Came back for more pickup: Quesabirra Chimichanga Tacos: carnitas (pork), barbacoa (beef), Pollo Mechado (chicken), and fish. Completo Chilean Hot Dog (no jalapenos) Kids love all their hot dogs, even with the extra toppings. This was a great order and we loved everything. I think the Chimichanga and the tacos were standouts for the adults. This was only a bit too much food for one meal: we had a bit of Quesabirra and rice left over. Got pickup: Quesabirra (fried beef tacos with broth) Chaka Chaka (fancy hot dog) Chicken torta (sandwich) Empanada (ground beef pastry) The Quesabirra was excellent. The Chaka Chaka was fine, but my kids loved it. The Chicken torta was disappointing. Ive had at other Mexican places and it was different. This seemed like a ciabatta bun and with chicken salad. Maybe I picked the wrong one. Kid-friendliness: Kids love all their hot dogs, even with the extra toppings. Get them to eat some green beans and tomatoes! If you ask for no jalapenos and dont add any hot sauce, generally nothing is too spicy.

Down to earth home cooked Mexican cuisine. Casual little spot, very friendly lady making fresh food. Nice to get a genuine meal with a genuine smile. Can t wait to go back and try more.

The most popular dish: quesabirria were awesome and blow the soft tacos options out of the water. The soft tacos were great as well but we werent able to order the steak one as they were out. Would help to have more seating and pretty things up a bit. Will come again to have the birria and try the steak!

Small, simple, sooooo good. Sure, you can find Mexican tacos here. Theyre great. Good ahead & order several. But do yourself a favour, and eat something the genuinely sweet & friendly Chileana owners made for you, that you wont find in other taco shops. My first visit, I had a Chacarero sandwich. Wow. The Quesabirria tacos I also had came with an excellent dipping sauce, too. Wait, what?? Taco dipping sauce?!? Yep. And the house made salsa ... fantastic on everything. Thanks, Ill be back soon !

Im from Argentina and the beef empanadas were delicious. But when they said it came with olives and hard boiled egg, I didnt think it would be one singular whole olive and one whole slice of egg.

inconsistent and not worth the cost. first time I had this was great, flavour was there, food was hot. the second time- takeout. was charged $6-7 for a side order of birria placed in what seemed to be a 2oz dip container, ridiculous. our items that were supposed to be crispy, turned soggy too because they didnt have openings in the container. third time dining in, thinking it would be like the first... the food was bland, room temperature. and it wasnt one dish i ordered that was this way but multiple dishes. i really wanted a good meal that night but left unsatisfied and still hungry. i left to eat at another restaurant. honestly the quesada down hastings does a better job in flavours, consistency and pricing. so dont waste your money here unless youre seeking out something out of the norm.

Excellent service and culinary experience, the complete ones I ate have nothing to envy of the Chileans. Very, very similar, except for the mayonnaise, but very delicious. We will continue testing for more comments.

The food here was super delicious!! There was a sweet woman who works here that recommended some items on the menu and was also very kind in her service in general! Definitely recommend coming here :)

Ordered a chorizo burrito and birria taco. They were both amazing. The taco was probably the best birria Ive had. Everything feels very authentic and the flavours are proof of that. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Ill be returning to this special space. I cant recommend this place enough.

12 bucks homemade guac and chips was clearly store bought, both of them. Pretty terrible from a taco place. Salsas were watery and tasted of very little. Id be embarrassed to serve this.

I saw the reviews before going - and as compared to other mexican food in the Vancouver/Burnaby, the food here was pretty bad. We tried the Quesedilla and it seemed everything was commercially bought, including salsa and gauc. Very mediocre.

Portions are a little small but its a good price too.

Bought some beef empanadas. Unfortunately they didnt taste at all like the previous times. Very disappointed maybe El Oso was hibernating and someone else made them. I guess I wont go out of my way anymore. I will get my next empanadas from Panaderia Latina.

Absolutely unprofessional!!!! Placed an order for a large family gathering to celebrate our daughters 18th birthday. Order was several hundred dollars and was for pick-up. Just when we were leaving to pick-up the order the restaurant called and cancelled the order!!!!! No explanation or reason, save yourself the Hassel and go somewhere else. Maybe the owners should consider opening a Taco Bell instead!!!!

The food and service gone downhill. It used to be fun, vibrant and good food. Too short-staffed to enjoy any longer. We went a few occasions but think it will be our last for awhile.

I recently visited this little Mexican restaurant and had a neutral experience. The positives include good food and friendly staff. However, the food was served in cartoon plates, and the restaurant had a small and hot ambiance. Additionally, the smoke from the kitchen lingered in the dining area. Overall, its a suitable spot for a quick lunch.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. After reading the reviews, I was excited to try their Birria tacos - which were already sold out, at noon. So, I ordered an old favouite: flautas (I had beef), that I used to get at Chronic Tacos in New West. This did not even come close! Tiny potion, bland beyond belief (TG she offered me some hot sauce, after the fact). I could not discern that the tortilla the flauta was wrapped in was made in-house, as was advertised. There was nothing special about it. I will say that the beef was moist and tender. The rice tasted like Minute Rice. I only ate a few bites. The Hastings location is very small and very... understated; extremely basic; plastic cutlery, too. For the prices, certainly not worth it. I will not be back. Parking: I had to drive around the block twice before a spot opened up on the street.

Ive heard so much buzz about Don Oso in Burnaby Heights but it was a let down when we finally tried it this weekend. Extremely slow service, expensive food for what it s worth, cold tacos with more than sour ingredients it hurt my teeth (and im known for loving sour food!). Also, there s no proper ventilation in this location it got all smoky inside and made us teary-eyed. Please update this location as it is not up to safety code and ive seen how beautiful your Commercial Drive location is.

We got 4 tacos and the birria. They were dry, flavourless and a waste of money. The food isn t cooked fresh, it sits in a warming tray. Go somewhere else this place is a joke and overly priced!

I ve lived in California for 20 years and there are a lot of good Mexican restaurants throughout the state. Don Oso s menu looks authentic but the food is terrible. The guacamole is runny and has too much lime, the carne asada is tough and hard, the carnitas is definitely pork, but that s all I can say for it. The chips aren t good, neither is the salsa, and the tortillas are stale and hard.

I bought the beef empanada, completo (Chilean hotdog) and Chilean chacarero sandwich and the beef was stale like it had just started to go bad The chacarero sandwich was supposed to come with avocado and it didn t, the beef was old and not so tasty The completo bread was hard and it didn t have the sauerkraut and it only had mayo, no ketchup or mustard offered The beef empanada was stale, like the meat tasted like it had just started to go bad and the dough was sweet and it didn t have salt which in the recipe the dough is not supposed to be sweet I am not buying from here again not because of how they cook only but also how they preserve the food, it seems like they don t have their food safe certificate or something, I make and sell empanadas myself and I have never tasted an empanada that had started to go bad at all, not even by keeping them one day in the fridge, the empanadas were probably like 10 days old or something to go bad, thankfully I didn t get sick I am going to call both restaurants and let them know they are serving old food that is already tasting like it s going bad

Went in with my buddy from work and I had the empanadas and my buddy had Birria Tacos. By far best empanadas I have ever had buddy said the same for his Tacos. Definitely be back.

Visited yesterday for a quick bite before a show at the Pacific Coliseum and the food was EXCELLENT. My fiancé had four carnitas tacos and I had the quesebirria tacos. Both were outstanding!! Well cooked, super tasty and filling. Couldnt ask for more. The staff were absolutely lovely as well! Great experience, will definitely eat here again.

Went in with the family for a Sunday lunch. There was a sign in the door that indicated cash only. We ordered but were told they didnt have any coins in their float. Not sure how you run a cash only business yet are not able to make proper change. We sat down to wait for food and thought it would be good to get the kids to use the washroom before eating. We were told there was no washroom available. I may misinformed but is it not a by-law to provide washrooms if you have seated dining? Staff was apologetic and I recognize that its not their fault so this is not a knock on them. Just not crazy about the experience overall.

Now my favorite Mexican restaurant. Staff are very friendly, the menu is pretty big, and the food is tasty. Price has gone up quite a bit recently after the reno, Dunno how much inflation has to do with that, but unfortunately Ive had to cut back my visits.

Used to really like this place. Unfortunately, the last time I went it was horrific. Prices all jumped up significantly, the quality of the food suffered, and they not only didn t accept card that day, but they didn t have any cash/coins in their register. The only option we were presented with was overpaying for our food probably will not return unfortunately.

Sofa King good ! The salsa verde is fire here. And the Mexican rice is the bomb. I recommend the Barbacoa or Birria. A lot of bang for buck here.

10 out 10 for food and service. The food was so fresh and tasty as they make their own chips, guacamole, salsa, etc. The stuff working there are amazing, and such a fresh breeze of amazing customer service these days. I will definitely keep coming back for more.

I loved the wall mural in the small establishment. The food is authentic Latin food from different countries. Its delicious and yummy. The prices are cheap if you want to save money. The only thing I did not realize is I ordered a tiny and small soft taco that was a kid sized portion ha ha. I was not expecting that! The taco salad made up for it the next day. I like the recyclable container bottom. The employees are nice and helpful and warm Spanish people.

Found my new love today!! Her name is Birria ...Ive been enjoying authentic tacos in this city ever since they arrived with the beautiful people that moved here from Mexico back in the day but never have I heard of this tasty treat until today!! ...Sorry Carnitas, theres a new kid in town and theres no looking back well maybe a quickie now and again but the love is reserved for Birria. The super nice people running Don Osos made it all the more enjoyable, thanks and will for sure be seeing you soon

Even though this place is small the food is incredibly tasty and not that expensive. The service is fast and they get very good desserts too, for example flan and mil hojas cake. The tacos I had came with a bit of spicy (very spicy) sauce but it wasnt uneatable like other ones, this sauce had just the right flavour and level of spiciness that when I added to my tacos it felt so good and paired very good with my carnitas and chorizo tacos. And my bf had the beef taco bowl which was huge. It had lettuce, black beans, shredded beef, white rice, red onion and tomatoes and the mild spicy sauce on the side. And then to go I asked for a Torta de pollo that is similar to a sandwich baguette but it has this Mexican flavor because the shredded chicken is spiced with all the flavour from the jalapeño and chipotle. We are definitely going back again for the amazing food and service they provided to us. Thumbs up for this place! I loved it

Love this place!! No need to go anywhere else. My girls love the tostadas! I was sad they ran out of quesabirras last time I went, but that ok. I got chimichanga and a burrito. Man was I stuffed. The nachos are very good! If you havent had the Tacos, I would recommend the fiesta packs (on the online order menu). You get to try all the meats if you get that package and theres plenty to go around.

It was great experience, the food was okay. They have a unique flavour, for me I just want more spices in there:) Just sad coz it took us 30min to get just the tacos would like to try out other food. Theyre just mostly sold out, not sure if this is an everyday thing or just today...

We ordered takeout and we were pretty happy with the taste of the burrito and carnitas soft tacos. For 2.95$ on Tuesdays it s a great bargain and you are getting a good portion with great taste! We are glad to have found this spot and will be back again, especially to try the empanadas. The medium verde sauce was well balanced and went well with the soft tacos. Overall, this is a place to try for authentic Mexican cuisine if you are in the Burnaby area.

This family owned business is awesome. We tried the Chilean food and it was delicious. I highly recommend trying the Empanadas and the Chilean sandwiches. I came back to say the staff are the best! Friendly, fast and efficient.

The Empanadas are first class. Their Forte is the Quesabirria Tacos.The regular tacos are the smallest around, not very dressed up and there are no real salsa options to go with them. I am comparing them to all the Mexican Restaurants, Commissaries and Food Trucks I go to. The trendy Birria Ramen is very good and the Tortas are excellent too. Give them a try. There are more menu and drink options at the Commercial Drive Location plus Friday Night Entertainment.

Noticed a new Mexican restaurant in the hood that we had to try. We ordered the chimichanga and tostitos, both were fantastic with perfect portion size. I ordered a classic margaritas which was delicious. I saw that they also have live music on the weekend. What a great hidden gem. We will be back.

The quesabirria here is top notch. So are the sandwiches. Full of authentic flavour. Highly recommended. We ve come back here multiple times.

Always on the lookout for good Mexican eats in town. We decided to check out Don Oso s Restaurant. We tried: - Horchata ($4.00) - Tacos ($15.00 for 4) - they were out of chorizo so we went with the pollo, carne asada, barbacoa and carnitas. Best of the bunch was the carne asada ($0.50 extra). Rest of the meats were a touch on the dry side. - Burrito bowl ($13.50) - saddest burrito bowl I ve eaten. Tiny portion and mundane flavour. - Burrito ($13.50) Guess we should have tried the quesabirria. Doubt we ll be back.

Food had zero taste and was served cold.

We tried the Quesabirrias and I would totally recommend it. The tortilla is crunchy, you can actually taste the cheese and the birria is a 7/10. It is understandable as the ingredients to make it are hard to get in Canada but they have a fair price for the food. Good weekend spot.

I m not Mexican but I have tried Mexican food a million times . I fail to understand how they call their food Mexican and their place a restaurant. To start off , they don t have a washroom .if I want to wash my hands I literally have to go into their kitchen to wash my hands ( hygiene ?) food was bland .. chimichanga was a pile of cheese and barely anything else .. tasteless guacamole .. I m never coming back .. P: s - refunding money doesn t improve the experience

Trust me if there was someone hoping to like this place it was me as I live 2 blocks from it. This can be easily the worst Mexican restaurant i tried in Vancouver, I ordered top sirloin soft tacos and I can almost guaranteed that was a different cut of meat, chewy and overcooked. Never coming back!

Utterly appalling - do not order from here. My chimichanga was just a bland burrito, clearly not deep-fried, and it was all served on PAPER which of course went soggy and I was then eating paper. The WORST Mexican food Ive had in years. Just idiotic. Bland bland bland. And it wasnt particularly cheap either at $18. The one-star review is thoroughly deserved.

Last Saturday, our Mexican friends visited this establishment on Commercial Drive with us. Before going in, we looked at the menu and the one Mexican friend asked, Are you sure you want to try this place? We should have listened to him! The food was unmemorable and we all wondered who was cooking and where were they from, the prices exorbitant (considering what it was) and the service provider, apparently the daughter of the owner, was dreadful. One of us ordered a glass of the house white. We were told they didnt have any (hm-m-m, Saturday night, no house white?) - so we asked for a glass of white wine from a bottle to replace that which had been ordered - and, when the waitress, who clearly was not a recent graduate from Charm School, brought it, she said, snidely, Heres your glass of fancy wine! The entertainment which, surprisingly, was good, was very loud and, when we asked if the fellow could turn it down a bit so that we could talk, there was no obvious change. We were literally shouting to each other at the table. I suppose, if you are young, arent from or havent traveled to Mexico or other Latin American countries and have no point of reference when it comes to good authentic food or good service, youd be fine venturing into this place. As it was, we were dissatisfied and embarrassed, particularly because of our visiting company!

Listen up people, this place was seriously delicious! We were just here for an afternoon bite and were so impressed with the quality of our meal. HIGHLY recommend the Quesabirrias tacos if you are a meat-eater. We also got the Meatless Chorizo and it was the best veg taco weve ever had: pair it with some roasted veggie tacos for a balanced GF taco experience. Five stars to the chefs

Put a big order in on Friday for an office function and when I wanted to pick it up on Tuesday it turns out the order got lost and no food was made. Not happy

My wife and I were really craving some Mexican food after one of our favourite places in Port Moody closed we stumbled upon Don Ossos on Hastings near Willingdon. I had all of the tacos, my favourites were the Carne Asada and the Carnitas Tacos. My wife had a Carnitas Burrito which she thoroughly enjoyed! The staff were all amazing and attentive. Food was not too expensive and very delicious we will definitely return!

Best experience! If you re looking for a fun and affordable Friday night Don Osos is the place! Great Happy Hour on the weekends and our server Samantha remembered us from a previous visit, she remembered our order and made us feel at home! She made our experience unforgettable!

watery and flavourless tacos. hottest hot sauce barely had any taste to speak of either, let alone spiciness. youre probably better off just making your own or driving down to the US for some decent mexican food. would not recommend.

Fave new place! Friendly staff and the best vibe. Live music on weekends for impromptu salsa or sing-alongs. Defintely reccomend drinking a Bulldog

I live super close to this place and I finally went in. Glad I did!!! The staff are so nice! I orderd a drink and they did not skimp on the alcohol holyyyy - We ordeed the mini Brria tacos, I could eat 1000 of them. Highly recommend

For a newer business they are making a huge dent in their community bringing culture and amazing food to The Heights! The staff is friendly, upbeat, and always ensure to double check my order before handing it over. My husband and I LOVE Don Osos!!!!! We always get the Quesabirria tacos. First time we had them in the restaurant and that was the best. Make sure to use that lime! It takes it over the top. We also get take out/Ubereats from time to time which is still good. Ive tried almost everything on the menu and have really enjoyed most. Honourable mention goes to the Chilean hot dog!

Small family run taco shop that produces amazing food. There are plenty of closer places for me to get tacos but when i have the time i make the 25 minute drive these ones. You can taste the love.

My boyfriend and I s fave Mexican food spot for date night!! The first time we tried Birria tacos was at Don Oso s and no other spot in Vancouver can compare!! The restaurant is family run and is always super friendly and welcoming. (Also try their horchata whenever it s available!)

Nothing but good things to say about this cute little place! This is a family run business, everyone is so pleasant and just super friendly. The place is small, but cozy! Service is great. Food is fantastic. We always come for the birria tacos (call ahead as these sell out super quickly!) which are delicious! The flan is an absolute must try! And don t get me started on the empanadas! 5/5

We ordered the taco fiesta pack from here a few weeks ago and I ve been meaning to leave a review. All I can say is WOW. This restaurant is some of the most delicious food I ve had in Vancouver and I ll never be eating tacos from anywhere else again. I m so happy I discovered them! 10/10 would highly recommend them to anyone looking to eat some delicious tacos! Do yourself a favour and try this place out! I can t wait to order again and try the other things on their menu
