I don't know why there are people giving them bad reviews, seems to me they are just expecting Michelin level service and flavour. This is a family own small restaurant not a fancy restaurant. I love the food here. Always great portion and taste fantastic. I'll come back every week!
it was our first time ordering from this restaurant, so we were hoping it'd be a nice experience and we could make it part of our rotation of favourite restaurants! we ordered take out sunday morning (about 9), scheduled for the same day at 12:05, since we were having people over for lunch, we wanted the food to be ready on time. however, we had to wait a whole 30 minutes after arriving there at 12:05 despite having asked them to prepare the food in advance. as a result, we were late to our own lunch - isn't that ridiculous? when we expressed our disappointment, they didn't even respond with an apology. we ordered 6 dishes, and the 2 most expensive dishes we ordered they swapped out for random cheap dishes without letting us know - we only found out after we got home. still, the receipt says they made us pay for the dishes we ordered but didn't get! they scammed us. the food was slightly below average. no one touched the two dishes that they subbed in randomly because it was not what any of us liked or wanted. the 4 dishes we ordered and got, when compared to other chinese restaurants, is mediocre at best. extremely disappointed in their poor service.
New management again and they raised all the prices by 2 dollars and got rid of all the lunch specials/dinners for 1 and the specials with rice which were a good cheaper option for one person. They also got rid of a couple of dishes I liked like the Mapo Tofu (although they had changed the recipe to that one and I didn't like so I guess it's for the best) Probably still good for large group orders of multiple items and for parties but no longer a good option for a quick lunch for one person sadly. If the recipes didn't change I recommend the Beef Brisket Noodle Soup and their sweet and sour pork.
Ordered take out (noodles and fried rice). The food looks good, but it is super greasy and there are lots of MSG. Wonder if they change the chef. Got super thirsty and also stomachache for days. Have to throw everything away after all. Do not recommend and stay away from this place.
This place used to be good, but I had a different experience today. I ordered seafood and vegetable chow mein, specifying crispy noodles, but the dish arrived with a lot of sauce and soggy noodles. The sauce had soaked into the noodles, and I couldn’t finish them. I’ve had this same dish here a few times before, and it didn’t look like this. It seems like they may have changed management or the chef. The portion was also much smaller than what I had last time. I understand that food costs are rising and don’t mind a smaller portion, but at least maintain the quality and taste.
We got the dinner for 2 and couple of other dishes.. the waiter let its swap one of the dishes out of the dinner for 2. Which made my wife and o happy they did that.. all in all the meal was very tasty.. the workers are friendly.. can’t say anything bad about the place..
Tried their honey garlic spareribs and their sautéed greens with garlic and both were pretty solid, fresh, and tasty. The honey garlic spareribs could have been a bit crisper but it still tasted good. The price for the greens wasn’t cheap and a bit high in my opinion but the portions for both dishes were good. Tasted much better than food court Chinese food and up to restaurant type Chinese food standards.
This is legit your go to authentic Chinese restaurant! If you know what wok hei is, then you will get it at this restaurant! (If you don't know check out uncle roger haiya 😂) I think it's under new management. The owner works both front and back of the house. I noticed lots of takeouts (10% off pickup) I ordered several classic dishes a d they did not disappoint. I got the scrambled egg and shrimp on ho fun (flat noodles), honeymoon fried rice and deep fried tofu.
The number of home-style Chinese restaurants is decreasing, so its valuable. The vegetables are fresh and delicious. Its no surprise that this store has been around for a long time and is still in business.
If I could give six stars for the service That we received today I would. Lady was working alone, but she kept a smile on her face and gave us an amazing service. Amazing food as well.
Tastes great, very big portions, nice personnel and atmosphere
very good service and food. Highly recommended. Love all the dishes here.
This is literally the best Chinese food I have eaten in the Lower Mainland in over 10 years. No MSG, always fresh ingredients, never greasy, and absolutely delicious!
My go-to Chinese restaurant. I love the special combination plates.
A good place to grab Chinese food in the area. Its authentic and fair priced Parking: Free parking lot in the mini mall. Not lots of stalls, but its not busy Food : 4/5 |
Food was delicious it was very tasty. The restaurant itself was very clean and the servers are very nice and kind!
Really value priced place for lunch
Impressed is a understatement for the size portion Vs Price we have been back several times and the new management has done a great job taking over I feel the dishes are more fresher and even better tasting well done
Food was good. For a small independent restaurant, the place is clean, food is tasty, service was good, and most of all reasonably priced. Another thing to note is that they didnt skimp on food portions. It is a good relief from all the low value, high-priced restaurants out there.
Love the crispy fried noodles
The price is affordable and the food is good . It s worth going for a meal if you are usually too lazy to cook.
Its an amazing restaurant, really good food with amazing portions with affordable prices, and really friendly waiter! Really recommend at least trying this place out. The food is fresh, affordable, and is a gem.
Classic Chinese American food. With a menu of over 300 items, youre bound to find something you like eventually.
Had the large House War wonton soup. Soooooo yummy !! Enough for 2 meals! MSG free too. The broth was yummy as was the wontons, shrimp, pork and veggies. Will be back for sure Parking: We actually walked around deer lake park first then walked from there to restaurant
Ordered a dinner for two set after visited the Burnaby village museum , each dish is super nice, love it. The portion also more than enough to serve 2 ppls, hving a very great experience here for the dinner.
Good food and service is always good. Very attentive
If you are Peruvian and you miss your Peruvian Chifa... I recommend you visit the restaurant and taste their dishes. You wont regret it.
Its under new management. The food is ok.
Ordering from a place called deer lake wonton that (falsely) advertised free delivery... Changes me almost $10 for delivery when I live literally 4 blocks from deer lake? You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Dont waste your money on this business people!
Took out the dinner for 2 B. Kids loved it. Still had left over with 2 adults and 2 little kids. Not too salty and lacks the kick of MSG but much appreciated. Generally tastes good and homey.
Potion small and taste no good ,no service
Love the crispy noodle
Such an amazing place to enjoy tasty, quality food. This family really cares about the products their providing. Superb customer service that is genuinely authentic. I love the wonton soup and spicy ginger beef. However I ve tried many items and there all outstanding. Fresh ingredients and huge portions. I ve always had a great experience here and the food keeps me coming back, no matter how far the drive.
Ordered large shrimp wonton noodles in soup. I find at home that there s no noodles.
Hidden gem in Burnaby
So delicious! Friend recommended their crispy noodles and salt/pepper items so we tried - soooooooo crispy the noodles this is no joke! The salt/pepper squid was very flavourful as well :) not too spicy if the jalepeno pepper doesn t touch the piece (my kids could eat those pieces) fried beef noodle was authentic :) lovely place nice and clean. Perfect treat for after a walk around deer lake park :)
Old style Cantonese food. Really tasty, no msg, not oily
Hidden gems Sweet and sour pork is a must!! Yummy
Its a small quiet chinese restaurant. The sweet sour chicken is fresh and crispy (right amount of sauce). We also tried two different kind of fry noodles and both of them are good. I am fairly sure they dont use msg cuz I was not thirsty after. The owner is very friendly and they use eco friendly take out boxes (paper one). The floor is clean and its kid friendly. There is no fancy decoration. I will go back again to try the dinner menu. Most of the dishes are under $20. Its a reasonable price within this neighborhood. Kid-friendliness: Its clean and quiet.
No thanks we just ordered door dash Big mistake YUK RAW
Good is decent. Prices are good. Parking can be a pain. Nice neighborhood Chinese restaurant.
Good food
Tasty Chinese food, nover greasy
It was our first time to have dinner. The three of us ordered three dishes. The food was pretty good, but we had to order one of ours. Maybe there were more takeaways.
Food come out fast. Willing to serve well.
The Deer Lake best kept secret. If youre heading to the VSO or just an evening out in the park during summer. Order your food from here and get yourself the best hot picnic food you could ask for that everyone else will be jealous of. Delicious and fresh. Its one of my fav things to do around here. The combos are amazing value and well...I come back every year and do the same thing when I am out this way.
Small hidden gem. Good Chinese food. The fried squid with salt and hot pepper is great and the crispy chow mein dishes are great too.
Love the crispy fried noodles
Food and sitting is ok. The owner is the only server there, she is friendly and nice but you cant expect good service. This is small local business and there is room to improve everything. Parking: Parking is limited to share with other business. This restaurant is located on Canada Way which is very busy and no side street parking.
Food do not taste as good as before.
Xiamen noodles comes with no flavour and a hint of pork, shrimp and veg.
Awesome spot for Chinese food! Service is prompt and friendly. Good wok fire on the food
Ordered the veg noodles for takeout. It was simply perfect, the texture, salt level, and ingredients. Will definitely visit here again soon
The first time I came here was around 1997. During the epidemic, we only had takeout. The quality was good and the quantity was substantial. In other restaurants, due to rising prices, the lunch boxes were only 2/3 full. Xinluhu was very solid. Just visited here again on 2021/12/22. Now there is a new owner, new menu and of course new prices. Prices are up a lot but quality is much better. I will definitely come again and more often.
First time ordering from this restaurant. Prices and proportions are pretty reasonable. I ordered a shredded pork with tofu and eggplant. There are special combos at a lower price, will definitely try it next time!
Eggplant shredded pork and tofu burger is not authentic and doesn t look like Hong Kong style
The portions are large, the prices are affordable, and the dishes are varied and delicious, suitable for all ages.
It seems that this store was run by a new owner last year, and the food production and dining environment have improved a lot! Worth a visit!
Had a fabulous dinner, everything was delicious, fabulous service and my favourite was the Crispy Ginger Chicke.
solid chinese food, nice restaurant. i ordered dai ching boneless chiken & spicy dry garlic boneless pork . both came in decent portion enough for 2 people. overall i am happy with the experience and will return.
Decent food, reasonable prices
Very nice food and exceptional service. Their Crispy Ginger Chicken is delicious!!!
The dry-fried beef river is large in quantity, affordable and delicious, and the proprietress is very enthusiastic. A great place to eat after visiting the park, highly recommended
Ordered food for delivery. Found small bones in beef dish and missing sweet and sour sauce for sweet and sour chicken balls. The chicken was bland without the sauce. We will not be adding this restaurant to our regular Chinese food rotation.
Deep Fried Pork Chops with Chili & Salt is very delicious. I love this place for dinner time.
Second time here, foods are so yummy!!!! For sure I will come back again:)
This restaurant did not open for dine-in before, but after changing the owner, it reopened for dine-in. The food production and environment have been greatly improved, and it is worth a try!
Best Chinese food around! Clean place.
Their best item is the Honey Garlic Boneless Chicken. Worth every penny.
The staff were super busy on Mothers Day. They kept working hard and provided great customer service and great tasting food. I will definitely order food again!!! I was very impressed.
They charge double for their delivery food, this should be criminal
We were skeptical of the restaurant at first, but the food denied all speculations; especially the fried rice because the chefs used less oil, yet it was still rich in flavor. Delicious food and friendly family owned restaurant, will definitely come again.
Food poisoning. Was sick for days. Avoid!
So I Ordered delivery from them for about 6 months about 1 a week ..ordering between $40 and $60 orders at time ....1 time big servings great food .....everytime after that orders started getting smaller ...dinner for 2 was like a dinner for 11/2 people ...then prices went up...okay foods good ...now they want $4.00 to deliver the food ...which always free delivery...wont be ordering from them again Oh fyi...I ordered from them about 5 years ago ....and when starting to take food out of bags to cockroaches came out of the bag as well ...why I stopped ordering from them in the 1st place ....so check your bags
Outstanding meat! Big portion soup! Very friendly staff!
Thoroughly enjoyed this lovely and elegant setting whilst dining here for lunch recently. THX
Very good authentic Chinese restaurant. Authentic place!!!
Dinner with family (3 men + 4 women + 2 kids). Hands down the best chicken I have had!
so far one of the best chinese food in the area!
The food was outstanding and served fast in a busy Saturday night. Would definitely dine again.
The meals and service were beyond my expectations.
Amazing Chinese restaurant! Maybe the best in Burnaby.
top quality!
Nice simple Chinese restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. I particularly liked the deep fried pork chops with spice and salt
I was in the area with my friend and we decided to give this place a try I tried the vegetable wonton soup it was a very big bowl it tasted Allright and the price was reasonable the service was okay.
I recently went to this restaurant to order some barbeque pork fried rice after when I got home I was already to sit down and eat and after having a few bites I found the rice undercooked really hard and very and tasteful the other thing was the vegetables that they put in there were raw felt like it was chewing on stones
Very small place but food is good
First time eating here in a long time! service was very friendly and the food was delicious. I recommend the ginger beef it was very crispy and full of flavour.
It is really good and certainly beat expectation. I am cantonese and to be fair it is hard to find cantonese style chinese restaurant in Burnaby now a days. And my wife and I are both very satisfy with the dish they recommended (soy sauce halibut and fry tong choi) They feature themself as no msg restaurant. In that case they certainly know how to cook delicious food. I feel like the best dish will always be their feature dish that is written on the wall rather than the one on their usual menu. So dont feel shy to talk to he staff. Will certainly come back. Cantonese support cantonese!
Very tasty, no MSG
Yummy food and good service!
Good Parking: Strip mall
This is an authentic chinese restaurant. The food quality is above average. The price is very reasonable considering the food portions. The food is really good. We tried the halibut and the beef vegetable dishes and they were fantastic. We will go back soon.
Good Chinese food. No msg in the food , prices are reasonable
Best wonton soup - I go out of my way to bring some home for us! Love that there s no shrimp due to our allergies - truely the best tasting not salty like most broths are - & great portions of everything .
Really really really good wonton soup. I like that they make it without shrimp.
Good hot chines food
Don t be fooled by the reviews. This is far from authentic Chinese food. It s essentially cheap fast Chinese food. Cheap prices, but you get what you pay for.
Wonderful restaurant and friendly staff: we got take-out. Everything is clean and orderly (1 customer at a time to carry out). Good quality and nice portions, fast service. I really like that the soup is packaged nicely for take out. We ve always had a good experience coming here. I highly recommend trying something, they have so many options. im very happy with their meatless options and I love how they have SO many combinations for people who enjoy meat and seafood. I like that they offer so many things with mushrooms. A diverse menu. Honestly, it s fun to look at the menu because there s so many unique combinations with the usual favourites. I would love to share this restaurant with a friend from out-of-town or for a family dinner or even for group where everyone could try something or have something special to them. I really like the chowmein with soy sauce, and my parents really like the wonton soup. They also offer catering (up to 200!) and have family dinner specials (dinner for two, dinner for eight, etc).
No soup with order
There are a lot of food you can eat under 9 $ . Great deal, very delicious
Ordered from them to support a small buisness never again I ordered for delivery and had to throw out all the food because it made me so nauseous the meat was the worst
The girl is not very friendly I went with my coworker service was kind of weird
My first and last time ordering from here. Beware - Misleading Menu. I ordered diced chicken with cashew nuts for $15.35 and majority of the dish was carrot, celery and peas. The shrimp fried rice ($14.25) was drenched in oil and had very little shrimp and had a ton of veggie filler. The beef with broccoli ($15.35) was lacking the meat portion..They should re-name the dish to broccoli with 3 pieces of beef.
Good value.
As of may 24th 2020 they seemed to be not open still
Awesome loved the food
BEST CANTONESE/CHINESE CUISINE! I was going to call this BEST CHINESE FOOD. But there are so many varieties of Chinese Food. What makes this the best? VALUE: Quantity and quality cannot be beat. AUTHENTICITY: Im tired of Chinese restaurants catering to old style Canadian Chinese food. This is old style Cantonese food. What to get? Crispy skin chicken, shrimp fried rice, green bean in black bean sauce. You can also get cantonese chow mein... but get it home soon the crispiness goes away the longer it sits.
Passed by this place many times and finally decided to give it a try. It is authentic cantonese food without any bells and whistles. Decent portions so you wont leave hungry. They have wonton in the name, but their wonton is so-so for me. The wontons are meat based and I like my wontons with fresh shrimp or prawn. Not a bad place if youre hungry and craving Chinese food.
Great food with great value, cant say much more.
The food is great. Best for take out. They have lunch specials which you should take advantage of.
nice customer service located in a quiet spot, yummy food and no monkey business.
Great place for lunch! Several options for less than $10 and includes soup course. Fresh ingredients and very friendly staff!
Friendly staff and service and good food
Was in a shady place. Closed for holiday? Why not tell us on Google maps. Wasted some time going there.
Food is good bur server needs to be more polite to costumers!
Best Ginger Beef in all Lower Mainland hands down. Best Chinese food in Burnaby.
Excellent value for tasty, authentic Chinese food. Nostalgic meals all give a home cooked style. Casual and friendly staff with fast service. Ample free parking and they also accept Visa.
Needs an update
excellent food quality. I got the pan fried beef & rice noodle and it beats most places I have been to.. and the prices.... omg.. it is so affordable.. where can you get stuffed for $7??? I pass by this place all the time and the parking lot is usually full. I came here today at 230 and I found parking. I am definitely glad I dropped in today.. I am going to be craving this place. thanks
Went to this restaurant because I trusted some of the positive reviews on this place. (No wonder I have trust issues!) We walked in and were the only ones in the entire restaurant. Not a good sign until I realized there were many delivery/pick up orders as the lady was busy on the phone. Seemed promising....Not so much! We were there for two hours waiting for parts of our meal to come out very slowly and luke warm. Others came, sat, ate and left while we were still waiting. NEVER coming back and highly recommend that if anybody wants good Chinese food- go to Burnaby Palace
This place is one of the best for Chinese. Almond chicken is awesome. Chow mein really good chop suey Chris. I really liked the tea. Service is friendly. The decor is simple but if you can get passed that. Highly recommend.
Friendly owners. Food good to slightly above average. Prices very reasonable.
Ordered food delivery for dinner. Freshly cooked. Spare ribs a tad salty but not a problem. Overall good.
Food was good. Service very bad. My food came 10 minutes before my elderly friends came. She was very upset
Lunch specials are great, quick service, and polite staff.
I took the bbq duck it was not fresh and not tasty
Best value of lunch
Great food and the host was very nice. Definitely will come back
Food was good. Little pricey for the quality (a bit bland)
Awful place.
Thought the food was ok. Ate at the restaurant. Had the sweet and sour chicken. Chicken was nice and crispy. Sauce was a little bland
Very rude. Hung up on me for no reason. No delivery before 4pm
The service was horrible!!!! Food came with less and was expensive. Also the place looked like it needed a renovation
Ordered food to be delivered last night. Was horrible. The egg rolls were under stuffed and literally dripping in oil. Had to throw out most of the fried rice, and the spicy ginger beef was overcooked and dry, not much taste. NEVER AGAIN!
Best hot and sour soup in town is included with most lunch specials. Some of the food is average, nothing is below average, and some dishes are very tasty indeed. The value cannot be beat.
Go for lunch you cant beat the value.
