399 Elizabeth St #8, Burlington, ON L7R 0A4, Canada
Canadiana themed restaurant focussed on excellent hand crafted cocktails, unique dishes and a cozy, campfire atmosphere.
Surprisingly better than we expected. The food is really good and they have many different cuisines as part of their menu, from tacos to baos, burgers, steak and all kinds of finger foods. We had a great time!
Highly recommend! Just left the patio! Great service- cocktails fabulous! Whiskey sour perfection… GIN drink cocktail! Now the food- wow! Sliders will be back! Brisket sandwich good portion and recommend
Excellent first time experience at this cozy establishment. We moved in the building next door and had to give it a try and let me tell you it was soo worth it. The service was excellent and the food was great. I added blackened chicken to my Brie and cranberry sandwich and it was unreal! 😋 We will be back soon. Highly recommend 👌👌👌👌
Enjoyed a delicious meal tonight on the patio at The North Coal! We got the Steak bowl and the Brussel sprouts and both were delicious and great flavour. Highly recommend both! They also have some ‘dockside’ specials from 3-6pm too!
A Hidden Gem in Burlington - A Must-Try Experience! My wife and I finally decided to visit The North Coal after hearing rave reviews from friends and noticing it numerous times while passing by. From the moment we stepped in, we knew we were in for a treat. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the service we received from Ally was absolutely top-notch. She was attentive, friendly, and made our dining experience truly memorable. The food was nothing short of outstanding. We started with the Korean Steak Bites, which were perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. For our main course, we shared a full rack of ribs that were so tender they practically melted in our mouths. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we finished our meal with one of the best Chocolate Brownies we've ever had. It was the perfect ending to an exceptional meal. The North Coal has quickly become one of our favorite spots in Burlington. If you're looking for delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere, this is the place to go. We'll definitely be back!
While nicely decorated and featuring a cozy atmosphere, the restaurant offers basic, unremarkable food and service. The flavours were average, nothing really memorable or disappointing. The staff was polite and the service was shy of acceptable. It's an OK spot, but nothing special.
We came in for lunch and sat inside. Nice decor, but it took a while for someone to approach us. We ordered the Caesar salad to start, the duck tacos, and the whisky steak bowl. The Caesar salad was good and so was the whisky steak bowl. Personally, the duck tacos were flavourful but so small (see photo with fork for scale). I left still hungry so I was a bit disappointed. If you're going to order tacos, it's not large enough for a meal so I would recommend an appetizer.
Great ambience and good food. The crispy brussel sprouts was some of the best we've ever had, and I'd go back just to order that. There's a lemony sweetness to it that takes it to a whole new level. The steak was cooked perfectly and was delectable, but the chimichurri honestly tasted like it was straight out of a store bought can. We were charged extra for truffle parm fries with the steak even though they served regular shoestring fries. The blackened chicken looks incredibly promising on the menu, but in reality, my piece of chicken was ridiculously tiny. I love a good coleslaw, and this one delivered in spades. The Smoked Maple Old Fashioned sounds great conceptually but fell short of our expectations. It definitely needed more smokiness.
manager and cook with glasses disgustingly racist towards POC, huddling over looking at my family and laughing at us
We had such a lovely evening dining at the North Coal. Our server, Reagan, was so attentitive and made great drink recommendations! What an absolute Diva.
I had the pleasure of dining at the North Coal recently, and I have to give a special shoutout to our server, Reagan. She was an absolute icon! From the moment we sat down, her energy, friendliness, and attention to detail made our entire visit unforgettable. She made perfect recommendations, ensured our drinks were always full, and somehow managed to make us feel like VIPs the entire time. She went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, and her upbeat personality genuinely elevated the whole experience. The food and drinks were fantastic, but honestly, it was Reagan who made our night. If you re lucky enough to have her as your server, you re in for a treat.
It was really nice lots of good food options. I had the french fries home made. We also had the pasta it was very nice tasting and pasta cooked perfectly .Its also nicely decorated and gives a warm feeling . Overall, we will be back . Vegetarian options: Not many. But you can find something theres salads
Loooved the atmosphere, food and service
Went there tonight with friends and was really looking forward to it from everything I heard. But right when we sat down we were told they ran out of beef and couldnt offer us sliders, beef brisket or burger. 3 items our party was planning on having. Also ran out of Molson Canaduan draft beer. Waitress was nice in offering us a free appetizer for our inconvienance - got warm ricotta- but only a few pieces of bread to dip. When we asked for a few more bread slices, we were told no problem but charged extra. Basically a $ 1 each for a small slice of bread. Disappointed because heard so many good things and encouraged our friends to join us.
Very good food, reasonable prices for the area, nice atmosphere, but horrible service. Food didn t come out for our table at the same time, follow up with waitress was 10 minutes after food arrived. Asked another server for condiments for my kid upon food arrival and she not only didn t get them but also didn t tell my server. Sat for 15 minutes after our table finished our meal waiting for a waitress, but no one came so I had to go inside and ask the hostess for our bill and the kids desserts packed up. The restaurant was at 50% capacity at when we were there and they had plenty of staff on duty. Sad birthday meal for my kid. Likely won t go back again although food and location are very good.
denied seating with an empty restaurant but checked on open table and there were 2 openings for the time I requested..
I ordered the Baffin burger and it was genuinely one of the best burgers OF MY LIFE! I loved it The dog friendly patio is amazing and the staff and servers we encountered were all so kind and amazingly helpful
Amazing experience. Went to celebrate our anniversary and it was made very special by the staff. Food was great. Slightly on the pricier side maybe. Great atmosphere, drinks and desserts too! Highly recommend. Parking: Close to city parking lot plus street parking - free after 6pm Monday-Saturday Kid-friendliness: High chair available Wheelchair accessibility: Spacious
Had the burger. Bun was ok but the patty was dry. Fries were too soft and a bit uncooked. Service was very slow, although servers were polite and nice. We were given one check at the end without asking and we actually wanted separate bills, so had to ask to fix it. Overall, food and service quality was not special at all and didn t meet my expectations.
Got the Baffin Burger and fries. The burger was really good and the fries were also pretty good
Food and drinks are always great, service is great and love the cozy atmosphere!
Great weekend lunch at a cool place in the heart of Burlington. We had the pulled pork banh mi and smoked duck tacos, which were delicious! Check this place out; highly recommended.
Do not come here if you are in a hurry. 40 minutes to get apps. Over an hour to get our mains on a Thursday lunch. It was not very busy either. I only saw 1 cook and he cant cook steak. I ordered Blue rare steak and frites and I got a medium steak. My daughter ordered a medium steak and she got a well done steak. ( these were not even close) we didnt complain because we didnt want to wait another hour for replacements. The apps were delicious. We had 3 different apps. All were well liked. My wife had Salmon for dinner and she loved it. My Son had a burger and he enjoyed it. After our meal we waited another 20 minutes for the bill. I cant say Id ever go back but it nice to try it once.
City cottage vide, great decor.good food choices and great wed night meal n drink deal
All in all, great experience. Great value. Laiken, was kind and considerate to start with but also professional and exact. This was our first visit but we will come back for sure. Kudos to management it seems they are doing a good job to get such a good result over all
Can t really review, as there was no table free for 1 person at 19:15 on a Tuesday evening, and I wanted to dine in
Fantastic food!! Especially the crispy Brussels sprouts and sweet potato tacos. But the highlight was definitely our server Marcella (I hope this spelling is right!) She was attentive, kind, and helpful, and she gave such great suggestions! Seriously can t thank her enough for the most lovely dinner.
Had an amazing lunch with my mom. We loved eating on the pation and were impressed with the food and drinks.
My friends and I booked reservations on the app online for 6 people on patio for Friday evening. I booked this reservation a week prior with plenty of time. When I arrived for my reservation time the day of - unfortunately it was raining so the patio outside was closed.. but one would think they would then reach out to their reservations or try to accommodate them inside. Although I understand it s a smaller restaurant, the front hostess said unfortunately we did send you an EMAIL at 12pm TODAY stating the patio would be closed and indoor dining reservations are fully booked. 1. I worked all day and wouldn t think to check my email, I feel they should have a way better screening process as in a text or call communication for this situation because then my 6 friends and I were left to fend for a new reservation elsewhere. The hostess did say if the 7:30 reservation didn t show we could have their table but at that point we didnt want to wait in hopes so we left. Poor planning/communication on their part and I feel as though the app for booking shouldnt have patio/indoor options, it should be one general option so this doesn t happen to other people. Just be aware when booking outdoor reservation.
Stopped in here for a late lunch since we were in the area. Great, friendly service. It was Happy Hour and we ordered a couple drinks, wings, duck tacos and brisket sandwich. Everything was fantastic and delicious!
Best food we had in days. Lakin and Michael were . Guess who.
Excellent food and drinks, their brussel sprouts are my fav! Burger and sandwiches also delicious
Great food, fantastic service and reasonably priced!!
My mother hates many restaurants but she really enjoyed North Coal.
We had made reservations earlier in the week. Our party travelled 40 km and 5 minutes before our reservation, when we were parking the car, the restaurant phoned and cancelled on us because of rain. No room in the dining room. Dont take a reservation if you cant accommodate.
Watermelon, Feta and Mint was standard. Crispy Brussel Sprouts were good and had a touch of sweetness. Wouldnt get the wings or burger again, but they werent bad. Raspberry sorbet was very refreshing. Definitely worth checking out during happy hour.
Came here for a date, ended up going to another spot later to make up for the lacklustre experience. The setting was nice and cozy and we had our hopes up however we quickly realised their food was awful. We got the brisket sandwich and brie melt, and their prices had both increased then as advertised on their websites online menu. The brisket was tough and was not for me. whilst the brie melt had this jam that clashed against the brie and arugula and lacked balance in my opinion. Not to mention the brisket was lukewarm and fries soggy and some cold, seemed reheated, dissapointing. For small sandwiches that cost 20-30 dollars each I was expecting a much better meal. We came here excited to try good barbecue, this is not the place. I was still considering reccomending this place, given that the setting was nice-ish and it is possible that it might have been an off day or we might have ordered the wrong items. These hopes were dashed by the abysmal service. Not once did a waiter check on us after the food had been served. We waited 25 minutes for a waiter to notice us after we had finished our meals and when we got up and asked our waiter for the bill we waited another 15 minutes for the bill. Not only was the restaurant practically empt but they were overstaffed. The service here was practically synonymous with neglect and put the final nail in the coffin for our experience here. Thoroughly disappointed and unfortunately cannot reccomend. Sorry just wanted to note. We have only been once and simply may have ordered the wrong items, that being said I highly dissuade others from getting the items we ordered. The brisket on pretzel bun seemed microwaved, and the fries were downright atrocious. Some were cold, at best lukewarm and they were anything but crispy, somehow a mistake seems to have been made in the fries that appeared to be reheated?
Excellent food and service! Lots of options on the kids menu as well!
Our first time there and were already eager to return. It was a busy, sunny weeknight so we waited about 20 minutes and it was worth it. Full points for a great mocktail menu and getting my husband to eat brussels sprouts! We ordered a few things off the starter menu and were sufficiently full once done. Staff handled the busy night pretty well and were pleasant. Parking: Depending on time of day you can find free parking, otherwise like most downtowns, you pay but its not an unrealistic amount.
My recent attempt to dine at The North Coal at around 6:30 pm yesterday was met with disappointment before even being seated. Despite a noticeable number of empty tables, the waitress informed us that the wait time for a table was 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. It became evident that this was an exaggeration, as there were plenty of unoccupied seats. This interaction left a sour taste, and my family decided against waiting. While I can not comment on the food or service, the poor management of wait time reflects poorly on the establishments customer service level We went to the restaurant nearby Son of the Peach, and we got a table in 15 min even if it was busier there, and the dining experience was 5 stars Hope that my comments helps improving the experience at your restaurant
Nice restaurant in downtown Burlington off of Elizabeth near the Lakeshore. Nice patio. If you like Margheritas, might I suggest trying their Watermelon Margherita and also the blackberry Margherita. So fresh, so delicious! Went here with my 2 daughters to celebrate Mothers day. We enjoyed the cocktails and apps. All very good. Service was good, but started off slow. Marcella, our server took care of us and once she took our order, it was all good. Try the brussel sprouts with aioli, the Watermelon salad with Feta, arugula, and prosciutto, to die for. The Korean beef with fried wonton, so tender. And the power bowl, great for sharing with the apps. Will definitely return.
Not going to lie, upon seeing the 4.6 rating and plenty of positive reviews, I had high expectations for this establishment, but I left feeling disappointed. Let me explain in full excruciating detail, because I think management deserves to hear the feedback so they can have a chance to improve. My father wanted to treat me to a nice celebratory dinner for a recent personal accomplishment, so we chose here. Upon arriving, the hostess was very warm and pleasant in greeting and seating us. But thats where things started to falter. Normally a server should come over within a few minutes to introduce us to the menu and grab drinks, after which we would take a further look at the menu and order food when the drinks arrive 5-10mins later. This simply didnt happen. It took at least 15 minutes for us to have anyone visit our table, at which point we had already decided to order our food and drinks. We both ordered the 8oz steak frites, and asked to upgrade to the truffle parm fries for an extra $4. I then ordered a certain beer, and was told that particular one wasnt in stock, so I went with a similar replacement, no sweat. Relatively harmless blights, maybe the floor was busy when we arrived, and it was a Sunday evening so maybe kegs arent restocked until a weekday. After about 10mins, our server brings out our beers and clarifies with us, so which appetizer did you order again? checking some messy handwritten notes. We say no app, just the steak frites and beers, she looks at her notes again and says ok good thats what I have here, but wasnt sure. We assumed the truffle parm fries were there in her notes, so we didnt go the extra mile of mentioning that again as we were only asked about an appetizer. But then after a further 10+ mins of waiting after ordering, a different server comes over to inform us that the 8oz steaks we ordered werent actually in stock, and that they only had 6oz steaks, but that they would discount our bills appropriately for the replacement (we werent told how much, and obviously didnt ask). I would have paid up for a larger 12oz size, but only the 8oz was listed on the menu so I had no choice. We were quite hungry, and quite frankly didnt want to be one of those guests who act picky, so we accepted the offer and assumed all would be fine, the food must be tasty enough and hey, it would be discounted too, sweet. Next time, Ill know to just order something else. Another 15mins for our food to be prepared, and when it came out, boy I was disappointed. We got the equivalent of kiddie child steaks, accompanied by a 3/4 full plate of normal fries. No parmesan or no truffle oil. So much for that, I guess that was lost in transmission. The food was alright. I mean, the steak was tasty but overcooked. I asked for medium-rare and received medium-well, with little juices or pinkness to it. And I probably ate it in 5 bites too. So much for dinner. The fries tasted authentic for restaurant shoestring style, but its a shame thats what stood out from our meal. We were still hungry, but figured wed wrap things up and get ice cream elsewhere downtown. When handed the bill, I did the math and was shocked to find that our discount was a measly $3, from $28 to $25... Are you kidding me? We received 25% less portion than what we ordered and a meal we left hungry from after waiting almost an hour for, but paid $80 (plus tip) for it. Wow. Way to celebrate, huh? As mentioned, I had much higher hopes that a Canadian branded restaurant with solid reviews would surely have large portions, homestyle service and an honest feeling, but we only left feeling rinsed. I still want to like this place, trust me, perhaps I will return for the ribs that I was coveting as an alternative to the mini steak, but Im not convinced yet if Im going to have a repeat experience as last time. Hopefully management takes the time to read this and work out the kinks but yeah, this was merely okay for me on my first visit and fell short of expected restaurant standards.
Place closes too early. Overpriced food in my opinion.
It was my first time visiting this restaurant with my boyfriend tonight..after reading all the hype reviews about The North Coal..id thought tonight would be great for a date night...the food was ?? My ceasar salad had a few brown stalks?? Plus where was the bacon???...our drinks were great..he had a ceasar..while I Had a Bonfire Margarita.. I was surprised how small the menu listing was??? Not the greatest experience..plus we waited 15mins to pay the bill...waiting for our srver return...we got the mgr attention... This will be a first and a last visit..
We noticed that North Cole had Tacos on their menu and decided to give them a try. We were unable to sit on the patio as all the tables were full. We decided to eat in the restaurant and were seated promptly. Nicely decorated in the Cottage theme. The server was very welcoming and efficient. We had the Smoked Duck Tacos , Three Tacos loaded with tasty Duck slices, pickled onions and sauce. The Tacos were delicious, very generous size as well. Also ordered the Parmesan and Truffle fries. All around Great food, service and decor. Well be back soon.
What an amazing spot. The drinks were delicious and a bit different from the norm. The food was well plated and so very yummy And the atmosphere was cottage chic! All in all a great time out. Would 100% come back here anytime!
Had a great time celebrating a birthday last night. The staff and especially GM Danielle were amazing. Will be back for sure!
Michael is a heartbeat here. Seriously. You are so professional. I was super pleased to be served by you. I live in Hamilton. I Will be back.
Food was OK for the price. Service was very slow and I could see the food was ready and not run out to table. So I timed it it sat under the lamp and the server saw it and did other things. It finally got brought out. Its an ok place if you arent in a rush and like room temeprature food.
Had an amazing experience with some friends at North Coal. Such a cozy atmosphere. Service was top notch. The manager Danielle was wonderful. Cant wait to go back.
Really awesome vibe. Hopefully next time the kitchen reno will be done so all menu items are available. We went for the love music.
Probably one of my new favourite places in Burlington! Our server was extremely knowledgeable and was able to provide recommendations based on the dietary concerns of my party. 10/10.
Wings were fried .so crispy. Small and tasteless.food very expensive. And location was great but very difficult to find parking.Reagan was very
Kathleen was the best server we ve had in years. She was so attentive, knowledgeable of the menu, and just an overall sweetheart. My mom could not stop raving about her! Thank you Kathleen for the exceptional service on Mother s Day. You were absolutely amazing. Food was exceptional as well. Get the Brussels sprouts you will not be disappointed
Came here for lunch. I ordered the quinoa salad and added chicken. I was rather disappointed- the chicken was dry and slightly burnt and the portion was small. The total with tax and tip came up to a whopping $43 (+ tap water) and still hungry afterwards.. I remember coming here a year or so ago for dinner and the price was decent and portion size was forgiving. I understand the cost of everything has gone up over the recent years but $40+ for a salad with chicken (and tap water)... I wont be returning.
We went on a Wednesday around 8pm. The place was decently busy which was nice to see. We ordered 2 apps (cauliflower and roasted red pepper dip) which were both good. Good size, good flavour. The mains left something to be desired. I ordered the steak frites. Steak was cooked as requested but the meat was tough and the rub was lacking major flavour. In addition the menu says shoestring fries but we were just given regular fries. My friend got blackened chicken which was dry. Not sure we would come back given the mains. Maybe we will try again in a couple years to see if quality has improved.
This morning I booked a reservation online for this evening and had the email confirmation saying I was booked indoors with standard seating. 3.5 hours later they called me and said because I booked outside I would have to reschedule my dinner time. I told them that this was not true, and then escalated to their manager, who then told me that our indoor reservation was moved by their system to outside (it is calling for rain so I specifically booked INDOORS.) They told me I d need to reschedule to a time slot earlier or after 8pm, because their patio is closed due to weather, which will not work for us. Despite their error in booking, they told me there was nothing they could do. They then cancelled my reservation. What is the point of booking something indoors online if they are going to change it on you without your knowledge, move you to something more convenient for THEM, and then say there is nothing they can do for you and cancel what was supposed to be a special night for us. Their system was in error and yet now the prospective customer is the one inconvenienced? Don t bother booking online here as it is pointless.
Vegetarian options: There is a vegan option on the new menu, although it doesnt actually appear on the menu. It was rice, beets, sweet potatoes, peppers and a watermelon kimchi. It was delicious! My husband was also pleased with his teriyaki chicken sandwich on naan. The cocktails were very nice and you just cant beat the vibe of this place, especially on a gorgeous patio day! Will be back
Amazing Food and service , we had brisket sandwich and rigatoni pasta
Pretty great location. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. They are very welcoming and kid friendly spot. The parm truffle fries, sliders, brisket sandwich was very good and filling. We got a grilled cheese with fries for the little one.
What a great restaurant. Going here for a meal is an easy choice. The menu is small but its not lacking in variety. The food selections are masterfully created to have a unique, complex and delicious flavor. The food is presented well and the portions are just perfect. The staff are amazing at their job. They can answer any question you might have about the menu and provide suggestions to help you decide what to order. Theyre fast, friendly and stop back to make sure everything is to your satisfaction without being in the way. Choosing to go to The North Coal is the easy part of the decision for eating here. Choosing just one item for your meal will be the hard part.
Went here for the first time with a few friends for a dinner date. Food was great, drinks were very good and the overall experience was great.
If you want a affordable dinner/lunch this is a great option. Interesting looking place with a friendly staff. One thing I noticed was the online menu not being a 1:1 replica to the food the portions are smaller than what I was expecting but irregardless the food was still tasty. Highly recommend the Rigatoni.
Brussel sprouts and breaded cauliflower for appetizers - both terrific. We had the blackened chicken as well as chicken on naan for main course. Both were excellent. Service was outstanding.
I can honestly say that today I had the best Back Ribs and I ve dine in Texas before but this smoked full rack ribs was far better and tastier. I also had the raspberry gin cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. My family had salmon, salads, and brownies which all tasted good. Amazing staff and our server Laiken was amazing, professional, kind, and accommodating to our kids and their food. I recommend this place 100% and will go back there again.
My fiancé & I stopped by here for our 3 year anniversary dinner. Absolutely amazing! The menu is not big but this place is definitely QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. Our portion sizes were perfect. We started with garlic parm pretzel bites. My salmon dish was perfection! And we had a side of whiskey charcoal chicken wings. Amazing! We will be back again!
The North Coal is an absolute gem in downtown Burlington! The ambiance of the restaurant is simply delightful, offering a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience and pays to Canadian heritage! I had their Cajun chicken sandwich, bursting with flavor and perfectly seasoned. My girlfriend opted for the steak and rice bowl, which was equally divine. The quality of the food exceeded our expectations, and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend True North Coal for anyone seeking delicious cuisine in a charming atmosphere.
The food was very good, as was the service. Will definitely go again.
Four of us went here to catch up and enjoy some good food. It took the waitress 45 minutes to attend to us after we sat down but we were in no rush so figured she was busy and would give her her space and she ll attend when she was available. When the waitress made it over to us we ordered our first round of drinks and four appetizers. By the time the appetizers came out we ordered a second drink each. Everything was absolutely delicious, and great portions. We were having an awesome time. When the waitress came over again we went to order entrees and she mentioned that she needed the table 30 minutes from now. There was zero way we could have our entree delivered on time yet alone have time to eat it too. We were so upset that she did not tell us there was a two hour limit on the table. Especially since it took her so long to tend to us. We ended up cancelling our third drinks, and entrees and moved over to a place few doors down where we had an incredible time. While we were there we planned to return, planned on telling others but unfortunately due to the experience / service we received we don t plan to return. Lastly when she brought the bill which took almost 30 minutes it was completely wrong but we didn t feel like arguing due to lengthy manner and just went with it.
I was very impressed by the care given to a customer who had fallen and cut his brow outside The North Coal Kitchen and Bar. The kitchen staff immediately jumped to his aid. The manager and the hostess showed solid compassion and problem solving skills. I am sure with kind, conscientious folk such as these the food will be excellent.
I dont know what happened to this place. I used to come here and always had a good time. I might not return after today. Food took over an hour to come, mine came wrong. The another 15 minutes waiting and nothing. I called it a day. If it were not for the server this would have been an even worst experience.
Fantastic lunch. We had the bourbon brisket sandwich.
A pleasant dining experience! I was a bit disappointed that they did not have the Cauliflower Steak that shows up here on the menu. Perhaps this is an old menu that suggests that we should always check the restaurants website to see what they currently have on the menu. There are only a couple of vegetarian options that contain a reasonable amount of protein. I had the soup of the day and the Truffle Parm Fries that were both quite tasty. Great service and welcoming! The mood and decorations are very cozy and comfortable. Will definitely go back, albeit my vegetarian diet.
Love this place. Never disappoints!
Love this place! Food, service, drinks and atmosphere are always awesome! Highly recommend if you re looking for dinner or drinks in the downtown area.
Brussels sprouts are great!
We enjoy the comfortable, warm ambiance of The North Coal, food is always delicious & served with friendly staff!
Delicious food ! Whiskey Steak Bowl was top class. Would love to come back again
Food was so amazing here! We had the duck tacos, roccota cheese spread and the cauliflower bites, honestly couldnt choose which one was my favorite. My wife an I split all of this and were stuffed! Really good portion size, staff was super friendly. Only thing that I didnt like was how close the tables are, but with how small the place is I guess its understandable lol Would definitely come back again.
Went to the North Coal for a valentines celebration with family and we had a great time! Great drinks ,great service ,great food , thank you Kayla and staff ! Always a pleasure
Cozy & comfortable atmosphere, great food, creative drinks.
Really cozy restaurant with an interesting menu, yummy food, and creative drinks. Ally provided excellent service all night, well definitely be back for more!
My husband and I recently went to The North Coal for dinner on a Friday night. Our waitress was perfect. Honestly, the best service we ve have since pre-covid. Food (hand helds) were very tasty. Recommend!
Had lunch here on Sunday with my family. Service was wonderful. Food was delicious. Cocktails were refreshing. Will definitely come back. Thank you. Kid-friendliness: Had a 2 year old and 3 year old running around and staff was great. They even put a movie on for them on one of the tv screens.
Always have such a fantastic time here. Service is spectacular. Dietary restrictions: My boyfriend has a gluten intolerance and they accommodated all our needs. Food : 5/5 |
Cozy place Great food, had the Baffin burger Food
Great food and service. Thanks Erin.
And the crowd goes mild!! Service is great here but the prices for items are off the charts.
Great dinner and fantastic service here. I was disappointed they got rid of the Donair but pleasantly surprised by the brisket burger! My kids went nuts for the ribs! This place seemed to be much better refined and consistent than previous visits! Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly!
Meant to write a review of this restaurant months ago. The vibe is so cozy and the servers that work here are amazing. Super nice and good at what they do. My mother-in-law spilled a glass of wine on her son and everyone came running super quick even a patron sitting at the bar! (hence the reason we paid his bill) Food was awesome and great value. Highly recommend and a much better experience than Honey West.
2 words! Brussel sprouts! So good! I have been to the North Coal and it never disappoints! Great food, great customer service and great vibe!
Ordered Brussel Sprouts, Duck Taco and Gnocchi.. Sprouts too sweet, no acid or salt...bland..was told that they are training new kitchen and thank us for feedback, and our $$ no doubt... Gnocchi were bland. Taco were alright, but tiny- our servers words. duck was good $22 for 4 of that size unexceptable. Service, average. Drinks average. Not great, not bad, not worth the hype or return as there are many other places of similar cuisine to try
Great vibe. Great food. Grey staff.
My husband and I went to North Coal after reading reviews online. Unfortunately our experience didn t match the hype. The server was friendly and we ordered two of their goat cheese burgers with fries. The burger looked good except the patties were burnt and for $22, I d expect a smash burger, not a dense patty. The fries were over-salted and had at least ten that had grey/black marks on them from bad potatoes. The decor in the dining area is cute with an upscale Canadian cabin feel but the bathrooms - especially the sink was outdated - circa 1990 s. It s like they did a quick partial bathroom reno and called it a day. This was just a meh experience. Hambrgr in Hamilton is the place to go for a superior burger.
This place is so comfortable & perfect for date night. Drinks were the best part. Not a whole lotta options for food but it s good to just try for first time. The waitress staff were very nice and did not make you feel rushed.
Where do I start? Last night we came in with a group of 10 of us. They were incredibly accomodating to our group. The food was delicious & the drinks too. The service was by far the best service we have had as a large group, our server was very attentive & handled our rowdy bunch very well. The manager even came over and did a check on us. Honestly, everything from start to finish was superb. Thank you so much, we will be back for sure, recomend to everyone! A+++++++++
Not a great experience. The burger patty was pretty skinny but the flavours were good. The fries were limp frankly and my wife was not too impressed with her warm (not noted on the menu) quinoa salad so returned it and got greasy wings.
Great gathering place. Friendly staff especially our server Erin. Will definitely return. Vegetarian options: We had appetizers & wine to catch up with our mutual news. Brussels Sprouts were amazing as well as the lettuce wraps. Both vegetarian!
Had the chance to enjoy lunch at North Coal yesterday. We don t get there often but when we do, we are Never disappointed. They change up the menu often enough to keep it interesting. And I ve never had a bad meal. We shared the lettuce wraps and the spinach and hummus wrap yesterday. Highly recommended. Especially for anyone not eating meat or just eating less. Super satisfying and very tasty! Service has always been good. Yesterday, Aidan kept that experience consistent with top shelf service. Looking forward to coming again when we can. Vegetarian options: I don t eat meat and my husband is eating less lately. Great options here.
Where to start well, the food was mediocre. The dip was pretty good, however our burgers were mostly flavourless. The patties were more or less burnt. The most egregious thing was the service. It took forever to get our cheque, server wouldn t even make eye contact when checking us out, it was very odd. The big thing was we never got water, thought oh you might have to be explicit , however every other table had water. The main differentiator between us and them was we are people of colour. Hard to say this is why, however the whole experience being so different than these reviews makes us wonder. I would urge you to stay away, not really worth feeling like you re being discriminated against for mediocre food. I might be willing to feel discriminated against for good food but these guys wouldn t know what that is.
Cute location downtown Burlington. When you walk in, it is cozy and modern. I like that they have TVs running video of cabin and fireplace scenes, its charming. Thats kind of where it ends, though. The service and the food were mediocre. Their Baffin burger was overcooked, dried, and without a lot of flavor. Unfortunately, it was recommended by the server... the company I was with did seem to enjoy their food, however. The duck tacos were my favorite part, though they could use more meat. The flavor was delicious, and the texture was just right. The waitresses took a long time to check on the table, and the food took forever to deliver. My aunts food was also cold when it got delivered. This could be a good place for a cocktail and the patio, but otherwise, I would find another location for food. Overpriced for the quality.
Im surprised with all positive reviews. The experience was average at best. The food was good but not exceptional. The service was very subpar. The server was slow and the restaurant barely had people in it. Would not return.
Highly recommended. Food and service were fantastic Food : 5/5
Fantastic drink selection!
service was slow, food was just ok. Black tape covering holes in ceiling, washroom in disrepair
Nice ambience, a bit loud but nice, food spareribs very good, burgers and power bowl too
Ok. I ve been here twice so I feel like I can give a fair review now. The first time I was not impressed, I found the food really bland and insanely overpriced. Our server was nice but so slow. But I kept seeing these high reviews so I thought maybe they had an off day. Cut to yesterday, I recommended we go to this place to a couple friends from Toronto. I ve realized that this place just isn t good they ve fallen victim to the same issues that all the downtown Burlington restaurants do. They have a great location and they think that will carry them through a bland menu. None of us were impressed with the food and I honestly couldn t believe how much our bill was for what we got. The service was also very slow as well, but our waitress was nice and trying her best. I feel bad leaving this review because it s hard to run a restaurant, especially now, but it s also hard for consumers and I think it s important that they feel like they received value for what they spent, and I just don t have that feeling after visiting here twice.
Reached around 8 pm and was told the food would take some time so we waited. Around 9 pm they told us again that the food would take some time so we thought it would come within a few minutes. I received my food at 10:10 pm and it was cold and stale. Although they covered the bill, the whole situation was unacceptable. We were out on a Friday night celebrating and had our night ruined. Very bad experience overall.
My sister and I went there for dinner and we had an amazing time. The decor is very chic, our waitress Kayla (and the rest of the team) were amazing. We both got the Whisky Charcoal Burgers, Wings, and Truffle Fries. The food was absolutely incredible. And the Whisky Charcoal Burger was the best burger we ve had in a long time. As a non-drinker I also really loved that hey had a set of alcohol free cocktails too! It was an incredibly busy night but the team was super friendly and courteous and accommodated us when we had to jet out early to tend our dogs. Huge thanks to the team for a great night.
We went there to celebrate an occasion with family. We placed the order and waited for an hour. After an hour we were told that there is a slight delay and orders are taking a little longer. Appetizers arrived 90 min after the order. Nearly two hours after we placed the order, we were told that it will still take 5-10 mins more but our appetizers are covered by the resturant. It was quarter past 10 and we had no choice but to wait as most of then places would have been closed. Finally the food arrived. We ordered 2 burgers and a truffle. Burgers and fries were cold which was unbelievable since we had been waiting for two hours. We left the food unfinished. The manager told us that the resturant has taken care of our bill. There was little consolation in that. We traveled 45 mins to get there to celebrate an occasion but our night was ruined..never coming back here
Weve been here several times now, and will continue to come back. The food is flavourful, and fantastic quality. We will keep coming back. Love the cozy, cottage atmosphere. Highly recommended!
The North Cole is my favourite restaurant in downtown Burlington. They were so busy last night but the food was good and the service was amazing! We can t wait to go back! Vegetarian options: Lots of great vegetarian options to choose from!
I ve come here a lot with friends and family since this place has opened and it s become a staple for us. We came in last night when sat were told there would be a wait for food (we expected this due to the sudden weather change) and could see they were obviously backed up in the kitchen. Having worked in this industry I understand sometimes things happen that we cannot control. Our food took longer than we are used to, but we were not charged and always come for the atmosphere and drinks. Thanks to the staff for always taking care of us and we understand having a bad day!! We will be back soon!
Had the best dinner at north coal tonight! The entire front of house was incredible, even though they were really busy they made every effort to be accommodating and kind. Shout out to Emma for being incredible. Overall great experience.
Had a spectacular dinner with my pals at the North Pole! opps I meant the North Coal! Didn t know what to expect rolling into the establishment but was pleasantly surprised! I had the Baffin Burger which was great and i m a big fan of the smoked old fashioned, our server Kaitlyn was super attentive. We will be coming back here to try out the patio
Great service and food!
Nice atmosphere and cozy! Food was tasty - husband has whisky steak bowl and I had the salmon!
Fantasic restaurant great atmosphere Fantastic waitress had great food well worth a visit Food
A couple of friends and I decided to try this restaurant last night, and we re glad we did. We started off by sharing the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which were to die for could have had these for my entree and dessert too! We all enjoyed our meals (ribs, salmon & basil chicken penne) and finished off by sharing the donut holes. The food was great, but our server Reagan made our dining experience so much fun! She was very interactive and had a good sense of humour. She knew the menu well, made recommendations, and followed up with us to see how we were enjoying our meal. We will definitely come back here again Thanks again to Reagan for a wonderful evening!
Great vibe! Loved the truffle gnocchi!
Are you from Niagara? This is the bar to go to in Burlington.
Food was just amazing
Love coming here and love their food. Patio is dog friendly and they have tons of seating. I love their brussel sprouts and the fire margarita this is our new favourite spot.
Sleepy service, poor food quality very bad restaurant
Service was okay but food was not great and also the menu is too limited and not the best quality
If youre looking for a great dining experience in Burlington, North Coal restaurant is definitely worth checking out. Kayla, the server, was absolutely fantastic and made our meal even more enjoyable. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Chicken Cajun Flatbread is another fantastic option that is sure to satisfy your cravings. The combination of flavors and textures in this dish is simply amazing, and I cant get enough of it. Overall, I highly recommend North Coal restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Burlington. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. I cant wait to come back and try some of their other dishes.
food, drinks, and service were all great
Went to north coal for drinks with friends on Friday night, Our server Kayla recommended the spicy blackberry margarita and the smoked maple old fashioned. Both spectacular!! Will be coming back for food soon!
Kayla was an amazing waitress took care of all our needs and made our dinner special! Food is great and drinks are awesome! Will be coming back.
I wish I could give more stars!! The vibe, the menus and the people are above and beyond. Ive always looked forward to celebrating milestones at North Coal! II love being the reason people get their first North Coal experience. My partner and I went for our first look at the new menu recently and its all we have been talking about since. Everyone that works there has always been so lovely but Kayla has the most incredible presence. Her personality and knowledge are super impressive. The vibe she brings to every experience is just so special. We always walk in hoping she is our server!!
The food was fantastic and my server Hilary was amazing!!
Had a lovely meal , and the waitress we had was exceptional. Thank you Hilary
I grab dinner at north coal every time I m in town for work. Food was amazing and Hilary was a great server!
First time here with friends.. So glad we ate here. For being as fussy as I am the menu was easy to read with lots of choices. The food came hot and full of flavors.. Food
Grabbed lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Friendly service. Tasty food. Had the coal salad. Really fresh ingredients and well grilled chicken breast. Good non alcoholic drinks. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Fun ambiance. Multiple screens with bonfires. Wood tables and walls feel cozy. The womens bathroom is clean and has 2 stalls. Several families with children and some couples. Bar area had a baseball game playing on a tv and a number of patrons were seated watching it.
Solid experience. The brisket sandwich was divine and the service was top notch. We will be back.
Was in recently and really loved this place. It had a great vibe and location. The food was great and service was also excellent. Robin was our server and made our experience that much better. Great humour. :)
Small menu, clueless, slow service and mediocre food. VERY mediocre. Its location is the only thing going for it. Weve been twice and both visits were a complete waste of time and money. Never again.
Amazing time. Such a festive vibe ! The patio is great and Brussels sprouts are a must !!! The bar tender makes fab cocktails empress me was my fav !!! Great veggie options too ! Our server , Robin was also great !
Stopped in while walking around town. Was lucky to have Robyn as our server who was prompt and knowledgeable! Great experience
Omg Robin!!!! Is the best and deserves a raise!
Robyn is so amazing!!! She made our night!!!
Robyn was such an amazing waitress! We all enjoyed our Muskoka Bowls and Robyn suggested the Cajun shrimp! Perfect experience and we ll be back.
I love this place! Always a go-to for me! Robyn has served us many times and is Always a knowledgeable and cheery Chick. She has great recommendations and we thoroughly enjoy when we get service from her. Overall love this little place with lots of goodness inside! Highly recommend poppin in. Vegetarian options: There is lots of Veggie Options Dietary restrictions: There is something for everyone.
My friend and I ordered fall off the bone ribs and they were definitely not fall off the bone. They were tough and did not have much meat on them. The Cesar salad we ordered looked like it had sufficient dressing but it lacked flavour. My other friend ordered a brisket burger and a good portion on it was just fat. That same friend ordered tacos as an appetizer and went to wash her hands before eating and there was no soap in the bathroom, she told the team and waited 5 minutes for them to address it, when she went back it still wasn t refilled so she had to resort to hand sanitizer. Lastly, we had to repeat things to our waitress multiple times, each time she came by the table and we ordered or requested something (food, an extra plate, cutlery, the bill) there was some kind of repetitive question on her end. I was surprised based on the high ratings the restaurant had when we chose it but there is definitely better options for the same price point. The atmosphere within the restaurant was probably the best part of the experiwnce
Tried this restaurant in downtown Burlington on the recommendation of a friend who resides there. It most certainly wont be the last time I visit as it was a fantastic experience. From being seated, taking our order and the food delivery was on point. As with almost all my reviews, its the staff who make or break the customer service experience for me. Here, the staff aspire to provide a superior customer experience. The food is even better - I had the Cajun Chicken on Naan bread with sweet potato fries and it was DELICIOUS! And I mean delicious!! If youre looking for a boutique experience with great food, great value and some of the best people in the business, this is a place you simply must check out. Beyond worth the visit. Highly recommended! Loved it! Parking: Parking can be limited depending on the time of day as it is downtown Burlington.
The food is flavourful and well presented. I had the salmon which had a crust that was tasty and somewhat blackened. The sliders to start were amazingly flavourful. We will definitely be back.
Very relaxed.... great food..... and no rush to turn-over the table even on Canada Day. The waitstaff made us feel at home. Well be back for sure.
We came by for lunch during the car show and ate on the patio. Our starter was the Brussel Sprouts and they were so good; crispy, savoury and delicious! Next were the Baffin burger and duck tacos (pics). Both were very tasty. Our server was lovely! Add in a cocktail and a beer and it was a wonderful summer patio lunch.
My very great friend Will and I went to Burly on June 17th for lunch. Neither of us had been here before, but once checking reviews/menu/location we decided to go. A cozy environment inside with a very nice and good sized patio. Will had a Peach Palmy: Peach Juice, Lemonade, Iced Tea . Thirst quenching on a very hot/humid day. I had a Raspberry Spritz: Fresh Raspberries, Lemon, Simple, Orange Juice, Soda. It was also thirst quenching and very good. The menu is very unique with great choices. I had the North Bowl: Sweet Chili Tofu, Basmati Rice, Edamame Pods, Braised Apple Slaw, Pickled Onion, Cucumbers, Cashew Ginger Sauce, Sesame Seeds. It was very delicious. I d definitely get this again. My friend had Cajun Chicken in Naan: Bobcajun Chicken Breast, Bacon, Goat Cheese, Garlic Aioli, Lettuce, Tomato Will said it was very good It was very busy that day; having said that the wait staff were good and very personable. Definitely recommend!!! Parking: Tough to get parking on the busy street. I suggest a parking lot where you can park until around 8 pm. We parked in a lot for $10.00
First time visiting, and it was definitely a nice place to stop in and get the dogs to stop barking. Atmosphere was very chill and very relaxing, perfect for summer evenings, and service was excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Food tasted good, and there were some unique selections not seen on other menus. However, the portions were on the smaller size kids menu chicken wings were four wings only and a small basket of fries; the adult or regular portion was eight wings, same basket of fries, and the fries were broken pieces of all sizes from tips to a couple lengthy strips. This theme was the same for all orders. The prices are definitely elevated for what was received, and are clearly indicative of the area. Honestly, I do not mind spending some money, but when I drop almost $200, and my 10-year-old comes home and makes a box of mac-n-cheese, l have to question whether it is worth it or not, and l do not think it is.
Lovely outdoor patio. Good food
1st time visiting .. crazy fresh ! The donut holes are a must ! Server was friendly and very knowledgeable new everything about the menu.
This place was awesome! Went with some friends and we all tried something different in terms of food, All were absolutely phenomenal. Not to mention the vibe of the place is so cool, we sat on the patio and it was such a vibe! It was a little on the pricey side but you get what you pay for! It was all amazing :) We will totally be back!
Service staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was meh. Ordered the North bowl /w chicken and the muskoka salad and both we re missing ingredients and portions were small.
Great place to have a pint with its good beer selection on tap and everyone who worked there seemed happy and gave off good vibes. Didn t order any food but the menu looks diverse and definitely interested in trying some of the food next time around! Cool spot in Burlington would recommend!
Food is average nothing special about it. Small menu
I sat at the bar with my friend and girlfriend and had a wonderful evening. The atmosphere of the restaurant portrayed the cottage vibes very well! The food was spectacular, we ordered the sprouts and duck tacos as appetisers and loved it. For mains we had the steak bowl, cajun chicken on naan, and baffin burger. All were delicious! For drinks we had several of the cocktails on the menu and all were unique and tasty. Most notable was the bartender s Spicy Margarita! All in all, a great evening, I highly recommend! Vegetarian options: I saw quite a few interesting vegetarian options on the menu, I will definitely be trying them out next time! (I was recommended the steak bowl, meaning I have to come back!) Dietary restrictions: My girlfriend has many allergies and the bartender ensured they were all accommodated for and was very helpful in the process!
Ive been here twice now and can honestly say its such a great place to eat! We dined on the patio, even though the wind was howling and our wonderful server Sarah was a gem! Talk about the sweetest girl! So attentive, so lovely. You need to keep her! I had the Bobcageon chicken wings and they were probably the best Ive ever tasted! The spice rub was superb! I need to buy that spice rub! We had a great evening. Thank you!
Place is awsome! Just need to change to mfs at bar which dont know how to use alcohol for drinks......! SO SAD DRINKS...
Just did pickup from this restaurant and was pretty surprised at the lack of portion on their power bowl. $26 for this seems pretty pricey for barely any food picture was taken without eating yet
Went to North Coal based on the amazing reviews. The service was great and everyone was really friendly. We sat close to the food window and commented on a sandwich that was sat there for over ten minutes. Unfortunately it happened to be my food. It was prepared way in advance and just sat with the heater. The fries ended up cold when I got them and the bun of the sandwich was soggy from sitting so long. The portion are also small for what you pay, in my opinion. The garden salad side is slightly bigger than a kids lunch fruit cup.
We asked some component to be removed from the burgers for our kid. They messed up the order and then told us that they have already applied the discount for that. When the bill came, we didn t see that. Looks like they lied to our face!
Everything about our meals was fabulous! Smoked Duck Tacos were savory and full of flavor. Whiskey Charcoal And Sweet BBq Ribs 100% did fall off the bone and were some of the best weve ever had! Service was attentive and very helpful. We will be back!
I had an amazing experience celebrating my sisters birthday at this restaurant recently. I called ahead to find out about their desserts as we wanted to put a candle in a dessert but some of us have food allergies. There werent any desserts that worked, I asked if I could drop off some desserts in advance and the person I spoke with was super cool with it. The person I dropped them off with in the morning ended up being our server, she was so lovely and attentive. She was awesome in keeping it a surprise when we arrived. The food was really good, great variety so there was something for everyone and of course we love the atmosphere! Thank you SO much to Kayla and everyone for making our visit and my sisters birthday so special! Vegetarian options: Good variety of options Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating, good variety of options
I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, feels like Im at a Muskoka lake front. I love staring at the looping fire pits and lakes on the tvs. The food and cocktails are always delicious.
Best place, free tacos!!
Worst experience! We went there and waited for an hour for the food, and then they offered us fries because the food would take more time. We waited more time, and the food was never ready. We had to go and just ate fries at the end. We were there around two hours for nothing! Bad service!
Yummy yummy yummy! Everything was amazing here! The food portions are great along with the quality! Its a 10 out of 10 will definitely come back! Also the waitstaff were really nice.
We ordered take out, they forgot to put coleslaw and fries were burnt and soggy, worse than McDonalds. Not recommended for take out ! However, this place was busy, so maybe dine in experience is better . Owners think that its ok to serve low quality take out food as no way diners will tolerate such low quality n poor presentation. Wing and ribs sauces were very good , so 2 stars and not 1 because of it.
To the chef of todays butternut squash soup , one of the best I have ever had. The sliders were amazing, as was the coal salad. It was my first visit with a friend and we were both very impressed. I will definitely be returning. Ps. Server was so delightful and spot on with everything. Thank you for a lovely experience. Sorry, never thought about taking photos.
Nice variety of well prepared tasty food. Great service, nice atmosphere. Look forward to going back.
Ok. Cocktails amazing. Food excellent. Burger same price as Poacher but is homemade I just had the melted Brie sammy was amazing. Cocktails amazing. Oops I said that already. Love the atmosphere. Kinda Emma s but better. <3 <3
First time at The North Coal Kitchen and will not be the last. The food was mouth watering and the service, Devine...
Great lunch today, five of us..food was fabulous ..tx to our server Laiken for taking good care of us !
Great Gem in Burlington! Chef Adrian play on Coal is quite clever and delicious!!! I had the Brisket Burger and it was so tasty and flavourful! Vegetarian options: Saw vegetarian options on the menu.. that s all I can say, I m a carnivore !!!
Ate there a few times. Usually got the Steak bowl and its pretty good. Today I had the Baffin burger. Its soooo good. Good enough to review it. Def. getting again. The place itself is comfortable. Everyone Ive interacted with was friendly and on point. Good place for a nice meal. Seriously though, try that burger.
Best services ever thank you so much Emma your the best.
Emma was the best server in the world!!!
emma is the best server in the world
emma is the best server in the world
Great food-Emma was the best!
Emma is hands down one of the best servers! Me and my girlfriend went there Friday evening after not being there for a little due to busy lives and she remembered our orders off by heart! Always hope to have her as our server when ever we go!
The service (Emma) was excellent. Food and drinks were delicious.
Went to the North Coal tonight for dinner. Started off great, we ordered the roasted Pepper dip and it was delicious. Onto entrees, I had the ribs and fries and my wife had the steak bowl. My ribs were not up to my standards and tasted like theyd spent too much time in a Crock-Pot than were re-fired to order. The fries were inedible, FAR too much salt. A table close to us also had this over salting issue. My wifes only complaint was that she was given a butter knife to cut her steak. The dessert wasnt bad per-say but did not match the description on the menu whatsoever. Overall, service was fine, food was disappointing, I wouldnt go back.
Great drinks & friendly service. Appetizer was good but mains were subpar. Fries were inedible. Dessert was also disappointing. Food was generally not at all worth the price point.
I came here to celebrate my birthday on October 1st with friends and family and had a great time! The waitress, whose name I forget, sorry (we had so many drinks lol) was fantastic, checked on us often, we never had to wait long for apps or mains or drinks. 10/10 would come back again. Thank you! The atmosphere was really nice too and the food was great! Our only complaint was that the Bob Cajun wings are kind of sweet and we weren t expecting that. Otherwise the wings themselves were cooked perfectly!
In love with the new menu! So happy to have a spot like this in Burlington, if you haven t been here yet GO
Just went here for a lunch meeting and ordered the Brie sandwich. It was so dry that it hurt my mouth to eat and you could barely see the brie cheese there was so little of it. Others at the table got the exact same sandwich and also did not like it at all. Way overpriced for what you get. The sandwich was $21 and was worse quality than tims. There were also little kids running around everywhere holding glasses and yelling.
Moved to Burlington in January of this year... Have had a couple of meals at this restaurant and each time presented a unique experience. The service has always been exceptional. The menu looks to be traditional but each dish is very unique with a fresh, smokey taste... The atmosphere is warm, comfortable but yet classy... I do eat out often, so now have this as a must go to at least once a month. Thank you to the full staff...
Cute little spot. Good food and service.
Went there for a Sunday family dinner. The drinks were great, apps were nice. I ordered The Tomahawk for my main. The size of the pork was amazing, but the taste was bland and it was pretty dry. Needed more flavour or gravy. Side mash was nice, veg were blanched fine. Also needed a little something.
Nice ambience. Yummy food. Spinach Quinoa Salad and Cauliflower Steak were amazing.
Classy spot with thoughtful and considerate staff. They didnt have a certain dish we ordered and the chef/manager came to our table just to deliver the news. They saw that we didnt entirely enjoy our app, and they took it off the bill without us even saying a word. Classy little moves like that go so far in terms of customer appreciation. I know they cant do this kind of stuff all the time, but on that night, we were the lucky ones to benefit from a great customer-restaurant experience. Its not even our neighborhood but we would consider this our new fav neighborhood spot!! Well done North Coal staff!! Well see you again soon!
Amazing evening out. Loved the crispy brussel sprouts and truffle gnocchi. Pleasant and attentive staff. I highly recommend the North Coal.
Fantastic meal out with friends! It was our first time coming here, I managed to have one of my favourite meals Shepherds Pie for dinner and somehow managed my favourite dessert butter tarts. Both were outstanding! The service was great and the bar just makes you feel comfortable. We will definitely be back, thank you for an outstanding experience.
Food, drinks, and service was incredible.
My husband and I went here for lunch and it was AMAZING. The food was so delicious (we both had burger and truffle fries). They also have signsture cocktails. We tried 3 different ones and all 3 were so full of flavor. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was like walking into a cozy cottage, such a neat atmospher. This definitely is a must go place. We will be going back for sure.
Awesome atmosphere and comfortable seating. Really Canadian/Muskoka grill vibe! The food was really solid and reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. Try the Fire roasted dip, truffle gnocchi or the Baffin burger, would recommend 10/10
1lb Bobcaygeon chicken wings 7 flats 3 drums, waitress agreed that was odd but said it was by weight, as I dont eat the bone there is less meat. Blue cheese sauce has no blue cheese. Bar drinks excellent food soso, ribs and pasta good wings dry, prices high, better places for my money. Glad it was lunch as was going to go for dinner with friends our next outing.
I will go back Awesome food. I had the chicken on naan with house salad and my buddy had the burger and fries. Both were absolutely delicious. Clean, cozy place, friendly good vibe. A must try!
Absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and we received amazing service. The cocktails were fantastic! I felt like we discovered a secret treasure with this place.
