The food was great. My favourite is the Shanghai dumpling, they use a thin wrapper which isn’t doughy. The fish in batter with seaweed was also one of my favourite! The duck on the other hand was very dry. You can never go wrong with the Shanghai fried noodle as well! Definitely would come again!
The photo on the order platform is totally different than what we received. The 27 dollar braised pork only contains a few pieces of pork and it is not tender at all. The deep fried pork chop is not the same as the picture shown on the menu. Disappointed as a long-time customer
I think this restaurant may be the only one still has traditional Shanghai's dishes in Vancouver. We are happy that we still can enjoy the food in a well kept and clean big restaurant. The food and the prices are good. We come on a weekday for early dinner. The services are good too. If you go there for lunch, don't forget try their Chinese doughnut. It's the best in Vancouver.
Tantanmian is the soupy kind. Doesnt really have much meat in it. Wasn't too tasty. The xiaolongbaos were good. Thin skin and lots of soup. The preserved veggies and edamame fen pi was terrible. So little veggies and just a sprinkle of edamame. The noodle texture was good but it was so oily. Many shanghai places do this dish much better.
The first time I visited Jin Jiang was back in 2014. It's somewhat hidden in the Best Western location on Kingsway and has a strange interior layout. Back then, their xiao long baos were under $5. Now, their steamed Shanghai dumplings are almost double the price ($9.68). But I do admit that they are better than I remember them to be. Filling is fairly juicy. Note that I've had them a couple of times over the last few weeks and found the filling to be different on different occasions. Sometimes being more meaty than other times. As a Shanghai restaurant, their dim sum offering is a bit limited compared to a Cantonese restaurant. We ordered their turnip cakes ($9.68) which were round cakes filled with shredded radish (we kind of ordered this thinking it was like the Cantonese lo bak go but this is much drier in consistency like a pastry). The fried shredded buns ($5.98) is a classic served with condensed milk for dipping. I know this more as silver thread buns (which can be either steamed or fried) due to the fluffy interior of the bun. The pan fried pork buns are basically the like the steamed pork buns but wrapped up like a soft bao and then pan fried for a crispy bottom. The bottoms were super crispy and the filling was still soupy. We also ordered the deep fried thick noodles with shredded pork ($18.98). Contrary to the English menu name, the noodles really aren't thick. I wish their menu names were more descriptive.
My friend and I standed in front of the restaurant door and waited for about 10min before we got served. There was nobody before us and the waitors passed by us at least 3 times and intentionally ignored us. After we sit down, I tried to be polite first when we were ready to order, but the waitors never looked at us. I have to yell to get their attention. If their food is good, everything I just mentioned above is okay. However their food is very over-priced. Their pan fried pork bun is okay, but the fried sliced eels, which is supposed to be a signature Shanghai cuisine dish, does not worth the price at all. The eel is hard and I doubt they cooked it before it got fully defrost. Also how come I paid CAD26.98 before tax and they only serve such a small dish?? Check the pic below. Will never come again.
Food taste is mediocre, price is reasonable. Quality and freshness is good. There are better shanghai restaurants in vancouver but this place is good enough and centrally located if one wants something quick.
Had smoky tea duck but salty. Spicy noodle soup good.peanuts on Peanut ball could have chopped smaller. Came again and enjoyed smoky tea duck, peanut noodles, dessert buns with red bean
Service is terrible. But it s ok. Their manager told us The food isn t good you don t have to come again
Tastes good, service is good
Food: no meat in ribs, just flour and bone. Service: bad. Its own server (skinny lady) told us that don t come back to this restaurant again. Atmosphere: light is not enough Food : 1/5
The lady with short hair (not sure if she s manager) was giving us a mean look face all the time, refused to help us change to the other table that not next to the washroom, rushing us to leave (it was 8 and they close at 9), and when we said the pork ribs tasted not good, she said don t come next time if you don t like the food which is very rude. The pork ribs barely have any meat but all bones, the eel is $38 and was tiny amount. For sure we ll never come again, and we won t recommend our friends come here.
Food was great. Prob one of the best Shanghai restaurants Ive been to for a long time. Only thing that irks me is that their machines will actually accept Amex card when the staff said they cant. When I was about to leave after paying my bill the staff called me back and refunded my payment on the spot to take a different card. Not a pleasant experience. Edit: typo
Tell me to charge 57. But the receipt after taking the card is 68. Why did the person who took the card give me a 20% tip when collecting the money? What service is this?
Recommend the shredded radish cake crab rice dumplings
Service was very bad poor wont go back not impressed
A great restaurant for families and gatherings. Easy to park.
It is not the greatest place for Shanghainese food anymore. It use to be a decent place to eat but this was way before the pandemic I came here. The food went downhill. The Shanghainese sticky rice was so plain that I literally can get it better made at T&T. Shanghai noodles and the peanut sauce noodles was so so. Literally go travel into Richmond side to find a better Shanghainese food with the price you are paying for.
The dishes are all delicious Just not too amazing
In Best Western Hotel
Restaurant is located onsite at hotel . Delicious Shanghai cuisine.
Amazing food
The service is perfunctory! Very slow! The attitude towards guests is different!
Very good food for a very reasonable price. Spicy boiled lamb and Xiao Long Bao were excellent. The pan fried bun was juicy inside and crispy outside. Ample parking downstairs. Highly recommended.
I booked a trip to Vancouver for 3 days and I specifically picked Best Western plus Burnaby for my hotel to go here for the authentic Burnaby Dim Sum. We were denied at the door twice because they were too busy they had 4 to 5 tables open.. So instead we went to Jang mo Jib for a delicious meal. The breakfasts here are good. Service wasnt denied for that. Shame I didnt get to try the Dim Sum.
The cold pots and soups were good, the dishes were average, and the desserts were a bit disappointing. Parking: Enter the underground parking lot behind the restaurant and go up the stairs to the main entrance of the restaurant. Elderly people and children can get off the bus at the main entrance first.
I went with my family and they were the ones ordering all the dishes. All of them were fantastic!!!! The price was also very reasonable as well ($30/person tip included). My only complaint is the location... its kind of hidden away in a hotel and the parking is pain if you dont know where to park.
Food was delicious. The ambience was not so good. Very loud and unorganized dining area. Hard to get waiters attention.
The service was very poor. We had to wait for half an hour to call someone to order. As a result, all the things we ordered were gone. We originally wanted to order noodles with scallion oil, pork ribs noodles and pan-fried crab noodles. These typical Shanghai dishes are served in a restaurant. Saturday dinner time, no more? ? ? ? ? ? ? Isnt this a Shanghai restaurant? ? ? ? Its as ridiculous as if I went to McDonalds and was told there were no burgers! ! ! ! And before we ordered, no one told us that these dishes were not available. We waited for half an hour in vain. It s really awesome , is this fried noodles? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? I will never come here again, it s really a waste of money and it tastes terrible! Poor service! Dont come!
Seafood fried noodles were flavourless. Most Chinese restaurants would throw in a couple scallops, prawns/shrimp and fish. Idea is not to use processed food but we had fishballs. The noodles were soggy because they were sitting in their kitchen waiting to be served. The restaurant used to be great but our 2nd attempt to raise our opinion was hindered by the results.
Delicious Shanghai cuisine at reasonable price.
Good food at reasonable price, service has improved. Recommended.
Food is good and huge quantity at set dinner. Service is very good.
The food is degraded! Too much oil! The price is too high! The dim sum and pasta need to be improved
Jin Jiang Shanghainese Restaurant in Burnaby is a Chinese restaurant with a long history. I have been here many times and the taste is still authentic. If you like Shanghainese cuisine, you should try it.
This is the worst Chinese restaurant I ve ever seen. Don t understand how could this restaurant survive in Burnaby, perhaps there is a recent Chang of the owner and chefs. We have to waste most of what ordered. Such a scam, totally waste of money. For the respect of people, this restaurant has to shut down.
Its hard to imagine this Chinese restaurant surviving in Burnaby. It would not be surprising to know Chinese food of this quality in Calgary or Edmonton. One of the Nanxiang steamed buns we ordered was obviously reheated. The green pepper in the dry pot eel is very raw, and the eel meat is very fried. After eating it with chopsticks, I feel very uncomfortable in my stomach. Guests at other tables also complained about the quality of the food, pointing out that the cooking was far from what it used to be. I suspect its the boss or the chef. Its also possible that the chef took a leave of absence and was caught up by us. If you think that a chef can affect the quality of all meals, then why bother opening a restaurant? This is the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. If this shop was doing business in the Food Court of Crystal Plaza, no one would patronize it. At the same time, it should be pointed out that this restaurant should be the catering department of Jinjiang Hotel, and it may basically rely on the guests of the hotel to do business. If you can go somewhere else, I strongly recommend not to waste your money here. Any restaurant in Greater Vancouver tastes better than this one. And, for being so unpalatable, the price is anything but cheap. What a weird thing.
Overall, the food portion has shrunk substantially and prices have gone up. This place is not what its used to be. Deep Fried Yellow fish: A lot less portion. Spiced Chicken Sichuan Style: Lots of bones, little meat. On our last visit, the service quality was ok. Currently would not recommend this restaurant.
Good food, worth going again
Good quality food at a slightly higher price. I highly recommend this restaurant its a good quality Chinese food!
Best Shanghainese Lunch ever.
The pandemic has hit this place hard. Their portions has seem to shrunk to probably 60-70% of what they used to be. The entrees are super hit and miss when it comes to flavor; we had Peking duck which was good, the fried rice cakes and fried noodles were average, the egg plant hot pot was atrocious, with barely anything in it and no flavor at all, just cornstarch and water as a sauce. Everything was also super oily so be warned. The only consistent item are the xiao long baos, which are still fairly good, but have definitely shrunk. Service is below average for even an Asian place. Ill definitely be looking for another Shanghai restaurant in the future. 2024 update: food quality is the same but the portions are still the same, meaning smaller than expected. It doesnt help that they keep serving on giant plates. Service has improved. They got better servers who have better mannerisms and social skills and theyre pretty attentive.
Nice place to enjoy their delicious ShanHai style food. Dietary restrictions: Very nice stir fried rice cake! Food : 5/5 |
Its really too oily. Please put less oil in the vegetables. Chicken is OK.
Xiaolongbao and pan-fried buns are both good Juicy Red bean pancake momati The shredded chicken braised noodles are good and warm enough in winter It s the first time I ve eaten stir-fried rice cakes with vegetables. It s so smokey.
The food was horrible. By far the worst Chinese food I ve ever had. Everyone told us it was amazing and we couldn t go wrong .but we wish we d gone to Dennys. Spent $80 for 3 dishes and a side of rice. We ate a few bites and threw it all out because it was AWFUL. So bland, absolutely horrible.
I ordered takeout. Can this also be called a casserole hot pot? There was only Chinese cabbage and pork rinds, bacon, and the soup was bland and tasteless. The bun skin is so thick . Ordered this vegetables and meat hot pot but only one kind of vegetable and pork skins???? It doesn t have any taste
Pan-fried pork dumplings is the slim stick loosely-wrapped type instead of the fully wrapped well-sealed type, therefore, contains little to no soup. Steamed Shanghai dumplings and Pan-fried pork buns have plenty of comforting hot juices. Spicy beef noodle in soup tastes more interesting compared to Meat sauce in noodle.
Food is good
Fare price and good food.
People are really nice. Food is very delicious
The rice took at least 30 minutes to come out and by that time I was already full it tasted like msg and msg only I ask for it three times I was like PLEASE The end
Very good food. Very busy but l guess that is due to the food. Helpful in the selection of dishes.
As a cook at home, you can tell from the color and the texture of the ingredients, what is fresh and what isn t. This is disgusting when we open the box we received from the restaurant. That is exactly what i get if i keep my veggies in the fridge for days and try to reheat it .
Chinese New Year lunch was good. A few pictures of lunch
The food here is very good but the parking situation and service leave something to be desired. One of the better Shanghai style Chinese restaurants around in that location.
Very popular Shanghai style dishes
Our smoked fish - a bit raw but quite tasty Nanxiang Xiaolong - Recommended Fried rice cake with vegetables and shredded pork - not recommended, the vegetables and shredded pork are dotted and tasteless Moss striped yellow croaker - recommended, authentic. very hot Our Lions Head - Weibia
Good food and service
Food quality has down graded. The sweet and sour Rock cod we ordered was over fried and burn. The skin of steam shanghai dumplings were thick and hard.
Getting worse and worse
Went here with family March 26, 2023. Table of 8 with a reservation. Did not enjoy the food at all. Something was off like they tried too hard. Quality was sub par and i will not be returning. They also did not have Peking duck which brought a bit of disappointment. Based on what other family members said, they concurred that the food was not good. Rather go to Shangahi River in Richmond.
Mid food, small portions, they don t disinfect the glass spinner in the middle of the table they just wipe it with the dirty table cloth they don t even use a clean cloth or any water..just brush the crumbs off they also start mopping and vacuuming while there are so many customers still
Dirty restaurant, bad service, but ok food. I dont recommend to anyone looking for quality dim sum
Food is mostly okay...portions have gotten smaller! Even the duck is now junior size! Overall it is adequate Shanghai style Chinese food.
Ho sek
Shanghai cuisine that is very suitable for Hong Kong people
Good
Pan-fried buns, steamed buns, and fried fish are all delicious and maintain the standard.
Burnaby best Shanghai style restaurants... gd services and decent foods.
They don t accept 1 seater
Absolutely terrible service. Server walked away while we were still ordering. The owner gave us our bill while we were in the middle of eating. They werent closing for another 45 minutes. The food was bland. They started cleaning the tables around us and chucking the dishes onto the cart. And they vacuumed around our table while we were eating. Definitely would NOT recommend this restaurant.
Always a good place to eat and join with friends. Price point is reasonable. Portion is getting smaller !!
Safe and never disappointed. Same taste for last two decadess
Not too bad, first time visiting, it was quite busy, thats a good sign!!??
Lots of dishes listed on menu were not avaliable
Over price, crazy!
Me and my Wife really enjoyed the food super delicious. You can tell that the cooks really care about what comes out of their kitchen Vegetarian options: Green beans with pork
Food was okay but feel weird about they refused to take Amex but didnt have the machine set up correctly (you may get preferred rate on transaction fees for taking ALL THREE credit card companies), so basically what they do is having the machine set up for taking 3 cards to receive preferred rate but manually refuse customer pay with amex to avoid the relatively higher fee. When the transaction WENT THROUGH they are like hell no I will refund you this and you have to pay with a visa or mastercard. I went to other stores and they either have the machines set up correctly or eat that, no one behaves like this. Interestingly we found that they refunded another order and told them, and luckily that table didnt leave yet so they can redo the transaction . But do you really have to do this just for a few bucks? The standard is OK, but if you don t accept AMEX, you don t set a ban on AMEX on the machine (setting up three cards to accept at the same time can reduce the credit card handling fee, but disabling AMEX will not work). Although the AMEX handling fee is a bit too much, but doing this Isnt it necessary to make a small move? I bought amex without seeing their notice clearly, but they made sure to return the order and try again as if they had seen a ghost. Other merchants I went to would directly ban amex if they did not accept it, and did not keep it for collection. Wool, even if it is brushed accidentally, will not come back and say that it needs to be brushed again. What s funnier is that they returned the wrong order. Fortunately, we were kind enough to tell them, but that table still hadn t left. Otherwise, the loss would have been huge in order to save the handling fee. But is it necessary to go to such extreme lengths for a handling fee that may be less than a few dollars?
This restaurant is located within the premises of a hotel. Is a little bit on the more difficult side to get into the lot but once there there is a bunch of parking availible, including an underground parking area. Food was decent, some dishes were fine, but some others were a bit iffy with too much sauces. Service was okay, as was the seating and cleanliness. Kid-friendliness: Several high chairs availible for children, and it seems like there is a section designated for families.
Not a traditional Shanghainess food at all Salty soy milk absolutely unacceptable Service not friendly no patience No more second time Food : 1/5 |
The best Shanghai style restaurant in Vancouver. You need to book to get a chance to eat in
Awkward and rude service. They changed ownership, as the food portions, service and cleanliness has gone downhill. We were ordering our food and the waiter kept on interrupting/ arguing and telling us that we were ordering too much. Dishes are pricy and on the smaller side. My mother asked for a fork and knife and the waiter told my mom that the white guy already asked for it. Steamed soup dumplings ( xiaolongbaos) are frozen and not fresh, they were tiny, dried out, and not hot. Had the pan fried ones too, they came out less than 1 minute after we ordered, so we assume that it was leftovers from their lunch service, as it was lukewarm and soggy. One of the servers shoved the plate of prawns onto the table, without a serving spoon, and did not care to make room for the dish, so the dish of prawns was almost hanging off the table. Had to flag the waiter down countless times to clear up our table and change our plates ( our plates had accumulated a lot of bones), and when we asked for new plates, he just gave us 4 extra plates but did not collect or take away the dirty ones. We brought dessert and told the server to bring us 4 plates, 4 forks and a knife. She gave us 4 plates and 4 forks, and we had to flag her down for a knife. Tea and water was not refilled even when our tea pot and glasses were visibly empty. Washrooms was absolutely vile, floors sticky, toilets smelled like urine and had urine stains all over.
A hidden gem for local foodies, located within the Best Western hotel. I m hesitant to share about this restaurant with you all, mainly because I really don t want more people to know about it, making it too busy and potentially affecting my future dining experiences. However, I feel that this rare gem deserves proper recognition. Trust me on this - choose the BBQ duck served in with soup, followed by the salted pork fried rice, and you ll have a fulfilling and delightful evening. (Just you know, I came here very often, nothing really tastes horrible here. If you want to try something you interested, go for it!)
I am struggling between 3 and 4 stars as we have been visiting this restaurant for the past 3 years and the quality is not always consistent. Before they renewed their tenancy earlier this year, the food quality went downhill so much that really made us disappointing. But our most recent visit on a less busy weekday brought so many surprises. Xiao lung bao has thin wrapper like paper enveloping soupy meat. The best ever that I had in this restaurant. The smoked duck is tender and juicy. Braised Pork Knuckle is soft and gelatinous. Scallion oil noodles is the simplest and tastiest noodle dishes there. Hot & Sour soup got the right balance of different flavors. After we paid the bill, we saw the owner walked out from the kitchen and we knew why we had such a delicious meal.
Kitchen masters always make mistakes one day (Thin) Casserole with Chicken Wonton >> Light as Water (Contains three pieces of chicken nuggets) Squirrel Rockfish >> Very fishy smell (the first plate of fish was frozen, so I changed it to another plate) (not Rockfish) Shanghai Fried Thick Noodles >> Small portion Nanxiang Xiaolongbao>>ok Braised Rock Sugar Yuan Ho >> ok
It s ok for having a quick bite, such as different kinds of noodles, but it s not a good choice for formal dining. The taste is alright.
Cheap and good quality, may only be open until 9pm
Ive been to this place several times and overall I feel good. The style of the dishes is Shanghainese and many of the waiters are also Shanghainese. When you enter the restaurant, you will feel like you are back in Shanghai, with a sense of intimacy. Among the many dishes, I particularly enjoyed the crystal shrimp. Those who have never eaten it may wish to give it a try. Parking: The parking garage is directly below the restaurant. Park the car, walk up a few steps, and turn around to find the door of the restaurant, which is very convenient. If you are in a wheelchair, you may have to go around the entrance of the garage. Or, simply park in the surface parking lot across from the restaurant. However, there are not many parking spaces.
This is their eggplant with bean curd puff hot pot worth $25. And the other dishes taste terrible!!! Attitude is also very bad.
The worst Chinese food I ever tried Is this serious? ? The food cooked at home is better than his... expensive, less service and poorer... spending money to buy bitter food
Good service
Typical Chinese restaurant atmosphere with minimal service but AMAZING food. Make sure you call to reserve large tables!
Visited again recently. Still no one checking vaccine QR codes.. food still isnt very good. Food was very salty. It isnt as good as it used to be and the servers did not scan our QR codes. Just looked at them. I hope they change their policies.
I ordered an eel paste with crab powder and tofu for more than 30 yuan. The portion was pitiful, not to mention the MSG, it seemed like a whole can was put in it... It was not worth 10 yuan. The crab powder tofu was not salty at all and tasted bland and tasteless. Exaggeration has no taste at all! ! I don t understand why this store can still be opened...it s really a big hole.
Very tasty food and the pan fry dumplings were amazing. The juicy pork dumpling werent so juicy today
Ive always enjoyed the good here. No complaints.
Always maintains quality and taste a high standard along with good services, cleanliness and dining atmosphere. The only reason didnt earn the five stars rating is the portion of noodle is comparable less than other restaurants.
Food is tastes. Good in price and lots parking spot
Came here for the first time and liked the food. Everything we tried was good. Will be back again.
Definitely a place to try! Try to make reservations if you plan to attend during its peak hours.
Jinjiang Shanghai Restaurant, cheap, good quality, authentic Shanghai taste,
My friend said it was pretty authentic Shanghai food. Food was good. Restaurant is very large for big groups. I recommend
Excellent food and customer service! The food is well-prized given its quality!
My go to place for Shanghai food. Price is excellent and food is always consistently good. I recommend the deep fried yellow croaker and pork chops
Very good food and service.
Tastes great and very authentic
good food, Id recommend the soup dumplings.
Great food and price, but service could have been better!
Food was great, not too expensive. Came for lunch and restaurant was packed. As expected of Chinese restaurants, there is no service. Only 3 servers working. Will come back to try dinner menu.
Food was good and service was also very good.
The taste is very authentic, the attitude of the service staff is also very good, and the restaurant is full of people during meal time.
Very delicious food with economic prices
It WAS great. Stopped going to this restaurant ever since a rat was spotted scurrying into a hole in the wall towards the kitchen. I regret not reporting to Public Health right away. Eat at your own risk!
Food is good, services is ok.
Parking: Lot of parkings underground.
Parking: Should post more sign for parking direction
Went out with some coworkers for dinner, the food was spectacular! So good. We tried paying separately but they wouldn t let us since their minimum is 50 dollars for each person !!! Not sure why that is. I m not Chinese myself but two of my coworkers are so it helped that they were around to help recommend the dishes.
Not recommended. I ordered a Peking duck for two. The price was 50 dollars, and the portion was surprisingly small! I cant say the service attitude is good or bad, but they all have a straight face and a very cool look.
The food was great and the services were generally good, except the lady manager from the cashier. She was super mean with a bad attitude. She kept shifting the customers around to other tables and kept rushing everyone to finish the food and pay. We don t understand why she would be kept as a manager. :( We might come back but really hope not to see her again.
good food
We found a good restaurant by chance. We went there several times. The dim sum, soup dumplings, claypot rice, vegetables, etc. are all impeccable. The Yangzhou fried rice has clear grains and is not greasy. We particularly like it. The waiter s accent was hard to understand at first. , but there is no problem. Business is very good during non-holidays, and they are all Chinese, which means the taste is very good.
They asked us to leave rudely at 8:40 pm immoderately after I paid the bill. They closed at 9:00 pm. Terrible services in all of the Vancouver restaurants. I am writing this to let you all know please do not come to this place. Your day will be ruined. The voice must be heard! I have never encountered such a bad service in a restaurant. It closes at 9 oclock. 8:45 I shoo us away as soon as I pay the bill. Said it was time to get off work. The chef obviously cooked randomly. The bad attitude was documented in photos and videos as evidence. I hope you don t come to this restaurant and get upset. In the future, the video will be uploaded to major social media for everyone to see how bad the attitude is. Im here to consume, not to waste.
Parking: A eelatively large parking lot for customers.
I went with my sister and some friends I havent seen in a while on Friday evening. I love Shanghai cuisine so I couldn t wait when my friend chose this restaurant! We ordered the pork meatballs, kalimeris indica (a special vegetable) with tofu, chicken marinated in Chinese wine, pork trotters fried with salt and pepper, bok choy in broth, and fried eels with shrimp . I would like all the dishes except the fried eels with shrimp because I could tell the eel wasnt fresh so it was cooked greasy and tasted sour - thats definitely not the way it would be made in Shanghai cuisine. Fortunately, the other dishes were very good and quite authentic! But remember that the price is quite high too. The service and atmosphere wasnt bad - Id give it 4 stars. I dont know if I would come back, but it was a good experience.
The rice dumplings with glutinous rice and sweet-scented osmanthus syrup after the meal are good.
Terrible service, waiter was asked to check on a dish that hadn t come out some how even after asking him to check on it, the kitchen didn t get the order
all the waitresses and even the boss were so dark faces. very unpleasant experience.
Fortunately, there is such a restaurant with Shanghainese cuisine in Burnaby. The price/performance ratio is good and parking is convenient.
Although the food is not expensive, the portion is too small. The ingredients are not very fresh. I thought it was leftover squirrel grouper from someone elses fried noodles. The squirrel grouper looked very big and was exhausted after just two bites. The hot and sour soup was only salty but not sour. Its not spicy. Its the only soup dumpling thats good. I dont recommend it. Im too lazy to take photos. Please avoid lightning.
Awesome, authentic Shanghaiese restaurant that checks every flavor box. You will not believe the variety of dishes available; try something you wouldn t usually order! You won t be disappointed.
Consistently good quality and never disappoints. This place might be partially considered as a hole in the wall, as its very unnoticeable but either way its definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurants around town.
Pretty good Shanghai style dim sum with specialties not normally served in Vancouver
Above average Shanghainese restaurant, lots of parking spaces.
Very good
We came for lunch on a weekend. Not a lot of people when we arrived but afterwards people started piling in after 11:30. We ordered the drunken chicken, fried pork buns, steamed pork buns, Dan Dan noodles, stir fried Shanghai rice cakes with veggies and deep fried sweet and sour fish. The drunken chicken tasted pretty strong of alcohol but the chicken lacked chicken flavour. It was very bland. Very smooth and soft but very bland. The fried pork bun were okay. Not as good as the ones you find st crystal mall. There was a lot of soup, skin wasnt too thick but the meat was too tough. The soup was very sweet but tasted a bit too much like msg. The steamed pork buns had the same soup as the fried pork bun soup and the same meat as well. The skin broke too easily on these The Dan Dan noodles were probably one of the most underwhelming Dan Dan noodles Ive had. There was very little peanut flavour. The sauce was way too watery and soupy. There was very little noodle. Definitely avoid this dish The stir fried Shanghai rice cakes with veggies were VERY SALTY. the rice cakes were over cooked not much chew left. There also wasnt enough of the veggies. Definitely avoid this dish. Deep fried sweet and sour fish was another disappointing dish. Fried till not crispy but almost hard. The sauce didnt have enough ketchupy sweet flavour but instead it was more on the sour side. The fish itself had a very strong seafoody taste (in a bad way). Avoid this dish Overall way more misses than hits. Unfortunately because there arent many Shanghai options in this area, this restaurant is one of your only options. The food portions are small but their prices are also lower than others. Flavours across the board were not very good. Wouldnt recommend this place
Tiny portion dishes. A lot of dishes on the menu are out of stock. Slow service
Delicious food! Kids loves it so much, everything is yummy!
Very good
THE XIAO LONG BAOS WERE SO GOOD! I RECOMMEND AS A CITIZEN WHP HAS COME HERE HER ENTIRE LIFE!!
Food is better but smaller, service is good, parking lot full easy. The best deal is the large won ton chicken soup, good enough for whole table of 8. The special Bbq duck is a must have. It is the traditional Shanghaiese food restaurant.
Good quality Shanghai food in the area, consistent over multiple visits. Quite busy/popular in the area so make a reservation during peak hours. Small note: soup noodles are only served during daytime, not nighttime. Will be back soon in the future.
There are good and bad
It s delicious. The local dishes I ve eaten in Shanghai are all on the sweet side. The taste here has been slightly adjusted. I didn t expect that Vancouver can also eat dried Malantou. The vinegared jellyfish is so delicious. I miss it. The portions here are not small, the taste is authentic, and the price is not expensive. It is suitable for gatherings.
Not as good as before.
Authentic Shanghai style food. Highly recommend it! Wouldve been a better experience if the ladies next table refrained from talking in very high volume. Worse still, the management did nothing about it until they were gone.
The food was pretty tasty; however, the server was quite rude. Note that the restaurant seems to serve mostly larger groups, while the smaller tables (we were a group of 3) are mostly hidden at the back.
Wanted to have a nice Asian Cuisine Dinner, while in Burnaby, BC, BUT, TURNED AWAY , asked to come back later.(1 hour) From what I saw, 1/2 empty tables, BECAUSE this restaurant was predominantly Asian clientele, I m WHITE, and everyone starred when I walked in, we DID NOT RETURN. I would RATE THIS LOCATION ZERO !
Not seeing anyone post a photo of their eel dishes. It is wonderful. The meat is firm and well seasoned.
The service is terrible at this place. I use to order food here from time to time coz the food is tolerable from a local shanghainese point of view. Today I went to pick up food that I ordered 3 hours ago at the due time but the servers couldn t find my food neither my order. They left me there unexplained and when confronted they said they are gonna make it. I was in a hurry so I asked when I can come back to pick up but they wouldn t give me a time just keep telling me it s fast and that I m crazy to think order will be ready at the reserved time then the interesting thing happened, the lady who I think is the manager or owner-affiliated started shouting at me in shanghai dialect. Imagine if I didn t know the language how would I feel about that that s darn rude and arrogant. When she s done I shouted back in shanghai dialect for an estimated time for pick up what the heck was that?! It s a simple mistake just apologize and fix it. What makes you think you are better than your customers?! Will not come back to be treated like inferior again.
