4266 Hastings St, Burnaby, BC V5C 2J6, Canada
Storefront sushi specialist with specialty rolls & classic cooked fare such as tempura & BBQ.
As far as atmosphere goes it feels like most informal sushi restaurants. The rice was tough in the sushi rolls and the miso soup was kind of just soup, there were teeny tiny pieces of seaweed but it wasn’t really your standard nourishing miso soup you get with nice pieces of seaweed. The rolls were a bit stale tasting and tough, overall it’s overpriced by a long shot for what you get. Their specials have really no choice and the menu is structured in a way that you kind of can’t really get exactly what you want because it’s a bit strict.
This restaurant was clean, quality of food and service were good! Just when I have to exchange the table due to extra guests joining, the server didn't seem happy. Over all, I'm happy!
The new beer was great and only seen in this restaurant. Food were fresh n came pretty fast! Price is definitely worth for the taste n portions. Servicers always around when u need them. Definitely will go back
Enjoyed the combos around $15. Lots to eat. Might wait for taking order but food comes quickly and serves tea regularly. Came again and ordered combo, sunflower sushi, yam tempura. All good. Came again and got AC combo. Also sashimi sushi bento box. All good with fast service and reasonable price. Best Japanese restaurant in greater Vancouver. Came on Sunday and super busy so service was slower. Got combos, sashimi, assorted sushi
I always enjoy the sushi from this restaurant whenever I order. Sushi portions are big and filling for a decent price. I recommend the Pacific roll or Franklin roll, as all the flavors go very well together. The combo for BC/Dynamite/California rolls is also a good deal and is good for a meal between two people. Tentatsu is a solid sushi restaurant in North Burnaby.
Tai sashimi is supposed to taste firm, it is not supposed to taste like some fishy rubber chewing toy for dogs. I don't expect magic from a 25 buck bento box, but I do expect the chef can at least cut the fish right. Worst sashimi I've ever had in my life and that includes grocery store sushi and sushi from all you can eat chinese restaurant. I seriously think all food served from this place should be boiled and sanitized before serving, as all the government stickers on the wall stated about oysters. I should've taken that flag seriously and left when I saw those.
Location and atmosphere was great, but the food is not good at all. Sushi rolls look boring, karaage (Japanese fried chicken) even worse, it was so dry, old, not juicy nor crispy at all, just like a left over. It came with no dipping sauce, just a plate of fried chicken and I had to ask for mayonnaise sauce. Raw oysters are so so tiny Not worth for money. So disappointed and ruined my dinner time.
I often come here with a big group when everyone's craving lots of sashimi. The portions are big and the prices are reasonable. The food isn't anything special, but it's generally not bad. If I'm looking for delicious food, I might not choose this place, but for a lot of food, it's my go-to.
Salmon sashimi is really good!
My family love the food and we had visited several times here occasionally. But we were disappointed after todays lunch. My wife and daughter both start vomiting numerous times and had diarrhea when got home after consuming the sashimi and scallops. Please review.
5 STARS best sushi place ever. The service here is absolutely amazing, and the food ( specifically the salmon sashimi ) is chef s kiss. Best to come before 7pm though, if you want to avoid waiting
Not bad their okonomiyaki and oyako don
Your classic non traditional neighborhood sushi restaurant. Good portions and prices
Very good food. Highly recommended
We have been there a few times, fish are always fresh and portions are big. Services are very good.
Had 3 item lunch special $16.55. Tempura appetizer, tobiko, house roll, salmon & tuna sushi. Great service (attentive). Tea & miso soup included. This is my go to place on the heights. Vegetarian options: Veggie tempura or teriyaki Parking: City parking
Value of food is great. Also taste pretty good considering the cost.
I ve never been to a sushi restaurant where I disliked everything. Apparently they put mustard in their food and the sushi was bland. I used ginger to clean my mouth out.
My group inadvertently ended up here, due to not being able to wait in a 1 hour line-up for Antons Pasta next door. Half my group was OK being here, but my child is allergic to seafood and I didnt have any Epipen on me. My child could not safely eat anything here (cross contamination and all) but the owner, a kind middle aged man, offered to call and order Antons pasta from next door. No business owner has every offered services from another, to help my kid have something safe to eat. I just wanted to say Thank You to this kind man, who was thinking about my kid, when my group did not seem to care about my kids food allergies. You went the extra mile just for offering your thoughtfulness.
My mom loves it here. Only place that makes the best bc roll, made with lots salmon skin and some cucumbers (how it should be) and sauce on top. My dad loves the bento box sets, great deal! Awesome roll is delicious.
Been coming here for about 13 years quality has not changed. Portions are huge. Prices still very reasonable. Can never complain
The portions you get for the price is fantastic! I got the unagi and chicken teriyaki don and it was huge!
Tentatsu could be the best Japanese sushi restaurant in burnaby! Reasonable price for big portion, tons of choices. high quality beyond the price so many reasons to go there! The delicious food is worth of waiting.
Great variety of sushi at a good price and a good size, too. Very rich
Great food, fresh and delicious!
Good food for good price
Bad service not clean
Bad service, rice too dry, place is not clean, staffs is not friendly and ignored customers needed, will not recommend
Great food and staff so nice. Food came so fast love
This food was amazing, great service. Would come here again 10/10
Love the sashimi!
The pieces of sashimi fish got significantly smaller. We didnt even get enough wasabi they are really showing that they re trying to save money!
Its affordable for sure, but there are better affordable sushi restaurants out here. The spinach gomea was so bland I thought I had covid. The Victoria roll was tasty, and I liked the seaweed salad that its toped with And the yam and avocado roll was okay.
Good price! Foods are fair.
They are always so nice to treat you and provide a big size tray. Love it so much.
My favourite Japanese restaurant in Metro Vancouver! Their katsudon is incredible but the portion size is absurd. Unless you re famished, I recommend splitting it between two people.
10/10 Recommend. Sushi is so fresh, the restaurant is beautiful, and the prices are amazing.
I love the ramen
Great food . Good Sized Portions attentive service . Its come a long way over the last few years .
Quality is decent but large proportions make this worth the good prices. Despite the comfortable atmosphere and ambience, the service is only average. Recommend getting the sashimi, which always come in thick slices
Food: poor fish quality, rolled sushi ordered for dine-in have been prepared days in advance. Oshi lacks any flavour. Atmosphere: they are setup to be a takeout restaurant, so the limited tables are lined with takeout containers for orders being prepared. Dine in is definitely an afterthought Service: no issues, lovely people
Awesome place & Sushi!
They don t care delivery people I wait 20min they didn t care
Messed up my delivery order
Very tasty good quality food with good service and very affordable price, will definitely go back.
I ve been going here regularly for 6 years, and have always enjoyed the food despite a somewhat chaotic atmosphere. Recently they changed owners, and the place got a facelift. The atmosphere was much nicer, but the food took a turn for the worse. Most of the items were good, but the crab in our California roll and one other roll was very fishy so we couldn t eat it. When we told our server about this, she checked with the chef and told us that the chef said it just came in , and left it at that. Too bad, as this would have been an easy fix (remove a $5 item off of a $70 bill), but the poor customer service and upset stomach after means this long time customer probably won t be returning.
The food and the service is very good!
Chinese run Japanese restaurant, portions are big for the price. Food is generally fresh.
Wonderful food and amazing customer service. Definitely coming back to this place! Shout out to the young lady, Ruby! Great work!
Definitely a place that serves up good priced sashimi compared to other restaurants. The Kyoto Combo was really good with the quantity of sashimi and nigiri sushi. Throw in the Cali roll, 5 pieces of tempura, a miso soup and sunomono, you got one pretty sweet deal! The pieces of sashimi were pretty big and thick too!
I went with a vegan group. They gave great green tea thats on the house. Food is very good and great quantities for the prices. Tons of options to choose from the menu. Vegetarian options: Vegan options also available
I recently dined at this restaurant and unfortunately experienced severe stomach symptoms the following day, leading to a hospital visit where I was diagnosed with a serious food-related infection. I had never faced such an issue before. Given the severity of my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
Changing my review of this restaurant. It had great food and staff for a few years after it opened. However, after the slim built Asian guy with eyeglasses was hired (I see from other reviews his name may be Cyrus?), and unfortunately, he seems to be working there all the time, our interactions with him was very seldom pleasant. He has absolutely no customer service skills nor does he have manners. Never says thank you even after we prepaid a tip for the takeout. Never any greetings, thank-you s, or goodbyes. That s fine with me as the food is still decent. However, my very first negative interaction with him was a few years go when I walked in as the first customer when the restaurant opened in the morning. This young man (Cyrus) took my order. After 45 minutes of waiting and no food (at first I thought the kitchen needed time to warm up the fryer or something so I didn t say anything). This waiter had been walking back and forth around me serving other customers and never once did he wondered why I was sitting there for so long without food being served. I finally asked him about my order and he came back and told me my ordered was never entered into the system- even though he was the one that took my order - no apologies, nothing. Fast forward to today, I went in and ordered two takeout items and paid for the food (with tip) - and as expected, no thank you from this guy - that was almost as expected. That was fine. However, again, being one of the first customers and after 30 minutes of waiting and no updates from this waiter, I asked about the food. He simple told me that they just opened up and I had to wait a bit longer. The moral of the story, don t bother going in early to beat the crowd because they ll just make you wait longer for the food. Don t bother tipping if you re doing takeout and this guy is doing your order because he doesn t seem to care about his customers or the tips. I feel sorry for the kitchen staff because most of the time they make decent food and they work very hard. They could have a bigger share of the tips if the front end servers knew just a little about good customer service.
Been coming here for years. Today we sat down at 1105hrs and never received our New York roll after asking at 1145hrs. The staff attitude was pretty shocking and we will not be coming back to this particular restaurant. Hopefully the other one listed on Hastings will be better.
Decent sushi, busy location karage was nice
Seems management changed, take wrong order, bad service! Do not recommend. Food : 3/5
Fresh food, big portion, friendly staff, free street parking, always great dining experience here
We waited 40 minutes for our order and they might ve forgotten to put it in, but they were super nice about it and gave us free rolls and ice cream. The workers were very nice as well
Tentatsu s food is great. The people who take the calls when ordering the take-out are always my issue. I was told while ordering over the phone that if I order $30 I would get 30% off. I order my food, and she tells me ok great, you re over $30. So I reply so I will get my discount? And she confirms yes. My boyfriend goes to pick it up, and when he comes back home he tells me that they didn t apply the discount. I call them and explain what happened and all they have to say for themselves is Because you weren t over $30 before tax. How is that my fault? Teach your servers and people who take the phone calls to double check these things while I order. I m not here to do your job. I would ve been fine adding 1 extra thing to reach the threshold had she told me. No compensation or gift certificate even offered. Just horrible service all around.
if i could put zero stars i would, this is the worst sushi i ve ever had. i currently have food poisoning because i got sick from the RAW chicken karaage.
Price fits portions. The quality of the items were nice but the portions were a tad bit smaller than what Im used to.
Honestly they have never let us down. The food is always great. Chicken teriyaki and the BC roll are very good.
Relatively inexpensive sushi. Service is good, usually pretty quick bringing you your food, on this particular occasion it took quite a long time. They have downsized some portions, particularly the udon soup, was about half the size it has been in the past, and of course, prices have gone up...inflation Finding that over time everything pretty much tastes the same, relatively Bland sushi rolls. It seems as though something has changed, used to really enjoy going there. Food used to be much better, hadnt been for a while, as the previous few occasions havent been that great, thought Id give it another go, dont think Ill be going back again for some time. Tempura is frequently overly greasy. I think they need to change their oil more often. Good if youre on a budget, but I think theres better food out there and other places for a similar price range.
Tent ing up solo! I was in the area picking up an order so decided to come by here because it has been awhile since I last visited. I always like the simple and spacious concept of this place as it gives you that causal comfort especially when dining solo. Here were the food I ordered this time around; 1. Hot sake. I seldom drink, just going generic 2. Clam miso soup. Large bowl of miso soup, nice and hot but only 3 clams? 3. Deep fried soft shell crab. Very nicely done, exactly the way how a soft shell crab should be! And it s almost half the price as other places, loved it! 4. Beef tataki. I am not too fond of this dish as it sat on top a layer of shredded radish preventing the sauce to fuse with the beef properly. I could dip it one by one as the sauce came separately but that s quite a bit of a workout lol 5. Oyster motoyaki. I personally preferred oyster motoyaki to be fresh and on its shell. Way too much mayo, an overkill. 6. Deluxe assorted sashimi. Very fresh and nice selection of fish for a reasonable price. 7. Uni nigiris. Nice! Generous amount of uni unlike some other places. 8. C + B combo (fancy roll & 4 nigiris; 2 salmon, tuna, toro). Very fresh and buttery especially the tuna toro. Honestly, I was a little surprised with the food quality (is it me or it has gotten better?!?). I know the portion was always their trademark but the last time I was here, it was only so so. This time around, a more satisfying experience. The service here was okay, pretty typical nothing special to chant about. And the atmosphere was very casual therefore dining solo here wasn t awkward. Overall, I think I might come back to this place more, even if going SOLO.
We ordered Kyoto Combo, Sunflower Roll, and Salmon Oshi Sushi for our holiday dinner! They look delicate and taste really delicious!! The interior design of the restaurant is amazing!!! The staff here are kind and friendly. Jane served us; she is so patient and responsible! Love this restaurant and highly recommend it!!! We will come here next time to try other food!
Bit busy on the holidays. The food was decent, we had 2 combos.
We were a group of 9 people so they set up a nice table for us but when it comes to their service, they do racial discrimination as when I called them to order, they just ignored us for straight 15mins. We asked for glasses of water and tea for the table and they were counting how many we were instead of just bringing 9 glasses of water for the table. I was shocked that why are they being stingy about serving water for the table. The food is very average. The sushi are not fresh and very soggy and saucy. Not a good experience.
Terrific service and food. I really enjoyed the atomosphere and food.
I come here almost weekly because its so good and the value is excellent. What a nice place to sit and relax with unlimited complimentary green tea when you eat a nice Bento box or sashimi plate. The staff here are very attentive and helpful while the decor is nice and seating is spacious. They also have a family washroom for wheel chair access and plenty of street parking all around.
This is our one of the best sushi restaurants in the area. Servers are so silent, and not look friendly but I believe this is because of the culture differences. Food
We have been ordering from this place for about a year. On Dec 31 decided to do another order and we were very excited about sushi for New Year eve. I couldn t describe how we got disappointed.. All sushi except deep fried Cali were made on rush . Snow White - messy, small, no flakes. Sakura - messy, no tobiko. White dragon- messy, no flakes on top.. Lobster roll - excuse me, where? 15g ? Thank you, Tentatsu. You lost clients, who had been ordering every week :)
Drive 30km just to have the best Sushi in Vancouver!
!!!Diner beware!!! Terrible service at tentatsu in Burnaby. We ordered lunch through online menu, however when we picked it up, the restaurant decided to substitute our roll with, get this.... air. When we tried to give the manager a chance to make things right, he out right said it was our fault that we ordered it and should have known that even if its on the menu they wouldnt be providing it. Like what??? Take that off the menu then! What kind of bacwards logic is that? We ordered rolls, expect rolls, pay for rolls. If you need to sub it, thats fine, let us know or refund us the amount. Zero effort to try to resolve it. Diner beware!
Bad customer service. The server with the glass is the worst. He clearly don t like his job and he don t respect customers.
I love their Fire role.
Consistently great place!
Very quick service and good quality sushi
Really large portions of really good food
I love this place because: 1- kind and polite staff 2- reasonable price 3- delicious sushi and teriyaki 4- great services 5- calm and beautiful environment I think it is one of the best
Best bang for your buck sushi place with great service and tasty sushi here! I ordered a B&C combo with spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon sashimi and it was not only delicious, but also incredibly filling and generous with the portion size. Fish was really fresh! Looking forward to making this my default go-to after work with friends.
Amazing food and even better service!! Love the indoor decor especially the sakura trees inside!! Beautifully designed!!
Great food! Great services! Come again for sure. Love the place.
My hubby and I used to come to this place before the pandemic. We just came today looks like the ownership has changed. The staff was terrible . The lady that served us basically mumbled to us to take a seat but we didn t know where to go. She had her mask on and gloves took our order and never came back The restaurant was very dirty and had a rancid smell! . No refill on tea , no asking how are food was. It wasn t even busy. We noticed this one guy who worked there pacing up and down the isles manically . When we paid our bill I said thank you and the guy didn t say anything! Zero customer service or friendliness! The food was a complete disappointment. No flavour and tasted really bad. Super sad as we used to love this place . Will Not be going back! Oh well!
The food was amazing! And lots of it too! We came 1st time with my 9 family members for my boyfriend bday, and it was a little cramped. Could use a remodel for sure! But all of the different dishes we ordered were fantastic! Food
Best bento in Vancouver area
Such wonderful service from Jenny and the food was amazing ... remembered us and our exact preferences ... I love this ! Salmon collar .. gailan ... spicey tuna cone ... wow !
Worst Japanese food ever!!! Prawn tempura was disgusting. Very oily and not crispy. Prawn tasted very fishy and smelled like bleach. Maki sushi rice was overly seasoned with something sour? Vinegar? Like way too much. The chicken teriyaki tasted like day old chicken that was microwaved and covered in thick sugary teriyaki sauce. Yuck!!
The chopped scallop roll was a delicious snack.
I always come here for fresh sushi at an affordable price.
So bad, won t come again.I ordered lobster tail motoyoki for $18.95 just have very little lobster meat, and the Sapporo Shoyu Ramen soup so salty i told the server let her add some hot water in, she added one cup of water, still salty ~~
I like the food and good service too
Lovely service and food
Reliable and consistent. Food wait is long though. Recommended dishes Salmon Sashimi, Chopped Scallop
The food is pretty good. Staff, hmm kinda rude.
Food was good!!! Service was good!!
One of my fav Japanese places in Burnaby, or maybe the best. Price, Quality, Taste and service were amazing. they dont charge you extra for spicy sauce like other places. 9.2/10 Food : 5/5
Nice environment
We waited for our food for over 30 minutes and were missing one of the dishes we ordered. It was good once it came but the service was awful. We were sat waiting for the food for 30 minutes then another 30 minutes after we finished before someone checked on us again. We tried asking for a recommendation and the staff barely said any words to us. Tastes good though just upset the service didn t match that.
Food was decent but service was quite bad. Our server was missing in action for a long time, didn t know the menu, and we didn t get any water or tea.
Slowest place I ve ever Ben. Took 40 mins to get food. Standard fair. Won t be back.
Just a regular Japanese restaurant. Nothing really different about it
My wife and I ate here recently. Very nice and the portions are quite large...which is super amazing
Placed an online order at 3:45pm for pick up at 8pm. Normally, they are efficient and friendly when I pick up my order but this time, I had a poor experience. Restaurant was mildly busy at the time of pick up. When I had asked about my order, they said it would be ready soon. I advised that I provided ample time to prepare my order and expected it to be on time or just a short wait. Waited with my 6 yr old son patiently and finally received my order at 8:22pm. Owner apologized and gave us two miso soups for waiting. Advised her that if someone orders ahead for a specific time, they shouldn t have to wait 22 mins extra for pick up.
Great place. Try deep-fry California rolls. It is just something! Food
DO NOT UBER FROM THESE THIEVES. Worst service ever. Went for take out maybe a month ago. Ordered something on their online menu through Uber. I picked it up, got home, opened it only to find that they purposely changed my order without letting me know. Other uber orders where they changed my order, they would contact me prior to confirm. When I confronted the owner, they claimed it was my fault for not knowing that their menu wasnt right. They refused to apologize, compensate, and continue to insist that they did nothing wrong. If you order a California roll, do you expect salmon roll?? The worst part is that they swapped out oysters for something at a much lower cost, did not compensate for the difference. They said something like it was out of season, and I should know that even though they put it on the menu. They also removed one roll and did not refund us. Did you understand that? They pretty much ripped us off!! We had to call uber to get the refund, they couldnt believe us either lol Sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen, dont waste your experience here.
Not traditional Japanese food but quantity is a lot! Servers very attentive.
Our new favorite sushi place in the neighborhood! We were very happy to find this gem, the sushis were delicious, service was great and very quick. The sushi portions were huge and lower pricing than most places. We will definitely be back.
Walk another 10 seconds down the road and pay the extra 50 cents.Your meal will come with miso soup and the tea is better. Chicken teriyaki better too
One of my go to places for cheap and plentiful sushi. The portion sizes here are great for the price and are very affordable. The staff are friendly and the orders are speedy and efficient. My favourite is the fire roll, it s delicious and and I definitely recommend it! Also the sashimi comes in huge chunks here and is nice!
Having been here a few times already so the food is certainly passable; however, don t expect anything more than that. Service is subpar and food takes forever to arrive, even when the dining room isn t at full capacity. The only nice thing is, they have a rather large menu and the combination choices are nice.
the sashimi was good but service needs a lot of work
Slow service the place was half full and I ordered 45 minutes before and it still wasn t ready making me late.
Good food, good atmosphere, nice decoration. Great Price/Quality Ratio Vegetarian options: Great variety of vegetarian sushi. Variety of dishes.
Just when I thought all sushi restaurants are the same there is Tentatsu.
Great food for price! Always had a good experience with the staff and my family always comes here
delicious and affordable
Vegetarian options: Ok variety Kid-friendliness: Lots of options Food : 4/5 |
Its the best sushi place in metro Vancouver.
Super yummy sushi rolls
Service was slow during lunch rush but the value for money and quantity of food was well worth it!
Ive only ever picked up from here but order has always been ready upon arrival. Consistently good tasting.
Good size portions and nice atmosphere.
Dependable Japanese food. Not the best but does the job when youre craving Japanese food. Sashimi is pretty good though. Good size pieces
I like to stop in here because its a great Japanese restaurant in the Burnaby Heights! I usually have the bento box if its for lunch I love the teriyaki chicken one! Quite filling even if youre very hungry... it has a little bit of everything! and is reasonably priced !!
The fish is fresh, the product is stable, and the price is reasonable.
Very tasty sushi for a low price ! Didn t like the atmosphere inside but their food is totally worth the price.
Great value and like Anton s beside it, great for leftover meals for the next day. Best miso soup I ve had Food
This is a very good Japanese restaurant. The prices are fair and the food is delicious. If you want a good food with a good price, don t hesitate on visit this place. If you like a good choice for take out, I can easily recommend Part Tray D, it s a complete family side option and with an excellent price. Congratulations to all employees.
Good sushi, good box combos, really good prices. Food is made fast. This restaurant is a go-to spot for my family.
I ordered take out and spent $60 and wanted to make sure we had ginger and they guy was going to charge me for ginger. I told the guy that my order had 6 rolls and that there should be ginger in the order and he said that they randomly put ginger on the plate and that he can t promise I ll get enough. If I could, I d give them a zero for service! I literally got 5 pieces of ginger RUDE!!!!
Good food and price is also very good .
Servers were cold and even rude throughout. Demanded tip even though we werent satisfied with our experience. It was very awkward. The food was fine, but theres better places in Hastings to spend time and money in.
This place is pretty decent but the one huge issue I have is with the quality of the rice is very poor and it kinda ruins all the sushi and other food with rice inside. The problem is it has too much water and all the rice is mushy and clumps together I think this is a very easy fix the the restaurant should really consider changing it. Other than that the food is pretty good and theres good value options.
Visited restaurant with my family at 6:30. At 7:30 all we had recieved was one roll and one order of sashimi which was a fraction of our total order. People around us who got seated after our arrival were all serves and speaking to our waitress we were offered excuses as to how busy they were but no apology. We packed up the family and left. Horrible service.
Absolutely fantastic. Generous portions. Great price. I havent had tonkatsu that good in a long time. All the meat was so tender.
Some parts of the sushi rice was hard and the food was mid. Service was good tho.
Food is always good and decent. Just the service is a hit or miss. Been going for years. The Vancouver location is not as comfy as the burnaby.
Always fresh sashimi! Excellent sushi rolls! Nice atmosphere!
Great food and atmosphere
After a day walking the PNE, I thought that sushi would be nice. This was my first time eating here, and I was very pleased to have chosen this spot. Delicious food, great service and beautiful decor. Will definitely be back.
This place has gone downhill in a big way. I had started going to Tentatsu since the only location was on Hastings & Denman in East Van. That Was Many Years Ago. I was eating with some relatives here in Burnaby Heights. Waitress was impatient & rude. Why dont these Richmond people learn manners & customer service skills Had the Chicken Teriyaki. Standard lunch fare. Nothing spectacular. How can teriyaki dish not include rice ? Then I was told rice not included, Rice is $2.50 extra. Which was outragous. Also tried the Salmon belly , which was decent. Overpriced, Poor Value for the food, Horrible Service. Wont be coming back. Will take My Business Elsewhere.
We ate lunch today with my family and a guest who was with us who happened to be here for holiday and just arrived a week ago. One of the server came to our table and we pay for our bills with extra tips so keep the change. My son ate the deep fried tempora from his order Yokohama combo and since he ate fast he chocked a bit and he did threw up on the floor and that server told us we need to pay extra $20 just because my son did vomit heck this lady is demanding us to pay more WHAT a SHAME on you. never in my life will endorse this restaurant to anyone. server SuCKs one particular server I hate her. during pay time when that server. one time its her again that I encountered, I gave my tips cash separately usually. she didnt know and all of the sudden she told us where is your tips. Money maker can you wait and do not demand for tips all you need to do is wait.
workers here talk badly about their customers in cantonese :/ overheard them talking badly about me and other customers !! food isn t that great is service is really bad . not worth going
You can find both inexpensive dishes with great value and something special here. Spacious environment for dine-in. Chef special sushi is really good. Food
Sushi and cooked food always same - poor quality. Avocados are black, rice mushy, and salmon sashimi has bones in it. The man called Cyrus is extremely rude and has no manners. Bad service. If you want better quality sushi and sashimi go else where. Ive also had tummy ache because their sashimi is not stored properly as the sashimi is warm. Avoid this place or youll get food poisoning!!
Server was super rude. We ordered YAM FRIES. We waited 40mins for yam fries and the server couldnt explain why it was taking that long. (We ordered sushi which came pretty fast) food was done and yam fries still hasnt been served. Conclusion - Waitresses were very rude, she was raising her voice and couldnt explain why our order was taking so long. I mean its just fries but for it to take 40mins.. come on 0 service skills by the waitresses
A go-to spot for delicious food at a reasonable price.
At the end of our meal the waitress personally inputted a tip amount for each of us in our table of 4 without telling us. We all would have tipped either way but she didn t tell us before hand. The manager denied the act, was rude, and then tried to blame me for not acting on it sooner. He continued to act like he forgot our table and pretended he didn t know the waitress. The restaurant was not busy at all since we went in at 8pm and there were only 2 waitresses. He finally unwillingly offered to give us free ice cream next time. It s not about the tip amount or the free ice cream, but how the waitress and manager treated us. Would not recommend to come here. If we do come back, he probably would pretend he didn t know us just like he didn t know 1 of the 2 waitresses working with him that night anyways.
Everything is perfect! Highly recommended
Been a regular for a few years; food is always great but had the worst customer service from Cyrus.
The food tasted a bit odd, especially the sashimi. The California rolls were very tasty. Really Cozy.
It was my second time here. Today I was exploring Hastings. Originally, I planned to go to another Japanese place but it was not open. Then I wanted to go to a Thai place and it was not open either. Finally, I remembered about this place and it was open. Three of us ordered three different lunch menus: one three items for $15.75, one Noodle Bento, one Tempura and Beef Tempura Lunch set. They all came with a miso soup. For the three-item lunch set, we had corn croquette, chicken karaage (fried chicken), tonkatsu (fried pork fillet). They were all better than I expected. Especially the corn croquette; it was crispy, creamy, fluffy and you can see corn inside. The pork fillet was slightly fat; so it was not too dry after being deep fried, gave a nice texture, and an extra layer of flavour. The noodle bento came with a cold noodle soup. The beef from tempura and beef teriyaki lunch set was very good. Surprisingly, the steam rice was very nice; moist and flurry. There were so much food, even though we came hungry, we could not finish. It was a great value. When prompted by the machine, it humbly asked for 12%, 15%, etc. I was pleasantly surprised. They also gave you a candy when you paid. Parking: There are free street parking along Hastings for an hour.
Will never come again. I got tummy ache, diarrhea and vomit few months ago after eating their food that I had to go to Urgent Care. Since we often go to Tentatsu for these years so I decide to give it one more chance. I avoided order any sushi and sashimi this time. I ordered ramen soup. I got diarrhea again. I think they have to improve the food quality and make sure the food provided to customer is fresh. Never never come again.
I just moved to the Heights and starting to discover local restaurants. The food is tasty here and really good value especially before 5pm. The lunch menu allows you to pick 3 items for $15.99. Added on a generous plate of short ribs to by order.
Came for a to go order. I ordered just a fried rice and waited 30 with not even a half-full restaurant. The person ordered after me probably ordered triple the amount I did and she got her first. Then they told me to wait another 5 . Last time here. Not worth the tip!
We are every week we went to ate this place sushi. But the someone of waitress had bad service, we dont want to go back again this sushi place anymore, because when I recommended someone come there ate too, and they told us this place had someone of bad service too. Now I think them right, dont need to come back again and recommend someone come to this place for sushi.
Food and service is good.
Ive noticed the standards have gone down in the last few months but today was my breaking point and I will never go back to this restaurant again so I went to dine in and ordered a beef teriyaki Don and it came rather fast and the first thing I noticed was how small the beef serving was and I mentioned to the waitress and she said she will let the cook know and she walked back to the kitchen and I saw she said something to the cook and then they chuckled and glanced at me she never came back to give me any feedback or anything she just kept her distance and occasionally I noticed she would glance over and I finished my food in like 4min and then I got up to pay and it was $15 I payed with no tip and I just couldnt believe that there getting away with such a ridiculously small serving of beef I wish I took a picture anyways I just wanted to share my experience and I will never go back to this location
comfy and nice experience, food is very delicious and a good place to go if your a big sushi lover. The customer service is AMAZING always welcoming and kind, nice environment with cherry blossoms (fake) and string lights. Overall very nice dining place 4.5/5 stars
Family oriented, I love the waitresses. Food always good. One of our favorites!!
Food was great, short ribs was kind of small. But my main complaint is that we didn t receive any customer service from the moment we walked in. Waitress never checked on me and my guest. So when it came time to pay I didn t tip and the cashier asked was everything good? And I told her kindly food was great but we didn t receive any customer service at all then she got upset with me, and snatched the receipt out of my hand after I signed and when I asked for a receipt she just threw it on the counter. This is my first time I ve actually took the time to write a bad review. Respect goes a long way.
Positives: Prices are modest, there are benched-booths for sitting in a personal space, food is okay. Negatives: The atmosphere is jangling and uncomfortable: pop radio blaring overhead with the kind of advertising that goes on yelling at you for 10 minutes between songs; staff seem harried and distracted; manager could not find a positive response to my request to turn down the radio, he was just annoyed and said he couldnt do anything about it. I appreciate they can be busy etc but part of restaurant business is to try to help a customer have a good experience. It was active but not full or terribly busy.
Unimpressed. They use lots of filler like bean sprouts or extra tempura batter to make their portions look bigger. The one bright spot is the space is large and they have nice booths. Service is also efficient but the food...
Dont expect the food to be any good. And the service is non existent. Big shiny sign doesnt equate to good quality. Honestly uomo or osaka are better. And theyre literally 100m away. Ive eaten here many times and not sure why...its never been that good
To be clear, I did not eat here. However, I did get seated and looked at the menu, and decided on something to order. The problem is that I sat at my booth for a good 15 minutes, and was not able to have a server come to me to take my order. I could not even get the attention of a server to let them know that I was ready to order. Furthermore, the table beside me was seated AFTER me, and they were still able to have their order taken. The ambiance was nice. But not nice enough to keep me seated for an extra 15 minutes for my order to be taken. I ended up leaving before anyone came to me or even looked in my direction. Instead, I went to another Japanese restaurant where I was attended to immediately. Im sure the food wouldve been good if I was able to try it.
Always great service there...the staff very clean and polite.......great food there too....been there twelve times
Took my out of town relatives for Japanese dinner. Prices were reasonable, sushi portions are large. Fresh and tasty. Service was surprisingly good. Even treat us for free ice cream after the meal. Would definitely come back again.
I haven t been to this place since before the pandemic and the food was phenomenal! It was definitely worth the poor customer service the have here which is why I would put up with it once in awhile. Just went there today and the food quality has gone down a LOT! Not to mention how pushy they were to get me out 35 mins before they even closed. Definitely going to have to find a new spot in the area to have sushi because I won t be coming back.
Good food, resonably priced.
The sashimi is huge and thick. Price is cheap Recommended
Service wasnt amazing. The staff were too busy to restock to pay attention to us. But the food was absolutely incredible and we will return because of this. Big portions at reasonable prices. Food : 5/5
Used to go to this place since it opened, but the service and quality of food has really gone down in the last 3 months. Its cheap, and theyre always understaffed so can be a bit slow. But the food isnt worth it anymore. Today was the last straw when the waitress demanded a tip after the restaurant made a mistake in our order and they got mad at us for requesting the correct item. If any restaurants first reaction when not receiving a tip is you forgot the tip, how would you like to pay? instead of why were you not happy with the service? then they definitely are not getting a tip (and my familys business) anymore.
If youre looking for value, if youre looking for size, this is the place! This is very affordable. I ordered a veggie combo, and it was massive. I couldnt finish it! My friends ordered a bantle box that is around $20 in. It literally comes with soup, ramen, teriyaki, salad, agedeshi tofu, tempera, sumono salad. The taste was okay, but the value is exceptional.
Huge rolls feels like the 1st time i made sushi
I dont like to be negative about local food spots, but truly this Japanese is one of the worst spots in Burnaby... Tuna tataki is at best 1 star quality, Cali rolls are medioker, most of the sashimi is served in XL size, at best B quality.. Ive tried this place 3 times just to give the business good chance to improve.. Unfortunately I will not be visiting again. Service is good = 4 stars , cleanliness is good = 3 stars. Food is = 1 star.
