4603 Kingsway #6, Burnaby, BC V5H 4L3, Canada
Straightforward Japanese restaurant serving sushi, sashimi & hot entrees like teriyaki & tempura.
The daily specials are amazingly fresh and this place is legitimately Japanese. Sure, Stem, Minami, Tozen, Guu or Sushihil are the top sushi/Japanese places in the lower mainland but l'd argue that Isami's food quality is just as good. The difference is they just don't have a social media presence or honestly care about their reviews. Their presentation is basic but it's a true hidden gem. The interior looks a little dated on the inside but my wife and I love this place. Reminded us of real Japanese restaurants in Japan, homey and delicious. Get their ootoro, wagyu nigiri or uni and tell me it isn't on par with the freshness you'd get from the more expensive places in Vancouver, you'd be lying. This place is awesome, arigato gozaimasu, Isami!!!
Waited almost 30 mins to get my phone take out order for 2 simple rolls with poor presentation and avg taste. Called at 12:07 and was told the food will be ready in 5 mins. I even repeated 5 mins seems to be quick and they confirmed. Arrived approx 15 mins later and was told I had to wait another 10 mins when the restaurant is mostly empty. The food seems to be prepared in a hurry and they almost forgot my miso soup. Finally got my food around 12:35 ish. Disappointed in the presentation and service. Flavor is average, seafood taste too mushy.
Some food is good and some food are just so so. Una-ju is great but the roll was not good. The servers were very busy so it's very hard to get their attention. No free parking outside (there's a parking lot but the gate is always closed)
The food here was incredibly good! 5 Stars from me for their everything!
Authentic japanese restaurant Taste is average For price better check before ordering as price on menu is not updated I wanted to order Beef dinner set, price listed on menu is $33.5 but when I want to order served said it’s $50 I asked how many oz of beef she can’t tell me It’s a big jump in price so I go for Tokyo cut stir fried beef at $13.5 - a bit too salty Otori sashimi $25 for 3 pcs of fish Otori sushi $15 each piece The tofu in tofu dinner set is good There’s a hand cone menu which was hidden need to ask them before they will show you Works out to be $50+ per person only order basic food with no drinks and not much seafood Free parking behind the restaurant in parkade Register plate with server
It’s an authentic Japanese sushi place. The menu was vast with lots of sushi options. The BC roll was particularly tasty with charred salmon skin flavor. The Uni nigiri was creamy and sweet and the fried chicken was freshly fried and pretty tasty. The rest of the items we tried were very average. We tried the deluxe assorted sashimi and the portions were small, the fish didn’t taste the freshest, and the overall taste was just okay. The shrimp and vegetable tempura could have been crispier on the outside. The oyster, seafood, and scallop motoyakis tasted standard. The drinks were standard average as well. The service was basic and you needed to ask and advocate for yourself to get tea refills. Overall, a standard average sushi experience.
Came with a group and got to sample a variety of items for dinner. The soft shell crab was fantastic and still maintained its sweetness. The fish tasted fresh, notably the salmon. I thought the rolls could have been a bit larger; they look tall in the photo, but the fillings didn't extend to the bottom of the rolls. I also thought the BBQ squid could have had a bit more of a char and smokier taste. The BBQ flavour came primarily from the sauce. Overall, it was a good meal. The donburis would be the best deal, with an appetizer or other roll to fill out a meal. Service was great, and the staff consistently came around to refill water/tea. Would come back!
It’s been a while since I last visited Isami Sushi but I had made a special trip to the Metrotown area so I could try the new Soft Peaks location and figured it’d be a good idea to stop off for some sushi while I was at it. While their address is on Kingsway, this Japanese restaurant is actually located around the corner on McKay Avenue. I ordered the Special Assorted Sushi ($16) which includes a tuna roll as well as 9 pieces of various nigiri sushi. They do a really good job with their fresh fish here and the temperature was perfect. The chef’s selection of nigiri included real crab, ikura, tobiko, tuna, salmon, hamachi, scallop, and ebi. If you’re looking for a solid sushi place around the Metrotown area, check out Isami Sushi. Update: Mar 2024. It's been another 5 years since our last visit here. Glad to see the food was still good. Their lunch menu isn't as big as I remember it to be. Ordered the chicken teriyaki and the unatama roll (unagi and tamago) which was nice and creamy. Fresh assorted sashimi with scallop, tuna, salmon, hokkaigai, and maybe tai or madai? Finished our meal with appetizer tempura and spinach gomae. Food came out fast and quality was good.
Authentic looking Japan restaurant. But The food is stale, not fresh, I caught a diarrhea right after eating
Been going here for +10 years. Great sushi for reasonable prices.
Item tasty and price reasonable.
This is a cozy Japanese restaurant that I went to after being recommended by a Japanese friend! Although the restaurant is small, there are plenty of places to sit and it seemed perfect for eating alone or with two people! For food, I had sushi rolls and tempura udon, and it was clean and delicious! The staff were all friendly, and it was interesting to be able to see sushi being made at the sushi bar. If you are looking for a quiet, cozy, and clean Japanese restaurant, I recommend this place!!
Went there two times, the place is good. I decided to go today, there was this note written on the door that says they are closed for 4 days. While on google maps it showed they are open, at least change your timings to temporarily closed , such a waste of time.
Absolutely greatest quality of sushi for the $$ in Burnaby by far
Dynamite roll was really good, Ika karaage was foul, dry, and no dipping sauce, Tempura had no tempura batter on it and a super watery dipping sauce. Deep fried Gyoza was terrible, very dry and tasted almost freezer burnt. $66.00 and throwing more than half of it away. Food : 1/5
Very good sushi along with a decently authentic menu.
Very good sushi arguably top 3 in all of metro vancouver. Service is good but at times slow. Highly recommend the food! Returned to fantastic food and service. Food
Just came back from a trip to Japan and this place felt pretty close to what Ive tasted and experienced there. Only down side are the vancouver prices which is understandable. Their karrage was delicious and the tonkatsu Don was filling ! Will definitely come back !
Very good food, nice staff and comfortable seats! Average pricing but above average taste and care. Unatama roll was my favorite here.
I had a disappointing experience at this sushi spot. The quality of the sushi was below average, and I felt stomach discomfort afterward. Additionally, the service left much to be desired the servers and chefs both appeared unhappy and unenthusiastic. I would recommend Taiyu Ichiba nearby, which offers a much better experience. Our experience at this sushi restaurant was disappointing. The quality of the sushi was below average and I felt some stomach discomfort after eating it. Additionally, the service was dissatisfying, with both the staff and the chef looking grumpy and unmotivated. A much better experience can be found at the nearby Tairyo Market.
Traditional atmosphere...real Japanese staff and owner... Authentic... Just wished the proportions were a little bit more.... It was yummy though ;). My menu prices as of end of Aug/2024
save place
Price a bit too high
Super good food and friendly staff
An old shop for many years, opened by Japanese, the taste is good
Smiling waitress welcomes you. Tasty foods. What more can I say. Food : 5/5
Had an odd interaction with the server where she tried to suggest that I pay for something that I didnt order. Otherwise, the food was fine, but left with an unpleasant and weird experience.
This place is absolutely fantastic. The sushi is excellent and very very affordable for the rolls. Would come back here again and again.
What a gem, lucky to have this authentic Japanese restaurant in Burnaby!
Just really good
It is a great place for casual Japanese food with reasonable prices. All chefs and cool are skillful, and it is a cozy place to have a meal
Friendly staff. Easy to get a table
Great food, great people, very fresh and reasonably priced
This place is garbage. They charge standard prices but give you tiny portions. $20 for a plate of 6 tiny salmon sashimi pieces. Rolls are thin and you only get 5 pieces. Shrinkflation at its finest. Go to any other sushi place in the area and get more for your money instead of getting scammed here.
Cozy restaurant. Great quality of fish.
We love this place but the broken speaker crackling every min is annoying as hell. Show the restaurant does not care about their clients or staff. Hope this gets to the owner
My friend I enjoyed our sushi experience here. Japanese owned sushi restaurant that was very authentic. Excellent service and food to match.
Place has gone downhill. Not sure if its the chefs... food just wasnt as tasty as before. Ordered the dinner sets. Wasnt worth the price for sure. Service was also subpar. The older staff were still there and provided good service, but the new highers were not good. Most of the time they just stood around and chatted. Did not make their rounds topping off teas and waters... etc.
My favorite sushi place in Burnaby.
An old Japanese restaurant located in the center of Burnaby. It has a variety of Sushi, rice bowls, and cooked food with high CP values. Among them, the fried food is of a high standard. There is also a Japanese chef sitting at the bar to handle high-end food preparation. It is a good choice for family gatherings or business lunches. The disadvantage is that although sushi is delicious, it has been improved to suit local tastes. In addition, some Japanese waiters have poor English skills, and it is easy to communicate poorly when asking for orders; Finally, the decoration is a bit old and it doesnt feel fresh, so I gave it a conservative three stars. But I will definitely dine there again if I have the chance.
Everything is so fresh and tasty, fair price, perfect service
The food at this restaurant has steadily improved over the years
Delicious food and very friendly staff. I felt like I was in Japan!! Food
The only waiter is a racist!!!! When we arrived, he led us to the table by the door but 5 tables for 2 are empty inside. My friend asked could we get a table inside. He said no! Saying all booked. When we said we booked one. He never checked who we are and gave us one. Just left and let us sit with no menu no water for 10 mins ??? What s worse, other white people came in, he led them to an inner table??????? Waitresses are all great and apologized for not giving us water and menus.
Food was decent but the lunch box portions were very small.
Amazing sashimi but I almost choked on my Ebi Su when I heard the staff talking about me in Japanese
The spicy salmon and tuna rolls are an absolute bargain. The fish isnt minced which makes it top notch in my opinion.
Ethan was the best server! He was so quick with getting us everything we needed. A+ dinning experience. However I wish there were more vegan options.
A gem in the sea of restaurants that offer sushi located in Burnaby. A must for sashimi lovers.
Their heat was so high it was very stuffy but apparently its a central system so they were unable to change it. The food is mediocre and the portions are small. My 6 years old daughter finished the entire udon and had to ask for more food.
Isami is my go-to sushi place, nice service and a cozy mood! Sushi is so fresh, especially nigiri is super nice:) In summer I highly recommend soba Food
Please be careful. When you choose to pay a 10% tip for consumption in 2022, the store charges nearly 13% tip on its own without informing you that the customer has already charged a 13% tip on its own. We did not know the situation and paid another 10% tip. Therefore, a total of 23 tips were collected by the store. Everyone should pay attention to whether the amount of their consumption is correct. If the store is dishonest, choose to refuse to spend. It was obviously 43.75 but it was charged 51.45, handwritten order
Poor quality food and very expensive, It was a bad experience
authentic Japanese sushi place. Best one, Tuna belly and salmon nigiri melt in your mouth. Service is always great!
The service is nice, the servers explain and are patience with you even if you don t understand the menu, very good food ! I will come back
Very fresh seafood and friendly service! One of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to!
Friends introduced us to this place. They have Great food and we re about to come back for our third visit!
Thought it d be pretty good restaurant. But disappointed with the quality and the presentation. Not worthy for the price.
lol please update your hours, I showed up just before 9:00pm since it said it was open till 10pm. I came inside, the guy saw me and didn t say anything till 5 minutes later, then told me they were closed.
Amazing food! Amazing service! If you want quality authentic Japanese food Sushi master Sam will take you on a gastronomical journey. Worth the wait during the busy dinner rush, ask for Sam s secret special.
Very good service, foods are fresh and delicious!
We left the restaurant with a half full and upset stomach because the sushi was incredibly bad imo dont attack me .. the names sound very appetizing but the look and the taste didnt carry the same energy. We had california roll and spicy tuna roll and sukiyaki udon. The rolls were... as I said above I dont want to upset the owner or anyone who have to read this review, the udon was okay I will give it a thumbs up to cheer the owner up caring staffs tho I love Japanese service
Isami has been my go-to Japanese restaurant for the past couple years now, as I refuse to eat at Chinese owned/operated Japanese restaurants anymore (like Sushi Garden---yuck!) Isami is owned by actual Japanese and their food is fairly consistent, fresh and very tasty. I have yet to have a bad eating or dining experience there. Keep up the good work Isami Thanks!
Really good sushi. I would recommend. Top quality sashimi. Service was lacking though. Just all inexperienced kids working there I think.
First time trying it out. The server was not very knowledgeable about the menu and had no idea about what was available. Service was surprisingly Mediocre for a Japanese managed restaurant... a bit disappointed. Food is ok but nothing to be too excited about. Prices are ok, not too expensive and portion sizes were ok. But unlikely to return for a 2nd visit.
Japanese owned with Japanese chefs serving sushi. Lovely service. Fresh ingredients.
Love it and go there all the time
Really good sushi and the miso soup is amazing, really good quality and price and friendly staff
It is Ok. I don t understand why so many people say they waited forever for their order. We got our orders pretty quickly. I wish they have black rice option. All of their maki sushi we ordered (salmon, chicken, avocado) came in 6 pieces instead of the traditional 8 pieces which was kinda sad. The spicy salmon roll was not spicy at all. Too much mayonnaise. I like that their chicken teriyaki roll had veggies in it. Good for the kids. Though, why does the avocado roll contain mayonnaise (says in the menu)? Why would an avocado roll have mayonnaise?
Good sashimi, fast and friendly service, Uni and Toro available mid-week.
Great mom and pop, authentic Japanese restaurant. Great service and serving great sushi since the early 90s!
Good flavor, with a varied menu and excellent service and atmosphere.
Service is good. prices seem reasonable but the portion is real small
Said we want take out, given menu, waited 10min, told will take 1hour. 4 rolls dont take an hour. Have better service and dont waste time.
took an hour and a half to get food on the table
Worest experience ever!! Very bad! Expensive and not tasty, and food very little!
This place is a hidden gem. If you want an authentic sushi with affordable prices, this is probably one of the few places that meet that criteria. The place is run by Japanese and is well staffed. The attitude is excellent (as youd always expect from Japanese business) and they refill your tea diligently (good tea also). What surprised me is the prices of food (I primarily go for nigiri and some rolls) they still maintain while every other sushi place increased their prices substantially including supposedly cheap eats like Sushi Garden. If you are in the area, theres never a reason to ever pick cheap sushi places unless you prefer fusion type of sushi with lots of sauces. The quality of fish at Isami is above Sushi Garden, although its a tier below some other authentic sushi places such as Toyo in North Burnaby (but youre paying almost double for nigiri). The prices are on par with Sushi Garden or any other cheap sushi places run by Korean/Chinese. Huge props to this place.
Love it!
Never pick up their call. Impossible to order take out
I love this place. Great food and kind of a nostalgic 90s Japanese restaurant vibe (someone was saying the decor could be updated and personally I hope it never is).
Service is slow here despite them being so nice. They just cant get food out fast enough, it comes out 1 at a time like Im having omakase. Overall food is just average compared to other places around.
The Special Combination dish with SirLoin steak and Prawn Tempura was out of this world! The meat was super tender and juicy...I came for the Japonese food but will come back for their juicy steak!
On May 9, an inspector visited and shut them down. Tried to have lunch here on May 10 but saw the notice taped to their door. Pretty bad when its a sushi place that serves raw food. Look up Isami on the Fraser Heath website, theyve had repeated infractions.
Isami is one of my favorite sushi places in the lower mainland and has been for several years now, everything is always super fresh and amazing. I was more excited to move to this neighborhood because they were close, theyre kind of an understated gem. Definitely somewhere I would recommend to take guests - I love the chirashi bowl in particular!
Slow service and sushi was just ok. Yaki soba was very bland.
Please check your bill carefully, otherwise you may pay excess amount. I went to Isami Sushi for dinner last night. I was really shocked when I settled the bill. The bill was more than expected. Since Isami wrote the bill by hand, I checked the relief bill and found that Yaki Ika (grilled squid) was compared to the menu price. [I charged too much. added extra Cad$6.5 At the same time, someone painted over the original price of the relief bill, Cad$13.5, with correction fluid, and then wrote $20. In fact, we have been diners at Isami for 3 years, and we often order Yaki Ika. The price is always the same as the menu price, so when we asked why, a male person in charge actually took the handwritten order and said to us very rudely: Because the squid we ate today was bigger than usual! Shocked, we were shocked and angry. 1 On the one hand, we didn t think the squid tonight was particularly big. Strictly speaking, sometimes our squid was just the normal size. In the past, the squid we ate sometimes were bigger than this, but never [price starts from the floor] There may be a [seafood price] price. 2 The menu None specifically stated the market price. It said that the size of the squid was too big. They suddenly added money without making it clear to us in advance. You can add as much as you want (if added extra $30) Or do you have to pay $40?). When explaining, they often asked us if we thought the squid was bigger. By the way, if the squid was smaller than usual, would the price be reduced? We only talk about paying the bill, as if we are not willing to give more money, which is wrong! We have been loyal fans of Isami for the past three years. This time, it is like [Mou Renji] to randomly increase the menu price . It is really disappointing. I believe we will not patronize Isami again!!!
Food is good, but service took forever. I had to follow up twice and wait 40 minutes; all I ordered was a chirashi don. Tables around us which were seated after us got their food first. Staff are nice, but system is not good.
Horrible experience for a first-timer here. We went to get 1 order of Chicken Karaage for to go, they gave us the menu and we waited for 30 minutes. Only to find out they haven t started preparing our to-go food, because apparently, they were waiting for the payment!! And then we waited again for another 10 minutes and we followed up, was told we will be getting our food right now . Waited again . then we asked how long will it take more? Was told 10 more minutes ! Meaning they have not started to prepare the food, AT ALL! Really unacceptable! They acted as if they do not care!!! If we had not followed up, we were waiting on the table like idiots, waiting for nothing. We spent about 45 minutes here waiting for just ONE order of their Chicken Karaage!! Their Chicken karaage was also expensive. They really wasted our time!!!
Japanese grilled favourites and sushi in a casual environment.
Food is tasty, but the service is very slow, we finished 3 rolls, bentos and tempura and one order of chicken katsu still not ready.
My favorite Japanese restaurant in Metrotown. Authentic, Japanese owned and operated. Reasonable prices. I had Chirashi $21.50. Miso soup actually tasted like miso soup, not like colored hot water if you know what I mean.
My friend brought me here as she worked nearby, and the sushi is tasty. We also like the miso soup and the rice is well done. The price is a little bit higher compared to the sushi nearby, but considering the service, taste, and vibes, it is worth it.
Very old school and a whole in the wall, but lovely in that it is away from the mall. The restaurant is a bit run down. But the food felt authentic. Japanese owned I think. Great price for the portions. We spent $60 something for 3 people, including 2 beers!
over 25 years ago So I dont know if its the same owner, but he was trained all over Japan and was very knowledgeable about sushi from all over Japan. The crab sushi was surprisingly delicious.
This was my beef tataki salad which costed $15 it s no bigger than a baby s palm. And they either forgot to give me sauce or it doesn t come with any. It was tasteless. A photo of someone else s beef tataki salad from Isami for comparison and mine with a soy sauce packet for size comparison
Closed 1 hour before scheduled
Delicious sushi, very fresh and great atmosphere. Salmon cheek was sooo good!
The food is decent albeit on the smaller side in terms of portioning. Despite having three rolls which would usually fill me up, I still felt relatively hungry after dining. Service can be shifty at times when theyre busy.
First time here, service is ridiculously slow We had to wait at least 15mins for each dish to be served. We ordered the bbq black cod on the board, taste is good but it charged $25 and it was a small potion.
We ordered Salmon Mango role, California role, Rainbow role, and Dinamit role. They were all amazing and fresh, the staff were polite and friendly, well come back again for sure!
Super delicious, quality and price were good. I will definitely be back.
Service was great, food was okay. Not super fresh but not bad. Decent place for the price.
Went before a movie: it was fast and tasty!
Great service. Friendly staff. Amazing sushi!
Food was mediocre and service was pretty inattentive.
I had great attentive service and good chirashi don. The miso soup was also better than I expected. Nice place; will come again.
The food has been much better in the past, not having wild sockeye while in season on the west coast is kinda strange and a lot down.
Lots should be said for homestyle authentic food. The food is simple and delicious, highest quality ingredients. They make every dish 10% better than most. Great food, great company great night!
Our server didnt speak English and we had difficulty asking questions about the menu. She brought us a dish we didnt order and charged the full price for it. The water they serve is disgusting, I only sipped it and just couldnt take it anymore. They must have very bad quality of tap water and serving for customers without any filter. I had salmon sashimi and it was disgusting. It stinks a lot... The rolls were not even properly wrapped and it just fall off everything. I used this restaurant a couple times before but Im not coming back!!
Great food. Just never seem to be open when I want sushi.
The fish on shush isn t fresh, it s sour!
The taste is ok but I have no idea why the service is so bad They didnt come to ask me anything, and they didnt know what the menu was about, so they responded too roughly
Taste, presentation and service leaves much to be desired. In my 25 years of living here and eating sushi I have never had such a bad experience. My gf and I went here for the first time and will certainly not be back. The rolls were small and cheaply made. the fish didn t seem fresh. We had Wakame salad which included actual lettuce which was confusing and the taste was off- we did not eat. Dishes took way too long and they brought our appetizers last- not to mention they forgot part of our order. When we complained about the quality of the tuna tataki we were told we didn t know what we were talking about. The manager who was an older woman was very angry with us and fought us over the dish- before a chef rudely yelled at our table from across the restaurant to just take it back!! And no apologies were made. No way to run a business. They then proceeded to ignore our service needs and gave us glares making my gf spiral into a panic attack. The only some of food was edible. But we barely ate and still paid 32$ for basically no food.
Horrible service! Felt like our service staff didn t really care of our orders. We weren t asked for tea/water, while the service staff went across other tables serving the same. While the service was quick, the service staff didn t really enquire or take follow up orders. The entire situation seemed quite rushed and bizzarre. Hopefully this was a bad day and not a norm.
The food is great, however the service can be slow at times but they are super friendly! They make the best rolls. Sometimes the nigiri have a lot of wasabi in them so if you dont like wasabi, ask them to go easy on it.
Lunch box portions are on the small side, but only for 15 bucks hard to ask for more.
Great of little homey Japanese restaurant serving all your basic needs. Great service, tatami tables available. Food
Fantastic authentic food!
Great food. Been there many times. But last time I was there I ordered wagyu nigiri, which came out to be $24 for 2 pieces. I ve never had thin aburi wagyu slices this expensive, not even when I was in Kobe. The taste wasn t even exceptional to justify the price. I was a bit shocked, to be honest. But other than that, food was on-point like usual.
Good customer service. Since it s a Wednesday night, not very busy, my friend and I we spent 2 hours there and no one ever rushed us. They kept offering us green tea to a point where I had to go to washroom twice. sashimi is fresh!
A hidden gem, everything I order are fresh and tasty. Will comeback to try more.
Very tasty. Decent prices.
Got a take out from this place the other night just as it was about to close. Wonderful people behind the counter, very authentic feel and excellent quality rolls and sashimi. A nice little neighborhood gem.
Love the Robata!
The most amazing clam miso soup. Very local and authentic.
Good portion with the price, fresh and nice service too
Love this place, definitely a place worth visiting for sushi lovers.
Excellent menu unique items cant get this variety anywhere very fresh, great servers
Honestly, their food looks regular. Nothing fancy, but the taste is just fantastic. Also not overpriced like some other Japanese owned restaurants. Definitely earns my 5 stars. This one is probably one of my favorites
Japanese staff and delicious sushi. Theyre all so kind and welcoming
This sushi place is such a gem! We stayed at the hotel next door and pretty much come here every week, its that good and the price is very reasonable too. The sashimis are always fresh and good quality. Theres a wide selection of other items like chicken skewers, butter seared scallops. They also have special menu that changes every now and then, the aburi sushi combo is our favourite. Highly recommend trying this place out if youre nearby.
This is the best sushi in Vancouver hands down and thats saying something. Unless infinite money to buy fine dining sushi every day, do yourself a favour and easy here. They have great prices and great special rolls Ive never seen anywhere else.
The worst bento boxes ever, chicken was dry and burned, it had no flavour, vegetable tempura was raw, salad had no dressing it was only dry lettuce and the California rolls were very soggy almost like there were in the fridge for a couple days. Never again will we be ordering from this Restaurant.
Comfort sushi
Consistently great food, both dine-in and take-out. This is our favourite of the numerous sushi/Japanese restaurants in the area.
Good service and decent authentic food
Nice place to eat. When theyre open. Seems like theyre closed all the time though. And theres no way to know until you show up and theres a handwritten note on the door apologising for being closed, again.
Love this place! Isami is my first experience with sushi (decades ago) and hasnt disappointed me ever since. Thank you for continuing on even during these difficult times. See you again soon.
Simply put.. Making my 4yr old son wait 55mins for an order of chicken karaage is absolutely unacceptable. 40mins for a Cali roll.. absolutely brutal. There are just sooooo many other places to go then ISAMI. Avoid this place like the plague. Cant even proofread the menus. Servers are nice. But when the food is this bad... It cant be redeemed.
Artfully prepared, fresh, and tasty albeit pricey sushi. Only one complaint: the everpresent sriracha, not overdone however.
Best sushi I ve ever had in Toronto! This spot is under rated and needs to be on top 10 places to eat in Toronto. Stumbled upon this and decided to give it a go. Their udon noodle soup is amazingggggg and the hako pressed sushi I could eat every day. Must try!
It was good. The place was not overwhelmingly busy and the staff was friendly. The sashimi wasn t fishy and the green tea they had was nice. The prices are not expensive considering the quality of the fish. Would definitely choose this place over the other sushi places in the area!! Dining in makes a difference from take out.
Sat down really fast. Waited for an hour for food to appear. All we got was a miso soup. Had to ask for tea refill , water refill. After an hour asked again for our order and still didn t get our food. So just ended up cancelling it. Went to sushi garden instead. It s especially angering when you see the kitchen pump out food but its not coming to your table for a hour.
Food is so good but the server is so rude. They charged us more our bill is $74 but they charged $90.And my friend did not give tip while billing but the lady said in a rude way THIS IS CANADA YOU HAVE TO TIP and she canceled the transaction and asked us to re do the payment she don t want to pass the bank machine to us to enter tip she want to enter the tip by herself, at last ended up paying $10 tip. We have got the cash back for the extra charge but I never forget that ladies behaviour.
Had the Eskimo roll, was very good.
This is my constant sushi place from last 1 year . Best vegetarian sushi, healthy and simple. Prices are affordable as well. Servers are really polite and sweet. Fast service, delicious taste. I love their complimentary green tea as well. Thank you team for such a yummy food and great service every time.
Top scores for this sushi restaurant. Great food. Some decor updates are likely needed; but that adds to the charm. Such friendly and polite service is nice to experience. Prices are fair for the quality. Will visit again.
5 minutes walk from Metrotown Station. The price is reasonable and the taste is not bad.
Some of the best sushi Ive had in Burnaby. Lovely and quant interior with fantastic service.
My most favourite sushi restaurant of all time! My now wife and the mother in LW have been coming here for decades almost honestly, and I was brough
The food is good, but service can be slow. Nonetheless, they are very friendly! They make the best negitoro roll (as you can see, we couldnt wait to eat it). Some of the nigiri have a lot of wasabi in it, so fair warning if you dont like wasabi, ask for less!
The best sushi place ever in Vancouver!! The uni was soooooo fresh n all other foods are super yummy!! Definitely come here again soon!
Really poor service, unimpressed.
Wow.. The food is absolutely delicious. We have been wanting to go back to Japan but going here definitely is the next best thing. We ordered salmon, tuna and BBQ eel roll, beef udon, and chicken karage (boneless) and everything was so delicious!! I feel so lucky to have found this place. If I ever come back to Burnaby, this place is a no brainer to come back to. Two suggestions if dining in, make a reservation as this place gets packed and bring a jacket as the AC is blasted (we sat near the window).
The wait time is ridiculous. Waste of life and waste of money. Food is mediocre.
Came in 7:15 Sat Aug 27th, dining for one Put my name down on their list but other people got sat before me with no explanation just wait a little longer . Finally got a seat. Ordered 3 food items at 7:30pm. First two came within about 20 minutes, but third item never came. No server came to check on me at any point. Flagged someone down, they said it s on its way. Same thing happened again a few minutes after that. Finally at 8:20, I said sorry but it s time for me to go. The sever said sorry I guess they forgot and then kept apologizing I m sure their food is very good. But the service is atrocious.
immaculately cozy vibe, sweet and friendly service, and so far it had some of the better fish Ive had in the metrotown area. negative reviews seem silly.
My go-to spot for sushi! Japanese owned, delicious, good quality sushi rolls!
This place has very delicious traditional and new school menu items. Also, they have two spacious private rooms for family and friends to eat. Traditional japanese style seating. But its the best by far.
poor service.
Great sushi, wait time for food was a bit long but the staff was kind and accommodated us.
I had a terrible experince with one server. Me and my friends had couple of drinks. When I paid, I accidently push the wrong button and tip didnt go through. The server, who is about the middle-aged lady who was in charge for closing on Sep.22, she said to me, this is Canada and it is 15%~20% tips that you are supposed to pay. I got so angry but I still wanted to be polite so I asked server how much you want, and she said it was supposed to be a over $7 ans wrote down how much she wanted. What a great customer service. Highly recommend not going there. I never had such an experience like before.
Very average or below average food quality.
We went with a group of 10, with reservation etc, it was insanely slow to get food. Parts of the meal took 2 hours and 15 mins to arrive. It messed up our plans for the rest of the night, and members of our party were extremely hungry (getting food from friends whod gotten some food) the whole time. Used to like this place, but seems to have slipped lately.
Wait for more than 40mins for ONE roll! And cancel another one!
Waiting so long for food, and the food is so-so. The portion is so small.
Received only one item in our order. Sunomono salad was very small for the price and had a strange smoky taste so we did not even finish it. The rest of our order was obviously forgotten. Other tables sat, ordered, finished their food, and left while we waited and waited for over 40 more minutes. Our server was nowhere to be found, so had to flag down a different server to check on our food but received no response. Had to eventually stand up and walk around the restaurant to find our own server to explain. Rather than providing any explanation, she just promised 5 more minutes. 10 minutes later she brought the bill instead of our food ????????
Isami was so great! The food was amazing and the ambience was super cozy. I loved sitting in the back in the carpeted area. The service was great and the servers were very nice :)
I have been going to this restaurant almost from the time it opened. I will only go to this Japanese restaurant, they have earned my loyalty. The food is always fresh, the staff is always pleasant, + so kind. The prices are incredibly reasonable, considering the quality of food you are eating. They are incredibly passionate about what they do, + have high standards for customer service. Thank you Isami Sushi!
Disappointment. It used to be high quality assured. But now they use farmed salmon and dont tell you. So you have to ask if its important to you. They would never have done that in days gone by. They had high standards back then. Also, the crab that they use in the sunimono is snow crab, not dungeness like they used to. It s passable but it s not as good as dungeness. I realize that things change and costs get higher, but these substitutions aren t wise ones. The owners are lovely people and work extremely hard but they have been at it for a long time. The restaurant is looking rather dim and junky on the inside. Also they messed up our order. One of our party didnt get his order of sushi because they forgot to put it in. Also, the sunimono came out after our main course. So bad timing. But these things happen. I would definitely go back but I would keep these menu deficiencies in mind.
Excellent
Parking available in visitor parking. Hidden authentic gem. Reserve if youre going on a busy night. Solid taste and food. Service is great. There are big tables available for large size parties.
very expensive for average sushi, not to mention the portions were so little.. I cannot express the little part enought. I ordered a plate of salmon sashimi that was $17.50 and it came out in a little tea plate..
Nothing amazing. Cozy decor that reminded me of my travels in Japan. Decently priced. Had a piece of plastic in my sashimi which wasnt very pleasing. Would not revisit.
I been curious about this place for awhile and Im glad I tried it out. I enjoyed the food and service
I like their sushi! The taste is just like what I had in Japan. The tea was good ,too.
Definitely the best Sushi place around . The sushi , sashimi , its always so fresh and tasty . Always served on really nice dishes and well presented and prepared. Have been coming here for years ,never disappointed. I believe the owners still work it , the husband a sushi chef and the wife works the till and serves . I highly recommend, you should give it a try .You wont be disappointed.
Very good.
Wow!!! Quality and taste was superb! Totally recommend this place!
Simple and delicious sushi.
Great stuff. Fresh, affordable rolls both familiar and unique. Yakitori. Tako. Futomaki. All fantastic.
