Mr. Ho Wonton House in Burnaby

I had a terrible experience at this place. The cashier, an older lady, was extremely rude and didn t even smile at customers. She treated us with no respect and handed over our order as if she were feeding street dogs. Unfortunately, the other employees were no better they also lacked basic courtesy and didn t know how to talk to customers politely. Such poor service and disrespectful behavior are unacceptable. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Ordered skip tonight, the Hot and Sour soup used to be so much better. I think there was an ownership change the quality isn t there like the 10 previous years we have stood by this restaraunt.

we came in about an hour before closing and had a full meal, the food was delicious especially the wor wonton soup! the service was also amazing, our server jack was super welcoming and accommodating. we re definitely coming back! (there was also a lot of leftovers, the price versus how much food youre getting is a great deal!)

Mr. Ho s has gone severely downhill. I have been here twice recently and had bad experiences. Ginger beef & sweet and sour pork are very soggy, and the meat is poor quality (chewy, fatty, tough, etc). The spring rolls are incredibly oily. Don t waste your money here when there are way better options.

Weve been here before and had a good experience so it saves this from being a 1 star review but last night was ridiculous. The server literally shoved my stepsons plate away from him to set another plate down. The deep fried squid was so salty it wasnt edible. We made mention of this and were told sorry. 2 small pieces were eaten out of a huge plate.... when I paid I didnt leave a tip because of the rude service and inedible squid. The lady stopped me and literally told me I didnt leave a tip. I said I know and she berated me. Tips are earned not required. Treat your diners better and maybe youll get tips!

The food was cooked & fresh. That is the most positive thing I am able to say. The food flavoring is a gentle bland flavor. There is no burst of flavor in every bite type of thing. Their wonton noodle soup tastes like a watered down version of the real wonton noodle soup. I am a chef and I know when corners are cut or when improperly seasoned or purposefully seasoned less for whatever reason it may be. I would call it a gentle seasoned flavor but is very fresh. The salt and pepper prawns were overcooked, tough but still tasted fresh and were gently seasoned. I would recommend this restaurant to those that like a gentle flavor. If you are on a diet, I recommend this place. It is not oily at all. Kid-friendliness: Good for kids

I used to like this place...good food, reasonable prices, good service. After an experience with a rude waitress, I have never returned - there plenty of other options out there.

I just ate there Aug 5, 2024. Boy has the food gone downhill! I was really surprised how fast the food came out. Even McDonalds isnt that fast. Everything came to us lukewarm. Even the soup was lukewarm! Very unpalatable. The chef obviously didnt cook it. I was actually grossed out. Everything was cold in about 2 minutes because the food was never hot to begin with! Also, everthing had the hint of stale Ketchup flavor. Thats the only way I can describe the strange taste. The food was just plain bad. I will not be coming back here. Its a shame because the food used to be good at this place.

Mr. Ho Wonton House is the most delicious and welcoming restaurant I have ever been to all across the world. Food tasted authentic and very homey. I 100% recommend this restaurant and will be returning with many people! Wheelchair accessibility: As a disabled 45 year old women this restaurant was very inclusive and was not at all bothered when I came back with my wheelchair support group.

The staff here were extremely polite and very friendly and the service was great. Food came out very quickly and tasted amazing. This restaurant is wheelchair accessible. I am from out of town and I will for sure come back here without a doubt.

This place has been a staple place for dinner for me in Burnaby.. it s very good and surprisingly the stuff will make an effort to make you happy by giving you what you ask for.. they will change the menu to suit your needs..

I normally don t give 2 star reviews but ordered a few dishes and asked for 10 chopsticks on a delivery. Was surprised to see an adjustment on my receipt for extra $2?!!!! Chopsticks are free, according to their menu selections in the delivery app so I m very upset! Felt cheated as I don t care about the $2 but the principle that counts.

Salt and pepper pork so dry that the meat on the outside is dark and the inside is white and stringy. Its so hard you can barely even chew it. The meat scratches throat going down the esophagus. The quality of this item is 1. Once the pork cools down it will be like chewing on a brick if it isnt already a brick after posting this review. May 2024

Unfortunately the original ownership has since sold and moved on with their lives. The food and service is not up to par with was it used to be. Too bad, hope the new owners can turn it around however It would be an uphill battle with big shoes to fill. Mr, Ho was famous for their service and fresh ingredients used in their food. They kept the quality consistent for many years.

Been living in this area for close to 20 years and was always curious so a few weeks ago I ordered three dishes. I have to say this is the WORST Chinese food Ive ever had. The beef was stringy and had zero flavour. The chicken was pale and tasteless. The vegetables in the chicken dish were not cooked through, like the carrots were still slightly hard to bite. I ended up throwing away more than half of the food, such a waste and so disappointing. Also, its not cheap for the bad quality, if I had only read the reviews beforehand. Will NEVER order from here again. You are much better off trying the Wings place a few doors down, or some of the small shops two blocks down, like the Nao Sushi or Anatolias Gate.

Order via Door Dash, food is average, Deep fried wonton not really tasty at all. Beef Brisket and Wonton noodle soup also ok, brisket bit hard and dry, Wonton is okay, soup itself is tasty. price pretty cheap.

The server was very quick and rude to us. Our food came rather quick and looked to be either burnt or undercooked, when we asked questions about the food we got quick dismissive answers. It has potential but I think our server just ruined the experience for us.

Ive eaten here a few times before and they were fine but there was a big issue with mine today. As I dug through the food, I found foreign material that looked like paint chips. I assume these are coating chips from the pan or cooling tools. If there was one small piece, I would have ignored it but I found quite a few. Some were small and some were the size of a dime. Im not sure if I will order from here again...

before today i had an excellent review of mr. hos restaurant. unfortunately my food was not good at all. i am a regular customer at mr. hos. ive been coming to mr. hos wonton for over 20 years, to the north road & lougheed location before they moved to kingsway. i think ownership has changed a long time ago. the price has gone up over the years but the food quality and service remained very consistent, which is why i bring my whole family here for special occasions. today was completely different. i ordered a combo B as usual with extra wonton. my wonton soup was extremely salty! i ask the server to change this but they sent back the same bowl with very little change to how salty it was. the plate for the rest of my combo was not good either. instead of boneless pork i was served the pork used for honey garlic spare ribs. the vegetables were slimy. the fried rice seemed like a smaller portion than usual, which was actually fine because it seemed like theres usually too much fried rice. i didnt finish my plate. i wanted a good meal but i received something from the kitchen that told me they dont care about who was going to eat it. im not sure if it was a new cook or they are changing the food. maybe there is trouble between the servers and the kitchen. maybe because its not busy. maybe they dont want customers to come so close to closing (if you dont like serving late customers -close earlier- dont serve bad quality food). i dont feel comfortable coming back even with my family if this is the kind of food mr. hos is now serving. i dont plan to come back until the food i used to get from mr. hos comes back. i pay good money for good food. i dont want to pay for bad food. thank you for over 20 years of great food. its too bad this is how it is now.

Had a hankering on for Deep Fried Prawns with an order of Chicken Chow Mein. It was prepared within 10 minutes. Service was adequate but it was a bit Pricy. Got home and there was plenty of Nice Hot Crispy Deep Fried Prawns and the Chicken Chow Mein was adequate. Four Stars.

I have eaten here a few times, and I write this as I wait for my most recent order, DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY through their app, they are awful at telling you when you are getting your order, I am currently 50mins past my estimated delivery time and when I called they could not tell me when I was getting my order or even take my order number to check. I am not impressed

They tried to scam us and over charge us

Wonton noodle soup is OK but would be better with softer noodles, and it would be nice if it was put all together instead of the soup coming in a separate bowl. You also only get 2-3 wontons

We went for dinner after 8 pm on a Saturday. Place was not too crowded and we were seated immediately. We tried fried rice, spicy stir fried beans, eggplants, fried tofu, general Tsao s chicken and hot and sour soup. All items very tasty; not too oily. Tea and fortune cookies are free and has free refills. Last but not least, very personable service. Certainly recommend!

This is our go to place for Chinese food. Big portions and friendly staff. However the last few times I noticed that the quality was not the same and my egg/veggie fried rice had chicken bits in it twice. Vegetarian options: They have decent vegetarian choices. I am unsure if they have vegan for anyone that is vegan

Despite the absurd service of the waitress, Mr. HO restaurant owners should be well educated. 1) I ordered 4 foods, but only 2 were served, and the other 2 were served in 30 minutes after the guests next to me paid attention to the waitresses. 2) I ordered xo sauce fried rice, but they said it was no longer on sale, so I ordered another fried rice. Later, when I complained that the bill took up xo sauce fried rice, why did this happen? It was an absurd answer that it was the price of a Mr. HO restaurant computer. And the fried rice provided was undercooked rice that was not cooked well. 3) Did you do a good service to the employees today? is it not? When I asked, she confessed that she was also the wrong service. I would like The Mr. HO restaurant owner strongly suggests educating waitress.

I ordered 4 special fried rice and they send me noodles and I call them to change my order for the right one and they denied to change my order saying it s not our fault what a terrible service try other Chinese restaurant not this one you will thank me later

Staff was pretty nice and service was fast. Food was good, not great but wasnt bad either. I would have given 3 stars tbh for the food because it was pretty average, but Ive added one more star because of the service, which is a nice change because usually for us its always the other way around. Atmosphere was nice, very typical traditional Chinese restaurant type decor. I wouldnt visit here again anytime soon but I would definitely give them another chance.

Ive been going to this restaurant for years and the food has been pretty consistent in terms of flavour and quality. For the most part wait times arent so bad, however they do get relatively busy over the weekend, so do expect to wait for food a bit longer.

Absolutely disgusting!!!

Our family has supported Mr. Hos for 30 years, but we just cant justify the slide in food taste and quality at the much higher prices they now charge. We used to have lunch there weekly - now when we go in its very quiet. Something has happened at this establishment, and not sure what it is. There are better family food choices elsewhere. Perhaps its time to retire the business, unfortunately, as it may not stay a going concern, with loyal patrons giving up hope it will return to its former award winning glory.

Mr. Ho Wonton House is an excellent place for lunch and dinner. Friendly staff and great service. One of my favorite items is the work wonton soup. Today their POS was down, but they found a workaround, and we ate there.

I will never eat here just the fact there was a cockroach in the food.

The food here is great. Service is ok as well, perhaps a little more attention to customers if they are a large group. Customers with allergies could have an issue here as they try their best to accommodate those with allergies but do not guarantee that you will not get a reaction. Overall good experience.

Great place to get your Chinese food fix. They have everything. Great place to eat in or take out. The portions are great. The people are so nice. They have limited parking. Favorite would be the chow mein, black bean chicken and the fried rice. Any dish here is tasty.

I went to this restaurant by myself. I really enjoy the food. I often get it to go. In fact, this was the first time I stayed and eat there. The food is by far my favorite Chinese food, but the service was pleasant enough but there wasnt much of it. Once I was seated I had to wave over the waitress to take my order. At no point did she come and ask me how things were or if I needed anything. Again. I had to wave her over when I wanted container to take my food home. I did hear her go to other tables and chat with them and ask them how their food was. Im curious why that didnt happen with me, especially since I was by myself. The restaurant itself is kept clean and in good shape. I had the chicken and seasoned vegetable chop suey chow mein and a vegetarian spring roll. I do really enjoy their food.

We ordered individual plate C and D and a large Wor Wonton soup and had enough for 4 for with lots of left overs..all was delicious!

A gem hiding in plain sight. Generous portions of well made real Hong Kong style cuisine at reasonable prices. E.g. our deep fried squid/cuttlefish came in a light batter thats not too salty. The squid remained soft and tender. The sweet and sour pork came in a light sauce, not the usual sticky, thick, sugar and food colouring-Laden goop. It is a longer drive than we normally would do fior supper but we will make the trip again. Parking: Street parking is limited on Kingsway but there are more on inside streets. Kid-friendliness: Kids would like those dishes with sweet sauce such as sweet and sour pork, cod in cream corn sauce.

Great value!! Service & food were quick, the place is often packed so they get you in & out quickly - not a bad thing. Food was piping hot and has good wok hei. Not necessarily gourmet but tasty and dependable.

Went there the other night and there was hair in my food and only the wonton was good.

After a Mr.Ho break for over a year, gave it a go on a Tuesday night...quite impressed, veggies crisp, tasty, not clumped with corn starch or overly greasy - price and portions appropriate. Noodles just slightly overcooked but nothing to ruin a meal. Wor Wonton is so good now - broth used to be oddly fishy, now its a more standard broth - plenty of veggies, meat and perfectly cooked wontons. I look forward to our next meal.

Nice and clean restaurant. But more importantly, food is very good. Unlike so.many other similar restaurants, food here is not too salty and not too greasy, which means youre left with good flavors.

On our visits to BC from Toronto, this place has become a favourite when we are craving good Chinese food. They have an extensive menu that is sure to satisfy everyone s likes. Our favourites include salt and hot pepper boneless pork, sautéed prawn with salt and hot pepper, Sichuan style long green beans, Szechuan ginger beef, and salty fish and diced chicken fried rice.

I ordered take-out on the House Combo # 2 with BBQ pork fried rice for 2 people. The BBQ pork meat was very old and tasted runcit on the fried rice. The rest of the dishes were good.

we used to go there often, always gave them good tips in cash they told me that they prefer it that way. Once we got in misunderstanding because we have our favorite spot the woman told me we can go there, that is how I understood but she told us after that we cant go there. We left I told her I will seat where I want or go to another restaurant. That is my Principe if I go to a restaurant and it I dont like table I dont eat there I like nice table. Next time we were there the woman was looking at me so angry and I got diarrhea after, another person who was with me got diarrhea too too. Do I think that they put something in food? I dont think so otherwise I would bring inspection. But that bad feeling about an angry waitress diarrhea after hunt me down. I go to other restaurants and they tell me thank you after. So why going to Mr Ho? I will go back as soon as that waitress is out. Update from yesterday February 22 2022. I went there to pick up my order and guess who brought the order to me. The same waitress. She got a zero tips. The other lady who is manager ower there was arguing on the phone with someone. Unhappy customer? The manager was telling to person on the phone that someone is not there and to call again if want to speak the person. Im not going there as I said. They will miss my generous tips I used to give every time. June 5 2022 we came back, my wifes idea and customer service was better. The bad lady was there , lady who is a manager and a nice lady who noticed that our son grew up. The manager lady was nice too. I might give them another chance, Ill start with giving them two stars more. I still have to check how they are as a business.

Should have read the reviews before ordering. Ordered the wonton noodle soup and the wontons were raw and soup really salty. The fried squid and chicken wings were a total let down, soggy and such small portions despite the high price. Seriously there are so many other great Chinese restaurants compared to this one. Never again.

If you are traditional Chinese, it is just not the type of Chinese food you are looking for: fried rice was too dry, Special Wonton soup had way too few wonton but it tasted good tbh, beef tenderloin was overcooked and Chinese Kale was very old and not enough seasoning. I had hard time to chew these food. Highly not recommeded!

I am disappointed with the food from this restaurant. The portions are decent and the pork was fresh and didnt have any gamey aftertaste, but for an Asian restaurant, they serve really bland food. I mean we had to add extra garlic and honey to the honey garlic pork we ordered. The tofu with veggies needed extra seasoning as well. Their fried wontons barely had any filling. The filling was the size of a thumbnail. The Ginger Beef was bland too. I think the only dish we really enjoyed was the Brisket Chow Mein, though that could use maybe a bit more oyster sauce too. I dont recommend this place.

Ordered delivery tonight......it took the restaurant 1 hour and 30 minutes before they even contacted the driver. So order took in total 2 hours. When the order arrived it was missing the utensils that we requested. Poor, poor service...food was average

I have been ordering food from Mr. Hos for years, and am firmly of the opinion the quality continues to go down. My takeout order today Almond chicken and curies rice was tasteless. Sadly it required soya sauce to make it edible. i will never go to, or order food from this place again

Ordered via Uber eats. It was pretty quick despite the bad weather last night. Food came in hot and well-packed. Just a little disappointed with the tofu though. I was expecting lots of chili/pepper but I got lots of garlic. I hope they portioned it in equal parts. Overall, we liked it and will order next time.

Fresh, Delicious, Recommended!

Hands down the blandest Chinese food I have ever eaten. The vegetable chow mein was just boiled noodles with steamed vegetables dumped on top. The sweet and sour pork texture was fine but had zero taste of any kind. The beef and broccoli was alright I guess, but I expect it to be bland. We asked for utensils and were given 3 plastic forks and a plastic spoon (we didnt order soup)... we have forks at home, but chopsticks would have been nice. Do not recommend

Had the war wonton and spicy squid. Both excellent and the price!! Great value.

We used to frequent this restaurant years ago when we were in the neighbourhood as they served comfort Chinese food! It had been awhile since we d been back but it certainly changed since then. We found the food subpar and not as how we remembered it. Don t get me wrong - the staff were nice and had wore masks (always a plus for me) and they still had their regulars and were busy with take out but the food just didn t hit the mark. It s more western style, which is fine, but wasn t what we were in the mood for. The prices seemed a bit high for what it was but again I think we were too reminiscent of our last times we were there. The curry chicken had little curry sauce itself and they charge per bowl of rice instead of offering a bucket at the get go (even though they deliver it in a bucket anyways haha). The crispy noodles seemed a bit overdone and the food was a bit oily for our liking. Again this was just our one opinion and the packed group across from us enjoyed their meal and it s just an easy spot to wrangle a bunch of friends/family together so don t let me deter you from visiting if you re in the area as little businesses always need support!

Ordered from skip. Food came fast, but lacks in taste. Fried rice was literally fried - rice with some eggs on it. No seasonings. Ginger beef was okay.

Price has gone up over the years but food is consistent. Good Canadian Chinese food.
