Mediterranean inspired cuisine. Lakeside restaurant and Patio, locally sourced ingredients, and warm, welcoming service. Summer garden patio with a view of the park and water. Private Dining and Event Space for corporate meeting, social gatherings, or outdoor summer weddings. All Day Menu & Weekend a la carte Brunch. Wine and cocktail list, local craft beer.
We had a wonderful lunch. The food was delicious, excellent service and beautiful Christmas decorations. Our group was in a side room so it wasn’t too noisy.
We were greeted by a friendly gentleman as soon as we entered. The fireplace was on; warming guests as they entered. We tried the set menu with wine pairings with each course. We were given a pre appy snack which was a nice surprise. My favourite dish was the steelhead. The fish was perfectly cooked and the flavours worked well together. My husband enjoyed his roasted duck. The servers were attentive and sweet. We were happy and full when we left. We’d definitely come back!
Sonja, Gen, and the rest of the Hart House team are absolutely amazing. I had my wedding here - specifically inside their event tent - and even with the rain, it was beyond magical. The bartenders were on point, the staff were super friendly and accommodating, everything was set up and in complete sync with my coordination vendors. The food itself was divine. Guests kept complimenting me on the food selections and dessert choices! Overall, Hart House is the perfect place for a lush green and quiet lunch and dinner, for exploring the grounds and Deer Lake, or for a major milestone event like your wedding day. We don’t live in Vancouver, but we can’t wait to keep coming back to Hart House over the years!
Busy afternoon with a large wedding party on the lawn overlooking the lake. We enjoyed the outdoor dining area. The “happy hour” menu was offered until 5 pm when the dinner menu was available. The happy hour menu was limited but adequate. We had mussels and clams, fish cakes and Caesar salad. All nicely presented and tasty. Desserts were crème brûlée and fruit Pavlova. Both very good. Service would be 5-star except that my wife’s plate arrived more than 5 minutes after my shellfish dish. A couple normally expects to have entrees served to them at the same time. Young woman serving us though was excellent.
Great location, exceptional service. Dined outdoor, surrounded by plants and flowers everywhere. Our table was facing a giant green yard used by the owners for a wedding party happening at the same time. Lovely atmosphere. Food was great, and service was really top class. A bit too expensive but overall is worth the price. Thank you
Beautiful place ! Excellent service and food! We sat in the patio area for lunch and had the view of the lake and the open grass area where they would set up for weddings! Love coming here every year to celebrate birthdays with friends:) Erkin the manager is friendly and so welcoming! The servers are all excellent as well:)
Our dining experience in this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. This feel-good-and-charming restaurant was a delight from start to finish. The dishes we ordered was really delicious, the plating is beautifully done. It's charming ambience is the cherry on top. You can walk outdoors and if your lucky, there might just be a wedding ceremony going on with all the flowers blooming. It's a great scenery while dining in. Love, love, love this place!
Edit: we returned for our anniversary. Excellent food and service, and a wonderful night out! We visited Hart House Restaurant for a work function. We were seated upstairs which offered a cozy meeting room with technology for the PowerPoint. My husband had a view of Deer Lake and commented several times about how pretty it was. Buffet dinner was tasty. I’d love to go back!
Weve loved this place for a long time and have been coming at least once a year for our special events. The food was even better than before, since the new executive chef joined. We were very impressed by their appetizers, and main dishes. We had seared scallops, mushroom arancchini, ricotta gnocchi with mushrooms, and halibut. They offered a amuse-bouche that was very tasty and pleasant. Everything was well seasoned and delicious. Gnocchis melt in your mouth and fish/scallops were perfectly cooked. The scallops and the mushrooms in ricotta gnocchis were AMAZING! We felt the care that was put into cooking the food by the chefs. Would love to visit again to try other dishes soon. The server was very nice, friendly and accommodating. The only thing we missed was the overall service was slightly slow. But the quality of food and great ambiance of this place make up for it. This is a real gem in Burnaby. You get better food than other casual western restaurant franchises for similar prices.
Everything that you could want in a relaxed evening out. Good food, excellent service in a comfortable setting. The Chef s three course meal was excellent.
[Update after receiving an ironic reply] It s comforting to know that your many cherished Asian guests are proof of your inclusivity what a relief! As for your kind suggestion that I might find better dining elsewhere, I appreciate the honesty. It s rare for a restaurant to so subtly encourage its patrons to leave. Rest assured, I ll take your advice. [Original Review] My family had a brunch here, the experience is not quite pleasant, as the speghtini allo scoglio for my mum is excessively salty also, a person placed the sharing plate on top on my husband s folk and knife, not sure if that s on purpose (we are asian, the owner/manager looks obviously more hospitable with other caucasian customers). To be fair, the ambience is nice and its lakeside location is prime. Probably won t go again.
Great place to hold medium-sized events!
Very nice first experience here (for me) and we were a few friends celebrating someone s birthday. The waitress was attentive and nice, welcoming and made us feel like a priority, the food was delicious, nicely cooked and well plated, the atmosphere is calm and peaceful in a formal environment. I ll come here again in the future, it was excellent.
Great menu and the food was delicious. Really enjoyed the pickled beets and melted goat cheese salad. Wheelchair accessibility: I have mobility issues so having the cement ramp at the entrance made walking so much easier.
The arancini were good as was the steelhead salmon and croquette. However, I think the dishes are highly overpriced for what you get. I think it was a nice environment, but probably wont be going back.
Extremely slow service. Took three hours for dinner when it was not busy. Waitress was very rude to other staff. Food was pretty good, but small portions and very expensive. Nice atmosphere. Will not go again.
Beautiful place but food, well not good. If you are paying a premium price for a beautiful place like this, you expect delicious food, well not in my case , pasta was undercook and my wife s risotto wasn t good at all , eatable but not high class food.
Great restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. The staff is friendly and attentive, creating a wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere is warm. Definitely worth a visit!
I have been to Hart house many times over the years... everyone wants to try it... great ambiance... but, never had a good meal there... uncooked fish to horribly salty lamb... whats up? Not that hard to serve a good meal. Parking: cool
Always nice to dine at the Hart House. Its such a beautiful location.
Biked down from our house to check this place out. With plenty of seating available, we were dismissively told there was no availability and that maybe we should drive next time. Clearly there is some kind of dress code that is hidden from potential guests. Im sure the food is nice, but Ill never know. I dont plan on coming back.
My husband and I and his business group had a private room dinner last night. It was amazing from the property and the restaurant itself was terrific. Our set course meal with options was delicious and it was a royal treat. The furnishings, carpets and drapes made for a softer sound dinner. The pavlova was the best I ve ever had. Keep up the good work
It has been decorated for Halloween
I usually dont write google reviews but we had wonderful experience in Hart House Restaurant today so here I had to give 5 stars to them. Ive been to Hart House few times for last few years and they have been always the best. So grateful that they adore my lil pup every time. Thank you for the great service and nice food as well!
Food was great. Service was okay how ever we felt that we have been rushed out even though it was not late
Very delicious food and friendly staff! Will definitely return
We attended a private wedding event there. The day turned out to be beautiful. The setup was perfectly done. The atmosphere was great. The food was the buffet, which was absolutely delicious, I wanted seconds. The staff was super friendly and service was awesome.
Good Food itself had good flavours for the Spaghettini allo Scoglio and Steelhead Dutch Baby Ok Limited menu for weekend brunch, seating for two was not that comfortable and felt a bit crowded. Wish they had the 3 course lunch menu for weekend as well Bad Service was really really bad, I don t know if it s cause they were understaffed or just the staff training when we got in, we were sorta ignored and not really greeted. The person that was our server didn t give us any refill of water even tho we asked I still gave them relatively ok tip but I really disliked the whole experience. Their washroom was very dirty with sticky floors in men washroom and water everywhere in lady s. I definitely do not recommend spending any bday here because they don t have bday specials and had the tiniest piece of a cake the size of a thumb nail or so. It was so bizarre.
I think my expectations were wrong. When I looked at the menu and saw the prices and what is offered, I assumed this would be an experience in the line of Blue Water, Mckenzie Room, Boulevard etc. Prices are that of an upscale restaurant, the place is not. Food is okay, for a diner. Service is good for a cheap family restaurant. Old smelly building with no air conditioning, feels dead, hollow and depressing. Probably appealing to old people and the novelty of being in an older house in the park. Maybe some quiet music, a bit more relaxed atmosphere, definitely AC and prices that match what this is and this could be a superb establishment. If you really want to dine in Deer Lake Park, go for it; just know its not the fancy restaurant with exquisite food and service the prices suggest.
I love this restaurant! Patio dining, Twinkle lights, heat lamps, great service and wonderful food. This is my happy place. The menu is always fresh with new drinks, desserts and entrees. The staff are definitely top notch. A true Burnaby gem.
This is a taste of excellence in every aspect. Our son had his engagement dinner there and it was all phenomenal.

All 5 Star, Food was delicious, good service - there was no rush to order food or any disturbance at all, smiling faces, kind hearted staff and top notch service, atmosphere is the beauty, must visit to feel it. Thank you for serving the experience with food Team Hart House!
Always a nice treat
Every year we bring my best friend s family w parents and my family w parents to brunch We love everything about the restaurant I will come again for sure And it s also so close by the Burnaby museum Please let me have more choices of dishes for recommendations Kid-friendliness: We have a party of 12 with plus a toddler. They have us a room so the kids can roam around (although the toddler was quite all the time and most of the roaming was done on his stroller in the room
A true landmark
My son and I had a Thursday guys night out at the Hart House . Delicious ribeye steak with an equally delicious potato, the soup of the day was a creamy fennel and carrot surprise. Finished with the Balkan Cheesecake. Food
An exceptional meal in a beautiful setting. Our waitress Gabrielle was funny and attentive with excellent recommendations. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. A wonderful experience!
Definitely this is the right place to enjoy time with your friends and family. Amazing view, everything is good.
Phenomenal through and through from excellent service to delicious food. A hidden gem for those not from the area, and one you should treat yourself to
Its great.
Staff were friendly and food was wonderful. The atmosphere is always welcoming
Absolutely loved everything about this restaurant! I celebrated my Birthday with family & we had a great time. The staff is so friendly and very helpful. Food was so good! We would definitely go back.
Not to miss! Excellent food, great service, excellent wine list
Absolutely wonderful dining establishment! The location is convenient, and if you opt to rest on the patio, you will be able to take in some very beautiful scenery. The members of the staff are not only courteous but also very knowledgeable. Because it was such a pleasant dining experience, I wish they kept up the same level of service now and future.
Nice and friendly servers. Foods were not too bad. I would suggest just do share. The steak I had was pretty tasty. The atmosphere is pretty vintage looking.
Random find on Google, relatively busy with a large group of 15 ahead of us. I liked how the waiter informed us on how busy the kitchen will be and that he would try and rush our order, a very nice touch. The 3 of us all ordered different meals, steelhead risotto, seared scallops, and the lamb. All had medium sized portions, the plating was done with a great deal of care, the quality of food felt above average. Small parking was offered outside, cozy indoor dining, great for a date, outside dining with a great lake view and quiet ambiance, they also offer to do wedding venues. Overall impression was great service, excellent food, and amazing vibe. Definitely a place to try out.
I enjoy the night and the food for my cousin wedding, good job.
It was indeed a lovely establishment, offering a delightful fine dining experience. The service was truly exceptional, and the ambiance was warm and inviting, creating a sense of home away from home. Food
Lovely setting in an old house. White table cloths added to the classy environment.
Hart House Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience in a stunning, historical setting. The ambiance is elegant yet inviting, perfect for special occasions or a romantic evening out. The menu showcases a sophisticated blend of classic and contemporary dishes, all beautifully presented and using high-quality ingredients. The service is impeccable; staff are attentive and knowledgeable, making each guest feel truly special. The views of the lake add an extra touch of tranquility, making meals here not just about food but an entire sensory experience. Highly recommend Hart House for an exquisite culinary adventure!
A proper evening with your loved ones. Simple things like being greeted warmly, or an excellent bread basket start things off so well. Front of house staff second to none with a kitchen that is amazing in that it serves as a premier dining spot as well as serving their lakeside banquet tent.
Awesome experience for a wedding reception
Very friendly and polite staff members and management.
Pricey but beautiful location and good quality.
Located in a charming historic house in the midst of a park. Cozy. Service was good, menu a bit limited for non-meat-eaters. Bread & butter ($6) was delish. The Spaghettini allo Scoglio was good but clams were teeny. Lamb shank was tasty. Overall, enjoyable visit.
The service staff was lovely but the food was only ok considering we spent a lot to dine there. I would have preferred smaller portions and higher quality in taste, the flavors were pretty muted in our opinion. We were probably the youngest people there by at least 15 years and we are in our mid thirties, so perhaps its a older crowd that dines here.
Tbh, its not all that and a bag of chips. Trying too hard to be something its not.. No beer on tap , but theyll charge you $10 for a tall boy from BC liquor ( you could get a 4 pack for $16 ) and $6 for a soda water . The burger was reasonable, but at $30, once you add the bacon, its getting pricey. Fries were poor. I could go on, but you can probably eat just as well and cheaper at somewhere like Cactus Club. Im not in any rush to go again.
Everything was great! Attended for a party in the northwest room, servers were super accommodating for the various needs of the guests. The food was phenomenal. I highly recommend the tenderloin!
Group met for a meeting in private dining room
A Valentines 5 course meal at Hart House would typically be a plushy, opulent extravaganza, but the distance between tables was cosy enough to hint that this was more a casual chic than a suited-up affair. Ive never been here, so it was especially galling to have lived in the Lower Mainland for a quarter of a century without gracing the stoop of this venerable house. Then again, Im widowed, for more than that length of time, so I comforted myself with a rose and a fresh steak tartare with a companion who loves all things shared and critiqued. Hart House is the sort of venue where romantic foodies flock. Not a big fan of tongue (the plated veal, and not the French style of bussing), I had the Vitello Tonnato which had more tuna tataki than beef in the dish. It was a welcome balance of sea and grassland meat. The Confit Duck Agnolotti was surprisingly tart for its lurking olives, but the best mustve been the Seared Lois Lake Steelhead, swimming in sea urchin buerre blanc and parsnip puree (both of which I didnt care for), but in the end, quite liked. After weve been pavlova-ed and mango-curded, we stepped out with surprised that we had five courses, but with the right proportions to make us feel sufficiently satiated without being over-stuffed. Thats probably worth the price of admitting it was all worth it. Thank you, J, for a delightful evening.
food was beautiful (presentation wise) + caesar salad was splendid. however, service is somewhat neglectful (absolute bare minimum).
We dined here tonight as part of Bite of Burnaby. We both ordered the prix fixe menu and one 3 course wine pairing. If you have never been the Hart House is a lovely, quaint old heritage building (so there is the occasional ant visiting, and the A/C is open window(s) - keep that in mind on a hot non-breezy day). The service was attentive, friendly and excellent (other than a delay of several minutes before the arrival of the dessert wine caught up with the dessert). The meal began with a surprise: a delicious amuse bouche with duck and hummus in a pastry shell. We both had the Caesar salad (after all its the Ides of March LOL). Fresh, mild with caramelized bacon zing. The mains were the Short Rib and Steelhead. I couldnt have been happier with the Short Rib. It makes me want to come back and have it again tomorrow. The Steelhead was also delicious. However, the pickled turnip was inconsistent and clashed terribly with the wine, which otherwise paired beautifully with the Steelhead. So ...use it as a palate cleanser and alternate it and the wine with the main in-between. Worked out well. I had the pair-me-with-pear cocktail and it was a tickle for the tastebuds throughout the meal. We both had the maple creme brulee and it made Canada proud. Fantastic layers of hard vs silk, warm vs cold, sweet vs ...sweeter. Divine. I definitely recommend going during Bite of Burnaby! I would happily go again. Parking: Reasonable number of spots a short walk from the restaurant.
Great place for a special night out with love ones.. Food is excellent, the service is awesome.. only one negative no chicken on the menu.. but everything else was tasty and had a good time there..
Great food for a quaint little spot. Servers worked hard to make service delightful.
Best place for dinner party.
Came in Feb 14 for a Valentines lunch..always forget how wonderful this place is! Food was absolutely phenomenal..will be back sooner than later
It is a beautiful place to be. We were there for lunch. Personally, I thought there was too much fish and shellfish on the menu, but everyone had a great meal and a good time. The service was phenomenal and the staff were great. It was my first time dining there, but definitely not my last. Merry Christmas everyone
The quality wasnt amazing and the portions left us hungry.
A delicious dinner with a warm heart in a nice atmosphere. I came here
We had the pleasure of dining at Hart House for Christmas dinner. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It was a set menu with several options. The food was delicious. I loved the decor and layout. It is a unique and magical establishment.
I have been there a few times. Brunch and dinner. All was excellent. Service, food and it is a great spot. I will go back and highly recommend it !
A recommendation we received from a friend of ours. We went with the new years special, honestly it was our first time with this kind of menu but everything was really delicious, specially the main entrée, as our family gathering we couldnt ask for a better place.
The dining experience at Hart House is the epitome of refinement. I give a five star rating because that is what is deserved. If there is a special occasion ahead for you do plan to go to Hart House. Phyllis Mary Bell
I absolutely love that this place is inside an old heritage home. The back patio area is the best place to eat by far. The food was very fancy and delicious. The only thing is that it took about 45 mins to come and thats just way too long for how much youre paying. Maybe it was just the time that I went at but still it should be faster.
Hart House is welcoming and warm. The staff is amazing and very friendly. They meat all the expectations with fine dining- in my opinion. Would definitely recommend
Excellent heritage restaurant. Service was amazing. Wouldnt suggest the steak. Everything else was tasty and well presented.
Beautiful old house to dine in but could use a bit of updating and would be nice if there were more plants or dividers to make it feel like your table is more private. I had the dine-out menu which was yummy. The salad was a bit dry and the salmon wasn t very flavourful but the duck was very good and the desserts, especially the toffee pudding, were excellent. Service was good.
This is a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous view of the Deer lake. Nice ambiance and very business oriented atmosphere. The food is pricey and the quality is average.
Eating there it feels like you are at home. The staffs are very friendly they treat you well and they provide you good service and the food was delicious. By the way try their knuckle sandwich on their lunch menu it s pretty good.
$450 dollars for decent-ish food. Came in with a 4-person family birthday dinner. All 4 of us got the $70 per person 3 course meal + drinks/wine. The most disappointing part of the meal was without a doubt the grilled Humbolt Squid starter - it was only 2 pieces of squid (no bigger than the size of my thumb each) on a bed of quinoa. Had we of gotten the starter alone it was $19..... Do not order it - its such a waste of money and the taste was basic and absolutely nothing special. Main course was leg of lamb - for this i would actually give it a 5\5 - the flavour was great, lamb was fall off the bone and the portion was an honest portion compared to the started & dessert. Dessert was baklava w/ ice cream and again very disappointed - the serving of the ice cream was no bigger than the size of a golf ball and the baklava was no bigger than 1/4th of your palm of your hand. I will never come back because at $450 dollars I could have had an amazing meal downtown at Hys steakhouse or some extremely high end restaurant and would have had a solid meal with all the fixings. Sorry but I cant recommend this place nor would i ever come back.
It was the 1st time I went there for my birthday and it was beautiful except. I really believe that it should be a dress code because some of the people looked Scruffy. I think for birthday you should get free dessert. Vegetarian options: Pasta and mushroom
Nice open fireplace
What a wonderful time and meal spent with family. Thank you for your kind services.
My husband and I had the duck. Not tender at all with two asparagus spears and mashed potatoes I believe. At $45.00 an entree the portions were very small. The manager did give us 50% off but very disappointing. It was my birthday dinner.
It s gorgeous here. Service is great, food is fresh and tasty. The ingredients are fresh and high quality. Love here, have to come back soon.
Very good Italian cuisine Very pleasant and shaded terrace.
chefs menu: a taste of the middle east (69) - grilled humboldt squid + ras el hanout braised lamb shank + walnut baklava / aaa beef tenderloin (62) / pan seared halibut (45) / seared duck breast (45)
Went for the Mothers Day Brunch. Seating outside was spectacular, service was absolutely first rate. Unfortunately the buffet left much to be desired. The Brisket was tough and stringy, everything else was uninspired. I was expecting so much more.
A beautiful restaurant and great food, congratulations to the CHEF
Cons: dead bugs on the walls and windows. Ruined appetite
The food is pricey but I am very sorry to say that it was really nothing to shout about. The look and location of this restaurant is so quaint and has a lovely European feel. On entering, the musty smell of the carpet or whatever kinda hit me in the face and that is something they should be aware of. So outdoors was the seating of choice today. Had to stare at a huge temporary tent that has blocked out some of the lake view. Hopefully that will not stay too long, though it did seem like it was kept there for special events. The portion is very small for the price (30 cad) and I had ordered the mussels and clams and the crab eggs benny came with fried potatoes and very little crab. I was expecting the eggs to sit on a crab cake for 30 bucks, but it was on a muffin smeared with 2 teaspoons of crab meat with some creamy paste. Taste was mehhh, but as always I take great photos of my dishes like most Asians do as a compliment to the chefs art.
Beautiful place to have a good meal! Their $6 bread was fresh and warm and came with delicious butter. For mains, We ordered the Pea Risotto, burger, and the clams pasta. They were all very tasty and had great flavors to them. I definitely recommend getting the truffle fries as a side to share. Service was great and the ambiance was beautiful. We got to watch a wedding that was happening in their garden area. My only complaint is that there isn t a lot of vegetarian options for dinner. Other than the risotto, there was a vegan soup of the day.
Excellent experience at Hart House. The service was awesome and so was the food. We ordered Taboulli Salad, Lamb Shank, and Sea Food Risotto.
Always returning for more good food!
Best fine dining in Burnaby.
Great service, very friendly, amazing food for the price, big portions, and the place is beautiful! Great for a romantic dinner or special occasion.
Delicious food, awesome service, they have coat check, lovely location right on the lake. The staff was super friendly too.
Nice place to eat...but really its all about location. Food was pretty mediocre considering its supposed to be up scale.
Beautiful place, nice to eat at the patio. The dishes were good, but the pasta was a little bit salty.
The food tastes decent, the service is good, the prices are a bit on the expensive side. The patio provides a serene view overlooking Deer Lake, which creates a truly relaxing atmosphere. Moreover, the establishment welcomes dogs, making it a dog-friendly place to visit
Attended a wedding, the food was amazing! I will be back there time I come to Vancouver!
Came for a wedding in the tent. Really beautiful site. Service was friendly and respectful of the speeches. Food was quite good though lacked a bit in flavor.
The server Alegro was awesome, she made the experience for our group of 7 terrific!
The Hart House is.... quaint. It is a heritage house that is a restaurant. The food was good, the service was a little slow. But hey, youre having lunch. If you want fast, go to some place that can serve you a meal in 4 minutes or less. Here, things take time, and Im OK with that. We sat, had some wine, ate a bit, talked, had some more wine; you get the picture. Overall a wonderful time, the bill was reasonable, especially these days. And the area is peaceful and quiet. It is in a park after all. If you havent been... go. If you havent been in a while.... go back. This is one of those hidden treasures that need to be visited every once in a while.

Attended a wedding here and every aspect was on point. Exquisite setting. Delicious food.
The place is very good for parties and such as they have a huge backyard that can be used for bigger parties if the inside can t fit as much people. The food there was great and the servers there were nice as well.
Appetizers and mains were well prepared although Carbonara was a touch on the salty side. The appetizer scallop dish had three smaller than expected scallops, which they informed us about, although it would have been nicer to have a fourth. I also expected a bit more from the cocktails for the price. Otherwise, great location, calm atmosphere and friendly service! 4.5
Seared scallops appetizer and seared cod main, delicious
Lamb shank & Duck Confit were excellent
There are a lot of banquet reservations. Many times we don t accept reservations.
Proximity to Deer Lake and heritage building is what makes this restaurant stand out. Its quiet and cozy, with peaceful views of Deer Lake Park. If weather permits, ask the host to be seated outside, on the patio or even on the lawn to take full advantage of in-park location. We came here for birthday dinner. The service was friendly and rather quick, although our server mixed up two deserts (which was okay with us). The food was mediocre, but it probably depends on specific dish. My wifes paella was good (but not excellent), and my spaghettini were too salty. Prices are quite high; like, Vancouver-high. Nonetheless, well likely come back again. Parking: Plenty of on-site parking Kid-friendliness: Theyve got kids menu with your usual pizza, fries, chicken strips etc.
I had a very disappointing experience at Hart House restaurant today(Jul 29) when having brunch with a group of friends and their families. The waitress and the manager was quite rude and their condescending attitude made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Although our kids made some noise, we quickly addressed it right away. However, the manager approached us to ask the kids to keep quiet, even though they are just 2 years old. I tried taking them to the outside seating area, but the manager asked us to keep them by our table. Our kids are very well-behaved, and other guests were actually interacting positively with them. Additionally, as a group of 3 families with kids, we felt uncomfortable when two families left early, and the staff questioned if we would pay the entire bill as if we were trying to leave without paying. Another concerning aspect was that the waitress seemed to treat other Caucasian customers with smiles but was less friendly towards our Asian group. Furthermore, the food was excessively salty, even the kids pasta was much saltier than an adult pasta weve experienced elsewhere. Overall, we felt unwelcome as Asian customers, particularly those with kids. Its disappointing that the restaurant didnt treat us with the same respect and consideration as other patrons.
Had dinner on the patio. Perfect weather and a great meal. Came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Had the duck confit... Perfect portion and excellent.
Was there for a wedding. I cant really comment on the regular dinning room foods. The wedding foods were fine but its more like eating cafeteria food. However, the place is a old time mansion located in the lake side and has beautiful views around.
I ve been to Hart House once for dinner and it was very good. Unfortunately my recent happy hour visit fell a little short. The flatbread was bland, it tasted like a frozen pizza, the arancini and truffle fries were decent. The charcuterie board however was honestly disappointing and very small for $26. Our food also arrived before our drinks did. I probably won t be returning.
A little slice of heaven in the centre of Burnaby. Views that rival any in BC with Deer Lake in the background from the patio seating.
Great fine dining
My wife and I chose the Hart House Restaurant for our wedding venue in May 2023. It was absolutely stunning - like a dream that came true! The location is absolutely gorgeous with the view of the lake and the greenery around it. The tent they set up is sophisticated and welcoming at the same time. The food and service were outstanding! We went for the Deer Lake Buffet option and our guests loved it! Sonja helped us utilize the tent to add cultural and entertainment spaces. The staff were courteous, helpful and friendly. We strongly recommend the Hart House Restaurant as a wedding venue that encompasses the natural beauty of Greater Vancouver, sophistication, quality and great service! A special thank you to Sonja for helping us out from beginning to end!
Had lunch outside patio in Aug. nice view of Deer lake. Impressive service. Server also helped turn the umbrella on our table to suit us (shade/sun). We had the clam & mussels- sooo good! I would return again. We love the outdoor atmosphere experience & food.
This is definitely a hidden gem in Vancouver. Great service that allows you to enjoy the scenery and the food. Thank you for a beautiful Sunday.
Loved the place and the delicious brunch
The food is very ordinary, with small portions, and definitely overpriced. Service is not of high standard. We will not come again.
Great place for any occasion - from casual dinner to exclusive wedding
Went for a private event in the Lakeside Cottage just behind the main restaurant. It was a set 3 course lunch with the choice of an entree. The service was fantastic - came around often to fill up drinks and cleared the table fast and very discretly making sure not to interrupt any conversions. The food was delicious and was a very good portion. Had a minestrone soup to start, tenderloin as a main, and trifle for dessert. Steelhead and risotto were the other main options. The venue has wifi and two private washrooms and opens up to the big open lawn area that leads to the lake.
Over salted food. The chef given appetizer (some sort of fish) was cold, salty and given to my vegetarian family members. The lamb shank was over salted, meat was dry and tough, and the skin was soft and goopy. The risotto was also very salty with inconsistent cooked grains and was not hot. The only good thing with the over salted food is that your server will always make sure you have enough water. I drank 4 cups of water during the meal.
Foods well prepared and in adequate quantities. What is certain is that the courtesy of a particular waitress was not entirely correct. It was unfortunately because the rest were very favorable.
Nicely situated by the Deer lake park. The restaurant is in a little cozy historic house. People are friendly and attentive. Food is nice.
Fantastic service and great tasting food, you can tell the ingredients are super fresh and we didnt feel any bloat even after having so many dishes ordered!
Phenomenal food and excellent atmosphere/setting.
The lentil soup was excellent, though meager. The beef tenderloin was disappointing, tasteless and tough, definitely not triple A, as described.
Beautiful place for a romantic over looking the lake.
Great views and good food.
My husband and I got married at Hart House in August 2023. The venue itself is beautiful which was a big reason as to why we chose the venue to begin with. The beautiful cityscape and lake was the most wonderful backdrop one could have for a wedding. The outdoor tent space is beautifully decorated with pre-installed drapery which honestly, made it easy to decorate with simple touches. Prior to the big day, we worked with Sonja the Event Manager at Hart House for over a year. Although we had no issues on the big day, we did find communication to be a bit difficult with Sonja as emails could be missed for weeks and follow up emails were common on our end. We understood that Sonja was busy with other weddings and such, but it did make us feel less valued or cared for. One of the biggest issues we came across during the planning process which hopefully will serve as an FYI for future brides was the use of candles at the venue. During the planning process, we communicated that our centrepieces would be floating candles (real-not LED) inside hurricane vases. About 2 weeks prior to the big day, Sonja reached out informing us that due to the dry season, we will likely not be able to use real candles for the day of. As a bride who is in the midst of planning final details - this threw us into a panic. We already had everything purchased for our planned centrepieces and now we had to figure out an alternative. It was upsetting and unexpected as this possibility was never communicated during any of the planning process or within the contract. When I mentioned this to Sonja, the initial response we received was that we cannot include every possible event in the contract Fair enough but clearly BC has historically dry summers and we assume that this may be a rule that has been enforced in the past - why wouldn t this be something included within the contract or at least mentioned during any of our meetings? Lucky us - the weather cooled down a few days prior to our wedding and we were allowed to stick with our original plan. As for the wedding day, everything went smoothly. The event staff that day were great and ensured that us and our guests were well taken care of. For cocktail hour, we selected several different canapes - All were delicious and raved about. For dinner, we chose the Signature Buffet and it was absolutely delicious! Every single guest raved about the food during and after the wedding - especially the Truffle Mac and Cheese. The staff that day put in the extra effort to ensure that everything went according to plan and that everyone was having a great time.
Wonderful experience. Definitely be going back.
Classic old mansion with a theme of 19th century. Delicious food too.
Good food, relaxing ambiance and excellent customer service. Our server was charming and very hospitable.
Always a great meal at Hart House
People actually put on nice attire to go to this restaurant (not the easiest thing to find these days). The historic building has been maintained beautifully. The food is superb and the service is top notch. The perfect place to go for a special occasion
We chose the Hart House as the location for our wedding and we are very happy we did! We got married this fall and booked the Lakeside Cottage for the morning/early afternoon. It had a gorgeous view of the lake and was perfect for our small celebration. Sonja was so helpful through the process. She let us visit the room in the months leading up to the wedding so we could finalize our decor. The food was fantastic and the servers were attentive and professional. The surrounding area was also great for photos.
We only came here out of convenience because it was the only restaurant near deer lake. It s not a bad place, but definitely was higher end in terms of the price and the way the restaurant looks. It s a pleasant and clean place with some nice menu items, but it s a pretty small menu. The food was good, but we wouldn t say it was worth the price or the amount of food that was given. We ordered 2 vegetable risottos ($26 for one order), a harthouse burger ($26), shoestring frites ($6, forgot to take a picture), a Tagliatelle Cacio E Pepe ($22), a Basque Country cheesecake ($12, we forgot to take a picture), and some baguette dish that I forgot the name of. That being said, the staff were nice, the food was alright, and it s a very pricey place. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options Kid-friendliness: There s a kids menu
Right next to Deer Lake offering great view especially on a sunny afternoon Server is super friendly and attentive The food are scrumptious especially like the steak made to perfection Plenty of parking outside the restaurant Food : 5/5 |
Great food in a great location.
From walking in the front door to leaving the restaurant, everything was immaculate! The restaurant was cozy and beautiful, server was absolutely amazing, and the food was to die for! 100% would recommend this restaurant, especially for a special night out! Our server Gabrielle was absolutely amazing! She was so helpful, and very knowledgeable about the menu. She answered all of our questions with no problem. She was also very attentive, but never over-attentive, which is a very hard balance to achieve. On top of that she made my husband and I so comfortable, even though we had never been for such a nice dinner. The food and experience were amazing, but it was her that our evening unforgettable!
Really wonderful meals. Everything is satisfying.
Love the food, the ambient, the view and the services.
Very nice place, cozy atmosphere, great services. Food was ok. Grilled vegetable was fresh and sweet. Mussel meat was small. I wish they would have toasted the bun for the lobster roll.
Been going to the Hart House for years. I really enjoy the location. The food is usually excellent and the staff are great
Super fresh and high quality food! We had Caesar salad and roasted beef. Only 1 word to describe: delicious! The salad was fresh, and the meat was tender and flavourful, cooked to perfection! The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and very relaxing, perfect for a romantic evening meal. Ill definitely go back if I get the chance to.
Nicely renovated house now used as a restaurant. Those with an acute sense of smell will immediately notice the dank, old wood smell throughout the building. Its strong and doesnt go away at any point of the visit. Food was a buffet style for our function. The salmon was good. But the overall selection was small. Easily one of the worst Ceasars Ive ordered. Free parking was nice.
Company Christmas dinner party held there. It was very nice and perfect for our amount of people
My favorite place all time I love the atmosphere. It feels like youre invited to a nice dinner at an elegant house Youre dining out but it also feels like home. The service is excellent. Although the foods were served slowly, our server did her best and our group was very happy.
Upon entering the restaurant, it felt akin to stepping into a luxurious hotel. The ambiance unquestionably deserves a 5-star rating. I was seated by the window, providing a splendid view of Deer Lake. The food was exceptional, and the staff exhibited a high level of professionalism in explaining the menu. I am convinced that this place would be an excellent choice for special occasions.
A group of 11 ladies for brunch. Hard for staff to manage but they did a great job and the food was scrumptious.
