One of Burlington’s most beloved restaurants, Trattoria Delia has invited guests to enjoy authentic, expertly prepared Italian cuisine, warm hospitality, and smart, attentive service for over 26 years.
We visited Trattoria Delia during our first trip to Burlington two years ago and had an incredible experience, so naturally, we made reservations to return on this year’s trip to Vermont. Unfortunately, I think this visit will be our last. Two years ago, we ordered their meats, and everything was phenomenal. This time, we decided to try their pastas, and it was a mistake. How an Italian restaurant of this caliber can mess up pasta is beyond me, but it was bad. My husband ordered the bucatini all’amatriciana (or maybe it was spaghetti?), and it was anything but amatriciana. The pasta was drowning in a tomato sauce that tasted like Chef Boyardee, the guanciale was barely noticeable, and the whole dish had an overly watery, acidic flavor. It was awful. I ordered the mushroom fettuccine, which was better but still not my favorite. They went way overboard with the cream, throwing off the balance completely. For dessert, we ordered affogato, but our waitress walked away so quickly we didn’t even have a chance to specify whether we wanted it with amaro or limoncello. She didn’t ask, either, and ended up bringing ice cream without any topping (which was supposed to be included) and with a lackluster presentation. To be fair, the appetizers were excellent. The duck confit and crostini topped with sardines were both perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. The price-to-portion ratio for the appetizers was also great, and we still loved the cozy, romantic ambiance of the restaurant. But there’s no excuse for how disappointing the entrees were. For the price and reputation, we expected so much better.
Amazing restaurant. Showed up for reservation but made it for next night. Hostesses gave us option of table on time limit or bar. We choose the bar. Waiter was very attentive and accommodating as my wife is vegetarian, so provided several options for her not on menu. Cheese board was delicious with Vermont cheese, rissoto was great too. I had the shrimp pasta, very taste. And gelato and tiramisu topped off a great dinner. Highly recommend. Don’t be put off by entrance to restaurant.
This may have been our 10th visit to Trattoria Delia over the past 20 years? I believe the owner/management has changed a couple of times? Even still after all these years, our dinner this evening was simply delightful. Our server, Grace, could not have been more excellent. She took just the right amount of time to describe the specials perfectly and to help select the best glass of wine to pair with my dinner. She was warm, genuine, and attentive (without being bothersome). The food was spectacular. The special appetizer was so good that we ordered a second round of it!. The regular menu continues to have long lasting favorites in addition to new and seasonal deliciousness every time. And the wine and cocktail offerings are really, really good. Never a disappointment. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.
My husband and I went yesterday to have dinner for a special occasion, I ordered the filetto al Barbera and it was so good, the beef sauce delicious. And for dessert we had tarta al limone.
Excellent dinner choice. The food is authentic and the service was superb. I will return and try a fish dish. I really like the outsole seating as the weather was perfect. Kick back and try a new diah!
We had an incredible meal at this restaurant a little less than a year ago, so it became our favorite restaurant. We based an anniversary trip to Burlington on the opportunity to have dinner here again. We had a reservation for 7:45 PM on a Sunday. Dinner here was actually part of my husband’s anniversary gift. Our table was small and not in the best location, but the restaurant had an otherwise comfortable atmosphere. However, we will not be returning. This time we struggled to find dishes we wanted to order on the menu that seemed to have completely changed from our last visit. There were rabbit, beef, and seafood options, but no chicken. There was not a white sauce option for pasta, and many dishes included at least one ingredient that was off-putting or did not make sense. The antipasto selections did not include a more traditional option. We ordered the octopus, and it was just okay for $18. The menu was extremely limited, and that can be good, but not in this case. The chef did agree to make me what I ordered last year, a mushroom pasta with seared scallops. It was not nearly as good, but I appreciated the effort to make an off-menu meal, and the scallops were perfectly seared, but just on one side. My husband ordered a pasta dish with clams. It was served swimming in warmish pesto water. He would have liked Parmesan and some pepper, but was not offered them. It was too late by the time our server asked how our meals were. One of our biggest issues is that our meal was not served with the rustic bread that we enjoyed the year before, nor did any of the tables around seem to have any. I could see where the bread was usually cut, and it looked like the restaurant simply ran out, but it was never mentioned. We just assumed that bread was no longer served. That was not the case. Our server told us she was new, and did not seem to know anything about the dishes on the menu. We could tell she was trying though. We had an appetizer, 2 main dishes, and 2 drinks. The bill was $110 and would have been worth it if these issues were not present. It’s been a day and we are still disappointed and talking about how our favorite restaurant is now our least favorite. FYI: Please note that the main dishes on the “dish recommendation” section of reviews no longer are on the menu; none of them!
Waking into this restaurant is like being transported to a different world with a warm ambience and gorgeous and cozy interiors. We loved the hospitality provided by an excellent staff who were always on their feet and very professional and nice :) For starters they gave us homemade sour dough bread with butter and I’ve never tasted bread so tasty that blends perfectly with the butter ❤️ For appetizers we had the Antipasto Misto and it was the best :) For the entrees, I had the special lamb sausage with pasta in tomato sauce and parmesan cheese while my partner had the Filetto al Barbera and it was beyond delicious 😋 Each bite was beyond savory and a delight to eat. Finally, for dessert we had the tiramisu as well as the torta al cioccolato and it was heavenly ❤️ Literally, from the starters to the appetizers to the entrees and the dessert, it was a gourmet’s delight ! Cannot wait to come back to this 11/10 restaurant and try other items on the menu ! Highly recommend it for a romantic couple’s night out or a night out with family and friends 😊
My friends and I came in as a walk-in. Luckily, a table no showed and we were able to be sat. The food and drinks were delicious. Service was perfect. The waitress didn’t hover over us, but always came back to our table at the perfect time. They’re very busy. I highly recommend reservations or walking in as soon as they open. Overall, I definitely would recommend this restaurant in you’re in the area.
Very good
Was really looking forward to dinner, but turned out to be very basic nothing that great. Service was decent, but waited over an hour for the food after we ordered and waiter didnt really care. Split two salads both were average. We then had halibut special anbd was overcooked and under seasoned. Wife had the carbonara and was very dry flavor was decent. Gnocchi was good as it was cooked perfect, but again to dry. Having been to Italy numerous times snd to a lot of goid restaurants around Burlington we expected a lot better. To many other good restaurants to go here again
My husband and I are up here visiting from CT and wanted some high end Italian. This place DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Their bourbon drink specialty was fantastic, followed by braised short rib...we couldnt have been happier. Absolutely recommend and we will be back.
Amazing food
The food was good but the service was really slow
Tucked away like a hidden gem, this Italian restaurant transports you straight to old-world Italy. The atmosphere feels like stepping into a medieval inn nestled between walled cities cozy, warm, and rich in history. The menu is a delightful journey through traditional Italian cuisine, with dishes that are both comforting and inventive. The Brasato di Manzo was a standout, slow-cooked to perfection, with melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that left me savoring every bite. The flavors were so authentic and deep that I genuinely felt like I was tasting Italy itself. I ve heard people say, This is like my nonni s cooking, but here, it s truly exceptional it s as if each dish is crafted with generations of love and skill. The food is plate-cleaning wonderful, and the entire dining experience evokes the warmth of a family gathering in the heart of Italy. Simply put, this restaurant is a treasure for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Italy. A reservation is a must.
Disappointing! Its a beautiful space and nice atmosphere, but the food was just okay and the service was quite poor. Theres definitely better options in Burlington for a nice dinner!
Visited this restaurant over Labor Day weekend and it was a fantastic experience. I had the duck appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. For a main course I had the carbonara and it was excellent, very similar to carbonara I ve had in Rome unlike most Italian restaurants around the US. We also loved the atmosphere. It is very comfortable and romantic. I wish we lived in Burlington so we could visit here all the time!
Ive been going to Trattoria Delia for years and have never been disappointed.
Visiting BURL by boat, and read some compelling 5-star reviews. WOW a quaint, romantic, dark wood environ like being in a private wine cellar where we had a delicious and delightful meal. Started with a hand crafted Aperitif made by a pro, no mixers or bottom shelf stuff. Our server Sarah was also delightful and bubbly, very helpful with our appetizers and seafood entre selections that were nothing short of amazing. After a sumptuous meal we were stuffed and already had doggie bags, then our server said we must try their house Tiramisu and persuaded us to do a take-home she was right again, 2 hours later we wished we had ordered TWO to-go! Trattoria Delia is our new go-to whenever were in town!
The food and the atmosphere here are great. We went to dinner here last night and enjoyed almost everything. We were told about the specials and we decided to share the Porterhouse steak as it was 32 ounces with smashed potatoes. The specials were not listed anywhere and neither were the prices for them. If there was some transparency in the cost we certainly would not have ordered it. Imagine our surprise when the check came and we saw that one meal was $150. Another person in our party ordered the swordfish special and his was only $38. We did order one Porterhouse special as a share between two people. The potatoes were not served smashed yet roasted placed underneath the meat. When the check arrived, the meal was listed for two. While the food was delicious we will not be going back here or to the restaurants that are associated with it. Please advise your servers to let customers know about the cost of their food as this was seemingly highly overpriced. Another idea would be to have the specials listed in writing posting the prices. Even just a little just so you know the cost is... While the food was delicious the cost of the check left a very bad taste in our mouth. We will not be going back.
The food is excellent! Wonderfully flavorful & complex, creative and beautifully presented. Chef Richard is fantastic! Highly recommend
The staff at the restaurant were incredibly sweet and patient with us even if we arrived for dinner near closing time. Food was really delicious and service was fantastic I highly recommend it!
Dinner and service were excellent. Highly recommend!
Bring back the squid ink aioli! Love the food but we come back for the service.
Love, Love, Love this restaurant! I used to visit every year for my birthday. This year I brought my husband for our anniversary! Thank you for helping us make it special!
Excellent!!
My meal at this restaurant was terrible and inedible. I had to send it back and it took so long to get it in the first place that I opted to not get another dish as offered. The bread was delicious and the appetizer was good. My partner s meal was also very mid. I had hoped to like it since it got good reviews but was very disappointed. Maybe it was just an off night for them.
Ive been to Trattoria a few times now and have never been disappointed. The menu is marvelous, every choice is delicious, the service is exceptional, and the ambiance is perfect. I went for the first time to celebrate my anniversary, and I have found lots of excuses to keep coming back since!
oversalted, undercooked, overpriced parody on italian cuisine. dark place with jazz (?) music
First time we came in we didnt have a reservation and were pleasantly surprised by how busy the restaurant was. We were told that we couldnt get a table so we immediately made reservations for the next night and revisited. The spicy mussel appetizer was fantastic! The rigatoni with eggplant was to die for, the sauce was just delicious. I also enjoyed the shrimp and shishito pepper pasta. Chocolate mousse was also great :)
$28 for gummy chitarra pasta, and another $36 for aragosta fra diavolo hammered with citrus. Perhaps they were having an off night, but we won t be going back for a while regardless.
My mom came to visit me in town and we came here. So glad we did. Sat at the bar. Friendly prompt service. Good wine. Delicious bread!!! And I loved my entree: stuffed quail and mushroom risotto. Great flavor, well executed. Oh! And the tiramisu was THE BEST dessert I ve had out! Seriously. I live here in Burlington and don t go out that much anymore because I ve been so let down by really expensive meals that aren t that great. Trattoria was worth it. It was so refreshing to have a fantastic night out with great food and ambience. Mom loved it too and she s a tough critic!
Trattoria Delia is one of my all-time favorite places to dine. The food is exceptional and, as ridiculous as it may sound, I always order two desserts. It s that good!
When a meal begs to be savored, because it deserves to be. That sums up my dining experience.
Great authentic food and great service. It made two Italians feel like we were back in Italy.
Everything was delightful at this place. The food was delicious. They have a great wine list, and servers who know about the wines on it and can make helpful suggestions. The atmosphere was very fun.
The food and service is always consistently great! The manager Jeremy is very accommodating and makes me and my guests feel very welcome! Food
It was good! The service was excellent! Definitely coming back! Food : 5/5
Great food
Amazing food. I also ordered a mocktail, and I think I enjoyed it better than any cocktail I could have ordered it was complex and delicious. Our waiter was extremely attentive, and honestly seemed to just enjoy being in hospitality. He was conscious of food timing (something I dont mind or fuss over, but it was just nice he noticed), and always made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. We also walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night just hopeful we could sit at the bar, and we ended up getting a wonderful table in front of the fireplace. Wouldnt recommend taking the chance we did, though!
Our server was very knowledgeable and extremely polite, I think his name was Nathan! The food was excellent and it came in less than 5 minutes! The server even made me a special mocktail; it was super good. The ambiance was very cozy! Would 100% recommend if you have the budget for it.
It was a wonderful experience! Recommend for: Authentic Italian dish lover, Meat lover, wish to experience high quality dish, date night, important guest invitation Antipasti: Batu (duck confit) Duck confit was perfectly cooked! It was very delicious. The outside crust was just the right crisp and the inside was very soft. The sauce, which I believe it was combination of eggplant and fig, added the sweet and savory taste to the dish - made it perfect overall! Pasta: Gnocchi al Cinghiale (ricotta Gnocchi with boar meat) Any home made pasta at Trattoria will do, but home made Gnocchi was definitely another level. It was a perfect balance of savory with the sauce. There is a reason why so many people recommend Gnocchi. Main: Brasato di Manzo (short rib) One of the best braised short rib we had. It was perfectly cooked, very soft and smooth. The meat melts in your mouth, and the sauce was just the perfect taste. It was a little salty for me (personal preference for low sodium), but with mashed potato, I found my right balance. Our server was exceptional. We were debating among so many wine choices, and she patiently explained all the differences and recommendations. She offered a sample of our few interested wine, which helped us decide which glass to get. Throughout the night, she was very attentive and no matter how busy the place was, we didnt feel ignored or not prioritized.
OK. So lets start with ambiance. Having spent time in Italy back in The Day this reminded me so much of Great little places down in Apulia. Now service. Andrea is a gem. Whatever you folks are paying her pay her more. I was out with my son and his sweetie and we wanted a nice dinner and Space to talk. Andrea was just the right mix of checking on us and letting us have space. Perfect! Now the food. Calamari to die for. Positively the best I have had in years! Then the pasta. Scrumptious. This is my second visit to Burlington and second visit to the Trattoria. I hope for many more! Dietary restrictions: Andrea asked us without any prompt if we had restrictions. We felt that if we had steps would have been taken to make sure we were ok
We called around 6pm to make a reservation for a table tonight and they said they were booked for the night but we can sit at the bar. We sat at the bar for about two hours and half of the tables were empty throughout our stay
Very nice place to celebrate anniversary and birthdays
The best place to eat at in Vermont. Im on a 40 days vegan diet and the chef came to talk to us and explained the menu, made suggestions that arent on the menu to accommodate me. My friend has excellent food (the best hes ever had) he tried the batu entre, duck liver with prosciutto and the classic pasta with pork cheeks. The chef made me a vegan pasta, potatoes and mushrooms as a side dish and a beet salad as an appetizer. Everything was excellent and we definitely recommend this restaurant. The service was great, the bartender and the chef made out night.
The hostess was horrible and we had made a reservation and she put us at the worst table possible in the whole restaurant were you didn t need reservations the rest of the experience was excellent, but it was very difficult to stay after that experience at the front door, she really needs a new career
I always love going to this place when in Burlington. Great food and service.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing!! My dad and I were on a road trip and we happened to stopped in Burlington Vermont I searched up some Italian restaurants near by and found this place. We got to the restaurant and it was beautiful and very cozy looking but they were definitely busy because graduation weekend and because everyone wants to eat there . (Definitely recommend making a reservation) The people working there were so nice and were able to seat us at the bar even though they were packed. My dad got some drinks and loved them but since I am under age I wasn t able to drink alcohol but the bartender was kind enough to make a special non alcoholic mixture for me (delicious). My dad ordered the special pasta for the night and I ordered the fillet (medium). The steak was the best steak I ve ever had in my entire life the steak was so juicy and the sauce topped it off (don t recommend if you like your steak cooked like a piece of coal) while the pasta was creamy and the perfect amount of spicy. We also got some ice cream which was also amazing. Not only was the food absolutely delicious but the service was also amazing, everyone was so nice and friendly, they provided engaging conversation that made us laugh. My father and I live in Arkansas but we would 100% drive all the way up to Vermont again just for this amazing restaurant 10/10 best Italian restaurant in the entire USA and I ve traveled to a LOT of states so I know
Great decor and cozy. Service was great too. The food was not good. We started with the antipasto misto. A snack tray from wegmans is nicer. It had a lot of mortadella, which was completely shocking to say the least. My wife s dinner was very undercooked with the noodles sticking to each other. My dish, the ragu, was also underwhelming. Not sure if it was an off night or not, but I m not going to come back with so many other great meals in Burlington.
Very nice amatriciana and the guys at the bar are superb.
The food was awesome! The waitress had it all figured out!
I recommend making reservations to come here. We went in, because it was pouring outside and we sat at the bar. The food is delicious and made from scratch. It is on the pricey side, but totally worth it!
They really accomodate us, we were traveling from Canada with a baby
The terrace in summer is very pleasant. Refined Italian cuisine: everything was good from starter to dessert. Attentive, simple and professional service. We loved it!
Absolutely ahmazinggggg!!! One of the most delicious Italian meals that Ive ever had. Flavorful and generous..the chef definitely knows what he or she is doing and has great taste sensors.
Great food, nice people.
The drinks are superb and the food was delicious. Both had steak with potatoes and it was great! Definately will be back!
Beautiful ambience and delicious food, this was our second time here because we loved it so much the first time. Sadly, both my husband and I got food poisoning here. He threw up several hours after dinner and Ive had diarrhea for two days. It makes me sad I cant risk going to this charming restaurant again.
Great place to enjoy a good Italian meal.
This is the place if you just want a nice warm, quiet comfort food experience. All the entries are special. This chef artfully crafts each plate. The cocktails won t disappoint either. Parking: Use the mobile parking app. It s easy and inexpensive by comparison.
Food, service, ambience, wine list, cocktails, location - all fantastic. This is a gem of a restaurant. My only wish for better/more veggie options. Broccolini and two potato dishes were our only choices, and the broccolini is to be avoided until they get a more reliable supplier or somehow improve the toughness. Well be back for sure.
Dinner was OK and for the prices they charge OK was disappointing. Service was also very slow to serve food and dessert Food
Thanks for a great dinning experience! Nice wine selection, super friendly staff, and wonderful food.
Me and my boyfriend had such an amazing evening at the bar Wednesday filled with good drinks, amazing food, all recommended by Mary and taken care of so sweet by Mark. Thank you
The service team here is absolutely amazing and it makes the food even that much more delicious. Had the Bolognese, boar pasta, and the arugula pasta. All were excellent.
Hands down a must try if you re in the Burlington area! Comfortable relaxed fine dining atmosphere, complimented by quality service and a delicious menu prepared by skilled chefs. Doesn t hurt to call early for reservations as it is a very popular place in the area. Calamari Fritti appetizer was best Calamari I ve had in a very long time and I had the Rigatoni allá Norma entree but with Alfredo instead of red sauce and it blew my mind. We are definitely looking forward to visiting again when we return to Burlington. Compliments to the chefs and staff.
Solid Italian food option! Service was a bit slow, but the food was fantastic!
Was a super cozy and delicious experience for a date night. Very professional and friendly guy behind the bar serving us. Honestly the pasta was similar in quality to Dedalus... but twice the portion size. Would return in a heartbeat.
The special was so good I had to force myself to slow down so I could enjoy it more
What an amazing place! Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere! The food was melt in your mouth good! It s been years since I ve been here but it was even better than I remembered! The torchio al ragu was incredible and you can t go wrong with the chocolate torte for dessert!
Top notch as always-both food and service.
Always top notch!
Been here multiple times for special occasions. Never fails. The gnocchi, ragú, and short rib are absolute winners. The staff is friendly and the space is perfect for date night.
A constant favorite over the years. Some may consider the decor a little dated, but I call it historic and warm. The service has been reliably good and the food never disappoints. Without alcohol Id expect to spend $100-$140 for a couple to have app and two mains and maybe dessert. Money well spent.
The food was, as always, exquisite. If you are looking for truly amazing Italian food in a cozily rustic atmosphere, this is the place for you. The wine list is extensive and you really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. I will always come back to the Trat to celebrate special occasions, or just for some great food.
Plating was nice, decor is cozy. We really wanted to like the food. It wasn t terrible but it wasn t great either . The special (scallop and mushroom tagliatelle with a cream sauce) was simply underwhelming at best. The espresso had a salty taste (due to either under or over extracting). And dessert was again . Underwhelming.
Great food, nice staff, beautiful establishment. Its definitely worth going to.
One of the best pizzas in the area. Wonderful crust, great sauce, cheeses and toppings. Definitely authentic and fine pizza.
Had a reservation here for birthday dinner and it was a bit underwhelming. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and I liked the overall atmosphere. First, the reservation stated it was birthday dinner but neither the receptionist nor our server noticed that. The food and wine selection were great - I m sure everyone can find something they like here. Most of their pasta is made in house although there are 2-3 kinds that are imported. Our order took about 15-20 mins to get done. I had a specialty pasta with prosciutto and peas. It came with pancetta instead of prosciutto and had no peas. Wine was great on the other hand and so was fresh bread. Butter was very cold and hard to spread on the bread. We also ordered a cake and a cannoli for dessert but cannoli was never delivered. In the end, for $120 you get nice interior, mediocre food, good wine, and subpar service. I was expecting a lot more from this restaurant given the hype but had a pretty average experience for high price.
Disappointed. The food was good but not worth the price. Service was pleasant but inattentive and slow, even taking Covid as a consideration.
Great pasta, very fresh and pure. Would not recommend the cannoli though. Very friendly staff!
Fancy little restaurant. Food was amazing best calamari we have ever had for appetizer. Good size portions as well
Great experience!! Sat at the bar Friday night. Sterling was great
We ate at the bar - mainly because the bar seats have padding and the dining room chairs do not! It feels like you re dining in a cozy hobbit hole. Low ceilings with wood beams, dark but not gloomy. Husband had the swordfish special and I had the gnocchi. Both were excellent and delivered in a very timely manner! The bartender had a fun, dry humor and was attentive but didn t hover. The drinks were well made. It was a good choice for dinner. Notably, a pasta dish that the gentlemen next to us ordered did not arrive with their order. The bartender noticed and proactively said that he d make sure it was removed from the bill but he wanted to make sure they had the opportunity to enjoy it - basically asked in a very classy way if they wanted it at the bar or packed to go. They chose the bar. The Manager then personally delivered the pasta and made chit chat for a few minutes. I love fine dining and I have a fine dining background. Too often nowadays you don t see Managers touching the tables at all - even when there s been an issue - let alone personally delivering re-fires, etc. I noticed and I appreciated the gesture nearly as much as the intended audience! We will definitely be regulars here due to the excellent quality food AND service!
Nice atmosphere, great service and food was amazing. Very happy, recommend highly.
Delicious every time we go! We tried the new caprese appetizer with burrata cheese and the dinner special with homemade, squid ink-infused pasta, mussels, and spicy red sauce. So yummy! We will be back again soon to see all of the lovely staff at Tratt :)
Everything was average. Not bad by any means but not above par either. Had the gnocchi dish in a cream sauce, claimed to have mushrooms but not a mushroom in sight. Plain taste, little bit of truffle oil and the sausage had almost no flavor (could pass as ground beef). Cocktail was excellent, service was good. Just nothing to be wowed by.
Great pasta! Ragu & Gnocchi!!
Great osso bucco.
This place hates corn.
all around great restaurant
The absolute best restaurant in Burlington - can get half portions of all pastas, food is spectacular, service is incredible
Great food and atmosphere!
This place is worth the money Food is amazing Drinks are outstanding, their service and professionalism met the expectations... Well be back....
Cozy, romantic, and a delight for one s palate. Trattoria Delia offers table and bar seating with dishes and specials for all. The staff were friendly, well-versed in all the dishes offered, and perfectly paced our dining experience. We opted to try two of the specials: Italian Escargot and the Ricotta Gnocchi with Wild Boar. Both dishes were exceptional! I am very particular about my gnocchi, and this house made gnocchi were perfect pillows of deliciousness! My dining companion ordered the Veal Osso Buco which was exceptionally tender, and sauced to perfection. Of course, we had to have dessert. I must say that Trattoria Delia has the best Tiramisu which was enjoyed much to quickly! Location: just blocks from Lake Champlain, around the corner from The Flynn theater, and a couple blocks from Church St. Perfect!
Strangest dining experience of my life We were looking to try something new in the area on our annual visit to Burlington and came across Trattoria Delia. We walked in and were told that it would be an hour and 15 minute wait for a bar seat, meanwhile there were several open tables on the floor. We decided to walk over to the restaurant next door named Sotto Enoteca and we were seated within a few minutes. We immediately recognized some of the staff from Trattoria Delia as they were seating groups in the same dining room as us and we were very confused. Later on, the waiter confirmed that they were the same restaurant. We felt uncomfortable knowing that the hostess in the red dress at the sister restaurant told us it would be over an hour wait, but she continued to seat other guests in our dining area. We found it strange that when we were initially turned away at Trattoria Delia, she didn t offer us the option to seat us in their second dining room at Sotto. She avoided all eye contact as she passed our table several times. That set the mood for our dining experience. We ordered calamari, filet mignon, and lobster pasta which were all mediocre. The steak came out rare when we had asked for it to be medium well. The lobster tasted old which was disappointing considering the price. Towards the end of our dinner, a group of 4 young women walked in asking if they had seating available and the waiter turned them away and told them the only open table had a reservation. We left 15 minutes prior to closing and nobody sat at that empty table. It seems like young individuals are not their preferred clientele. Spend your money elsewhere for better service and food!
Trattoria Delia has been a staple restaurant in Burlington for years, and its one of the best places to get some fancy, fresh, homemade pasta. The newer Pascolo gives it a run for its money, but I ultimately prefer the Tratt. I cant name a favorite dish because you cant go wrong with much here. I always go for whatever house-made pasta dish theyre serving and Im never disappointed. It is pricey, but worth it. The last time I visited (October 2022), the staff was very attentive and the waitress was great with listing specials and answering questions. She could immediately tell us which dishes contain gluten, and was quick to recommend a house red to drink with dinner.
I am not sure about this place. Inside, I am reminded of an old-time tavern. I dont know if its by design, or it was an old tavern. It does speak of an older time, but I think it needs to change. Thats just me. The next person might love it. I did not find an inspiring, or attractive cocktail on the menu, so I went with a glass of wine. The calamari appetizer was good, tasty, and plentiful, and they dont add hot peppers to make look larger. But the beet infused salmon, was bland. It needed help. My wife liked her fra diavolo, and it wasnt bad, just not enough lobster. My pork tenderloin was just okay. It was also $39. At that price, I want a white table cloth, not just an old pizzeria brown table. To me, the atmosphere is, as I said, not what I expected. Service was great. Just add table clothes.
Excellent customer service and the food was DELICIOUS! Parking: Street parking
Amazing grotto atmosphere with delicious food. Great time w friends , really enjoyed ourselves
As someone coming from NYC, I didn t have insanely high expectations, but this place proved me wrong! The buccatini was absolutely to die for and I ll be dreaming of the chocolate torte. The cocktails were delicious too, I d definitely come back!
I ordered take out and the gentleman bought it out was so polite and informative. I will definitely be back because service was amazing and food was delicious!!!!
Really good food
Wow...another level!! Amazing...must stop and eat here. There ragu is amazing!!!!! The bread with a special butter....yummy. Service was excellent! Will be back when we visit again for sure!
Delicious food, cool atmosphere (I love old buildings). I had the ragu (pasta was amazing, and Im not a huge pasta lover) and my husband had the ricotta gnocchi (something I love, but not mushrooms). We both loved our meals.
Nice people, good service and decent food. A little bit pricey. Didnt feel it was authentic Italian, but not a bad restaurant. I like the ambiance. Kind of a speakeasy feel to it. Good bread but instead of olive oil and vinegar you get seasoned butter.
This is an excellent Italian restaurant with a charming rustic atmosphere. The gnocchi con fungi and osso buco were perfectly made. They also make a lovely tiramisu. Can t wait to return!
Love the space, food and service! Save room for dessert if you can because all choices are fantastic!
Fresh bread from the oven, attentive staff, and tasty entres. A good spot if you re looking for something upscale
Very good pasta (we had the gnocchi and the bucatini all amatriciana among other). Very knowledgeable service. Would come again
Dinner was EXCELLENT. Service was fantastic. Would definitely go back. I recommend this restaurant highly.
We had an exceptional experience here. The service was top notch and it is really cozy and an intimate setting. Worth mentioning that the temperature inside was really pleasant. It was in the 80s outside and much cooler inside, but the AC wasn t blowing too hard to make a sweater necessary. The warm bread brought out with butter was phenomenal. Cocktail was refreshing. Grilled mozzarella with arugula and a grilled peach for an appetizer hit all the right notes and wasn t too filling to spoil dinner. My husband had half and half ragu and gnocchi. He devoured it all but said the ragu was his favorite. I had the bucatini, which was delicious, but I think I d like to try the ragu or short rib next. It was a great date night and we will be back.
Love the staff and, of course, the food. Highly recommend
Beautiful almost hole in the wall Italian restaurant. It gets really packed so make sure you get a reservation. I went here for my birthday and they seated me in a private corner which was so nice. They also have seating in the back with a scenic decor wall of faux plants that makes it perfect for an instagrm pic. The menu is small as they do specialize, but all dishes are rich and delicious. I had the gnocchi and mushroom plate, and when those mushrooms touched my tongue, I thought I died and went to heaven. They are locally produced mushrooms and they were simmered in a heavenly sauce. I mentioned that my partner and I were guests and staying at a hotel and did not want to bring food back, and the host and waiter were happy to offer a half plate!!! Great service. I highly recommend doing so because the tiramisu was amazing! I have high standards for tiramisu and they use real marscapone cheese, which is mandatory and traditional. Currently has cute outdoor seating as well. Not sure if it will be available as it gets colder.
Going into Trattoria Delia transports you out of Burlington and more to the likes of Milan. We sat at the bar because they were fully booked (they have a pretty small amount of seating so make sure to make a reservation especially on the weekend.) And I had an amazing cocktail, yummy homemade bread a beautiful glass of Italian wine and a delicious pasta dish. The bar tenders were knowledgeable, and the food is so high quality but you dont feel any sort of snobbiness or anything like that - its still casual enough. Its defiantly pricy, but this place is Truly a gem and recommend for a bit of a more special night.
Excellent Italian cuisine and a great atmosphere!
Small, cozy, dimly lit. Maybe the best food we New Yorkers enjoyed in 2021. A definite Do-Not-Miss if in town.
Very quaint little restaurant hiding on St. Paul Street. Make sure you call a day in advance or make reservations online because everyone wants a seat at this place. They were running a special for a veal shank. Never had the pleasure of having the opportunity to order a veal shank at a restaurant before. They cooked it medium rare perfectly. The service of this place is nothing short of impressive. They seated us early. Didnt rush our experience at all. Our waitress explained the specials and menu by memory almost poetically. The cocktail and wine menu are very extensive and bourgeois. Perfect place to take that special someone. Ill be back for pasta next time. Thank you.
Food was delicious!
Seated in a quiet alcove which was nice since the dining area seemed a bit loud. The food was excellent and portions are large. Homemade pasta and Osso Bucco were standouts. Service could have been better as our waiter seemed to forget about us and they were not super busy. Had to get his attention for 2nd round of drinks and more water. Heard him talking to adjacent table that 1/2 orders of pasta were available which would have been nice to know before we ordered.
Wonderful atmosphere, service and food! On vacation in Vermont and this was the third restaurant we visited. Best by far!
great service
Visiting Burlington, we picked Trattoria based on the menu and we were very pleased! The food was excellent!! We had the Batu, the Osso Bucco and the Torchio con Ragu. The staff was terrific! Thanks for the wonderful experience!!
Awesome atmosphere with the real fire place. Food was delicious. Wine was good too.
Everything was delicious... salad, appetizer, main course, dessert. Thank goodness it is still here going strong! Service was excellent too.
This was my wifes and mine second time here. We happened upon this restraunt back in 2016 while visiting Burlington. When we decided to go to Canada for Christmas this year, we specifically planned our route to ensure we would have dinner here one night The overall atmosphere is fantastic. The staff is attentive, friendly, and professional. The food is delicious and cooked absolutely perfectly. They also have a great wine selection. Prices are very reasonable.
Fantastic dinner, peach salad, rigatoni bake with warm bread. Deserts were the bomb.
Really delicious and excellent service
A family favorite for many years. The updates that the new ownership brought with them a couple years back honor the old while adding some wonderful new flair. I had the spinach orecchiette w/ bone marrow and it was magnificent. The only thing that I wish they had was a better beer list. Years ago I had my first flanders red here. You dont see much that stands out from the others here. Too many IPAs and not enough diversity.
Superb food and service
Trattoria Delia came highly recommend to us during our stay. This place has it all. It s cozy and overall welcoming. The portions are perfect and the flavor is absolutely home made. Don t count Vermont out of amazing Italian food. Their pasta and sauce is made in house. Need not to say more. Book ahead of time. This place is definitely a great belly buster. Only negative that I have is that they only had one Cab wine available when we sat down. Other than that, nothing beats a fireplace and good food in the same room. Tutta Pasta - Chin Chin.
Impeccable service, excellent menu, amazing food and wine list. Enjoying wine by the crackling fire in the cozy, intimate atmosphere feels a bit like going back in time.
My husband and I had dinner with our beautiful nieces, we shared appetizers and entrees. The food is so delicious and our waitress was great
Very pricey and the food was okay at best
Trattoria Delia was outstanding in every way...
Delicious food, good service and drinks. Higher end and establishment and price.
So good! Great Italian and wine, cozy spot, good for Burlington.
The best food around. Everytime we go food, service and ambiance are top notch. If you only have one night in Burlington, this is the place to go.
Best best best
Excellent service, food and atmosphere!
The pizza was incredible, and the atmosphere is really fun yet not loud.
I wish I could go back in time so that I could more fully appreciate my first meal here, despite having just finished dessert. Flawless service - Andrea was so thoughtful, helpful, and knowledgeable. The scallops are worth a visit alone (perfectly seared, drool worthy) but I would also recommend the artichokes and panna cotta. Great spot to take family visiting from out of town for a delicious meal.... considering inviting them more often for a great excuse to come back!
Amazing and authentic! Our server, Jason, really went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience.
Loved this spot. The tirimisu is SPOT ON. absolutely must go if in Burlington.
Great Italian food
Great menu, great room. The pear so was amazing!
Easily one of the best restaurants in the area, and certainly on my Top 5 lifetime list. Staff is phenomenally nice and knowledgeable - the latter coming from the fact they have all tasted every dish and had nearly every wine, so they know & care what theyre talking about. And what theyre talking about is expertly crafted and sumptuous Italian dishes. Staples are artfully elevated to new heights and less common (but quite welcome) choices - boar, osso bucco, octopus, rabbit - are creatively and deliciously interpreted. There are a few excellent off-menu items that I wont tell you about, because it makes me feel pathetically cool to know them, and I need all the help I can get. Great ambience, great staff, great food & drink - go soon.
Excellent food, great very friendly service.
Authentic Italian Cuisine! My husband took me here for the first time last night! Impeccable, exquisite! Outdoor seating was romantic! The wait staff are super sweet and helpful! The duck and the house-made spaghetti! Mouth-watering!!! Just try it! You ll thank me later!
We had an amazing 1st anniversary dinner! The magicians in the kitchen plated some outstanding meals and our server was phenomenal, as was the rest of the staff! Thank you all so much for helping our anniversary be great!
Loved it, yes, but there was a couple of issues but the calamari was outstanding. The wild boar gnocchi was fabulous; the duck confit was probably the best we have had. The menu has been reduced to about 50% of the normal as so has the seating (C19 regs) but the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
Cozy ambiance with delicate and flavorful appetizers, pastas, and entrees. Diverse wine selection, prompt and attentive service.
Ill never be able to eat here often enough.
The best Italian restaurant in Vermont. Food never disappoints, service always friendly and knowledgeable. One of my favourite places to eat!
Absolutely wonderful! Since my first trip in 1998, Ive loved this place, and its only gotten better!
The best pasta in VT and one of my favorite restaurants! We went there on our wedding night.
I love this place. Its cute and very Italian feeling. Decent drinks, appetizers were amazing, especially the duck. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is my favorite meal the sausage and mushroom gnocchi has been not as good every time I go. It is less seasoned with each visit which is very disappointing. And obviously like an old Italian restaurant there is no additional salt and pepper at the tables so you cant really correct the issue without making it awkward.
Excellent food and service. Tiramisu was the best I have EVER had.
A great experience overall. The staff was great and the pace of the service was perfect. The food was very good as well. I was particularly impressed with the antipasto assortment and also the grilled artichokes.
Great service, cozy setting and delicious food. The pasta felt homemade, the bread and butter to start were delicious and the flourless chocolate torte to finish was incredible. Highly recommend
An amazing restaurant, with authentic Italian food in a cozy quiet atmosphere. Exceptional service, a good wine selection, and very reasonably priced for the quality of food that you get. The tiramisu was delicious and gigantic. A perfect date night spot
Our meal was delicious and our server Amanda was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
A very special dinner at Trattoria Delia. Everything was wonderful. Loved the grilled artichokes. The Lobster Fra Diavolo was amazing, as was the tuna special. The pistachio gelato was the best ever. Andrea, our server, was great.
Superb wine, decent food but highly overpriced.
Classic Italian dishes prepared with love. Make reservations there is a reason why they always fill the seats.
We love visiting here for a great meal every time were in Burlington
