Gran Sasso Restaurant in Brantford

Dinner was tasty, and the service was excellent. However, for an Italian restaurant, it would be a nice touch to provide some complimentary bread while waiting for the food. Additionally, the portion sizes in relation to the prices could use some adjustment. For example, $15 for three meatballs or the small serving of Caesar salad felt overpriced. These factors would make me reconsider dining here again. Lastly, a 20% gratuity added for a group of 6 adults and 2 children felt excessive, especially given the local setting in Brantford.

Great family restaurant that takes pride in its food and reputation. Great place to pop in for lunch but the real treat in supper. Small seating area but it works. The food is authentic Italian and made from scratch. Word has gotten out so call ahead to reserve a table. Just hosted a get-together for about 20 people excellent food and service. Never disappoints.

Going out for date night. You cannot go wrong at Gran Sasso. Quiet intimate atmosphere. Delightful food. Discreet staff. All of which always combine to make a wonderful night out..

I reserved a table for 2. I was told at the time there is an 1.5 hr seating limit, which I was aware of as Ive dined here before and it was amazing! And understandable in such a small establishment. We arrived 10 minutes late, which I apologized for and we still had 1hr and 20 minutes of table time. Our greeter/owner, was hesitant and rude about seating us. stressing how the table she seated us at was reserved Making us feel we were not welcome and an inconvenience. Our server (I wish I had asked her name) was incredibly cold, dismissive and rude. I even asked her if she was having a bad day. We were immediately turned off, feeling like we were a bother. We ordered a drink and shared 2 appetizers and asked for the bill. Literally in and out in 30-40 minutes. It was not the dinner out we had expected. Very disappointed!!

Omg. Fantastic!! Have wanted to try this place for a long time. So frustrated with other restaurants who advertise as Italian and are not. This was the real deal. So so fresh. Lovely flavours ! Cant say enough about how great it was. We got the Arancini , gnocchi, spaghetti and meatballs , ragu and fettuccini. Highly recommend !

Best Italian around!

After passing by this restaurant for a long time, we decided to try it for our wedding anniversary. My only regret is not trying it sooner. The owner came over to chat with us briefly, the waitress was attentive. The food was excellent and authentic. We will definitely will be back and recommend it as a nice place to dine.

Italy in Canada. Great food and exquisite service.

At the beginning of the night things started out pretty great. Our server was lovely, however the owner and the other waitress were downright rude. I was rubbing my ankle and the one waitress was openly making fun of me to other staff. When I made it clear that I could see what she was doing she proceeded to hide behind the counter (very childish). The owner made a point of introducing herself to the other tables and checking in but our table was openly ignored. (My money isn t good enough I guess). We were well aware of the time limits set by them but I felt literally rushed out they were trying to clear the table while mother was still eating. They are lucky my family member paid the bill because I wouldn t have left a tip I would rather spend a little extra money and gas and go to La Cantinella for the better customer service and atmosphere. Definetly would NOT recommend them.

We drove from Hamilton to try this restaurant after reading online about this family run Italian Ristorante. We posed some challenges as we are all vegetarians but Patty and her staff accommodated our dietary restraints superbly. Pastas and salads were made with fresh ingredients. Service was attentive and excellent. We were completely satisfied and will return again. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I got the ravioli to go. It was delicious, but the problem was it was 28$ with tax and got 5 pieces.

Lovely little spot for Italian! We enjoyed the Gran Sasso pizza and Teramo Pasta. Even sipped on some Limoncello at the end.

Nice little place, staff were very nice and accommodating. Had the stuffed mushrooms and bruschetta to start. Then carbonara and grand sasso penne. Flavours were excellent, quality was very good. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating was that the portion sizes were small but the prices were a bit high for the portion sizes. .

Gran Sasso is one of the finest restaurants that I have ever been to, Patty and Olivia were fantastic and the food was excellent, I will recommend this restaurant to everyone

Dinner, sangrias and dessert were delicious and my mother inlaw who is Gluten Free due to an allergy was very happy to be able to eat here as they serve gluten free penne, pizza dough and gnocchi. The patio has a very nice atmosphere and is not within a busy parking lot which made it very enjoyable and service was great, we will definitely be coming back!

Im celiac and dairy free (they have gluten free penne noodles) they made me a roast chicken breast with pesto sauce, grilled veggies and a baked potatoes...It was delicious. Dietary restrictions: Willing to work with you to give you a delicious meal.

Food was fantastic. Quaint little restaurant on the edge of Brantford. Appetizer was awesome but would like to see 4 pieces for sharing instead of three pieces. See pic of appetizer. My wife had a club sofa. $3.25 seems steep to me. Pizza was awesome and my wife loved her shrimp pasta. Overall great experience

While staying away for a hockey tournament, we were looking for a nice place to have dinner. Gran Sasso came highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. From the friendly staff, to the food, it was a great night. It is a family owned restaurant, and everyone was so nice. The food was delicious, especially the Pizzas. Anyone looking for a great meal in the Brantford area, please check out Gran Sasso!

Did our first take out from this restaurant. Well, after having take out from numerous places throughout the city during Covid this was the best tasting and best prepared food we have had yet.

They are discriminating people on the lowest level possible asking for something what is forbidden by Nunermerg court and as a matter a fact they over stepped their boundaries trying to divide humanity and separate us from each other . They are the ones who will make this world worse and they are setting a bad example in it . I hope that their business will go down asap ! Horrible

Ordered 2 pizzas. Showed up as directed. Walked in and was abruptly asked to leave and wait outside. The pizza, well. There s no such thing as bad pizza. However, I won t return. Should ve ordered from Pizza Roma.

This restaurant is a jewel in Brantford. We travelled from Toronto for leisure and coincidentally found this amazing ristorante. Their pizza concetta and pasta teramo is a must eat. Their concetta is the best, if not the best, pizza Ive ever tried.

Pasta was excellent, portions were good, and the staff was really nice.

Omigosh! Everything was so good!! I had the tomasso pizza, the crust was amazing, toppings so fresh and yummy. I had the lemon gelato for dessert it comes in a waffle bowl with fresh lemon zest. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Wow! The atmosphere, service and incredible food here was far beyond our expectations. Made a list minute reservation at the dinner hour on a Friday and the person on the phone was pleasant and accommodating. We showed up and were seated immediately. The waitress and staff had great knowledge of the wine selection and were able to find one that paired perfectly with our dinner choices. Started with the bruschetta. Crispy and soft with a fresh tomato flavor. The food came out hot and honestly better than described. I could not get over the tenderness and cook on the steak. (It was second to only 1 other weve had, genuine wagyu beef at Bluebloods). The potato wedges were crispy but with fluffy inside and the vegetables were the epitome of al dente , something often missed. Hubbys Gran Sasso Pizza had the perfect thin crust and rustic flavor. Loaded with tons of toppings. The tiramisu and cheesecake were the perfect addition to this wonderful meal served along with a cappuccino. Portion sizes for the app and steak looked smaller than we were used to, but we couldnt finish our plates. Throughout the meal the waited and owner both came by to check on the meal and wine. When the bill came, it was smaller than one would expect at any steakhouse or fine Italian eatery. The price was certainly not indicative of the quality of the food or service here. We will definitely be back!!

Best Italian food weve had. Yes it costs more than the chain restaurants. You wont be sorry. Pizza was as good if not better than what we had when we visited Rome. Atmosphere was outstanding and owners were happy to have you there and really wanted you to have great time. Hint get the coffee with ice cream and cookie bits for dessert. TRUST ME!

Very attentive servers and phenomenal food

We love the pizza! The crust is amazing! Meatballs are awesome too! When we want fancy pizza for takeout this is our go too! The staff are always friendly.

If you are looking for well made food go here! Everything is authentic and SO fresh, you can tell everything is homemade (no frozen and reheat dishes here) The pizza is SO good!! My favourite is the Termao Pasta (definitely a must if you love mushrooms) Love the space. Its just a great little place to have a dinner with family.

What a gem!! I m embarrassed to say we live so close and somehow never discovered this wonderful place until now. The food is exceptional, the decor and atmosphere feels like en escape as soon as you walk in the door and the service is warm and friendly. It s perfectly tiny and quaint like a family owned European eatery would be in Europe. So happy we found you.

Best Pasta dish I have ever eaten!

A wonderful pizza....one of the best I have had!! Caesar salad was usual but good.A small place & a bit congested but still a great atmosphere! Appreciated the owner checking that we were enjoying our dinner! Prices are a bit high for what I ate. Found it unusual that a bread basket was not part of an Italian meal. I understand why though, having read the answer to another comment. I would suggest telling people that the bread is not part of their meal, or perhaps putting it on the menu.

As someone who has worked in fine dining for almost my entire working life I have been thoroughly impressed by every visit to the restaurant. Upon entry I am warmly greeted by Patty one of the owners. The service is excellent. Most recently our server did a great job of telling us the various specials of the day, recommending a wine when asked, and checking on us periodically through the meal to provide water and clear dishes as necessary. She was friendly and efficient. The physical dining room is spotless, thematically decorated to reflect Italian culture and of course the mountain range from which it gets its name, and while the room filled up with people, it never felt cramped. Everything is very reasonably priced (comparable to the pricing of a local Kelsey s but with 10X the quality) and the food is truly excellent. The wine list was smart, a well-matched pairing could be found for all dishes, and liqueurs/spirit options were of course very Italian in nature, as they should be. The plates are presented with a modern style which is mirrored in the food itself, but mixed with roots in old fashioned authentic Italian cooking. It generates an excellent balance between contemporary and old-fashioned class. At no point in the dining experience did we want for anything that was not promptly on its way and at the end of our meal after dessert we were not at any point rushed on our way. We felt through the whole experience that our table was being taken care of and our presence valued. I highly recommend Gran Sasso Ristorante to anyone who values outstanding food and a fine, yet unpretentious dining experience.

1st time there last night with my daughter. Wonderful family run business. Great hospitality, homey atmosphere, wonderful food. A place I would certainly return too.

I just discovered this restaurant tonight! I went to dinner with a friend who highly recommended this place. The service was great. Very friendly. And the food was amazing! The pasta was so fresh and full of flavour! I can not wait to return! I will be telling everyone I know to try this place out!

Went there for the first time tonight and it was fantastic. Fresh food, great service and a perfect spot for dinner. Would highly recommend thth place to anyone looking for real authentic Italian cuisine. I will be going back and will refer many more people to check out this gem as well!

Tonight may 11th 2019 we went to celebrate a good friends birthday and I brought in a birthday cake that I would do normally at any other restraunt. I was told by the owner that I could not serve the cake unless I paid a serving fee of 4.50 a person.. so disappointed I could not celebrate my friends birthday with cake.. S o I order my dinner chicken ceasar salad bruschetta bread and a glass of wine.. $48.00 this price for what I got was ridiculous for very salty food.. on the plus side the waitress was very friendly.. will not return very disappointed

Astonishingly delicious! A deceptively, quiet looking place that is really a gastronomic delight. Lamb chops may be best Ive ever had anywhere in the world, panko-breaded chicken breast was perfect and pork medallions, divine. Salads were ...:( Caesar had odd taste & overdressed & Garden, drowning in oil but Ill be back for more mains. Super-pleasant staff with real small-town friendliness.

Firstly, the atmosphere is surprisingly inviting and the decor is lovely. The food was authentic and delicious, the service was impeccable and timely, and their house wine, though a bit pricey by the bottle, was smooth and well balanced. Overall, our party of five was very satisfied with our dining experience and will certainly be returning when we venture out for Italian again! Special mention to the Arancini (rice balls) I will return for this app alone many, many times and although I havent tried it myself, I have been told the pizza is incredible as well.

Had dinner here for the first time last weekend and will definitely be back! We were looking for something different from the mainstream chain restaurants, and this is it! It has a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, good pricing, great portion sizes, and a menu to suit all tastes. It has a European feel to it. I loved that there are no tv screens!!! Its so nice to see people interacting with their dining companions instead of being fixated on a tv while dining out. Definitely recommend reservations as it is a small venue and fills up fast. Looking forward to our next date night here!

My lady and myself were in town looking for an Italian restaurant as we both enjoy italian food and I being italian I dont mind enjoying an Italian meal as long as the value is there. Now once being seated we really had nowhere else to go and we were hungry. Are bill was $100. with out drinks taxes and tip included. We both had the spaghetti and side of 3 small meatballs each at $27. each! Imagine a plate of spaghetti for $27. not enough to satisfy yourself and 1 appetizer of 3 small rice balls at $10 and 1 small ceaser salad at $10 with one little crostini. The ingredients above can be purchased for about $10-15. We have been to a lot of italian restaurants and we have never left hungry, the value was there at appropriate pricing.

Delicious thin crust pizzas! Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff, great choice of wines and ice cold Italian beer. Prices are a bit high, and they dont have a high chair for children.
