Saw the reviews here and thought that it might be a good idea to order some food there. We ordered the House special chow mein and the wonton soup. The food was absolutely terrible cold and had no taste. The service was not very good. I would not recommend this at all
Our regular takeout spot! Hidden gem in N. Burnaby. Great food for value - around $15 per dish before tax. Free spring rolls w/ min $35 order. Michael Buble was even a customer back in the day and it was neat to see a framed photo on the wall of him and the owner. Like previous reviews have said, they get super busy on weekends and can take awhile to make your order so it's best to give them plenty of notice! There aren't too many old school Chinese restaurants like this anymore.
Ordered from here for Skip the Dishes delivery. They sent the wrong order, but offered it to us for free and had the right order back at our place within 20 minutes. Large portions, fresh, very good food, no complaints. Good neighbourhood Chinese for takeaway or delivery.
Service is horrible. Called in an order at 5:20 in the afternoon and was told it would be ready in 40 minutes. Show up at 6 and told it wasn't ready, this is normal for this place. Waited for 30 more minutes before the food was ready where 5 other customers had bee. Served in that time. When I brought this up with the owner they refused it was that long till I showed the phone record. Then they proceeded to laugh at the situation. Nothing was compted or apologized for. Food is mediocre and service was terrible.
The Boys and I had an Easter Monday evening dinner at the North Burnaby Wonton House. The restaurant was operated as family owned. The service was prompt and the food arrived relatively quickly with only one other patron eating. We found the chicken chow mein, beef rice noodle, and the sweet & sour pork dishes fairly decent. The beef brisket hot pot and the spicy pork chop were just okay. Prices were fair for the quality and quantity of food served.
Ordered chicken balls in S&S sauce. The chicken strips were heavy battered and very oily. The sweet and sour sauce was a soup.. very watery and with chopped onions in it (?). The crispy egg rolls were so greasy that the bag they came in were soaked in oil. Made my GF’s nieces physically sick and I had painful gut rot for hours. My girlfriend, who is from Hong Kong, said it was the nastiest “Chinese food” she has ever had in Canada. Food poisoning and quick to the trash. I see why it has a low rating here and on UberEats. 🤢🤮
Excellent food at great prices. Portion size was above what I expected for the price. Food is not overly salty and noodles have excellent wok hei. Congee tasted very homestyle and tasty. Friendly owner too! Would definitely come again.
Doesnt look like much on the outside or inside, but both the service and food are excellent! Wait time is around 15 minutes depending on the dish. Generous portions for the price during lunch hours. Highly recommend!
Great food, tasted delicious, great portion sizes! Highly recommended!
we like the foods
A great experience, with great food and service.
I cant find another store like this in the entire Greater Vancouver area. $18.75 for a portion of fried chicken. Only half a chicken. The wings and legs are no bigger than a finger. The decoration style of the store is like the decoration style of China 20 years ago. Wont go again
Wonderful service and home style cooking
Great food , Hot and fresh service is awesome love the old couple working slow service but worth the price
Came here 2 nights ago with the girlfriend. We werent even sure if the place was open or not. Definitely not the most esthetically pleasing to the eye. But the food and service was fantastic. And pretty cheap pricing as well. Not huge portions, but definitely a decent amount. We ordered the wonton noodle soup, beef shank soup, as well as the ho fun noodles with gravy, beef, and bok choy. They were all fantastic, especially the ho fun noodles (ORDER THEM). Will definitely go again!
What a wonderful, classic little cafe! My sister and I have been here twice now and both times we were so happy about the warm & attentive service, the delicious food, and the homey atmosphere. We will be back!!
Ordered combo B and it literally only came with 6 pieces of sweet and sour pork and a tiny pile of chop suey. What a scam
The Wonton Soup was bomb! Hidden Treasure, Diamond in the Rough.
I dont rate places often, but this place deserves it. Tonight, I ordered a generic chicken stir-fry with a little confusion in communication due to my poor cell signal... They waited til I got there to make it fresh for me. And it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
Great deal, friendly service
Ordered on Uber last night. Had stomachache plus vomit in this morning and afternoon. Now my stomach is still aching. Don t know what was wrong with the food.
Literally ruined Christmas. Gave me food poisoning. Meat was stringy and tough.. I surmise it was under a warmer for way too long. Other dishes were too salty. Will never be back. Avoid if you dont enjoy puking. Im making this review for my sick friend who is still too ill to get out of bed.
Tried 3 of their pork dishes and a chow mein. Delicious! Not too oily like t&t stuff. So glad I found this place!
The dishes didnt have flavours . The service is really terrible, the waiter doesnt care about you, the female owner tried to HUMILIATE ME BY FREE FOOD , I said to her No any CUTLERY for ENVIRONMENT , she replied NO FREE FOOD TOO? Ill take three spring rolls away if you dont want them either . And she acted to take away food like treating an animal and smirked at me I dont understand how two related and why she did this, that is so RUDE AND WEIRD, I regretted I didn t fight back at that time. BUT I Will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! After reading other customer s experiences, just feel scary and horrible, it s unsafe to eat their food
Good price for the amount you get, but found there wasn t much flavour and my beef was black/burnt
Very delicious and offordable prices
Great local family-owned restaurant with good food. I always love coming here when Im in town. **Update Feb 2023** Still amazing this restaurant!!
Sweet n sour pork was cold Everything else was ok
Delicious food and great staff!
Pretty rough inside and the outside but my wonton with noodle was excellent.
I love this place. It s hole in the wall but the food is good and the prices are super reasonable. The owner is so nice and they ve been here forever. Micheal Buble even went here in his youth. They are a small family owned business (that s why their prices are so good) but they can get overwhelmed and their delivery can be slow. Be kind or pick up :). It s worth it.
We order delivery directly from this restaurant so that more money goes to them than to food delivery apps. We usually buy the Dinner for 4. Substitutions are never a problem. We love all of the dishes. Their spring rolls are nice, fresh tasting and hot on arrival! I havent figured out why previous reviews state lack of taste or only of salt because every dish we have ordered has been flavorful. Also, delivery always arrives hot! I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food and only order from two places in Burnaby.
This used to be my first choice to oder chinese food through Uber eats, not anymore, last 2 orders didnt go so well; first they sent me thick noodles, which was part my mistake, I guess i didnt know the dish i ordered came with thick noodles, yet they did mention they were thick noodles, also they were all stuck together, and really sloppy looking. I didnt eat them. So I thought Id give them another chance; I ordered chicken and ginger hotpot. They sent me beef and ginger hotpot. All of what the quality of food has dropped down hill. You its not cheap getting food through Uber eats, so they should have good quality food.
I always enjoy with the diced pork fried rice and the sweet & sour pork. I love the combination of both. P.O. dont forget to ask for your fortune cookie. Food
Kind, patient service and delicious food! Wonton soup and beef and broccoli 10/10
Bland and tasteless food no matter it s fried noodles or noodle soups. The fried noodles is as oily as you can guess like the bad names people jokes about their biased Chinese food . On par of the same taste of the end product of over cooked white pasta from the boiling water with half bottle of peanut oil dumped but without adding salt. Save your trip for somewhere else.
Good portion size but the sweet and sour chicken lacked flavour
I LOVE their wonton soup!!!!!!!
Gross
Such delicious food every time, and the owners are so lovely. One of my favourite local restaurants
The lady is very friendly. Food was good.
Ordered food late for dinner and it was by far the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. Food had no taste, and it was most definitely so old and doesnt have the slightest freshness. So bad that I had to throw it away. Spent a lot of money and definitely not going back. Save your money and go to any other restaurant.
So, we got dinner as very hungry people last night. We walked home ( no car right now bc it died ) try the food and its gross ( I ve been coming here for years and its never gross ) We tried to eat it bc it was late and had no car to drive and also didn t want to spend more after the $58 for the meal. It was the worst Chinese food I ve eaten, something must have been wrong with it in some way but every dish we got was gross, something to do with the oil or something. Anyway, we try to eat it cNt even finish it but we were extremely hungry so we tried. I paid almost 60 bucks for the dinner so i thought that was a bit much to just toss in the garbage. I showed up with the food the next day and she wouldn t help me out till I got a little upset then compt me one dinner for one. This would be 1 star if she didn t do that. Not really happy to spend 60 bucks and get dinner that gave me a slight gag reflex I couldn t eat and then get one meal for the three of us the one time i ate out in soo long gerrr
The dry-fried beef river is good. But don t order other Sichuan dishes.
Tasty food, good value
Mongolian beef is fantastic. Everything was very good. Prices are fair. And service was excellent. Definitely ordering again from them.
One of the best places to eat Chinese food in North Burnaby. Affordable prices, large portions, and always delicious.
We have been coming here for 20 years. Family owned and operated and great Chinese food at very reasonable prices. It is very busy for takeout so order ahead and pack patience. Well worth the wait
Ordered sweet and sour chicken with pineapple yesterday. Bland, favour less and rubbery chicken. Chicken was swimming in the sauce and wasn t cut to be bite size for me it was pretty bad. I don t usually rate restaurants but I honestly think people should know. Not sure about other dishes. Also I think the owner gives out a very strong unfriendly vibe. Not going back for so many reasons. (sweet and sour chicken is literally one of the easiest dishes)
The lady at the counter acts as if she is doing us a favor when we order food here. She is extremely rude, has not idea how to talk to customers. Customers are paying you, the least you can do is show some respect especially at a time when people are supporting small businesses. Only thing good here is the soup.
Some dishes taste good. Some are just okay. My favourite is beef with fried rice noodles(DRY).
Food is good but no dine in. June 2022.
Great Chinese delivery at great prices. It seems standard but when your food arrives and you realize youve ordered three days worth of meal prep its a welcome surprise. I didnt even ask for the extra promo items and they included them! Really tasty and satisfying dishes that straddle the line between Canadian-Chinese takeout and authentic soul food. Quick delivery and was willing to make dietary accomodations (and/or give honest feedback on what wont taste good with substitutions). Service is great, food is great!
My husband and I decided to try a new Chinese Food restaurant, and boy were we ever happy with the food. Their chicken Chow Mein is absolutely the best. Cant wait to eat there again
Good quality food. It may seem old inside but the food and the service makes up for it all. We need to support local small businesses to boost our own city and its residents.
I used to go to this place a lot, and the owner knows me. There are many time that I gave them a call to order my food before picking up. but 100% of the time, they will not prepare my food until I show up in front of their reception desk. The wait wasnt too long, but on average, they wastes me for 10-15 mins. After tying this game couple time, I finally found some alternatives and never come back again. In general: avoid this place if you have any other options.
Not fresh. Place was dead at 1pm. Not a very good sign
I guess I didn t get sick but as far as taste goes I have tasted more flavourful air. Zero seasoning just salt, order showed up late, cold & stale never ordering from here again
it was amazing! the service was incredible and everyone was very sweet. i definitely recommend.
Food was really Delish! Arrived hot !! Very satisfied !
If it s good for Sam Chen, it s good for my family.
Ordered chicken chow main sweat and sour chicken bowls with beef chop suey and it was the best Chinese food Ive had in a very long time. I never write reviews for no one but I am this time wow was good.
I really like this place. You get a free item after a certain amount. Since I ordered the free item they offered something else. Szechuan green beans. Fantastic. Never tried them before now a family favorite. 4 stars only on account every time I order for pick up I end up waiting 10 more minutes then told when it would be ready. Nevertheless worth the wait.
DO NOT ORDER FOOD FOR DELIVERY FROM HERE IF YOU WANT YOUR FOOD TO GET DELIVERED TO THE CORRECT ADDRESS. This evening we placed an order for delivery totalling around $100. We were told that it would be about 45 minutes to an hour until our order was delivered. After waiting over an hour, we called the restaurant to see where our order was, as it had not been delivered yet. To our surprise, we were told that our order had in fact been delivered and paid for. We told them that we had not received any food so the food must have been delivered to the wrong house. When we asked how long it would take for our order to be prepared and delivered again, the lady on the phone would not even give us a rough time estimate. She kept saying we dont know how long this new order will take. Additionally, when discussing placing a new order, they offered us nothing to compensate for their mistake. Due to their incompetence and lack of clarity regarding our new estimated delivery time, we decided not to place a new order with this restaurant tonight and will NEVER be ordering from this place again.
I dont ever write reviews but this place was absolutely horrible. The hot and sour soup was pink had nothing in it and the wonton soup had 0 flavour. Usually order from another place but this was on my way and well regret it. Definitely would not recommend. Maybe due to covid but nasty.
You Like Won ?... How bout Ton ? Absolute Gem in North Burnaby , been there a long time . Classic North American Chinese . Good quality . Good times.
Jenny is always a star! Little hole in the wall, but definitely worth a try
Love love love the won ton soup from this place!
Tried the deep fried prawns in sweet and sour sauce and although it was expensive at almost $18 I ordered it anyway and it was awful. It was a tiny little shrimp in the thickest batter you can imagine and really bad
Best wonton soup in the lower mainland! We discovered this hidden gem on a fluke several years ago when we lived in Burnaby, and we have moved twice since then, (we are now in Aldergrove) and we will always travel the distance just to get me my favourite soup. Its worth the try!
We are using their services for many, many years and they have never ever disappointed! I don t think that any other business has been so perfect for my family! The owner is always positive and smiling. She tries to u her clients always. When a delivery driver stood het up, she drove herself to our house and delivered the yummy food. The quality and deliciousness of each item from the menu that we have ordered are always perfect. Don t be fulled by the outside of the restaurant; the inside matters!:)
Our go to for Chinese Take Out. Spicy Squid, Singapore Fried Noodles and beef brisket are our favourites.
I come here often to get takeout, yeah the service might be slow but Its worth the wait. My familys been eating / ordering take out at this place for almost 10 years & havent had any issues with the food at all
Good food
Food was alright, the restaurant smelled like some kind of cleaner and the service was so so.
Very friendly and delicious restaurant
Great food nice lady. They did mess up.on my sister order for delivery tho and did nothing. But still good food.
Great Chinese
I really am not sure if this is a 2-star or 3-star. So, you decide: 1. Ordered via Door Dash and Ive paid the bill via DoorDash ($100+) With orders over $55 (before taxes), you get a free order of Sweet and Sour Pork - nice deal (see attached menu advertisement from the North Burnaby Wonton House website) 2. Door Dash driver shows up 30 minutes later; they apparently are squabbling over the bill for 10 minutes. My food sits. 3. DoorDash calls me about the bill, amount paid, etc. Finally, after the DoorDash driver being there for nearly 20 minutes, they settle and the driver is allowed to leave with the food.My food continues to sit. 4. Driver delivers the food (after a 9 minute drive to our home). 5. Our food is cool/cold (as best, a couple dishes were lukewarm). That said, nothing a microwave cant fix, but not how I want my food delivered. So, I tick the ordered food against my ordered list...all is there (the beef with green peppers and black bean sauce has 0 green peppers, very little black sauce, and minimal beef)...with the exception of the Sweet and Sour Pork (I wasnt surprised). I call and they had little interest in hearing my request, simply stating, Nothing is free anymore. After asking about 6 times for clarification, I get this explanation: If you order through the delivery companies, DoorDash, Skip the Dishes, UberEats, etc., you dont get the free bonus offer. I said, Understood, but nowhere does it say that on the menu, so how am I supposed to know that and why would I not expect the free food? She replied with, They charge too much, too expensive, so we cant give you free food. Again, I explained, I understand, but nothing anywhere says that on their site, on their menu, etc. Nothing. So, going forward, Ill know to order directly from them in order to get my free bonus food, but technically, since the menu and site dont say that, I want my free food. She got very rude, very short, and just repeated, Nothing free anymore. Obviously, I wasnt going to get my free food (nor would I trust them to not spit in the meal or something if they did make it). I just said thanks, but Ill take my business elsewhere going forward. Food Quality: 7 out of 10 Food Quantity: 5 out of 10 Customer Server: 2 out of 10 Overall: 14 out of 30 (which is 2.3 out of 5) I rounded up as you may have a different experience with the staff, which means, 12/20 for food only = 3 out of 5. Unfortunately, as a HUGE proponent of Customer Service (its not hard), I will never be a return customer, nor will I recommend it.
We order here all the time and the food is delicious. We always have leftovers so the quantity is good. Ordered here about 6 times now and once they forgot to hand us the almond chicken so I had to go back so just 4 stars. I recommend highly, best is the area.
Great food, really nice people there.
Ordered deep fried pork wontons which had no pork in them. Beef broccoli Ok, chicken fried rice ok. Best part of the order was the sweet and sour sauce that came with the wontons. Would not order again
Would give a -5 if possible. I purchashed a wonton soup to go while working. Asked for doy sauce, was given one package and when i asked for more the owner REFUSED! F*$K this place.
taste is incredibly super bland for the basic fried rices and noodle. the attitude from the owner is even worse during the pandemic.
Brutal showed up when told meal would be ready (45 min wait ) then waited another 30 min at door finally saying screw it and left no one talks to you tells you how long or no organization what so ever .
Food was terrible quality. Beef had an expired smell and the noodles tasted like they had been lying around for days. BBQ pork was also very dry. Would not recommend, need better quality meats and preparation so food doesn t go bad.
Good food with large portions!
Delicious Chinese food nice mom and pop shop one of my favorite places to go for Chinese
Very good food at a reasonable price
They weren t accommodating to dietary needs.
Dont judge it from the outside. Take out is best because its a mom and pop operation with few employees. To go orders although slow are the better choice. The food is great. Everything is done well with generous portions. Not the best food in the area but not a bad spot to try
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Burnaby, food is always tasty and a lovely lady running it. Highly recommend the szechuan chicken.
Great food and reasonably price.
Good fresh Chinese food. Reasonably priced. We do take out all the time. Family owned.
Sure, customer service is lacking, but if you look past that, you will find that the food is tasty, no msg, and really great $value for money spent. The dishes I like there include the beef brisket in hot pot, and squid with Gai LAN. But all the dishes there are good, just try it out for yourself.
Too slow 1hour >>))
Chinese food.... mmmm MSG
horrible chinese food, the chow mien noodles are all stuck together and has no taste. The almond chicken barely had any chicken in it. Would not return there again.
It is fine, a bit greasy. Ok for lunch. Service is a little slow.
Hands the best Chinese I ever had so far since moving here! Totally recommend it, place is a bit run down but hey dont judge the book by its cover
Fast friendly service, very reasonable prices
After waiting for 20 minutes, the dishes haven t started yet. I m speechless.
Ordered takeout and the satay beef chow mein were 99% noodles with 4 (I counted!) slices of beef. Disappointing.
Overall it was pretty disappointing. The restaurant owner was disrespectful and try to humiliate us for asking the price. Moreover, there is only 4 piece of beef in the whole dishes and I end up having diarrhea after that. The worse thing is the owner try s to listen to me and my partner s conversation on sensitive topic. I really felt that I am being offended. Would not ever recommend anyone to go to the rude, disrespectful restaurant
Ordered lots of Chinese Food for an Office lunch and everything was hot and tasty and ready when requested. Will go back again for sure! Great customer service as well.
Will never go back. We went for the first time last night for dinner. No one was in the restaurant, but tables were messy and not bussed. Took about a minute for someone to come out from the back and seat us. Service was friendly enough and quick, but the food was luke warm. Definitely could tell itd been sitting for a while and barely re-heated for us. Tasted like bad food court food. Then, in the middle of us eating, the waitress started CLIPPING HER NAILS behind the till/counter, which was about 20 feet from our table. We were shocked. The clipping persisted so we immediately got it packed up to go but both had stomach aches by the time we got home so just threw it all out. We will not return.
Food was ok. Its Chinese cuisine, so there is always a language barrier. Overall it was ok. If you are tired of having subways and want some variation go there.
We love coming here for lunch. Very close to SFU. The owner is very friendly. This is a family run restaurant that has been here for decades. Lunch specials are super cheap. $6.95 menu items or $7.95 menu items. Comes with home made soup. Decor is very very old, but if you can look past it, this place is great. Food quality is excellent and portion sizes large for what you pay. One of our faves in the area!
Enjoyed the food eaten there a dozen times and always enjoy
Great food! Super friendly staff and clean. Only downside is lack of parking
My co-worker and I had a quick lunch at North Burnaby Wonton House. It was my first time having food at this place. We had a great time there. We arrived at the restaurant around 11:45 am. The restaurant was just open. It was not busy. We found a table and set down to order the food. North Burnaby Wonton House is a small family based Chinese restaurant. Inside the restaurant, it s a traditional Chinese style setting and decoration. There are three different kinds of the menu for this place, Lunch Special, Dinner menu, and take out the menu. We ordered food from its Lunch Special Menu since it s very cheap: All the food on the menu are $6.95 OR $7.95 with soup, which is such a great deal. My co-worker had Chicken with Black Bean Sauce on Crisp Chow Mein and I ordered Beef and Tomato on Rice. Our food came out of the kitchen fast. The Beef and Tomato on Rice was very tasty, but there were no many slices of beef. I wish they could put more beef in this dish. The Chicken with Black Bean Sauce on Crisp Chow Mein was very very dry. I couldn t see chicken meat. I could only see it s lots of noodles. In total, both two dishes were decent taste family style cooking. But, it s nothing exciting about them. The price of the food was super cheap. Both of us believe it worths the prices to eat at North Burnaby Wonton House.
Pretty solid take out joint for Chinese, nice owners and servers. We order from this place regularly, we keep coming back for the war won ton soup. My main complaint is that most of the items marked as spicy are pretty mild.
This is a new favourite of my familys. The food quality is beyond excellent, at all times, no matter what we order and what time we order it. Better bathrooms would help bump my rating to 5 however
Good food, great portions ,average customer service
The service is always wonderful and the food is delicious! Every time were travelling through North Burnaby we make a pitstop here and are never dissapointed.
Try the almond chicken..its all batter
Ordered food was excellent arrived hot and fresh. Plan to always order from here.
Delicious dishes with moderate price. The stuff was really friendly too.
Amazing food which is accompanied by the amazing service and hospitality provided by the manager, delivery man and the chef. Quite possibly the best Chinese restaurant in north burnaby without a doubt. recommended dishes would be the chicken sezchuan and the chicken fried rice.
Been ordering from here for 15yrs. Still the best tasting, especially for the price! One of the ladies I always see when I go in is always super friendly, nice and engaging with customers.
We had take out. Picked some dishes to guage how they would fare compared to other places. The Good: Friendly staff, good size portions. What can be improved: - The recipes. Every dish we ordered we felt a bit let down as weve had better tasting elsewhere. I am not saying they were aweful tasting, just falling a little short of expectation. - Wontons are all pork. No prawn inside. Different texture and taste. Maybe thats deliberate but wasnt what we were expecting. - Spring rolls seemed overly oily.
Good food at very reasonable prices. Lunch only $6.50 (US $4.50)
Great wonton soup
Wonton was decent. Dinner combos with huge portion. Environment a bit shabby but price was fairly cheap!
Love the food
Good food and for cheap prices
Love this place. The lunch special is great if youre ok with eating it there. Otherwise, call ahead and pickup your order, always works well for me. Also, I love the food, but stay away from the combos.
Food is great but the service is pretty God awful
I love their tofu but its differently made all the time, lol perhaps because they modify it for me as am vegetarian and I love the mo poh tofu. Good portion size, nice big place to have family get together. Glad they open till late and if you call in and say youll be coming they will even hold the restaurant open a little longer then 11! very accommodating.
Good food, average price and portions, slow but friendly service. Surprisingly big inside and can accommodate large groups.
First time there , though lived in arran for a long time now . Had a wonderful experience! We went a bit later in the evening and it wasnt busy. Service was very good and the food came quick ! We found the food pretty good too . I would go back for sure to get my Asian food fix .
Piss poor customer service. Just straight up rude if you ask them any questions about the order. Food is average and prices are okay.
Very accommodating to special requests.
Food is great, but they all taste kinda same
The food itself is more than worth the price, but what you must sacrifice for this is customer service. We have been ordering from them for three years, and have noticed that they have always have had issues with phone service - more than once, we ordered combo C and showed up to find two combo Bs waiting. Despite having read bad reviews about their delivery service, we finally decided to give it a try - unfortunately, it took more than an hour to get here (we live a 2-minute drive away) and they hadnt quoted the price to us so we were surprised when it came to the door (one of their random price changes had occurred). So all in all, we definitely recommend the food, but be prepared for anything when it comes to customer service.
Been going here for over 5 years. Consistently good food and reasonable prices. Best if you order and pickup.
