I ordered veal cordon bleu. The food is dry. My order was served without the salad. Service needs improvement. Not happy on my first visit.

Went for dinner, Food was great and comes in decent portion. Ordered chicken Caesar salad and enjoyed it. After paying the bill noticed the bill was much higher than expected. It was notified by the waitress that the price that we saw was for lunch, and dinner was priced higher. However, we were never notified about the price difference, even though we were pointing straight at the item when ordering. Quite disappointed with the non-transparency. Reviewing here just as a heads up for future customers.

Recently something changed. I usually have take out dishes. Lately, price has gone up (which was expected), but I noticed meat not properly cooked, less portions, small salad, old pita bread, chicken skewer as thin as a skewer itself. Quality was number one for me why I ve been going there but now I m looking to change the place. Maybe I ll give it a one more chance. We ll see

This is comfort food at its finest. The portions are huge! You have enough for a second meal at home. Our waitress was very friendly. The decor is dated by todays standard, but I loved it. Its a very homey atmosphere, like being at your grandparents home for a Sunday dinner.

The dark atmosphere doesnt look Eurobalkan; it just looks depressing and not cared for. The customer service is stunningly POOR. We have waited for 10 minutes to get someones attention in our booth. In the end, we got up and went to the bar for help. There were two waiters and they were sulking all the time. They were very good at sulking. We asked what was inside of one item, if theres any meat inside, we kept getting the answer just cheese. It was also pork. Okay, no big deal. When we asked for extra bread, the waiter went to the other side and started playing on his phone - never to be returned. When the waitress spilled some salad water to the other table, the customer warned her, and she lightly brushed the table with her finger. Her carefree attitude warmed my heart. Overall, the service was bad. What we ate was okay at best. All food items smelled the same grease, even the ones that shouldnt. If you terribly miss the food at home and long for a community, maybe I can understand why people eat out here.

Scott helped us he was great! For food I got lamb soulvaki which was good and for the drink I got white Sangria I definitely don t recommend! Overall nice restaurant!

Decor is of the older euro style so if you like that, you would enjoy the decor. Lots of old timers frequenting this place. Balkan platter was delicious although slightly on the pricier side with the price increase even with the current inflation. Schnitzel portion was good as well but the fry is a little bit crisper than I would have liked. Decent service and not hovering which is always much appreciated. Parking: Back of the restaurant

Going to Balkan almost always guarantees a good experience. The food and service are some of the best Ive had since moving to Canada. It feels like an establishment and not just another restaurant.

Food is good, fresh, good portions. I wish was more light and a bit more renovated, some flowers, some balkanic decorations better design since the food is good a nice style would probably attract even more customers.

Went there on Sunday for the brunch, but it turns out they do it on Tuesdays and Fridays instead. Chicken schnitzel was wonderful.

Food is always delicious 10 stars at least.You have to try it and experience that kind of preparing food.

Poor customer service. Servers didnt make me feel like they cared if I was satisfied with the service or not. I bought 4 cakes for take-out. Didnt realized how small and expensive they were till I left. Also they were just thrown in the box. Went back and asked if there was a mistake. I was just told - thats the take-out price and thats what I get. Was told that by both servers present when I asked. I was in shock and left.

The portion sizes are very large you get good value for the money. The Taste is okay nothing special. It was strange they said we only had an hour. They kept rushing us near the end of that hour and over 50% of the seats in the restaurant were still empty. The live music was okay. But it was so loud you almost had to shout at your dinner companion to hear each other.

We love this place, as do our Canadian and Balkan friends. Home-cooked food, lively atmosphere.

The service and the Mediterranean food were great

Looking for a Balkan spot in Metro Vancouver and found it! Order the cevapi. I would say they are comparable to the ones in Bosnia and Serbia. Great service and friendly welcoming atmosphere. We had the blueberry cheesecake and krem pita (puff custard cream pastry) for dessert. So yum! Will definitely be back!

The best tripe soup Ive had in years. I can taste that its a slow cook, taking hours to break down the beef tripe and making a silky and rich broth (tons of collagen!) YOU GOT TO TRY IT! (Dont be afraid of offal-- thisll change your mind!) The rolled schnitzel looks dark on the outside when it arrived at the table but cutting into it, it was cooked nicely. Tons of flavour, loads of creamy sauce / mayo on top. Nice amount of melted cheese in the middle Also had the cevapi with bread (served with dice onion and avjar) Let me tell you --- those little sausage are absolute perfection. A little fatty, tons of spice and flavour, and just a little char from grilling on the stove.

Food is pretty good, but the service was quite bad. They only had one server so Im cutting him some slack. But man oh man was he bad. Its actually funny how bad of a server he was. Its worth giving a try but dont expect much. Its sad because this is one of those places that could be awesome because of the food but its mediocre because of management.

The food was completely bland. There was only one vegetarian option on the menu. The food wasnt hot when it got to our table nor were the salads fresh. One thing that was really yummy was the pita they brought out with the supper. Hard to go wrong with a hot pita served with cold butter. Vegetarian options: Only one vegetarian main dish. Wheelchair accessibility: Not very accessible--especially the washrooms

Authentic Balkan food, okay quality and portion size, good service, a bit run down and in need of renovation. You may have challenge finding a parking spot at times.

Brutal service, server is more interested in the tv than the customers. Dont order the lamp chops ( hockey pucks) whatever you do. We made a complaint that the lamb was inedible and he still charged us for it. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place.

On vacation in Vancouver my misses and I stopped by the Balkan House restaurant for some authentic Balkan food and I felt like I was at my baba and dedas. The server was such a pleasant woman, food was delicious and the portion was big! Hope to find myself there again one day.

The quality of food was terrible. The problem is not just the chef, but also the fact that all the ingredients are old.

This place is pretty solid. Used to come here all the time. Good portions, tasty food. Atmosphere is a bit dated but it kinda adds to the appeal. Wish they still did the buffet on Sundays but i guess covid ended that. Overall i would recommend

We had their Veal Schnitzel and Chicken Shish Kebab and both were absolutely delicious! The mushroom sauce on top of the schnitzel made it a great combination. Also, I personally liked the atmosphere very much.

This has been on my to go list for so long I worried it wasnt open anymore. My only regret is taking so long to get to it. Absolutely delicious, great value. We had the platter for 2, and even the Greek salad impressed. I do recommend and will be back.

After the death of the previous owner, this restaurant fell into disrepair. You are greeted by the musty smell of old age and a feeling of depression. There is a smell of urine in the toilet. The meat dishes were ok, but the dessert was clearly spoiled. The waiter is like a sleepy fly. The restaurant needs renovation and good management. Big disappointment.

Food was good! Had chicken skewer, greek salad, roasted red pepper. When the server served us, she told us she was so busy, we felt almost as though we were an inconvenience. She was by herself however and she did have a large table. Would be interested in coming back for buffet.

We recently celebrated our daughters 18th birthday and were extremely happy how it turned out!The restaurant that day was packed! Nemanja and his staff were accommodating and exceeded our expectations. Thank you! Just over 40 people including kids were seated in upper section! love this place. I have been going here for years with my family and the food is always top tier. it s quite a distance from the house but we don t mind as the experience of going to Balkan House is worth the drive (even with these crazy high gas prices!)

Balkan House serves up pretty much any Balkan/Yugoslav staple. The food is generally high quality with solid portions and pricing, and the service is good. If you want to try some Balkan food or just crave it in general, you wont go wrong by checking this place out.

Been going for over 20yrs and always delicious food every time.

After years driving past the place, tonight I decided to get some dinner at the Balkan House in Burnaby. It s getting harder and harder to find decent, traditional European food in Vancouver and never having tried Serbian cuisine, this was a complete stab in the dark for me. Typically, I do not eat much pork, mostly because I find it ends up being overdone, or dry, or tough, or fatty, or flavourless. But I had never seen nor ever heard of pork shish kabob, so gave that a try along with five homemade meat-patty homemade sausages. Oh man was I ever impressed and glad I gave this place a chance. Even the sides, such as cabbage salad and mashed potatoes, are great. Down to earth meat and potatoes old-country cooking. Go here if you are hungry because this type of food will fill you up suddenly. Will definitely return!

Best East European food source

Unassuming place on the outside but has a nice interior. Parking was sparse but it was not hard to find a spot nearby. Servers were friendly and attended to everyones needs. Servings were large and food, while not on par with fine dining, were tasty. Price was reasonable for the portions. We were a large group (30) and seated in a separate seating area with amble space. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Family-style restaurant with booth and movable table type seating. Cosy vintage-looking interior while clean and smelling fresh. Clean table cloths as well as cutlery. Unobtrusive retro Balkan music in the background. Our attentive server memorized our order and demonstrated skills of carrying up to 6 plates at once without a tray. The portions are generous, tasty and homemade-style. The only tasteless thing was the water, which is perfect. Parking is sparse but can be found in the vicinity.

Food was good as any other restaurants out there...but I would prefer Tenen.

The food? Amazing. The one waitress that forgot we existed? Terrible. Had to get up to ask for drinks. Had to come back because she forgot, screwed up my sons order, had to go and find her. The kitchen to pay my bill. Again, food, amazing. Service, meh!

The best of the best - very reasonably priced not only because the food you get is bursting with flavour and homemade goodness, but also because your order includes a very generous portion of the main course + a side dish of your choice + a salad of your choice in a separate plate. Service is efficient; staff are accommodating. Since I discovered this restaurant over 10 yrs. ago to this day, I remain convinced that it has the best food, prices and portions in Greater Vancouver. I never leave this place feeling hungry or ripped off in any way.

The food was very tasty and generous portions for a lunch menu. For $16 I got schnitzel, a heaping portion of mashed potatoes, side Greek salad, a cup of broccoli soup and two dinner rolls. Parking is limited.

The best Serbian restaurant in the lower mainland. The evap i i are absolutely amazing and the bread is always fresh. opska salata is also highly recommended. Its also noticeably spacious inside the restaurant with comfortable seating.

My recommendation if you are looking for a place to try eastern European food and hospitality. We have been in this restaurant a couple times and we had a great time and food here.
