Chili Dragon Chinese Restaurant (Take Out Only) in Burnaby

I wish I could rate this place below 1 star. My entire family has celiac disease and we all got severely glutened here. When I called the place to tell them what happened they claimed that I was lying and that it is not true. We are throwing up, feverish, have rashes and severe stomach pain. It is not ok to gaslight your customers and pretend that their issues are not valid. When I asked for a refund since that s the least they can do for causing our entire family to be sick, they said that they wouldn t. Do not go here if you have celiac disease!!

The food is horrible and their customer service was barely satisfactory. Young girl was snobbish and not welcoming. This restaurant has no delivery & is take-out only. I ordered chicken fried rice, which had clumped rice, undercooked frozen mixed vegetables, 6 chunks of slimy chicken and burnt scramble egg. A waste of $15 plus change.

Good food but very slow service

I LOVE this place! I am a die hard fan of more traditional food, however, once in awhile I get an insatiable craving for Western style Chinese food and it is actually very annoying as someone who eats gluten free. When I discovered Chili Dragon and realized I could have all the ginger beef my little heart desires, I nearly cried. The Singapore noodles are also a top favourite. My boyfriend who usually hates all my gluten friendly places, will happily eat from this restaurant. Something about the batter not having wheat actually holds up better and stays crispy and hot in the container even for a 20+ minute drive back home. I m sure it would hold up perfectly fine if ordered through a delivery app too. I hope this place stays in business forever, it is seriously a Godsend for those of us with gluten allergies who just want a delicious take out meal free of any concerns or explaining to the staff how to make our meal safe to consume. Also, the servings are huge! Definitely best for sharing or having leftovers. Thank you Chili Dragon! I have been back a couple times and will continue to enjoy as long as I can. The sesame chicken was delicious! Was a little nervous about trying this place, as someone with a few allergies. Called in advance, staff seemed to understand and was reassuring. Definitely recommend!

Quality fresh dishes. Non greasy. Highly recommend this. This is hands down my favourite Chinese food place in the south Burnaby/ New Westminster area. Good portions. I like the option of sauce on the side. I find them on the more expensive side compared to other restaurants around the area but only some by a dollar or two but you re are getting WAY better quality.

Gluten free baby! (Mostly - I dont think the noodles are gf) The sesame chicken is our fav. We order it with beef and broccoli, and prawn fried rice. Im very thankful to have found a realiable gf chinese food restaurant!! They only do take out.

Very tasty food

Wow! Just enjoyed a gluten/dairy/msg-free dinner from Chili Dragon, and it was fantastic! We had salt and pepper fried calamari and it was crispy and tasty; amazed that it wasn t soggy on arrival. It was accented with some jalapeño slices, onions, and green pepper strips - absolutely delicious! For mains we had crispy ginger beef, stir-fried mix veggies, and Kung Pao prawns (and a side of rice). All dishes were fantastic! Sauces seemed authentic and delicious, and each matched the dish (unlike some places that seem to pour the same sauce on everything). The ginger beef had long strips of ginger, almost candy - mmmmm . Also, the beef was in chunks instead of strips - a wonderful beef to crispy coating ratio and better, imo, than the traditional strips. The veggies were fresh and cooked well. All in all this was one of the best Chinese meals we ve enjoyed, regardless of the gluten/dairy/msg avoidance. A perfect combination of spicy, sweet, and salty - great job!! We had three mains and the calamari appie, so too much food for two, but we will definitely be enjoying the leftovers tomorrow. I should add we used Skip for delivery. We ve had some lousy experiences with them, but today was a pleasant exception. Farisha was the driver - prompt, pleasant, and professional. We have a celiac in the family and love that we can all share a gluten free meal. Ginger beef and sesame chicken are my faves. Not super crispy, but we enjoy it nonetheless.

I don t usually write reviews but today I made an exception. I ordered from there about a year ago and the food was great. I was thrilled to find gluten free Chinese food. A few days ago I ordered again. The food was terrible. I ordered sweet and sour pork and beef broccoli. The pork wasn t crispy at all, but the meet was still super dry. The sauce was bland and tasted like a bottle of sauce from the supermarket. The beef broccoli was over cooked. The sauce was overpowering gelatinous goop and both the beef and broccoli were mushy. I don t know what happened with the cook but the food is now almost inedible. Even if you are gluten free, don t waste your money here. Dietary restrictions: They had a lot of gluten free options

Good value, fresh, tasty. I love the gravy with the almond chicken. Updated edit: triple check your take out order, on the phone and when you pick up. The last time I ordered the girl didnt hear an item I ordered and I didnt notice until I got home to eat. I called to ask about it and there was no apology or offer to make it for pick up or delivery. I was hungry and it was my fave dish missed.

This food is very good. My wife has to eat gluten free so we were very excited to discover this place 2 years ago. Gluten free chinese food is so rare and the quality is exeptional. Been a customer since and never disapointed.

We got the BBQ pork lo-mein, spring rolls, and wontons. All three were pretty good. The lo-mein says crunchy noodles. To me that is double fried noodles. To them it is the crunchy, chip like noodles. She tried to explain. Like I said 5 service. Food

Avoid the spicy garlic prawns. Everything else was decent but way overpriced for the quality you get.

A reliable place to order Chinese food. No in store dining

Menu clearly marks what is gluten free with many options available. I am not celiac but need gluten free for Chinese food. It was so good. Hot and tasty. Would be 5 star except its take out only. I would love to bring our whole extended family and share plates as we do other places. Will definitely be back when in the city! Parking: Located in a small plaza of about 6 or 7 stores.

Noodles tasted burnt, lemon chicken was like frozen processed chicken breast, sweet and sour pork and honey garlic pork were very soggy, prawn with mixed veg has a weird sauce on it and was like soup with soggy veggies. Poor quality ingredients poor cooking skills. $110 to pick up a dinner that wont be eaten.

For me this was a generous 2. I ordered chicken fried rice and lemon chicken. It was very oily.. more than your usual Chinese food. Everything was very bland and cost $30 for the 2 item. Service was good, restaurant appears very clean.

We were excited for our annual Christmas Chinese food experience; usually done on Christmas eve but we were slow. Happy to find this restaurant open on Christmas Day, we ordered $90 worth of Chinese food at 4:30 but we re told we would have to wait until 8 o clock for pickup. Ok, we ll wait. When we picked up our order at 8:00, it was coolish, meaning it sat for quite some time. I wish they would have called us to tell us it was ready earlier. After we heated up our food and started eating it, we found that all of the vegetables were hard, even after I cooked them for another 10 minutes, some of them were still hard. It was very difficult to eat. Also, considering it s takeout, there were no napkins, chopsticks and, sadly, no fortune cookies in the bag. This was the first time I ve been disappointed with my Christmas Chinese food dinner. That said, the Black Bean chicken, other than the tough vegetables, was very tasty.

Ordered through Uber Eats and their dishes are so expensive $19 for the Chow Mein, not worth it at all. And the small hot and sour soup was $14 at least! Maybe I will try in person one day, as the chicken was a good portion.

This place is incredible. We were so excited to find somewhere that can make celiac-safe gluten free Chinese food and were blown away by how delicious everything was. Cannot recommend enough - we will be regulars!

Good food

It is more fusion than Canadian Chinese food. I ve been gluten free for 1yr half and was excited to try here. Food came piping hot despite our Uber driver being a bit late. Loved that they do care about food sensitivities of the customers however, it s sooooo sweet! Even the spicy dish. Flavour was good and tasted less MSG but it s too much sugar my tongue was tingling. We probably won t order from here again but if you cannot eat gluten due to dietary restriction , maybe try a smaller combo instead.

The best gluten free Chinese!

The fried rice was steamed rice with scrambled eggs mixed in. There was no crispy bits, the chicken in it looked anemic. The spring rolls had a stale taste. The sweet and sour pork sauce lacked flavor and was over sauced and mushy. This was probably the worst take out I have had in a long time. I do not know how they have a 9.8 on skip the dishes. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the dishes we got. I will not order from here ever again.

The fried rice is fantastic, very fresh, but their chicken is dry and they are a bit pricey for what you get. Also, its like traveling back to March 2020 when you go there to pick up your food. There is no dinning there, only take out, there is two tables set up for pick up and skip / uber, the interact machine is covered in plastic and the staff are behind plexiglass. They are obviously terrified of Covid.

Dont be misled by the excellent reviews, this is mediocrity incarnate. Overly sweet, flavourless sauces, and Chow Mein that tastes like it was scrapped from the bottom of a dirty wok. Surely going hungry would be better than wasting your money.

Not only is it good Chinese food, but it s the only gluten free Chinese food my wife can eat, as she has a very sensitive gluten allergy. Good quantities, and she s never been glutened.

The food ordered last night was not very good. Orange chicken overly breaded and the chicken itself dry, the sauce for the chicken came on the side and the chicken was flat and unconventional, as we had expected chicken to be in balls (similar to a sweet and sour pork cut) and doused in the sauce. Beef ho fun flat noodles didn t have much beef, no flavour and very little greens. (The photo does not show the full amounts as we had forgotten to snap a picture prior to playing)

Good food but over priced $24 for salt and pepper squid? They are charging 50-60% more than other Chinese food places

I have been craving sesame chicken for ages, but can t eat it because it s always made with gluten. All the fried meats in this place are gluten-free, so I could finally get it! We got the orange beef, sesame chicken, house fried rice, and curried veggies. The sweetness of the beef and chicken together was a bit much for me, but everything was delicious! Surprisingly, the fried rice was my favorite out of everything. It was perfectly made and incredibly flavorful. The curried veggies were okay, but tasted a bit bland. They were decent when I maxed them with some of the sauce from the meat. It was so much fun to have Chinese food options again and I d definitely eat here again!

Don t have individual combos when they re busy. I guess they don t want my business. Not the best way to treat customers

I just wanted to give this place a review after I had went there for my first time last night I will tell you I love my fried rice I thought Id try this place out well I tell you I was not disappointed this was the best fried rice Ive had when I walked in there the girl at the counter was very friendly really nice staff even though you just walk in there and you pick up your food the girl at the front desk was very nice I got home and I ate that race it was so good I was like wow never again I will order from anywhere else and I look forward to trying different things from this place because Im sure its just as good as the race I had very delicious Im definitely going to order from this place for now on when it comes to getting Chinese highly highly recommend this place do not go anywhere else this is the one place you need to go to excellent and delicious food thank you again truly dragon my tummy was happy so was I

The food here is amazing! Always piping hot at pick up, and so delicious. I was so excited to find somewhere that does gluten free Chinese food, but even my gluten eating family members think this is some of the tastiest Chinese food they have ever had :)

I noticed this little restaurant on my way back and forth between work lately. I always wondered if it was open, or if it was good. Tonight my partner and I were looking for chinese food on Uber eats and noticed Chili Dragon. The food arrived hot, fresh, and well packed. The portions for the individual combos were HUGE, and the order came with an adorable hand written note attached to delicious fortune cookies! We will absolutely be ordering from Chili Dragon again! My wife and I ate here for the first time tonight and it was amazing. We eat all over town and especially Chinese food. It was all hot, fresh, perfectly cooked and packaged in an amazing container that kept the combo items all separate. Sorry I didnt take pictures, it was all too tasty. This is a great new Chinese food restaurant in the busy Canada way and Edmonds strip mall. We ordered a few items to get a feel for the place. Service: such friendly and helpful service. When I called in the gal I spoke to was just lovely. Such a nice departure from the terse customer service received at other restaurants. Restaurant interior: the new owners renovated the space in a fresh and modern way with neutral colours, nice tables and pretty lighting. It will be very nice to eat in when dine in is an option again in BC. Food: Individual combo with chow mein, sweet and sour pork and beef vegetables. The chow mein was awesome, not too dry with nice pieces of chicken breast. Sweet and sour was plentiful and I found the sauce perfect- not sickly sweet. The beef vegetables was a bit disappointing as it was mostly bok choy with one piece of carrot. The beef tasted a bit odd too but the sauce was delicious. Singapore noodles: really good quality ingredients were let down by an overly floral tasting curry powder. No curry powder is created the same so hopefully they can change this up? Vegetable fried rice: I loved the type of rice used, a short grain similar to a broken rice. Was a great dish with all the various veggies. Kung pao chicken: what a great dish! Full of flavour, huge pieces of white chicken and lots of veggies. Wasn t spicy enough for my husband but I thought it was perfect! We just added some chili flakes to his! Overall, a great first experience and we are keen to return and try some other dishes. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

We got delivery and it came so quickly and was the perfect temperature. Everything was delicious and the portions are great. We had the chicken chow mein, kung pao tofu and sweet and sour pork. It was delicious. The pork wasnt fatty at all, which is what we find from some other places. Definitely will order again!

I received a hand written post card when I ordered my dinner tonight on Uber Eats. What a lovely experience and extremely delicious food for a celiac such as myself! I couldnt tell the difference between gluten free and non gluten free dishes.

Delicious and so satisfying. I have been hunting for good gluten free Chinese food ever since I moved to Vancouver, and it is good. Driving from the restaurant to my home in Coquitlam; the ginger beef was still crispy and there was none of that xanthum/usual GF taste(shouldn t be surprised considering they choose to make their own sauces). So happy and so worth the drive.

I must say I think this was the best chinese food I have ever eaten. We ordered take out and walked the food home as we live nearby. The food was still too hot to touch on the bottom of the Togo containers. We got the dinner for 3. We barely made a dent in the portion sizes, we will have left overs for a few days. The vegetables were crisp so were the spring rolls. The chicken Chow Mein was outstanding. We loved everything. They hand wrote a note and the fortune cookies were hand made, they definitely went above and beyond to ensure a good meal!

No idea how those raving reviews come about. Ordered the sambal chicken, roti and curry veggies and totally disappointed. The sambal chicken were just chicken strips mixed with veggies and nothing sambal at all. All items were bland and tasteless

they went above and beyond to make my order complete and to my liking including making a dish vegetarian that normally includes beef. they included a handwritten note to thank me for my order. the food was really good, probably the best Ive had since moving to Burnaby 10 years ago. It has been years since being diagnosed celiac that I have had chinese food. Thank you Chili Dragon for making so many dishes that are gluten free (safely with a separate deep fryer and everything), so that everyone can enjoy. I ordered take out and it was still piping hot after my 15 minute drive home. Portion sizes are plenty large, there was enough for two of us to have dinner, and then lunch and dinner the next day! We cant wait to come back again, and also visit when we can sit in at the restaurant. 100% will recommend you to all my friends and family, gluten free or not!

I ordered from this place a few times and they have pretty good food but this time I ordered sesame chicken and saw a piece of hair in my food. Really disappointed because I enjoy their food and the sesame chicken was really good but I had to throw it out.

the crispy ginger beef, was a little bit too battered, i only tasted oil & the seasoning, it was hard to tell if there was any actual meat in there, on the plus side the chicken fried rice was good, i liked the texture, i guess that can be attributed to the gluten free ingredient, also the customer service was good, all in all i might return to try something else, the jury is still out.

Finally ordered take-out for the first time yesterday, although had to wait for 1.5 hour before pick up but it was so worth it! Been trying to order from here the last couple times, am so glad our family have waited yesterday. Everything we ve ordered: sesame chicken, chicken skewers, ginger beef, house special fried rice, house special chow mein, beef flat noodles, oh and their kung pao tofu were all so delicious. Recently had take-out from here and what a treat! I havent had Chinese food in approximately 10 years due to being gluten free and they had so many great options it was hard not to try a bit of everything. Will definitely be ordering again next time we are out near Burnaby.

This is quite honestly the best Chinese food I ve had in as long as I can remember. There was a clear attention to detail with each of the dishes, with a focus on quality, value and freshness. Crisp vegetables, amazing cuts of meat (and I m quite picky). I buried the lead here because their menu is mostly gluten free (and by mostly gluten free I mean I had SO many options to choose from that I was legitimately overwhelmed). My partner is not gluten free and she still felt just as impressed as I was at the quality and taste. No heavy greasy feeling that usually accompanies a heavy meal like this. We will be back for sure, looking forward to trying more - this unassuming spot is my new go-to!

We had the sesame chicken and the beef broccoli and both dishes were delicious. I have celiac disease and had no allergic reaction whatsoever I strongly recommend this restaurant!

Ordered take out tonight and this food seriously blew my mind! Tasted so fresh and delicious. I was thrilled to have tons of gluten free choices since finding Chinese food that is gluten free is very rare. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer!! I got to enjoy all my old favourites- I have only had Chinese food twice in 8 years (once in Seattle and once in Victoria). Seriously, you need to order this! My friends who are not gluten free said they couldn t tell it was gluten free AND they they thought it was amazing quality and taste as well. I highly recommend.

So nice to be able to order for delivery gluten free food suitable for someone with Celiac Disease! It has been over 40 years since I have been able to order in real Chinese food - I have always had to cook it for myself and it is just not the same!

This was our first experience at Chili Dragon and it certainly wont be the last. Having celiac disease in the family complicates enjoying good takeout, but weve been reading the reviews and took the plunge last night. We picked sweet and sour pork, special fried rice, and chicken vermicelli with the noodles replacing the chow mein to make them gluten free. All three dishes were excellent and now the only questions are what to pick next! The sweet and sour pork was different from other SSP (probably from the non wheat flour coating) but it was really to the benefit of the pork since the dish was all about the pork, and not necessarily about the coating or the sauce which was just the right amount. there was sauce there, but it wasnt overloaded. The special fried rice was delicious and not at all greasy as some can be. The prawns were lovely and the whole dish was very enjoyable. The chicken vermicelli was also very flavorful with the noodles being an excellent substitution! It was well worth the 30 minute drive each way, and as I said when I was there I will definitely be back. Thank you chili dragon for a great meal!

Ordered from here tonight through skip. It was fantastic, arrived super hot, fresh and delicious. Ordered lots of the basics for the kids and they loved it. Weve tried so many places and this place was so much better then the others. Will order again for sure. They also wrote nice notes on the bag and dishes to let you they were hot saucy. Loved it!!!! We just discovered this place. Very happy to finally find a gluten free Chinese joint. Granted not all of the dishes are but most of them are. We travel at least 20mins away for takeout and its worth it.

Oh my goodness! So excited to try this place for Gluten-free food! We used to drove to North Vancouver but will definitely frequent here. The food was piping hot and absolutely amazing! I would recommend anyone who is gluten free to try here! Dedicated fryer all SOO many options to choose from.

INCREDIBLE - The food was SO GOOD, and had tons of gluten/dairy/nut free options. I have celiac disease, which means my body has a severe reaction to gluten... and I had zero reaction. I felt good after eating it and energetic the next day. I am so impressed.

You spend money here! But wont let you borrow the washroom? How did you get your building permit for a restaurant with no washroom? What are you gonna do when people are allowed to sit in and dine? No washroom? City of burnaby should dig into the archives and see why there isnt a bathroom for the patrons.

We were super skeptical given our experience with other restaurants offering gluten-free Asian food, but this blew us away. The Ginger Beef is heaven. The king pap chicken was super flavorful. Well worth the massive MSG hangover the next day.

Im a celiac and just had an order from this place, and Im super thrilled! I ordered the sweet and sour chiicken, garlic chicken, vermacelli noodles, ginger beef, veggie fried rice and it was allll so so good! Im just so happy to be able to be able to eat Chinese food- gluten free! And GOOD yummy comfort Chinese food! Love it! Also, found the value so so good!

Thank you so much for opening a gluten free Chinese Restaurant!!! Having a partner who is gluten sensitive can make dining out a challenge, and we are generally restricted to a handful of places that she can eat. But being able to order gluten free dishes off of your menu without worry of what we were getting was delightful. And the food was absolutely delicious! I didnt miss the gluten at all! I wish you guys great success with your restaurant, and we will be back soon.

Very happy with the delicious gluten free options in the menu.

Everything was great except wasnt a huge fan of the chicken fried rice. Seemed more like steamed (including the chicken in it). Everything else was super good though. Next time Ill just get the chow mein instead This was a while ago but forgot to review at the time.

We ordered from Chili Dragon through doordash to our hotel room. Everything was delicious and very well packed for us! Very happy with the vast array of gluten free choices and this is the first time Ive been able to eat something breaded from a Chinese food place in a very long time! Chili dragon is one of, if not the best Chinese I ve had since we moved here. We have ordered 4x In the last 5 months snd will keep ordering! The salt and pepper tofu is amazing. We really love the chow mien! Will keep returning as it s our go to place!

This place is awesome! Almost everything on the menu is gluten free and Celiac safe. We had take out and everything was great! Nobody could tell the food was gluten free. They are busy so plan to order at least 45 min ahead of when you want to pick up if during meal times.

Very good food! My wife has celiac and we finally have a Chinese restaurant that we can eat at.

I m celiac and eat here with NO issues!!! The ginger beef, orange beef, sesame chicken and fried rice are my favourite items. I can t tell you how incredible it is to be able to enjoy Chinese food again after 12 years!!!!!! My non celiac family enjoy the food too of course

I had ordered food from them and the Skip driver forgot one of the bags from my order at the restaurant. Our food arrived and after some time with Skip customer service (which wasnt great) I was issued a refund and I re ordered the missing items. When my replacement food arrived (and it arrived very quickly, the estimate was 80 minutes and it was here in 40) I found a note attached! Not only had the restaurant noticed I had reordered but they apologized for the missing food and included some amazing Roti. 10/10 amazing food and amazing customer service. They also have a wide variety of gluten free items! Ive been looking for a good gluten free Chinese restaurant forever.

I have not had Chinese food in SO LONG. As a celiac I was very nervous, but i just HAD to have it, and decided it was worth the risk to try it at least once. I had the sweet and sour pork, sesame chicken, pork fried rice, ginger beef, and some flat rice noodle dish. It not only tastes the same as gluten versions I have had in the past, it was even better, very fresh, very delicious. I do wish they had take away gluten free soy sauce, or tamari, but oh well. It is a long drive for me to get from here, but worth it! Dont hesitate. The portions are also very generous. Will be making the trip every time the craving hits and I dont want to prepare myself!

Finally finally a gluten free Chinese food restaurant. The food is sooo good. I highly recommend this place.

I am severely Celiacs and their gluten free food is actually Gluten free. They use GF soy sauce too. Glad to finally get my chinese food fix! Very impressed overall.
