Classic French dishes meet hearty Vermont fare at this upscale, vintage-glam bistro.
The burger was very good, and the fries, too. The beef Bourguignon tasted good, but it was too dry to be called bourguignon and the waitress admitted she had known that even when serving it. Sad. Another sad thing is that we were charged for the special “bistro burger” while actually ordered a regular one, without four gras. $34 instead of $18. I only realized this when I already had signed the check and left., so I let it go The waitress was very pleasant and friendly - but she should have mentioned the problem with the dish and should not have charged us wrong.
Amiable service but super slow. Awesome drinks and good food but the breads are a bit hard to chew. Sitting on terrace, the vibe was good. Prices are steep.
We got there for 5:15 pm to take advantage of the early bird special Early bird special runs from 4 to 6 pm You get a 4 course dinner for $25.00 not including drinks or extras. You get 5 meal choices. The food is good and the atmosphere is nice. Great experience
Had a birthday meal here for our son who attends uvm and a few of his friends. We all had enjoyable meals....we did an early sitting with a 430 reservation, so beat the rush. Sat inside near the open air doors and enjoyed the atmosphere. 3 salmon meals, a beef meal, and carbonara. All were good. Everyone had salad and it was tasty start for the meals. I had the salmon frites which was on point.
Leunig’s Bistro & Café After a 23 mile bike ride, I was starving, but didn’t want to just grab anything. I was ready to sit and enjoy a meal comfortably. The outside dining area was the perfect spot! I ordered a chocolate martini to start with and that came out fabulously – maybe one of my top-five of all time martini’s! I ordered the Shrimp salad and it was absolutely amazing! I’ve dined a lot of places and have never come across a dish so light, delicious, and creative in presentation. I loved it’s Church St. Marketplace location and I had a front row seat to all the passersby during my entire late lunch. I would definitely recommend this place as the service was fast, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. Bathrooms were also very clean!
The salmon dish for lunch was fabulous. The service was perfect. The atmosphere and music was lovely. The creme brûlée was delightful. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
4.4. Great spot in Burlington. It’s kind of a French bistro meets American pub and gave me a New Orleans French Quarter vibe. Friendly service and knowledgeable staff. Great happy hour/special menu from 4-5pm daily. The steak frites was great- sauce was one the sweeter side. They are super accommodating of allergies, I went in with a dairy and soy allergy and they were knowledgeable about which dressings and sauces were safe and knew without being told that vegetable oil is unsafe. Really kind staff and accommodating of children. Big menu with something for everyone.
We started with L'Orangerie Bordeaux Blanc. A perfect pairing with Raw Oysters. Our friendly server, Daniel, put it together for us. The Filet Mignon entree was perfection. We finished with the Key Lime Coconut Tart. Sorry, no picture. Couldn't wait. 😊 Delicious! Looking forward to our next visit! Update: We've been back two or three times since the first review. Excellent every time! Today, we started with oysters and the L'Orangerie Bordeaux Blanc. Followed by Beef Bourguignon and Cavatappi Carbonara. So delicious!! Thank you all at Leunig's and thank you, Daniel.
Neat place, average food with good service. Tables are really close together.
A great place for a great meal, service was excellent and drinks were good Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Wheelchair accessibility: Auto doors on the front and bathroom for handicap accessibility
Superbly charming and cozy inside, however the food was extremely disappointing. Especially for the price. Save the beef bourguignon for a trip to France.
After reading the reviews which were mixed, we gave this restaurant a chance. While the place had lots of people and a good vibe, the food was disappointing. The onion soup was served luke warm and the beet salad good. The beef bourguignon was very dry and meat very tough. It was served with cold mashed potatoes and the beans were undercooked. Not very pleasant. We asked the waitress to heat the dish up some more. She arrived with two new dishes (a nice gesture) but they too had cold potatoes and even drier & tougher meat. At this point, I didnt want to complain again and just ate what I could. To finish, I ordered a cappuccino which looked pretty but tasted more like beige water. Needless to say we wont be back there.
Sat at the bar, food was amazing. Matt was great as well!
This little bistro is fantastic! It reminds me of a bistro in Paris! The food was amazing, and the atmosphere is incredible. I will most certainly be coming back here! A perfect lunch spot!
This place feels just like a bistro in Paris. Great service, great drinks, great food.
Great value, especially the late afternoon memu. Been there a few times and it never dissapoints
Love Leunigs! The service, the atmosphere, the French onion soup, etc. Fries are disappointing as they taste frozen....
Server was accompanying to our complaint, if you re going to get quality steaks, I wouldn t recommend visiting here. Appetizers and bar food was great. We don t eat out much, but when we do it s for quality and quantity(ordered three steaks) , very disappointed
Everything was so good. The escargot was topped with cheese which at first was surprising but then I remembered Vermont. So it made sense. And it worked. Onion soup au gratin was delicious as well. My duck was crispy and tender and cooked perfectly. The Beef bourguignon was extremely flavorful. Creme brulee was the ideal ending on a great meal. Matt was our server and he was phenomenal. Thank you Matt
Amazing food! Amazing drinks! Amazing service! 10/10 recommend!
Very cool spot for an early fall dinner. The duck two ways (forgot what it is called in French) was excellent, and my chicken carbonara was generous with its portion of chicken. The price was under what I would expect to pay for such quality. There was, however, an odd quirk during dinner. Our waiter kept slamming items onto the table and then jetting off. He wasnt rude, but absolutely had no intention on even attempting politeness. When I say slam I mean he like would almost frisbee release the plates onto the table. So strange. I even asked my wife if I said something rude to him accidentally. Oh well - good food, anyway.
Delicious - poutine was amazing and service was top notch. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Very tasty food, good atmosphere
Every time my wife and I visit Burlington, we have to stop at Leunigs at least once for either lunch or dinner. Their menu is fairly diverse and offers something for everyone. We usually get the cavatappi pasta along with a couple of drinks and an appetizer. Most of the food items are fantastic...you would really struggle to find something that wasnt prepared as well as it could be. The atmosphere is classic french bistro and attire is casual but we usually toss on nicer clothes for a dinner out without our young kids. I would not recommend bringing young children to this restaurant unless you plan on dining outside. You should make a reservation for dinner as they are PACKED with diners any time after 5. Our most recent order was the french onion soup (8/10), the poutine (9/10), arugula citrus salad (10/10), pumpkin soup (10/10), and our entree of cavatappi carbonara (10/10). We went home with a couple of boxes as we could not finish everything.
Enjoyed dinner for 4. Food was great. Table was between the bar and the open front windows. Comfortable and great service. Noise level was about right.
Slow service on a busy Friday night. Running out of menu items by 8pm isnt great. Food was solid but not great. Do not recommend the steak frites unless you want a slab of beef on your plate. The carbonara was tasty. The atmosphere and setting is really cool. Would hope to see better service and food before we return
Lunch at this Church Street favorite was disappointing today. We are light eaters but the sandwiches were so small and skimpy that we left still hungry. The portion did not justify the price of nearly $20, for a small sandwich and some greens. As always, gets a star just for dining atmosphere. The most professional waitstaff in Burlington and always nicely dressed - as they should for an upscale restaurant. Nice place for sitting by window and people watching.
The duck confit I order was not confit at all. The whole meal was kinda wet and dense. Ok ambiance, but probably the poorest french food Ive ever eaten.
we have loved this place for over 25 years, which is why this is difficult to write. Service is impeccable, always. we had lunch there last week, and were terribly disappointed. My husbands French dip was very modest, with a negligible amount of meat. The cavatappi, which has traditionally been my go-to treat, was a heavy smokey disappointment. We have never had a meal here that was not perfectly prepared and memorable. Until last week. My understanding is that there was a recent ownership change, so it just may be that they re working out some kinks in the kitchen. I hope so. we will give them some time to right the ship before we try them again. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a step-free room, but tables are so close together, that it would be difficult to
We ordered the cavatappi carbonara. It was a large bowl of pasta with bland sauce and scant bits of the other ingredients. Also the pumpkin ravioli was very bland and the sauce watery. Not delicious.
We stopped in for a quick lunch before our 3 hour journey home today. We ordered 2 soups, a cheese plate and some poutine. The waitress really wanted no part in working today and it was so obvious. I was excited to show my husband this spot since he hadn t been before and I found it so cute when i visited last fall. But the service was so unenjoyable. The food also came out so spaced out it was insanity. The poutine came 45 minutes after we ordered so we just took it to go because we needed to leave. I also wasn t a fan of not getting an itemized receipt. We ended up with an order of kettle chips and dip we didn t order and we were curious if we paid for them or not. It was strange to not receive an actual bill but we were both aggravated so we just paid and left. The hostesses were very nice but overall I m just not into tipping a waitress who not once checked in or even wanted to be serving in the first place. Total vibe killer. And yes I did tip, but i definitely did not feel it was earned. Cheese plate was lovely, chips we didn t order were good. Pumpkin soup was eh ( needed salt). No comment on the poutine because we ate it cold in the car
The salmon dinner is our favorite!
Great atmosphere and food. Salmon and Steak Frites were very good! Food
I paid $14 for a house salad. The side salads the others got were the same size as mine. It was very disappointing. And either the plate was warm or the salad was.
Calamari was delish. A little crispy, better ever cooked than under. Vegetable soup was tasty. Staff was accommodating.
Very disappointed as for quite awhile no half bottles of wine....I wanted a glass of Chardonnay..only 1 was available from CA and it was not good at all for $13 per glass and no house Chardonnay available. ..tis. sad.
Food is good, overpriced for sure, but the thing that bothers me is that the takeout containers are in black plastic which is not recyclable in Vermont, even their to go silverware is black plastic. For this reason, I won t be getting takeout from there again.
Place is a tourist trap
Good food, and drink, but slow service. At least it was beautiful out so we were comfortable.
I waited an hour for my pickup order on a regular Tuesday night.
What a bummer. One of my most reliable and favorite go to restaurants has managed to not only disappoint, but embarrass me in front of my guests. Friends flew in from out of town for the holiday weekend. I was to pick them up after work, but they came in early so they Uber d over to Leunigs where I had a standing reservation. They were seated, not associated with my reservation and upon my arrival I learned that they were handled very shabbily. Front of house manager made them feel unwelcome and put out by having to seat them. This was 4 PM and the restaurant was empty. I arrived and noticed that my friends were sat at the table that I had requested to be seated at when I made the reservations over a month ago. So not only were they welcomed with attitude, the table that I had reserved was given to them, without the thought or consideration of reserving it for me. After learning about the mishandling of my guests, I promptly asked for the check and we left. It s such a sad day when you find a place like Leunigs, an institution which you could always trust to make you and your guests feel comfortable and well taken care, fall into a service challenged and unfriendly black hole. Yes, I know we all have our bad days but when you re prepared to spend hundreds of dollars to entertain fine friends, fine service and smiling faces should follow.
Food was excellent and the bartenders were very friendly. Only critique is we were seated at a table but 20 minutes went by and no service. We moved to bar and had a great evening.
One of the best spots in Burlington. The atmosphere is unbeatable, and the Parisian flair is so great. Awesome outdoor seating, and service was wonderful. The steak frites, wedge salad, and oysters were all incredible. Affogato was sizeable and delicious aswell.
There are some really good stuff and some just not up to par. Do not forget to order bread and pesto!
Excellent menu, great service!!
This was such a a charming bistro with great food and very excellent service. I have some food intolerances and my waitress was really helpful and had great suggestions. We had a lovely evening.
The onion soup was one the best I have ever eaten! That broth was devine!
We eat here every time we visit Burlington. The salmon plate is delicious, never overcooked, with a side salad and basket of bread. The indoor tables are set in a cozy ambience but the best experience is outside on their terrace located on the pedestrian mall. Nowadays, it s hard to find a restaurant with fresh food, friendly service and a good location. We just keep coming back.
We got 4 very different dishes, and all were flat out amazing! The waiter was fun, knowledgeable, and efficient. We would absolutely go back if we were in town again
Leunigs used to be a go-to place for us when an acquaintance attended UVM during 2011-2015. I was always amazed at the quality of the food - the freshness, the preparation, the presentation, and of course, the taste. This visit years later was a disappointment. To start, the cheese plate used to be an artistic highlight with delicious local cheese, fresh fruit, and tasty crostini. The cheese was a Grafton Cheddar, and it was tasty. The rest was below average. The cherry compote was meh, and the fruits did not look fresh, including grapes, blueberries, and blackberries - one of which would not have adorned the plate at my house. Oh, and shrinkflation hit the platter. It used to be served on an oval platter. Now it comes on an 8-inch (est.) plate. I wont get into detail on the Onion Soup or Greek Salad my son and I ordered. They were good, as was my Filet Mignon. Nothing spectacular, but good. The mashed potatoes werent cold, but they were closer to cold than hot. As for my sons Boeuf Bourguignon, he ate half of it. I tasted it and found it bland and the beef was dry. For my next visit to Burlington, Ill research other dinner options.
Terrible food Very slow service Food
The new bolognese was the best I ve had in my life, the sauce is super creamy and rich. Definitely would recommend
Horrible service by wannabe french waiters. Food was over priced and boring. No taste.
When its open you can count on a good array of dishes from which to choose, a lovely glass of wine, and lots of flavor in your meal.
Visiting Vermont ... beautiful day, drove an hour to visit Leunigs specifically. Had a fabulous meal here a year or so back. Walked in at 2pm and was informed they had stopped serving now for a tasting until 4pm & to change over to their dinner menu. Really??? We could have sat outside ... Online App info hours mention nothing about this and we cannot wait until 4pm. So disappointed!
Try to eat here today, but were turned away by server saying no dogs were allowed on their patio. We ate elsewhere and when we passed this establishment later that day other dogs had been allowed on the patio (clearly pets, not service animals). To clarify, we understand certain restaurants do not allow dogs and we respect that, but it felt very bias to see large dogs being allowed there when our small (under 20lbs) well behaved dog couldn t. This is very unfortunate since we looked forward to trying their food.
One of the best restaurants in downtown Burlington, right on Church St! The menu is incredibly diverse and outstanding, the outdoor patio is excellent for people watching on Church St. and enjoying the weather, the interior is cozy and intimate, the staff is professional and friendly, and the prices are fair. A long time favorite and very popular-reservations book out far in advance, and a must in Burlington!
Great food and service
Always delicious. Parking: Unpredictable depending upon which day of the week and time of day. Food : 5/5 |
Great atmosphere, great food, gluten free options! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Food : 5/5 |
Large menu with many options. I had venison, lamb, duck sliders. All very unique flavors. Good desert too. Ill go back to try more. Not bad price on food.
Went for lunch past Saturday, seemed ok, so went back for dinner at 9 pm Saturday night, unfortunately we were told they are not taking anymore guest for the night! I was like what???. Very disappointing. You dont refuse repeat customers like that. Stay away from this place. You can get much better food and service at other places there.
Great upscale restaurant in the heart of Burlington. Tasty French food and a cozy atmosphere. The food and drinks were great.
Fantastic meal, great cocktails and excellent service!
Sally the Server for the WIN Delectable menu, I ordered loads of things, fabulous service, SALLY, and ambiance galore. Highly recommend! Food
Best chicken dinner ever! The atmosphere was very pleasant and cozy, the staff were very nice. It was extremely busy (Friday night). Definitely get a reservation! We were seated at the bar, but the service was excellent. Beautiful location!
They are pretty good at doing poutine if you are looking for some outside of Montreal. I also really like their truffle fries As for the food, I think its pretty good but people have had mixed experiences. I think theres a lot more better places to try if you are in the Burlington area.
Great beef bourgonion and duck poutine. Duck poutine was so good we ordered it twice.
Never eat There but I have a friend that eats thier offen likes it food is good prices are reasonable. Middle of the road rating because I personal never been but my friend recommends it. Looks nice and very clean nice out door dinning when in season.
Best Thai food in upper valley. No, really.
Friendly staff, great deals available, best espresso martini in town
French style Bistro, excellent food and service Vegetarian options: There are no vegetarian options Food : 5/5 |
Absolutely one of the best meals Ive had in a very long time! The French onion soup, autumn wedge salad, filet mignon were all perfect! And the maple creme brulee was the best weve ever had!!! The staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. And, they had a fantastic selection of single malt scotch!
I ve been to Leunigs Since Denny Morrison opened it decades ago. Different owners, different chefs, have seen incredible ups and downs in the quality of service and food. We celebrate birthday birthdays, and holidays there. Recently, I had lunch, a burger, which I asked to be cooked medium rare. It came gray, hard and barely edible. I had to get in and get out so I didn t ask To have them fire another one but very disappointing. Had dinner there last night kept it simple and light with a salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was like cardboard. Our waitress noticed that I didn t need and said she would take the chicken off the bill, but charged me for the salad. Very little of which I ate. Seriously. Not a clue what s going on with the person cooking their protein and I desperately want To be able to go there and to be able to order something other than the steak frites, onion soup or the beef Bourgogne and trust that it won t be overcooked, but they have not been instilling much confidence lately. ( $18-20 pours for a 7oz glass of wine is essentially Manhattan. ) Wouldn t mind so much if everything else was consistently good. It s not.
Beautiful and cozy restaurant. Great service and ambience. Food was very good, nice presentation and decent prices. Make sure you have a reservation as it s very popular and gets really busy. I highly recommend it!
This restaurant appears to position itself as a french restaurant, there are ways they do well and ways they don t. I ll skip the fact that they gave us the plates and came back to take them away after a minute or two, because they mixed up the tables. I ll consider this an exceptional mistake that was not politely handled and also very strange. Things they do well: the waiters are friendly and responsive. The food is tasty. The overall ambiance is good. There is a good selection of kid meals. Things they can improve: there was no bread on the table for a french restaurant! Have they been to France!? We asked for some bread and they said we had to ask for it to get some. Again, have they been to France!? Then they said they might have run out of bread (right after serving bread to the table next to ours) but if they are some left they ll bring it well, well French restaurant already running out of bread by lunch time Enough with the bread now. One of my kids spilled her glass of water and they agreed to change the table cloth, but they came to do it after they brought all the plates, so it was too late. I asked for a steak frite, the most classic option of French bistrots. The steak was cooked to my request, but it was not a high quality steak, hard to cut through and to chew on. If it is a French restaurant, please make sure the quality of the food is good, that is what anybody would expect! The fries were good, although don t come too hungry, they don t put a lot of those. The mussels were good but won t make a meal. The piece of salmon was small. The pistou soup is a recipe I had not tried before. Not the typical pistou soup, but it was good. Overall, it is an Ok restaurant, but there is still a long way for me to call it a French restaurant.
This has been one of my all time favorite restaurants for over 20 years for a reason. The quality of the food and service are always top notch and I love the atmosphere. I do have one warning, the Duck Confit Poutine will become the benchmark that all other poutines are judged against and most of them will not even come close.
Best poutine in Burlington.
I had begun to think real professional servers no longer existed that is until Lauren came to our table. Never mind the food, the location and the ambience all of which speak for themselves; it was just so darn refreshing to have a pro wait on us!
Everything great
Beautiful surroundings and exquisite dining choices. Ambiance was relaxing and service was prompt and friendly. Loved our lunch choices. Would go again.
Great food and friendly, attentive staff. Cant wait to go back!
Always amazing! For years Leunigs has been my go-to. In-between all of the try this place, or that place, this place never fails to provide an excellent experience. The calamari is the best in Burlington, and the early Bistro specials are an unbeatable value. Staff are always welcome and service is top notch.
Cozy atmosphere, really tasty food.
Truly one of the best experiences that my wife and I have ever had. We wandered in after being turned away at a few places. They had two seats at the bar and we met the friendliest and most attentive bartender named Matt. The food was incredible and they were able to accommodate my wife s allergies. All and all, a wonderful experience and we will be back again soon.
Excellent coffees, and the table next to us featured a couple who were trying to literally suck each others faces off!
Overpriced menu. Filet Mignon came over cooked with 100 other things on the plate, it looked like a landfill. Burger was 32 bucks comes with Foie Gras (which they probably add just to up charge a basic cheese burger) and it was flavorless and just bland and was cooked inconsistently . Onion Soup and Créme Brûlée was pretty good.
Food was very good. We were on 2nd floor. Atmosphere is good. Service was a little slow but they were packed and its 2nd floor so that might not help. Its on the main strip. Parking not great in the area. I would Def go back if in the area. Vegetarian options: They have some options Kid-friendliness: Its more of an adult vibe so young kids its going to be loud.
The cheesecake is unusually light which makes it delightful. This might be my new favorite cheesecake.
Our waitress was amazing! A person in our party is allergic to garlic. She went above and beyond to help us find options that the person could eat. Food was great! This was the second time I have ever been there and will go again sooner rather than later!
What an outstanding place for drinks upstairs and dinner in a French bistro style surrounding. The food was absolutely delicious and the onion soup and salad that we shared to start our meal was exceptional. The drinks and service were all just perfect as well. We had the Beef Bourgogne and the filet. Everything was just perfect.
This was the best meal I have had in a long time! I had the salmon with boursin, spinach, and garlic mashed. It was fantastic, every bite. I cant wait to go back again. The steak frites and curry mussels were also amazing. They even had a vegan dessert that was yummy. The restaurant is bustling and has a decore like a French bistro. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. Arrive a bit early to find parking near by.
5 stars for martini, poutine, service. 3 stars for bourguignon
We ve been eating at Leunig s once or twice a year for over 30 years (we live in VT but not in Burlington area). Over the years we have experienced uneven results in terms of food quality and service. Have to say that last night s dinner was one of the best Leunig s experiences ever. The Boursin and rye crusted salmon was fantastic as was the Provençal fish stew. Service was also excellent and you can t beat the atmosphere especially in the bar area.
Definitely worth stopping in!! Great atmosphere with friendly servers!
Love the place, love the ambience up front(best place to sit), food mostly top-notch but whats with the tiny(and i mean tiny)steak and the sullen server Matt who acted as though he was doing you a favor by saying hello?? order the pasta with chicken instead and ask for the fabulous woman who greets you at the door, she is a keeper!
Very reliable place. Excellent food
Wonderful people and great place for hanging out. The menu is very hit or miss, though. I think it depends on the chef, but Ive had 2 star through 4 star meals here. Never exceptional, 50% coin toss if you get a good chef or not. Good luck. Go for the atmosphere, risk the food. The poutine and steak frites seem to be the most reliable after a dozen or so visits.
Leunigs is awesome
This restaurant is one of my favorites and definitely worth the ferry ride over! The hostess put my date and I in an open window seat, and it was marvelous! The food and drinks were fresh and delicious, service was attentive and friendly. Food : 5/5
We had a great lunch at Leunig s. Everything we had was very good, especially the onion soup, and the staff were great! Definitely would return.
I enjoyed the Cavatappi Carbonara very much (pictured). The service was superb. We were lucky to seat a large party without reservations relatively quickly; even though at two nearby tables. I would say they are geared more for intimate dinners vs group dinner parties. That said I know they can accommodate such a thing with proper reservations!!
Great food especially If you go 4-5 pm there is a deal for soup and an entree for 24$. Staff were attentive and accommodating.
Parisian style bistro, excellent! Burata salad recommended 100%.
We love Leunigs - the food and service are always top notch!
Good French bistro even if some of the classics are twisted versus their original recipe. We had lunch in the afternoon thanks to the all day dining Service was professional A good option while in Burlington
Great stop for a creamsicle, or a coffee, or both
Very busy place. Staff is absolutely fantastic.
Food was not great, the steak knives couldn t properly cut the meat, everything just seemed over priced. We were basically pushed against the table next to us so we had no personal space and it was just uncomfortable.
Didn t get a chance to enter because the restaurant cancelled our reservation, told by the manager that they were overbooked for the evening.
2nd time over there, 1st one was last December for my daughters birthday (dinner). This time for lunch. Great bistro food, good drinks ans beer and wine selection. Excellent service.
I love coming to this restaurant! The service is excellent! My favorite thing to get as an appetizer is definitely the white truffle fries!
Food was good. A bit too much fruit on the cheese plate and too little cheese. The pea soup was very tasty. Service was haphazard and disorganized. Midway through our meal we were abandoned by our server. No contact for about 45 minutes. We had to walk up to the bar and request the check. We learned that our original server had passed her tables to someone else but they were never notified and more than one table sat waiting for service.
A little warm on a 90 degree July night but food top notch! I wish I took pictures. Delicious scallops and tenderloin! Morgan was fantastic as our server! We are fortunate to be local and will continue to return!
Delicious French bistro in the heart of downtown Burlington. Start with the cheese plate and have some Beef Bourgogne.
Stopped here for lunch outdoors on market street. The duck poutine is fantastic (highly recommend)! Also had their calamari, good, but the poutine was the star of the appetizers. The angus burger and roast beef sandwich was also good, but we found ourselves continously grazing on the poutine. Our server was awesome and you cant beat lunch outdoors on the street market. Awesome place to eat!
Leungs is a fixture in downtown Burlington. Its known for its good food and unique atmosphere. It also enjoys a reputation for treating its employees well. I appreciate and respect these attributes. As I age into a curmudgeon, there are aspects Im less fond of. Mostly that every inch of space is used and I felt cramped. It didnt bother me twenty years ago, but I didnt enjoy it this time. We were also in one of the street-side tables. I used to love these tables, but found them too loud and I felt like a fish in a tank. Mind you, this was not to take away from the wonderful food or the very good service. Maybe I wasnt ready for a trip to a Paris bistro....I still like spending my limited dining-out budget at Leungs.
Slow service, not very attentive. Portions look decently sized but mostly because of side salads. Meat portions are small (beef bourguignon) and dry. Nothing mind-blowing, only thing worth getting was the French onion soup.
I had a good time around a good meal in a very friendly place, I recommend!
Just bad customer right off the bat with the hostess stand. Poor communication and they proceeded to argue with me rather than just apologize for the mistake that was made, I work at a restaurant and it s just funny to see such poor customer service right from the start.
Great service. Fast delivery to the table. Nice taste.
Leunig s is always great! Delicious food, nice atmosphere and the best service. At times they have live music and it s conveniently downtown located. I ve tried pretty much everything on the menu and somehow now I order the same pictured items. As for appetizers and drinks (not- pictured) escargot is delicious and Maple Bourbon Sour among my favorites. Kid-friendliness: All welcome!
Had a fantastic seared tuna salad!
Great service and great food. The dinner special before 5pm is stellar. Be sure to either book ahead or swing by before 5 to catch a table; place can fill up quickly. Would recommend the salmon and be sure to save room for dessert
Our wilaitress was awesome and it was the BEST streak I have ever had!!!!!!!
had oysters and escargo- hate to say it wasn t fresh.. had to be covered with cheese and oil to make up- not to mention the after service tax tip. should be prior to service before implementing tip
Leunigs Bistro right on Church Street, their to-go outdoor Petit Bijou on Church Street right in front of their legendary restaurant, and their newer sister-cafe and bakery in Shelburne, Le Marche, are absolutely professional, reliably consistent, hospitable, and delicious every-single-time!!! One of the oldest restaurants in Burlington. Much love to this team. thank you!
Wouldn t recommend this place to anyone. The food is subpar, and the service is even worse. We ordered two caesar salads and an onion soup and were extremely disappointed at what we received. Given the price tag, we definitely were not expecting to receive 4 unchopped leaves of lettuce on a plate along with a cold piece of chicken. Our server Crystal was also quite rude. When she asked us if we would like some dessert, we responded no thank you, just the bill please to which she replied figured you d say that, here s the bill and aggressively tossing said bill on the table. She then loudly dropped our dishes in the bin near behind the bar. Maybe she thought we didn t order enough food, or maybe that was just the general vibe of the restaurant but needless to say, save your money and find somewhere else to eat.
Excellent dinner with very good value as we had the Early Bird Special...salmon cooked perfectly, Lisa, our waitress, was a darling! Competent, friendly but extremely professional, an obvious true asset to the Restaurant! Highly Recommend the salmon, tomato jam and wilted baby spinach, delish ! Australian Travellers...
Lovely bistro in Burlington - wonderful atmosphere, top notch service, and you can t go wrong with anything on the menu. Dietary restrictions: They offer several gluten free (celiac safe) options!
The duck fries and garlic mashed potatoes were Heavenly. Everything we had was so good.
Holy cow talk about an absolute smorgasbord of flavors. I ordered the breaded chicken with peaches dish. We got the steak and shrimp app and of course, some fries. We sat outside under their cover while it rained. Little loud ambience but to be expected. The service was nice and pleasant. We were greeted with a smile and positive attitude. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely.
Enjoyed our meal. Sat on the 2nd floor. Great service.
This place was fantastic.
Amazing food, above-and-beyond service, great outdoor dining options. A Burlington gem of undimmed luster.
Lovely place. Interesting menu. Unfortunately, I sat at my table for 20 minutes without anyone checking on me so I had to leave. Very disappointed. I was looking forward to dining here.
First the staff at the door weren t nice I saw 2 empty tables for 2 on the first floor I requested them yet she insisted they were reserved and sent us to the second floor. Our server up there hardly acknowledged us, he was so unfriendly, when we asked him for the machine to pay, he said oh I have to bring over here I m not sure what he was expecting!! On my way out I said thank you to him and he gave me a wry smile and no response. The food was okay, the salmon was overcooked and it was overpriced. My husband and I were celebrating my birthday but we both left feeling angry with the rude service, really spoiled it for us. Would not recommend.
Leunigs is popular in Burlington and for good reason - good food/service and the early bird special cant be beat.
This is the second time I ve been to Leunig s, and it did not disappoint. The incredible atmosphere, staff, and food make it one of my favorites, and a must-stop in Burlington. I had the maple scallops with bread pudding (amazing), and my companion had a seasonal salad with filet. It was all wonderful.
Outstanding dining experience. Great service from Daniel, delicious drinks from Rob. Food
Super staff. Great food
Vegetarian options: Cauliflower wrap was delicious Food
Service was fine under the circumstances. They seemed stressed and short staffed. Oysters Rockefeller were foul, the worst weve ever had. We asked for bread and instead of being told that they were all out, we were brought a basket of burnt rock hard butts that human teeth could not chew and told that it was the last bread in the kitchen. Water had ice for the first glass and then was subsequently topped off with tepid water, which was weird. Entrées were bland and sloppy, and my salmon meal was room temperature leaning toward cold. Perhaps we should have come earlier, but were from out of town, so we thought a 7:45 reservation on a Friday was a safe bet for an upscale date. Kind wait staff, beautiful decor, but at the end of the day a restaurant is about the food and I wouldnt eat here ever again even for free.
Great date night feast!
If theres such a thing as French Bistro comfort food in Vermont, this is the place to get it. This is our favorite goes to spot for lunch or dinner year in and year out. During busy times its difficult to get a reservation although sometimes they save spots for walk-ins. Outdoor dining on Church Street in season. Cant wait for its new sibling restaurant, Electras, to open down the road in Shelburne.
If you re staying in Burlington or passing by you must eat here at least once. The best executed meal my wife and I have had out in years. The atmosphere is great and the staff is attentive. Everything from apps to mains and desert were melt in your mouth delicious
Popped in for a light lunch, what a varied menu! Lots to choose from. We opted to share a cheese plate, well we re in Vermont! Very good cheese and fruit with plenty of crackers
One of my favorite restaurants. I come to Burlington once or twice a year and always make a point to eat here. Definitely get the Duck confit poutine.
Sat at the bar. The bartenders made me a drink I never had before called the Laphroaig Project. Had some delicious appetizers and the French Onion soup all fantastic.
Lively. Great service. Out of this world scallops.
Very cozy place that I enjoyed while I was travelling to Vermont. The setting and the staff are top notch. Very trendy
Celebrated my 65th birthday here with family and had a terrific experience -- as usual. Great attentive staff, tasty food, and the atmosphere is so special. Thank you, Leunigs. So glad you serve up such good food, and the panache of the place stays at the same level of excellence. I would come just for the creme brûlée!
Leunigs is always a great choice. Food is fantastic as well as the service. Try the pork ribeye, its awesome!
Food always tastes amazing! Id recommend just about anything on the menu, when available the Pumpkin chowder never disappoints. Service can be delayed on a busy night, but their in-house wine connoisseur can suggest a bottle to hold you over. Friendly staff, warm environment, great for a date night!
Food is mid, calamari s needs a little salt the horse radish sauce was good though, onion soup had more bread than soup, also I know what wedge salad is but this was romaine lettuce so I basically had to build my own salad.. cutting everything before eating .. their Cesar salad was really mayoieeee like lol too much Mayo .. service was great top tier but there were some people I felt was scared to serve me .. overall deserves a lower rating but the server was great so I can t do it lol
My favorite Burlington restaurant.
Great food and very attentive staff. We ate outside and it was very quaint. French onion soup was a delicious start to a fabulous meal.
Passing for the day in Burlington on November 22, 2022, given that this restaurant had a good reputation, we wanted to go there. There were 4 people in front of us waiting (2 separate groups). We said there were 3 of us and we were told there would be a 45 minute wait even though there was a table of 4 and tables of 2 free on the terrace. The worst thing was the way the man received us at reception, he was very stupid...In Quebec, this employee would have been kicked out (perhaps he was one of the owners ). So that he recognizes himself...in jeans, white espadrille, shirt, tie and coat. Unfortunately, I cant comment on the food, so its up to you to try it.
Would recommend the bistro special (4 to 5 pm Monday thru Saturday). Comes with a $6-glass of wine. We had the steak frites and the beef bourguignon. Both were pretty good but would go with frites if I would have to choose one. The creme brulee is amazing! Dietary restrictions: Many and good gluten free options.
Really quite lovely bistro. We sat upstairs. I had the filet but didnt enjoy everything on the plate. The cucumbers were strange, but the asparagus was good. Dessert was also good. The apple pie was a really big serving. The cocktails were creative and perfect. Morgan is an excellent server.
Literally my all time favorite restaurant!!!! Service was on point quality of food is INSANE. Ill be dreaming of the scallops for days ! Such a cute and cozy place. Prices are great for such good food. and you can tell it is just so well ran! Please go here you wont be disappointed !!!
Delicious food with good service. I loved the ambience and recommendations from the staff. I had been here years ago and the whole place was still just as good as I remembered it!
Great French Bistro on Church Street. Excellent food selection and variety of offering for anyone. Staff is very attentive a d helpful. Vegetarian options: Have at least 3 Plat principal that are vegetarian and flavorful.
Used to be excellent with uniquely delicious dishes paired with excellent service. Unfortunately, times have changed. Last time went (Jul. 2022), service was not good, ambiance lacking, food and menu limited and ho-hum. Tried again in Oct. and despite making reservations (which were confirmed at 12noon that day), found it CLOSED that evening due to COVID19), received no notice except by email, which didnt receive until later that evening. Sorry to have to change this formerly outstanding review to go elsewhere until the situation improves.
Went for lunch the duck was good the trio app was good the steak was weak and cheap. Not worth the money. The service was great until the end of the meal we waited for a To go box and the check. Still would give them another chance. The waitress was very nice and probably busy.
Funny enough the first place I ate in Vermont turned out to be my favorite. We decided to stop in after seeing how popular they looked from the outside. Really delicious food, great drinks, and awesome decor and ambiance. The duck poutine was my favorite.
Great place to stop in and grab lunch in Burlington. We had soup and split a sandwich. Great atmosphere and the food and service were on point.
Great food!
One of the fanciest places Ive been to!! It was SO good! I had never had that combination of flavors before coming here - they have a somewhat limited menu which allowed them to focus on the quality and creativity of each meal.
Best plate of food I ve had in a restaurant in a long time. Service was quick too
Been a long time since I last dined here. Excellent atmosphere, reliable dishes to eat from French influenced cuisines. Enjoyed starting with the pistou, which is rich with vegetables, pesto and grated cheese. I liked the pork porterhouse which is spice smoked maple dry rubbed pork with bacon & sharp cheddar Spätzle, sautéed spinach braised red cabbage with whole grain mustard & mushroom sauce. So filling and worth eating every bite. Great atmosphere, staff are friendly, wonderful beverage list, and kid-friendly menu as well as they provide crayons and activity sheet for kids to draw and do puzzles. Kid-friendliness: Kids can choose chicken fingers, burger, baked salmon with fries or vegetable. Paper on top of tablecloths is great for drawing on.
