The Whistling Duck in Brighton

I tried to find out if they have gift certificates, left a message on their website where it says contact us, left a message on Facebook, nothing, waited 5 days finally phoned, you have to go to Brighton to get them, hello its almost 2025, so I went on line to a fantastic restaurant in Cobourg, I ve got presents to buy and money to burn, got 2 certificates $100 each within 5 minutes, apparently the whistling duck needs to get with the times

Came for lunch and had the Seafood chowder and liver and onions and the food was delicious and hot. Service was great as well and loved looking out on the water.

We reserved a table for a birthday party, we tried calling the restaurant 6 times to find out if we could bring in a birthday cake, no one would answer the phone. So upon arrival we were told its against the law to allow outside food on the premises. Much to our surprise because their competitors said it was fine and not a problem. That aside the service was par at best, the food was good but not spectacular. And much to our surprise the waiter informed us of a 20% auto gratuity for tables over 8 people. Its actually written 18% on the menu. Nonetheless it was a monumental birthday event that left everyone disappointed. Will not be returning to this establishment

Have been there twice recently. Food is OK. Nothing extraordinary. Service was very good. However on both occasions we fought flies. First visit we accepted that patio was busy and so every time the door opened we got a fly. Second visit it was cool, no one on patio and we fought flies thru our entire lunch. We asked for a fly swatter and kept it for our entire meal. It was not a good experience.

We stopped in here for lunch while out and about, we seen a picture that a friend had posted and it looked nice, we started with the soup, a creamy carrot and curry flavored soup that was delicious, then we has a cranberry/feta salad that was also delicious, I had chicken wings, done crispy, just how I like and my friend had the quesadilla, all of the food was excellent flavored and beautifully prepared, our waitress was a lovely young lady called Sara who was very attentive to our needs, atmosphere was great with a beautiful view of the bay and lighthouse, many swans, etc. I have to add an edit to this review. A very good friend went there after reading my review, she had her support dog with her, the waitress would not allow the support dog on the patio, even though the support dog had all of the relevant paperwork, she was still not allowed. This dog is a miniature breed, very well trained and behaved, and is very important to my friend who has suffered a huge trauma, so, sorry Whistling Duck, you lose on your total lack of empathy, you dont know peoples stories, and what it takes to get them through their day. Shame on you, I will never be back !!

Great experience. Fantastic patio. Worth an hour drive. The food above average. Great way to start a trip in the county. A paradise for boaters. Very impressed by the respectable And attentive staff. Can t wait to go back.

Ordered the fish sandwich, but they ran out of coleslaw and didnt say so it was just a piece of fish on a bun. Almost no sauce, 3 picked onions. The salad had no sesame seeds. We waited 40 minutes for it. French fries seemed from frozen. Waiter never showed up during the wait to refresh our water. People living here should demand better. This was sad.

Surprised with the quality of the food and the decent prices. The place is a gem and the view is amazing, drove from the Toronto and it was worth the drive.

Would give less stars if I could! Went last Tuesday and our waitress abandoned us and no one took care of us for a long time until the kind waitress who cleared our plates took pity and helped us! My daughter was so thirsty as she waited to flag someone down. Do not recommend going.

Our waitress was great. She even brought my Dad a piece of cake for his 96th birthday lunch. Definitely will go back.

My mom, sister, and I were so excited to kick off our girls road trip to Prince Edward County with a much-needed pit stop in Brighton at what we thought was a charming waterfront restaurant. The service started off friendly and attentive, but things took a strange turn when another staff member came in and took our waitress off the floor, never to be seen again. From that point on, the wait became incredibly long. We began to worry that something had happened behind the scenes and expected other servers to step in, especially since the restaurant was only a third full. However, no one came to assist us. We waited for what felt like an eternity, and eventually, my mom and I went to the washroom out of sheer frustration. Even then, my sister struggled to flag someone down for help. There was no apology or explanation for the delay. What an awful introduction to our girls trip.

We were so excited to try this restaurant as we just moved to Brighton area... Upon arriving with our baby in a stroller we seemed expected to walk inside to talk to someone to be seated when we wanted to sit on the patio. We were more than disappointed with the food as it wasnt anything special that didnt seem to match up to their high end prices. Wings were so small and not as advertised best wings in town. No extra napkins were provided either. Fries were delivered cold. Service wasnt good at all, we werent offered any specials like the table next to us was. Barely got checked up on. Upon receiving our food I had asked for another drink, which never came until I had asked for the bill. Location is great, beautiful setting, this place could have alot of potential, but its just mediocre. The music was like 1950s diner music. Just not a vibe for a beautiful outdoor patio. We wouldnt return.

The food was mediocre to say the least. This was our first time there. View was beautiful. We had a reservation took almost an hour to order our food then the wait for it to be served. Did not get to order our drinks until we had been sitting there for about 20 mins. The restaurant was not even that busy. Our server was very nice but we were there over 2 hours. Will not return. Our friends were talking about going, however told them our experience they took it off their list of places to go.

Our food was pretty good, the water views were lovely but the service was terrible and... it wasnt very busy! We waited ages for our order,no one ever came by to ask if we were enjoying dinner, we asked a bus boy for our cheque, ( he was great!), waited ages again for the cheque and the waitress just dropped off the machine and the cheque. We cashed ourselves out!!No one came back to pick up the debit machine and say Thank you. Probably wont go back.

Not a great experience unfortunately. Waitress P not around much. Wings and cauliflower bites undercooked. Beer was cold Atmosphere is lacking. Yes view of bay but no music. No flowers. Can hear everything at each table. Everything is 20$ or more.. I think too expensive for Brighton for value.

Yesterday order Buffalo Chicken Salad. My wife & I had this before and crispy chicken strips laid over a big salad. $20 We have photos of it before but this time we both got chopped chicken squares pile at the side of the bowl. I didnt find it crispy and it wasnt nearly as much chicken this way. Totally different dish. I youll it that. We ask at the bigging of the season as its outdoor venue is superb. Since the last time in 2023 they server it as a popcorn chicken in the salad totally unacceptable and she didnt want it like that. As above the waitress said chickens strips !!! No more it no longer the same. My goto was Chicken Parm item but I switched. I hate it when a dish is totally changed and portions also. Both parts were reduced. Later that evening she develop as very upset stomach and it extremely likely it wash the chicken she ate. Its a nice view and outdoor dining but food is inconsistent within reason over the years. Do it right or dont offer it.

Met my long term friend and our husbands for lunch at the restaurant. We ordered our drinks first and my friend said she wanted the Reuben sandwich and the server told her she would let her know if they had anymore brisket left because the restaurant was running out of brisket. When the server brought our drinks, we asked if they had anymore brisket and clearly you could see she forgot to find that out by the look on her face, so instead of saying she forgot to find out, she immediately said NO they didn t have anymore brisket left. My friend then ordered fish n chips. The other 3 of us at the table got our food and the sever forgot to put in the fish n chip order. We waited for her order, which came quite a bit after the 3 other meals came. I found the food to be just mediocre. . The kicker to this rating is, the people sitting beside us had ordered the Reuben sandwich after my friend got her meal and they got the sandwich (to verify that they did, we asked them) It was our first visit to the restaurant and it was extremely disappointing.

A beautiful place to enjoy the patio! Wine options are very limited unfortunately for those who like wine when dinning out. Prices are a bit high for what you get. The crab cakes are really good!

Nice place, nice view, food was good, prices fairly typical. We came from out of town on advice from others and was a worthwhile little trip all in all.

Upon arrival, we were asked to choose our table outside, and we did so with the owner s (Kelli) approval. We ordered our food and drinks, but after more than 20 minutes, our drinks had still not arrived, and the table was still very dirty despite being told it would be taken care of. We could see our drinks sitting at the bar, so we approached to ask (nicely) about the delay. To our surprise, Kelli abruptly intervened and, without any explanation for the delay, suggested we leave the restaurant, saying, You can just leave from here, I ll be glad to wipe off the table. We were not upset until this moment; Kelli s rudeness and unprofessional behavior were shocking. The waiter had been kind, and it seemed like an honest mistake, but Kelli s response was completely unacceptable. Kelli, your attitude and treatment of customers are appalling & disgusting. I am very happy to take my business elsewhere, like Harbourview Marina, where I received great food and service. You can all see my review and food pictures there !

I hear the place is great but we waited 10 minutes at our table upon being seated and had to leave as it did not seem they had a waitress working in the section.

My sisters pre-60th birthday celebration!! The Whistling Duck didnt disappoint, great food, atmosphere and Kirstin our server was amazing !! She was attentive, suggested items off the menu due to diet restrictions and possessed an overall interest in making our visit memorable, incredible server ! Will be back!! Thank you!

Very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The location and view of the water are extraordinary, but thats it. The food is tasteless, even bad. Our burgers were as cooked as a shoe sole. Above all, the attitude of a waitress (Nina it seems to me?) towards us on 3 occasions was unprofessional and totally discourteous. The first time she reproached me for having taken the outside path passing behind the restaurant, in a harsh and surgical manner. I would like to point out that it is nowhere indicated that we should not take this path. Then when I told her that I was just going to pick up my husband to help him with our babies, and she replied stupidly that she didnt take care of us and that it wasnt wasnt his problem. Especially, when I picked up one of my babies to entertain her and took her down a concrete path towards a picnic table and she literally barked at us in front of many stunned customers so that we were not going into this private property... even though there is no indication that we are leaving the restaurant property and the path in question is 1 meter from our table. His face and tone were firm, stern and authoritative. I felt attacked by this waitress, in front of my children and my husband, as well as several customers who were eating with their families. Finally and to conclude this more than unpleasant experience, when a seagull came and stole a piece of dough that had fallen on the ground next to my 11 month old daughters baby chair. She arrived angrily to tell us to stop feeding the seagulls. Even though we had done nothing!! The dough had fallen out of my babys hand without any of us intending to feed anyone. This waitress gave us a very bad time, and deserves to be seriously briefed on managing her emotions and customer service. If my children had not been there, I would have demanded to speak to the restaurant manager/manager so as not to let this type of behavior go unpunished.

This restaurant was recommended by a newfriend and it did not disappoint. Not only is it perfectly situated, overlooking the water, the food and service were excellent as well ( and very reasonable prices). I enjoyed it so much I returned the next day.

I took my two friends to Presqu ile beach. Someone told us to check out this restaurant. Sadly, we had a terrible experience! The restaurant was 60% full when we arrived on Sunday. The owner Kelli was discriminated against me and my two other friends who are black/Asian. The waitress took our order but we waited over 30 minutes and the food still was not served, the table was not cleaned, while the people after us already received their drinks. I went to talk to the owner Kelli, she gave me a look like I did something wrong. We expressed our concerns over the late delivery of our food and still no drinks served. Kelli asked me if I ordered fast food or regular food? My friends were very upset about her question because clearly this is not a fast food restaurant. Then Kelli told us she would be quite happy for all of us to leave if we can t wait. We were tired and thirsty, so we decided to stay. Finally our food came, I only found out the salads were all brown and wilted. The cost to upgrade to a Caesar salad is brutal. Unfortunately Kelli ( the owner) clearly has no concept of running a restaurant or dealing with minority groups or people. Definitely will not ever return or recommend. Not one good thing to say about the restaurant or the management of this nasty establishment!!!

From the moment we were greeted the staff was excellent. The facilities were very clean. Our server, Sarah, was courteous, informative, and prompt. They had a signature cocktail made with real fruit that was very refreshing. The handmade burger patties were delicious, as well as the homemade peach pie! Definitely stop by if youre in the area.

A group of 8 of us met up for lunch on the patio on Aug 16th. It was a fabulous day to sit outside. We had the best server (Sam) that anyone could ask for. He highly recommended the drink of the day - lemonade, fresh raspberries and vodka. It was delicious and we hope he won the challenge with his co-workers. Our meals were excellent and everyone was very happy with the serving sizes. So much so that dessert was out of the question. Highly recommend but be sure to make reservations if you want to sit on the patio. We will be back soon. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free available for 1 of our diners.He was happy with the gluten free bun for his lobster wrap. Parking: Should likely have more than handicapped spots. We used one for our wheelchair traveller. The 2nd one was taken immediately and we than seen at 3 other vehicles seeking handicapped parking. Could have been that more seniors out for lunch though. Wheelchair accessibility: Perfect for our 1 diner. We were able to get the spot closest to sidewalk and wheelchair accessibility.

Big portion, nice atmosphere to eat dinner

Writing this a day after to let the experience settle in before submitting a review. Had a bad experience at this restaurant as we were not looked after well. We were initially taken care of well, but then our server disappeared and NEVER returned to the dining room to check on us. Another waitress only helped us because I asked; all of the other waitresses on the floor were ignoring us too... they could see our empty coffee cups, but didnt offer a refill even thought they had a pot of coffee with them.

I would post about the food but we didnt get seated. 2 waitresses walked by us and said someone will seat you after 10 minutes we left. Very bad

Not what I was expecting at all. Right out of the gate we were forgotten about. When we flagged down a waitress to tell them that weve Being forgotten about, we got a Yaya. We could hear them in the back saying oh crap I forgot about them, when the waitress finally got to the table it was the most slap hazard apology you could possibly get. Trying to order you couldnt get a word in edgewise as she cut you off constantly. My wife enjoyed her sandwich, my ribs were extremely over Sauced, the 4 wings, an eight dollar up charge, were smaller than my thumb. We never seen our waitress again until we were completely finished, no midway refills, no first bite, nothing. It wouldnt be so bad if they were busy, but they werent, maybe four or five tables in the dining area. Service was a hard 0 , food 3, Price $90: Definitely dont recommend. Servers name Bev. C

We send our AirBbB guests to The Duck. They always report back that they especially love eating on the patio, right by the water. I am so glad to have such a beautiful location to recommend to guests. Any a lovely short walk.

Nice location. Hamburger has absolutely zero flavour. My wife didnt believe me so I gave her a bite. It literally just tastes like hamburger bun. I left over 1/2 on my plate.

We had one meal out on a recent trip through the area and decided to try the Whistling Duck - we re so glad we did! The meals were fantastic, matching the service experience we received. Will definitely be going back next time we re in town. Kid-friendliness: Travelling with a 5, 3 and 2 year old, the staff at The Whistling Duck made our dinner experience so enjoyable. They were friendly with the kids, quick to bring them activities, attentive to ensure we got food orders in and timely in getting the kids their meals.

My family and I came in for the first time yesterday for dinner and were recommended the seafood pasta and whiskey burger as well as the peach drink special. We had 3 children with us ages 5, 3 and 2. Our server brought colourings books over without being asked and made us feel welcome right away. We loved the view, the service and the food was exceptional. We cant wait to come back and will be telling friends and family about our experience! Our server was Keeks H.

Ive eaten here several times, but this is the first time since reopening. I ordered the AAA 10 oz striploin and the chef should never had served this piece of meat, inatead should have sent it back to the supplier. Over 1/3 of this steak was fat and grissol and tough to chew, my jaws are still sore from trying to eat any of the meat. The food there was always great, not this time. Very disappointed

Kiki our Server was awesome. It showed she cared and provided everything we needed without asking. Food was good, portions were perfect. We sat on the outdoor patio on a cloudy windy day, but the sun came out just as we started our meal..

This is the place to go for casual dining in Brighton. The views of the Bay complete with swans, seagulls and sailboats make outside dining a treat for young and old alike. The food was excellent and the servicers friendly. We will definitely be back.

Still decent food and great location obviously. We figured prices would increase after the fire but wow did they increase. $11.50 for a small side cesar salad is just an example. Too bad we were looking forward to heading back again but with a $100 lunch for 2 it wont be too often.

Ive been here many times, and it never fails to be the most amazing food around!! Beautiful views from inside and out as well as a large patio. Staff are beyond incredible!! Could not recommend more! Many delicious dishes to choose from, but the chicken parm will always be a must-have!

Food was good. Im a snob with Greek salad so I wasnt thrilled about the non traditional version being made instead of purely cucumber, tomato, olive, and feta.

Wow what a view. Had the Prime Rib sammich with a side of Poutine, wife had the Lobster Club. Both were exceptionally good. The view is spectacular. Majestic swans swimming right close in the bay. The boats, the birds, the water and sunshine all make for a perfect date with the wife.

The restaurant was still closed today because of their fire last summer but the owner was super gracious about allowing dozens of strangers come to watch the eclipse from their beautiful deck. She opened up the almost fully renovated restaurant so people could use the washrooms and was a wonderful host even though there was nothing for sale and no expectation that anyone was going to be there. I am very much looking forward to coming to enjoy this gem when they open again next month. Thank you for your hospitality!

Fantastic location, great food! Set right on the water with a large outdoor patio area, the view and atmosphere cant be beat! Wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of their menu. Food and beverages were served promptly after ordering. Portion size was very generous, and the food was delicious. Highly recommended for a meal or just drinks on a sunny, waterside patio. Definitely will be returning!

Wow, could a hostess be less helpful or friendly? Biked past and thought I d pop in for a beer. No bike rack so I left my bike against a bench that had two planters on it so obviously wasn t going to be used and certainly wasn t in anyone s way. I walked in and told her I just wanted to get a beer. Rather than greeting me, she simply said, You can t leave you home there. When I pointed they had no bike rack so where was I supposed to leave it, adding that it had planters of dirt on it so obviously wasn t being used, she had nothing to offer. Oh and I did see a bike rack on the way out: lying on its side with caution tape tied to it. Very helpful. Hard pass.

A nice quiet little restaurant in Brighton. The move here is the lobster roll, which is rich and buttery but not heavy at all. The location on the water is beautiful.

Made 2 visits in May. First was for a late lunch & there was 4 of us. 3 ordered burgers & thought they were fine. I had steak sandwich & was very disappointed. Ordered rare & it was well done. Not a steak but rather chewy chunks of beef. Second visit was in retrospect not a great choice on Mothers day. Extremely busy but we had a reservation & were seated quickly. Looked forward to their roast beef special which 3 of us ordered. Fourth person ordered a burger. We were assured that we could have rare roast but it arrived well done. Potatoes were overseasoned & very salty, to the point of being inedible! Vegetables were fresh but almost raw. The burger arrived with cold fries. Server quickly replaced them with fresh hot fries. Turned out the burger was cold as well with a lump of congealed cheese on it! Owner stopped by our table to inquire about our meal. Told her we were disappointed with the quality of the meal, no apology or sorry from her just the excuse that they were very busy & couldnt help it. Table was cleared & 4 plates returned with full dinners on them. No offer of a doggy bag. My pooches would have loved well done beef. Server returned with bill & offer of dessert to make up for lousy meal. No mention if this was on the house or not. Nothing was reduced on the bill. When we pointed this out, server had a senior staff come out to assist. At $33 a plate & $20 for burger, I expected something to be done. Many excuses made & when I explained I was local & expected better, was told you dont look familiar ???WHAT?? She finally said she would reduce the bill 25%. Brought out new bill & it was reduced $25 not 25%. We paid & left very disappointed. We will not be returning nor will we recommend to anyone.

Tried to place a reservation- messaged on Facebook as the website suggests to and was never met with a response. When I contacted the restaurant I was told they don t ever check it and therefore would not be able to make my reservation. I suggested they remove the feature and the response I got was that s okay .

Very good food and very nice location just on the shore. Very picturesque! Recommend crab cake, seafood chowder, shepherds pie and liver and onions.

Great food but portions are too big. Lots of food waste.

5 stars for atmosphere, and food. Exceptional Waterview patio with great views from 3 sides, so peaceful. Stunning. Waitress was kind and smiled a lot. Sufficient staffing to ensure customers attended to and staff not overwhelmed. Staff appear to enjoy working there. I had the pulled pork baked macaroni and cheese dish...yummy! My dinner mate had the steak sandwich and Ceasar salad which he said was good. The dessert selection was just ok... mainly just cakes. Didnt care too much for the chocolate lava cake which was served cold, expected it to be warm. Only other small critique is when we arrived we were told all outside patio tables were reserved, but we did get a back table on side of patio. The whole 2 hours we were there, at least half of the prime patio tables that were empty when we got there were still empty when we left and never occupied for the duration of our stay. We could easily have been at one of those and left before anyone arrived for one of those reserved tables. Hard to believe from 5 to 7 those table sat empty and were reserved. I question whether the issue was a matter of poor organizational reservation logistics, or if the staff member seating was really aware if reserved or not, or if this is a standard line being told to anyone without a reservation (without checking? )? For example, perhaps guests who reserved outside table changed their minds and ate inside but reservation not updated? There were no reservation signs on any of the reserved tables. I think this needs to be looked at. Otherwise, great experience and we would come back... but with a reservation.

Great spot on the water for food and drinks. Clean and spacious, service was great. Prices were reasonable. Would recommend the fish and chips.

Just tried to purchase a gift card over the phone from this restaurant, but the owner, Kelly, was too daft and shortsighted to take a few minutes to accommodate. This would have assured a visit from a party that would have bought dinner and drinks. Apparently, 4 minutes of time is more precious to Kelly than 2-3 people buying dinner and drinks. Way to go Kelly! You might want to hire someone who can do math and has a clue about customer service. Just a thought.

Excellent food and service

One of the most beautiful patios/views in the area. Great waiting staff. Great owners (?) as well as they took care of some rather rude customers that were breaking some rules. Didnt have much food but what we had seemed fine. If I had to mention a negative, I had made a reservation for a certain time and even though we showed up 15 minutes early to our reservation we had to wait ~35 minutes to get our table (so 20min past our reservation time).

Food and service was awesome. We had some small flies around our table, but I guess that is to be expected given the location on the water

The food and portions were good, nice set up by the water. Service was really bad. We asked the bill to be split in 4, the waitress split it in 2. We asked her to correct it, and when she came back she said with an attitude this is the last time I fix your bill you can split it yourselves if ots wrong. At that point, we had even said anything to her. Then she proceeded to give herself 18% tip. We were celebrating, and I didnt want to take it further and ruin the time for everyone else. But that woman did not deserve even a 10% tip.

We just moved to the area and we re told to check out this restaurant. Sadly, we had a terrible experience yesterday. Our waitress was rude, continually giving dirty looks to us the 2 times we saw her and not attentive what so ever. She took our order and the next time we saw her was to get our bill which took 20 minutes to get after we finished. Not once did she check up asking if we wanted our drinks refilled, if our food was okay or if we needed anything else. We were ignored the entire time. The food was plain and flavourless. Especially the salmon dinner. The cost to upgrade to a Caesar salad is brutal for the tiny bowl they serve it in. Over all the experience was well below par. Disappointed to say the least for an $80 bill. Definitely will not ever return or recommend.

Was sat at 6:15 by an host and by 6:40 we left without seeing a server, But made eye contact with at least 3 staff members - but was still ignored. Worst experience ever, this place has definitely gone downhill. Will not be making the trip to be disappointed again only good thing about this place was the patio. Food

Food is just frozen heated like no real chef works there and if you don t make a reservation for outside seating you get a table on the west side in full sun too hot not enjoyable owner is aware as many people were asking to be moved but there was nothing else in shade.. I owned a business for twenty five years and whenever I seen a weak spot it got fixed.. the owner is very aware but still unwilling to invest profit into proper shading for west side..also very expensive for the quality of food you are paying that price for the view and again your still paying that price no view and in the direct sun..

First visit and it wont be our last. Great spot on the water with sublime views. The food was fantastic and the service top notch. So nice to find a gem and share it with others. Dont hesitate to check it out!

Do not order the seafood chowder. It was Terrible. No taste of seafood. It was over powered with chives and was so thick with the taste of flour... Two other people in our group enjoyed the liver and the chicken mushroom linguini, but the chowder was a huge disappointment. Food

Beautiful location. Service was borderline rude. They served us but it seemed like an inconvenience. The food was fine. Not special but not bad. Overall its fine and hopefully the poor service was an aberration.

Drove out for lunch to find the parking lot taped off and no sign of life. Wasted trip, wont be returning

Big wing sandwich was tasty but quality of chicken wasnt good. Stringy. Outside of that, great service, fresh cold beer and amazing atmosphere on the patio.
