Italian Restaurant
From appetizers to desserts, this restaurant exceeded all our expectations! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavour. Staff was friendly and attentive. Also love the romantic ambiance. It was definitely a memorable dining experience. Can’t wait to come back again.
One of the best italian restaurants I’ve ever tried. Fantastic food with service that treats you like an old friend. The food comes from another world, flavourful and cooked to perfection. The most wonderful carbonara we’ve ever had. Highly recommend their Prosciutto & Melone and Calamari as well. All at a very reasonable price!
Fifth time in Portobello, and the service again was exceptional! This time we had the Cioppino Di Mare and Prosciuto with Melone. Gorgeous. Usually will get a Veal Milanaise, off menu. Accommodating and warm.
Tonight’s dinner at Portobello was quite fun! We invited some friends to join our family for dinner, and I could say it was good value for a lovely evening. The service was decent, around 4/5. We opted for the set menu, which included the soup of the day, with some guests choosing chicken and others going for the pasta option. The soup was just mediocre which was a clear soup with ravioli but was nice as a warm starter. The chicken with white sauce and vegetable was fantastic—I loved it! The pasta, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming :(; the tomato sauce was quite dry, and the shells didn’t impress. We had wanted to order the seafood pasta vongole with wine and olive oil, but they informed us there were no mussels in stock, so we were told to better go with another set menu in pasta by the male server which was a downer. Overall, considering the value and the romantic ambiance, I wouldn’t hesitate to return, as it lived up to my expectations.
It was an unforgettable experience with inviting decor set the perfect tone for a cozy Italian meal at Portobello. The food was outstanding. I highly recommend their Carbonara, one of my favorite! The service was attentive and friendly. Portobello is the place to go for authentic Italian cuisine with a welcoming atmosphere and top-notch service.
The dim lighting and soft Italian music create a romantic atmosphere. All food amazing and the service was impeccable and friendly . One of our best dining I ‘ve had in a long time highly recommend!
I had an incredible dining experience at this Italian restaurant! The appetizers, especially the fresh mussels and burrata, were delicious. The pastas were outstanding—Penne Con Polpette was tasty, and the Carbonara had a perfect, rich flavor balance. Both the veal and chicken were juicy and tender. The atmosphere was beautifully decorated with perfect lighting, giving it a romantic and comfortable vibe. Friendly staff and excellent service made the evening even better. Highly recommend!
Went here for my birthday. The pasta and seafood are delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back again to try other menu. Sometimes they have promotions like 3 course meal but it wasnt available anymore the time i visited them. The chef came out and sang a happy birthday for me. Appreciate this gesture. They are open only for dinner.
Highly recommend, family owned Italian restaurant with very delicious food, I think people are all so used to franchise that we almost forgot how amazing it is to dine at such warming restaurant. Owners are super friendly, service is attentive but not overwhelming. We ordered A LOT of food and nothing was left. Everything is so yummy and you can taste that food was prepared by heart, which is very rare nowadays.
We went there for dinner a few weeks back. The food was delicious; I had the soup and veal and they were both very very good, she had the clams and pasta and they were cooked to perfection. I would high recommend this place; the price was really reasonable.
My whole family went for my birthday, but it took us almost an hour and a half to wait for our food. I was exhausted from hunger and felt all bad. But the owner was not there, nor was there any replacement. Places like Whitespot dont even charge for food 15 minutes after the order is placed. We paid over $300 for food with no acknowledgment. There were only 2 people in the kitchen and the restaurant was not big enough to accommodate us. I think something needs to be done to make customers happy.
We had a long wait for our second order, and the main course was not warm enough
Perfect for a aniversario or a romantic dinner
It was an awesome experience. The service was good, and the food was delicious.
We had a very memorable and satisfying dining experience at Portabello! The interior is exquisite, food was delightfully delicious and service was very friendly. Will definitely visit again in the near future!
Amazing food wonderful staff
Great food and service. The hot in-house baked bread, the arugula salad, salmon pasta, and gnocchi were all delicious. Definitely going back to try more.
This place was incredible, we were late for our reservation. They got us in and out before the concert. Everyone who works there was so attentive and food was to die for. My mouth is watering just thinking about it
I wish there was a 10 star options. Outstanding food and service. Im from out of town and will make a point of going back often to Portobello when Im back!!!!
Our group was in a rush to have a nice dinner and get to a concert and the staff excelled at all levels. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back again to try other options. Staff was very attentive and it was a fantastic experience. Will definitely be back soon. oh ya The Meatballs are a must addition to your meal even if you get them to go ; )
Oh my gosh, we had the most amazing dinner last night! The Burrata salad and the chicken entre was so delicious and I recommend ordering meatballs on the side! While everyone else ordered the creme bruleè, I got the meatballs! We cant wait to go back again!
We had an 10th Anniversary dinner at Portobellos. There was a lovely table set up against the back wall for us. The food and service were just excellent. Those who were there for the first time will definitely be going back! Thank you Portobello for an awesome evening
Super friendly service The food is loved and the taste was wonderful in all 3 dishes we had The restaurant is tastefully decorated and cosy.
Great food. Great atmosphere.
I came with a few friends for a birthday celebration and it was a great experience. The food was fresh and tasty. My friends that got the Spaghetti di Mare said the seafood was very fresh, and the veal was very tender as well. Definitely will be back and highly recommend to anyone that wants good Italian food Vegetarian options: They have some nice options for vegetarians, including a primavera and a ravioli
Had the most amazing time on our spontaneous trip here! Wonderful food and fantastic service, I m so happy to have discovered this gem. Lovely time and I ll definitely be back!
Fresh ingredients, and the chef has superb culinary skills. Best Tiramusu. Great ambience and not noisy despite full seating.
I ordered the pesto pasta and it was delicious. Very fresh! I will be back.
Feels comfortable not ordering any drinks, and they dont push alcohol like other restaurants.
5 food & service! The carbonara is seriously amazing, and I m not a tiramisu person but I loved theirs. Just found my new go-to Italian place in Vancouver.
Came here on a weekend evening to celebrate my husband s birthday. Service was great. Food was served in good timing. We had mussels for appetizers and it was absolutely the best mussels both freshness and its butter wine sauce! For mains, we had a spaghetti meatball and lamb shank with risotto. Sauce was delicious. Pasta however was not fresh made. And the risotto was a bit hard in some pieces. Lamb was slowed cooked to perfection. Portion was average. Dessert was delicious and they made the tiramisu cheesecake in house! It was a bold and great combination. The lemon sobert was imported but very creatively served in a frozen lemon! Overall it was a great experience and a great little gem in the neighborhood!
Short ribs
Celebrated girlfriend s birthday here, the atmosphere, service, Food, everything are just perfect here. They even gave house dessert for our celebration.
Had the mussels to start and the seafood risotto and ravioli with rose sauce for entrees. All dishes were good but I was expecting it to be better based on the high reviews.
We went for dinner tonight here and my only regret is I wish we would ve gone earlier as we live in the neighborhood Everything was just outstanding. The food here is just delicious and homemade We cannot wait to come back! The quality of the food, the portion sizes, and the price honestly are outstanding They even make their own homemade focaccia bread for the table that we couldn t stop eating lol Our server, Lucas(Thank you!) was very good and extremely friendly Just made for a perfect night. Thank you very much to all the portobello staff. We will be back over and over again!
Spoil yourself and your special partner. atmosphere, Delicious food, great service, reasonably priced for an exceptional experience. Chef Pino and Hostess Rosa and their exceptional servers will make your experience memorable. Food
Great food, very authentic Italian dining experience. Our server was very friendly and checked in frequently.
Great dinner experience and best pasta in Vancouver.
We came to celebrate a birthday and was met with great service and fantastic food.
I was expecting more based on the positive reviews. I was a little disappointed by the quality of the food. Service was okay
First time trying the Portobello and we found it okay. The ambiance is nice, the decor is inviting. I found the menu to be more minimalist than say a wide selection of classic Italian dishes. We did the Dine-Out menu based on the value and the food was decent enough for the price. The service was okay -- not rushed but comfortable. For me the bottom line was there was no WOW - factor or anything that would blow one away, either with the food or the service. I am hesitant to comment on the pricing as it is tough these days as prices are soaring in restaurants which is understandable given the current economy. And Portobello is not inexpensive by any means. Now we did not try any of the higher priced menu items (ie: Ossobuco at $54) did I feel the value of the Dine Out menu was on point at $59 for a 3 course meal? Sure in comparison to the single item Ossobuco at $54. However for what we had - I could be swayed either way. I probably will not go again as at these prices I just expect more.
This was our first visit and it was an early Valentines Day dinner. My wife had the Linguine alla Vongole and I chose the Spaghetti alla Carbonara. Both were spot on.
I had a wonderful dinner here recently. Its a small but lovely little restaurant with great ambiance. Our server was very attentive and the food was delicious. Its hard to find good elevated dining thats outside of the downtown/westside core but I really appreciated this little gem. We had the burrata and prawns to start, I had the gnocchi as a main and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was done to perfection. I find gnocchi can be a real hit or miss but this place certainly got my stamp of approval. Thank you for a memorable dining experience!
Convenient location, lovely fresh flowers, fabulous service. Great desserts, mains & salads were fine. $$$ wine. Recommended dishes Seafood Risotto
I have no idea why there are so many rave reviews for this joint. My experience was VERY underwhelming. The appetizers for 2 were expensive, and VERY small. One of my companions had the caeser. The lettuce was wilted and actually browning in some spots. I had the penne with sausage. The sauce was watery, and overly acidic, with no depth to it at all, and the sausage had the weirdest after taste. Highly over rated, and mediocre. I have had better pasta in cafeterias.
Brought Italuan tourist Chefs, and they loved the seafoid rissoto and every other dish ordered.
Excellent food and service.
Wonderful place with super attentive staff! Will be back again for sure.
The food is great! We always look forward to having food from here.
The quality of food, service, and ambience are simply outstanding and the prices are reasonable. This mom and pop restaurant belongs in the four star category. We have been enjoying it for over 15 years and have never been anything but delighted. Try it soon, so that you can enjoy it again sooner!
Excellent service and food was delicious!
Looking for a local place for a nice dinner I saw a 3 course dinner promotion that looked good. It was an exceptional meal at a great price. Staff was very attentive and it was a fantastic experience. Will definately be back soon.
Amazing family run business. Exceptional food and service. Our server David was on it and very helpful throughout the evening. Highly recommend for a romantic meal, birthday or great night out.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience last night. The staff were exceptional, friendly and attentive. The meal was absolutely delicious and a wonderful atmosphere. A fantastic restaurant for any occasion, highly recommend.
Had a wonderful date night here! Staff was so friendly and kind, the chef clearly knows how to satisfy, atmosphere was quaint and romantic! Highly recommended!
We had the kind of evening we usually only experience when we travel, yet this restaurant is close to our home. It was just a fun night. Our waiter was friendly and attentive (but didnt lurk). I dont like Citrus flavored desert but the lemon pudding was yuummee! At the end of the night we met other staff and they were all proud of where they work...and we met the chef...a humble man. The night was not perfect thought...my vegetables werent hot. They fixed that right away and it did not diminish our enjoyment i. The least. We will definitely be back....
Portobello has always been a favorite restaurant for us and weve visited their West Broadway locations many times over the years. Recently, they moved onto the old Pear Tree location on Hastings in Burnaby Heights. They start you off with some really great complimentary crusty warm bread. And then we moved onto the garlicky Caesar salad and juicy mussels. For my main, I picked the braised prime rib short ribs. Super fork-tender. The Petti di pollo con carciofini (thin slices of chicken breast, sautéed with butter, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, white wine sauce) was good too. Service is attentive and friendly. Make sure to get the tiramisu for dessert. Update: We came by again in late July and service was a bit off. One of the servers seemed to ignore us for most of the meal, even after one of the other server kept reminding him to help us. Not sure if it was someone new or just a one off.
Absolutely loved this place service, food was perfect . The pear tart was to die for. Gnocchi was excellent and the burrard salad was perfect.
The food was so good. We had as starters 1. Gamberi alla diavola 2. Calamari Pizzaola 3. Insalata Caesar Main Course we had 1. Risotto Di Mare 2. Linguine Alle Vongole 3. Picatta Al Limone The risotto was cooked to perfection The linguine sauce was so good. The veal melted in my mouth. This place is perfect for a date as its so cozy. Great place
A last-minute search for a restaurant serving pasta until 10 yielded this absolute gem. One of the best Italian Restaurants Ive had the pleasure of dining in. The food is world class and the atmosphere is elegant, relaxing and welcoming. The highlight was definitely the evenings special dessert; Coronation Grape Cake. Food : 5/5
Go for the food and stay for the desert!!! Everything was absolutely fantastic! Try their portobello drink with your desert after dinner sooooo good. Im definitely going back.
I was walking by weeks before having dined at another establishment not realizing that they reopened in Burnaby. Having been to the old vancouver location many times I decided to make a reservation. The food we had was excellent. Ossobucco, Linguine Vongole, Cioppino, Risotto, Calamari, Burrata was all executed to perfection. Pasta perfectly al dente, sauces were perfectly seasoned, nothing was over cooked. My only slight issue was the service was a bit slow (1st day for waiter), although friendly you can tell hes a bit nervous. Im sure it was a bit overwhelming for him since the restaurant was full. Nonetheless the experience was excellent and we will be back!
This is genuinely the best dining experience I have had. The staff are lovely and the food is just Beyond. I had the melon with prosciutto, ceasar salad, veal with mushrooms, and molten chocolate cake. I had such a great experience, ate exquisite dish after incredible dish, and Ill be returning anytime I am in the neighbourhood.
5 stats across the board! Everything about Portobello was exceptional. From the moment we walked in the door we had a great experience. The people were so lovely and the service was great and the FOOD ... amazing. Cannot wait to go back! Make a reservation!
Everything was great across the board. Will definitely be going back again.
I had an amazing dinner with great service! Highly recommend this fine restaurant.
Food and service not worth the price! I was definitely expecting way more. Do not recommend, you can get better food and service for a better price somewhere else!
Server was so kind and polite. The food was sooo delicious!
The owner Rosa was so lovely right from the time you walk in and are greeted to the time you leave ..the service is incredible Dave and Andrew gave menu suggestions ..the food was so delicious. Everything is made from scratch it s a must place to visit for amazing Italian cuisine.
The staff are so welcoming, they make you feel like part of the family. The food has been excellent every time we have gone. It is made fresh and you can tell. This is the only place that my husband actually finishes everything!
Convinient location, amazing food
Great service and delicious food. We had multiple pastas, appetizers, and desserts. Every dish was amazing
We had a last minute change of plans for Christmas Eve and Portobello was able to accommodate us. They did not disappoint. Service was very good and the food excellent. Lucky to have a gem in the neighbourhood. We will return for sure!
Cozy n good food
Weve only tried this place a few times so far but so far the are consistent and consistently excellent. On the pricier side but I never feel disappointed. Although the last time we were there the team or of two of the desserts. Mind you we were perry much the last customers of the day. Good chance of that happening. Still not disappointed, the remaining options were also very good.
Service was stellar on my recent dinner experience; the waiter seemed to be anticipatory of everything from refilling water, bread, timing of the entrees arrival following appetizers. He checked without hovering and was consistent through the evening. The food was prepared with exceptional care; the entrees of Costolette di Manzo (slow roasted beef rib) and Vitello alla Pizzaiola (veal) were delicious. Very home-made and not over seasoned where you could appreciate the ingredients. Even little things like the steamed vegetables (french beans, roasted pepper, and brussels) were distinct in their flavour. Dessert was an almond creme brulee not only well made but also a generous portion compared to other restaurants offering the same. Even the bread is made freshly right in the restaurant. The owner came out a couple of times to check if we were satisfied and you can tell the pride in their menu. I would not hesitate to come back in the future for a similar dining experience.
They ve been serving us delicious meals for many years and last night was excellent as always. And you must try Rosa s homemade desserts. Authentic Italian.
I picked this restaurant for a celebration. Before I booked, I looked at their online menu, which to my surprise, is NOT the menu they have at the restaurant. In addition, if youre a vegetarian, you only have ONE option. And if youre allergic to the dish, well then too bad. Being a vegetarian and having only one option, I asked if they would be able to accommodate me as their online menu had several vegetarian options. This request was declined. Our server was very nice but due to the lack of options and the inconsistency with the menus, we ended up leaving and spent out money at another restaurant where they appreciated us as customers/business. I would not recommend this restaurant if youre a vegetarian.
I think Ive found my people! Haha, but seriously I love this place and their people. Took my Mom for dinner here tonight, and as we walked in the door another couple of customers said you are going to have a happy belly. We were greeted by a friendly woman (one of the owners?) and shown to a cozy corner table. Walking through the dining area, other diners looked to be enjoying themselves, lots of smiles and visiting happening. We had plexiglass between the tables which was comforting. We ended up ordering two kinds of white wine, both imports from Italy and described to us by our friendly server (nice Aussie young man). For dinner we had the spaghetti di mare and the braised shortribs. Amazing! Bursting with flavor, piping hot, and generous portions. The seafood in the pasta was fresh and delicate, the shortrib tender and slow cooked. We ended with the homemade lemon ricotta cheesecake (wow) that had berry coulis, fresh berry, and an slight almond flavored whipped cream for garnish. Also ordered the lemon sorbetto served in a lemon shell. So refreshing and beautiful to look at. Even the coffee was stellar. The owner came over several times to see if we were happy, which we really appreciated. We also appreciated the white linen tablecloths, heavy cutlery, and pretty wine glasses and dishes, it really does add to the experience. Oh and the homemade bread with oil ...yummm. When we left the owners, chef and servers all wished us a good night, waved from the kitchen and thanked us for coming. I cannot wait to go back and already planning my next visit.
It was great to be back at Portobello restaurant for the first time since their move from West Broadway. Their new Hastings Street location in Burnaby is comfortable and chic, and the food, as always, is wonderful. My husband had the seafood pasta and I had the braised short ribs. Both were excellent. We both started with the very flavourful roasted red pepper and tomato soup, a perfect blending of those classic flavors. The service was excellent. We were happy to see that our favourite waiter, Randy, is back. We very much enjoyed our evening at Portobello. Highly recommend it.
We were lucky to be here during the Bite of Burnaby promotion, so were able to try three courses at a special price. Everything we ate was delicious. Burrata salad was tasty with the perfect texture. Short ribs were all that youd hope for - tender and delish. Spaghetti di Mare was perfection, pretty much the best pasta/seafood Ive had. Finished off with a yummy molten chocolate cake, rich and not too sweet.
Best meal in along time. The Osso Buco Fabulous. Service and staff were wonderful
Amazing food and service. My new favourite restaurant! Super fresh and high quality ingredients. Would 100% come back!
The food was amazing... from the appetizer to the dessert. Our service was fantastic too. Cant wait to go back.
If you want to get got...come here! $10 quality pasta dishes priced at $30
My husband and I have been searching for a good Italian restaurant for a long time. We were so delighted with our find. Portobello Restaurant with a modern decor and soft Italian music played in the background created a lovely atmosphere. The waiter was very skilful. He was wonderfully attentive. We wanted for nothing. I ordered Cotoletta di Vitelllo parmigiana. What a delightful surprise - it was perfect and the way I remember. I ate every last morsel. My husband had the Risotto Di Mare; he said it was delicious. Our meal was paired with a lovely Bottle of Wine from a well chosen wine list. We ordered the Tiramisu for desert and was told by our waiter that all the deserts were made by Rosa who greeted us when we arrived. Of course to no surprise it was delicious. The waiter served a complimentary aperitif and Rosa brought a pastry/cookie to go with it. The meal felt like a special experience and we left wanting to come back for more.
Nice space. Great wine list. And unfortunately that s where it ends. The calamari was rubbery and fishy. Pasta lacks flavour and nothing has any salt. Good good for a care home menu. Wouldn t go back.
Instead of waiting in line for Anton s come to Portobello s. Such a great experience, food was amazing, service was top notch and there was a steady stream of regulars coming in so this place must be good. A fantastic Italian restaurant in Burnaby heights.
Our family dinners are always delicious! Amazing atmosphere and friendly staff, wonderful experience every time. Thank you to all of the staff for the fast service with a smile. You all are awesome!
Service is decent, ambience is decent but food was absolutely one of the worst I ve tried in Vancouver and Burnaby. My partner took a bite and was tempted to just send it back and leave but it was a special occasion so we just let it sit on our table. It s a shame Pear Tree is no longer here. I would love to support local but can t support this one.
Amazing food, you can tell all the ingredients are fresh, the service is great as well, and don t miss the amazing deserts made by Rosa.
First time coming to this Italian restaurant and we were blown away by their hospitality. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the kind woman at the front desk. We had a reservation forn2 and she asked us if we wanted to sit outside or inside. There really was no outside. Theyre all indoor seatings but the outside ones are right to the side after tithe entrance and therefore its a much brighter surroundings. The inside a lot more darker and moodier, which was what we picked cuz it was our date night. We started with the burrata as appetizer and it was perfect! The burrata was soft, rich, and creamy. You can tell they use high quality olive oil and Balsamic. We used some of the warm, crusty bread they served on the side to mop up some of the leftover juice from the burrata. I ordered Linquini ala Vongole for me and it was to die for. Perfectly seasoned, good amount of clams, al dente pasta, and buttery white wine sauce. My fiancé ordered the gnocchi made it was a bit of a let down. Theyre definitely made in house, but theyre too soft for our liking and we thought that the rosè sauce is a little bland and could use a bit more salt. Everything else was impeccable though. Service was at fine-dining level. Our waiter was so polite and attentive, without being overly over the top. He kept checking on us at just the right time, even placed our sparkling water in a cooler, too. The venue is so clean, quiet, comfortable, and romantic. Will definitely come back again to try their other menu and dessert. Highly recommend if you want something more than ordinary Italian restaurant.
Just enjoyed our first dinner at Portobello last night, which will definitely be followed by many more! The hospitality was warm and welcoming, the atmosphere was equally inviting, the food was obviously prepared with love, and the service was top-notch. It wasn t the standard how are the first few bites spiel; our waiter was totally paying attention to our pace, our selections, and ensuring we had a great experience. We were also pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the pricing was for both the food (generously portioned) and the wine (great range band selection). We ll definitely be back!
Everything was delicious and the service was impeccable.
Excellent antipasto and chicken parmigiano. The meat sauce is definitely Italian. Pleasant ambience for conversation with Port and dessert.
Delicious meal shared with our good friends! Service was attentive and pleasant by an experienced server who was knowledgeable about the menu and how the food was prepared. Servings are generous and well presented to share, which we did. Quality of the food is comparable to downtown Vancouver, without the drive and parking hassles. Definitely will return.
I actually would give portobello 2 1/2 stars. First time visit and we found the food underwhelming. Spaghetti mare was tough to finish, halibut was so dry, the scallops like erasures , the prawns were nice but this was not a prawn dish. The lemon veal was rather bland and tasted like flour. It would have been really nice if our server had mentioned they had dinner specials as we did ask him about the menu about three times!!
Excellent authentic tasty Italian cooking with varieties to suit your fancy for the evening. The three appetizers we picked are all very good. I love my pasta with spicy sausages and others love their veal cutlets. How can I leave without the superb pana cotta??!!
My boyfriend and I had a fabulous experience dining at Portobello Restaurant this weekend. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted and seated by a nice woman at the front. We were then given our menus and told the daily specials by our wonderful server Randy. He was very kind, helpful and attentive throughout the evening. We ordered the Italian Burrata for our appetizer along with limoncello martinis. The Burrata was light and flavourful and the martinis were fantastic! We were also given hot, fresh buns with balsamic and olive oil for dipping. For our main course, we chose the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Ossobuco Classico. The carbonara was fresh, savoury, and delicious. The veal and risotto were amazingly prepared. The meat was so tender it came off the bone with just a fork and the risotto was creamy and nicely seasoned. I would absolutely recommend Portobello to anyone who enjoys an intimate restaurant with a refined menu of wonderfully prepared meals. Our compliments to the chef and staff for making it such an enjoyable evening!
Excellent. Would highly recommend.
The service by Randy was excellent!!!!
Best Italian in Vancouver.
Amazing food! They just opened in Burnaby. A small and elegant restaurant! Please give this awesome place a try. The Italian food here is exquisite!
The location has changed, but the food is still to die for!!! We have been enjoying Pino s cooking for over two decades, we can t say enough how much we love his simple homemade Italian cooking. Every time we miss going to Sicily like this year due to covid, eating Pino s food remind us a slice of Italy! The Caesar salad is a must have. Like I told my husband, I could eat the Caesar salad everyday. His home made Caesar dressing is out of this world. Also, we love Rosa s new twist on the homemade tiramisu. We are so glad that you have opened again as we were sad when we realized that you had closed and relocated from Vancouver to Burnaby. The 30-minute drive from Vancouver is well worth it. We will definitely be back again.... Stay safe Rosa. We would love to give you a hug when we saw you last night to congratulate the new location. The decor is simple and elegant just like Pino s cooking. Bravo!
Pretty ordinary experience. The service was okay and the food was okay too but certainly nothing to rave about. We expected so much more. I think some thing got lost when the restaurant moved to Burnaby. Hope they pick once they settle in.
Having never been to their original location I cant say if its better now, but its great! Started with a charcuterie share plate, followed with a wonderful chicken in a light sauce dish, and a veal parmesan 2nd to none. A little slow from the kitchen, but hey, theyve only been open here, for a week. Service was great.
Newly opened Italian restaurant in Burnaby Heights. Its so nice to have this addition to the neighborhood! Its Italian comfort food created by the chef and owner (and pastries/desserts from his wife). Our servers were very friendly and welcoming and offered the special entree of the night. We shared the Argentine prawns appetizer. Prawns were juicy and so flavorful in the white wine garlic sauce. For the mains, we ordered the Linguine Alle Vongole & special (Lamb Chops in a red wine reduction sauce). Both dishes were amazing! The lamb chops cooked medium rare - be sure to smother lots of sauce with each bite!) Loved the Linguine Alle Vongole. Lots of clams and the noodles cooked al dente with so much flavour. Im a fan of garlic! Must also try the Tiramisu for dessert. It is homemade (even the lady fingers are homemade!) Definitely try this restaurant out if youre in the area!
Excellent real Italian food in Burnaby heights, classic white table cloth Italian with great service and very well priced. The wine list is excellent and at least 15 bottles under 80$ which is unheard of for this level of food! The burrata was amazing and the Marsala and fresh pasta to die for. Support this local restaurant!!
We enjoyed our dinner here last night. It was our first experience at Portobello. The food was excellent. The portion sizes were perfect. Not too much food, just the right amount. I had the linguini Vongole and it was delicious! Definitely recommend. The bread before dinner was very tasty. Good wine menu. Excellent attentive service. We ll be back for sure.
Great service, great ambience, great food.
Here is my constructive review. Food: 4/5 pretty good. Service: 1/5 very bad. Server is not very welcoming. Seems busy and occupied all the time. Sorta cut me off when I tried to ask question. Lastly, it took exactly 1 hour for the food to come out. 3 pasta. We almost left before. Value: 3/5 price is higher than average, portion is slightly below. This might be your place if Waiting is your thing. Otherwise, I would not recommend.
Enjoyed the food overall. Shrimp appy was really good and enjoyed the pasta. Veal parm was good but the potatoes and veg were very pedestrian.
Absolutely the BEST Italian restaurant in town. My go to place for authentic italian food.
Excellent service, generous plates and food is divine! Intimate fine dining with a lovely ambience. We shared a starter, a pasta and mains. Next time we will order less but for the first dining experience we didnt know if it would be pretty food. It is both beautifully presented and substantial. We will definitely return.
Great service with amazing food. One of the best Italian food. I definitely Will come back again.
Every dish we had was so tasty, fresh, delicious and the ambience, service, prices, wine list & decor were spot on! Cant say enough...So very happy to have a new 5 star restauarant in N Burnaby and well be going back very soon. .
Excellent food and service. Will return!
Went here for date night, the buratta and prawn appetizers were not bad. I ordered the pasta bolognese and it was terrible. My partner had the osso bucco, it was ok. Drinks were over priced! We could have dined downtown for the price! It s to bad since it s walking distance.
Enjoyed a romantic dinner at Portobello. Amazing Italian food, great service. Bruno (our waiter) was very accommodating. Definitely recommended.
If you want an absolutely delicious dinner you must go visit Portobellos.Their new location is beautiful, warm ,cozy and inviting. And great parking all around too. The service and staff are fantasic and the owners are just so lovely. If you havent been yet, treat yourself you will be glad you did.
Welcome to Burnaby! Italian food at its best.
Beautiful family owned restaurant, good service and great food! Awesome wine list as well!!
Awesome restaurant. Excellent service and delicious food.
Myself and 3 others came here to try this new restaurant. The intimate ambiance and décor was lovely. We ordered the fungo portobello gratinato and italian burrata as our appetizers - we all agreed it was so tasty. For our main meal, we ordered risotto and gnocchi - which was even better than anticipated. There was just enough flavour but not too much where it ruined the dish. The service was above and beyond as our server checked in on us and refilled our water often. We learned that their desserts were hand made so we had to give that a try -- the crème brûlée was SO delicious. The restrooms were clean along with hand sanitizing stations. What we would have preferred was our bill to be split however they were unable to do that. This restaurant definitely exceed our expectations and would come here again!
Hidden Gem in Burnaby. Authentic Italian Food. I believe the owner is the chef and the wife makes the desserts. My wife and I went there on a Sunday night and it was actually pretty busy by the time we left. We had the Burrata, Mussels to start and Spaghetti Di Mare and Ossobucco for entrees. Tiramisu is homemade even the lady fingers. Everything was delicious and mouth watering. Our server Lubos provided us with excellent service. Very attentive and ensured that our wine glass was consistently filled. :) Go try it out, you wont be disappointed.
We had a fantastic time there and our server Lubos was very professional, gave us excellent recommendations on food and wine. Thank you, highly recommended!
I had an extremely pleasant experience here for dinner. Its a small but cozy spot, despite it being a bit too warm inside for my liking, it was a nice place to relax and chat. All of the staff that we interacted with were very nice and happy to have us there. We had the braised ribs and the seafood risotto and both were delicious. Creme Brulee for dessert was very nice as well, some of the best Ive had. Highly recommend this place if youre looking for a great date spot or just a nice dinner in general.
A wonderful restaurant with excellent food, service and ambience. The food is fresh, with generous portions and authentic. You will not be disappointed!
Food is ok, too pricy for the quality.
My husband and I went here for the first time over the weekend and had the most wonderful time. The restaurant is a cozy bistro style, very beautifully decorated with a warm atmosphere. The servers were so welcoming and took their time with each table, we never felt rushed at all. Most importantly was the food was AMAZING!! Everything from the starter bread to the desert came out hot and fresh. Well be back soon for sure!
Amazing food and atmosphere. Will definitely come back.
Very good food. Good service. Nice ambiance.
This small Italian eatery serves a variety of entrees and pastas. The seafood risotto has generous chunks of fresh seafood and the ravioli pasta is homemade. The ambience is homey and a touch romantic (for Valentines).
Not a bad place to celebrate any occasion.
Decent price. You only need a half portion, size is big. Nice place but they leave you waiting at front with lots of free tables all around resteraunt. Good service lots of parking.
Just had tiramisu. Moist and perfect!
Both my meal and my partners were pretty bland. Not that they tasted bad, exactly - they were just the standard Westernized versions of Italian dishes. For the price, I would normally expect far more refined cooking.
Definitely the best Italian joint in Vancouver!
Food was okay. Tables were too close together. Service was fine but nothing special. Also we were expecting to get 15% off with tickets to the stanley theater since theyre a partner but they told us at the end that they dont offer the discount on occasions. This would have been fine but they told us at the end.
Felt like a restaurant in Italy. Decent meal.
No a good value for the money.
Pasta with plenty of mussels
Honestly it was pretty good. Attentive service; good Italian food. Pasta not homemade (except ravioli and gnocchi), but tasty sauces. Burrata was very creamy. Unfortunately a bit soulless though right on Broadway, with door open on a summer s evening.
Amazing food, great wine selection, knowledgeable staff, lemon sorbet is to die for! Limited hours, suggest making a reso.
Great food, nice quiet atmosphere. All 5 of us really enjoyed dinner. Will definitely return!
Ordered to go and it was great!
Great food
Great food and service.
The food here is very delicious with the reasonable price. Ill say Portobello ristorante is a small and cozy family-friendly restaurant which close to downtown. Its a nice place to bring a date . ( kinda romantic )
Best Italian place Ive ever been at
Great food Great ambiance real Italian preparation.. What more could one ask for without actually going to Italy...
Great food, brilliant wait staff, and lovely owners, if you want a lovely evening out, highly recommended.
Food was average. It lacked any interest. Although I would say that it was homely...that is to say that most home cook could make it. As I said...average. Service was hilariously slow. Servers were friendly enough however. All in all, for the food quality and cost....Id rather cook at home.
Great food and wine. Service was impeccable and the prices arent too expensive.
Good food large portions great service
The food was very good! Tiramisu was so creamy and had the perfect amount of rum! We had smoked salmon fettucini and agnolotti ricotta cardinale. The bread was deliciously warm! The portions are a bit smaller and the prices are a bit higher than other Italian restaurants weve been to.
Love this intimate place. Excellent food. Excellent service. You need a to book ahead as its a popular restaurant with limited seating.
The food was excellent. Pasta was cooked very well (as youd imagine from an Italian restaurant). Atmosphere was very relaxing, and staff were nice.
Great food great service
Love this restaurant - great family run ambiance. Highly recommend the prawns and carbonnara.
I had made reservations online and happened that the information was wrong in the reservation service. We had to wait about :30 minutes before they were open for the public. Thank God we decided to wait, because the food is out of this world and service outstanding. I love this little gem in the middle of Coral Gables. Yes! I recommend this restaurant to all my friends.
This place has great pasta, but I absolutely love their desserts. They are made in house and I always save room for them.
Always amazing, food, service is the best in town!
Great food! Appetizers yummy, especially the meatballs. Fav dish is the agnalotti with a rosé sauce. Terrific service except their cash system wont let them split the bill like many restaurants. We forgot to ask for separate cheques when we ordered, so maybe they can do that from the get go, but not if its put in together at the beginning of the process. .
We got excellent service but the food was average
I went here with my wife for dinner, we had the namesake Fungo Portobello Gratinato for appetizer, and Ossobuco Classico and Spaghetti Con Gamberi as the main dishes. The Fungo Portobello Gratinato (Stuffed mushrooms) was very good, in fact, Ill attempt to make those at home. The Ossobuco Classico (braised veal shank) while good, would have deserved a more pedestrian name like Beef Stew. The fancy name and description on the menu made me expect a little more, but in the end was your standard beef stew. Things go a little downhill from here on the Spaghetti Con Gamberi (Spaghetti with prawns and halibut). The description on the menu included vodka garlic (very intriguing) and light spicy tomato sauce (this is ambiguous; is it a light tomato sauce thats spicy or is it a slighty spicy tomato sauce?). Turns out that it is only a light tomato sauce, no hint of spiciness at all, and also no hint of this vodka garlic. I even made sure I cleansed my palate by rinsing my mouth with water. It was very underwhelming, something I would expect to be served at a cafeteria. At 75 dollars before tip for one appetizer and two mains (no drinks or desserts), this restaurant was disappointing. What I did notice was that every other table in the restaurant was drinking wine. There was even a sign on the wall that read: A meal without wine is like a day without sunshine. I realize that pairing food with the right wine can make the dining experience more enjoyable, but I also believe that the dish should be able to stand on its own and not rely on a wine pairing. Otherwise, the atmosphere was good and the servers were prompt and friendly.
We had our Christmas Dinner here and everything was absolutely amazing. The owners are really nice and value you as a customer. Food is amazing as well. a must try!!
Best buillobase lots of fresh seafood, tasty but not too salty. Service was fantastic even on busy night.
Outstanding food and service. The chocolate pudding cake was one of the best Ive ever had.
Always amazing food and warm service. The best part is staying late for a word with the owners who love to talk and entertain.
Wonderful atmospher, warm charming family restaurant . Good italian food at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend it. I have been patronizing the place for many years, consistently good.
We decided to try this restaurant and we were very happy with our decision. The place is fairly quiet, even on the friday that we went, and its very well kept which made for a good first impression. Our server, Martin, was exceptionally friendly and did an excellent job throughout the night. All our meals came out in a reasonable amount of time and were a perfect temperature. The portobello appetizer that we had was delicious. The penne and sausage dish which had just the right kick to it, while the pesto linguine was excellent as well. I would definitely go back there, and I have already recommended to friends and family that if they are ever out in Vancouver, that Portobello is a pretty good meal. The price is perfect as they are quite reasonable and the meals are excellent.
What a great experience, they are very friendly and professional. They gave me suggestions on what to eat and the food was great.
Great food and great service! The staff was really friendly.
Great food; great service. Made my birthday dinner there special.
Food was good, atmosphere was nice, staff were friendly. Giving this place 1 star because they screwed up our meal and handled it very poorly. We were brought the wrong food, we agreed to eat it out of convenience, waiter thanks us and says Ill take care of it multiple times. We finish and say were not interested in dessert, but the waiter brings us a tiny lemon meringue tartlets anyway and insists we eat it. Bill comes and were charged full price for everything. I ask the waiter what he meant by hell take care of it and he said Oh I meant like a dessert or something even though we told him many times we did not want a dessert. I pay the bill (by VISA) and the second I hand the machine back to him he says I spoke with my manager, well comp your meal. Oh you finished paying already? Come back next time and well do something special for you. We will not be taking them up on that offer.
great place, we go here frequently!
First time coming to this restaurant, it was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday evening. As a tomato sauce lover, I ordered the pasta with spicy Italian sausage. The tomato sauce was arguably the BEST Ive ever had. I could tell it was made from quality Roma tomatoes. Perfectly seasoned and mixed into the pasta. Highly Recommended! Pasta dishes are quite reasonably priced ($14 - $17)
Its interesting to see some negative reviews of this restaurant, but perhaps those reviewers are missing the whole point of this joint. If you understand quality of cooking, the quality of ingredients, and the joy that comes from the simplicity of food, this is a fantastic Italian place. The sauces on the meat or pasta are not fake - they have the mellow taste of a home-brewed sauce, without being overpowered by salt, sugar or cream. The meat & vegetables used are fresh. The kitchen is wide open for the viewing pleasure of the patrons, giving you the confidence of clean & honest food. No, this isnt meant to be mimicking a pretentious 5-star french restaurant - its supposed to feed you with good food that makes you feel good, and thats just what the chef delivers. As a tough critic of food, an avid home-chef, an advocate for fresh local food consumption, and a food fanatic, I give this restaurant a thumbs-up. Recommended dishes - any of the veal scallopini dishes are great, as is the breaded chicken dish. I will be ordering the seafood risotto next time I visit.
