10 Main St S, Brampton, ON L6W 2C3, Canada
Intimate eatery with boho-chic decor & a full bar, serving homestyle Eastern European dishes.
Vera we cannot Thank-you enough for the Amazing person you are and the food for our Wedding yesterday! We have family who will be new customers! Despite the construction it's well worth going to Queen Gypsy. Highly recommend!!!
I miss the times when Queen Gypsy was open to the public for dining in. A great atmosphere for a sophiscated single lady wanting an excellent home cooked meal. My mom and I frequent often prior to pandemic. Miss the days of sharing the establishment to the public. Please post when re opened to the public for dine in. I really enjoy the atmosphere, food, and speaking to knowledgeable people.
Tasty local restaurant downtown brampton, make sure you check out the Queen Gypsy Markets that runs year round - amazing pastries (turnovers and cinnamon buns). Can pick up frozen soups and entries to enjoy later as well. Can also order take out, Queen Gypsy has generous portions and the pork schnitzel is awesome. This is a must try.
Hasn't returned to dine in but picked up gypsy stew and special schnitzel. Portions were very generous and both are terrific. The cream cheese stuffed schnitzel was crispy on the outside with a luscious core. Must have been a million calories but each one was so tasty. The stew contained many many tender pork chunks with just enough fat to keep the meat moist in a thick red sauce. Can't decide if the sauce was tomato based but it was rich and nicely seasoned on a bed of rice. Tangy slaw and beets complemented mains. Vera was kind hearted enough to give us turnovers and raisin buns when they ran out of the brioche buns we ordered. Maybe because it was for someone's birthday. Overall a wonderful takeout experience. Hope they open again for inside service.
Nice gem downtown Brampton! We ordered schnitzel, a family serving of goulash, challah bread and cinnamon buns. Everything was delicious. If you have the chance to get the challah bread while they’re hot... it’s like heaven on earth! Will definitely try other things next time, and can’t wait to dine in when things are “normal” again. Vera was such a delight to meet. It goes without saying, but the service (although for pick up) was so genuine and special; a cherry on top.
Super cozy place with wonderful decoration. Friendly staff, fast service and delicious foods. We tried Karadjordjeva Schnitzel and it was one of a kind! Fresh and tasty 😊
A favorite local spot of ours for a drink or bite to eat. It's cozy and the service is consistently quick for a small staff that can get very busy some nights. We're vegetarian and options for a full meal are slightly limited so you have to piece together a couple sides and a salad. But ingredients are fresh and we'll return many times over.
Came on a Friday evening for dinner. Ordered the perogies and the Serbian salad to start. Our main coursers were (1) Goulash (2) Rolled stuffed pork schnitzel and (3) Pork schnitzel. The sides were rice, cabbage salad, beet salad and sauerkraut. The beet salad and beef goulash were too salty. However, the beef in the goulash was very tender. The sauerkraut and cabbage salad were very dry. The rice was bland. Overall, the stuffed pork , Serbian salad and pork schnitzel were our best choices. The cheesecake was very good but the portion was quite modest. Good value - I would come again but hopefully next time the meals will be less salty.
WTH ?! I went to the restaurant and they said - oh , you can t come in , you have to leave the order on a website so we can cook you smth . Emmmm, how about good bye ? If you don t want my money , some one else will take it
Quality with good customer service at reasonable prices.
This is a lesser known gem. Everything here is excellent. This would be in the category of family run and is well worth your attention.
Great chocolate pastries
Everything was over and above.Everyone thoroughly loved the cabbage rolls and the Chelsea buns to die for
Vera is a very personable restauranteur. Very welcoming and pleasant. Her menu is varied and every dish we had was wonderful. Absolute value and truly authentic. Would I go back again? Absolutely, without a seconds hesitation! If you are looking for an authentic Eastern European food experience, you definitely wont be disappointed. Enjoy!
SAYS CLOSED BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO CALL AHEAD TO PLACE YOUR ORDER ITS OPEN BUT ONLY FOR TAKE AWAY We went to this hidden gem and were transported in time to Eastern European hospitality the food was SPECTACULAR comprised of gourmet produce with accents of old world europiean traditions this Restaurant is unique in many aspects a rare find truly a fine dinning experience again TAKE OUT ONLY with a reasonable price best value for your money have to make your way here TRULY A GEM
Food is home made, very authentic and tasty. The owner does a great job .
Love going to Queen Gypsy for ready to go meals. Their lasagna is so delicious every time- such a gem to visit in Brampton! We also love their baked goods and cabbage rolls.Thank you for your amazing hospitality and service.
Absolutely must try their pastries, especially Burek, it was soooo delicious! You can also put an order for family sized dinner trays, you have to try the stuffed peppers. Vera is always very friendly and an amazing chef. Thank you Vera!
This is easily the best place for homecooked meals you will find in downtown Brampton
Main dishes are so delicious. The owner is very versatile and will provide food for private functions. She also participates in the Farmer s market. One of the best restaurants in Downtown Brampton.
Love everything about Queen Gypsy. Food is amazing. Service is great. We had a big lunch order and everyone from my workplace were very happy. Schnitzel was perfect. Veggie option was lasagne and it was fantastic. A nice cheery turnover for dessert.
I am pleased with their service
The food is great here and the owner was super friendly. They do catering as well for big parties. Got their soups and goulash for takeout which were amazing. Everyone enjoyed their food and it pairs well with wine. The frozen soup can be kept for a while when you need it for emergency or some comfort food.
Queen Gypsy has a wonderful menu filled with authentic food. The Schnitzels are the best I have ever tasted , the soups and comforting and tasty, Vera and staff always make you feel like you are at home. I highly recommend!! Parking: Nice and close by ample available & free!
Got take out from there, it was delicious and such good portions. We had the Goulash and Schnitzel and they were excellent. Good quality food and great service
I love going to their Farmers Market stall - the sausage rolls are incredible!
Visited their Farmers Market stall this weekend - sausage rolls were amazing as usual!
Vera knows how to make and bake all sorts but my fav is the lamb dinner she prepares. So tender and good!!
Delicious homemade meals and baked goods! Such a welcoming place with amazing quality and prices. Cannot wait to come back for more!
Fantastic. Authentic food. Made with care and quality ingredients.
The food was fantastic and Vera is such a nice lady.
I cant say enough about how much our family enjoys the food from The Queen Gypsy. We have ordered several times during the pandemic. The schnitzel and Karadjordjeva snitzel (very rich) are excellent and a favourite with my family. Yesterday we picked up Serbian wedding soup, pierogies (which were spectacular), goulash, a huge frozen lamb shepherds pie, cabbage rolls and some turnovers for dessert - all were superb! We had the lamb shepherds pie tonight - best Ive ever eaten, and there is plenty leftover for lunches into the week. We had the Serbian Wedding Soup for lunch and boy did it hit the spot! Part of the whole enjoyable experience is talking to Vera - she is lovely. We have made a plan as a family to make The Gypsy Queen the first restaurant we visit when Covid restrictions are lifted.
Love the food! Would highly recommend.
Her Saturday market is something spectacular!! Great pivot during tough times...but even better quality food!! You gotta get food here!
Omg they have the BEST perogies I have ever had. They are to die for!! Food is amazing like home cooked comfort food. Atmosphere is cosy and great. Vera is very welcoming and makes sure to greet you and see how your enjoying her homecooked dishes. Shes is Serbian and my mother is as well. I brought my mom in for dinner and they grabbed like they had known each other for years! Her dishes remind me of my grandmothers when I was growing up! Always enjoy coming here. If you want a great meal, great service Queen Gypsy is a MUST
Great food as always. Restaurant is a real treasure and Vera is a ray of sunshine. Don & Heidi
This place will not disappoint. Vera has evolved with our current circumstances and the necessary Covid measures for our safety and offering her home cooked meals and scrumptious baked goodies from scratch with her Gypsy love in her Market daily for takeout! Nothing compares to food made with experience and passion! I devoured my meal like I hadn t eaten in days it was so good. And now for dessert... I will enjoy her turnovers and cinnamon rolls. Heaven in Brampton! Support local talent.
Hidden treasure for sure!!! Vera and her staff are amazing!! The food is too die for ... a mouth full of sunshine in every bite no matter what you order!
Every time we go here we are pleased. The food is amazing and the staff are so friendly. The other day we ordered takeout and it was so good. The perogies were the same great quality as when we used to be able to dine in. We also had the stuffed peppers and they were great as well. This is a great place for dinner.
Ordered a few months ago and been wanting to come back again. The food was absolutely amazing - very hearty and delicious. Vera was extremely friendly and accommodating as well. Would love to visit this restaurant once it opens back up.
The lady who runs this place is the nicest! Food was awesome, felt very war, homey and delicious. Love supporting local businesses like this, they deserve it for the quality of service they provide.
Amazing beef goulash and their bread is next level amazing!
I had the Gypsy Strew and it was absolutely delicious. I think every penny was worth it and the price was very reasonable considering how flavourful it was. The hours are only available for dinner because the owner explained they work on catering during the day/lunch period. Again, the food was delicious :D
Great experience from start to finish. Great food, very tasty, good portions and pricing, and very friendly staff. Highly recommend Queen Gypsy!
Ordered the family trays of Schnitzel and perogies. Generous servings of yummy food come with caramelized onions, sauerkraut, sour cream and rolls. Will definitely order again, and looking forward to eating in when things reopen!
Ordered a pork schnitzel at the farmers market last weekend. Sandwiches are usually great, but I watched mine being made in the same gloves that just handled cash and change. Obviously, didnt end up eating mine when I saw it and cut my losses. Please change your gloves after handling cash!
Popped in during Farmers Market on Saturday and picked up some fabulous Lasagna and bread. You can pre-order with them or they do keep the Saturday market offerings throughout the winter too if you prefer to pick items without ordering first. Great service and great food!
Amazing experience! Amazing authentic European food. I ordered the Gypsy Stew, and my friends ordered goulash. It was all absolutely delicious. The decor is super unique and the service was great. It was like eating dinner at Babcia s house. Such a hidden gem.
Super tasty food and beyond friendly staff. My whole family loved it
Went for dinner today at 5:15 and the doors were locked and lights off... Very disappointed...
The Food is Okay. Tight Spot and I Guess They Have that Eastern European Grump Stigma in Attitude Still Amped Up!
Great service during these trying times. I ordered by phone & was given a time that I could pick up. Everything was hot & ready when I picked it up
With Covid 19 we have been trying to get take out from local small businesses. QUEEN & GYPSY is always delicious and take out was great as well. They have a great take out system and give you a time to pickup. Lots of disinfectant being used and very clean. Dont hesitate to order from them. We ordered the day before to ensure a good time for pickup. Stuffed Peppers and Karadjordjeva Schnitzel are our go to items.
I have never been disappointed by this restaurant. Great food, service and atmosphere. A gem in downtown Brampton.
Veras food is amazing! It hit the spot. Growing up with my Hungarian dad as a chef, has turned me into a foodie. I was really craving some European food. I love to give credit when its due, and it is due here 1000%. Not only that, Vera also gave me a fresh out of the oven dessert on the house. I look forward to my next visit! :)
Goulash is fantastic!
Home made by your Eastern European mother. Who also did the shopping, waits the tables, and probably cleans up afterward. High quality ingredients, but not a meal for salt and spice lovers. Best Baklava made with honey, not sugar.
Been trying for awhile to eat here, but when we have gone here it is never open. The hours say they open at 4 but they never are. We tried again the other day, and they are now prementaly closed from the Region of Peel Health Department. Wow.. really glad we did not eat here. I guess everything happens for a reason.
Good Food, Great Service, Warm decor in restaurant. I really like this place in downtown Brampton. Only open for dinner. I enjoyed the schnitzel. It was very good. The owner is wonderful.
Great cozy spot for a date! I heard perogies are quite good, but I am not a big fan of perogies in general. Great service!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meals here. Everything was clearly home made with great care and execution. The perogies were soft and plump with their filling. The schnitzel was crispy on the outside and moist in the center. The cabbage rolls were some of the best Ive had. All of the sauces were fantastic and a perfect compliment to their respective dishes. Lastly, we really enjoyed the sides of beet and cabbage salads, as well as the cornbread. Everything was also reasonably priced.
Vera is amazing and the food is like your mom made it, with restaurant quality. Shes super smart and witty. A+++
Came here to celebrate my birthday with the family. The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere that is unique and warm. Service was exceptional! We all thought our meals were delicious and fresh. You could tell the quality of food was a notch above most sit down places, like a true home cooked meal. Good portion sizes too, and again I ll say delicious! Would highly recommend this place and I will be returning. Oh, don t forget the blueberry cheesecake! It s amazing!
Absolutely amazing food. You can tell it is all made fresh in the restaurant. The music and decorations were also very well done. Friendly service and would definitely go back again!
The food was wonderful. The service was excellent and friendly. The owner was absolutely lovely and took great care of our party of 12. We will definitely visit again!
Best food in Brampton so resembly priced. Vera is the best
Quaint, romantic, warm atmosphere with fabulous food and great service. You can t help but fall in love with this place!
Invited by dear friends. The aromas of different authentic spices greet you, as well as mixed art works from various genres. Tight space but comfortable. Best pillowy and smooth fresh perogies. Cabbage room are great size with a tart bite. Large portion of goulash and stew. Cornbread a bit dry, but soaks up the sauces. Reservations recommend d, always full.
Hole in the wall bar downtown Brampton
Quiant , small and very authentic food.
The food is tasty and the owner is friendly
The atmosphere is crazy unique and they have an fresh variety of food I keep coming back for. Love this place!
Cool atmosphere, great music and delicious food. Well be back.
This quaint little gem hidden away in downtown Brampton, very cozy, who knew??? Six of us went for dinner last Fri night. 3 of us had the house special which was a lamb stew, served with rice, beets and a little salad. Excellent not one complaint. The other special was Talapia with rice, large, well cook, nice & flaky fish, again excellent, everyone enjoyed their dinners and the appetizer were also excellent. Garlic red peppers, humus and pettas, brushetta (with red peppers not tomatoes) Cant wait to go back, only draw back was the table, although a lovely hand made barn board table, it is high and you sit on bar stools this was not comfortable to me or the other guest. I would love to have sat at a real table, and the tables are very close, one of our guests was getting kicked in the back from the child at the next table that was sitting up on her feet at the table. The parents made no attempt to stop the child or ask her to sit properly and quietly on the chair. We did love the ambience.
Awesome food and service!
This is such a neat and cozy little place! I love the decor and vibe. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed everything. I was craving perogies and Vera did not disappoint! I cant wait to go back again. Vera took care of us and is so sweet. We will be back!
Super great tasting food Welcoming environment Had a great time there
A bit pricy with new menu but the food and service are excellent. Great experiences for all 6 visits.
Nice vibe. Customer service is great
Delicious, great value and good service!
DELICIOUS! Their perogies (both main and dessert) are the best Ive ever had. Prices are great. Service was slow, but it was busy and there was only one server.
This is my go-to spot before I see a show at the Rose, or the Brampton Folk Club. The food is always good, and the owner is great to talk to. You can tell she cares about her customers and the food. The food mild, not spicy. Recommended.
My wife and I love coming here. Such a nice little place. Great service and food.
Good food! Quant and cozy interior.
Quaint, cozy restaurant with great food. People who work there are super friendly. Its a go-to place for us now.
Get there early for the freshly made perogies, they run out at night time. Also their baked goods (croissants) are incredible. Very homely place.
Great food
Stopped in before we went to the rose theatre .. So glad we did ...what a find ....... Food was delicious just like walking into a friends Kitchen ..Thanks Tom.... And wow wow wow the hot sauce wow Looking forward to our next visit
Was there last week and its a great little place, service was a little slow but food was amazing. Will be back.
This is an exceptional restaurant, the food is home made the staff is very friendly and the pricing is very economical for the quality. I can t recommend this place strongly enough. We had perogies, the best I have ever had by far. Go to this restaurant you won t be disappointed
My friends I were here last night, it is such a small and cosy place. Has a good atmosphere. The food was exceptionally amazing and the prices are really good. I had the pita & hummus which was super tasty. Our server went above & beyond and he made our experience a good one. We will be coming here again shortly.
The schnitzel was really good, so were the perogies. The service was very relaxed and pleasant. Excellent atmosphere. Prices didnt break the bank either. Mill St. beer on tap! I most certainly will return to try the other menu items.
Amazing place, comfortable, cozy. And best of all the food is great...
The food was great, atmosphere was warm and eclectic. Service was excellwnt. The only down side is it is always busy so you cant just drop by you should make reservations.
We loved it! Such a great hidden gem in downtown Brampton. We had such a great meal and experience there. I d definitely go back! Glad we found it! A must try!
Will be going again well worth the visit
I did what I normally do and make decisions based off reviews. This place was delicious and hand crafted. Everything was fresh and the service was very personable! I had the perogies and gypsy stew, Id highly recommend both! The perogies were so soft and rich, just melting in your mouth. The stew was extremely flavorful and filling. Everything was reasonably priced! I wish I had a place like this in Baltimore.
Pretty authentic eastern European food , pleasant yet sardonic host owner. Goulash was tasty af
Great little spot for home made eastern European foods like stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, and goulash. Menu is small but the prices are very friendly- average about $12 per entree, and most dishes come with side of beets, cole slaw, and corn bread.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and quality of food and the price was super reasonable! Only thing I would say is they need more staff on a Saturday night service was a little slow but there was only one lady serving everyone so we felt bad overall an amazing place will definitely be back and would reccomend to others.
One word GREAT!!
The Food was good, I got the stew and salad. My dad got the cabbage rolls. We enjoyed the atmosphere, Nice people, nice place. All in all 4.5/5
Sometimes you just get lucky.Went to tracks brew pub with some of my guy friends the bartender Tamera or Tammy i think her name was? plus sized brunette, real mean cuss of a women. left a bad taste in our mouth, so we left and stumbled on this place queen gypsy real nice great atmosphere would recommend to others.
As usual, awesome little place
Amazing food amazing prices. Very neat atmosphere
Fabulous evening. Food out standing, perogies are the best I have ever had. Vera is an awesome host. What a hidden gem. Will definitely be back.
Food was good as in yummy but unhealthy tasting. Typical pub food style I guess. Atmosphere was cozy and nice but its a bit slow going. We freaked out about pink pork inside the Schnitzel but the waitress told us that its smoked pork so its safe to eat. Also had a tiny hair mixed in the Schnitzel batter but didnt wanna complain after all that talking about the pink pork.
Small menu but everything on it is great
Genuine experience
Food and atmosphere is great!!!
Amazing food and atmosphere. I would strongly suggest this restaurant to anyone that appreciates home cooking and a warm welcome.
Ive attempted to go there several times after work for the time they say they open online 4:00 ? but theyre never there? the sign on the door either says 5:00 or 6:00 ?
Good food and atmosphere, but oh so much went wrong. We waited quite a while for our food (there was six of us). When we did get it there was only two dishes and one of them was the completely wrong one. Mine was right, but i only took one bite before the server came and took it and said it was for another table. Because the food was disturbed they couldnt serve it to the other table. This table ended up waiting over an hour for food. By the time they got their food we were paying. My group waited around forty five minutes for our food and while it was filling at the time Im already hungry on the car ride home. To end a very weird dinner I learned that there were coins in my water glass, but only I had drank half of it. Im concerned as to how they got there and i can only come up with the fact that they are sloppy. Not interested in going here again.
What a gem in downtown Brampton! Great service and atmosphere. Home cooking and comfort food. Perogies, goulash, schnitzel are top choices.
Good home cooked food, comfort
The stuffed peppers were excellent
Came with high expectations, but the food was not as good as desired. If you want pure eastern European food with no variation and spice, this is your place.
Awesome atmosphere, great service even better food
Good food, awesome service, portions could be better for the price. Fast delivery.
Online it said it opened at 4, at the front door it said open at 4, got there at 430 and it was closed. Called with no answer but could clearly see somebody inside. Disappointing first experience. I heard the food might be good, but so far the service sucks. My daughter and I went somewhere else.
I had a great time here. Its one of a kind. I didnt eat there but the menu seemed great.
I used to like it there...prices went up, service went down. When we arrived, the owner welcomed us by telling us negative stories about people who had been in the restaurant. We then sat down and ordered. The food took quite some time to arrive, despite it being almost empty. The entire time we waited, the owner continued to speak to another patron about other customers. She loudly spoke of how cheap some were, and how they shared meals. As we were choosing to share an appetizer and an entree, she probably added us to the list of people to complain about. Not once did she stop by to explain the delay. The food arrived, but she hadnt brought us cutlery. Unapologetically, she went to get it, but didnt return for at least five minutes after the food had arrived. The food was good, but $18 for 6 pierogies is overpriced. Okay but overpriced food, inattentive service, and bad-mouthing customers made for an unpleasant experience. I will not be returning.
Great European home style food.
Just had lunch here and what a treat! The better half had the Pork Schnitzel and I had the goulash - a perfect balance of rice, meat and sauce. The meat absolutely melts in your mouth and the Pork Schnitzel was lightly breaded and so tender. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely return.
Our go to restaurant in Brampton
Great atmosphere. Food is fantastic.
The peirogis are amazing best ever had but expensive. Love the atmosphere.
So cozy... bohemian...love it. The perogies are Amazing. Service super nice .
Terrific food , terrific service . A wonderful restaurant.,
Great cozy spot in downtown Brampton.
We went there for the perogies. They werent disappointing but the perogies with the cheese sauce on top wasnt the greatest. It was a good attempt but I wished they wouldve stayed a little more traditional and just served the perogies with sour cream. The dessert perogies were AMAZING. Blueberry stuffed perogies with a sugar syrup on top. Definitely coming back for that! Overall good dining experience.
Staff was great
Great food. Great prices, and very friendly staff and atmosphere.
Went here based on some reviews from TripAdvisor. Overall was very happy with the service and food. Its a family owned business and its has all the charm of one. When we came they told us what wasnt available on the menu as they sold out throughout the day. Big thing for me as it shows they make their food daily... not frozen pulled out of a freezer when someone orders it. Had the peroges and pork shnitzal and the serbian salad (i think). All very good. Will go again.
The perogies are good BUT Put MAN food on the menu STEAK.
Great food and super clean. Definitely would recommend it.
Great Peroges and food overall seemed good! Nice guy serving behing the bar. However I was really downed by an older woman, looking like one of the owner, sitting at the bar with an extremely aweful attitude.
Wife and I went here and its a wonderful little place. The staff are very friendly, the menu is rather unique to Bramptons traditional fare, and the food was very good. Pricing is reasonable too. Would definitely recommend to anybody. (Not much for little kids though)
Really great food but beware it is specialty. If you have a picky eater (that does not like eastern european food) you may have issues. Otherwise, if you have people who are in for the fare, go all in here. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is fantastic. As of writing they also sell baked goods at the farmers market every Saturday when its running and theyre quite good.
Great food, with few places that come close to Eastern European offerings like this place. If you like affordable, satisfying food options like schnitzel, purifies and cabbage rolls and a good drinks, this will be your go-to hangout. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service makes one feel at home.
We love it here. Everyone is great and so is the food.
Great place to stop for a drink
Had a delicious dinner before seeing West Side Story at the Rose Theatre just up the street. The schnitzel was tender on the inside with a nice crispy coating. My wife (who is Hungarian) had the goulash and said it was better than she makes! Dinner for two with three glasses of wine and one dessert was about $60. +tip. I say 4.5 out of 5.
Came here to order food fairly late (close to closing time) on Friday and was well accommodated. Nice atmosphere and absolutely delicious pierogies!
Took my parents here to test out the Eastern European authenticity and Queen Gypsy passed with flying colours. The Pork Schnitzel, Karadjordjeva Schnitzel, and the Cabbage are to die for!
Wonderful decor and service! The perogies were great.
This place has the best pierogies.
Was recommended there by a friend of mine, and was really impressed with their traditional Eastern European meals, it was SO GOOD. The decor is really unique and enchanting, and the food is amazing. I had the cabbage rolls and my friend had the schnitzel and they were both amazing. It reminded me of my grandmas cooking from Slovakia. HIGHLY RECOMMEND :)
