In my order, i paid for beef fried rice, everything was labelled beef fried rice, instead, i got mushroom fried rice. I don't even eat mushrooms!. If they didn't have beef then say that, i would have ordered something else. Not a 0 star because for the most part, they have been good. I didn't even bother calling about this because I wasn't willing to walk back.
The only place I would ever order Chinese food from in Brantford. Chicken balls are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the rice is so good you can reheat it next day and still get all one flavors Always get my order right, show up on time or early for delivery One of the best restaurants in brantford
Absolutely phenomenal!! I used to grab simple takeout from here when I lived a few blocks over. I haven't visited in 20 years though, same owners/operators though and they did not disappoint in any way. Chicken fried rice was amazing, and to those who would complain that it tastea burnt, it's called "hot wok cooking" and that slight char is akin to what you enjoy on your steak and ribs and basically anything else you flame grill so, put a sock in it! The chicken wings were decent, though I suspect they'd be better with some medium buffalo sauce on them. The egg rolls were on point and I wish I had room to put a few more back. Beef and Broccoli was damn good and the sauce pairs well with the rice and breaded shrimp, which was also a good fried option, but I'd argue they could go a slight easier on the breading, BUT that's not even a complaint because I like the breading too. Chicken balls were great and were absolutely the same style as literally every other chinese restaurant, so for ALL those people who constantly complain that chicken balls "only have a small piece of chicken and a lot of batterr" well WTF have you EVER had chicken balls that were not exactly like that? 45 years and dozens of chinese restaurants from B.C. to NB and I'll tell you this, THAT'S HOW CHICKEN BALLS ARE MADE!!!! The service was amazing and the owners very personable, polite and helpful in every way. After reading some of the reviews, I chose a table close to their phone and I can say without a doubt that those negative reviewers claiming they're rude and they don't care or they don't offer a apology are nothing more than those people who write negative reviews in hopes that they'll get something for free. I heard several calls where they tried to solve problems, were tremendously polite and in one case even offered to stay open 30 minute's later to accomodate a pickup order (And not a large order either). Overall this place deserves all the accolades they can get and while I understand that they can't keep it going forever, I wish they could.
This restaurant came highly recommended. We found it surprisingly busy for a late midweek afternoon, and the take out orders were flying out the door. Servers were excellent - extremely friendly, attentive and polite. The prices were reasonable. Our particular combo dinners for one were good, but not necessarily exceptional. The dinners we chose included consommé, which was delicious for a plain broth with crunchy noodles. Very flavourful. The egg rolls were good. The sweet and sour chicken balls were what I refer to as “mall balls” as they were similar to those you get at a food court: more batter than chicken. The sauce and rice were good. It’s described as plain rice on the menu but had more flavour than simple steamed white rice. The chicken chow mein was fresh, very good. The soo guy almond tasted like sliced crunchy chicken tenders and had a thin brown sauce plus crushed almonds. Tea or coffee is included with dinners for one (which we declined). It was nice to get ice water served in glassware rather than plastic. We could have shared a combo plate as portions were generous. We were told this restaurant has been operating for 63 years by the original owners, so they are definitely doing something right! Suggest you check it out for yourself as they have an extensive menu and have obviously earned a great reputation based on their popularity. Free parking in attached lot.
Very SOLID old school Chinese Canadian restaurant. Super friendly staff, homemade fresh food, great prices! Bring your friendly attitude to this little gem.
Ordered dinner on a Thursday night. Was told 35-40min. I know they usually run behind so I arrived 45 minutes after I ordered. Only to wait another 25 min. In total we waited over an hour for our food. They said sorry but you would think some compensation would be made to rectify the issue. Food was decent.
I placed an order for spicy garlic chicken stir fry (house special). They told me it would be 35 minutes, it ended up being 40. I was surprised because I can usually call jumbo dragon and an order for 1 person would be ready in 10 minutes or less. After waiting 40 minutes the food was bad. This dish did not taste like garlic or any spices at all. The sauce tasted like some kind of store bought sweet and sour sauce. I took 2 bites and couldn’t even eat it. Pretty disappointing but I’ll give them points for portion size, price and freshness. It’s possible that this just isn’t their best dish
I had a delightful experience with the 5 B platter at this Chinese restaurant. The food was delicious, service top-notch, and the overall dining experience was fantastic. Highly recommended!

Always makes my order wrong and then gives me attitude, im a super nice person, and i work in the service industry so this is absolutely unacceptable. Im so nice and polite, . I guess they are usto junkies and hoes. U can treat them like that but not me.

This was the first time we ordered food from Oriental Restaurant. We have had Chinese food from somewhere else. Oriental Restaurant is by far the best Chinese food we had ever had. We are originally from Simcoe and would order from Simcoe Restaurant, Owned by Hoy Yin, but oriental Restaurant is far better. We will surely be ordering from Oriental Restaurant time and time again.

Second generation of my family to love this place. The food is consistently very good and all staff friendly. Takeout can take a while at busy times but worth the wait. We build the delay into our plans. The family that own it very nice people.

Stopped here for dinner, as recommended by a local at a store wed been at, visiting from Kitchener. Well, cant comment on the food, since after 6 minutes of standing inside the entrance nobody acknowledged our existence, we walked out. There was a female server who did look in our direction twice, but did not so much as hold up a finger as if to say one moment, be right there! There were only 3 tables, about 7 guests total in the dining room, at 530pm on a Friday (March 8, 2024), so they werent busy. As for atmosphere, it seemed to be a clean place, with some interesting decor. Youll have to go yourself to check out the food, as well never waste our time going back. Parking: A goodly number of spots on their corner lot.
The Oriental Restaurant never fails to deliver great food and service in over 60 years!!! The food was so hot and fresh, that why we always go to Oriental Restaurant. Service was great as well.
Not happy, tried to get place an order at 8:30pm tonight! 15mins later got a call saying not gonna happen! They did not want to to cook as they were closed at 9 even though I had a delivery service willing to delivere! Tried calling back and no answer!!!!
Order soo guy for delivery...they forgot to put gravey so i got fried chicken...then they lied and said they put it....after an 80 min wait for Luke warm food they offered to send a gravy ...terrible service tonight wont be ordering from there again
Ordered almond soo guy and Cantonese chow mein for delivery. Almond soo guy was overcooked to the point that it was very crunchy and the chicken was tough and dry. Barely any gravy and wheres the slivered almonds? The chow mein was OK. Overall very disappointed.

Put the order in a day early for 6pm. Didn t get it til 7pm. Others who put in an order for after my time got it before me. Noodles were mostly raw, almond soo guy was awful.

I like the quality of the food, though sometimes the vegetables are overcooked for my taste. Something happened tonight, that made me actually lose my appetite. My order was $15.25, and BEFORE the till even opened, the waitress asked me if I wanted my change from a $20. ! She expected a $4.75 tip for takeout? Ive waitressed all my life, I dont know why I actually gave her a toony ! Im so mad !
The food has gone down holl over the years. Different chefs who cant cook like the old guys.

Almond Soo Guy is fantastic. Awesome food, great taste, friendly staff. Owners are very nice. Fried rice and other stir fry are also great. We have never been disappointed. This is our favourite Chinese food restaurant bar none.

Ordered in tonight. One of the best delivery/Chinese meals the family has had in awhile. Very tasteful and portions were great. Definitely ordering again! Food arrived sooner than promised. Was told an hour and a half arrived in 45 minutes.
The food was generally OK, with decent portions and reasonable prices, but noting that jumps out at you except maybe the broccoli and beef dish. The cherry sauce is definitely below par. This is a good place for the price conscious.

I used to think their food was pretty good. I placed an order for pickup tonight that was a waste of $37.00! My order was 15 minutes late being ready, The egg rolls were very soggy, the rice was tasteless and the almond sue guy had NO grave on it and it was rock hsrd and broke one of my front teeth!! I will not ever go back again!

Food is delicious but ordering takeout 1-1/2 hours early for pick up at a specific time apparently serves no purpose. Order came out 20 minutes late. They had a panic look on the face when I arrived on time like they forgot to make the food.

Food is a 5 unless you order delivery...Then it s a wildcard.... Have had wait times if 45mins to 4 hrs...no explanation.... Updated 5 years later - Sept 2023 Delivery issues seem to be improving And the price during inflation has remained reasonable..The free delivery on minimum orders is a big reason we order so often!!

Delicious food. Our first visit. Food was hot and delicious. Crispy spring rolls. General chicken and Cantonese chow mein were very tasty. Nice size portions. We will definitely visit again.
I gave the atmosphere a three cause for one you can smell the carpet smells and the outdate decor with all its cobwebs and dust fluff but overall the food is delicious

after sitting there for 45mins waitng for my order the owner comes out and says you pay first then i make order so i pay . after 5 more mins i still dont have a plate or utensils but i do have a glass of water! meanwhile i have watched 10 orders go out the door people that arrived later then me get their orders . i would suggest find another place for a sit down meal

We decided to try the Oriental restaurant on new years eve we were not disappointed the food was great friendly staff also no complaints from this family.
Ordered today at 3:45pm, was told order would be ready at 5:15pm. Arrived to pick up and it was not ready. Waited 30 minutes then left without food. If you dont gave the staff yo get an order ready in less than two hours dont take so many orders!!!! Ordered from jumbo dragon and had food in 20 minutes

A restaurant (and neighborhood) whos best days are clearly behind it. Staff is friendly but dining in isnt even an option these days (you wouldnt want to). Their take out is passable Chinese fare when they actually get your order right without what seems to be frequent mixups or omissions. Hard to believe in this era there is a Chinese restaurant that wont throw in a couple free fortune cookies with your order but Oriental is that place. Definitely AVOID the honey garlic spare ribs which arrive in some kind of offensively over-sauced soup. Definitely TRY the won ton soup which almost no other places get right these days. Orientals won ton soup is traditional style and delicious!

Ive been going here for 20 years, not as often as I could have but when I do the experience is perfectly the same, no decline in quality just.. exactly like I remember.... maybe I should order something other than the Singapore noodles (and honestly you need to try them, spicy? not super dry but crispy and like it could have been an excellent soup but never made it into a pot of stock)... a place worth coming home to

The most consist great tasting Chinese food in Brantford. Takes a while to get it but it is worth it- We always have leftover that heat up great. Not one piece of rice goes to waste. Good service too.
Ordered a dinner combo and a few additional dishes for take out. Didnt have to wait long past the given pick-up time to get our food. Everything was hot and fresh. Most items were seasoned well, and were flavourful.

Waited 2 1/2 hours for a pick up order! I understand that they are busy and probably working with reduced staffing, but we were told an hour and a half and having to wait an entire hour for the order to be ready is disappointing.
The Oriental never disappoints. Our go to place for Chinese food, been around for decades. Great locally owned family business, staff always awesome and friendly. Love dining in or taking out, its all GOOD! BTW LOVE the new website!
Have always loved the food here. Now, food is overcooked and cold because you have to wait 3hrs for your food to arrive!! It was bad enough when I would have to wait an hour, but 3 hours is ridiculous!!
The restaurant is a experience in itself. As you can see by pictures, just beautiful!! But the food is unique not cookie cutter like most Chinese food! I miss their food! All the people who work there are hard working and kind!

I just tried them and its the worst chinese food Ive ever had! Id rate the egg roll (my favourite) but they didnt even put it in the bag for me to try. This was my first time and will definitely be my last.

Loved being able to dine in again! Our favourite wonton soup, loads of wontons, pork slices & flavour. My Moo Koo Har Kew had a generous serving of shrimp at a most reasonable price. Were never disappointed.
This was my first time at Oriental Restaurant, recommended by my uncle (hes been going there for many years). Had lunch there with him today. I ordered off the lunch menu, found the prices & portions good, & the food was delicious! Our waitress was really nice too. It was worth my 40 minute drive. I hope to go back again!

This place has some of the best Wonton Soup Ive had! The broth is dark and spectacular! The meat and dumplings are both soft but crisp as well. Been here several times and always have to get the Wonton soup!
I could live off of the wonton soup and it wouldn t bug me.
Order my dinner @ 4:30. Never received it until 7:45. When I called them to find out where my dinner was they told me it was on its way. Still 15minutes later we got it. Im only 10 minutes away. This is the second time Ive been told one time and not receive it for over an hour. Dont recommend this place any more.

Best almond soo guy on the planet
I ordered sweet and sour pork take-out 4 days ago. The portion was big, pork was fresh, and it was served hot in about 6 minutes. The entire dish was lean meat. I think the pork would taste better if a bit of fat was left on the meat. This item is excellent for the price.

Wife and I we re in Brantford visiting one day, contemplating moving there. We looked up Chinese Food restaurants in Brantford and chose this one, on the positive reviews. We weren t disappointed, we ate in during this COVID-19 crisis. The restaurant followed all Government protocol and the service was excellent. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating, we only ordered a small sample of their huge selection on the menu. The fried rice was excellent with the egg rolls, the Won Ton soup was very good too. Overall the place had a friendly atmosphere and food was excellent. We will definitely be returning to this establishment!

Ordered for take out and they said would take an hour. Got there for order and had to wait another 45 minutes for my order. Thats not acceptable in this day and age of restaurants. Lots of others there waiting the same and some longer. Will not be back.

We have been going to the Oriental my entire life (44 years). Things have changed. Staff was not friendly at all. Portions have decreased. When I went home to Brantford after being away for two years I was excited to have dinner here again. Very disappointed. The previous year my mom brought me dinner from the Oriental all the way to PEI and that tasted fresher after two days travel then the rice I had when we ate in the restaurant. The server was rude to my dad who has been a regular customer since the 1960s. She been rude several times in the past as well. Hopefully things will be good again when I visit next month.
