French restaurant serving Moderm French cuisine in a casual setting. Open Dinner, outside dining available in summer.
My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary here this evening. Wonderful experience! Our server Amy was a perfect mix of professional knowledgeable and friendly! Food was excellent (wife had the mussels and I had the vegetarian dish). Bibb salad was awesome and desserts of chocolate mousse and 1910 pastry were excellent. Very enjoyable dinner! Definitely recommend
My party and I had a wonderful time. Both the Chef/Owner and staff were very nice and friendly. Happy to explain each dish. My personal favorite was pan seared duck leg with excellent potatoes side. M our waitress made our evening feel complete with her friendly personality.
Our experience at Bistro de Margot was truly one of a kind and easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcomed and comfortable. We were traveling with our 10-month-old daughter, and they could not have been more accommodating. Not only did they offer a high chair right away and assist with our stroller storage, but they even went the extra mile by bringing out a little something extra for her to enjoy. It’s rare to find a restaurant that caters so well to families with young children, and it made the entire evening that much more enjoyable for us. The staff were all incredibly friendly, and it was clear that customer service is a top priority here. Every waiter who came by was genuinely interested in how we were doing, and we never felt rushed or like we were just another table. What really stood out to us was when the chef himself came out to speak with us. He took the time to ask about our experience, how we were enjoying the meal, and even shared a bit about the dishes and the inspiration behind them. This personal touch made us feel valued and appreciated, which is something you don’t often see in many places. And then there’s the food – absolutely phenomenal! Every dish we ordered was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and presented beautifully. It was clear that a lot of care and attention goes into every plate that leaves the kitchen. From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was just delicious. The quality of the ingredients and the expertise in preparation was evident in every bite. This was the kind of meal where you savor every flavor and genuinely feel like you’re experiencing something special. It’s been a long time since we’ve had food this good. I can confidently say that every penny we spent was more than worth it. Bistro de Margot delivers not only on the food but also on the experience. We left the restaurant feeling full, happy, and completely satisfied. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, whether you’re a couple looking for a nice night out or a family dining with children. They make it work effortlessly for everyone. Without a doubt, the next time we are in Burlington, we will be sure to make a reservation here again. It was an all-around incredible experience that we won’t forget anytime soon.
Welcoming environment, excellent service. Amazing flavorful dishes, incredible contrasts on the plate, outstanding experience.
My friend and I decided to try out this place on a whim, as we're two young men who enjoy a fine meal and had no plans, and I am absolutely delighted to say this was the best culinary experience I have ever had. From the absolutely delightful wine recommended to me by our server, to the quiet atmosphere, everything about this restaurant was amazing. The food was absolutely phenomenal, the best I've ever had. I even tried escargot for the first time, and I loved it. Every dish was a masterpiece. I felt like Frasier would've been proud of me for going. Nothing negative to say about this place, I felt it was well worth the money and it was just exquisite. I will absolutely be returning.
Everything was simply delightful! The unexpected amuse bouche was a pleasant surprise, as was the chef visiting each table to check on his guests, and the lamb melted in my mouth! I will certainly return to this place!
Whether you are there for date night, celebration, or just a really good meal with friends, the Bistro de Margot is an excellent choice. The chef greets and speaks with every table. Cuisine features local farms, and everything about the restaurant is warm and inviting.
I love French cuisine and this French bistro was the perfect place to celebrate my 58th birthday. This place has a warm, cozy, romantic inviting atmosphere. They paid attention to detail and were very attentive to all of our needs. We had escargot, Duck, pan seared veal sweetbread, tarte au citron en verrin, the tarte tatin poire and pan seared cod, glazed root vegetables. Everything was excellent except the cappuccino. We’re looking forward to going back and we recommend this place. Merci et à la prochaine fois.
Best restaurant in Burlington without question. Wonderful food, friendly and welcoming staff, nice atmosphere. Can t wait to dine here again!
Always amazing!
It was an absolute delight to eat at Bistro de Margo last night. We did not have a reservation, but arrived quite early in the evening and they happened to have a table available (the server said a free table is uncommon as they are usually all booked up, so it is best to make a reservation in the future). My husband and I got the prix fixe menu, which I thought was a pretty stellar price point. I was even more pleased when the food came out! The food exceeded our expectations! Absolutely delicious. I got the creme brulee fois gras, which was to die for. For my main, I got the duck (mind-blowing flavor) and for dessert, I got the Paris Brest, which was rich and delicious, but I ended up trading it with my husband for his lemon tart in a jar, which was lighter and a little more refreshing. The servers were fantastic, quick, and friendly. The chef came out to say hello and ask us about the food and our experience. If we lived near here, we would visit this restaurant regularly. My husband (who is quite a food critic, especially when it comes to French food) raved about how good his meal was (steak frites and Rillettes de Porc & Canard Confit) for the rest of the night. Thank you for a great dinner and overall experience!
A special evening with amazing food and service
Did a great job accommodating allergies. A lot of the menu is too over the top for me, for example I love quail but had reservations about foie gras in the stuffing. We wound up with a daily special and really enjoyed it.
Very good service. The whole staff was nice. Leek and mushroom tartelette was truly excellent, and the side vegetables were crunchy and delicious. Gazpacho amuse bouche was fine in small quantity but too salty. I do not recommend the mussels. Avoid the meringue dessert. The violet flavor was so intense that it tasted like fancy soap.
One of the best meals I ve had in the Burlington area. Perfectly done duck in a delicious berry sauce. Had a bite of fellow diner s steak frites - not your average preparation yum! Pistachio pastry for dessert was fabulous. Service outstanding- well paced dining experience. Chef came out to chat and check on the meal. It was obvious that he genuinely interested in our thoughts.
Service was great! We even got a special visit from the Chef to check in on the food. He was super nice and friendly. The food was good , that said, I do not think the food quality merited the high prices.
All the food was excellent. The duck and all the roasted veggies from both out mains were cooked to absolute perfection, seriously one of the most delicious meals I ve had this year. Left you feeling full and satisfied but not heavy. Atmosphere was ok, for the price you d expect better though. Some dimmed lighting, new center piece and slightly higher music could help. I could hear all the other tables conversation - entertaining, but didn t match the elegance of the food. All in all, would 1000% recommend
We had a wonderful meal to celebrate my wife s Birthday. The food was amazing and the service impeccable!!! A great selection of Champagne and wines. Highly recommended!!!
Incredible from the start to the end ! The best chocolat mousse I ever had! Highly recommend if you re a foodie :)
Amazing! The three course meal option dazzled us with flavor. To top off the experience the chef came over to our table. Best of Burlington!
Excellent food, wine and service. We loved the moules frites owner/head chef was great and even gave our daughter a tour and some special treats from the kitchen. Highly recommend. Food
Delicious food. Classy restaurant.
Lovely atmosphere, great location! We got the prix fixe with wine pairing, and appreciated having some options to choose from. I got the lobster creme brulee (a bit unusual but delightful) and my wife got the escargot (best shed had). The fish was a delight and the moule frite were as expected. Not too notable except the huge portion! Then finished with chocolate mousse and the tarte citrine, which was effectively a lemon square pudding in a jar, which i loved. If we find ourselves in burlington again we will come back here for sure!
Excellent food! Absolutely delicious. Kind staff
Best steak of my life. The staff were so kind and welcoming and the chef even came out to greet us! Music was a little too quiet but it doesnt matter compared to everything else. 10/10 dinner!!! I will be a regular from now on.
I absolutely love French cuisine and have been to France a couple times. This restaurant does not meet the mark. The good: the service was wonderful and the cocktails were decent. The amuse bouche bean dish hit the spot and so did the bread (but that s made by O Bread offsite). The bad: we started with the smoked salmon. The salmon itself was fine but combination of flavors was off (endive did not belong). My husband got a fish dish and it was undercooked. The best part of the moules frites were the frites. The kicker for me that really bumped it to 2 stars was the Paris Brest. The choux pastry is not made fresh and was burnt. The cream was also slightly separated. It was evident the dessert came straight from the fridge. (It might be helpful to note that I m a pastry chef.) I really wanted to like this restaurant, but it left much to be desired.
From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the tone for the entire evening. The menu offered an excellent variety of options, making it hard to choose because everything sounded so appealing. When our dishes arrived, we were impressed by the quality and presentation of the food - each bite was a testament to the chefs passion and attention to detail. The service was truly impeccable. It was our first visit, and we were there to celebrate a special occasion. The staff went above and beyond, ensuring that our evening was memorable. They were attentive without being intrusive, and their recommendations were spot on, enhancing our dining experience. We left the restaurant feeling genuinely appreciated and satisfied. Thank you to the entire team for an outstanding evening that exceeded our expectations. Well certainly be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special night. Melissa
The creativity and technique are unexpected for such a tiny town like burlington but this little gem delivers every single time.
My wife and I did our date night here. Make a reservation in advance. The chef came out to say hi to the guest. Great food! Highly recommend the set 3 course meal and finish off with an expresso!
Fabulous food, service, and atmosphere!
Wonderful dining experience at Bistro de Margot. French cuisine, cooked to perfection.
Prix fixe menu with wine tasting was a delight. Incredible service including the sommelier and the chef came out to say hello. Could make a few tweaks to ambiance but the food is impeccable.
Excellent dinner and service!!
This place was amazing. I would highly recommend it if your are looking for a wonderful dining experience. The food was out of this world!
It was very very good. Snails, puree as well as fish and dessert. In a very relaxing atmosphere. First restaurant with the little one and it s a perfect meal.
Excellent
Bistro de Margot, where have you been all my life? Were always looking for great places to eat in Burlington, and this one shows up as 34th onYelps list?!?! Thats a travesty. This place is awesome, certainly the best restaurant in Burlington, and one of the best Ive found anywhere. Small, intimate place with exquisite offerings. I had the best lamb loin Ive had anywhere. Same goes for my wifes scallops. Top notch service. Wicked friendly staff. Help move this one up the ratings ladder, try it out!
The location is great, the food is excellent, the service was impeccable. having the chef visit you at your table after diner elevated the experience! We drove from Montreal to try this restaurant and it was truly worth it!
My daughter and grandson had an early Mothers Day celebration last evening and it was beyond our expectations. The food and wine pairings were spectacular and our service was so pleasant and knowledgeable which enlightened our dining expectation. A must dining experience for someone who appreciate great artistically created food with a well chosen wine selection. Wonderful evening spent at the Bistro.
Per high recommendation, we chose to check out Bistro De Margot on vacation from Boston. Now I m always a fan of French food. But I can t say the trip up up here to eat at this restaurant was at all worth it. Our waitress knew barely any facts about the menu- told us the wrong ingredients in the amuse bouche and recommended a terrible white wine. That aside, I would say the escargot and moules frites were delicious. The halibut was incredibly bland and lackluster. And for someone with a severe nut allergy - there was 0 accommodation for appetizer or dessert modification. If you are in the area and have free time - sure pop in. But probably best to check out another venue.
Top foodie place in Burlington VT!
Great prix fixe menu, great wine pairings, great experience
Amazing! Our expectations were exceeded on every level. We have been fortunate to eat at wonderful restaurants all over the world and this was a meal that we will certainly always remember! Anna, Abbot and Amy (a very knowledgeable sommelier), took great care of us and the wine pairing was excellent). The Chef is obviously classically trained and the food and presentation was textbook (very friendly fellow as well). I could go into great detail about every course, but the bottom line is - just go and enjoy this wonderful slice of Europe in Vermont. Thank You so much, J&K
Despite my uncultured palate, I had a great experience at Bistro de Margot. The servings were perfectly sized, with delightful flavors and bites I have never encountered before. The staff were excellent and the chef was personal and endearing. My wife pointed out the interior design could use a couple touch ups to really bring this restaurant to another level, and I agree. A must visit!
A great restaurant all around. My girlfriend and I were passing through-- driving back from Montreal back to Rhode Island. The food was authentic french cuisine, the chef came out to talk with us, unbelievable creme brulee. We were sufficiently fueled up and ready to continue driving into the night. But the BIG PLUS for us was that after realizing we accidentally leaving something behind at the restaurant an hour after being back on the road, we called them after closing and they graciously agreed to mail our stuff back to us in RI and even followed up to make sure we got it back. Honestly, this place saved our lives. Go here. Wonderful food and hospitality. Thanks again Bistro de Margo <3
Nice place. Good food
One of the best meals Ive ever had in my life
Really disappointed! Sad not to take customers when there is no one! Unfortunately we had the impression of being judged by appearance when we returned. Thank you for responding to the review, the only point would be to tell us that we only have an hour, we would have been delighted... but you just said its not possible. However, I tried to book on Google for 5 p.m. which was possible but we were ahead so we went back... what would the answer have been if we had said yes we have a reservation!
Great French bistro in downtown Burlington. Enjoyed 3 course prix fixe. All courses were great with generous mains. Beware the fries- you will not be able to stop eating them.
Unfortunately it was not a good experience at all. We did have a reservation. Your response show the type of manager that you are. Not a good one that is! You could of offered us to sit inside but we would have to be done by 6:15. Nothing was offered. You didn t even step outside to explain. Yes you suck as a manager. Always keep your clients happy as you never know who they are. Thank you for you response. Shows exactly your management skills. If there would be a negative one I would of given to you as a manager. Ana our waitress was amazing and embarrassed as to how we were treated
Its a great place, they bring us a great service. Its a very romantic place
Creative & sophisticated balance of flavors. Excellent presentation & service. One of the best French meals we ve had in a long time.
Great place. Wine pairing was great, the Somali was very knowledgeable, wait staff was great. The chef even came out to check how everything was. Very friendly experience
Gorgeous presentation, lovely food, excellent service, & nice of the chef to stop by our table to say hello. Prix Fixe menu had a lot of wonderful options including gluten free dishes available.
Finally found a great French restaurant! Friendly, relaxed, and knowledgeable staff. Excellent timing for a variety of delicious food and delicious wine pairings. This was our first visit and we will definitely go back to check out the changing menu. The chef came out and checked in on us during the meal and you can tell he really cares about his customers and his food.
Loved this place so much! Food was fantastic and Lauren, our server, was the absolute best!!!!! Would definitely visit again.
Food, drinks and service were great, Josh was an exceptional server and is extremely knowledgeable and polite. I suggest splurging for the three course tasting menu as it s the best value. Only critique is the atmosphere of this restaurant doesn t match the classic French cuisine or the quality of the food.
Lovely, warm, modern restaurant. Terrific, friendly staff. Food was spectacular. Great wine list. Its not cheap, but it is worth it.
Great restaurant! Great service and food. The owner stopped by our table at the end of the meal. He shared with us the time and attention to detail he puts into his food. It shows as every bite was savored. Wine list is French focused. We will return the next time we are in Burlington. Thank you for a wonderful night.
Everything was wonderful. The space is elegant and understated, the service attentive and efficient, and the food interesting and delicious without trying too hard. A superb evening. We will be going back soon.
Finally, the only restaurant in Burlington, VT with descent food around here. The food was delicious and we enjoyed every bite. Will definitely go back.
We attended for a special menu evening, so I cannot speak to the regular fare, but the quality and skill of preparation would lead me to believe what my wife and I experienced was not a fluke. Delicate and expertly prepared true French cuisine is a rarity in Vermont, but this place absolutely nails it. The chef/owner, a classically trained french master whose resume is rife with accolades, employs a highly skilled sommelier that uses the high quality wines at their disposal to create highly elevated culinary experiences. This bistro brings the quality of a Paris restaurant to Vermont. Do not miss a chance to visit Bistro de Margot
Great place to eat at. Delicious food and wonderful ambiance. Please visit. You will not regret it!
Excellent chef, superb service w a great atmosphere! Totally enjoyed our evening.
I came here with my fiance for a birthday dinner Saturday night and was disappointed. My fiance is from Paris and I wanted to surprise him with an authentic meal that would remind him of home. Unfortunately, the meal did not meet expectations. The moule frite was not served with a plate and was instead served directly out of the pot. Also the sauce lacked flavor and needed more wine. The duck was not served with traditional orange, but instead had been boiled giving it an odd texture and the sauce was not appealing. The bread and wine were good, however, we would like to see traditional baguette on the menu. We were looking forward to trying the tarte tatin for dessert, but sadly this also was not on the menu the night we dined there, so we decided to skip dessert. Customer service was lacking. Our waitress Claire did not check on us until after we had finished our entrees, and the chef did not come to our table. I was especially disappointed by this since I had made reservations two weeks in advance and had let the owner know we were celebrating a birthday. Overall we were unhappy with the experience and will not be returning. There are much better dining options in Burlington and we will not recommend Bistro de Margot to friends and family.
After reading the reviews for Bistro Margot we expected a wonderful dining experience. Perhaps we just hit an off day for the chef but the food was very disappointing (with the exception of the cheese platter which was very good). The escargot, leek & mushroom tartlet and pan-seared cod were all mediocre. The Paris-Brest pastry dessert should have been prepared fresh but was obviously just pulled out of the refrigerator. On the positive side, our server Annie was wonderful and both of the glasses of Bordeaux were excellent. Our dinner the following evening was at the other French bistro in town which was exceptional.
Excellent staff! Excellent meal! Excellent atmosphere! I definitely recommend
Great food great service and a nice ambience.
Lovely french bistro with terrific wine list. Attentive, knowledgeable staff. Veal was excellent. Try the homemade sorbets-delicious! Will return.
Delicious outdoor dining experience. Beautiful presentation, flavorful, fresh, satisfying food and great service. A memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.
I cannot recommend Bistro de Margot enough. My husband and I base our yearly trip to Burlington on when we can get a table here. Please do yourself a favor and get a table here if you can. One of my favorite restaurants!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Margot Bistro! We just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with a beautiful, delicious dinner, made all the more special by their attentive, discreet but friendly staff. The food is a feast for the eye and the palate, the wine list and cocktail offerings are extensive, just an all-around, high-quality experience each time we visit!
It s fine if the portions are small, but the food at least needs to be, like, good at this price point. We were so hungry we ordered pizza down the street before we were done with our meal. The current, as of this review, prix frixe doesn t have enough substance to it. There s nothing technical, interesting, or delicious. One of the salads was basically just a plate of cherry tomatoes with some balsamic. I don t care about a fried egg on top. It s pretentious; it s not fine dining. I think the positive reviews might be a situation where people don t want to feel like idiots for spending a couple hundred dollars on dinner that has no flavor or substance so they re pretending it s remarkable.
Another fabulous dinner! So many years, dependably the best restaurant in Burlington. Vegetarian options: Fish, veggie or lamb main courses tonight. Parking: Downtown Burlington is an easy park on a weeknight.
Great food and fast service! There are two tables on a patio with views of lake Champlain
Came here for a wedding dinner. We had the pre-fix menu with wine and cocktails. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic. The chef came out and spoke to us personally and made the bride and groom feel really special. Beautiful restaurant downtown!
Awesome French food. Deliciously prepared dishes and beautiful wines. Relaxed excellent service.
Absolutely fantastic! Held a dinner here for 30. Herve and his staff couldnt have been more accommodating. Food delicious, atmosphere inviting, staff so courteous and professional!
We reserved a table for our 12 year anniversary and really enjoyed our meal. We did the fixed menu and everything we had was fantastic, especially dessert. The atmosphere was very appropriate for an anniversary dinner and the service was good.
WOW. Wow! Through a crazy turn of events, my husband and I unexpectedly ended up here in Burlington for a several days. On our last night before heading to Boston, we decided to go out to dinner and found this hidden gem. We have dinned in some of the best restaurants in the world, and the memories of many of those meals blur into each other. This meal will be one that we will remember for years to come. How fortunate Vermonters are to have this amazing chef and restaurant. We had the tasting menu with a wine pairing. The beef cheek (AND its sauce) was fabulous. My main course (a mushroom taste) was outstanding. And the Paris-Brest pastry was to die for. Outstanding service. Excellent special occasion / romantic dinner location. Pricy but worth every single penny.
Hypocrite Chef, Toxic Communication
Very nice place, great food, chef/owner came out to say hello. Definitely go here.
So great!!! Awesome dishes, great service, and wonderful atmosphere
Nice French bistro with excellent selections. Their escargot is what we came for and we ended up also getting the salmon and the scallops. All of these items were delicious, perfectly cooked, and very well presented; they have wine by the glass or by the bottle. It s tailorable for any budget, but a little bit on the higher side. Wait staff was immaculate, very nice, and would recommend!
Excellent. This bistro was highly recommended, and lived up to every aspect of our wishes. Would definitely recommend to others. The scallops were amazing and paired well with a bottle of chablis. Pricing was fair to both owner and customer.
As usual another great dinner at Bistro deMargot. The food, the presentation and the service were all top notch! You cant go wrong on this great Burlington restaurant!
Excellent cuisine and congenial atmosphere
We ve been here many times and the food always been exceptional
Exquisite food, attentive service
Loved it wait staff and owner very hospitable...Interesting menu and drinks..tasty food...oxtail confit for example
Mussels and scallops were great!
Snails and mussels really great!!!
Every bite was perfection. Server was attentive with the right amount of friendly and professionalism. Expectations exceeded.
The ambience is wonderful. The food is absolutely delicious (try the duck with cranberry sauce). The Chef comes to your table to make sure everything is fine !
I discovered this little gem about a month ago and have been a few times. Exceptional food, friendly service.
Delicious!
Much more progressive and modern than leunigs, better food too. Great service.
Delicious dinner tonight!
Good french food and good service. Traditional french fare well prepared and excellent cocktails
This is a fabulous restaurant. We were able to get a same day reservation and the setting was ideal for a quiet evening dinner. It was our first time dining out since the pandemic and we felt safe based on the placement of customers and the servers all wore masks.
Our experience was above & beyond our expectations! The food, service exceptional! Isabella, our wait staffer, was personable and professional. She guided our dining experience beautifully. We were very touched by Herve family background story & how he named his restaurant in honor of his maman Margot! Bravo to all who made our evening merveilleux A bientot mes amis!!! Bistro de Margot is fantastic French dining in Burlington.
Best meal I have ever had in my life. The French pastry dessert literally made me moan, much to my embarrassment (lol). I also had the cheese plate and chicken with jus - everything was lick- your-plate level amazing. Service was great, too.
It was fine, I was expecting more from the reviews and look of the menu. The food was good, not the best Ive ever had for this level of dining. I was excited to try the halibut plate, but it seemed confused and scrapped together, most of the flavors didnt do anything for eachother. The halibut itself was cooked well. Moules frites were good. My main complaint is the ambiance. They really didnt do much to move this from a corporate-loan-office feel to a fine french restaurant. I really felt like I was waiting at a bank.
Absolutely fantastic meal in every sense of it! Beautiful decor, wonderful staff, elegant (and of course) exquisite food. Everything we ordered was some of the best food weve had, and weve had some really great meals! This to me is a world-class restaurant that will continue to attract visitors from around the world. Pro-tip: The smoked trout is unbelievably good!
An amazing dining experience.
FANTASTIC French cuisine, nice quiet atmosphere inside with outside seating. New favorite eating spot in Burlington!!
french attitude :: like you or kick you!
Wonderful food. Pleasant atmosphere.
Our experience here was the highwater mark of dining in Burlington. First, the owner has managed a work culture that allows him to retain a highly trained staff when other restaurants are closed to dining due to lack of staff. We really appreciate the attention of our server, especially since we walked in off the street without a reservation. I didnt mind being seated in the lounge because it was a lot quieter than the main dining area and allowed for a more intimate experience. Every dish was exquisitely prepared and presented -- oxtail and salad for the entrees, mussels and chicken for the main course. I never order dessert because Im not particularly into sweets, but Im glad I made an exception this time with the Paris-Brest pastry. My partner enjoyed the chocolate mint. Alas, we were not in the proper mindset to enjoy alcohol, and I would like to apologize for being on my phone constantly (trying to resolve an imminent housing crisis) during the meal. Despite the necessity of making arrangements, it was disrespectful to the staff and the food. I like to be much more relaxed when eating a delicious meal and I regret if my distraction negatively impacted the staff. Cheers, Bonnie and Bret!
SO Grateful to the owner(s) and staff for being THE stand out in Burlington. Having traveled to more than 40 countries...Bistro de Margot, remains among the best 5 in my world !
Fantastic for a special occasion, food is best in Burlington
Phenomenal. Ethereal. Delicious. Executed perfectly. Amuse bouche was heirloom tomatoes gazpacho. Appetizers were smoked cod rillettes, oxtail frite, escargot. Dinners were duck confit and roasted chicken. Dessert was Revisited Classic French pastry created in 1910 in honor of the Paris-Brest bicycle race Chou pastry, pistachio cream and lemon merengue tart.bravo to chef Herve and his expert staff.
Amazing.
Just had a delicious dinner here, I eat here every time I m in Burlington. You should reserve a table way in advance, like a few days. It gets pretty busy. They do have some tables available for walk up for a small party of 2-4 on weekdays, at least for us, we got lucky. Try the french onion soup and fillet minion!
The restaurant was amazing. Service was excellent. And the food was to die for. We will definitely be back. Absolutely loved this place
Wonderfully prepared food using high-quality provisions. Superb service and comfortable settings.
Terrific service and wonderful food and wine.
I received a call at 7:10pm on Saturday that they needed to cancel our 7:45 reservation because of broken kitchen equipment . I certainly understand that things like this happen, but I didn t appreciate the attitude of the person who called, who said this really sucks for us too . It was our last night on vacation and we had planned to celebrate by husband s birthday, but we were left without a dinner reservation. What would have been helpful is if they had offered to use their local connections to help make a reservation or get us on a wait list at another top Burlington restaurant, but that s not how they chose to handle the situation.
Excellent French cuisine with great service
Would allow me eat becayse i did not have my vaccination card
We have visited a few times now. The food has always been top grade. From start to finish premium plus good. Service great as well
Service was top notch. The escargot was delicious. Id go back for that alone.
Phenomenal experience! Delicious food, amazing service, and beautiful restaurant. We drove 4 hours to come to this restaurant because we heard good things and it absolutely lived up to our expectations. Thank you Bistro De Margot!
Perfect! The food, the drinks, the wine, the decore, and the professional service, just perfect.
Great service, food, and drinks for a wonderful special birthday.
1st time here. Really nice that they take limited reservations so they can offer personalized service even during pandemic times. Attentive service. Chef came around to check and chat with everyone. Ambiance and food (escargot, mousse, moules-frites) were fine. The mushroom tart was amazing and one of the best martinis Ive had in Burlington. We did have heightened expectations, with all the hype and good reviews, possibly making me more critical than with other restaurants but overall it was a very lovely night and were looking forward to dining here more in the future.
We had dinner on Friday, January 3 at Bistro Margot.. The menu was extremely limited and overpriced . The food was the worst I have had during my recent trip to Burlington . I will not be back . Janice
Wow! I lived in Paris but this is the best French restaurant Ive ever been to. There should be a line out the door. If you havent been, maybe youre worried that French food is shishi and froufrou for fancy people; this restaurant is not silly and precious. This is French comfort food at its absolute best! Its not wildly expensive, ingredients are top notch, preparation is excellent and service is great! Check out the menu and, if its in your family budget, bring your kids! Theres steak and french fries on the menu, so that should appeal to many tastes. And then try the bean dish called cassoulet. Honest, I have never had a better cassoulet anywhere, not in France or Canada, and its a hassle to make at home. Please go here.
Absolutely amazing! One of the best restaurants in Burlington.
Beignets A+ Service A+ Food - very good A/A- Price - quite expensive It was cold in the restaurant. Brrr!
very nice ambiance, welcoming and very qualified staff. the food was great and, in my opinion, not overpriced compared to other places I went to. highly recommend!
Went for Valentines Day dinner. Everything was delicious and Im bummed I havent tried it sooner.
The food, the service and the ambiance were all perfect. The special of the day was a stuffed rabbit saddle which was superb. The dessert recommended by the chef (after the chocolate moose) was beignets which was also really good. The chef is French and very friendly. The price was a bit high but well worth it. 2 people having Starter, main course, desert and a glass of wine each was about $140 after taxes. But we did have a couple of more expensive plates on and off the menu. If you can definitely try.
Amazing food, outstanding service. Menu has true French food but also some simple specialties for everyone. Outdoor seating was superb.
Great dinner tonight at Bistro de Margot. Delicious steak tartare, salt cod, steak frites and duck confit. Thanks to Matt for the wine recommendation! A great experience for our first post-quarantine outdoor dining!
We had a great time at this restaurant. They took the appropriate precautions during COVID and even gave us free bottles of sanitizer afterwards. Highly recommend.
Amazing service and ambiance! Totally forgot that its COVID season when we dined there! Amazing food and wine list. Definitely coming back. Some of the best food in Vermont
The escargot is great! But expensive.
SO INCREDIBLY AMAZING. I think this is the best restaurant Ive been to in Vermont (and even out of state; the last place that was comprable was in D.C.). I cant really say enough about how delicious the food was! The chef is an incredibly classy gentleman who came out to meet and chat with every customer after they were finished with their meal. Cannot wait to go next week!
Great chef! Came to the table to thank us for coming in!
Amazing food, must visit while in Burlington!
Great ambiance, delicious food.
Amazing dinner tonight - food and service top ! Let me be clear : this is not great food for Vermont standards ... Bistro de Margot could be in NYC or Montreal and still would be on top!
The food was fabulous. The chef came out and personally greeted us and took our kids back to see how the food was prepared. A wonderful dining experience!
An upscale dining experience conveniently outside the overcrowded Church Street plaza.
We dinned there last night. Very quaint, super clean setting. Nice gray leather cushioned back seating. It took 20 minutes after being seated , before the waitress would come back to our table to get a drink order. The table was set to French perfection, with a nice crisp table cloth, glasses, and nice flatware. The wine pour was good, only one chard on the list that was by the glass. The Escargo was bland, lacked garlic. The black dish it was served in also looked unappetizing . The scallop entree came only with 3, a fourth would be better for the price. The mussels were excellent. And the steak , which was on the small side, was done to perfection. The French fries were good, made there, but short little fries. One big miss was the bread. It was very chewy. I really was hoping for a nice soft French baguette. And for a French restaurant , a few basic things would have made a big difference with the ambiance. Like some French music. There was no music for the first hour we were there. Then some soft American music came on. Also none of the wait staff spoke any French. Even just having the host say bonjour! Would have been a nice touch. The chef did send out a little sample of green soup, which was ok. The desserts were excellent, all made there, and made to perfection.
French fine cuisine the real deal, done with art. A beautiful white room of minimal decor, tall windows beautifully letting in natural light, soft music offering French delights like Benjamin Biolay all that as the perfect chic yet unpretentious setting for the most delicious dishes. Entrées (description in the photos) were impeccable, as was service, very professional and yet friendly. From the desserts, a cliché such as the crème brûlée was not just another one of many we ve had in French restaurants but simply one of the best! Wish desserts had a better presentation, though. Chef Hervé came to our table for a quick chat and to receive well deserved compliments. Our best experience in Burlington.
Excellent classical French food! Very nice atmosphere, good pacing for courses.
Anyone that would ever say anything negative about this place is just the one in the bunch that can never be satisfied. This place is 5 star dining at the greatest. Chef here really knows about the food and cares so much. The food prepared with outstanding care. Very knowledgeable chef I really respect the way you do things. This place is a gem ps it s not over priced you wanna be cheap go to Wendy s this place deserves the gratitude don t eat at 5 star places if it hurts your pockets
Our waitress was so kind and patient with us. Our glasses always had water. And the food was DELICIOUS. Great place for a romantic dinner. Truly loved everything about my experience.
This Bistro de Margot is one of a great place to eat. The food is amazing.
Amazing food, wait staff, overall experience.
Good customer service.
Venture one minute walk south of Church Street to find this hidden gem. One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. The inviting space is quiet, elegant and has lots of natural light. The staff were the perfect balance of friendly and helpful, but professional and unobtrusive. The food impeccably prepared with skillfully blended flavors. Reading the menu I thought the flavors might be a little simple for my preference, but that was not the case at all. My initial disappointment at seeing the cream of mushroom soup come out as a puree without any meaty mushroom chunks went away at first taste. It was decadent and creamy with a rich mushroom flavor accented by a few drops of parsley oil and parsley, and yet somehow not overly heavy. The pork belly had a perfect sear and melted in my mouth with no hint of chewy fat, accompanied by a richly flavored braising jus reduction and lentils. Every dish impressed us. Fantastic dining experience.
Incredible food. Chef comes out and ask how your meal is and really cares about the way people experiences his food. If you have the means because it is a bit pricey, I highly recommend it. Very delicious!
Went there with friends for my wifes birthday. I ordered escargot as I always have this appetizer when I eat in a French restaurant. Good as always, really appreciate they cut the bread to the size that you can dip the sauce inside the hole on the iron. My main dish was steak frites. Again good but lack that wow effect. Still like the charcoal burn favor on the steak.
A sensual experience of the best kind. And a birthday to remember thanks to my wonderful wife and the staff here.
One word: WOW! One of the best meals weve ever had! The service was amazing, the Head Chef even came out a few times to talk to us about our meals and how it was prepared. HIGHLY recommend and will definitely be returning the next time were visiting Burlington!
I can t believe how delicious this was! A truly special meal, perfectly blended flavors and the service was wonderful. I waited so long to come here and I ll be back very soon. Very much a pleasure, phenomenal experience!
Excellent from start to finish!
Food is excellent. Atmosphere is a bit loud and could use some sound dampening. Wish theyd also enforce a no baseball hats for men to keep it classier.
Its so nice to go to an actual date night restaurant. The prices are the same as at any of the other decent restaurants in town, but instead of having a casual sure come on in with your jeans and t-shirt vibe, it feels like a restaurant for grownups and actually has tablecloths.
Excellent food and reasonable prices. If youre from out of town this is definitely worth venturing a couple blocks away from Church St to dine here. The chef truly takes pride in his work.
We have visited for several special occassions. Food is superb. Great selection of dishes that are well cooked and nicely presented. Many with local ingredients. Very good wine list. Atmosphere is formal but not stuffy. Service is professional but friendly. Terrlfic wine list. Chef/owner spends a lot of time out front asking every guest how their experience is. Makes us want to come back. Only wish we could afford to more often.
This is a tough review to write because the reality is Im holding this place to a different standard than lets say McDonalds. If I go to McDonalds and get crapy service or crappie food ... no biggie.. thats probably par for course. But this kind of restaurant where you pay for parking in a baby sitter its a $200 event ...I expect something amazing... I did not get amazing.. Granted it was better than McDonalds and better than applebees. But it was not amazing. My fish tasted like it had been frozen... no bueno.... My salad was a 5 star salad but my main course was very disappointing.... Then there was the service... I seriously felt neglected by the server... Like I had to hunt her down to get something.... And the wait time between courses was a bit rough lots of downtime waiting for the next plate... To be fair I will go back again and try it out but 1st time was not impressive
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner here! Special thanks to servers Margot and Natalia for their excellent attention to detail and friendly customer service. They made great menu and wine recommendations and helped us have a perfect dining experience! We had the duck and the steak frites and both were cooked perfectly and we finished every bite.
Bistro de Margot offers a refined dining experience and excellent French wine list in downtown Burlington. The amuse bouche was a delightful pea soup that was perfectly balanced. The fish appetizer was forgettable and apparently already off the menu. As far as the mains, we were impressed with the soupe de poisson, grilled lamb chops, and magret de canard. Unfortunately, we found the Halibut to be dry. The peach tart and accompaniments were delicious while the creme brulee was rather ordinary. Notably, the chef came to personally greet all of the tables except ours, which hopefully was an honest mistake.
We had a wonderful dinner here. Service was great and food outstanding. We loved our duck and halibut entrees and the Tarte Tatin was delicious!
Elegant, authentically French restaurant in downtown Burlington. The food is outstanding and the service immaculate. The chef-owner comes into the dining room and greets the customers individually and asks for their feedback. What a special treat this place is!
Excellent experience. The meal was exquisite. The chef came and talked with us after the meal. Very impressed and reasonably priced
The food and service are impeccable
Adding this place to my relatively short list of special occasion restaurants in the Champlain Valley. Great service, inspired and unique dishes, satisfying portions. Not cheap, but worth every penny!
Nice place
Arlo Guthries performance was fantastic!
Fantastic French-inspired food thats on par with anything wed get in Montreal, fairly priced on top of it. Excellent friendly service, veggie options, nice dining room. Highly recommended.
Food and atmosphere were amazing
My girlfriend and I have gone on our anniversary for the past two years. Its just amazing. The flavors are so well developed and the ingredients are blatantly fresh sourced items. If youre lucky enough to have a chance for foie gras, you must try it! We didnt even wait to take a picture before we attacked it!
Very impressed by the service, which was impeccable and very professional throughout. The food was was very good, but I will return again to try the other dishes before commenting further. 100% real French cuisine cooked by a real French Owner/Chef, Herge, who came out to meet us. Some modern twists that seemed a little unfamiliar to me. The chef is clearly making an effort to provide a top quality experience, so that should be taken as a positive sign.
Excellent wine and escargot!
