308 17 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2S 0A8, Canada
Rustic-chic restaurant in a converted dairy offering creative, locally sourced grub.
First off, service: 5/5. Excellent! We were sat at the bar…it was unbearably cold! Literally, there is a crack in the wall to the outside…we had to be moved it was so cold…that needs to be fixed! Then we were sat upstairs, felt like a walk in overflow, not ideal, but good enough. The problem is, for the prices asked for here, we expected way more. Yes, the fried chicken they are known for is excellent! But the calamari was very underwhelming. The pork (for over $46!) was just ok. It was hard to tell what was fat and what was apple or meat in the dark. Also, local beer for $11 was also a bit annoying. We’ve been here before, but I’m not sure we’ll be back…just not a memorable experience for the price asked.
Came here tonight last minute for dinner. I got the AB Pork Coppa and it was fantastic. Sometimes you have pork at a restaurant and it can be a little dry....this was the complete opposite. It has flavour and is moist. Really amazing dish. I also got the White Cheddar Apple Pie, which was good. I liked the crust and ice cream. The apples were good but I'd have added a little cinnamon to take them up a notch. Otherwise, I'd gladly eat the apple pie again.
Wonderful atmosphere, good, and service. Went on a date with my wife and we had a great time. The menu is small but still varied and the flavors are delicious. The dishes are designed to be shared, which made for a perfect date. The service team was perfect, starting with a friendly explanation of the menu, giving us space while we ate, and never rushing us. The tables are quite close, but it still has a cozy and quiet atmosphere. We'll be back!
Visiting from out of town, and this place lives up to its reputation. Delicious food. Great hospitality. The apple pie is seriously one of the best slices I’ve ever had. Ever.
We visited this restaurant after reading some great reviews, and it exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was absolutely amazing. We particularly enjoyed the fry bread, calamari, and pork—each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. A special thanks to Jamil, who introduced herself and the menu with such professionalism and care. Anna from Toronto
If you are in Calgary and you want to try one of Calgary's best restaurants, and a staple of this city then Model Milk is that place. This is in my opinion the best restaurant in Calgary. Why? Well the food is incomparable, delicious, well balanced, flavorful, and a whole experience for your senses. The service, well they exemplify what "Western Hospitality" is all about, simply the best in North America. And the ambiance is perfect! You are guaranteed to have an incredible time and experience here. I made the terrific decision to have dinner at the Kitchen counter and wow! It made the experience that much more enjoyable. No wonder why this place has been around for so many years, you simply cannot go wrong with it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We walked into Model Milk last minute since we wanted to try out Pedro Pascal’s favourite restaurant while we were in Calgary. Even though we were last minute walk-ins as a big group, they did their best to seat us at the next available table. While waiting, they even offered us to order some drinks while we wait. Our server was Cathy (I can’t remember her name exactly but she had a sick neck tattoo) and she was super upbeat, friendly and attentive. She described all the menu items to us in detail, answered all our questions, and even suggested items for us to try. She always walked by and checked on us to make sure we had enough food and drinks. Even though it was close to closing time, she still suggested for us to get desserts, and recommended some really good ones. Our group’s favourite item was the beef tartare. It was seasoned perfectly and melted in your mouth. The dessert was a hit amongst us as well, we still miss their pandan-cotta. Thank you Model Milk for making our trip memorable. As a group of foodies we really enjoyed our time at your restaurant!
Excellent restaurant, with excellent food and great ambiance. Numerous celebrities have visited this gem in Calgary. The only downside is the forced tipping. When I ate here, I didn't tip because it is not a requirement to tip in Canada. Out of nowhere, the manager/hostess asked me if there was an issue with the service, I told her, "No. Everything went well, I just don't tip because it's not a requirement. " To avoid being banned, I decided to give $10 and left. Thank you very much. Will be back.
Attended a large work Christmas party. The food was fantastic the service was even better.
We visited Model milk first time to have birthday dinner and we loved the place very much! The lady who served us (Kate) was pleasant and knowledgeable and made tonight a great experience. Food
Great atmosphere, very innovative and delicious food! Highly recommend and it doesnt hurt that there cocktails are amazing too
Excellent atmosphere, quality menu.
Great place with a nice food and awesome cocktails. Amazing atmosphere as well. Connor made our experience unforgettable. Top service
Two words. Apple pie.
The food is incredible and so are the staff. Had a lovely experience the other night when I friend and I were in a rush to eat before a show, we were shocked at how accommodating and thoughtful the staff were at making sure we would get out on time. Can t wait to return when I can marinate in the lovely atmosphere.
Excellent food and atmosphere, fry bread, chicken, tar tar, apple pie were particularly good! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options were good
We have been to neighbouring Pigeonhole many times so decided to instead try Model Milk for our anniversary, and it did not disappoint! Service was great (Dee was awesome!), drinks were unique and tasty, and the food was delicious.
Great food. Thoughtful service. Food
Great dining experience. High quality food in a more laid back and casual atmosphere. We sat at the bar and were well-looked after all night. Our server identified that we were heading to the Flames game after dinner and made sure that our meal was paced at an appropriate speed to get us out of there in time. All the food we had was good, but the Fried Chicken was particularly top notch!
Very nice place and always busy, better to book in advance if you want to go there. We had a hamburger and a fried chicken with BBQ sauce, both excellent and tasty. Excellent alcoholic selection with also many Italian bitters which even in Italy are sometimes difficult to find. The staff was very friendly, especially the bartender with whom we stopped to talk for 5 minutes about Italian liqueurs. With two beers, the bill was $100, recommended.
Really enjoyed the service and the atmosphere is very pleasant. However, the food was just not good. Steak tartar was okay but after one portion, nobody was willing to go back for a second portion or finish it. Fry bread was burnt. The shrimp toasties though, my goodness. Yuck. Dry bread and the shrimp tasted expired. Nasty nasty! My husband I both took one bite and didn t take another. I m essentially a human garbage disposal for food, so it has to be pretty bad for me to not finish a dish.
I was shocked by the food. Walked by not knowing anything. Food was amazing. A must hit up spot. Sit at the kitchen ledge! Watching them cook is unreal. Tha k you to everyone.
One of the best restaurants in Calgary. The place is very authentic, the employees are very professional and the quality of the dishes is a 10. The calamari and the sirloin were my favorites. I hope to return very soon.
My favourite place for brunch.
Great food. Farm-to-table style local fresh ingredient menu
Good food. Amazing service. 10/10
The shrimp toasties were excellent. The kale salad lacked a bit of flavor, but the calamari was perfect. The octopus was also pretty good!
We sat in the side by side in the upper level which has an overview of the entire restaurant including the open kitchen. Enjoyed great cocktails, and wine, heirloom tomatoes and pork cotto. The food was unique and yet comfy and absolutely delish. No wonder the locals kept recommending it!
The service here is excellent! My wife and I came in and our waitress Kait was the best! We wanted to try a bit of everything and she organized and paced everything perfectly, including drink pairings. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great.
Outstanding in every way. Great service, from initial welcome to bar and dinner service, staff were friendly and top notch in every way. Great cocktail program! Food was delicious and the vibe was fun. The octopus was the lone dish that didnt live up to expectations, but the beef tartare, calamari, and fried bread was so good.
Our first experience was last night when we took my boyfriend s parents. The service was incredible. All together we shared & loved our appetizers. For appy s we had the beet plate(I can t recall the name), Fogo Island Shrimp Toastie, Calamari Fricassee and the Warm potato buns. For our mains we ordered the Icelandic Cod & Model Milk Hot Fried Chicken. Would definitely go again for share plates and the wine selection!
Great staff. Best burger Ive had in a while.
We shared a few plates and enjoyed them all. The shrimp toasties and beet salad were flavorful and reasonably sized. I really liked the burger. A thick in house ground chuck patty that is super tasty. I just found the burger sauce or burger to be a touch too salty. The fries were super salty too but overall it was delicious.
Outstanding food! One of the best meals we had in Canada/USA. They deserve a Michelin star. Service and atmosphere mediocre but the meal was superb.
Incredible. Ive heard about Model Milk for years, and finally had the pleasure of being their guest this evening. Out server, Jamelle, was world-class. Attentive, kind, passionate, and professional. The other staff were all great too! Cocktails were fantastic, and they even made one of their older unique cocktails for one of our party, even though it wasnt on the current menu. All of our food was amazing. The Calamari stood out for sure - even though its not battered and fried like you may expect, this may be the ultimate way to enjoy squid. As a table we also shared the Potato Buns, Shrimp Toasties, Oysters, Beef Tartare, Shishito Peppers, Hot Honey Chicken, Rib Eye, Pork Coppa, and Grilled Octopus; perfection all around. No wonder Model Milk is consistently reputable in our city, especially with so many excellent options to pick from. We cannot wait for our next visit. We will try our best to save room for dessert! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Went for a private team event. Very good healthy vegetarian food.
Ive walked by here hundreds of times and decided to stop by after work. It was so excellent!! Shrimp toastie and Calamari Fricasse were delicious, I could shoot the calamari sauce. Kate was my server and she was so knowledgeable of the menu and very kind. Thank you!
Our experience at Model Milk tonight was top notch. The food was unbelievably delicious!! Our server Kait was personable, attentive, and one of the best servers we have ever had. Thank you so much!!
Amazing restaurant; very salty food. The fricasse and the octopus are worth trying; those were our favorite dishes. Service is great, and the wine pairing recommended.
Generous portions of delicious comfort foods. Good service, great style. Food
My sisters and I came in after stampede with our phones dead looking for a safe space to hang out and charge our devices so we could call a ride home. Carter gave us the warmest welcome! He was so kind, the entire staff was wonderful to us! We will definitely be back for food and drinks because of the amazing service. Thank you guys!
One of the best meals I have ever had in Calgary. The stand out was the calamari
A bit loud at times but delicious food and great service
Recently celebrated my husband s birthday here. The service was top notch and the food/drinks were incredible. I have a few allergies and our server was so careful and helped guide me through the menu and modifications possible. Hubby had the pork and said was fantastic, I had the steak and it was perfectly cooked and tasted great. We had someone join us for drinks after dinner and they moved us to a spot with more seats to accommodate with zero issue. Highly recommended!
Amazing atmosphere. We were served by Patrick P. food was surprisingly good. Not a very extensive cocktail menu. But the cocktails they do offer are truly amazing. Understanding they re more focused on good wine and the pairings in which they re married to. Highly recommend.
Fantastic delicious variety of flavors, decent amount of vegetarian options. The black manhattan cocktail is also one of the best cocktails Ive ever tasted. Cant wait to go back! Vegetarian options: The warm potato buns, savory fry bread, endive cucumber salad, and sourdough tonnarelli are all vegetarian-friendly and taste insanely good.
Easily one of the best restaurants over time. Ive been here several times over the past 6 years and time and time again it does not disappoint. Theres parking right beside and across the street if need be. The atmosphere is intimate and upscale. But still casual and with the cocktail list you are gonna have a good time. I highly recommend family style dining so you can share in all the flavors. Get the buttermilk chicken! Beets, carrots, calamari and the pull apart bread are amazing shareables!!! Its all so good. The staff are super helpful and professional. Theres a complimentary coat check. Go there! Youll have a time, bud!
Food was surprisingly poor. Tried 7 different dishes between two couples and one was good. Over hyped restaurant to say the least. Been there a couple times and would not recommend. Much better places to spend your hard earned dollar.
Wonderful food and fun environment.
That was arguably the best food Ive had in this city. Full stop. Was part of a group, and we enjoyed a family dinner-style experience with a whole host of dishes from their menu. For starters, the Savoury Fry Bread is other-worldly. But the all the other dishes we had were equally as good, if not better. Calamari, Shishito Peppers, Beef Tartare, Fried Chicken, Grilled Striploin, Apple Pie, and one or two others I think Im missing...all amazing! Also, service was top shelf!
The chicken tasted great, lovely deserts and wine selection as well
Excellent service paired with delicious food! The upper level can get a little toasty FYI. Reservations made easier via OpenTable. I would like to see them add some handcrafted non alcoholic cocktails so many great products out there such as Seedlip to create some n/a beverages. Differently a must try restaurant in Calgary. We will return.
Have been here a few times over the years and am always delighted! The apple pie is absolutely insane, but so is all the food! Our most recent trip we opted to share a few appies and our main. The fried chicken is excellent and our fav! We had a bottle of wine (which paired excellently with the food) and also a post dinner cocktail which was incredible (I described what I wanted and they made it based on that so not on the menu). Definitely a great spot to eat in Calgary - highly recommend!
We had an amazing dining experience. The food was so savoury, my favourite was the shrimp toastie with the beet salad a close 2nd. What made the evening extra enjoyable was the knowledge, friendly and attentive service our server was Kait. Truly one of the best dining experiences I have had thanks!!
We sat at the bar. The bartenders were fabulous entertainment, we got great service and the food was phenomenal! The bar got quite cold though. Everything else was exceptional. Well be back. Food
The food was very tasty and unique. The service was very attentive. The prices are a bit high, but it wouldnt deter me from returning.
Fantastic experience. Really good food, great cocktails, vinyl playing, awesome service, best pie Ive had in my life. Really enjoyed our evening at Model Milk.
A supremely delightful dinner experience at this upscale elegant place! I enjoyed everything about it - the food was remarkably delicious, the service was impeccable, the drinks were amazing, the dessert was simply outstanding, the atmosphere and ambiance really inviting and romantic. I wish I took photos of the food and drinks because their presentation was also superlative. I will do that on my next visit because I am already planning to return Vegetarian options: There are a few really nice options for us non-meat eaters. Everything I tried was really delicious! Dietary restrictions: Our server (Kate or Katie was her name) was very attentive and considerate and informed us of the ingredients that we may have found bothersome.
We were sat in the lounge area with Connor and Carter, we could not have asked for a better service team. The food was amazing, the drinks were phenomenal, and the service was spot on. They were kind, gave awesome service, and were thoughtful in their recommendations. We will be back, and we will ask to be in their section again. Thanks a lot, for both of your times.
Had Acacia as our server for the 2nd time tonight. Meant to leave a review the first time but just remembered this time, her service is wonderful and she really knows what she s doing. Food and atmosphere is great, food quality justifies the price. Will definitely keep coming back!
Great food, love the decor. Service was excellent.
This dinner was my second meal of YYCEXP 2024. First course - Green Pea Falafel - A good, light appy, texture was a bit overly crisp but with the basil emulsion, no issues - 7.5/10; Second Course A - Poached Sockeye Salmon - Not a great piece of fish; texture simply wasnt right for me, sauce was tasty - 6.5/10; Second Course B - Grilled AB Pork w/ Glazed Oyster Mushroom - Pork was cooked perfectly and beautifully plated, other aspects complemented well, not blown away (MM has a high standard) but enjoyed it thoroughly - 8/10; Third Course - Chocolate Éclair w/ Cream, Haskap Berry - Forgettable; eclair surprisingly disappointing, saved somewhat by the cream - 6/10 Overall: Ive had many great meals at MM; this wasnt among them. It wasnt bad - MM is never bad - but it wasnt what I would have expected, especially for an event like this that is intended (presumably) to showcase the restaurant to generate repeat customers. If judging it on these items youd be underrating the restaurant. Im leaving five stars given my other experiences here.
Really good food and service. Just wish there was a bit more variety on the menu.
Our service was top tier, Kait truly embodied what it means to provide hospitality with care. Food is genuinely delicious and even thought provoking- have not tried something quite like the sourdough stringozzi before, especially delicious paired with sherry. Cannot recommend trying this place enough.
The potato buns were delicious! Chicken and beef tartare were good.
Ordered the calamari, brisket, potato bread, and apple pie for desert. The food was good, nice presentation. Next time I go, I may consider just ordering the bread and apple pie. The brisket was very pricy for a make your own wrap style of food.
What a beautiful spot for a date night or dinner with friends! Took my fiancé here for a Valentine s Day dinner and we were so impressed with the food but mostly the service! We were sat at the bar and had numerous short conversations with both bartenders! Kris the bartender was our server and gave us some fantastic recommendations that ended up being nearly tailored to our taste preferences! Carter the other bartender was very polite and funny! Overall all expectations were exceeded!
Went here for a late valentines date night and it was absolutely beautiful. Every meal we ordered was so lovely the calamari was delicious and the chicken was cooked perfectly with the right amount of spice! We ordered quite a lot and got full at the end but we had to get the apple pie, which was the star of the whole entire meal!! Our server Jamelle recommended to pair the apple pie with a certain wine and it had brandy in it ( I forgot the full name of the wine) but we were blown away with how good the apple pie and the wine tasted together!!!! I highly recommend to try those two! But overall such an amazing night and thank you to our lovely server Jamelle who made our night so special
Their service is good. Just didn t like the food.
Extremely loud, a little awkward, but amazing food Vegetarian options: The savory french toast is one of the most unique and memorable things weve eaten in a couple of years. So damn good. Food : 5/5 |
My dad had booked a reservation for my sisters 18th birthday a few week prior to our reservation on December 21. We were looking forward to it and it took a while to come downtown, etc. my dad got there 5 minutes early and the rest of the party (6 total) got there right on time. We were told our table wasn t ready yet and the table was just paying up which is completely fine. But then it turned into half an hour past our reservation time with no update on when our table would be ready and we were just standing in the middle of the restaurant. When we asked they just kept saying the party is still there and my dad asked if they could be moved and they said no. Typically if a restaurant double seats a reserved table they will inform the previous party that they will have to be out by a certain time my dad was wondering if they were actually paying or if we were just told that. After about 35-40 minutes of standing there in the middle of the restaurant with no communication or updates, we decided to leave. One of the staff ran out after us which was great of them and had said they were planning on getting us two separate tables and giving us snacks until our table was ready. That was nice but at the same time it just meant our table was still not available. It would have been better if they had just communicated with us that a mistake had been made or communicated their plan. We ended up going elsewhere for my sisters birthday dinner.
Rarely does a restaurant wow us! The food, service and atmosphere were unreal, we will be back, often :) Thanks to Dani for the incredible, attentive service!
I love the space at Model Milk. The staff are always fun to chat with. The bar tenders are very knowledgeable and creative with mixing drinks. It s always a pleasure to have a meal here.
Extremely confused how anyone enjoys the food here. Been here twice and both times basically everything tasted off. Only positive is decent service and good tasting cocktails. Food
Service was amazing. Water was always full. Food was incredible. A little loud.
The creativity in the food presentation is awesome. The food is very, very good but could benefit from less salt and more seasonings. The cocktail menu is very creative and staff uber friendly. Would visit again to try more of the menu for sure.
The food was okay but not worth the price. The vegetarian main is almost 40 dollars and it was a zucchini split in half with beans. They booked too many large tables the night we reserved, and we were rushed to order and then the server forgot our appetizer and brought it once the mains came out. Apple pie was served cold. All around just mediocre for the price.
Top notch hipster dinning in Calgary. Super interesting mix of flavours and fusion of different cuisines, great ambiance, nice staff and good cocktails. The variety of dishes is really nice and portion sizes give you a chance to experience a lot of nice flavours in one sitting. One point for improvement would be to infuse the flavour, such as in their signature fried chicken and have the flavour throughout the cut instead of just on the surface coating. But definitely a recomended spot.
The service and the food were excellent! Our server Shane took great care of us and was very attentive and made sure our glasses were always full. One tip for anyone that goes, PLEASE order the T-Bone!!! You will not regret it.
The service and food were very good. We shared several plates and liked them all except the mushrooms - they were quite salty and you get a lot as it is a large plate. If I could I would give a 4.5 rating as we felt the cocktails and a couple of the plates were a bit pricey for what you get.
Excellent food and services!
The best baked oysters Ive ever had! My group of friends also collectively agreed that their apple pie was to die for. Will definitely be back!
Awesome place
One of my all time faves. Cool retro vibe, amazing food. Their hot fried chicken is a must have.
The charred shisito peppers and apple pie are to die for here. Also very good fried chicken.
One of the best. Loved every dish. Calamari was a surprise, thought it would be deep fried but not, liked it a lot. Gotta try their hot fried chicken, well seasoned, meat was juicy. Very busy when we were there, enjoyed the vibe. Great service.
Food was fine. Nothing was great or exceptional, other than the apple pie which was delicious. Based on reputation, I kind of expected to be wowed. Everything was cooked well but was not particularly exciting or delicious. Some items seemed quite overpriced (shrimp toasties - $16 for two tiny dry little sandwiches). Meh. Wouldn t go back.
One usually doesn t go to Calgary for the cuisine but they should. I had a series of good meals with Model Milk being a highlight. We went with a large party at the last minute and they could not have been more helpful. Service was fantastic. The food was superb starting, in order of love, with: Chicken (get it hot) Brisket ( charred on outside to perfection) Milk Bread ( life changing) T-bone Fried mushrooms Kale salad Donut and mortadella Carrots Calamari It was all impressive. Fun cocktails and solid atmosphere. Highly recommended.
We had an awesome experience last night with a corporate dinner, food was amazing, service was perfect. Enjoyed it!
Service was excellent and atmosphere nice and cozy. However, the food I thought was a bit overrated. The oysters were amazing, some of the best Ive had in Calgary. However, the in-house yellow sauce (forgot what it was called) was described like it was a well crafted and flavorful sauce. But it honestly tasted like nothing, the flavors were way too subtle. We were very excited to try the fried calamari as its one of the restaurants staple menu items for the past 11 years. But we were very disappointed, this is not the fried calamari that you would expect when ordered elsewhere. The only thing that can be considered fried are the croutons. Flavors are good but definitely underwhelmed by amount of fried goodness that was expected. However, the dish was quite salty. Fried chicken was decent, with good flavors. But it was just way too salty. The accompanying lettuce and the biscuits were much needed due to how salty the dish was. I probably drank 10 cups of water.
Visited Calgary for the first time and chose Model Milk for dinner. Couldnt of been happier with the experience. Food, service, ambience, all were fantastic. Recommend.
Yum
Food is okay. We had dried fried chicken in the past. We would always come back for their apple pie. Im giving 5 stars for their apple pie
The bread is always good at Model Milk and their evolving menu keeps things fresh.
Theres much better food for the price. Cocktails were decent but overpriced. I dont mind paying higher prices for taste and quality that matches but that wasnt the case here.
Had a nice dining experience at Model Milk just as a night out. I started with the lady sour peace (a smooth peach tea flavored cocktail) and we shared the squid fricassee, Atlantic cod, grilled AB pork, and the model milk apple pie. Overall, every dish was tasty but the standout was the apple pie due to its lightly crispy and flaky cheddar cheese crust. Other highlights were the soft/tender cod (the garlic butter did not have much garlic flavor) and the fig & caramel sauce that paired well with the pork (the pork itself is very similar to eating cha siu/ from a Chinese BBQ meat shop but with crispy skin). The main critique is that some elements were quite salty, especially the sauce for the squid fricassee. The service was attentive and the ambiance was lively & relaxing.
Tried Model Milk for a date night with the hubby. Made a reservation, which is highly suggested. Arrived a bit early and was seated promptly. Busy place on a Saturday night. A bit loud. Our table was along the wall, and it was a tight squeeze between us and the tables on either side of us - not super intimate. Waiter was great. Didn t catch his name. Was a bit hard to hear with the background noise of the restaurant. Ordered the calamari and the cheese donuts for our appetizers. Nothing special. Kind of forgettable. For our main we shared the Nashville hot chicken platter. It was okay. The buttermilk biscuits stole the show and the salad dressing was good. The price was a bit extravagant for what it was. Dessert was incredible. We ordered the apple pie and we were not disappointed. Seriously was one of the best apple pies I ve ever had. If I was to return, it would be for dessert and specifically for the pie. Side note: the pie is MASSIVE and best shared! All in all, it was an okay meal. I really felt that it didn t live up to the reputation and expectations it has. A little on the pricy side of things and I felt it just really wasn t justified. Probably try some other places before rushing back.
The experience I had at Model Milk was disappointing. Went with a group of 7 girls and started out the evening well with some lovely cocktails. The food was all delicious and the drinks were good, but the service was some of the worst I ve ever had. As we were a bigger group the server (don t recall his name- tall sandy blonde man with glasses) knew that the gratuity would be automatically added to the bill and so his tip was only based on how much we spent. He aggressively upsold us on everything trying to get us to order the whole menu (every item) for a group of 7 that weren t that hungry! When we placed our order he continued to insist we didn t have enough food after 5 back and forths of us saying let s start with this and we aren t that hungry we finally caved. It felt like we were being bullied into a larger order! Then of course we couldn t finish all the food, had a lot wasted and left way too full. This server was way too pushy and ruined what would have been an excellent evening.
This is hands one a MUST go when visiting Calgary for the first time, a special occasion or to simply expand your pallet and try new things. The service was incredibly on point, the food was out of this world and the attention to small details really made the experience tubes to have ever had. Thank you for the incredible valentines day experience !
Honestly, one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in Calgary. Not sure why it took me so long to actually go here. It, without a doubt, earns all the praise it gets from locals and even celebrities. We had the cheeseburger (amazing and you can choose pink middle or no pink), the honeymooner oysters, and an incredibly large and tasty piece of apple pie for dessert
What a gem! This restaurant, on 17th Ave in a historic dairy building, provides a memorable meal. While you enjoy your meal you are surrounded in candle light. Youll be listening to a very eclectic mix of music played on a turntable. The food is amazing! The oysters taste fresh and were served with two different sauce options. One was spicy and the other was a melon vinaigrette. The wagyu beef tartare was delicious and was served with a pepper cream sauce and some crisps. The roasted carrots are sweet with a cilantro finish. They were cooked nicely. The hot fried chicken has an almost Asian flair to the flavour and was beautifully cooked. The biscuits are dense and buttery. The burger was one of the best I have had. In a restaurant, this was the best. I had mine cooked medium as it is made from Chuck that is ground in-house. The cheese, mushrooms, and sauce were delicious. The apple pie was a huge and deep slice. The crust on top is a crumble style and contains some old cheddar. I like that addition, though it may not be for everyone.
Great professional service. Food, however, is ok and overpriced.
Really enjoyed it here! The food was great, the atmosphere was amazing but the service was a little slow, especially for a Tuesday. Overall a great place, I look forward to my next meal here!
Really nice spot. The macaroni I had for lunch here was particularly delicious.
Food and atmosphere were great, but the service was a bit weird. Maybe it was just our server s personality, but he seemed to be upselling on auto pilot rather than listening and responding to our questions about the menu. Not the experience I was expecting.
Really yummy food.
We had amazing service, the food was delicious and the vibes were ~immaculate~ ... Best fried chicken and biscuits Ive had! Had no idea they have been open 11 years, new favorite for sure! Food
Great dinner tonight and even better service! We went for the set menu and took the suggestion our waiter made to add the calamari appetizer. The whole meal was delicious!
We went to the first stop of the YYC Food & Drink Experience We had one of everything on the set menu. Instead of the Arctic Char that was originally on the menu they had Alberta Trout instead. Everytime was quite good the service was amazing. I have enclosed a photo of the set menu. We did add 2 extra items the Potash bread with whipped honey butter and the Polenta Agnolotti with brown butter, jalapeno vinegar, mint, pecorino it was a good time and good food Parking: Street parking
We had the prix fixe menu for the yyc food experience. The star of the meal was the potato cod fritter. The beef entree was a bit chewy and could have done with less finishing salt. The chocolate dessert was good, but the apple pie was better. Service was friendly and efficient.
Great evening, wonderful new taste sensations...
Great experience over all. Only issue was that the temperature upstairs is fairly hot and abit loud. Dishes are amazing and great for date night or group meals! Please bring back Sunday set menu!!!!! It s a must!!!
The best dining experience Ive ever had. Ordered off the YYC experience menu and also got a plate of the fried chicken to share. Best fried chicken Ive had. The cod fritters were amazing. The beef entree was so tender and flavourful and the cheddar apple pie was quite unique. Never had an apple pie with cheese in it but it is a surprisingly delicious combination. I will absolutely be back again the next time I have the chance!
Had an amazing experience at Model Milk recently! Our server was so thoughtful and came to check often (we were talking so much that we forgot to order for a bit). I got the burger and my date got the strip loin, both were amazing. Burger was a nice medium rare because it was fresh ground meat and I really enjoyed the cheese curds on top which added a delicious stretch. We had the apple pie a la mode for dessert. It was heavenly! And our server surprised us with a nice free glass of red wine each. I highly recommend it and go check it out if you can! Reservations are a must.
Apple pie, must try! Really great atmosphere, amazing staff and really great food!
I came here during YYC Dining Week to try one of the Prix Fixe menu options. Great vibe inside, staff were incredible, we received excellent service. The food was fantastic!
Went there for food expo. It was a nice experience.
Excellent foodie experience , would go here again!
Had dinner last evening sitting at the chefs bar. Friendly, helpful, engaging staff, great vibe and fantastic food with great flavours and textures. Although a seemingly small thing, if you go, you MUST try the biscuits. Unbelievable! Worthy of a sequel Harold and Kumar Go Get Biscuits.
Great service, food is amazing and the vibe is cool. the dishes have so much flavour! Highly recommend.
Well as soon as u walk in , it felt homie and nice , great service warm atmosphere, ordered the burger and omg wow mind blowing best one I ve ever had Omg yes , then for desert the apple pie well holy Batman best apple pie just wanna eat more then one piece mmmm yum a must for anyone , definitely going back again when I come back to Calgary impressed all around
My only complaint is overall, the restaraunt is LOUD, but thats what happens when everyone is having a great time. The food is creative (but not weird) and delicious. Service was awesome. The halibut and fried chicken was so good, I could have ordered seconds. Highly recommend. Edit - Second visit had wagyu beef tartar, fried maitake mushrooms, pork tenderloin with fig caramel sauce and polenta agnoloti.
Delicious high end foods
Kate just served us. She was amazing and very helpful. This is not your typical restaurant or pub, but its a must try! The food is amazing and unique. We had the model milk hot fried chicken, I definitely recommend this. Great place. Food
The food and cocktails were absolutely incredible and The service was 10/10. Can t wait to go back!
This is a good place for anyone who loves a little haute cuisine. The location is conveniently laid on the busy streets of 17th Ave where a lot of traffic (both foot and car) can be found. Its easy to just walk in and find a place to sit. On the inside, the atmosphere is brick-and-mortar meets modern technology. It like the perfect place to hang out when you want a steampunk experience. It is certainly a fun place to find yourself in. The service is top-notch. Our server knew everything there was to know about the menu. He helped us when we were unsure of what to order, he knew which dishes were vegetarian, and he knew how to handle some fun-loving women just having a good time. Top marks for him. He also served our food and drinks at good time so for this I cannot complain. The food was delicious. I ordered the pasta that they had and it was creamy, and full of delectable flavours that a person would not expect would go together. Who knew that cheese, mint, and jalapenos would go together? Genius. The only problem with this is, it was a small portion. I felt I didnt get enough. With the prices that they have on these meals I would like to be well-fed for it. Sadly, I did leave the restaurant hungry and had to have a snack when I got home. Its a shame. All-in-all, the experience here was very good. it wasnt perfect but that is okay. We had an enjoyable evening, the staff were friendly and knew their stuff, and the food delicious. It just needed a little more of it to be completely satisfying. Thanks for the experience guys!
Great restaurant with excellent servers and a comfortable atmosphere. Tasty cocktails and food was overall good. The biscuits with the chicken were amazing but the chicken itself seemed abut overcooked however was not dry. We had a great time here.
This place is seriously impressive! The Wagyu Beef Tartare & East Coast Oysters were our favourite starters. The main we tried was the Beef brisket which was excellent - not overly fatty and fully of flavour. The only down side is it s going to set you back a bit, but we ll worth it for a special occasion.
I sat in the kitchens bar, the experience and aesthetic of it was excellent. I watched the kitchen work and prep food, and it made dinner a lot more enjoyable. The food selections was great and all were tasty. I finished with the model milk apple pie, simple yet yummy.
Underwhelming given its reputation and price. The food was good, but it wasnt great and the prices were very high. In my opinion, much better value to be found elsewhere.
Ate like kings, awesome menu wonderful staff
Had an awesome night here! Everything is delicious and the pie is to die for! Shoutout Tessa for her excellent service :))
Tessa is a legend
I am based in Toronto and contacted Model Milk to celebrate a special occasion for my son and daughter-in-law on Friday, June 16th. They were professional, honest, responsive and made the evening absolutely spectacular for them and their friends. With family absent, a huge thank you to Management and staff for all they did. They were incredible and went above and beyond. Thank you!!
This place was honestly a 10/10. I was recommended to go to Model Milk and it did not disappoint. I was only in Calgary for one night and I wanted a great restaurant to have a nice meal after spending the day in the mountains. We ordered the shrimp toasties to start, the burgers for the main, and the apple pie to split for dessert. Each menu item was fresh, innovative and expertly executed. I was also impressed that all the food was locally sourced from farms and even mentioned each farm on the menu. The shrimp toasties reminded me of lobster roll light and buttery. The burger was juicy, flavourful and the cheese curds were a great addition. The apple pie slice was generous and easily able to split with 2 people maybe even 3. With in house vanilla ice cream. The service was great and came in a timely fashion while answering all our questions. I highly recommend Model Milk.
Model Milk was excellent. We ordered Wagyu Beef Tartare & Calamari for appetizers; both were a great start of whats to come. We also ordered Grilled AB Pork, Alberta Ribeye, and Halibut for entrees. The Pork dish was divine; I highly recommend getting it. It was probably one of the best pork dishes I have ever had. The Ribeye was good and the Halibut was our least favorite. It just didnt really shine. Overall, I really enjoyed the restaurant, the service and the ambience.
We had heard great things but unfortunately did not have A good experience. The server seemed annoyed by us and was very unimpressed with us as we werent drinking with our meal (my friend is pregnant and I cannot have alcohol due to a liver issue). I also let them know about a strawberry allergy I have for the dessert, and the server commented that while they can do it, the dessert wouldnt be as good and if Im okay with that. The dessert tasted great however I was also disappointed with the size of the cake in regards to the price. Overall wouldnt recommend due to the servers attitude and portion size.
Heard good things about this restaurant so I took my husband and in-laws. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Waited over an hour for our main courses. Half of the fried chicken was overcooked and the batter tasted burnt. Im giving 1 extra star because they comped the fried chicken. Salad was unappetizing as it was uncut lettuce with spices on top. Staff was cleaning tables on the second floor and splashed dirty water onto us. Would not go back and do not recommend.
Very good restaurant in Calgary. Large and very beautiful room. Hearty dishes, well presented and very good. High prices compared to French standards but within Canadian prices. Impeccable service like in most Canadian restaurants, always with a smile.
A trendy restaurant, service was on the cool side. Local ingredients, well prepared, good vibes. Order to service take a while, so make sure you factor in ample time for the meal.
Only had the apple pie. They got me in and out in 30 mins. The pie was amazing and HUGE. Best to share. Staff were well trained.
Went for a gfs birthday and the food was delicious, the service was wonderful and atmosphere lively
Omg! This place was so amazing. We read all the reviews and we can confirm that it is really that good! Don t miss out on the chance, if you pass by Calgary!
Overall a very good experience. We really enjoyed everything we had and the service was quick and friendly.
Wonderful service and delicious meal!
Tough menu if you are vegan or vegetarian. Missed opportunity, honestly. Ive never been able to go back despite others at my table enjoying the food as I didnt have any options.
Wow, what an experience! My partner and I were going for a date night and came upon this gem. Dee, our server was amazing! Im a visual eater so to speak, and she described and explained the dishes with joy and precision. The steak, wow, I used to work at a steak house and I have to say, its the best steak Ive ever had! Thank you Dee for making our night, youre the best!!!
My favorite in Calgary after spending a month here so far! I ordered the savory French toast (sweet slightly spicy and salty and just butter/oily but still airy), the squid fricasee (delicious with some particularly Thai-esque spices and an amazing combination of textures), and the stringazzi (this one was decent - a bit too heavy for me without variety of textures and interesting flavor combos like the other ones and I couldn t finish) Didn t have room for dessert but hoping to be back!
MUST TRY THE APPLE PIE
Good food. Small menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals but the cocktails were a bit overpriced. Decent experience for sure
Deanna was a great server! Very knowledgeable about the history of the building and of the cocktails!
Fun and vibrant restaurant bursting with energy, the desserts were delicious and refreshing
We booked at Model Milk based on reviews and they did not disappoint! Music was a little loud but it absolutely fit with the atmosphere of the place. Food was amazing and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I was super impressed with how well they all worked together, there was lots of staff and they all worked together to make sure everyone was taken care of. We will definitely be back, and cant wait to try more of their dishes that looked amazing as they were leaving the kitchen. The potato buns with honey butter are a must have! We had the fried chicken meal for 2 and it was fantastic and it was quite a large portion.
The bread appetizer... is SO GOOD it would literally cause world peace if everyone ate it simultaneously. This is not a joke. Im 100% serious. I have NEVER had better bread... I mean... its bread... my entire review is about how good the bread is... brisket was great also... but THE BREAD.... GO EAT THIS BREAD NOW. YOU NEED IT.
This is my favourite go-too restaurant in Calgary. Its a 10/10 for me for the 2x I ve been here. Contemporary & good quality southern fares. The ambiance of the restaurant was awesome. They were on top of it when it came to cleaning tables & chairs. I got their Icelandic cod with onion rings. The onion rings on the cod is the BEST onion rings I ve ever had in my entire life. It tasted fresh & buttery. The cod was soft, juicy & buttery too. I was impressed. I came with a friend who is celiac & our server was soOoo lovely. She checked the kitchen for us regarding kitchen set up for celiac folks like her. My celiac friend appreciated the consciousness involved with her needs. There were gluten free options on the menu available for her & they are able to alter some dishes that is able to cater to her gluten allergies. Me and my friend shared the charred shishito peppers w/c was one of their gluten free dishes. Then we had the lemon meringue cup for dessert, w/c was gluten free too. Our server the night of Oct.22,2023 had the sweetest motherly fun vibes. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food and great service. The burger was juicy and flavorful. If dont care for an ingredient or two they can generally accommodate you.
Service was exceptional. Kate, our server, was very knowledgeable of the menu and drinks and was very attentive and kind. We were in a group of 4 and shared the bread as appetizer and the pork, zucchini schnitzel and fried chicken as main dishes. I d have been hungry if I had the zucchini just by itself, so sharing was the best choice (Kate suggested that) but all of the dishes were delicious. We then shared 3 desserts: the apple pie, the chocolate cremeux and the pot de creme (lemon one). The apple pie was the best one. The others were good but didn t do it for me flavour wise. The chocolate was the least favourite of the group
The zucchini schnitzel was brilliant.
All vibes were 100!
Wonderful night out for a birthday. We shared all our dishes so we can try more of the great items on the menu!
My husband and I went here for a date night and it was fabulous!!! The food was full of flavor, and done to perfection! Very good service and our waitress was very friendly too! The only downside was that we found the music was a little loud and so it was a little challenging to chat, but still manageable. Overall it was wonderful experience!! Would highly recommend!
This is one of my favourite spots in town for gourmet food. I literally had dreams about the Wagyu beef burger and tartar there for weeks afterwards. The cocktails are really good too. The atmosphere is upscale gastro-pub and features a chefs table right in the kitchen. However, the prices are not cheap, and the last time I was in at the end of October, I found the quality to have gone down a bit. The Tartar in particular was not nearly as good as it was before. If you are seated upstairs it can get quite warm, while downstairs is quite loud. Request seating accordingly.
Favorite place for cocktails and hot chicken
Love the tatare
Great spot, amazing service, and decent food. The pork was well received and the cod was enjoyable, but a bit one note. I would suggest the pork.
The food is incredible and the service was top notch. Glad this place is a Calgary product!
It is an excellent restaurant; the food and service are fantastic , and we have Patric as a server Great job , special thanks to Guillermo the chef
Here for a vendor function, the diet cola I didnt have to pay for was delish, and the food I also didnt have to pay for was really good, a buffet of awesome snacks. The service was....hmmm...4/5 Ill say, generously. Their collective heart wasnt in it, or maybe they were just too super busy.
Dani, our server for our Christmas Party was beyond exceptional. Connor our bartender was also amazing. Would highly recommend hosting any party at this venue because of the phenomenal service.
Amazing food, service was fabulous!! Apple Pie with ice cream is out of this world! Will be back at sometime in the next year.
They have their own parking lot but it was full. We were able to find street parking easy. It was a great experience. The food was great and they were able to handle our party of 8. Our server was Jamelle and she was really kind and attentive to our group. The food was delicious. We ordered all the small plates and loved it. The entrées were really good as well. I think the only thing I wasnt a fan of was the hot chicken. This is mainly because Ive had the best hot chicken in Nashville (nothing compares). Great quality food for its price. Everything was prestine. The atmosphere was comfortable, dark, and intimate. They had a fine selection of wine as well. Our glasses stayed full. If you are going to go here, you must eat their bread. The service was great and I tipped them on top of the gratuity that was automatically charged. I tipped them well. It was a little strange after payment, it was as if they were done being extra nice to us. Maybe we stayed too long or things got busy. Other than that the night was perfect.
Enjoyed a beautiful meal at model milk. Highly recommend the calamari and the apple pie. But, i don t think you d go wrong with anything on the menu!
There were a few highlights and a few disappointments with my experience. First off, service was great. The server was very polite and we had a nice conversation. Venue was chic and I enjoyed the open kitchen concept. The calamari was really tender and soft in texture, and the croutons gave it a different dimension. The dish did come salty with the sauce but overall a nice dish. Happy to give it 3.5/5. The halibut was quite disappointing to be honest. The sauce had a nice tang but it was salty and a bit too sour. I think one of the pickled veggies were coming rancid, but I wasnt too sure if this was the pickling or if it was actually going bad. I think the part that was disappointing was that for 45, the halibut was rubbery, dry and chewy that it was slightly like jerky on the exterior. They did a re-fire for me which was nice. The second one did have a better cook but it was still unevenly cooked and dry to be honest. There was also a small strand of hair unfortunately. Reshma, the manager of the place did come up to me personally after I mentioned a few of these mishaps and she was very constructive with my criticism. She did offer me an apple pie, which I do agree with everyone that it was delicious. The white Cheddar added a savoury component. Quite subtle but paired nicely with the sweet notes of apple. Crust was crispy when warmed. Vanilla ice cream was ok, and I wouldnt mind a bit more tartness but overall a wonderful dessert.
Great food and atmosphere!
Delicious food, fantastic cocktails, amd great service
Food was good. However there were rodents running around the dining room and the staff did not seem to care or acknowledge how disgusting that is. Wonder what the kitchen looks like!
