear my order properly and messed up. It was also my fault that I didn t check the order. For dine in I think the place is very good.

They have the best West Indian Chinese buffet in the West end of Toronto.

Traveled all the way from Hamilton to try this place and would do so EASILY again. My boyfriend and I impulsively decided to drive to Etobicoke on a Tuesday evening, and arrived at 9:20 PM, just shy of their closing time at 10pm. They were closed for dine-in so we decided to do take out. I had done some research and we opted to order the most popular, well loved dishes: Pepper Wings, Special Chow Mein, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Since it was so late and close to closing, I didn t have the greatest expectations as to how the food would turn out, but it was absolutely delicious. The food came out in 15mins and was piping hot and fresh. The pepper wings were well spiced, flavoured and juicy. The special chow mein was delicious and the chicken it was topped with tender and well flavoured. The sweet and sour chicken was not boneless but it was tender and not too heavily battered. The younger staff working were very pleasant. They were kind to give us paper plates and settings as we had to eat in the car. Not sure if they are cash only, as we paid in cash and there was an ATM inside My first time trying Guyanese Chinese food and I will definitely return!

Went there for the first time today and ordered a chicken roti to go. It was the worst roti Ive ever bought. It was so hard and stale like it was yesterdays that was heated in the microwave

It was alright. Food didnt have a lot of flavor but the sauce was on point. No AC. Interesting crowd.

Service is absolutely horrible here. Had to seat our selves, had to get up from our seat and order our food and drinks, waited over 15 mins just to get our drinks, 30 plus mins for our food. Food is good but service is horrible!

On Sunday July 7th my son & girlfriend ordered fried and bbq d chicken from this place for a very special occasion and I can honestly say, this was the worst meal I have ever had! Both were dried out and had no taste!!! Calypso Hut DO BETTER !

The goat curry, daal Puri and fried fish were very good. The chow mein was ok, though the meat tasted freezer burnt. We also had fish choka. This looked and tasted like the fried fish, but broken up into little bits and served with premium crackers.

Ive been here a couple times. The atmosphere in the main room of the restaurant is really nice and clean. When ordered from the menu the portions are large and the food is fresh. Service from staff is alright. Free parking in the plaza. Things I am not happy with and would definitely come into play when deciding if Id ever go back. The drink prices for beer or a cooler is outrageous. $12 for a bottle of beer or a cooler. No beer on tap. No tallcan options. Very little cooler options. The washrooms are a completely different look than the main room. Run down, broken, unclean, and smell like sewage. Last visit was a special event. They advertised $40 all you can eat appetizers and djs for a day party. Paid $40 for a buffet of 5 items. Wontons dried out. White rice basic. Sautéed vegetables were alright. Chicken was ok. And the wings... I got 3. Ive had good, fresh food, big portions there before but that day was not it. Music was good but there was only 8 people in the place so it didnt get live. Overall not worth the $40 plus $12 a drink that day. Not sure if Ill be back.

Just finish having dinner here for the first time and this will definitely be my last time. The food was terrible. We ordered a special chicken fried rice, a vege fried rice, a pepper shrimp and a honey garlic wing. Both fried rice was cold and the vege fried rice hardly had any vegetables in it. The wing was barely warm and the pepper shrimp was more sour than spicy. There was a party of three thats was about to leave when we got there. So basically we were the only customer there. It is unacceptable to serve cold food espically when they are not busy.

I would 100% recommend Calypso Hut for anyone looking to cater their private event or even dine in whenever they are looking for quality food and service, as I have done both! I recently hosted an event for work with my colleagues and was looking for a company to cater our lunch. Calypso Hut was definitely the right choice! This is my go to place when there is a big game or fight. The food is amazing and the vibe is great. I go here with my kids, as a family and sometimes with friends. Love this restaurant. Great for hosting events or birthday parties as well.

Calypso hut has been a staple in the GTA for many many years. Im glad to say even though its been open so long that the food and the service has not slipped. Food is impeccable and the Jerry the actual owner is almost these at all hours and giving legendary customer service. Not many places you go, you have the owner serving you with a smile on there face. The atmosphere...it has flourished over the years. They constantly do face lifts on the place keeping it up to date. The place is very clean and actually smells good. LASTLY THE MUSIC IS ALWAYS GREAT! Check them out closer to the weekends and closer to night time like after 8pm and you will feel like your back home in the Caribbean listinening to great music and eating amazing food! Huge shout out to the owner the staff!

What can I say about Calypso Hut? Let me first say that the customer service here is next level. From the owner Jerry to all his staff, they always treat patrons with respect. They go over and above to make sure everyone enjoys their meals and drinks. The establishment is always clean and with the new renovation, the vibe is on point! Now on to the FOOD! The pepper shrimp is AMAZINGGGGG!!! I find myself craving the shrimp all the time! The rice is flavourful and the wings are always fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Whenever I have family and friends come into town, I always bring them here and the feedback is always the same! I highly recommend Calypso Hut to everyone!

I ve been going to Calypso Hut for years. From the food to the night life, everything is on point. I ordered last week for lunch for myself and others at work who aren t familiar with Guyanese/Chinese cuisine, and they loved it. Some staples are obviously the fried rice, chow mein, pepper shrimp and we ordered the chicken choka which is one of my personal favs. I also gotta give Jerry, the owner his flowers. Amazing person and attentive to all his customers and truly makes you feel welcomed. Your parents would be proud. If you re in Brampton, I highly recommend Hut especially now that they serve a buffet lunch Wednesday to Friday. My only issue is that I live so far and can t get it as often as I d like.

Had my birthday here yesterday. Amazing staff everyone made sure everything was on point for my special day. Especially Jerry and my brother. Always a good time here

I had a catered event here and it was so special. The food was delicious. The staff was on point was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

This place is the biggest disappointment. They over charge you. Make sure you double check your bill. Also when they are making your drinks watch them because they have been known for spiking drinks. Shady place and all the workers don t seem like they care about customer service.

After a long time not eating here I was craving the wings.. the wings are never a miss. But today my goodness why were there feathers on my chicken not 1..2 feathers but a bunch of feathers so unsanitary

Amazing Food, Amazing Staff, Amazing Parties Too

They mixed up the date for our large order and made it for the day before. But I only had to wait 40min for them to fill the order, food was hot delicious and well packed. Plus they let me drink on the house while I waited. 40 minutes went by way to fast....

Food is horrible, nothing was prepared fresh. Chicken wings where trash rice was horrible spring rolls where burnt no flavor.

Didn t like the curry goat this time. It looked and felt like the goat needed some more time to cook, so we ended up just throwing it. I liked the gravy but the meat needed more time to cook. The curry was less flavourful compared to other places in terms of value and price. It s disappointing. Won t be ordering that again. The pepper wings were nice

Sorry but not sorry Jerry. What happened to your cooks? Calypso Hut 1, 2 & 3 had cornered the West Indian fried rice market for decades. But not anymore. I went to your place on Saturday April the 22nd and ordered a half chicken, veggie fried rice and a pepper shrimp. So disappointed. The chicken was burnt dry, the fried rice was black and the pepper shrimp pale to compare to your competitors. Jerry you re a friend and you need to hear the truth about your quality of food, as the reviews are getting worse by the day. Maybe the Nite Life aspect is your gift and not in the kitchen. My Family and Friends will not be returning to your Restaurant, along with everyone writing bad reviews. I wish you success always.

They really uped their game with the renovations , but when me and the fam wanted to play pool ... it was blocked off. I hope they fix it

You support a car show in Brampton with a sound contest. It s literally next to a residential area with young families. The walls shake with noise for +10 hours. This is so irresponsible. We used to visit your restaurant but are taking our business elsewhere.

Ordered the beef lo mein it was doused in store-bought oyster sauce or soy sauce. Not sure what the sauce they used, but it had no taste whatsoever. Just pure salt vegetables over cooked. I couldn t even eat it. It was horrible. it was like diabetes on a plate.

I went on a Saturday night when they had an event and ordered the got wings...it was disgusting and as we ate it it made us feel so sick! You can tell they re-fried the wings and the whole night we all felt nauseous...to surprise us even more was that a plate of wings was $20...I have never paid $20 for a plate of wings and it was so disgusting

The customer service is standard for a West Indian restaurant. The orders are prepared quickly and accurately but no one will smile when they serve you or ask how your day was, but then again if I wanted that service Calypso Hut wouldn t be where I went. Food has remained the same quality throughout the years and the dine in is clean and quiet but I never done in.

Food was not as good as they used to serve.

Showed to eat some food and unfortunately was an event night. Had to pay $20 entrance fee plus ordered wings and it was dry and had no taste. I asked for pepper sauce and ketchup and got a bottle of pepper only with ice in it. Worst of all order a shot of tequila and a can coors light. My bill came $22 and had to question why. I was told the coors light is $12. Went to so many bars and never paid $12 for a beer.

Unbelievable now....this place is going down...how can a West Indian Restaurant NOT have chicken curry....that just blows my mind....I call to inquiry as to food and they person rudely hangs up on me...call back and they dont even cook whats on the menu...Jerry .... you need to remove these people from your place...rude staff!!!!

Unfortunately, smh was very very very ( you get the point ) Disappointed and a bit irritated I used to buy food here at least once or twice a week. Actually me and my co workers. This right up before covid. We all would be placing orders. I haven t ordered food from them in awhile due to changing jobs. Well, Saturday night ( Aug 12 ) I ordered and to my surprise the prices experienced 100% inflation like im talking high high prices for a little box of food. And the taste .. smh .. the food was very bland and just not nice. Even , the red sauce - I literally threw the whole small container over my food plus peppa sauce to enhance the struggle flavour .. even that didn t help. The chicken dry dry dry dry sah, like the Sahara Desert. Not sure what happened?! This is not the good Ol Calypso Hut .. this is something else ! I ll one day venture once more ( thats if its the only place open and i just happen to be in Brampton) and give them another try hopefully I can edit my stars and bring it back up to 4 or 5 like before. Cause this ain t it.

Food is great. Chicken fried rice, chicken wontons, Ching wings and pepper chicken were all good. This is a West Indian establishment and they play Nigerian music. I love all music but to have the West Indian vibe you gotta play West Indian music. Server was ok but I felt like they didn t have experience or proper training on how to server or when to give a bill.

Food had no taste and the glass was dirty. The table had a foul smell. Will never go back here!

Update: I ate there last night (Sunday Aug 27 2023) The food was excellent but the service was horrible. The waitress didnt get my order correct and brought me a drink I didnt ask for and when I mentioned my order was wrong she just laughed. Pay attention to what people ask for as we are bringing money to the establishment that pays you!! Still making good food and clean place to eat after all these years!!! Just went today 07/03/2022 still doing an amazing job and clean! Keep up the great work and service!

The worst customer service I have ever witnessed!!! I made an order and gave specific instructions to Bake the chicken without frying the chicken and asked them to make the rice with less oil as per agreement over the phone, but the food came all drenched in oil and when I called to complain about the issue they had only offered me a $5.00 discount on the next order after I had make $200 with of food orders in the days prior! When I told them that that was unacceptable customer support they hung up the phone on me after many many years of business I ve given them. Do not give people like this the business as they will treat you the same way when it comes down to it. I was very fair when speaking with them and had my kindness in communication undermined. They have lost my businesss PERMANENTLY

Pros: 1 Parking is good, since this is located in a mini strip mall 2. Service is good, food is prepared in a timely manner Cons: 1. Food isnt what it used to be. 2. Fried rice and chow mein has way, Way, too much Cassareep to the point where the rice is so dark and not edible. 3. Chicken is dry 4. Calling in your order can be difficult since dont really want to listen to what you are ordering and have to repeat yourself a couple of times.

The food we ordered took very long to show up at our table. Also had to ask for utensils. The atmosphere was ok except the music was too loud. I couldnt hear anyone speaking to me. Lastly, the wings we ordered was very, very dry - like it was fried multiple times. Ill never go back there. And to think, I actually know the owner. His mom (RIP)and my mother in law are related.

Well, I was there to grab some takeout on Saturday, December 2nd, and they had an event going on. I walked into the restaurant to place an order, and they had a sort of payment booth set up to enter the party. I asked the woman working the booth how I could get through to purchase food to go, and she told me that Id have to pay a $20 cover fee first!!! I restated that I was only there for takeout and not for the party, and she repeated that there was a $20 charge to walk in to pick up food , this is absolutely absurd. So to rectify this situation I went 2 minutes away and ordered food from somewhere else without the cover charge, and I will no longer be eating there again.

The service here was good! Fast and friendly we didnt wait long for our food to be cooked. This is great especially going with kids. We dined in and had the pepper shrimp and chicken fried rice as well as fried wings and chicken with mixed veggies. The food was fresh which was great. However the taste was off. The stir fry sauce used with the mixed veggies was basically soy sauce which was salty! The peper shrimps was fresh but not spicy! still tasted good though. The wings seemed a little over cooked as the meat was a bit hard. Lastly their special chicken fried rice barely had pieces of chicken inside and only came with 3 pieces of chicken on top. Aside from this it too tasted good. The portion sizes were great for dining in. We had to take the rest home! I would recommend this place as it is a long standing establishment in brampton. I ordered a medium tray party size which was good . However the small tray party size chicken wings I ordered was very dry and it was obvious that the wings were made overnight and was not fresh. This was my third experience with the chicken. The chef refused to make me fresh wings so I ended up living thr order behind. I will not recommend their chicken wings.

If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. We used this restaurant to cater my father s funeral reception. The food was old, dry and spoiled. My niece got food poisoning after eating the curry chicken and everyone left so much food on their plate. Calypso hut, you guys need to do better man. What you provided was food that was sitting for days, probably weeks that was reheated more than once and packaged as a catered order.
