Sushi Modo in Burnaby

Careful with their website. I ordered online and it was sent to their Burnaby location not their Port Moody location. When I called to cancel, they wouldn t refund the transaction.

This is my goto place. Server Cassie is always amazing. She is super sweet. Foods were soooo good!

I got take out and the quality exceeded our expectation and the price is affordable too! Would definitely order again!

Fantastic service, food was perfect Reasonably priced! Shared an appetizer tempura & a large hot sake to drink. My lady friend had a seaweed salad & devil roll. I ordered salmon & avocado roll & beef terriyaki roll. Bonus points* Really liked the variety of different veggies in the tempura, broccoli, green bean, butternut squash, yam (not just the common generic things every other restaurant seems to use the same- sweet potato, mushroom, etc ) compliments to the chef, kitchen staff and servers. Fantastic @ delivering customer satisfaction ~Highly recommend, will be returning in the future.

This has to be one of the top sushi places in Burnaby. It has a great little atmosphere inside. The food and the presentation was excellent. The food was fes, rich and full of flavour. Grace went above and beyond to make the eating experience enjoyable. Lots of GF options. It is a little on the pricey side but you pay for great quality food.update even their take out is great. No gluten free wasabi.

I have been to sushi at a lot of places and this one takes the cake. Our family came here for a quick dinner and this is now our new favorite place to go. Highly recommend their Salmon Oshi Aburi!

My family s breakdown for here was 3/5 for food, 4/5 service and 4/5 atmosphere. We were mostly disappointed with the sizing and pricing for a lot of the dishes. we had done takeout and ordered the following: Salmon teriyaki - basically paying for cabbage and the sauce was overpowering. Portion size was ok came with miso soup Teridon - wasn t bad and decent amount Mentaiko creamy udon - good flavour but small portion Appetizer tempura - decent but kind of gross eating broccoli tempura just as an overall vegetable choice Black cod - $15 for two teeny tiny morsels and was overcooked. Again just filled with cabbage Service was great and had no qualms with the waitresses. The sushi looked amazing though for the dine in guests so I would try that next time!

Edited review, June 17, 2024: Wife would get yakisoba takeout maybe once a month, but today it was much worse than before. The sauce is worse, and it tastes overly salted (to make up for much worse sauce?). The gyoza also went up to $9 from previously being $6-7ish. Cant speak for other dishes, but unfortunately we are done here, it seems price to quality ratio has become unfeasible for us. Previous review years ago: Really good, have visited many times the past few years.

We ordered the volcano roll, chicken karage ramen and the Alaska roll. The sauces in the volcano roll was very tasty as well as the sauce in the salad. The atmosphere was also very comfortable.

I love that the gomae comes as a roll. The spicy agadashi Tofu could be spicier, but the Tofu itself was bouncy and fun to eat like mochi if youre a texture person. The flavours for the garlic and jalapeño on the oushi were very intense. Black cod was delicate and tasty and tempura fantastic.

My family and I absolutely love this sushi restaurant and we would order from here every week for pick up. The rolls are decently sized and well priced. Their sushi/sashimi was always fresh and the pieces are generous. The people who work there are wonderful and always got our orders right. I ve only eaten inside the restaurant once but it was a really nice experience. Best sushi around and highly recommend it!! Unfortunately, we have moved to another city so it s now too far for us to do pickup and we are sad to have to find a new sushi place.

This is one of my favourite spots for dining and take out in the neighborhood. Family and kid friendly spot. Their oshi aburi sushi is some of the best in Vancouver. I also really love the salmon karage salad and mantaiko cream udon.

Sushi Modo is a legendary neighbourhood restaurant in the Edmonds area. If youre new to the area, make it your regular spot. If youre a tourist to Vancouver, make a stop here. My wife and I have been coming here for six years, and it has been amazing every time, especially the sushi oshi, which it is famous for. The sashimi and nigiri are fantastic too. Even basic rolls like dynamite rolls are better here than elsewhere. The staff are wonderful and friendly as well, and the atmosphere is calm and soothing. We often come here after coming home from travelling because Sushi Modo feels like home.

Sushi Modo is definitely a gem. I ve been coming here for years and food has always been consistently good. Their oshi sushi are my favorite and I ve been ordering them via Ubereats almost every week. When I m dining in, I always get their nabeyaki udon. It s not often that I get a traditional flame heated pot (most nabeyaki udons at other Japanese restaurants don t have this). The atmosphere is nice and servers are very friendly. Place is very clean too and kid-friendly. I love this place!

Been to quite a few sushi places and I rarely leave reviews. This is probably in my favorite place to go to. The food is so good here, especially the ramen which was unexpected for a sushi place. On top of that the atmosphere is great and customer service. Highly recommend for a low key sushi spot. Theres adequate street parking past the restaurant near the boat shop. Great experience in Sushi Moto, we tried the Oshi sushi platter and Gyozas and Awesome roll (pic) everything was great. The place is a bit small so you will probably need to wait for a table, but definitely worth it.

I ordered one chicken katsu and one kappa roll. The kappa roll was disappointing. It looked like somebody just tossed it in the container or dropped this packaged item. This doesnt look very appetizing.

Ordered mentaiko cream udon through Uber Eats and was disappointed with how the comically small portion barely filled half the takeout container. I went to Sushi Modo for dinner on a Friday night. Place was full but we were immediately seated and greeted by a friendly server. Food was flavorful and fresh, except for the Wasabi Mayo Prawn that did not have mayo at all, it was only wasabi and a hint of honey. Inspite of the absence of mayo on the Wasabi Mayo Prawn, everything was good. Did not disappoint at all. Service was good! It was polite, attentive, and friendly. Which was expected since it s a Japanese restaurant. Will definitely dine here again.

We ordered the chicken udon, seafood udon and beef bento, the portion of the udon is a bit disappointed, firstly is the salty soup base, secondly its not much meat / seafood (3 pcs shrimp + 2 tiny pieces of squit and 1 mussel in the seafood udon ). The bento size is good but its too much tekuyaki sauce on the beef made it too salty, the roll in the bento can taste the fridge taste , I came here because of the general review is high but its surprise the food here is really so so for us. If you dont like too salty or small portion this is not a place you come. Services is okay and environment is clean.

I don t care what anybody says this is the best sushi I ve tried in Burnaby so far. Or possibly the best sushi ever. I ordered the salmon oshi, spicy yam tempura and dynamite roll. The crunch in that tempura was delicious and I devoured my whole meal in 5 minutes. It was so good I had to post a review and I never write reviews. THANK YOU!

Heard about this place from the bestie. This place is amazing! Had salmon oishi and the tenderloin oishi and they were so good, didn t have time to take pics lol. Normally I love this restaurant. Just FYI when they close at 9pm, last call is 8:40 and I was told you must leave by 9:00 finished or not Just a bit surprised but I guess that s the rules.

Great place for sushi in the Edmonds area of Burnaby! Take out and dine in are both options for ordering. I especially recommend their spicy soy chicken karate don; it s to die for! Parking: Parking is behind the building but you have to actually make your way to 19th Ave and find an alley way to access it. Street parking is somewhat limited, though you could park at the neighbouring mechanic once they re closed (don t say I told you this, though).

The salmon oshi sushi was pretty good but only came with 6 pieces so not really worth the price. The rice in the rolls was really mushy and didn t taste like sushi rice. The rolls were cut really thick. Only 6 pieces of dynamite rolls.

I visited Burnabys Shimodo for lunch with my friend. The staff is very friendly, the sashimi is extremely fresh and delicious, and the sushi melts in your mouth. Super good sushi and sashimi.

Overall great food, we have been ordering from here for a while. To go orders can be touch and go in terms of quality. This was our BC roll just now...come on.

This is my second visit and its becoming my favourite sushi spot near Burquitlam! All of the sushi we ordered tasted great and fresh. I have tried both the unagi and salmon oshi sushi on the menu, and both were phenomenal.

My hubby and I ordered a beef tataki, beef teriyaki, and sashimi don. The beef tataki is thin and delicious, the sauce mixed with onions are perfect together. I would strongly recommend. The beef teriyaki portion is good size and the sauce is enough for the dish. The sashimi don is fresh for the fish, just the tako is not as fresh, not very juicy.

Chicken karage shoya ramen does not look as advertised, it should be a no brainer that ramen and chicken should be cooked separately before it s served, the resulting texture of fried chicken soaked in soup is absolutely disgusting. Apart from that, the other foods are mid-upper level and fast service as well since we are the only customers.

I ordered some take out for dinner last Friday, the foods were not too great. The salmon Kama was over cooked, dry and the portion much smaller than dine in. I had the beef teri don with it, and the beef had no taste and dry. Very disappointing! I would not recommend take out from this place. The restaurant is dark, need some renovation and clean up. Their Port Moody location is much nicer.

We were a loyal customer when we lived close by. Today we (with two young kiddo) drove a long way to the restaurant again l. However, the server wouldn t give us a table. We know there isn t a table for 4 anymore, but we offered to sit in a smaller table using high chair. She said no. We then found there are two bigger table are taken by only two people, who haven t even ordered. I asked again whether they can rearrange the customer. She said no again I know we should reserve but given there are plenty of un taken small tables and most customer just sat the servers clearly just don t care about our business. Would not return sadly

Beef Tataki was amazing! Not a paper thin slices, but thick enough to have all the juicy flavours. Salmon toro was so good and sashimi was all great quality. Overall it was such a square meal. ~ :)
