Friendly women ☑️ however, I had a bad experience with their food. We given a menu but only after placing an order that most of what is on the menu is unavailable…when we finally ordered what was available it was pure disappointment. This was my first experience eating Ethiopian food. For my own experience this is a ZERO rating ❌ never coming back.
I honestly did not expect it to be that great. The anjera was finger licking good. The food was fresh and well presented. The server was polite and helped me out with selecting what to get.
When we asked to eat in, the server was surprised. We had the Doro Tibs and meat/ veg combo. The food was quite good, but the service was iffy; we had to repeatedly ask for our bill. I think that took as long as preparing our meal.
The worst is inconsistency. Especially when it comes to serving size. The flavors are great that is at least consistent. That's why I had the vegetarian platter and it was so good that I had it again 6 days later. The second time around there was a noticeable weight difference in my takeout. The first time I had it the takeout box was abundant and full. So much so that I had enough for leftovers the next day. I was disappointed when I opened it when I had it the second time. It was placed very nicely I'll give them that, but there won't be any leftovers for another day. Will give it one more try and see how they do.
Delicious veggie platter! I ordered delivery so I can't review the restaurant itself but the food is wonderful! Flavourful, tender, gently spiced vegetable dishes and tangy, soft injera. My delivery order came with a mountain of injera, so good value as well. This is a great option for Ethiopian food in Burnaby and is just as good as some of the places I've tried in Vancouver. Thank you!
The chicken vegetable platter was really good Especially the chicken sauce taste like Indian red curry not oily,it’s more spices ,sour and a little bit hot. Also, the side of dish of veggies have different flavors from each! Try to mixed them as well!!!!! Otherwise, the bred one I really like it! Sour, tender and light 👍👍
I am sad to share my experience with this restaurant. I called ahead before placing my order with skip the dishes to confirm that they can make the vegetarian platter vegan, the woman who answered the phone assured me it was no problem. I ordered the veggie platter and when I started eating it I seen there was a bit of meat in the platter. It was attached to a piece of cartilage and bone. As a person who doesn’t eat meat this made me sick. I called the restaurant immediately to let them know the situation and the person I was speaking with told me that it was IMPOSSIBLE for what I was saying to be true… my partner and I who have been meat eaters in the past know what meat looks like and am absolutely certain that this was a chunk of meat with bone + cartilage still attached. They offered to make me more food free of cost but I don’t have an appetite for businesses with poor customer service and mystery meats in clearly labelled vegetarian food. There are so many better ways to address a customer with feedback, a customer who wants small businesses to succeed and loves Ethiopian food. I will not be back, please do better.
Nice fix for injera cravings. Flavorful dishes. I read that it could get noisy as it’s also a bar but I came late afternoon on a weekday so it was quiet and not many people there.
Great atmosphere and service! The food was delicious!
Very tasty and a generous portion
Went to pick up an order, the guy is more interesting talking to his friends and cook the food.
Food not as fresh as I want it to be.
Soooo delicious. Friendly service and amazing food. I could come everyday! Highly recommended
Good food but small portions this is not how Ethiopian food is not a good representation of the Ethiopian culture in Vancouver . Not worth it
The food was amazing.
Always a great meal and I especially love the Veggie Platter.
Ive eaten at various Ethiopian restaurants across the country and in Vancouver, but their meal is second to none. It tastes just same like the one I had in Ethiopia. Kudos to you guys.
The place was very welcoming. The service was amazing, and the food was out of this world delicious!. Highly recommend this place.
The injera was too sour and the dish was taste less specially the beyaynet it was terrible I tried to introduce my Ethiopian food to my boyfriend but he didn t liked it
I was visiting Vancouver a few days ago me and my family decided to try this restaurant and we order the special ketfo and Kuanta Firfer and cha cha tibs the food was awful no flavour at all the ketfo was unappetizing with a chunk off meat this is the worst food I ever eat in my life I don t recommend anyone to west there money in there I wonder why the restaurant was empty dinner time on the weekend there was no one except my family and the owner so stay away from that restaurant trust me
There is no question how tasty the food is. My family and I felt that because we were not knowledgeable about their menu that we were taken advantage. We ordered 2 orders - (1) the Meat & Veggie Combo and the (2) Lamb Special. The Meat & Veggie Combo which supposed to have a big portion of beef and the Lamb Combo which was supposed to be in a separate injera plate, the female owner/server put everything together in just one plate. The one plate had eveything in it with a small portion of beef and a little bigger portion of lamb - but all just in one plate, instead of 2 separate plates. We were so hungry that we did not complain anymore. But it was frustrating & disappointing to be taken advantage. No matter how delicious their food is, we will not go back. :(
I had a horrible experience at this place . Over the weekend, my family and I went to Abyssinia and to enjoy some Ethiopian food. but the owner was really unpleasant to us; she didnt seat us properly and walked away in the mid way of taking our order, stating Im busy. mind you theres only 4 people in the restaurant and us and it wasnt even busy. when asked the items on the menu she had nasty attitude and didnt response to what i was asked and rudely told us you guys are all talking we asked her is this how you treat your customers because clearly you have problem with us as she was treating others with kindness and respect. she walks off again stating dont tell me what to do im busy we get up and told her we will have other dinner else where because clearly we were not welcome here. honestly never will i ever recommend this place to anyone i know if theyre treating some of their customers this way.
I will never recommend or dine this place every again. horrible customer service experience.
I am not recommending any one to go this place they really didnt welcome us and refused to take our order And the lady in that restaurant is so weird and racist
Do not listen to the negative comments. From first hand experience I can tell you that this restaurant is absolutely delicious. We dined In the restaurant, this is a place you want to experience I m Lebanese so I crave food with flavour. Flavour is what you get here! The Woman who runs the place is absolutely adorable. My service and experience was fantastic. This is food for a soul. I ll 100% be back. Thank you so much! Vegetarian options: Awesome for all you Veggie lovers
We arrived around 9:30, open the door so about three or four people at the counter the music was too loud, so we left. We were looking forward to eating some nice Ethiopian food as well, sadly it wasnt meant to be at this restaurant
Excellent food very tasty
Si delicious foods yummy
Soooo delicious. Friendly service and amazing food. I could come everyday! Highly recommended
Very tasty food....
Delicious food
Nice small place, good spicy food and a service with a smile.
Shared 3 different dishes and 2 were great but the 3rd was a bit boring. Not a lot of selections on the menu. However, of our 3 dishes, none were similar so that helps keep a smaller menu more exciting. Service was good and personable. Prices are a bit higher than I expected but you dont need to order anything with your meal, its serverd with bread and salad already.
so delicious! never disappoints!! very kind staff and manager!
I find this place to be wonderful to try some Ethiopian cuisine. wonderful owner and friendly staff makes this place another reason to visit again and again. Good job guys i will visit again.. Cheers
It was great
Authentic and delicious Ethiopian dishes. I absolutely love their sour bread. Great service too. Thank you.
Fantastic food big portions
The food is very delicious. Im very impressed. The customer service is excellent. I called in to place my order for pick up and the guy was very nice, professional and personable. I ordered the Abyssinia Yebeg Tibs (Lamb). I highly recommend this location. I promise you will never be disappointed. The food is good!
I love Abyssinia Restaurant. This place makes the most delicious food. Wanna get a taste of Heaven? A taste of delicious and authentic Ethiopian cuisine ? Trust me, you gotta checkout this restaurant. Not to mention the service is amazing by the owner and the woman (Im sorry I didnt catch your name ) who is there is amazing! Im always happy with the service she provides, very patient, very knowledgeable of the menu, kind and overall she is fantastic. The food is delicious and always fresh !
Leaking air-conditioning at the door that drips on customers as they enter. The server didnt have ample knowledge about the food.
It is my second time trying an Ethiopian restaurant. I should tell food wasn t perfect but ok. I tried meat with salad. You will be super full with the portion for sure. Washrooms were super dirty, I don t wanna give details about it. Anyways, You can give a try to have Ethophian style food.
Nice Ethiopian Restaurant!
The food is amazing and flavorful, and they do have Vegetarian and Vegan options. Would be better if their food is bit warm but other than that I really enjoyed eating.
Amazing food and people. The places really made my day. The meat and vegetable combo was so filling and delicioy, highly recommend it. Chill and friendly vibe.
We have ordered from here a few times as love Ethiopian food. The flavours were great but disappointed with the veggie platter cold twice.
Authentically Ethiopian, going by the fact that EVERYONE ELSE in the place was, or appeared to be, Ethiopian. Food was beautifully seasoned, interestingly presented, and clearly explained for us uninitiated. A truly impressive range of liquor too! Not a fancy place by any stretch, but pleasant enough.
Ordered take-out combination platters. Super tasty.
The staff were nice. It felt very authentic. We ate the vegetarian platter (take-out). It was okay, but didnt appear to be their specialty. Some restaurants are just better if you eat meat, but since I dont eat meat I cant say.
Gone to and ordered from this place for a couple years now. Never disappointing. If youve never had Ethiopian before, their Doro Wot (chicken stew) or Meat & Veggie is the way to go. The Yebeg Tibis (lamb) is to die for if you like lamb. Portions vary in size sometimes when you order online, but usually two dishes can last me multiple lunches & dinners.
Amazing Ambience. Amazing Food. You should definately come! The owner is amazing and very friendly!
Ordered online and the food was stale and horrible. Never eating from here again.
Good costumer service!!!
The food is great but the waitress seems not to understand my inquiry.
owner can be rude at times, maybe he is drinking.
Cozy atmosphere and good food.
Excellent service and food like home
The best place to find very traditional home made food and space come there you and your family will enjoy it . Ethioeritrea food ever .
From what you expect to what you get is very different, when you walk in, you are greeted and seated and the food took a bit longer then 15 minutes. For the food itself is decent, the sour bread and the meat was very different and left you unsatisfied but feeling full. Sadly I would not recommend the food I got, I got the Lamb and Chicken. More variety to the meal would go along way
Friendly place....I ordered doro tibis is really nice...
Came for lunch (12:21) during their posted hours and completely closed. Pretty difficult to try the menu if not even open!
Nice and friendly place
I tried this place because I was in the neighbourhood... I wish I hadn t. The experience was overall bad. The restaurant isn t clean, both inside and out. The service was mediocre at best, and they didn t seem to care. The food was okay, but it was too expensive for the portion that you got. I would not recommend it.
Gave meat on multiple items in the vegetarian section. Owner wasn t accommodating at all. Scraped two items in the garbage.
Really great Ethiopian food. The owners are really kind as well. We had a party there. It was tight with 40 people but the food was great and they handled it really well.
Came here once in the summer. Food is decent. Service was variable.
Great Ethiopian food
I love Ethiopian food. I ordered the beef tibbs with a veggie combo. It was very well done and they provided a very generous injera portion. Service was very good and friendly. It does not seem like a tourist restaurant, but more where ethiopian locals go to eat. The tibbs were excellent, spiced just right. The veggy platter was also very good.
The food and service is top notch, definitely recommend!
Good food, awkward staff
Really delicious food, and generous serving sizes. We werent sure what to order so we asked for recommendations and our server was very helpful. The place is a little small (especially the bathroom) but they also have outdoor seating.
Be ware be ware especially Americans. Avoid going there if you can if not at least carry Canadian dollar with you. Me and a friend of mine had two orders which was a total of $28 (Canadian). We gave him $100 (US dollar). The guy acted smart and charged us $30 (US dollar) and gave us ($70 Canadian) and claimed currency exchange is 1:1 because we didnt purchase something worth of $500. That means we got charged $60 (Canadian) for something worth $28. That is typical business man that we normally see in Addis Ababa.
Injera was cold; maybe my Ethiopian food standards are high, food was blander and more watered-down than better places like Harambe.
Tasty food. I would have preferred the bread/pancake warm instead of cold.
Dont ever order from here. I tried to order from here using Skip The Dishes. I made sure that my order way place my order well in advance for a 12:30 / 1:00 pm pick up and they told the delivery company that they wouldnt have the food ready until 2:00 PM. I wouldnt get my LUNCH until 3:00 PM. DONT OFFER DELIVERY IF YOU CANT DELIVER!
3.5 stars. Great service. Super sweet owner. Food was tasty but I have had so much amazing Ethiopian food, and this place didnt hit that same level. Had the veggie platter.
Good food and a great coffee..
Had the vegetarian platter. Was really cheap tasty and the service was fast.
Theres one woman running the show here. The delicious food appeared as she emerged from behind the kitchen.
Friendly owners, decent quality, fair prices
I have been here 3 times. Food is amazing but I would not suggest this reastruant for a group of more than 6 and only buy individuals meals of their menu. After much confusion, I was sold a sample plate to feed 9 people but when I got it home it was enough food for 3 or 4 people to sample because of this I will never go back. Its to bad because I love the food but I do not like being ripped off.
Some of the best Ethiopian in the city! The owners are very sweet...try the honey wine!
terrible place have ever been, cant even call a Ethiopian restaurant rather Ethiopian wrestling because of worst service by an oversize woman. i was scary when found no one except the said woman who was sleeping in the restaurant by lunch time. she woke up, after i said hello three times, what can i get for you in an ill manner. she got menu after an hour and stood on me. it seems most of dishes are only on the menu, i picked one and she said we dont have, when i picked the second one, she got mud at me leave this place and dont wann serve. i was like thank you for saving my money. there is no cashier, no waiter and no chef, only the said woman. finally i found why she was the only person in the restaurant and she chased everyone away. the truth is you dont feel good when restaurant has no customers. dont get surprised if the same thing happened to you!!! i doubt if fraser health is aware of this restaurant? NO STARTS AT ALL
Awesome service and delicious food!!!
Really yummy food at a very fair price. We will be back.
Not the best Ethiopian cuisine in Vancouver, but certainly delicious and enjoyable!
