Sushi S Japanese Restaurant in Burnaby

Consistent and delicious food. They put a lot of effort into their plating and presentation, and it shows. The chefs here do not cheap out when it comes to content of dishes. For example, the chirashi don contains just sashimi in good portions; whereas I have ordered the chirashi don at countless other places and it comes with sweet egg rolls (tamago), fried tofu, and other fillers. They have chef specialty rolls as a part of their creative lineup, all worth trying at least once! Im a big fan of Sushi S for their service and consistently great food. Parking may be difficult during popular eating times because there are only a few spots and others are reserved for other stores and restaurants in the plaza.

I tried the donburi today but the veveveve roll sounds so great, will definitely need to come again to try that Vegetarian options: Most special vegetarian roll Ive seen on the menu

Amazing food! Got take out from here for the girls at our salon, everything was so fresh and tasty everyone was obsessed with it. Definitely recommend checking out this place for great quality sushi.

I had a disappointing experience at this sushi restaurant. I visited with three friends who wanted to enjoy sushi, but due to my severe allergy to fish and meat, I inquired if I could bring my own food to eat with them. The server immediately rejected my request, so I asked to speak with the manager. Unfortunately, the manager, William, simply said no without listening to my situation or understanding my allergies. The server spoke with him in Japanese, which left me feeling excluded and frustrated, as I couldn t understand their conversation. Ultimately, I had to leave and eat alone before rejoining my friends. I found both the server and the manager to be unprofessional and unaccommodating. I wont be returning to this restaurant.

Best dynamite roll in Burnaby hands down. Also love the spicy sauce. It s gochujang based and not sriracha which I love. There s a spicy pork on the menu that s fantastic. Love coming with the family in the evenings. Great atmosphere.

From the moment we arrived, Min and the other servers were simply wonderful. The food was the best Japanese food I have ever had (and I LOVE Japanese food). The prices are so reasonable. Located in a little strip mall of restaurants with adequate parking.

Yesterday, my husband and I ordered Spicy deluxe Chirashi Don. it was so delicious. Fresh vegetables and various kinds of raw fish. Flying fish roe. Beets...etc. We started with raw fish, then mixed vegetables with gochujang and ate it with rice, and then Seafood udon Soup... It was very fantastic.

It s been 7 years since I discovered this amazing restaurant. Actually I have never been there in person but I order from there every week. A good thing about this place is the fish is always fresh and so delicious. They prepare it very well and the dishes always come with some beautiful little flowers. They sent me a wrong order once but the manager called me and I received a credit back to buy next time and a nice letter explaining their apology. Sometimes the food app doesn t work properly but they always call me and adjust my order!! Overall I highly recommend this amazing sushi place.

The Volcano Roll is so delicious that it s packed with all the delicious ingredients so it can t be delicious. And the plating is so pretty if you eat it at the store. Sashimi and nigiri sushi are also very delicious!! I liked that the sashimi was thick haha. May the boss prosper~~~

The Gyoza that I ordered today May 30 at 12pm arrived cold . I had priority delivery and saw on map the driver delivered directly from Rest.

First time visiting Sushi S. What a great spot! Our server William was amazing! So attentive and on point with everything. Havent come across this type of service in a very long time. Our sushi was fresh and very tasty. Food came out fast even though they were really busy. Definitely will be back. I highly recommend you try Sushi S!

The only way this restaurant could possibly improve would be to move to a posh location! THIS FOOD IS AMAZING! The service is fast and friendly .they even remembered my husband and I from a visit weeks earlier. You cannot go wrong if you decide to eat here .

It s been a few years we are coming to this place. Very welcoming, attentive and polite people. The food is fresh and delicious all the time. As we tried sushi here, our standard is changed and we compare other places with here but still couldn t find better than Sushi S. thank you and keep it up

Go here!! I come here regularly and my fave waitress always remembers me and gets me gluten free soy sauce. They can accommodate allergies here! And they re all so kind, the fish is so delicious and fresh and never disappoints. No reason not to come here for any meal!!

It is a very good takeout experience from Sushi S. We ordered some nigiri sushi including toro, hamachi, scallops and botan prawns, a red roll and a deluxe assorted sashimi. All the raw fish tastes fresh and delicious. We are particularly delighted with the variety and quality of the sashimi in the platter. The chef was also very thoughtful to have the prawn heads deep fried, which became a tasty snack to go with our sake. One more note - the sashimi was served on fresh shiso leaves and garnished with fresh shiso flowers. This is extremely rare for takeout. Point added! All four of us are very pleased with the food and the price we paid. $40 each for such a scrumptious meal at home is a really good deal.

Unfortunately, todays lunch at Sushi S will be my last. The shrimp tempura in the roll suffered greatly from shrinkflation. Id expect a bit more from an $18 roll.

BAD SERVICE!! The servers just serve for your tips. After we paid, the server never refill any tea for us even we asked for it and not even a word of bye and thank you when we left. It is our first time to visit here but will never come again.

The first time I was there, I tasted California roll, Volcano roll and Tarantula. All of them are amazing Stuff and services are very good and they are very respectful.

We ordered Chirashi Donburi and it was way better than I expexted. I was surprised that the regular tuna was really great. The defrosting for tuna was well done. Toro was obviously so good. Also we had Salmon stick and negitoro which were amazing. The service was excellent. Definitely coming back in the future.

There is a reason why food delivery is so low.The restaurant requires delivery people to carry food bags before they can take the food away.But the fact is that even if the delivery person doesnt bring their food bag in, the staff still let you take the guests food.The shop had the right to ask the delivery people to bring food bag into the shop to bring food, but they did not.This is clearly a management issue. Ive been there twice.The food is really ordinary.If you dont know what sushi is. But Ill still give it 3 stars for Vancouvers sushi *Tips for owner* All sushi restaurants are poorly managed in terms of putting food in their bag. Its 2024, and all delivery people will have food bag unless theyre new to it. Asking us to bring food bag, but the staff didnt put food or soup in order. It just makes delivery people more difficul to do their job.Walking around with your food inside the food bag only increases the chances of destroying the guests food. Im sure theres a lot of delivery driver like me, will prepare a lot of different sizes boxes and bottles.To prevent food from shaking and toppling over inside our food bag.

Best sushi I had in Vancouver.

The Japanese employees at sushi S really did well . My server was polite she brought me a chilled mug for my pop. She had an enthusiasm about her that brightened the room. This definitely added to a great visit. The scallop Motoyakii was mouth watering and the Chicken Teriyaki came out smoking hot and sizzling the way it should. She brought it out immediately!!! I didnt have to wait for it at all even though it was somewhat busy. Great little gem of a place to enjoy a quick lunch or a casual dinner.

My common-law partner and I have been regularly coming here since my friend first introduced me to this restaurant about 8-9 years ago. It is a great stop for lunch for us on the way home from grocery shopping, but also for dinners with friends. William and everyone on the team (though I dont know anyone elses name; Im sorry!) are friendly and pay attention to special requests. Chefs will say hello if they spot you, and the entire team has an air of knowing each other well, as their chatter and enthusiasm creates a nice atmosphere in the dining area. They know their regulars, and we were surprised when they first recognized us. They make sure to let us know they remember us, and show their appreciation for us coming back regularly, which we in turn really appreciate! Because I am immunocompromised, we did not dine out much (read as at all) throughout the first couple of years of the pandemic, and only ordered takeout from them. When we had stopped ordering from them for a bit when I had gotten sick, they even asked my boyfriend the next time he went to pick up take-out what had happened to us, and wrote a short but sweet note on the order for me. Despite their busy environment, they were one of the first restaurants I returned to dine in at, as they made me feel comfortable and were super accommodating. The food is always beautifully presented and tastes fantastic, but service is the key reason we keep coming back. Thank you everyone for always making us feel welcome!

We came here just at opening for lunch on a week day as it got busy at 12. We ordered sushi & noodle dishes. The ratings are based on everyone s agreement: (1 to 5 with 5 as the best) Ambience: 5 (clean & nice environment) Service: 5 server was friendly & checked on us while repeatedly topping our cups of tea Food: 5 for the spicy pork yakiudon (daily special). Too bad it isn t a regular menu item. Just the right amount of spicy kick served on a large plate. Enough for a hearty appetite or leftovers. Reasonably priced Food: 4.5 for the salmon sushi combo fresh and great presentation (see photo). Reasonable price. I don t know if I was hungry cause I could of eaten more. 4 for the spicy tuna roll tasty but a bit too much mayo on top They gave us complimentary miso soup. There s a good selection of appetizers, sushi combos, & entrees. Overall, we all had a great experience! We ll be back. Note: they re closed on Mondays. They re located on the corner of Willingdon & Moscrop (kitty corner from the high school) with limited parking in front. A bit of a challenge turning into the place due to the barriers & it s a busy intersection.

THIS PLACE IS A HIDDEN GEM!! -Cheap pricing (compared now to inflation prices), the Avokappa roll was $6 and spicy salmon was $7. -Their sashimi is SO fresh, one of the best sockeye salmon (and even better with the price! I think it was $16 for 6 pieces) -We ordered and the food came within 5 minutes, not kidding. -Service was so friendly and we had a great time in general. Will be back for sure

I discovered this place by chance, and the Alaska rolls are so delicious! I came here two more times with my friend, and every time I come, I make sure to order the Alaska roll!! Last time, I had a roll and beef yakisoba together and it was also good. This is my own roll restaurant I havent tried sushi yet, but other tables ordered a lot of sashimi. I visited this place when I first came to Vancouver and didnt know anything, but no matter where I went after that, I couldnt get a roll like this... And the server is really the friendliest Ive ever seen. Ive seen him 2 times out of 3, and he makes me feel so good every time I eat... Business is already very good, but I hope it prospers even more haha. The pictures are of the Alaska roll, smoked salmon cream cheese roll, and red dynamite roll haha.

Our family has been customers with Sushi S for 9+ years since my son was a kindergartener. My son s favourite sushi was Avocado roll with the seaweed wrapped outside (Avocado Hosomaki) Back then this was not on the menu as they only had the bigger roll (rice outside) but the staff was gladly accommodating our request. A year went by and we were happy to see that they added the Avocado Hosomaki on the menu. We do dine in as well as order take-out. The food qualities are exceptional good. Even during the pandemic, their food qualities remain top notch! Whenever we order for take-out, we are often given nice surprises by the Chef Jay. ^_^ To name a few of my favourite menu items: Deluxe Chirashi Donburi, Cataerpillar Roll, VegeVege Roll (on my vegetarian days), Volcano Roll, Botanebi Nigiri, etc. I highly recommend this sushi restaurant!

I came here with some friends for their sons birthday party (he has a few of us adult friends and likes more than just pizza). The atmosphere and staff here are what you would expect from a smaller sushi joint in a suburban area. There is a very nice selection of nigiri, oshizushi, and specials, such as uni and Tobiko+quail egg nigiri! The rolls are always amazing and about 3 or 4 of these are enough to feed the table of as many diners. Are these the best rolls and sushi Ive had? No, BUT the value and quality paired together make this worthwhile. Its become popular with our friend group at work, so weve been coming nearly every week after the day is over. Parking can be a bit of a pain as the lot feels like the wild west at times, so plan ahead! Food: 4/5 Staff: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Overall: 4.75/5

visit on june 7 for the first time : food ok la but the bluedfin tuna is super super fresh and i will give five star., but this is not cheap , it costs 36.- plus for eight slice of tuna., while it only costs about the same price for 14 pcs sashimi comb., other rolls just so so., the soba is very good !

Very fresh sashimi, glad we got the chef s assorted. The bluefin tuna sashimi was my fave. Small place and busy but service was great. Price was pretty average (not too expensive not too cheap). Also had the red dragon roll, salmon maki, seaweed salad and miso soup all were great portions and again, fresh. Would recommend!

Could not find a decent Sushi place near the Burnaby central railway or even one that was open. But again a blessing in disguise that we drove 10-12mins (traffic) to find this little gem. We ordered the Beef Udon, Triple Combo, Sockeye Combo, Mango Ebi Roll, 2 Ebi Niguri and a large hot sake. The combos came with miso soup as well. They also gave us these seafood deep fried balls for Father s Day, complimentary (Love that). Price: It s what you d expect at a Sushi restaurant but a bit pricier. Portion/palate: Portions are great! The Sockeye Sashimi was unbelievable with its texture and thickness. I highly recommend the Sockeye Combo. The Beef Udon was great with lots of flavor. I dip into a lot of wasabi and soya sauce so the rest of the Sushi was mostly my sauce. Place: The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was nice. Lots of space at each table, I didn t feel cramped like other places were the have small tables to fit in more people. The only thing I had a problem with was the parking. Either get there just before it opens to get a parking spot or suffer trying to find parking and walk to the restaurant. There is another restaurant in that area that seemed to be very busy so that may be the reason for the lack of parking. Location is great because it is a few mins off of the highway. People: The staff were friendly and also was very attentive to our needs. Overall I believe my family and I have found our go to Sushi restaurant in Burnaby. Come right before it opens for parking and great Sushi!

Couldn t decide between No. 1 Beef or Japanese so decided we would go to the plaza and see which had seats for us. No. 1 beef was super busy so Japanese it was. Surprisingly during diner time they had lots of open tables! We ve been to Sushi U once before a long time ago. Don t recall it being outstanding but hubby recalls it being good. Staff was attentive. Ordered: Wild salmon aburi $17.50 - one of our favourite things to order but this was a total disappointment. - Pieces were smaller than the standard rectangular shapes these usually come in. It was oddly shaped so rice broke easily when you tried to pick it up, it would fall apart Chicken katsu $16.50 - crunchy and fairly big, but thin - came with miso soup - wasn t a fan of the mustard mayo sauce they drizzled on top - dressing on the salad was also mayo based which was ok but not great. red roll/awesome roll $11 each - my fam s comment was they tasted the same just with diff fish topping and one had noodles Dynamite $7/negitoro $6/Alaska $8 - pretty standard Deluxe assorted sushi combo $35 - came with miso - looked very pretty including gold flakes (sorry photo is missing two pieces as my family are vultures! Lol) - I like that they don t have an overwhelming amout of rice. My daughter mentioned on the menu they indicate they use less rice so you can enjoy the fish but if you wanted more rice you could request free of charge. Kani $9/tako $6.50 sunamono - daughter and hubby had this and didn t ask for their feedback so unsure Would rate 6.5/10 so not going back prob for a long time.

Beautiful, Clean, Inviting. I came to Sushi S Japanese Restaurant to celebrate my friend s birthday. It was a party dinner of 4 and we enjoyed every moment here. The restaurant is clean, nicely designed and decorated, and the seating is comfortable. Our waitresses were very friendly, helpful, and polite. Our party ordered gyozas, spicy salmon sashimi, tuna tataki salad, tako nigiri, black dragon rolls, rainbow roll, assorted tempura, and aburi salmon oshi. We received miso soup complementary. The waitress had told me that my friend would receive ice cream on the house for her birthday yet the waitress brought ice cream for everyone at the table. She had also made a paper envelope with a hand drawn anime chibi of my friend and wrote Happy Birthday! on it. It was so cute and thoughtful and it made all of us smile more. The Inside of the envelope was filled with candies. Every bite of food was delicious and fresh. We all enjoyed everything served to us that evening. Being and avid sushi eater who moved to Burnaby this year, I was disappointed one to many times at multiple sushi restaurants along Kingsway. So I m happy to share that I found my new favourite and go to sushi restaurant in Burnaby! I came back the following day to Sushi S Japanese Restaurant on my own for another aburi salmon oshi and also tried their yakitori! This was actually my noon time breakfast which I was fasting for and craving all morning. It was still delicious and so satisfying! I love this place! A must try. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options. Parking: Good parking. Wheelchair accessibility: Good. Flat ground.

Absolutely delicious sushi here. The vege combo is genius, with the salad dressing on the veggie roll and teriyaki on the yam tempura roll. Fast and friendly service with really fresh food. 100% recommend.

Slow service i had to cancel an order because they took a long time for it to be ready it was already 15 minutes past the actual pickup time.

Sushi S is our go-to Japanese restaurant in Central Burnaby. The food is always delicious and the service is great. Highly recommend.

Tried this specialty roll. Never had one like it. The sushi packed flavour and it was incredibly filling. I will 100% order this again on my next visit!

A nice casual sushi place. The ingredients are of great quality compared with the price. I highly recommend their volcano roll, Chirashi don, bluefin tuna and beef rib entree.

Always our go to for fresh sushi. Its a bit pricey but the sushi is a pretty good size also. They have other exotic sushi Rolla that other places dont have.

I ordered delivery many times but it turned out to be even better for dine in. Not very busy on Saturday evening, friendly staff, tasty food and great presentation. Everything I tried so far was very nice. I especially liked their tea, Philadelphia roll, Yakitori and Red Dragon roll.

Had a fantastic yakisoba for lunch here. The staff was extremely friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Will definitely visit again when Im in the area.

ATTN BURNABY NEIGHBOURHOOD if youre looking for a lowkey but AMAZING sushi restaurant then this is a go to. Its tucked in a little plaza next to moscrop highschool and it offers a wide selection of sushi dishes that are simply delectable. Tried the salmon sticks and deluxe chirashi donburi and those two alone will fill you right up. Affordable and quiet neighbourhood, fast and friendly service. Would definitely come back with my friends to try other menu items. YUMM

The server was very nice and you get free tea instead of water. Which is very nice. The sushi itself was like heaven itself and was very good.

Hands down the best sushi restaurant in Burnaby and one of the best in the lower mainland. Their service, and excellent quality ingredients and sushi is definitely next to none. Would highly recommend them every time when visiting Burnaby.

This place is by FAR my favorite sushi. Its amazing quality, the prices are reasonable. But its the service and staff that are by far the best I have come across. This place was my go to, when I lived in Vancouver, now I live in Montreal. But when I visited last week. The owners are incredible, and SO KIND, and of course the amazing staff! Im coming back!! When I visit to Vancouver again.

Its a restaurant that every sushi lovers need to come once and try. Foods are great and fresh, staff are nice and friendly, fast service. Update: after 5 years being their customer I can tell this is the best sushi restaurant in town and the only one me and family went for. Not only dine-in but we also order for to-go pickup even we live in a different town now.

First time ordering pick up. Reasonable price and exellent food quality. As a previous cook, I could see the effort making food. This place will be my regular sushi place from now on.

2022: Many many years ago I have a 1 star review. But recently the new waitress Sarah was extremely kind. We came back years after covid, and though a waiter made us buy the most expensive option, Sarah was very helpful to us. She chatted with us, and explained the options of each menu item and serving size. She also gave soup on the house so kind... After I mentioned my birthday, she was adamant on getting icecream for me. She is so sweet. Ill definitely be coming back. And they didnt raise the price, which actually makes it not so expensive. 2016: The place looks very nice! The food tastes adequate. But thats about as good as it gets. I sincerely hate giving such negative reviews, but only if I feel mistreated. The first time we came for the grand opening a few years ago, we got a pretty dish with an orange. I thanked the waiter, and he retorted that its only for the grand opening; there wont be any after the event. Well, that was awkward. Who knew it would be even worse many years later? Theres literally no parking (we had to park at bcit), the amount of food they give is very stingy, the price is a bit high, and worst of all, the waitress was very rude. Initially, she gave us a pitcher of tea, then took it away. Later, she asked us where we put our tea which started the lunch off with an uneasy mood. As time went on, we werent attended to for at least 5 minutes. When the waitress did come with food, she had a very big frown and passively aggressively ignored us. We also ordered chicken teriyaki, but she gave us chicken karaage. We told her we didnt order this. She snapped saying that we ordered it and claimed that she even confirmed the order. We didnt want to cause any unnecessary conflict, so we just accepted the karaage even though we didnt order it nor did she didnt even confirm it. We went a year later and had some special rolls along with aburi and a house green salad. It was very heavy, especially the cheezy cheezy roll. After that meal, both my brother and I got sick. The cream and the cheese sat in it stomachs the entire day. We were so sick we couldnt even have dinner. Looking closer at the menu we realized that the sushi were served smaller than usual sizes for quality in fine print and that if we wanted the large rolls we can ask free of charge. Im not going to say anything about that although I would prefer they ask us instead of putting it in small letters. The waitresses were much nicer though! We waved goodbye to the waitress even though we didnt feel very welcome at the restaurant, and she smiled very briefly. At least thats an improvement. I know the place was busy, and the waitress was tired, but that doesnt mean she can treat customers unfairly. I work at a very busy coffee franchise, so I understand the fatigue, but please be more kind.

Be aware of what you are being charged. On the take out menu, chicken yakitori was $13.50. When I got home and looked at the bill, I was charged $15.50.

i ve gone here since i was in highschool and would get the volcano roll a lot. nice to see some familiar faces amongst the servers that are still there. usually i do pick up nowadays and the young ladies and the front were so kind in prepping my order. highly recommend if you re in the area. kind of rough on parking since a couple restaurants also share the same lot but you can park residential behind the store.

All sashimi was not fresh especially when toro was half frozen. I was disappointed and confronted server when I was paying the bill. I d paid tips and full amount. In any case, I won t be going back there again. Then out of nowhere they decided to reach out after 4months it puzzles me when they ignored me 4 months ago and decided to reply now.

Excellent restaurant with reasonable prices. You can order on their website and avoid uber fees.

My server was very attentive, and in addition to the food being really good, the plate presentation obviously has a lot of thought put in to it. After so long of ordering delivery from here, it was an enjoyable experience to actually go in person. Vegetarian options: Had some selection for veg only options. Dietary restrictions: Had some selection for items containing no dairy or gluten.

Food is ok could be alot better... Maybe less sauce? Service is ok. Atmosphere is ok... Food : 3/5

Nice place to taste a good sushi. The price is cheap and the food is great. I extremely recommend this place.
