241 Park St, Brockville, ON K6V 2H6, Canada
When this place is open, website is accurate; Best chips, fish, gravies, and platters in Brockville!
This was our first time there. And unfortunately we were both very disappointed with our dinners. We ordered halibut as it is hard to get in this area. The fish was thin and on the rubbery side. Halibut is a light and flaky fish. After one bite I took it back. They were surprised when I brought it to their attention that I was very unsatisfied. And the story goes even more awry with their service after that. I heard good things about this place. Just unfortunate I guess. With this first experience I would NOT go back for a second chance. Nor would I recommend their fish.
Under new management. Clean fresh dine in or take out restaurant. Delivery available. A large regular customer group. Fresh cut vegetables daily, hand-battered fish upon ordering.
Casual dining with some delicious #fishandchips. This place was quick service, great cod fish lightly battered and the fries were good fresh. Good portions. The dining area was quiet and felt like a nice fast food style place at reasonable price. Come try this place and enjoy Brockville. We have since come back and tried the #poutine and more fish and chips. This place does not disappoint. The #fish was just the perfect crisp and fish that melted in our mouths. If you have not tried their food, make it a lunch or dinner destination.
Excellent service and delicious food. It was the best fish I had ever had cooked perfectly crispy not soggy at all. The tartar sauce is delicious and the coleslaw was great!! Highly recommend. The prices do not seem to be jacked like every other place during covid. We got two fish and chip plates for $23. The guy who served us was polite and courteous.
Recommend the shrimp halibut and fries. Very affordable, clean. Cooked freshly for you. Homemade seafood sauce tartar sauce Highly recommended visiting for your fish and chip fix.
Amazing fish and chips place! I ordered fish tacos and chips. The tacos and “secret sauce” on them were very tasty! The waiter was nice and friendly. The dish was a good size for the price, very filling. I am not from the area, but I will make a point of stopping in Brokeville again and visit Captain George’s!
We went for lunch on a Sunday here. Being new to the city, this was one of the very few fish and chips places that had hassle free parking and dine in option. The location is tucked away from all the parking issues in Brockville. Hence the decision to go there. But I am glad I went there with my dad. The staff was very friendly, and we had a wonderful time at George's. I had a plate of fish ( halibut) and chips, as seen in the picture. And we shared an appetiser which included clams and shrimps. It was supposed to be scallops as well, but they had a shortage at the time. Although I wished they compensated for the lack of scallops by tossing in some shrimps, I have only good things to say about the food they gave. The batter was so light and crispy on the shrimp. It was delicious! The fish was light and flaky within the crispy batter as well. Fries could be crispier and less time in the fryer would do justice to them. I would go there again for sure.
Best fish and chips Ive had in ages
Fish and chips are just perfect
Good food and service enjoyed my first experience there.
The fish chip was very greasy and the fries had no taste not recommended
Soggy fish and batter that was very undercooked. Increase the temperature of the oil or cook the food longer. Fries half raw also. Will not be back.
Really good food. Decent price.
clean eating area - generous portions - enjoyed haddock as well as halibut (which is not on all fish menus) - Dawn checked with us several times to ensure everything was fine and that we had all that we needed - the chef also checked with us- great experience and food Parking: lots of free parking available
Awsome service experience with James, thank you amazing halibut and shrimp and fries. Coming back .
The food was woohoo tasty. I think that its the best Ive ever had. The staff was pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Ill be back. Just so good!
I was a real fan but today was a real let down greasy and no chips on the captain platter and no clam strips available to order and not alot of cabbage leaf in coleslaw was more ends than anything. Im so glad I didnt have company or family tonight to not enjoy this exsprence. Parking: Bad parking lot but ok if your smart
4 of us had Halibut and chips to go. The good is the fish and batter were tasty. By the fish potion was no bigger than 3inch by 3inch. And at $14 is a big rip off portion for the price. This place used to be good but we are not going back.
Fish and fries were excellent. Sodas lacked flavour and meals took quite a while to prepare, although there was a steady flow of takeout customers.
Worst fish in town, soggy batter no flavour and long wait time
Very Good Fish n Chips
Nothing to write home about. The fry was done very well but the cod was very thin and slightly over cooked as a result. Poutine was ok with mass produced dark gravy. Attached store sells cakes, ice cream, take home pizza kits and snacks. Odd but seemed busy
Delish halibut, freshly cooked with nice light crispy batter. Must have been atop an entire potato worth of fries at least. Was pleasantly surprised as we were driving through on the eve of Canada Day, so not much open. Food
fish was overdone, fries were soggy, had no salt available
I came to this location of Captain George s thinking my experience will be the same as Port Hope or Cobourg locations, that I have been going to for the last 20 years. But I was wrong. Very disappointing visit. Starting of the restaurant as it is part of convenience store of some sort. It is like an express style location. Then the bigger disappointment came as I see the food is not the same quality. Different battered fish style not the fluffy style of captain George s, The halibut is disappointing as quality and size. The shrimps are the same thing. The only thing did not disappoint is the fries Really! Bad location not the same as the rest of the franchise. Do not visit.
This was a very good meal and the young man that served us was so kind, we will be coming back for sure on our next vacations
Not the prettiest restaurant (most good English style fish and chips places arent), but the food is incredible, and there was plenty of it! The staff was really nice too. I will be back.
1st time here . Happy to say Ill be a repeat offender. Excellent Kid-friendliness: Family oriented
Fries overcooked. Did not ask oce if we needed anything else. Very poor service.
Best poutine in town, totally underrated!
Best poutine in town! Severely underrated!
I highly recommend stopping by. This was my first time visiting Captain Georges. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. My family really enjoyed it.
The fish was great. Very little fries on all 3 orders. Could put more fries in the boxes with the fish. Service was great. Very friendly staff and very quick.
Delicious haddock and generous portions. The 3-piece family meal was amazing and so big that we took our leftovers home. Would highly recommend! Kid-friendliness: Great laidback atmosphere for kids. Our children had a blast
Only place in town I could find that served halibut. It was good.
Good food
Best fish and chip . friendly staff and a visit with the owner thks
Cozy local spot.
Very clean place. Fish and chips excellent. Young man that cooked very friendly.
Lightly battered fish and amazing shrimp. Highly recommended.
Halibut fish was very small and the size was not indicated. The chips were bad, raw inside, burnt outside and squishy.
Shared 2pc fish and chips. Plenty for 2 people. Fish was lightly battered and a good size. Staff was friendly. Prices higher then other fish and chip shops. But the batter was lighter and fish piece was a bit larger. Will go back. Reccomend.
What a little gem! Delicious food. Friendly service. Absolutely worth the visit.
Great restaurant worth the detour to get here.
Halibut was way over cooked I mean practically fish jerky. Chips sucked. Should ve gone to Don s. Not like Kingston at all. Grubby.
Excellent customer service and delicious food! Definitely I recommend this restaurant.
Fish and chips are very good, nice light batter, reasonably priced. Always friendly service. Wheelchair accessibility: Captain Georges is completely wheelchair accessible.
We met a few of our Biker friends there today. Our first time there. We enjoyed our fish and chips and would easily recommend this to everyone. We met the Wife of the Wife and Husband team who own the place (and the dairy next door). She was very pleasant even though they were missing a staff member today. They kept it all together themselves and cheerfully served us lunch. We will be back next time we are in town. thx
Delish and fresh
Discovered a gem in Brockville Amazing food !!!! Great portions!!! Highly recommend!!!
Fried clam strips, scallops and shrimp were proper crispy. The coleslaw was tasty and the fries were good like youd get off a chip truck. Salad was fresh. One man show, same young man took our orders cooked the food and served us! Cheers to him! Also bought some delicious fudge from the shop attached!
Stopped in on our way back to Ottawa and had haddock and chips. It was so delicious. Fish was lightly battered to perfection and not greasy. Generous portion. Young man serving us was cordial. Coleslaw was not a vinegrette but mayonnaise based which is not my preference. Downside was only provided one napkin.
Wow a 3 oz fish portion ! Overpriced. Chips arent all that great. Pay more and get less.
Great food but take out containers are Styrofoam
Been to the different fish and chip places in town and this is the best for sure. Parking: Lotsa parking available
Tasty fish. Friendly staff. Everything cooked to order.
Portions were very small. $22 fish & chips had 2 very small pieces (= in size to most places 1 piece), very few chips & no coleslaw side item. Very dissatisfied compared to previous visits.
Small portions.
Excellent Fish & Chips. Great breading! Short wait.
Phenomenal fish, the chips could be a little better. Extra think cut takes away from some of the crisp.
Always fresh and well cooked.
The food is as good they have many options from fish and chips to burgers and salads . The fish and chips was good and the sauce was really good too . The place could use a renovation and could be faster . The other thing I think they didn t change the oil for the fries for a while. I would recommend the food still but maybe take it and have it in a park or somewhere.
Stopped by today on my way home from camping and I was shocked as the reviews did not complement the food I got. We ordered 2 pc of halibut, fries and coleslaw. The portions were small but we looked past that as we had a big craving for fish and chips that we were looking to satisfy. The fish was very dry, when we bit into it it was like we were eating dry overcooked chicken tenders. The fries were definitely re-fried as some were golden brown and the rest were very dark brown. The coleslaw was alright and that s all I d recommend this restaurant for. Unfortunately, wife and I had a very bad experience today.
Great atmosphere
Great atmosphere and attentive service.
Great food ... first day of removal of restrictions of dining in. Table could have used extra attention. Not busy at all - somewhat of a surprise to me.
Was driving back to Toronto from Quebec and needed to stop for gas and a meal. Did a quick Google search of restaurants nearby. The high reviews are absolutely accurate. I ordered a two piece Halibut and chips. Its as good as anything Ive ever had in Halifax.
Looked like they didnt preheat the oil. Fish was chewy, overcooked or raw. Nothing special about the place .
Should have done this sooner. Grabbed lunch (Halibut & chips) a couple weeks ago on my way somewhere. Service was friendly, food was good, no complaints. Portion sizes of fish (2pcs) was fair. Will definitely go back again.
The best in Canada
Loved this place. The owners were super friendly. It was clean, the food was reasonably priced and I enjoyed my food with no complaints. Good potions, cooked to perfection, and served hot in a timely manner. I should add that I don t often eat fish and chips as I don t care for it but this place changed my mind!
Good food, excellent service
The Halibut tenders were fantastic, fresh and not too much breading. Service was exceptional.
Great food and service. Friendly and inviting.
Great food. Fish cooked to a light fluffy texture and not greasy. Would recommend this Quant littlecplacecto everyone thats looking for great fish and chips. Prices are reasonable also.
Great fish and chips.
Excellent service and fantastic highly battered and delicious fish and chips.
The food is good but overpriced.
Fantastic service, good food, clean restaurant and friendly staff. A+
Absolutely the best Fish & Chip in eastern Ontario.
Its great
Good food, nice friendly staff
Best fish and chips in town.
Great fresh fish, nice lunch
Great food
The little restaurant was delicious!! We had fish and chips with onion rings. The hamburger was made with meat from the local butcher next door and it was amazing...I would highly recommend it..
Excellent fish and chips.
Good food. We enjoyed our fish and chips
The best fish and chips in town
Excellent fish and chips thanks
Great fish & chips! We had halibut &clam strips.
Best fish in Brockville
Great service
Excellent food. Fast friendly service.
Good food
Fish was absolutely delicious. Had Halibut fish and chips and salad. Fish portion however was a little small.
Good food and decent prices
Great fish and chips
Not as good as Dons. But they have a larger selection and seating. I have no real complaints but also nothing really excited me. Its adequate food and no real negatives to highlight. Service was fantastic and the guy was very friendly and on top of things.
I didnt actually to to Captain Georges fish and chips, but I went to Cowans dairy, and its way better than the one in Cornwall. They give HUGE scoops and the ice cream is awesome. Only downfall, is that theres no place to sit. Theres only tables outside.
Great food and awesome service! Will definitely be going back
Took it to go. Should of requested cutlery and salt and pepper. Hard to eat with fingers. It was good though.
Fish was crispy and tasty
excellent fish
Try the platter. Its quite good.
Very good.
The service is good as well as the fish and chips
Good service and delicious fish & chips.
Great fresh fish and value!
Haddock and shrimp excellent - lightly battered.
It was a good place to stop for dinner. There is a nice area outside with picnic tables. Connects to Cowans Dairy.
Good food but too expensive
Delicious :)
This restaurant is so unique, they have it set up to look like youre actually boarding a boat. I love it! The portion sizes are very reasonable for the price you pay and the food is delicious. I love coming here with my family.
Really good fish and chips. You can either sit in or take out.
GREAT fish & chips
Best burger in town. All the food is good as we go regularly and the people are great.
We go here regularly great seafood excellent fish with great service from a friendly staff
Good fish but pricey compared to other fish and chip restaurants in town
It was Delicious!!!!
Great family restaurant serving a nice selection of fish and seafood. Well worth the detour off the 401!
Great fish , and french fries.
Delicious crispy batter on their fish and shrimp. Servers and cooks are very friendly!
Best place for fish and chips. Period. Great food, service, and atmosphere. I make it a regular stop when travelling
Great atmosphere, great service, and the food is fantastic.....
Excellent, good price, friendly, lots of parking
Best food ever.
We have visited a number of Captains in various towns along the St Laurence. We sometime drive from Ottawa to Cornwall to eat at the George s there. Good prices, good food, and usually pretty good service. There is some variation from outlet to outlet, however.
The fish was fresh and delicious. The prices were great for the portion size. Staff was very efficient.
Ordered a shiskabob and a garden salad, as a take out. Got a Pita with a greek salad after they were specifically told twice what was wanted and not a pita and a greek salad. I also found the fries looked like they had been recooked in very old grease. and the fish was terrible. I will not order from here again, I will return to Dons Fish & Chips first. Captain Georges was disgusting. Pretty bad when you cant get a simple order right. I was going to take the whole thing back but because it was take out and out near Lyn, not worth wasting my gas. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. They will never get a second shot.
halibut burger was amazing.
Food and service are good. Parking can be challenge when its busy.
Really good food
Surprisingly good! Not too greasy and the gravy is deadly! Had the 1pc Haddock w/chips and Coleslaw, no complaints. Reasonably priced. Loses a star due to lack of variety. Also, the menu online didnt match the menu in the restaurant (dinner for 2 or 3 not shown on the in store menu).
Great fish and chips
Friendly service....great fish and fries
Friendly & fast service with a clean dinning area. The fish and chips with cole slaw was delicious.
Wonderful fish and good servers
Best place eat
Great little sea food spot. The Halibut is light and crispy and fries are always good.
Great selection if fresh fish. Only downfall is that everything is fried.
Always extremely positive , helpful , hardworking staff that aim to please.
Excellent food and service. Prices nog too bad either
Good fish and chips. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Ice cream place next door has lots of selections for dessert.
I dont eat fish but the Salisbury steak and souvlaki are awesome
This restaurant has the best fish and chips in Brockville. The coating is light with lots of fish inside. The staff are all very cheery and helpful. It is worth a visit.
Great food and service
Great food not expensive great service
They are very nice people. They are very friendly people. The food is wondering and the ice cream is great. The service is wondering.
We think Captain Georges in Brockville serves the best fish n chips in the city! Very generous portions.
Captain Georges is nice. Its a fish and chips place, so not too much focus on decor or anything. It wasnt too busy when we came in, but the tables were not completely clean either. Maybe someone had just left? I will say though the staff are nice young people, and the food is good.
Everything tasted like they have not changed their oil in weeks
Good food friendly employees great service food if filling with leftovers to take home
Been there for a meal on two seperate occasions and the staff were so friendly and accommodating! They knew most of their customers by name and the food was delicious both times. Will be back to enjoy the halibut and chips again and again. Thanks for the great meal :)
Friendly staff, Aaron was incredibly friendly, and very good quality food. Best fish and chips in Brockville. Would definately recommend to others looking foe a good meal
Ok if you like fried foods
Food its really good there and the ones work there are nice to .
First time there awesome service
Passed through from Ottawa, excellent fish and chips. Was not greasy like some places and there was a good amount of fish. Price is very reasonable too!
Good food great service very hygienic
Our favorite fish place in Ontario !
