Relaxed Japanese fare & sushi bar with classic rolls & sake in a stone house with wooden walls.
Service was quick and efficient but the sushi tasted odd. We ordered rolls and the rice was too wet and mushy for all the rolls. The negitoro roll tasted off and they did not put any green onions in it, which is the other component that makes up half the taste of this roll, how can they not put any in it? Their deep fried rolls are still fried well but that did not save it from the mushy wet rice. Overall the quality of the sushi here has gone down but the service is still good.
this is a takeout review (we ordered online). For context, we have dined in here for special occasions like mother’s day last year so I recall service being good (fast). Ever had #sushi for breakfast? Me neither, until today! Party tray #takeout dinner has my faves like 😋 kaki fry (oyster appetizer) 😋 beef #yakisoba (noods) 😋 shrimp sunomono (salad) The flower pic is a bouquet of fake (beautiful) flowers by the restaurant’s door! The last few pics are also good 😊 tonkatsu bento box (pork chop with rice and salad) 😊 shrimp and sweet potato #tempura 😊 agedashi tofu Recommend the yakisoba, and all their sushi.
3.5* rounded up. Nice large portions and fair prices. Highly recommend the lunch bento boxes, comes with miso soup, salad, tofu, California roll, tempora, and main dish (teriyaki, udon, or sashimi etc) and Don Katsu, which also comes with plenty of rice and generous portions of the katsu (fried breaded pork). Deluxe sashimi is thickly sliced and definitely worth the $30 price tag for the variety of different kinds of sashimi you get (3 thickly slices per kind). Las Vegas roll is also a personal favorite of mine. Taste has stayed consistent over the years, and the cream cheese enhances the taste without overpowering it. The only negative was that our table of 5 was tucked away in a corner and was relatively abandoned by the staff. Had to walk to the other side of the restaurant to flag someone down so we can place an order and/or when we needed more water. I don’t think we’ve had anyone to check in on us the entire time. I have a hunch that it’s due to understaffing, as there was only 1 waitress during the Sunday lunch time that we stayed. I personally recommend getting take out instead.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the big house gives it a cozy vibes. The service was great and the food came fast. Sushi was good and beef teryiaki was ok, but there will be a next time cause I want to try other menu items :)
Service was slow but the food made up for it. Server was nice and polite. Atmosphere is pretty different from most Sushi places in town and we've been around. Prices aren't cheap but aren't crazy expensive either. Would recommend.
The location is very cozy like a big traditional house. The sushi is mostly average to mediocre. The oyster motoyaki was a strange take compared to other restaurants. It did not come baked on an oyster shell, but instead in an aluminum dish and was a mix of fried oysters and what tasted like Caesar salad dressing baked together. It was kinda odd in flavour. The salmon and toro sashimi tasted ok but we have definitely had fresher cuts of fish. The mango veggie roll was cut super thin (picture enclosed) so it crumbled and disintegrated as soon as you lifted it up. The shrimp and yam tempura was good but came with very little sauce (picture enclosed) compared to other sushi restaurants that usually give you a dish half full for easy dipping. The Uni and Ikura nigiri was very tasty. No complaints for those. The chopped scallop inari was also very fresh tasting and a huge portion with great flavour and I would definitely recommend it. The inari was the best thing on the menu we tried. Overall, an average, non-Japanese and more Canadian tasting sushi place with a mix of hit or miss dishes.
Great service and food is delicious. Their specialties are worth the price. Happy hour starts at 9pm, clients get 15% off on all orders. I was disappointed with the dessert. Cake was freezer burnt.
The freshness of the ingredients truly shines through in every bite. The rolls were not only delicious but also beautifully presented, making the meal a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. The attention to detail in both taste and decoration is truly commendable. If you're a sushi lover, this place is a must-visit. I can't wait to return for another delightful meal!
Avoid this place at all costs. Worst food and service Ive ever had. Took 10 mins to get seated despite them only having 1 other table at the time. Food was inedible. Fish was spoiled, meats were over cooked, rice was too moist and chewy and anything deep fried was a mush. Literally everything tasted like they had nuked it in the microwave, nothing was fresh. We couldnt even finish more than a few bites. They made us pay first before eating and when we brought up the food quality, they argued that their food was perfect and said they couldnt refund us but offered us freezer burnt ice cream instead. I am shocked they are still in business. When the best thing on your menu is the pre-made Miso soup its time to close your doors... Lets see if I dont get food poisoning by tomorrow.
Vegetarian options: I had the Veggie Combo - it was a generous portion! Food
I heard tons of bad stories about treating staffs really bad but today I realized the owner family is really mean They treated me just like how they treat their workers even i am a customer. I didn t want to believe rumors but they were really rude Also, they forgot to give me a miso soup so I asked again Can i get a miso soup and they gave me the miso soup after we finished all foods we ordered The service was bad literally bad there is no service
This is a takeout order review: don t get me wrong they are great when dining in.. the food is delicious. I ve tried many different rolls. Takeout time sucks. They don t prioritize take out orders as they do in house obviously. But it makes most sense to close takeout when the restraint is busy and full My boyfriend and I ordered at 6:32 (as stamped in the photo of our order) and it s 7:29 and we ve been waiting a long time at the door while other intake out orders are also all behind and waiting Don t order take out they are so slow with it. Not worth it for waste of time.
Cooked food wasnt great. Sushi and rolls were good.
Went for lunch last Sunday. The food was terrible and I vomited when I got home. The food wasnt fresh, so avoid any raw food from this restaurant. Service wasn t the best, as she looked miserable while working. Will not come back. Food : 1/5
Not in this place, very bad service and they didnt want to change just one thing and started arguing for a small thing. We tried to order lots of different things and it was really bad service all the time and didnt want to change that.
We ordered a combination package but we didnt want any salmon.but the old wateriness said we could not change for salmon.we tried so many options but they were not willing to work with us .Then all four of walked out and they didnt care about losing the customer s.I would never recommend this place.
Poor ownership. Dont bother going this place. waste of time and money
Best sushi place in Vancouver. Great collection of sushi . My fav is one with Bonito . Excellent flavors. Fried sushi sandwich is just awesome. Not going anywhere else for sushi in burnaby Food
I loved this place. The good was really good and the service was kind and efficient. Somehow it looks like a fancy and expensive restaurant, but not expensive at all. I consider they have fair prices for what you get.
I recently visited your restaurant with a friend, and we both enjoyed our meals. However, I wanted to bring a concern to your attention regarding the food handling practices we observed during our visit. While we were eating, we noticed a staff member slicing salmon for sashimi, with another staff member standing nearby, and the two of them were talking to each other without wearing masks. This occurred right in front of the raw salmon, which we found to be unsanitary and concerning given the importance of hygiene in food preparation. We were disappointed to witness this, as it impacted our overall experience. We appreciate the quality of the food you offer, but ensuring that staff follow proper hygiene protocols is crucial, especially when handling raw food.
Really good yam roll and yam tempura and great service. Good prices too especially if you go after 9 pm for happy hour!!
The building is amazing,
Not delicious and slow to serve. But the portion is big
Dietary restrictions: First the corn is sour and rotten its totally disgusting. Next,Banboo Shoot is expired taste bad makes me feel weird. Lastly, the service is not very well received, while I tell them whats wrong with the noodles the waiter took it to the kitchen and bring the food back and said that its fine they said the corn is totally fresh same as the Banboo Shoot. I will not ever go to the restaurant again , totally disgusting for me.
Very pretty location and the sushi was great too at a really good price!
in the door they had a sign for 15% off friday night from 9 pm -11 pm . dine in and take out when i received my take out bill at 9:08 pm ,i asked if it was 15% off , the said they changed their menu so its different price , i asked if i can see what the new menu is like she was speechless , so i asked again about the 15% off , and then she said my order ( sashimi) was not included in the promotion. i believe this is false advertisement . no wonder the store was empty when i walked in to get my take out order.
Delicious, I went twice in one week
This is a neighborhood restaurant that has been around for the longest of time now, honestly leaving the 3 star review because each experience there has either been fabulous or terrible, based on basic restaurant hospitality standards. If you are craving some sushi dishes and not particularly picky, this is a sweet little place but lower the expectations. You would not be receiving the 4-5 star Michelin service but it is enough where you order, eat and pay. Just be sure to check your bill to see if they automatically add in tips or gratuity so you do not double pay in gratuity. There has been more and more times now where restaurants will slide in the tips during the payment time to ensure they get tips despite the lack of good service. Honestly, the tipping culture needs to stop and restaurants/service industry needs to remove the tipping segment and properly pay their employees their well deserved wages instead of asking customers to cover the lack of wages. Tipping culture stemmed from way back when of the slavery period, modern day now...we don t have that anymore so why is tipping still a thing?
the service is so bad. i ordered seconds before 9pm and asked if i could get the 9pm discount and they said yes. i confirmed with them multiple times and they gave me the food after 40 min (which is really a long time) and they charged me the full price. i argued and request their manager to deal with this and got ignored. will never come again.
I called 8:55pm for an take out order, waitress told me it s going to be ready in 30min. I thought when I pick up the order I would be getting the happy hour discount since it will be after 9pm. End up waiting for more than 40min, and when I was paying I asked if the discount has been applied, waitress told me I m not gonna be getting it since I ordered before 9pm even tho the order is ready way after 9pm I asked waitress to check and see if there s any way to fix this, cuz if I knew I would ve called 5min later if she told me on the phone earlier. She said sorry I can t, and was NOT trying to help at all. Didn t try to ask the manager, didn t offer any other options, just standing there not even looking at me but still having this hypocritical mean girl fake laugh on her face saying I can t help you. When I asked her if I can replace the order now she also said no. It s not about the 4$ money, I just don t like the way this waitress dealt with the problem. Clearly she had no intention of providing any customer service, then why did you taking this job? They paid you to help customers, not to ruin other ppl s mood
Sushi Oyama is a restaurant where you are served tasty food for a fair price(some plates like beef soba and salmon BBQ can serve 2) in an awesome place. The modern and cozy Japanese-style ambiance sets the restaurant above other restaurants. Their sushi is top-notch, made with fresh ingredients, with a good service, a great go-to.
I had food poisoning here and the female serving was rude dont come here.
We have been ordering from this restaurant many times. They have really big selection of specialized sushi rolls. Very nice place to dine in as well.
Waited 10 minutes no tea no one come to take my order. Rang the bell at least 5 times. I checked around at least 3 table have no tea and no sushi. I decided to leave
What has happened to Sushi Oyama, there used to be people queueing out the door and now theres only 20 people on a Saturday night? We arrived and waited forever to be seen, let alone seated. The chefs were head down having obviously seen us but were embarrassed about us not being seen to. In most Japanese restaurants all of the staff welcome you regardless of their role. We were seated opposite the bar which no longer had people sitting at it but had been turned into an clearing station eyesore reminiscent of a cheap take out place which would undoubtedly scare customers away. The platters for the high end sashimi orders had been wrapped in clingwrap and stacked on the shelves that once had exclusive sake and spirits. Service was appalling, the waitress couldnt understand anything, got the order wrong, didnt offer drinks, the miso soup didnt come until we asked near the end of the meal. The worst was I specifically asked whether what I had ordered had crab in it as I have an allergy, she responded, No, fake crab! which of course it wasnt, thankfully I didnt go to hospital but had a very uncomfortable night of nausea. The food was terrible, huge chunks, difficult to eat, unlike Japanese food, a huge disappointment to what wed experienced there before. It seems that new owners who previously had a take out have brought the place, likely costing them a fortune, and are in the process of running it into the ground losing all of their hard earned money. Ive seen this happen to other restaurants again and again. Eventually somebody will buy it for next to nothing and will resurrect the old Sushi Oyama but until that happens give it a wide berth and stay away like so many others have done. Or maybe somebody will sue them for an extreme allergic reaction to their fake crab... My suggestion to the owner. Youre obviously losing money, clean up the bar, employ experienced attentive staff, train them to upsell or cut your losses and put the place on the market.
Beautiful date spot!
All Oshi-s are great. Kids favourite sushi place.
Only tried the seafood salad as take out. It comes with a sauce that is quite salty. The fish werent that fresh and had that fishy taste to it. They were generous with the amount of fish though. The vermicelli was over cooked and more mushy. The amount of salad is much less than other places. Food
Really big portions when it comes to the bento boxes. Wish they had a vegetarian bento option. Nice spot for lunch!
Very delicious and fresh sushi and sashimi. The unissi was delicious and the staff was friendly and nice.
My new favorite spot in burnaby
Something has gone wrong with the service and quality it s not the same as it use to be. Restaurant is quiet but yet still have to flag down the waiter multiple times, not once do they make eye contact to check if you need anything even though the restaurant is not even busy. Sushi isn t rolled tight enough as well.
comfy place I had crispy awesome roll and the fried yam was so good and really crispy dynamite roll , prawns were fresh and well cooked the only ghing is that the soy sauce was too salty new fav sushi restaurant
The service in this restaurant is top-notch. Dont choose to invite friends to eat here. If you want to eat quickly and leave quickly, dont mind. I specially chose this Japanese restaurant to treat friends to dinner on New Years Day, but an older waiter surprised me yesterday, and made us decide to never go back again during our last visit. When we were chatting happily, we came to inquire about packing and checkout, and took away the teapot. When my husband came back from the bathroom, the waiter came again and took away our teacups without saying a word. The four of us were stunned. Such an eviction order was still This is the first time I encountered it in Vancouver. Such service has greatly affected the friendly impression of Japanese food in the minds of the public, lowering the standard and reputation of the restaurant.
20% off M-Fri 3-5pm until Feb 15th, 2023
Quality has definitely gone down. I used to love this place but after going the other day I don t think I will ever go again. I went during lunch hour, which you would think would be busy but there was only 3 tables being used. Me and my family s food took for ever to be served and when it was served it was warm at most (I got the gyoza bento box). What I found the most disgusting was the fact that there was raw tuna sitting out on a preparation table for 3 hours with no one preparing it, it was only until we were leaving that we saw it being sliced (I was going to order the poke bowl until I saw that). Got the impression our waitress didn t care much while ordering as she talked in a very short I don t care type of way. Back to the food: the rolls that it came with were decent, gyoza was alright, and tempura was actually my favourite thing we got. Sad to see this restaurant go so downhill, especially since I ve been going to this place since I was young. In conclusion unsanitary, mediocre food, careless employee, long wait. 1/5 rating wouldn t recommend (maybe on a busier day it would be better)
I ordered the delivery, and they didn t do that, so we went to the restaurant to check on it, but they said that it was actually Uber. After that, they said that it was a mistake and actually a take out, AGAIN!! What is this???
Very surprised! Lovely experience
Very good food but not a nice customer service
No katsu curry.
Delicious sushi and yummy miso soup. Excellent service with hot tea greeting us as we came in from the cold.
Sushi was on point. Fresh and tasty. Excellent/ friendly/fast service. Keep up the work!!
Amazing place! Delicious food with great prices. Will definitely come back soon!
The food and the quality was awesome. Even though i am so much amazed by the service over their. I will surely comeback there.
Excellent
Great location, the value to quantity ratio is bang on, the variety of options is phenomenal, they do get busy but definitely worth the wait.
Food was good. Server was friendly but slow.
Great sushi,loved it.beautiful interior.Staffs are so friendly.Loved the location.Beautiful house
Amazing food. Great staff but not all the time I would say
Its the worst sushi restaurant Ive ever had, so the owner doesnt seem to be normal either.
Poor customer service provided by the lady owner, very impolite and wait a long time for just the simply sushi order, never come to refill your tea. Dont waste your money there.
Very cute setting. Quiet, and interesting setup in the interior. Food was tasty, maybe a tad more expensive than other places, but we enjoyed a nice date night dinner here.
We enjoyed our dinner and sake very much. The food is good, the building is a lovely old converted mansion with beautiful stained glass details and the service is fairly attentive. I was happily surprised at the size of my BC roll. Its HUGE, fresh, and yummy. Yaki Soba and Yaki Udon dishes were flavourful. Chicken teriyaki on rice was cooked well, and gyoza and tempura prawns were fresh and hot. There are some menu items for someone needing gluten-free dishes which was great. The building isnt accessible to those with mobility issues. There are no ramps, lots of steep steps to walk up, and no elevator that we could find. The main meals didnt come out at the same time so some were almost finished before others had started. Dietary restrictions: Had gluten-free options like Sunomono and sushi without sauce. Parking: There is free parking in the back and metered parking on the side street. Wheelchair accessibility: Not friendly for wheelchairs or those with mobility challenges. No ramps or elevators that we could find and the stairs are steep.
It seemed the chicken katsu don was microwaved as the katsu was warm and the breading was soft sushi was ok nothing special
I usually try somewhere different each time I go for sushi, not anymore! Very impressed.
So, yesterday night we went with my GF to eat and we get food poison, I think it was the bake oysters first they bring it to the table cold, we send it back to worm it up, our sushi rolls didn t feel to fresh to be honest, unfortunately we eat it and we get sick just please double check you products, I don t think coming back to this restaurant, service lady just one person and she was not very helpful.
Today Green tea jaru soba is not good
Food was amazing. Kay, one of the employees, was absolutely amazing!
I dont eat sushi very often but overall I really liked my experience. Will go again.
Excellent place to have a family dinner. Affordable prices for great dishes Very friendly staff as well. I really enjoyed it. The only cons is the close time and the lack of a background music thank you for all Recommended dishes
The food is delicious, the quaint atmosphere is great, and the staff are friendly.
I FOUND A STAPLE INSIDE THE SUSHI ROLL I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment with the quality of the food and service. Specifically, during my recent visit to your establishment on 5/11/2023 for the takeout during dinner, I found a staple inside one of the sushi rolls that I had ordered. As you can imagine, discovering a foreign object in my food was both shocking and concerning. It not only ruined my dining experience but also put my health at risk. Since I ordered online and picked up the food that night, I could not talk to the waiters about it. The pictures I uploaded is the one I found when I was finishing the leftover sushi I had on 5/11/2023. The incident had already left a negative impression on me and made me question the overall hygiene standards in your kitchen. As a customer, I feel deeply disappointed and dissatisfied with my experience in this restaurant. Finding a staple in my food is unacceptable, and it has left me with concerns about the safety and hygiene standards of your kitchen.
It tastes great, the food looks good and delicious
Very bad experience there ,sashimi was not fresh ,the restaurant look very nice but foods are terrible
We have been choosing this corner of Japanese delicacies for over 4 years .... prices are reasonable,so you can afford to stay there with the family. Service is not super just ok- for the price i am not asking more. Sushi dishes are all super fresh and well prepared from the owner - it is our tradition going there at least once in a month. Also, the villas facade is stunning!
We look forward to our next visit. Excellent food with great service. We thought the hash brown roll was a bit of a stunt until we tried it. Its one of our new favourites along with the traditional style of rolls. This was our third visit in 3 weeks.
Sushi is not bad but service is lukewarm . I ordered a party tray D 71 pcs for 59$ from the advertised website . I went to pick it up and the price of the same tray was 94$ There was no sincere apology . Just a robotic smile and a singing thank youuu here pay thanKyuuuuuu There was no honouring of the advertised price . Not even a compromise of taking 10-15$ off . They need to update all website info otherwise it is considered FALSE ADVERTISING . Not cool on how that older lady handled it so I was quite disappointed.
Nice ambiance, good location, fair price!!!
Used to be the best in the area, but quality and service went downhill significantly in recent years
Walking into the restaurant is truly a unique experience, its like walking into a comfortable home. Albeit too dark for a sushi restaurant, maybe they wanted a romantic theme? service was great tho! One waitress handling all the tables with a smile, she deserves a raise! As for food we had Oyster motoyaki which was rather underwhelming, it was swimming in mayo and the bento was average at best, tuna sashimi tasted slightly frozen still and the roll was average, there was crunch but as far as flavour went? I prefer sushi town Burnaby.
We came here because this place is open later than other places. Even though we came at 800ish on Friday night, it was quiet enough and we re seated right away. Ordered a red dynamite roll, crunchy crunchy roll and a bottle of plum sake. Dynamite roll was our favourite, but we would have liked the shrimp tails removed. The crunchy roll was tasty also but a bit largely rolled for our liking. Over all I would return :) Crunchy crunchy roll for reference
Disgusting
Sushi Oyama is the most disorganized and worse customer service to ever be seen. The workers and the owner treated my friends and I terribly two times for no specific reason. We all felt out of place because of the rude service we were receiving. The restaurant overall does not even deserve a one star due to our horrible experience. The most overrated place. Never going back there again. And won t forget the filthy cups they served us. Do not recommend.
We order big teriyaki box spicy tuna roll n baked oysters yummy n priced properly fish is fresh and server Kay super nice keep up good work Kay
How many times can I review this place. I have deleted my old review to provide a new one. I ordered here for the first time in a while and I am so disappointed. I love the spicy Salmon sashimi combo and was incredibly disappointed to see they have not only increased the price but they reduced the size of the rolls and the salmon sashimi. The size of the salmon sashimi is about half the size of the old container and the spicy Salmon rolls contain less salmon and are noticeably smaller. Unfortunately will be looking for a new sushi joint.
Prices are above average!(for an East Side restaurant.)
We had a great time. Food is good. Service prompt and fast.
Excellent atmosphere and great sushi.
Love this place, been coming here for years. We dont even live around the lower mainland but come here every time we visit. Great rolls at a good price and very generous on the fish they put in the rolls and the sashimi. Theyve upped their spicy tuna game too and now Ive had spicy tuna roll that actually I can feel the heat. Worth adding this place on your sushi rotation
Wish there was an elevator.
The spicy salmon sashimi is always a go-to. This is a budget-friendly spot to satisfy your sushi craving. While the quality might not be exceptional, the food is still decent enough to enjoy.
to much cucumber in some of the rolls but it was good
One of the nicest rooms Ive been in for sushi in Vancouver. Delicious food and very nice service. But the location is what keeps bringing me back.
Cool house turned into restaurant. Awesome food.
Family reunion! So happy I picked this place. We have had many a dinner, many a celebration, here. First time back since 2021. From the presentation, start to finish, our entire experience was amazing. Water and tea refills were regularly taken care of. Staff were friendly. Definitely will continue coming here. Great for bigger groups.
Kid-friendliness: They have a high chair for babies.. Food
Disappointing. The nori around the maki rolls was chewy
The service was good, the atmosphere was okay, the food was average but reasonably priced.
The fish was fresh and delicious. One of my favorite points is that the price is relatively reasonable.
Oyama more like oh ya ma stomach hurts. Rolls were not fresh, tasted like booty. The minute I ate it, I knew something wasn t right. I don t normally write reviews, but the quality of the food that my girlfriend and I received tonight was not appetizing at all. PS. both our stomachs still hurt as I type this hours later.
Food takes forever, service is slow, staff is very inattentive and rude
Came to pick up a take out order and saw the the waiter just finish taking payment for another customer. After that she didn t wash her hands and opened a take out box to re-arrange some tempura. Absolutely disgusting. Never eating here ever again.
Sushi Oyama used to be one of our go-to places in the area but its probably been a decade since our last visit. Located in the old Glenedward mansion (Johnson House), the atmosphere is interesting. For those of you that don t know the enchanting mansion used to be the home of the Royal Oak Funeral Home until as late as 1981. Visited recently and ordered the sashimi grand slam which lets you pick and choose from a series of options (got the salmon, tai, saba, and hamachi). The chicken yakiudon had very tender noodles. The oyster motoyaki used breaded oysters that were coated with a yellowy sauce (not the best weve had). The inari 5 were huge pockets made from sweet tofu skin filled with rice and various toppings. Overall not bad in terms of food.
Their special sushi was not tasty, I think we got their oyama roll? Their beef teriyaki was actually better and pretty big portion. Matcha icecream desert was ok. This place has really weird / steep stairs that s kind of a health hazard and really not very accessible for people, be careful to not trip. The service was ok and food came pretty fast tho.
Very average sushi place nothing surprising
Second time in a row ordering their late night special where the freshness of the fish is dubious at best.
For years Ive driven past Sushi Oyama in its beautiful mansion on Kingsway; finally tonight I had the chance to go. I ordered the small sake (Gekkeikan) which I often drink with sushi. It tasted awful and had a weird fishy aftertaste. Telling the server became very awkward, she did not want to take the sake away, told me the manager said the sake is all the same and I still had to pay for it. Had they not charged me I would have gladly ordered something else, I love sake with my sushi! Immediately after clearing my friends plate, I was still nibbling my ginger, our server brought our bill and the machine. I asked if we were being kicked out, do you want us to leave or can we sit here for a bit? We hadnt asked for our bills and we hadnt asked to pay. She never asked if we were finished, how the food was, if we wanted anything else; it was very abrupt. The food was good but there are a lot of delicious sushi places with much kinder service.
Delicious food, all dishes served hot and very authentic. Would definitely recommend.
This restaurant has one of the best atmospheres of any Japanese Restaurant. Being able to have authentic looking Japanese architecture plopped on Kingsway is an incredible asset for this eatery. Vegetarian rolls were also very fresh, and dining environment was cool! Vegetarian options: Avocado roll or Yam roll are some good options.
Cheap food but high price. Raman is not pork bone soup, meat is given very little. Waiter also never ask or coming for order actively, even very few costumes in the restaurant.
The food was amazing. The service was great. Well worth the price.
Love them . Lots of coocked sushi for the Sushi beginners ( its bit hard to start eating raw fish when you are used to only deep fried or fish curries ,lol).
Great Food. Very Poor Service. They forgot two items from our order, finally got one of them but billed us for both. We then had to get the bill corrected. There was a strand of HAIR in our Edamame. The weirdest bit was in the end. They asked us why we didnt tip (which we didnt because of the poor service) and we were forced to tip out of courtesy. Would possibly go their for the food again but will be more forceful in calling out the poor service next time.
Yall need to properly check if your rolls have salmon or tuna holy
Very nice. Food us always good. The specialty rolls are excellent. Prices on higher end.
Poor quality food, really expensive for what you get. Soggy, tasteless vegetable tempuras, bland Green tea Zaru Soba, disappointing Sashimi. I ll Never go there again
Good price good food
Absolutely the worst service and wait time ive had at a restaurant. First i stood around waiting 10 mins (in an empty front entrance) before greeted and shown to our table (they weren t even busy at this time). Then only to wait 45 mins for a SINGLE roll which was mediocre tasting at best, with no apology from the waitress who only said well it s Friday night before walking away.
Impressive, good customer service and quickly with the order. We ordered Asahi beer Maki tray Kaki fry Assorted Tempura Cone triple
Been getting sushi from here for years. Definitely my go-to spot! Always great quality food!
solid sushi in a beautiful heritage building.
I loved the place, waitress are very attentive and nice, food is great, I thought the prices would be expensive but not.
order for pick up in 20mintuts when i arrived, they just started Waste my time (off-peak hours) Anyway, it s just a matter of ordering and picking it up, and you ll get it in 20 minutes. Dont give it to me until you arrive. Its just a waste of my time. It s not busy time yet
Saw the lady force some guests to tip . They were european and ckearly didnt understand
My take out experience is so far so good. This restaurant has by far the best oyster motoyaki in the area
Tried alot of their rolls tonight. Lots of variety to choose from. Overall good.
Food was so so. Server was not nice
Order for take out, been told need to wait 35 mins. Then I wait for more than 1 hour! Complain to the stuff and she said: oh , really? and turn back. What a unbelievable service!!!!!!!!!
First of all, your menu shows you dont understand Japanese culture. Its not donkatsu its tonkatsu , (ton) means pork while means cutlet. don is anything referring to a rice bowl dish. Second, your ramen isnt ramen at all, as the broth isnt even ramen broth, and the noodles arent ramen noodles at all. Ramen broth isnt supposed to be boiling hot, its served mildly warm with a nice creamy flavour to it. It can be either light broth or thick rich broth. Also, you dont add white mushrooms to ramen. This is why I only choose to go to Japanese restaurants run by actual Japanese.
Service is terrible they took the order late and waited 45 minutes for our first rolls even though the restaurant was empty, but food was alright
Love the vibe here. Green tea is always hot and tastes good!
Great sushi in a super cool building. Very attentive staff...maybe a touch too much
Absolutely incredible! Cute little restaurant in the neighborhood, staff were incredibly friendly and the food was delicious. I will definitely be going back as there is so much to still try!
The foods were great
u better run
Restaurant is good, didnt like the sushi so much
Love the quite place and the foods here. Reasonable prices for Japanese foods.
Terrible service
Service sucks! Food is not bad
Weak customer service, mediocre food
Stale avocado, takes loooong to get orders, not sure what happened to this place but I wont go there again. Some items are still good, restaurant looks decent but overall quality visibly going down.
Awesome sushi
Worst sushi I have ever had anywhere!
I used to come here and always was recommending the place to my friends to try their foods. I invited my friend today to come here and was completely shocked about foods and service. For me it is not personal and although the rule says the costumer is always right, as a customer you should know that sometimes it is not fair on the staffs who give you a service. But in this case it is different. The first bad impression was where I asked politely to change the given table (near the washroom corridor) with another one which was rejected harshly by a waitress just saying NO only, without any emotion or adding sorry it is impossible because ... which was OK for me since nothing is personal again. Finally, we were sited in the enclosed patio and ordered. Lets talk about the foods (1xCalifonia roll,1 x Alaska roll, 1xVeggie Mango roll and 1 x Gomae ), I cannot say it was awful but the quality of rolls was so poor, struggling to have them since they were not tight properly. Please forget about using your chopsticks, it is like you eat an Indian dish with rice. And the final surprise came after while we were drinking our tea which wasnt finished ! we were asked to leave since your 1 hr is done! Are you kidding me guys!! I asked them we should have known that you have a time limit here before being sit or you should put a note and something in the front desk letting the customer know ! and what do you think about their answer? Just Sorry, today we have been busy and today is a holyday. Thanks for the info I though today is Friday Mam !! I will not come here and will not recommend the place to anybody anymore. There are other options available in the neighborhood for you people.
Service is solid here but the food really has gone downhill since we were here (not much flavour, messily rolled sushi, etc.) and of course more expensive. Our takeout experience was similarly lackluster.
Iv been at that place more than 10 times and loved it today ive got very disappointed from the service so i have to change from 5 star to 1
Average sushi and oysters. The best thing was the special onigiri platter with the flame torched fish, except the beef one, which was pretty chewy. It wouldnt be so bad if their costs were not above average.
This is the California roll that they serve
Lion King roll (1st photo) was so good.
After 4 months, I went here again. I revise the star from 2 to 1. The food is worse than 4 months ago. The price is not worth it. Total only have 3 tables inclusing us. Please dont wast your money there.
Great food but dress warm. Brrr...its cold in here
Had the party tray and kids combo. Kids dig it and finished it in a hurry. We stayed away from fishy rolls because last time and this time turned out to be okay. Food : 3/5
Great location and great space. The menu has traditional and unique options and the service was excellent. Slightly pricey but its always a good experience.
Had dinner with a friend here. I hadnt been here in probably 10 years. The sushi tasted great and prices were reasonable. Was a pretty quiet night, service was good. Brought over a lot of tea
Service was very unattentive. The older Japanese (?) lady was not very polite and did not check on our orders. Several times I tried to wave her down to take our order, to have her wave me off and not come by till much later.
I go here quite often. Food is good and it usually comes pretty quick unless theyre crazy busy. Lion King Roll Is one of my favourite rolls but they have a very wide selection of both special and traditional rolls. Check them out!
2018 - 5 stars: One of the best Chicken Kutsu Dons Ive had. 2020 - 3 stars: I got my food in a takeout container lid. Food wasnt as good as it used to be. I had been going here since about 2016 and have now stopped. Maybe they are better now, but I dont have a reason to retry.
Just gross. Everything is covered in heavy sauces. Maybe not my taste but none of the 4 of us thought it was good. Gross is the best way to describe it. Just a sloppy, sloppy sushi mess.
I am a delivery guy, and this is the most ridiculous restautrant I have ever been. Firstly, they are so dishonest that I got the order is ready notice from the app but actually they are still preparing. Secondly, they told me just wait for 1 or 2 minutes but I waited more than 15 minutes. I asked 3, 4 times but they just said 1 minutes Thirdly, they are impatient and rude, especially the elder lady, who is very impatient to me when I asked her how long do I need to wait. I encourage delivery people do not go to this restaurant in order to avoid getting abused from them.
Hands down my favorite sushi spot in the Lower Mainland. The service is always so friendly and extremely quick. The food is always a 10/10 in my books! I have this restaurant to all my family and friends! My go to here is the calamari crunch roll. Food
The restaurant was cold and the food was tasteless and lacked quality. The menu had too many items which made me think that they do not know what they are doing. Would not recommend.
Really good sushi and udon
Use to be a great place, but their rise in cost is way higher than most. Our dinner was $200 for 2 people.
