Rated number #4 in Canada on Tripadvisor. Discover Chef Jenny's flavourful inspired cuisine using high quality ingredients sourced from a variety of trusted local producers.
Went with my hubby for my birthday and had a great time. Both my hubby and I love great food that is creative. Little did I know that Vero put in a little bit more to make the experience special by complimentary dish to try from the chef and a small but thoughtful desert dish to end the experience. The creativity and presentation of the dishes was and deserving of a "chef's kiss!" Will defineitly visit again for a getaway with my husband for special occasions when we are looking for an elevated dish to try! If you are looking for Italian food please try Vero!
Tremendous food and service. We had a variety of dishes from appetizers to desert and everything was fantastic. The lamb especially stood out for me. It was ultra tender, beautifully seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Brussels that came with it had incredible spices that I'll come back for on their own!
The restaurant’s atmosphere is fantastic, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary amuse-bouche—a crispy bite filled with tuna crudo. The seasoning had an oriental twist, which was outstanding, and the tuna itself was impressively fresh! For starters, we ordered the Black Truffle Arancini, lamb skewers, and fries. The arancini truly stood out as a highlight. The exterior had just the right level of crispiness without being overly hard, while each grain of rice was infused with the rich aroma of truffle. The addition of cheese elevated the flavors to another level, making it a dish that left us craving more. For the main course, we shared the sweet potato gnocchi. It’s not a dish we would typically choose, but we were intrigued by the unique flavor profile. It was perfectly executed and struck a balance between sweetness and texture. We unanimously agreed it’s best shared rather than enjoyed solo. Overall, the service was top-notch, the ambiance was delightful, and the food exceeded expectations. Highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable dining experience!
Absolutely phenomenal food. We had a great dining experience. Their surf and turf is to die for and their cocktails are exceptional. The staff is very accommodating. It’s small and intimate but The experience is outstanding. This is one of the few restaurants that I would probably give a six out of five.
My new favourite restaurant in the city. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like we were the only patrons in the restaurant! Our waiter was unbelievably kind, accommodating, and thorough with his care, delivery and recommendations. The food was outstanding, and the chef even came out to say hi. My friend casually mentioned how amazing the lamb skewers were and jokingly said she would love to take some home for her kids. Next thing we know, the chef had boxed up a whole set of skewers for us to take home. Unbelievable!! I will be returning countless times In the near future! Thank you for the most amazing dining experience!
Had an amazing experience at Vero Bistro! We tried their summer special "Meat Platter for 2" which came with an amazing bruschetta, refreshing octopus salad, delicious pasta and some of the greatest meat I've ever put in my mouth... :) I don't know how they do their pork, but it's more tender and flavourful than most steaks out there, seriously incredible! Steak was melt in your mouth and the accompaniment of roasted veggies, fries, arugala, and lemon aoili was the perfect balance 👌
When I walked in Vero, I’ve been stunning for the atmosphere and the classic music, server was so welcoming us and seated my friends and I. The Amuse of tonight is grilled baguette and slice butter, and Melon prosciutto salads, which are so good for appetizers. Next we’ve got this octopus 🐙 cold dish was so flavorful! Then we have artichoke fritti and My favorite gnocchi 😋 Last but not least we have our the Seafood platters, lots of muscle & clams, lobsters, salmon & codfish and fried calamari 😍 Overall, this is the restaurant that I’ve not having for so long, definitely recommend hop in and have some fine wine with unforgettable Italian dishes. I will bring my other friend next time!
What a great place for gathering. We just walk-in and luckily we still got seats at patio. Their pork tomahawk was so juicy and tender embraced by crispy surface. Well done Chef! Seafood platter which is their signature still being number one in my heart. We finished this amazing dinner with fancy and cute mango ice cream. What a wonderful night.
First time trying this place and would definitely go back. The burrata starter was amazing as was the gnocchi.
This was our first time dining at Vero Bistro. Ambiance was warm when we arrived. Started with a couple Espresso Martinis. Appetizer was escargot. Both were delicious. For mains we had the Sweet Potato Gnocchi and Pork stuffed Tortellini. Again, both very tasty and homemade. Overall we were very pleased with the meal and experience. Great way to start the night off followed by a play at The Jubilee Theatre. Will definitely go back!
The food was amazing! Great service and great ambience the wife took me here for a date night I was very impressed!
We ordered the surf and turf for 2, everything on our plate (steak, lobster tail, lamb, veggies) was absolutely delicious! The cheesecake also exceeded expectations.
Absolutely pleasant experience. The servers were great! We loved the intimate feel of the place. It was our anniversary celebration so it was just the perfect place to celebrate it. Everyone was super friendly and kind. The food was to die for. We got the surf and turf and boy was that an experience! We fell in love with the steak! Never had a beef so tender and tasty like that before. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the coconut prawns, wow just wow! We also tried the potato gnocchi and it was divine. We also got the veal meatball, it was good but not our favourite. Overall Food was so good, we forgot to take photos as we just jumped right into eating. We will be back again as we are now committed to going through the whole menu. This has now become our sweet spot!
We used to frequent Vero quite often a few years ago, and visited again tonight for a birthday after a long hiatus from dining out. In our experience, most restaurants fall quite far from their initial glory eventually, but not Vero. The food was EXACTLY as good as it was years ago, with the quality and standards of the finest bistros weve ever been to. Everything from the cocktails to the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth steak left nothing to be desired. My only wish is that the volume of my stomach was twice its size so I could have eaten more. Nothing compares to Vero. If you havent eaten here yet, get off your ass and go. You will not be disappointed.
Amazing Food and Ambience. Portions Are Great and Delicious.
A hidden gem in the heart of Kensington! It was our first time at Vero despite them being a part of the Calgary culinary scene for over 15 years. The ambiance is reminiscent of upscale retro moderne fine dining with cozy and inviting interiors for date night or a night out with friends. The fine dining restaurant was intimate, not too noisy with plenty of room between tables for privacy. Service impeccable - our server was very attentive without being intrusive, addressed special dietary needs and got us drinks that weren t even on the menu. We tried the multi- course dinner experience and every dish was built up beautifully and a level up from the previous. Chef Jenny is meticulous and passionate about her food. She came out to meet us and check on meal. A special shoutout to her . The food is delicately prepared, seasoned to perfection, meats cooked to perfect tenderness with just a touch of the crisp char. Our friends and us were stuffed by the end of the night yet still raving about the delicious meal. Though it is on the expensive side Vero is an amazing fine dining experience for special occasions and/or food enthusiasts. Parking is tricky which is always the case in Kensington. We rarely write reviews however we were truly impressed by our experience and highly recommend Vero!!
Fancy Italian restaurant. I guess the chef have been cooking Italian food for a long time. The food taste more old Italian food style than modern. Bruschetta as appetizer was a good choice and the aglio olio pasta was amazing!
Always the best
It has been a long time since I ate at a restaurant that not only had excellent food but the service was excellent as well. I regret not getting the mans name that served us but he was engaging, always kept the water glass full and described each dish that was brought out to us. The food was cooked perfectly - the salad fresh and the salmon hot. A wonderful meal - I highly recommend.
Service deserves more than 5 stars. But it was a lovely place to enjoy a special meal
Very friendly service, food was delicious with portions on the smaller side.
It was ok
Had a very good experience. The waiter was so nice and friendly. Also, the food was amazing and delicious.
I had the lobster ravioli and my girlfriend had the steak fries. Arancini to start was delicious. My portion was kind of small as you might expect at a higher end place, but quite good. Her steak was next level good though.
We love Vero Bistro! We have dined here several times, and we are never disappointed. The food is always incredible, the service is friendly and accommodating, and we never leave hungry! We started off with the prosciutto appetizer, its served with sautéed oyster mushrooms, garlic, lemon and parmesan, its a perfect combination! We then shared the house made tortellini and the steak frites. The tortellini is served with Chef Jennys delicious pork ragu sauce, which perfectly compliments these little bites of heaven! The steak, in my opinion, is a must when dining here, its a tenderloin cut served with truffle parmesan frites and peppercorn sauce. I still say its the best steak in the city! Dont forget to save room for dessert and give the tiramisu a try, its served in these cute little flower pots! Thank you, Chef Jenny, Michael, and team, we will be back!
Amazing experience! We took our team here for dinner after a conference. We all did the tasting menu, and it did not disappoint! The staff was amazing and our server Jody was awesome!
Such a fantastic seafood platter this past Thursday. Thank you Michael and Chef for a night to remember!
The food is always amazing! Enjoy the food, presentation, and service!
Food was great and very generous portions. Waitress was very attentive. Nice ambiance
My experience at Vero was absolutely incredible. The service was fast and the staff are friendly, going above and beyond to serve their customers. All of the food was delicious, especially the steak and frites and the sea food platter. The food paired wonderfully with the cocktails that were expertly crafted and recommended by Mike. Jenny s passion for cooking and her attention to detail do not go unnoticed. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Overall, it was one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of eating at in Calgary; I would recommend it to everyone and will definitely be going back.
Hubby and I came here for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our server Michael was friendly, efficient and helpful -- he recommended that we order the Signature Seafood Platter for Two; we were glad that we did! When the heavily laden platter was brought piping hot to our table, we stared at it for a few minutes since we didnt know where to start. After some deliberation, we ate the lightly seared tuna first(which was perfectly seasoned and pink in the middle) and then the succulent Champagne butter poached lobster tails. The crusted (salt and black/white pepper) salmon was buttery, soft and meltingly tender; the mussels and clams(one or two clams were still a little gritty with sand) were soft and meaty. The prawns and scallops were briny, sweet and held their texture (despite sitting for at least 15 minutes in the hot broth). A special thanks to Chef Jenny and her staff for sending us a pasta dish (linguini/fettucini?) with garlic sautéed zucchini and sun-dried tomatoes to accompany our seafood platter. The broth was absolutely amazing -- the flavourful liquor from the clams and mussels, tomatoes, and parsley was a satisfying end to our anniversary dinner. This was definitely the best seafood feast weve eaten in a long time!
What a wonderful evening! Thank you Vero. The food was delicious, the cocktails were delightful and the service was 10/10! We look forward to returning!
Heard lots of great things but weren t overall impressed with the food at the price point. We tried the signature seafood platter and also a pasta on the side and while it was plenty of food, it didn t exactly wow us. Not bad, but with a bill of over $250 it s not a place we will be returning to.
Fantastic meal service we great the the special order lobster bisque was amazing
It was okayish. The seafood platter did not taste fresh. Definitely not worth the price.
The food and service was very great.
Excellent dinner, clean restaurant and lovely atmosphere! Will definitely come back!
Stampede platter was pure heaven! Thanks Vero Bistro!
Read about this small but superbly run Bistro in Scottsdale. Made a reservation for a Calgary visit. Food was superb. Well crafted with confidence and understanding of all the ingredients. Service was casual, friendly yet professional. Recommend a must go when in Calgary.
The superb reputation is well deserved. Food was delicious, and I would say fairly priced. I very much liked their lamb arrosticini and bucatini cacio e pepe. The service was phenomenal and the staff were friendly. Definite recommend.
We really like Vero this restaurant have excellent food and the service is good
You can do better than this place. We walked past at 8pm on a Friday and they had a table available maybe we were just lucky. Walking in and seeing their trip advisor reviews and other awards from a decade ago on the walls another bad sign. This place has been riding the wave of its success from many years ago but hasn t done much in the kitchen or the vibe to impress. The truffle arancini was like a greasy black mozzeralla stick, awful. The salad is *exactly* the same as the side served with the salmon. The steak frites were just okay. The steak wasnt a nice cut or filet, it came pre-sliced. Just why? You can get better fries at a brewery. The wine list is just okay. Paid $90 for a bottle advertised as a 2019 but was a 2021 when served. The pillowed red fake leather wall is tacky. Overall It s just whatever. You won t have a bad meal here, but you won t write home about it either. Their target demo is folks who normally dine at chain restaurants in the suburbs and are looking for a vacation dinner on trip advisor. Not for people who live around here. It s out of place and out of touch. I m sure it was impressive years ago. But it s 2024 and you can do much better in Calgary.
I recently visited Vero with high expectations, bolstered by glowing reviews and a seemingly delightful ambiance. Unfortunately, our experience fell notably short of the welcoming standard one would anticipate. Despite securing a reservation well in advance, upon our arrival we were informed with a nonchalant air that our table was not ready. The staff suggested a brief walk around the neighborhood as a filler a suggestion we took in stride, expecting a swift resolution upon our return. Regrettably, the situation did not improve. After our stroll, we were told to wait further as the current diners were still enjoying their dessert. This additional delay extended our wait time to over 30 minutes, casting a shadow over our evening. Throughout this ordeal, the response from the restaurant staff lacked the professionalism and proactive hospitality one would expect in such scenarios. No sincere apologies were offered, nor were any accommodations made to ease our discomfort. It was disheartening to see such disregard for guest satisfaction, particularly when the essence of hospitality leans heavily on exemplary service and respect for diners time. While I understand that unforeseen delays can occur, the manner in which they are handled speaks volumes about a restaurants ethos and operational excellence. I hope this feedback serves as a constructive prompt for Vero to reassess and elevate their customer service approach, ensuring that future guests do not have to endure a similar predicament.
We had my Graduation dinner here this week, and we opted for the family style dinner for a table of 11 adults. The chefs dinner is a four course meal of their picks of the menu (with each course having multiple dishes to try). We started with an assortment of delicious bites including fancy aged ham, fresh cheese with bruschetta, and seared tuna. Next up we enjoyed escargot, black truffle arancini and lamb skewers then followed by a ravioli dish, cacio e pepe presented in a cheese lattice bowl, sweet potato gnocchi, and finally their delicious steak frites. Dessert was a split offering of lemon tiramisu presented in a terracotta pot topped with a bit of mint or a choux pastry with ice cream / whipped cream with a chocolate sauce. Meal was overall simply great, service was friendly although I had to ask what most dishes were but that was likely due to the larger size of our table. Wine pairings were tasty and their non-alcoholic seltzers were a huge hit with everyone at the table. Parking is a bit trickier as they dont have a dedicated lot, however there is ample street parking available after 6pm nearby. They have a little patio as well. Well definitely be back! Dietary restrictions: Easily able to accommodate a peanut allergy, and subbed a course for the affected party member. Wheelchair accessibility: Able to accommodate a small wheelchair/walker. Bathrooms are roomy enough to allow for movement and assistance if necessary. The front entrance has a turn that could limit larger wheelchairs from easily making the turn, but shouldnt be an issue for most.
Food was great, service was great, friendly staff with great attitude, well informed on wine and meal information. Was pricey but for the amount and quality it was certainly worth it. Looking forward to going back again Food : 5/5
We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Vero. We couldn t have been happier with the staff and food. Thank-you for a wonderful evening!
Love the food Vegetarian options: Black truffle Arancini , Sweetheart potato Gnocchi, Vegetarian Homemade Ravioli, Pasta.. Food : 5/5 | Service
Celebrating my joyful wonderful dinner. Complements to the Friendly staff such an amazing customer service. Amazing experience with the chef . Absolutely top notch delicious food. Highly recommended for an intimate grandeur atmosphere. Thank you Thank you.
Nice and small so you will probably want a reservation at this great little restaurant in Kensington. We ate at Queens Breakfast Cocktails which is owned by the same guy and were very pleased with the experience so we had to try Vero. Service was top notch and the atmosphere was clean and modern. Especially liked the music which was a great selection and not too loud. Great selection of cocktails and interesting appetizers. The whole menu sounds delicious and they even have like a tasting menu where you get a little bit of many different entrees. Also, I really loved that there were not kids roaming the restaurant like at Ruth s Chris or Ceasars for example. Highly recommend for upscale Italian and will definitely return to try other dishes.
I never write reviews and my boyfriend and i agreed that Vero Bistro is more than deserving to be my first. We had such an amazing experience from the moment we walked in the door. We were greeted right away by our server i wish i could remember his name (maybe daniel?) as he was amazing. So warm and inviting. The restaurant felt fancier than i was expecting so i was glad we decided to dress more formal. He seated us and explained the menu to us. It was a surprise for my boyfriends 25 birthday so i had already planned to do the shared dinner experience. What an experience it was. we ordered espresso martinis to start and asked our waiter if they could bring two glasses of champagne with our first course which he happily did. The chef started us with a free appetizer to get us started on our dinner. From beginning to end each course was amazing. Im not sure if this would be classed as fine dining but this was the fanciest dinner we have ever attended, and it was so amazing. Each course was so beautifully crafted and tasted amazing. Chef Jen was able to combine sweet and savoury with every dish. The value of this meal is amazing for the experience, service, and courses you get. Our server was amazing our glasses of water never went below half and even other servers popped in and checked on us to make sure we were still doing okay. Our candle went out halfway through and our server re lit it for us which was a very small gesture but just shows how attentive they are. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for an intimate dinner with amazing food and service. Thanks again Vero Bistro team for a night to remember and chef Jen for the best food I think we have ever tasted.
The food delicious and the atmosphere really fit. There was a hair in the food, but we got compensation so its fine. The server was really nice and explained us parts of the menu. The bathroom was very clean (they should probably add an urinal). Would come again.
Food is just amazing! Our server was good as well. We always have an amazing time there!
Vero is one of my all-time favourite restaurants in Calgary and has been so for at least 10 years. The staff are so quite knowledgable and interesting. The food is always spectacular in sauce taste presentation and exactly perfectly well done for texture. The quaint ambiance cannot be compared. this is a true gem in the heart of Kensington It is absolutely a consistent preference of anyone that has been there once!
WOW! What happened to you, Vero? Last night was shi... very disappointing. I remember going to Steak and Frites night and being blown away by a buttery, juicy, flavorful, and amazing experience. Yesterday night, for an important anniversary to boot, We had a non-existent service, All dishes failed on some level, and the steak ... more like Misteak. I was not in Alberta dining in a fine restaurant feasting on our most sacred bovine cuts of delectable delights. No, this was some unfortunate gas alley protein slab of sadness. The taste left inside the palette also took away from the celebration. Its official. Your time atop of the heap is well over. (Gut feeling said Modern Steak. Ill never make that Misteak again. )
Classic New York feel, small restaurant with a big heart. The Chef definitely uses her heart. Very flavorful food. I want to book again tomorrow lol.
Great food, excellent service, my favourite date spot.
The seafood platter is phenomenal, amazing staff. Vero never misses
I had a craving for Chef Jennys food. The take away i ordered did not disappoint. The details in every dish were impressive. The level of detail and professionalism is beyond compare. Thank you Vero! I wanted to say that I dined again this week and I am so happy with my decision to visit Vero again. The wine selection and suggestion with the dish Id picked was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about Chef Jenny and all the staff. Thank you again for an incredible meal, wine, atmosphere and great staff!
A beautiful dining experience! Small and intimate restaurant. Food is five star. Pricy, but food is worth every penny. Parking: Paid street parking available but its a busy street with lots of restaurants. So finding space is mostly based on luck.
Really warm and welcoming atmosphere. Great service. Generous portions. My favourite is lobster risotto. Will come back!
After reading the reviews online here we booked a table. We were a group of 4 visiting from out of town. The introduction we got on entry was off hand even though we turned up on time. The waiter pointed to our table and said back there. We sat down and read over the menu and agreed to have the Chefs surf and turf for three people. One of the group was not hungry. Also ordered a bottle of italian wine. The wine list is limited to Italiana and French red wines and they appear to all be from just 4 vineyards. The wine we ordered was suggested as a pairing with the surf and turf. As starters we had Burrata and the chef also sent out complimentary crustini with tomato and anchovy. Both were good. The main dish surf and turf arrived on a wooden board piled high with steak lamb chops and three lobster tails. This dish was very average in both presentation and flavour it was pub grub standard not restaurant standard. But the price was definitely high end Canadian restaurant price. Some time after the main dish arrived lobster/prawn ravioli was delivered. This was the most disappointing dish. The pasta was thick and over cooked. The filling was edible but not great. We did explain our disappointment to the waiter and he accepted our criticism graciously. There are better restaurants in Calgary.
Food was okay. Ambiance was nice. Service was great.
Delicious food and fantastic service! Looking forward to coming back and trying the surf and turf.
It has been a few years since my last visit but Ooo ah I am reminded what a lovely place this is for dinner! We had the signature seafood platter and steak frites, beautifully presented and just delicious! Service was friendly and attentive and made for a wonderful anniversary celebration. Thank you vero!
Very good food and best service I have experienced. Would come again!
An incredible dining experience. I took my girlfriend here for a late Valentine s dinner last night and we had an amazing time. First of all, the ambience of the restaurant is immaculate, it s perfect for a classy date night. The candles and lighting really added to the romance. Now for the food, we decided to start with the prosciutto which was a delicious starting dish. The oyster mushrooms were cooked beautifully and the cheese fondue over top really elevates every part. Then we had the surf and turf platter which was a FEAST. The steak was perfectly cooked and probably the most tender steak I ve ever had in my life, the lobster was so fresh and buttery and the other elements of the platter (frites, roasted vegetables, pasta) really brought the whole thing together. Don t even get me started of the dessert we had a profiterole, which was the most perfectly balanced dish to end off our meal. Not too sweet and filling, but insanely delicious. All of the staff worked so seamlessly together, it really made our special occasion feel that much more special. If you haven t been here yet, definitely add it to your list of must try restaurants in Calgary. You won t regret it! Dietary restrictions: I have a nut allergy and they double checked everything that came out was safe for me to eat.
Cocktails were good..service was ok, food not so much. My spouses pasta was overcooked and mine was too al dente..I guess I cant expect much tho, having an Italian mom that truly knows how pasta is cooked properly. The cotton candy wrapped fois grais and peanuts were odd. Also they didnt have spoons for spaghetti which was weird. We also felt extremely rushed. Wondering why this place has so many good reviews. Must have been an off night. Most likely wont go back..
Our meals are always delicious. Never get disappointed. Always keep their consistency. Staff are friendly and knowledgable. Love their red feature wall!!!
Wow! What an evening. We wanted to celebrate with my sister visiting from Ontario. Upon ordering our meal, we were served a surprise: a lollipop of pate de foie gras wrapped in a light meringue. Then another surprise: a beet puree on a slice of yellow pepper. Then came the appetizers. the lamb arrosticini was the only disappointment of the whole meal. It was very fatty. Our entrees were fabulous. We had to have desert. They were fabulous also. Overall we had a fantastic meal, and an enjoyable evening. The ambiance , the service, the food made for a very memorable and special evening.
One of the best restaurants in YYC. Amazing food with great ambience. Would highly recommend the lunch special. 3 courses for $25 Dinner is around 30 a plate and 100% worth it.
Steak was delicious and the service was excellent.
Amazing food and service. Nice little Bistro for a romantic meal for 2 or a celebration with a group, even tho its quite small in size, you can fit one table for 10pax.
This place never let you down. It is always amazing. We will be back
We went here for dinner on Xmas Eve, and it was outstanding. I had the steak frites, and it was delicious. The waiter was attentive and the restaurant was sold out. Definitely try this restaurant out. Highly recommended. Parking: Its in Kensington, so parking can be a bit difficult to obtian.
This place is my local favorite
Delicious. Especially loved the Butternut squash soup and the gnocchi.
WOW! Honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. First our waitress, whose name I cannot remember and that is terrible, was unbelievable! She was so kind and friendly and an absolute pleasure to have visit our table, would have loved if she even sat down and joined us!! The food was delicious. The flavours were divine and the portion sizes were perfect! I would love to try every single dish at this restaurant... I just might!!!!
Food at Vero is always outstanding. The surf and turf platter is a must try! Great selection of wine. Always consistent in quality, flavours, and service - which I find lacks in most restaurants in Calgary. Definitely recommend Vero for your next date night.
We had a great experience, celebrated our 5th marriage anniversary at this restaurant and it was the best choice I could make. Everything tasted Fresh and great quality. Loved the Mac n Cheese with Lobster sauce in it. Our main Entree Surf & Turf was absolutely delicious and more than enough serving for two people. I also wanted to give a shoutout to our waitress tonight. She was very hospitable and friendly. Wish I could give more than 5 stars.
Great cozy place. The food is awesome, and the service is just right.
I recommend this restaurant for your anniversary or fancy birthday celebration. Their cocktails are delicious and the food is mouth watering. The staff are knowledgeable and make your occasion memorable by making you feel special.
Lovely spot for date night or with friends. Its quite small, so would recommend a reservation. I was pleased because Im doing dry January and they had several non-alcoholic cocktails available! Food was good, but didnt blow my mind. Id go here again if some friends wanted to, but may not specifically seek it out. Dont get me wrong, I wasnt disappointed, just my personal perspective! Staff was friendly and attentive!
Amazing food and service, great spot for date night!
The venue is very lovely! The red wall definitely took my attention at first glancs entering the restaurant. The only main concern is that it was too dim. This restaurant is definitely more of having an intimate moment with the people you go with. The food was great, we got the Surf and Turf, we were on a good full from it. Lots of different taste we experienced from it! The photo shows the main course of the Surf and Turf. The pricing was fair. Service is great, since the restaurant is small, theyre more likely to take care of you often than usual. I recommend if youre into fine dining to add this in your list!
Deluxe dinner, night out with friends. Delightful. The pic doesnt do it justice.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Doesn t look like anything on the outside but the inside is spectacular! The manager is very serious when it comes to making people s experiences great with the fine dining and food. The service was very professional and takes in peoples suggestions to make the best quality food and experience for everyone. Great place for a fancy date or night out!
Great Valentines day menu...food was amazing
Food is excellent. Only downside is the 50$ corkage fee whish isnt reasonable at all. But other than that, great wine list and good service.
Food is good but price has increased over the years to a point now where you have to think twice if its worth the money.
The food and service is exceptional. A quiet quant atmosphere. A great night out.
Was a tad pricey, but man oh man, was it ever worth it. You wanna see your wife dance while she eats? Take her here!! My wife was so happy. I was happy. It was quiet and intimate and our server was great. I can t believe I forget her name, she was wonderful!
The food was really good. Service is quite good as well. I liked the atmosphere and the lighting, but the place is quite small and you may sit pretty close with other tables.
The service was delightful and the mocktail was to die for. The food is good as well, perfect little cozy restaurant for a date night!
Five stars
Honestly worst birthday meal of my life, I was so disappointed. I dont know how this place has such high ratings. The food was totally mediocre. Service was ok. I ordered the risotto and I swear on my life, it was no more than 3 tablespoons. I couldn t believe it for the price. I wouldn t recommend anyone to go and waste their money on this overrated place.
Good service and atmosphere but pasta and calamari did not slap, Im sorry
Finally made it out and the quality did not disappoint classiest steak + fries I ve ever had. This small dining experience was soooooo good. Staff were wonderful!
Amazing menu and good service
This is what quality is all about. The server was very kind and apologetic she had to sit us later than our reservation time. Got some complimentary dessert and skewers! BUT I wanna talk about how amazing and flavorful the surf and turf was. The chef must ve put her soul into that my goodness. I enjoyed every bite and cleaned every single plate! First time there and def not my last.
We came here for my Birthday. We had their 4 course special on a Wednesday. It was probably one of the best steaks Ive ever had. Great wine pairing. We were given little side sample dishes compliments of the chef and they were all great. Good food and good service.
The Food was great Chef Jenny is the best Chef in Calgary
Found hair in their bruschetta, and we weren t even offered a replacement and still got charged for it. Do better!
Exquisite food, and very nice staff!
What an incredible experience! Thank you to everyone for a great dinner and evening!!
We were delightfully surprised when Chef Jenny herself brought the main platter of food (Surf and Turf for Two), which included Grilled Black Angus Beef Tenderloin, herb butter sauce; Grilled Free Range Lamb Chops, Barolo reduction; Butter Poached Lobster Tail; House Made Tortellini, stuffed with roasted pork & vegetables; mortadella, slow-cooked Berkshire pork Bolognese; Signature Coconut Prawns, mango aioli; Truffle Parmesan Frites, lemon aioli; and Roasted Vegetables (eggplant, zucchini)--to our table. Our servers, Michael and Riley, were solicitous without being overbearing. We had a great date night, and a terrific start to our May long weekend.
This place is my favorite spot in Calgary. Ive been here a few times. Food and service is always top knotch.
WOW! Such a great meal. We don t go out to eat often because I often come out saying I could ve don t better at home. But this meal put me in my place. We did the surf and turf spear Al so got to try a few dishes and there was nothing that disappointed. Excited to come back and try some more of the chef s offerings.
Dish presentation, and explanation were exceptional. Wine list was crazy awesome.
First, the bartender was quite talented. We had two perfect martinis and a wonderful bottle of wine, ending with a 20 year twany port. The food was beautifully plated. Wish the escargot was pared with a nice French bread. The pasta was perfect but the stew was just plain. Over all satisfied and will be happy to come back to see how they improve.
Charming little spot with a great menu. Loved the meal and the little white lights. Food
Without a doubt the best meals weve ever had! Props to the chef and all the staff. Waiters were friendly and helpful even though they were pretty busy. Interior was cozy and beautifully lit. Also the wines paired with the meals were superb. Thank you for an incredible experience.
Usually love this place. Got the take home dinner this time. Very dissapointing. The lasagna has nothing between the layers and was bone dry. The sauce on the steak was was bordering on disgusting. The arancini balls were amazing. The mango tiramisu was very good. Would eat in again. Will not have the take home meal again.
My wife and I went to Vero last night for a date night. Ill start off by saying that the food was delicious, but unfortunately, a couple issues resulted in the overall experience not being very enjoyable for us. We arrived at 730 and were seated at a very small table, which by itself is not a major issue. We ordered a glass of wine and a cocktail, both of which were very tasty. When our cocktails arrived, we ordered the surf and turf experience for 2 with wine pairings. The food arrived in just under 10 minutes. I have no idea how thats possible considering the order consisted of a shrimp salad, steak, lamb chops, pasta, lobster, and fries, but maybe that speed is a plus for some people. The salad came first, and at that point we were pretty much already out of space. Less than a minute later, the rest of the food arrived, and the server had to move everything to the edge of the table to make it all fit, and the plate for the main course was actually hanging over the edge of the table. It was now 7:50, 20 minutes after we arrived, and we had a cocktail, 3 glasses of wine, a large salad, and a massive board with the rest of the food in front of us. My wife and I are very lucky in that we have had the opportunity to go to many upscale restaurants, and this was the first time we have ever felt this rushed and uncomfortable. When we made a comment that we were concerned that things were going to fall over, our server brought a second table from the back and attached it to ours which we did appreciate. When we asked why the salad isnt brought out first, giving us a chance to enjoy it, we were told thats how they used to do it, but the current chef insists on everything going out at the same time. What this leads to, is by the time we have the salad and our first drinks, the rest of the food is cold. When our bill arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the wine pairing had been taken off ($38 on a $250 bill). It turned out however that this was not the case, as the server told us she has made a mistake and forgotten to add the wine pairing. We were then brought the full bill. On a separate note, this is the first restaurant at this price point I have been to that doesnt take American Express, another small inconvenience. Given the overwhelmingingly positive reviews this restaurant has, I would like to think that this was an off night, and I would encourage others to give it a try despite our own experience. I would encourage management to take a look at the pacing of their service, and how they can ensure that customers dont feel rushed. Again the food and atmosphere were amazing, and we were genuinely sad that we didnt get to properly enjoy it.
Surf and Turf platter is so amazing! The desserts are so tasty too. Would recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Lovely place. Amazing food. Great service!
Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at Vero Bistro in Kensington, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. We were a larger group we opted for a family style experience, and from start to finish, the service was truly outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our evening was enjoyable, making us feel welcome and attending to our every need. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, exuding a warm and inviting atmosphere. There was a delightful energy in the space, creating an ambiance that made us feel right at home. As we embarked on our culinary journey, a few standout dishes immediately caught our attention. The 5J Jamon Iberico de Bellota, sourced from Jabugo, Spain, was a true delight. This 36-month-aged Cinco Jotas ham, made from 100% Iberico, free-range, acorn-fed pigs, was served with marinated olives, offering a harmonious combination of flavors that left us wanting more. Another highlight was the house-made veal meatballs. Slow-cooked in Berkshire pork Bolognese sauce and accompanied by reggiano cheese, these meatballs were nothing short of sublime. Each bite was packed with rich, savory goodness. The bruschetta at Vero Bistro is a must-try. Its simplicity and freshness are truly remarkable, and the flavor combinations are nothing short of perfect. It was a delightful appetizer that set the tone for the rest of the meal. One dish that particularly stood out was the black truffle arancini. Made with Porcini mushroom, fontina AOP, and truffle Dijon, these crispy rice balls were playfully presented in a classic truffle box. The combination of flavors and textures was a treat for both the palate and the eyes. Moving on to the main courses, a few highlights caught our attention. The bucatini cacio e pepe with truffle and Pecorino Romano was a true indulgence. The rich truffle flavor elevated the classic pasta dish, and the Pecorino added a delightful tanginess. The steak frites featuring grilled Black Angus beef tenderloin, herb butter sauce, parmesan frites, and lemon aioli was a perfect example of a well-executed classic. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, while the lemon aioli was hands down one of the best Ive ever tasted. The grilled free-range lamb chops, served with heirloom carrot puree, seasonal vegetables, and a Barolo reduction, were simply delectable. The lamb was tender and flavorful, and the accompaniments added a wonderful depth of taste. One of the highlights of the evening was the signature seafood platter for two. In fact, the portion was so generous that it could easily satisfy more than two people. This impressive dish comprised mussels, clams, prawns, scallops, two varieties of seasonal fish, calamari, and a lobster tail, all complemented by a pasta aglio e olio. It was a seafood lovers dream come true. To end our memorable evening, we indulged in a light lemon and blueberry cheesecake. This summery dessert was the perfect way to conclude our dining experience at Vero Bistro. Overall, our night at Vero Bistro was one to remember. The exceptional service, cozy atmosphere, and outstanding culinary creations left a lasting impression on us. I cant wait to return to this hidden gem in Kensington. If you have a passion for the very best ingredients prepared with talent and love, I highly recommend and encourage you to experience Vero Bistro for yourself.
Love it
the company is cheating people of money
Sat on the patio and had 3 appys, couple beers and the gnocchi. Everything was spectacular, the server was accommodating and value was on point.
Amazing food we had the surf and turf and the sweet potato gnocchi.
My husband and I had such a great evening here. The food was so delicious, the service was great and we loved the atmosphere. A new favorite place of ours. We will be back again.
Great restaurant!!! Food is awesome, service outstanding!! Highly recommended. Food : 5/5
Excellent all around. Very impressed with the food. The steak was so tender and nice. All other dishes were flavourful too. Would definitely come back again.
Excellent food, love it
Weve always loved this place. Chef delivers awesome food with high quality ingredients. I dont think weve been disappointed with anything on their menu. Their sister restaurant Queens is also fantastic. Keep up the good work guys
Great food! Only unfortunate thing was that they were out of certain things and did not give us the heads up until only after we sat down, and it created disappointment amongst us. They brought out a bite on the house, but I think they could have gone another step. Nonetheless, server was courteous, and food came out warm, and tasty. Worth a try! Dietary restrictions: They were kind enough to run a lactose free risotto.
Outstanding food, excellent service. We came here for our anniversary and will definitely be going back soon!
intimate restaurant, great for date night, best food in town.
Delicious high cuisine quality food. The server, Nick, was very friendly. My only concern is the noise from other tables, it is almost impossible to hear anything if someone talking to you.
We came here for our anniversary dinner and it was worth it. We had the Surf and Turf and everything was fresh and delicious. Our waiter explained everything we needed to know and also gave us excellent service. The ambience is beautiful and romantic. It was a wonderful experience. Parking: Free parking across the street. A short walk to the restaurant. It could be busy and difficult to find free parking depending on the time you go.
Vero NEVER disappoints. Everything is so delicious and the service is great.
Absolutely delightful experience This place is a magic that turns a normal day into extraordinary Food
The server was very kind and professional. They gave us excellent service. We had the Surf and Turf and everything was perfect and delicious. The ambience is fancy and romantic. Food
Veros food was excellent with awesome customer service. Every time we go we always get high quality made courses. Will always go back!!!
Vero bistro is my favorite, we have been here probably 20+ times, we always come here for special occasion and we always love it. My favorite is sweet potato gnocchi, seafood stew, and steak and fries. Their pastas are really good too and they have great wine list! Their seafood platter is also really good one but this one might be limited item as it is often sold out. Tonight, we went for birthday dinner and we had surf and turf. It came with lamb chops, steak and fries, lobster tail, roasted veggies, and pasta. Everything was delicious, the size of lobster tail was large, the sauce for lamb was really good! One thing was, it used to come with coconut shrimp salad but we did not get the salad tonight. I wonder they forgot to serve it or they cut it off from surf and turf. The restaurant is not big, seating is very close to tables next to you, noise level is usually high, but this place has friendly atmosphere and I like it. Service is normally good but sometimes hit and miss. There is one server who always serves us, I found she could be a bit arrogant depends on the day, and everytime that happens, I get disappointed. But I still keep coming back because I love their food. In addition, they have special event nights with special menu/ingredients, those nights are fantastic, I d highly recommend to subscribe to their email news letter if you are interested. Overall, thank you for delicious food, I ll definitely come back!
Very intimate and romantic. The vibe and energy was really good. Service was super friendly and she gave amazing recommendations. We ordered the calamari, prawn salad, lobster and steak 2 can dine, homemade ravioli and passion fruit crème brûlée Dietary restrictions: We don t eat pork and they accommodated that with food and gave us substitutions!
Lamb skewers melted in our mouths. Such a good marinade. Escargot and lamb chops were so tender and cooked perfectly. So full of flavor. Highly recommend!
AHHHHmazing!!! It was delicious Everything was also beautiful The atmosphere is so unique. As soon as you walk in, youre transported to a different place. Its romantic, moody, cozy and relaxed all at the same time. I just wish I lived closer so I could go more often!
The food was amazing! The seafood platter was the best I ve ever had. Service was to notch and the atmosphere was wonderful. I think everyone should give this gem in Kensington a try!!! Thank you for an amazing dinner!!
This is the best restaurant!
Amazing service all around. Super friendly and attentive staff. We opted for the family style dinner - a four course meal of the chefs picks of the menu. They will happily accommodate preferences, allergies and dislikes. The only thing I mentioned was Id like to have their escargot and our server ensured it was in one of our courses. Our first course had 3 incredible appetizers. The second course had two more. Third course was two amazing entrees and the desserts (fourth course) were beautiful and delicious. We were totally stuffed by the end so, if you come for the family style dinner, come on an empty stomach! We also opted for the recommended wine pairings for this meal and it was really a remarkable way to have dinner.
I had the chef s tasting menu. They happily accommodated my dietary preferences. I was reminded of my time in Paris. There was no rush to finish up and pay. The Gnocchi was a bit sweet for me as it s made with sweet potatoes - it was nice to try it.
No idea why this place has such good reviews. The food was not it. Tried a variety of dishes and I have to say I would not order a single one again. Steak was over cooked and bland, had a couple bites and sent it back. They comped the steak but i wouldnt come back again. Alot of great restaurants in Calgary, unfortunately I found this one to be a big miss.
The food was by far better than what I remember from about 10 years ago. I wish they wouldnt put those curtains. It makes the room so much smaller and suffocating. It also makes the place very uninviting from outside. The furniture inside could use some updating. Overall it was a great experience, both food and service were great. The Lamb skewers were out of this world. The arancinis were perfectly crispy outside and soft and gooey inside. The mushroom crostinis were very yummy; but Id change the bread though. It was like a very flat tasting white bread. I think some bread with more character, both in flavor and texture, like a baguette or sour dough, would do the mushrooms better justice. Our server seemed a bit inexperienced, but very sweet, which made the experience nice. Id def go back. Only if I could see a bit more from outside...
Last night, we had the pleasure of dining at Vero Bistro in Kensington. It was absolutely amazing!!! We had the Escargots de Bourgogne and Baby Calamari for appetizers, the Lobster Risotto and Venetian Seafood Stew for entrees and cheesecake for desert. Everything was delicious. The portions are generous and the service was outstanding. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. We will definitely be back!
11/10 s! My boyfriend and I decided to try Vero after hearing so many great things about it online. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The service is outstanding - everyone is so personable, friendly, and attentive to details. Michael served us and was such a pleasant human. He had great insights on menu recommendations, and went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our evening. The food is on another level of its own - full of flavours, and incredible texture. We got the escargot, black truffle arancini, the surf and turf, and tiramisu. Everything was phenomenal. If I had the stomach for it, I would probably order the entire menu. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Fantastic experience. Had a client dinner and the place was perfect. Fantastic menu. Incredible service and never felt rushed. Shot out to Chef Jenny and her team for having such passion!
From the moment we walked in I knew this place was on another level. We had the family style dinner chef selection and it was amazing. Started with some fresh olives, then a squash soup with bruschetta that was fresh and delicious. Followed by lamb skewers that were sweet and salty, served with black truffle arancini which was soft and crunchy and very tasty. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly and the ravioli stuffed with caramelized onion, potato and ricotta had excellent flavour. Service was great and the wine excellent as well! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to go on a date or to enjoy a romantic meal. Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating with dietary restrictions
Good place. Memorable experience.
I recently celebrated a quiet birthday at Vero Bistro, a charming restaurant tucked away on bustling Kensington Main Avenue. The ambiance was beautiful, offering a quiet and dark setting, perfect for an intimate celebration. Conveniently located, it provided a peaceful escape from the busy surroundings. We chose the chefs menu, a choice weve made at other restaurants in the past and have always really enjoyed. On arrival, we were met with excellent service. The staff was attentive, checking on us without disrupting our conversations. The four-course meal, each with three dishes, promised a culinary journey. However, I was disappointed to find that the chefs tasting didnt feature anything exclusive, making me question its value compared to ordering items separately from the regular menu. Despite this, the food was a delight. The sweet potato gnocchi with candied bacon stole the show, showcasing Vero Bistros expertise in this dish. The steak frites were perfectly cooked and tender, although a bit more seasoning would have elevated the experience. The mushroom arancini impressed, but the truffle flavor was slightly overpowering; a bit less would have sufficed. The garlic-heavy escargot was divisive, as some enjoyed it while others, like me, prefer a more buttery flavor. The lamb skewers and bruschetta served as delightful starters with excellent flavors. The dessert, featuring lemon ricotta cheesecake and blueberry crème brûlée, provided a sweet and satisfying end to the meal. The smaller portion sizes were appreciated, considering how stuffed we were by the end. While we thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the dishes we had would have been significantly cheaper ordered directly off the menu instead of as part of the chefs tasting. Some menu items, like the oyster mushrooms on prosciutto, fell short of expectations, making us wish we had the opportunity to choose something different. I also would have preferred the opportunity to try one of the seafood options instead of the ravioli since we had two pasta dishes and no seafood In the future, we might opt for a DIY family-style meal, creating our own selection from the regular menu. Despite these considerations, Despite these considerations, Vero Bistro left a positive impression, and we would likely return for the inviting ambiance and delicious dishes. Parking: Make sure you arrive early to find parking, at 5pm it was a nightmare and took over 20 minutes to find a space due to all the traffic exiting the downtown core we were stuck bumper-to-bumper!
Very nice. Very small restaurant.
Great place for a celebration with a cozy atmosphere and wonderful food!
Cramped and uncomfortable atmosphere. Worst meal Ive had in 35 years of living in Calgary. Server did not connect with any of us and spoke so fast we didnt understand her. She took our appetizer of prosciutto to another table then somehow tried to hide the fact in her quick delivery that she would give it to us after our main course. I asked her to repeat this and then told her that we were not interested in eating our appetizer after the main course. Then this appetizer appeared on the check as comped. Arrogant and incompetent and by the way the cognac that you brought us tasted of mold.
I would rate as a 0 star if I could. It was the worst service Ive ever had in Calgary. The waitress was extremely arrogant and rude. I couldnt believe that she works in the hospitality industry. She ignored me totally: she didnt bring ice, which i asked her for my drink; she delivered the appetizer that I ordered to a different table (so I never got my food); she asked if I needed her to refill my wine glass, looked at my empty glass and left. ??? I am not sure what she has against women but Ive never been treated this way before.
Chef Jenny is simply amazing at creating flavor combinations you cant find anywhere else in the city. We love coming to this cozy restaurant where were always treated like family. One of Calgarys best restaurants for sure
Delish food, great flavours & beautiful plating! Would go back again for sure!
Consistently amazing food and service. What else can I say? Superb all around.
We had dinner at Vero Bistro on our recent visit to Calgary. We had read about Vero and it was highly rated. We were not disappointed. The service was exceptional - attentive but not too in your face...the perfect balance! The menu looked so interesting that we actually dithered over what we wanted...deciding initially on the surf and turf special, but then settling on the arancini (which were just super and I know that because my husband makes wonderful arancini), the steak tartare (delicious - one of the best we have ever had), I had the caccio e pepe special with bucatini (honestly I grew up in Italy and couldnt have made it better myself and the pasta was perfectly al dente) and the lamb chops (tenderly cooked with a lovely barolo reduction and beautifully cooked asparagus)...we finished with the lemon tiramisu and cappuccinos. This is a small restaurant and you will want to make a reservation in advance. We will definitely be back next time we are in Calgary.
Love this place, everything was amazing. Great food and service
Outstanding. One of our favorite places in Calgary.
Surf and turf special was a delight.
Great good and service . Definitely coming back.
Food was great.
The food was very nice. Staffs were friendly and they tried their best to help us choosing food. Give us few opinions. The place was really clean and nice to take pictures. I suggest to go to this restaurant!
Not as good as I expect.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Veal meatballs, amazing. Steak & frites, Cmon, just awesome. Service was great and its a nice, quaint venue. Really enjoyable experience. Will definitely be back again soon.
Everything we seemed to eat was the best iteration of that meal we d ever eaten (except maybe the tiramisu) If you re on the fence about going here, just go here, it s amazing all around
We booked it based on reviews for our first night in Canada. The outside did not look much promising between two take-away-bars. And: please, ignore the interior, too! Inside it looks like a black hole with tables, the patio is simple but nice. However: still 5 well deserved stars, because the focus does not have to be on the seats and tables, when it is on excellent food, amazing tastes, nice wine pairings and a perfect, professional service! We had a phantastic 4-course-dinner there and already figure out how to come back. Thanks for this great experience!!
Had the most delicious dinner here. Food is amazing, service is good, great ambiance/decor in an intimate setting. Hope this place stays around for a long time.
Great food, cute place, its quite a distance from Se but the food was worth the drive. My 2 year old loved the pasta and meat balls. My partner loved the steak. Staff were very professional and knowledgeable. Wish i could remember the name of the man that took our order on the 18th of July. He was great. Will recommemd this place
Steak frites
Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Its the quality you want & a hidden gem. Chef Jenny does amazing things.
The best restaurant experience Ive ever had in my life. Great service. Food was fantastic. I have no complaints.
One of the best dining experiences in Calgary! Food was amazing, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Definitely recommend!
Restaurant says that closes 10 pm. However, we arrived at 9 p.m. in this Friday night and the hostess said that the kitchen was as already closed. Excuse me?
We followed the advice of fellow reviewers and got the steak and frites and it was amazing!! So tender and flavourful. We also had the sweet potato gnocchi which was also good.
Extra stars just for the amazing service and servers! Food taste was bland and especially the portion of my roast lamb chops was realy tiny, for the price! Feel the pricing is high for the taste and portion sizes.
Favourite restaurant in the city!
Pricey, but delicious. We had the seafood platter for two and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The side pasta that it came with was very nice as well. The bruschetta appetizer was the best Ive ever had. Nice place for a splurge or special occasion.
My uncle came from another country to visit us and chose this place for us to have dinner! We arrived at 09:05pm. The hostess informed that we could not have dinner there because the kitchen would close soon the restaurant closes at 10:00pm. ! We were upset that we couldnt have dinner at this restaurant and we had to look for another one the same night. I hope one day to have another experience and be able to change my review !
Excellent service, great wine, great food. We split the surf and turf special and it was marvelous.
I absolutely love this place, their prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are good too. I was here 7 years ago and went back again yesterday, quality is still just as amazing. I would definitely recommend the pasta dishes and the wine here is not bad either. The service was fantastic and I loved the atmosphere, would definitely come back again.
Great food with great service
Love Vero. Second time dined in there. This time had the Surf and Turf tasting menu. Enjoyed it every bit. Lamb chop was super tender, same as the steak, both were seasoned very well too. The two dipping sauce came with the platter were tasty, not salty or anything. The size of the lobster tails in the mac & cheese were not that big but decent. Coconut prawns were in the salad, liked it. For the first visit, loved all the dishes ordered, especially the signature sweet potato gnocchi, a must try. Good service, romantic environment.
When we made the reservation it wasn t mentioned they were only doing fixed menu that night. Decor was tacky and we immediately knew the food probably wouldn t be great. Food wasn t bad but almost everything was bland. Whoever is coming up with the dishes is trying to be fancy but isn t pulling it off very well. Risotto had no flavour whatsoever. Bucatini amatriciana was similarly bland with the pasta over cooked. Amuse buche was foie gras covered in peanuts and cotton candy. Again, someone trying to create a clever dish but failing to pull it off. Staff were friendly. Will not be returning.
Chef Jenny has been my favorite chef for many years. Her creativity never disappoints. I took my mom here for an evening out and the steak and frits were amazing. The wine suggestions were full of incredible knowledge. It really made for a fantastic evening. The atmosphere was a great vibe as other patrons were clearly enjoying themselves. I always look forward to my next visit.
Vero Bistro feels like it has lost some of its former magic. At its peak, no list of top Calgary restaurants was complete without it, and it ranked high in Western Canada. After tonights meal, I would describe the experience as uneven, with flashes of real genius. Highlights included a brilliant chimichurri sauce over black angus steak, and Alberta lamb chops grilled to perfection without the slightest hint of unpleasant gamey flavour. Also very good were their signature sweet potato gnocchi, and the veal meatballs in berkshire pork ragu (a generous portion at only $18). Both the steak and lamb were well salted, while the delicate flavours of the pork ragu could have used just a little more salt and seasoning. Sadly, the lobster mac and cheese was poorly executed, with the lobster meat stuck to the shell and the macaroni a little too al dente. The coconut prawns were flavourless, and parts of the salad felt right-out-of-the-fridge cold. Parmesan frites were dried out, and the roasted vegetables in short supply. As you can see from the pictures, the $149 surf and turf for two is quite pricy for the portion size, and that doesnt include the gnocchi and desserts you see. At this high price point, things have to be perfect. Only two desserts were ordered, both were not well conceived, and each overpriced at $14 each. The mocha tiramisu lacked balance, while the tiny non-traditional cheesecake in a jar lacked flavour. Is Vero Bistro Moderne worth the hassle of getting to Kensington and trying to find parking there on a Friday or Saturday night? Absolutely, so long as you know what to order. Recommended starter: Berkshire pork ragu Recommended main: Lamb chops (for small appetites) or chimichurri steak (for larger appetites). Finally, Google Maps description of this place could benefit from updating. Despite its name, it is hardly a Bistro, as there is a $50 Iberian ham appetizer, and I would not describe the food as Italian-French. Only about 10% of the menu are French dishes.
Wonderful experience. Great wine suggestion and the food was equally fantastic. The service was top shelf and Im looking forward to my next visit!
Very good Italian food, the Tartare was very well prepared pasta was cooked perfectly and with care had the Agnolotti with pork ragù which was Flavourful and well seasoned, the only disappointment was the buratta which was dry and lacking the creaminess I am accustomed at the price point for that dish I honestly expected a fresher product. Service was professional
Had a fantastic family dinner at Vero. Dinner is always excellent and we were really looking forward to it. They accommodated my vegetarian children with amazing selections. Everyone was more than satisfied with the fantastic food. Service was excellent and very friendly. We have been several times in the past, and we will continue to go and definitely recommend to anyone who will listen :) Amazing restaurant!
Absolutely amazing!!
Took someone out on a birthday dinner here! It was absolutely lovely. We came a little bit early for our reservation and were able to get a table right away luckily. Since we both werent super hungry, we ended up splitting a salad, the lobster bisque and the lamb kabobs. Everything was absolutely delectable. And were already planning our next foray back for more lamb kabobs. The meal was very fast to come to our table which was slightly frustrating because our kabobs got cold while we were trying the rest of the food. We also got lots of different drinks to try, I highly recommend the amaretto sour. It was perfect. It is a little pricey but I would say its worth every cent
Wonderful food, service, and ambience. 10/10 experience.
I went out for a birthday dinner and was there for a Thursday night. So it was the chefs menu. So you got to pick from a starter, a main and a dessert from the Chefs menu. I started with an absolutely delish butternut squash soup covered with a pastry puff, I then dined on a succulent salmon in a yummy tomatoey sauce and then I finished with a light and airy ricotta lemon cheesecake. Everyones dinner was just as yummy as mine. It was a fabulous evening! Im attaching two photos only because I forgot to take a photo of my main dish. Everybody shows pictures before they eat but mine Ive already dug into!
Would definetly reccommend! The atmosphere was amazing. The restaurant is well decorated and the music was very fun and calm. The service was great! We had a lovely waitress who explained everything on the menus and was very attentive. And now for the best part was THE MEAL! We had the 3 course meal which is only available during Wednesday and Thursday. I had the roasted squash soup which was delicious and creamy and the chef gave us two spring rolls filled with dungenous crab meat from BC, then I had the lemon pea risotto which came with asparagus and some balsamic vinegar which was very delicious and refreshing! I couldnt put down my fork! And for desert I had the lemon cheesecake with cherries and also the tiramisu which came with rasppberries! with the desert came some edible flowers which were also very delicious! Needless to say 10 out of 10 and definetly going again!!
One of the best meals Ive ever had. The truffle pasta (shaved truffles, no truffle oil here) was one of the best meals Ive ever had. Would return definitely.
Great truffle pasta and drinks! Was so pleasantly surprised how much my kids and I enjoyed the truffle pasta. Great selection of wines!
Top quality food and service. The ambiance consists of muted lighting, moderate and pleasant background music. I do feel that the bathroom lighting could be brightened up a little bit but that did not detract from an otherwise excellent dining experience. Vero is one of the few restaurants in Calgary with consistently high quality food and service. Our server was super nice and knowledgeable about the menu. 10/10 would come again...excellent spot for a romantic date night dinner.
Nice intimate cozy atmosphere. It s the little things that matter and Vero bistro gets it!!! My wife and I enjoyed the chefs experience which included a fantastic variety and amount of food. Flavours were very well balanced. Thank you chef Your passion shines through your menu. I look forward to working my way through the dishes. Please thank Micheal for his service, his conversation and demeanour was the mascarpone on the tiramisu (icing on the cake :-p)
Went to eat here and as the waiter sat us down someone whispered something in his ear. The waiter then told us the kitchen was closed and escorted us out. It was 7:36, but reading the reviews it looks like they just tell you that if youre not the kind of customer they want to serve.
This is a surprisingly good restaurant where they expertly serve superb (mainly) Italian food. The escargot and lamb chops are highly recommended. Also the only Spanish wine in their wine list, an Izadi - Rioja Reserve (2018), is excellent. Just let it breathe 15 minutes or so.
