Hainanese chicken with rice & other Malaysian classics are the specialty at this minimalist eatery.
Love the homey vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant. Great food and great service. We had the Hainanese chicken set, roti and Belachan fried rice. Will come again :)
Been going to Green & Oak since they initially opened and still visit this place pretty often. I’m so glad they were one of the businesses to survive the pandemic. They are definitely one of if not the best Malaysian restaurants in the city. My go-to dish has always been the mee goreng as pictured. Also roti chanai and hainanese chicken is also a for sure recommendation.
We tried the Hainanese chicken, beef curry, roti, and skewers, and everything was delicious. The skewers, in particular, stood out—they were tender, well-cooked, and full of flavor. The service was attentive, and the menu was simple but included some nice specials. Overall, it's a great spot for authentic Malaysian food.
We ordered the Hainanese chicken rice and curry beef. The flavors were amazing. Definitely worth coming back again! My photos didn’t turn out great because the food was so delicious that I forgot to take pictures at first! The chicken was super tender and absolutely amazing.
Great place to eat, parking on the street is free. More parking in the back. They had a skewer lunch special so I tried that, chicken was tender and flavorful. Tried their hainanese chicken rice combo. It is small but tasty. Chicken was juicy and the flavoured rice was hot and tasty. Service was excellent and presentation was wonderful. Decor was nice too. Cash and debit only.
First time came here with parents, the atmosphere feels so relaxing like home. The Hainanese chicken rice is so tasty as well as the chicken is tender. The beef curry is tender and not salty. Oh, the chicken wings were so good, not oily but tasty and crispy. We enjoyed so much.
Food taste good and the atmosphere is relaxing. Though the selection of the dishes for sharing is a bit limited, most dishes are rice / noodle.
Place is cozy and owners are friendly. Delicious food and the kids loves the tender boneless chicken rice. Top up extra to swap out to dark meat. They have spicy and non spicy options for the fried noodles.
Simply the best Malaysian Restaurant in the neighborhood or possibly BC wide
Great Malaysian food!
Vegetarian options: Fantastic vegetarian and gluten options Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Food : 5/5 |
Love the atmosphere here. A cozy restaurant with great food and service. My favourite is the Seafood Tom Yum with vermicelli.
Super helpful and efficient server lady! Tasty food, large portions! Reasonable prices! Love laksa & hainaness chicken combo
Waste my lunch time Are you specifically asked seafood? And they add pork Very Unprofessional Kids Of course this is my opinion Service : 1/5
Food is very tasty and good service!
Great food portions plentiful and taste is great. Service good. Highly recommend the hainan chicken and the house wine good too.
Delicious food in an small and warm place. Love it!!
We order Hainanese chicken, fried chicken wings, penang tofu. The food quality is pretty good, also taste authentic. Both Chicken we order are tender and deboned. Will return for more of authentic Malaysia cuisine next time. Parking: In the alley
It is the best skewers I have ever tried. Other food is also good, but you must order the skewers.
Very delicious with options for vegans. Will be ordering again.
This is a place that attractive in price and quality. We ordered half of hainan chicken rice , good taste. It was raining, but we had a happy time.
Enjoyed belachan rice with shrimp. Also eggplant and green bean although a little greasy
Hainanese chicken was good but the dip, which is a major part of the flavor, was bland - no salt, no green onion. That was disappointing. Singapore noodles were very good. Curry beef was bland but at least did not skimp on meat. Yellow chicken rice was good. Eggplant green bean was good. Bread dish (forget name) was flaky and not greasy, but dip was bland. Combined with subpar service, wont be returning. Theres better Malaysian restaurants in the lower mainland.
Delicious food, excellent service!
They accommodated our table of 14 people.
I have never left a bad review before. I try to find the good in every place and let the bad things slide, but this one is an exception. So I found hair in my food, no big deal, I simply asked them to send it back and remove it from the bill. The owner came and said: You are still paying 50% because you ate some of it. Oh, you are making a big deal because you just want free food. My advice to the owner is to respect your customers and dont assume they send dirty food back to save $8. Food itself is ok, when it doesnt come with a strangers hair. PS: the hair was like the kind you might find in more private parts of the body. Edit: The owner replied with a long essay full of lies. Skipped right past it, though. Theyre shady and not on the level. If youre bringing kids, be cautious I ended up with a bad stomach after eating there.
Never disappoints. Beef laksa vermicelli, satay skewers, roti, pineapple fried rice, char kuey teow,... Just try everything!
I have been to Green & Oak more than 3 times, before the pandemic, and somehow I have forgotten about how delicious their food is. I came here tonight, years later, and it blew me away how delicious everything here still is! Must have: Hainan chicken (moist and tender), roti (charbroil taste), laksa (with a surprising kick), green beans with eggplant (rich laksa paste), any noodle or rice dishes! Basically, everything is delicious! There are other Malaysian restaurants in the Metro Vancouver area, and Ive tried most of them. Green and Oak is hands-down one of the best!
Perfect! Food is excellent, price reasonable and service nice. Parking available at the back of the restaurant. What else i can ask for?
Good foods
everything about this place is perfect. the portion is quite large but very affordable whether you re a heavy eater or light eater (you can bring it home). pricing is average but portion is above the norm. would recommend if you would be around the area! 100% worth trying if you want good malaysian cuisine. parking is limited to side streets or on hastings, it would be an annoyance for dinner but lunch time parking is perfect. would come again! Parking: street side parking, there s parking spaces alongside the lanes nearby. it s 2 hours free parking too
Very busy place! The Hainanese chicken was a bit mushy and bland. The tables are uncomfortably close to each other and the walkway s quite narrow. The servers were rushing to get to everyone, so the eating atmosphere wasn t that great
Great Seafood Laksa! Im totally excited about not having splashed any onto my golf shirt but for once, it would have been worth it. Food served within 5 mins of ordering and refilled my tea everytime I took a sip. Only reason for lack of line up is limited parking and quick turns. Will be here again soon.
Been here a few times and have always enjoyed the food here. I do want to write a review about my most recent experience. Upon my recommendation, I brought another family to dine with us as I was told their children enjoy Hainan chicken. At our table of 8, there were 4 adults and 4 children. 3 children were ages 4, 3, 2, with the 4th child 6 months old (aka did not eat). We ordered the whole hainan chicken combo with 4 rice, as well as 2 orders of roti. The food came without incident and as expected, delicious. Where Im having trouble understanding is when we were paying, the server informed us that because it was a table for 8, that there was a 15% automatic gratuity. I was shocked.... I understand the automatic gratuity if there were 8 separate dishes and the effort it would take to time all the dishes so they all came out at once. Perfectly understandable. However, we ordered 1 combo dish and 2 orders of roti. Furthermore, 1 child did not even eat as the child was 6 months old! Now dont get me wrong, its not like I wasnt going to give a tip... however, the way it came out without prior notification was less than desirable. I mentioned the fact that 1 child wasnt even eating while I was paying but the server didnt respond. Of course I paid the bill fully and left without incident. Thanks for food, but if this is how you want to make money by nickel and diming 2 young families, Ill gladly take my patronage elsewhere.
Hainanese chicken rice is the best and overall the food is delicious. The staff are very polite, fast and considerate. We made a reservation and ordered in advance for a team lunch. When we arrived, food was served without any delay as staff knew that we had just an hour for lunch. Highly recommend.
When my family and I went inside, the waiters were really attentive and courteous when they showed us our seat. By the way, you will need to make a reservation ahead before going there. And once we placed our order, they were quick and efficient about it. They brought our utensils and water cups.
1st time here and I did a take out. Very Disappointed that they MISSED my satay skewer!! At first, I dont understand why it needs a minimum of 6 skewers to make an order, and now they MISSED the skewer, only 5 skewers now. Cant believe that
Friendly, warm, and attentive service. Tasty food, refined flavours in the curry, and generous portions for a very reasonable price. We ordered a deep-fried tofu appetizer, which was meal-sized in itself! Well be back! Vegetarian options: Hey, its a Malaysian restaurant--tofu and vegetable curries on rice or noodles! Dietary restrictions: Im lactose intolerant--but no problem (but for two of the three desserts) Kid-friendliness: There were two or three tables during dinner with small children--no problem!
What a great Malaysian restaurant! I was craving flavour and I got it. Delicious curry and great staff. Highly recommend. Try the beef brisket curry and sub roti. I ll be back for more
Tasty food and great service!
Best Hainanese Chicken in town. The Roti is good too! My go to restaurant for everyday lunch and dinner.
Went here based on girlfriends friends recommendation on Sunday at around 2:00 PM with my girlfriend. Only one other table of 3 in at the time. We ordered the roti canai, beef curry and laksa. The roti canai was decent, roti itself wasnt as flavorful compared to others I had in Vancouver. The curry flavor is very mild, and came in a small dish, definitely wasnt enough for all the roti. The beef curry was not good; the beef brisket was way too fatty, the curry flavors were very mild and had more coconut milk flavor rather than curry spices shining through. Other than the beef, there was only 2 pieces of potatoes. I couldnt finish the meal as it was either not fresh and made my stomach upset or it the beef was too fatty. I walked out of the restaurant with my stomach not feeling right, didnt bother packing the curry home. The laksa was the best dish that my girlfriend ordered. Just a warning it does come a bit spicy but enjoyable. Had one bite, so cant really provide an in-depth review.
Came here with my daughter for dinner. The reviews had us thinking we were in for a treat. I dont normally leave reviews but google asked and thought Id share our experience. Weve travelled through singapore, malaysia, brunei, love the food. Not a food snob by any means either. My daughter ordered char kway teo, I ordered beef curry, we had satay as an appy. Serving staff was great, asked if we could handle some spice, we both said yes. CKT was too sweet, one note - why ask if we can handle spice if there is no spice? I couldnt tell if there was any fish sauce or belacan as it was just sweet. Heck, I suspect it was dark soy and sugar, no oyster sauce or kecap manis even. Definitely no chili oil or any spice. I know CKT is generally sweet, and that there are a ton of variations, but this was just a one note dish. It wasnt terrible, nor too greasy and weve had much worse noodle dishes but... I mean I make it better at home in a teflon fry pan. I expect a bit more from a professional kitchen. My malay beef curry was also disappointingly flavorless, thin and sweet. Meat was overwhelmingly fatty, which I dont mind that but some might (thinking about it, the fatty meat is about the most authentic thing about our visit). It was decently tender. But again, why ask about spice tolerance when I could feed this to my sister who believes black pepper to be mouth blistering spicy? Satay and peanut sauce were just ok, nothing exciting. Look, it wasnt a bad meal, I was just disappointed because I was hoping for a bit more authenticity, a bit more flavour. If I wanted to introduce my sister to malaysian food, Id consider this place as she loves sweet and cant handle heat. Me? I prefer a little funk and a little spice. Sadly this place did not deliver on that. I wish the restaurant the best, I hope they do well. Maybe it was an off night. Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. I want to see more malaysian options around. But I doubt Ill bother to visit again.
Large portions, fast service, good place for lunch.
Delicious Malaysian food and it has veggie options. Excellent services and great team work. Well done. Highly recommend this choice on Hasting.
A cozy place for family and friends. Fair price and free parking outside. Love their Roti canai , Laksa and Hainanese chicken. You can choose the size of Hainanese combo.
Char Kuay Teow was so goood! Love it! My husband said that it s been a long time that I haven t kept saying delicious while I m eating. Lol
Food was OK
Nice food and nice service, will come again.
Havent been here in a while and I remember this place had decent Malaysian food. However this time it was disappointing, not sure if they changed chefs or owners recently but the quality and taste has gone downhill. We ordered the skewers, mee goreng, and beef curry. All staples of Malaysian food. I agree with the review below, I felt like I visited a Hong Kong fusion cafe tonight, as the dishes were not authentic at all, but they were trying to be authentic. Skewers were all overcooked and tough, peanut sauce was diluted and lacked flavour. Mee goreng tasted like spaghetti made with ketchup or cheap tomato sauce. Beef curry was a very small portion for the price, the beef was also tough. Heck I could get better beef curry in an actual HK cafe, its the same thing anyway. It might look good visually but we lost our appetite after a few bites. The only highlight was the JJ Lin songs in the background.
It might have started as a Malaysian restaurant a few years ago, but this is actually Hong Kong style Chinese restaurant. A friend invited me to this restaurant 2 weeks ago as they wanted to treat me to some nice authentic Malaysian food (they know that I immigrated from Malaysia). We ordered Hainanese Chicken, Curry Beef, Char Kuey Teow, etc. These are very popular food in Malaysia. But their Hainanese Chicken is not the Malaysian style at all. The chicken rice was yellowish, and the taste is not what Malaysian Hainanese Chicken rice should taste like. I have never seen yellowish Hainanese chicken rice being served in Malaysia. The rice they served was also super salty to the extend of not edible. The chili sauce they served was also wrong. This restaurant also served ginger scallion sauce with the rice. I have never seen this in Malaysia too. Their Curry Beef is actually Hong Kong style curry beef. Their so called Char Kuey Teow is actually Hong Kong style stir fry thick noodle with pork/prawn. Authentic Malaysia Char Kuey Teow uses thin, skinny noodle. It has prawns, and not pork in it. They put green/red peppers in their Char Kuey Teow. There shouldnt be any of these. There is no shame in calling themselves Green & Oak Hong Kong Restaurant, but to call themselves a Malaysian restaurant is taking whoever that wants to experience real Malaysian food at that restaurant for a fool. I would not recommend anyone to go here for a taste of Malaysian/Singaporean cuisine.
This is a family-run business, they have amazing service. It was so cute to see this Im contribute to their restaurants and work with their parents. This is my second time here and my kids absolutely love the hainese rice. Food came very fast on both occasions that I came here. However Googles accuracy on its busy peak times were inaccurate, it said its busier than usual when the restaurant was empty. If youre in a hurry I would just call and check in instead. I would definitely visit again.
Tasty Malaysian on Hastings! Their decor is simple and clean. They are famous for the Hainaness chicken but there are other things they make well, as well. My favorite is Laksa eggplant and green beans. I order it every time with the chicken. Food
I tried the roti canai! So good! And the Hainan chicken! Thank you chef!
Great spot, lovely service, delicious
mmmm rotten broccoli
Very good location and great Malaysian dishes
I went here with my family last Friday. It was a nice cozy restaurant serving Malaysian food. We ordered half Hainanese chicken and rice ($26), Hainanese Chicken Laksa ($14.95), Char Quay Teow ($15.95), and Belacan Fried Rice ($15.95). Everything was really good I couldn t pick a favourite. Hainanese chicken was tender and delicious. Rice tasted pretty good. Everything else was tasty as well. Belacan fried rice was packed with flavours. It had pungent smell of salted shrimps, but was pretty tasty. We shared all this food for 4 people. We couldn t finish Hainanese Chicken Rice and Belacan Fried Rice in the end and ended up taking home leftovers. It still tasted really good the next day. I saw some tables ordering Satay Skewers which looked so yummy. Price was moderate. Food was pretty memorable. They accept cash and debit only.
A gem for the price. I had the Hainanese chicken rice combo and it was quite good! For $14.50 its a treat.
Great place for food. Their Hainese chicken is always good!
Great vibe for some light dining. Rice is better than chicken itself. The chicken wings are pretty good though. They do not have enough staff so service could be slower than expected. Overall not a bad experience.
Great food and excellent service. Place to go for authentic Malaysian Food!
Great vibes and great service. Good price for a group of 4 guys. The waitress was really chill too! Definitely recommend trying the Hainanese chicken!! Fast service and that rice! The Chicken Rice is amazing. Food : 5/5
Ordered beef curry on rice. Portions great if you want a lot of meat.
Excellent food and service!
Great food! Great service
Hainanese chicken was overcooked! Skin was doggy. Flesh overly soft. Why boneless! Ugh!
The customer service was exceptional very attentive to our large party. Very nice and talkative however, the food was very bland. Maybe it was an off night perhaps we just caught them by surprise but everything was very bland. The mee gorang was tasteless and lacked seasoning on the meat. Skewers were just lack lustered. I would go again in hopes that it was just a one-off.
The best Hainanese Chicken that I ever had.
They were super nice and attentive to us. Their food was delicious and were relatively quick to serve.
Tasty and reasonable portions/prices. Chicken rice and laksa <3
This little restaurant is a neighbourhood gem. The staff is super friendly. The food tastes great and the price isnt bad. Definitely give this place a try if you want Hainanese chicken. Their Hainanese chicken combo, mee goreng and laksa is pretty good. They also dont charge their spring rolls an arm and a leg. I would go back and try other dishes. Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs.
This is my favourite Malaysian restaurant. I love all their food but the one dish I cannot live without is the green beans and eggplant. So good!
We first tried this place through uber eats and it was so good that we wanted to try it in person. The restaurant has a warm and cozy vibe. The food is amazing, portions are generous, the staff is always kind and prices are good as well. We just love it! Highly recommended! Food
Great food and friendly staff. Love the Hainanese chicken and Laksa noodles.
Great service. Tasty dishes. The roti canai was amazing. The seafood rice dish was a must have again. Spicy but next time I want it spicier. The beef was fatty but they use brisket so understandable.
Recommend everyone to try Laksa soup in here
Too much fat in the beef curry and the chicken curry had skin .it should be skinless
Everything was delicious curry was very comforting and the chicken wings were crispy and Juicy!
I wanted Hainanese chicken and I wasn t disappointed. The chicken was very tasty and juicy, the rice came with it was also good. Also ordered roti canai which was good but I had better roti canai somewhere else. The pork skewers were delicious, the beef ones were a bit dried. The restaurant was clean, the waitress checked on us often to refill water and take away empty dishes. I highly recommend Hainanese chicken here
Had been looking for another Malaysian restaurant that wasnt too far and found this place. We went for lunch and ordered the hainanese chicken set menu and the char kuey teow. The chicken set menu comes with soup, rice and some ginger & red chili dipping sauce. We got the one with 1 rice and soup and it comes with quarter of a chicken. You can get half chicken with 2 rice and soups or whole chicken with 4 rice and soups. The char kuey was good as it is rice noodles, with shrimp, pork tofu, egg, red pepper, green onions and bean sprouts. I havent had rice noodle for a while and we were hungry so it tasted even better. I also forgot to take photos of the food as we started eating it right away. The interior is basic yet modern and has some panels with polkadots. Its simple but still works with the place.
Exotic Malaysian food at its finest
Delicious food and very lovely atmosphere. Strongly recommend to try their laksa and Singapore vermicelli
Delicious dishes that will make you a regular customer once you eat them Must-eat Malaysian food in Vancouver
The laska is ok....appreciated the variety of seafood, but there wasnt much flavor. I typically love the chili/lemongrass/peanut flavors in laksa which were absent from this. It was ok.
The best spot to get hainanese chicken in Burnaby. Soft juicy and tender! Good portion of fried noodle and rice as well.
Everything was awesome
Not as good as the first or second time we visited. I wont visit again! No stars!
Very good.
clean, good service, generous portions, and affordable
We ordered roti, curry seafood fried rice, and mee groeng. The food quality is getting worse( compared to last time visit) BUT the worst thing is having stomachache after 60mins eating. Will not go again.
Fantastic food.
Nice ambiance, friendly service. We tried a few dishes including mee goreng, pork curry on rice. Mee goreng was tasty, the curry, however, like others have said, was watery. The pork has certain smell, much like leftover pork. Fresh pork that is prepared and cooked properly does not smell so I think the owner may need to take note of this. We were there a few months ago, so things may be different now.
We ordered the mixed skewers, seafood laksa, roti and Hainanese chicken rice. Everything else was good except Hainanese chicken rice because my friend said the taste was too bland. I will come back again but avoid Hainanese chicken rice (though they have it written on their signboard.
Roti good stuff! Skewer good stuff! Laksa gone. Very clean. Looks great inside. Friendly family staff. When we left, saw every one else ordered the chicken wings. We should have ordered the wings too! Free tea is a bonus. More places need to do that, is classy.
We ordered laksa with Hainan chicken and laksa with beef. Both meat were tough and tasteless. The broth was watered down and bland (except for saltiness), lacking any flavours & fragrance of coconut milk and spices.
Love their Hainan chicken! Overall is tasty! We usually order take out but next time we will definitely come to dine-in.
Love this place, I go there a lot, cause it has great food and I like the ambiance Parking: Weekends unlimited parking in front weekdays short walk around to corner
Good food. Service is a little bit cold but not bad.
I like their skewers. Their laksa is good too, with rice noodle or egg noodle or mix you can choose. I tried laksa with hainan chicken this time. I found the chicken is good but does not go well with laksa. Perhaps seafood laksa would be better.
This is a really nice place. The food is fresh and flavourful, with a simple yet well rounded menu. The vibe is relaxed and informal. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
Good food except fish cake it was like there was no fish.
Chicken Laksa is great!
Best Malay restaurant in Vancouver, closest taste to home/ Malaysia.
Absolutely delicious food! The meat is tender and the flavors are divine. I will be ordering again.
Been here twice. Food tastes very fresh and homemade to me. Not too salty, greasy or coconuty. Its spiced and cooked well. The Hainanese Chicken is very tender and the portions are really good. It will be my regular goto now.
Came in for dinner on Thursday night. It s too bad they close at 9am, pretty early. I think 10pm would be better. Not our first time here.. the food quality has been consistent. Definitely enjoyed the char kwee tiauy the most. The hainanese rice was ok, not as authentic. The chicken wings and the beef curry were yummy. Great service as usual and friendly servers.
The food is okay. Small portions for the price. Cash or debit only for take out
What can be said... absolutely excellent and authentic Malaysian cuisine. The noodles in the picture is the Mee Gorang and the soup is the Tom Yum. Both were fabulous. My friend also had the Singapore vermicelli, equally delicious. You simply have to get the roti canai to start....its to die for! Definitely worth the price but be prepared for a potential wait to get in. It wasnt a long one, but we might have been the benefactors of fortunate timing. The service is good and the owner is extremely friendly. Highly recommended!!!
Food was delicious, I love the curry! Great little spot for lunch. Will definitely be back :)
Vegetarian options available. Had the vege and tofu tom yum and roti canai Hananese chicken with rice and soup is the star here. The 1/2 chicken combo was enough to share for 3 with extra order of Char Guey Teow. There was a bit of a wait on a Saturday evening, so reservations a good idea. Attentive, friendly service. Once seated our orders came promptly despite how busy they were.
Simple and clean Malaysian cuisine!
it is a very cosy and comfortable little restaurant, nice dishes and nice service, although the Manu doesnt seems change too often
This little hidden gem is awesome. Great selection of tasty food with a nice atmosphere. The staff was great and attentive. The only complaint that I had was that the food came out a bit cold. I guess it was just the luck of the draw. Other than that awesome place and variety of good food.
Menu items are all reasonably priced for the portion and quality. Everything is quite tasty! Easy to find parking in the area, but I do recommend making resos.
At the time of writing this review, this will be my second time going to this restaurant. The food was very delicious and because we were a bigger group (7 people), I felt that the customer service was exceptional. They were attentive to our needs such as asking for water and refilling our cups with tea and water. The food came relatively quickly and everyone in the group loved the rich flavours (this was the first time for most of my friends trying Malaysian/Singaporean dishes). We ate the roti, skewers, Penang tofu, pineapple fried rice, char guey teow and mee goreng. They were all amazing and I would definitely order these dishes again. The most unexpected dish was Penang tofu because it was crispy and airy with flavour Ive never had before. Overall, for a Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant in Metro Vancouver, this is one of my favourites.
Excellent restaurant .I would say a hidden gem in Burnaby Heights . The service offered by Jun was diligent, very fast and professional. It was easy to substitute some ingredients as seafood by chicken and no cilantro. The satays are delicious same as Mee Goreng and the Hainese chicken Laksa . Great portions, well presented and affordable . We will go back for sure !!!
My friends and I had an enjoyable meal here last weekend! All dishes were delicious and I would definitely recommend to try their Hainanese chicken, roti-canai, and char cuey teow! The skewers and veges were tasty too! Definitely will come back!!
I just had takeout from this place for the first time and I absolutely loved the food. Spring rolls were soft and crispy. Malaysian curry (opted for veggie) was bang on with consistency and taste. Not too thin and the right amount of coconut with a very simple taste. Will definitely visit again for dine in.
My personal favorite hainanese chicken + chicken oil rice place in BC. Not too greasy and salty.
We always get take out. Food was delicious. We usually get the chicken rice and the rice is soooo good. I would love to sit in someday as the restaurant decor looks nice. Service was very quick and prices are good especially for the lunch specials.
This place has good eats. We ordered tom yam fish ball noodle (large portion and yummy), chicken curry (solid), penang tofu (very crispy, great app) and lychee soda (so tasty). Lots more on the menu we want to try next time.
One of my familys favourite places to go to eat in the area
Decent Malaysian food.
Got a whole Hainanese chicken today! Love the ginger sauce that it comes with. Their laksa is great as well. They offer different protein options! Personally, I like it with pork or beef but I know seafood is a popular option as well. The service was amazing. I called only 10 minutes ahead because we were looking for a last minute dinner. We had a baby with us so it was difficult to find a place especially during peak dinner time. They were very accommodating and gave us a table with room for a stroller. Thank you for that!
We got a hainanese half chicken with rice and soup, laksa beef, fish ball noodle soup, and roti with curry sauce. The chicken and beef were fall off the bone tender but also full of flavour and juicy. We got the egg noodles which didn t absorb the flavours well, I would recommend a rice noodle or vermicelli. The roti was good. And soups had a prominent lemongrass flavour. The restaurant is very nicely designed, feels clean and modern and inviting. Seats about 30. Food arrived very quickly but probably because most of the food we ordered is prepared in advance due to the complexity of how they are cooked/prepared. Kid-friendliness: Some toys and books for kids
Liked their tom yum soup and laksa soup. also their mee-goreng is very yummy!!! good portion as well. the place offers good relaxing vibe with very decent service
Ive been there a few times since there open. Ordered whole chicken combo with rice and soup today from Ubereats. Very well packaging. To be honest, taste was better than before. Chicken was tender and juicy. Very tasty. Everything was perfect. Highly recommend.
Food quality and service are excellent. The environment is clean and reasonably comfortable. I will definitely recommend my friends to try it. Kid-friendliness: Excellent service attitude from staff
Tastes OK! The price is reasonable and the staff s service attitude is very good
We were so excited to try Malaysian food here and sadly we were really disappointed. We ordered the fried rice and were adamant there be no pork / pork allergen issues and that the pork cant even touch the rice ... well our rice arrived with pork in it. Once the replacement arrived, I took bite and was overwhelmed by sodium, powering over any other flavors or spices. The beef curry we got was the same (although the meat was cooked to perfection). The lichi drink was sadly watered down and chunks of skin prevented me from drinking from the straw lol The chicken wings and rofy were well made. The owners of this place are hard working and nice people and if they can improve on a couple of concerns ( attentive staff when taking orders, lower the sodium content), then worth a try.
First time be here and totally satisfied. Ordered half chicken combo, although it s not the best hai nan chicken in Vancouver, it s still higher then average. The sauce of curry pork was decent;however, the meat is too thin no chewy feeling . For skewers, I like the pork more then chicken just cuz of the texture.
I had the curry beef on rice. Great tasting food, good portions, friendly staff, and relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant and am planning on coming back.
Service was very quick, food was good, although the half chicken was a little smaller than we had been expecting. The soup that came with it was excellent, one of my favourite things ever. The beef curry tasted similar to Hong Kong style beef brisket curry, with big chunks of meat. Overall not bad.
Food is just incredible and at a very good price, a must try! The place is also really nice with a very quiet and relaxing vibe, love it! Staff very kind as well Very very recommend it Food : 5/5
Great delicious food
Rude female manager, food is good though
It was one of the worst experience in food. We order chicken which was their main authentic dish and it was really disappointing. Taste like a plain plain boiled chicken and the quantity was severely compromised. Rice had a disturbing flavor. Cannai was not flaky nevertheless it was extremely hard. Everything was over priced.
Loved the food!
Seafood laksa had so much seafood, flavor of the soup was so delicious. Every bite was enjoyable! Chicken wings crunchy and juicy, lemon vinegar added a nice tang to the wings. Chicken curry super flavorful, just a perfect amount of spice for all dishes. Portions are very generous and big! Would 100% come back for the delicious food, service and atmosphere. Thank you for such a lovely first time experience!
Absolutely amazing food! Reasonable, big portion and super tasty. Chicken combo is a must get! Char Quay Teow has great flavour. Would definitely return to try other things!
They were very accommodating when we asked for old options and even created something new for us!
Tried the Hainnanese Chicken Laksa and Char Kuey Teow today. The Laksa is so good with fresh bean spouts, tofu and lemongrass. The spiciness is just perfect. Liked it a lot! Char Kuey Teow is also nice which my wife loved it. Definitely will come again. Next time will try their Hainanese Chicken set.
A whole chicken for 4 is a greatest deal in town
Reservation made 3 hours before for 6:30. Arrived at 6:30, table not available until 7:10. Obviously it was disappointing, however, staff was helpful to get service going as quickly as they humanly can. Only hope that they wont take reservations if they cannot honor them.
The Fury You Make My Eyes Wonder Turn me 2 StooOone
Ordered through Ubereat today. Got the whole chicken with 4 rice and soup. It was alright. Its interesting they debone the wing too. What was upsetting the most was the cha kuey teow (fried rice noodle). No wok hey. And super super super greasy. And the noodles were limpy. Whoever packed the food didnt give much thought because the bottom of the rice noodle container was just soaked with grease and made my kitchen counter greasy too.
We ordered roti, pineapple rice, chicken and pork skewers, chicken wings, and chicken laska. I thought everything was tasty, and the servers were attentive to make sure they had everything we needed.
the beef brisket is surprisingly good
Three weeks into 2023, and Id been wracking my brain about which favorite place of mine should I write my first Yelp review of the new year for! And then it struck me - but, of course! Green & Oak Malaysian Restaurant, the awesomesauce place which the missus and I have visited 4 times (no less!) since we discovered it barely 3 months ago when craving for hot and tasty food on a cold Fall day in Raincouver! And we cant seem to stop going back for more of their yummy offerings. Located on a pretty, well-lit stretch of Hastings St in the Heights neighborhood of Burnaby, Green & Oak is not hard to find. Theres ample street parking up front or down the road, and theres also a private parking lot at the back which weve never had to use thanks to finding a vacant spot by the front door on each of our visits. The restaurant decor is lovely - bright, cozy and colorful - and has a very soothing and cheerful vibe. The floor space is well utilized with decent capacity and the tables spaced out without crowding the place, and its easy to get seated without much ado even when its busy, which is usually the case. The wide windows offer a nice view of the world continuing to function outside while you blissfully drift away into a satisfying food coma as your meal progresses! The staff are always very kind, patient and helpful, and greet you with a hot cuppa of green tea which feels like a warm hug as soon as youre seated! Im not kidding you when I state that all of their food offerings are delish, and you cant go wrong with your, order. The menu is extensive but not complicated and many of the items in there have accompanying pictures which are helpful but also accelerate the mouthwatering, especially if youre hungry! That said, feel free to ask for recommendations and rest assured youll get some good pointers from your hosts. Our favorite-est of food offerings at Green & Oak is hands down the Roti-Canai *droollll* (damn, I knew that writing this review at the ungodly hour of 2 AM was a bad idea, and Im now craving for the fantastic combination of flaky, tender and crunchy flatbread with hot, spicy and delightful curry! *dreamy sighs*). We also love their other specialities: Mee Goreng (noodles), Belachan Fried Rice, plethora of soups (Laksa, Tom Yum) and Malaysian Curry options with Yellow Chicken Rice, etc. Each of these is flavorful and lip-smacking stuff, and your taste buds and tummy will thank you for the treat. If youre adventurous and like tasting new food items, do try the Durian Bombs for dessert - so unique and good, but be warned that its not for everyone! Their portion sizes are really good, and I cant seem to get enough of the food, so always find myself in a EBTT (eyes bigger than tummy) situation unless I mindfully stop myself on hogging and request for takeout containers. I recommend getting your own boxes if you plan beforehand on taking food home since they charge for the plasticware they provide. Also, kindly note that they accept only cash or debit cards, so please keep that in mind to avoid any inconvenience. Once again, I cant recommend Green & Oak Malaysian Restaurant enough - its just what the doctor ordered, especially during these cold winter days. I rest my case, and fingers. Cheers!
Portion is okay but I m a heavy eater so I was satisfied only because I ate what my friend couldn t. Product quality is amazing, and one server with spiky hair was very nice and communicative. Not feeling the quaint atmosphere that night I ate but I was there for the food so no big.
Roti is delicious! Menu has lots of variety. Place is not too busy on a weekday so you take your time and enjoy socializing.
The food is absolute delicious and the staff is super friendly. They have the best springs rolls in Van-mainland and my always-go meal is their Singaporean vermicelli.
Greeted with a smile when we entered the space and was asked to sit where we like .. Quaint little dining area with warm wood tones & wicker basket lamp shades Hainan Chicken Lunch Set ( from their daily lunch special menu ) boneless chicken ( both white & dark ) options for dark or white only with a small addition$. Chicken was tender and juicy .. perfect match with the ginger / chilli dipping sauce!! Love the rice pilaf that comes with the chicken .. very flavourful with a hint of garlic and other spices & not greasy at all!! Mee Goreng .. a classic Malay fusion dish .. their version is filled with wok-hei which signifies the Chefs wok skills and speed in preparing this dish. Savory, sweet, slightly spicy!! One of the best in town!! Definitely on my list for Malaysian food!! Next will be their satays & curries!!
Passed by so many times and finally I had a chance to try this place! I heard they are famous with their hainanese chicken rice, but since I just had hainanese chicken few days ago at home, so I decided to order other menus. Here is what I ordered :) Balachan Fried Rice I like it because the balachan taste is quite strong. Generous portions and meat as well. It will be better if its spicier (you can ask for fresh chili on the side) and little sweet (just need a bit of sweet soy sauce). Personally, I will suggest to substitute the pork with chicken and add egg on it! Seafood Laksa (mine: egg noodle) Another must try! and yes order the seafood one. You will get fish, prawns, tofu, clam, fishball. Seasoning are perfect and this is not oily at all. Char Kuey Teow Heard lots of good thing about this dishes here and decided to try. I love it! love the smokiness and i will say this the best CKT so that I have in Vancouver so far Tips: Come after the dining hours because they are pretty busy and only 2ppl work there during my visit. Debit or Cash only
Great food!
Super delicious and tasty! Very big portions and good price! They also refill your tea constantly, the service is great. Only problem is cash or debit, otherwise totally recommend.
Loved their food and the fact that they cater to a lot of different diets. Their roti canai and Singapore style vermicelli are so good. Looking forward to coming back!
