Incredible Dim Sum, delicious, fast service, wide selection of dishes.

We visited silver dragon at around 5:00pm for dinner. There were hardly anyone there and the owner, who took us to our tables was very unfriendly to us, which is strange as we have been coming here for about 30 years so he pretty much knows us now. The other owner who was at the front( his son I think) seemed to have a bad cold as he was coughing a lot around us and other customers without covering his cough, which is unsanitary and made us uncomfortable considering that cold and flu season is upon us. They seemed to be friendlier to other customers but completely ignored us longtime customers who are always friendly and courteous every time we come in. The ladies who served us on the other hand were very friendly and brought our meal to us very fast and quickly.

Delicious place for Dim Sum.

Disclaimer: Only had dim sum. Bit overpriced given the quality of the food and its a award wining restaurant. Texture of the shrimp dim sum is a bit odd. The beef tripe is uneatable when it comes to flavours. Above average renovations with generic level of service. Very loud at lunch hour.

Good dim sum cuisine. The food wasnt anything amazing but it was worth going! Come and try it out, see if its to your liking. In Chinatown Calgary, this place will fill your craving for dim sum. The server did make a mistake and thought we had 5 instead of four people, so the checkout took a bit longer to sort it out.

Food was top tier. But there were lots of flies attracted to my wine which was very hard to get a refill for and it was $15 for a small glass.

Silver Dragon offers an incredible dining experience with fresh and flavorful dishes! Every bite was delicious, and the ingredients tasted so fresh. The service was also top-notch; the staff went out of their way to accommodate our request for a side of spicy peppers, which we really appreciated. The Peking Duck, crispy seafood rice soup, and stir-fried vegetables were simply outstanding! I highly recommend Silver Dragon for anyone looking for an authentic and memorable meal!

Got takeout after a reddit recommendation for this place. Got generic Chinese dishes that most restaurants should be good at palace chicken and ginger beef, fried rice and hot and sour soup. chicken was just this really bad sweet style chicken gummy in texture, ginger beef was really bland for being a spicy dish lol, fried rice was barely fried no real wok-e and the hot and sour soup was neither hot (spice wise) or sour, sounds like a joke but I sadly this is what we got. we stayed at a hotel just 2 mins away. And ate the food just 10 mins after taking it from the restaurant, so no issue of letting the food sit. Also the price these guys charge and the portion size they give in relation is downright robbery. All in all gonna stick with our favorite Chinese place instead which is called Great Taste and they are right next to these guys, and every dish is miles better.

I would try to avoid coming here anymore. The food is not as good as it used to be pre-pandemic. They have changed head cooks because of retirement. This is the first time ever where I had roasted garlic chicken and the roasted garlic pieces were so stale and bad tasting, I had to spit it out, it was so awful. I was there with a large group, so did not get a chance to say anything. The lobster and crab dish also came out cold.

My absolute favorite Dim Sum stop

Ordered take-out. Chicken Fried Rice, was more like rice and peas. Barely any and Egg or Chicken. Rice tasted burnt. Waited a half hour for the take out to be ready. Fortune Cookies with your order is customary where I am from, there were no Fortune Cookies.

Especially recommended for people who like authentic Chinese food. This restaurant in Chinatown has a good reputation among the locals, and its dim sum is especially popular. Weekend lunchtime is the best time to enjoy dim sum, there are a wide variety of options and they are all delicious! The spacious restaurant is easy to use even for groups, making it perfect for hanging out with family or friends. The prices were reasonable, and considering the quality of the food, I felt it was good value for money.

I walked here from the Hyatt easily and all I ordered was the dumplings/ potstickers. Fantastic. I wish I could have been here with family to eat everything I saw the looked good.

Dim sum for the whole family. Eight people eating, everyone left satisfied. Many dishes were excellent. Only a couple werent to my taste but others liked them. Will definitely go back. Parking: We went on Sunday when street parking is free

Ive been coming to Silver Dragon as a child! This restaurant still has the same delicious food and atmosphere from when I was kid. Loved it and will be back!

The restaurant is located in the heat of Chinatown, it reminds me of the establishments I grew up with, the decor is period correct with lots of wood panel walls, golden phoenix and dragon sculptures. And an aquarium with Koi fishes. The food is also very good, serving the key staples of har gow, siu mai, hum bao, etc all good and delicious food. The wait staff are kind, professional and not pushy. A great establishment that has served the community for over 50 years. Definitely a must stop in Calgary for dim sum.

Great dim sum on Sundays

Silver Dragon is a historical landmark in Calgary Chinese food and theyve kept up with the times without sacrificing that charm. Speaking specifically about dim sum, they still do the old fashioned cart service in an era of restaurants that have either abandoned the practice or are too new to ever have had it. It randomizes your experience and encourages you to try new dishes without requiring you to know everything youre ordering up front. Plus, no wait since you get it right from the cart! Every server we had spoke English well, and described the dishes we werent familiar with, and were a delight to deal with. The food was good, Id say significantly better than Regency on a weekday lunch. At least when we went, there were some classics like shrimp toast which I personally havent had in decades which was nice to see. All in all a great experience and part of Calgarys food history.

Outstanding food! Ginger chicken was awesome and the best I have ever had. The special fried rice was epic. Their portion size is massive. We ordered 2 entrees and 1 special fried rice, it could have fed a family of 4-5. Highly recommend!! Wheelchair accessibility: No elevator available, only lots of very steep stairs.

One of the worst dining experience I ve ever had. First the staff barely spoke English and never came to greet us and show us the menu. Also every time we had to call the serves, they ignored us and were rude. It feels like the serves come to your table offering some dishes options, but that was never explained to us. We were just trying to understand the dynamics of the restaurant, we were just confused. Food was very average, but it could have been much better if they have served us in a kind way

Wouldnt recommend. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend. While the food and atmosphere were okay, the prices were really high and the portions were pretty small. We paid over $55 for just 2 dishes. We also had to wait 45 minutes for the food and the restaurant wasnt even full. It would take under 20 minutes in other restaurants. I noticed that there are very few chinese people in this restaurant signifying that people dont like this place. I would recommend going next door to either U & Me restaurant, Calgary Court Restaurant, Great Taste Chinese Restaurant, or my personal favourite, Chinese Cultural Centre Cuisine. All of them have better prices, better tasting chinese food, better service, and actually have chinese people eating there. 2 stars.

Very authentic Hongkong style DimSum. Very reasonable price. My family enjoyed before flying back to U.S.

Service was very slow; we sat down and had others come in a good 20 minutes after we did, and they had their food and paid before we got ours. The portion sizes for the Dinner for Two were not worth it at all. I recommend going somewhere else if you are in the mood for Chinese. We didnt tip because of the poor service and thats something I rarely ever do I normally give a minimum of 10% and they said What no tip most people give us at least 20%

Pressure from the moment we got our menu s go hurry up and order and then terrible service with our entrees all coming out at different times. Last person to receive her order got regular fried rice and that was all after some of us were done our 3 course meal! We asked where her food was several times and no reason was given. Very disappointed in the service.

Very delicious food, except quite a long wait.

A great experience. We decided to visit on Friday to avoid the crowds. It was still hopping at 1PM. I dont know what happened to my photos, but I just cant find them. It was funny to see the managers dressed in country garb for Stampede. We were sat quickly and noticed a mixture of dim sum carts and wait staff with trays of delectable dim sum. Everything was very fresh and there was a lot of variety. After eating what we wanted from the carts, we ordered some lotus leaf rice and our daughter wanted ginger beef. Everything was excellent. We love the exchange rate. The three of us ate until we were stuffed for $55 Canadian, which was $39 US Dollars.

Tasteless for the attitude they were dishing while I placed an order and picked up. Food is below standard for the price paid.

Silver Dragon Restaurant is a business thats been around for a very long time located in the heart of Chinatown, years ago they had an amazing lunch buffet that would be jam packed every Friday where my co-workers and I would feast, the food was really top quality and if anything I think its gotten better. We decided to start with the Wonton soup then onto the Ginger beef and also Crispy fried chicken with an order of Mixed veg and noodles. Everything was fresh and tasty with no complaints at all, plus bonus leftovers for the next day. Great food and very hospitable staff.

Make sure if you order online you see what location it is! We showed up at the Banff location and no one offered to help with our mix up. We then called the Calgary location SEVERAL times letting it ring and ring and no answer to cancel the order. The Calgary location called an hour later to tell us our order was ready and was extremely rude when we said we had been calling to cancel and no one would answer the phone. Anyway, I cannot review the food only service impression from both locations. It would ve just been nice to have some caring service at the Banff location to help us fix this mix up. Being tired from hiking and barely any cell service makes planning meals last minute very difficult and some kindness would ve been greatly appreciated.

The types of dim sum are delicious. Overall, its okay. There is a unique rule in which an additional fee is charged for installment payments of $20 or less.

Stopped by Calgary on our way to Banff. Really wanted some Chinese food and found this one on Google being one of top Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, I found the food to be average. Service was also mediocre. Wouldnt come back.

The restaurant is on the second floor and has no access for handicap. No elevator or lift. Made it hard to climb stairs for seniors. Staff were friendly. The host up front was a bit too serious though. Food was good overall. Dim sum items were excellent. Menu has lots of Chinese food items. The green onions were the only thing I wasn t happy with, they were so greasy. Shredded pork was excellent.

The dumplings felt like they were pre-frozen and bought from a supermarket, the pecking duck was undercooked and they d forgot our rice for our kung po chicken which was the only semi eatable thing there. Also the waiter constantly was coughing without covering his mouth. I would not recommend this place.

Wish I had more time to try their dinner menu as I only had enough time for dim sum and it was a great experience, the food and service is top notch and they offer the traditional carts and direct ordering with you servers. This is the first and best dim sum restaurant Ive been to where the servers are very observant to meet your needs before you need to chase down a server for service. I saw theyve won the best in Clagary every year and are well deserved. Definitely be back next time Im in the area or make a detour.

Did not appreciate the three servers and staff preparing table who were sick and coughing constantly without covering their mouths or not wearing masks. I found it ironic that they promote using hand sanitizers before sitting down. Dim dum was good. Fried rice was bland but was ok. Service was fast and friendly and they frequently asked if everything was ok. However my wife felt uncomfortable by all the OPEN coughs and wanted to leave asap. Which we did.

This is by far the best dim sum in calgary. Amazingly good and high quality shrimp rice rolls. Har gow and shu mai were both excellent. Traditional cart style served food. Good English from all staff. Very organized and Will recommend!

Authentic Chinese dishes. Very well prepared and delicious. Services were very good. Got fortune cookies at the end which I havent seen for a long while in Vancouver. A pleasant reminder of the old days when fortune cookies were given, take home containers didnt charge more, and no charges for tea, which was on the weak side unfortunately. A bucket of rice for two was a bit pricey, but acceptable.

Nice calm atmosphere. We popped by for a bit of lunch and really enjoyed the pork spring rolls. The sticky rice was perfect! Fantastic price! We left feeling satisfied

I came here for dim sum breakfast, but the service was very poor. Despite being the only table there, the staff couldnt serve us properly. The servers seemed sleepy and gave us attitude (especially Wendy). We complained to the manager, but he said we arrived too early because more staff come later, even though we came during their operating hours. If they re not ready to serve at that time, they should change their operating hours. Its not an excuse for them to give us attitude just because they don t have enough staff.

Half of the staff were visibly ill. The waiter and host were both coughing this awful sounding hacking cough, and pulling tissue from their pockets and blowing their nose, all the while continuing to serve food. UNACCEPTABLE!

Took my step daughter for her first dim sum experience. Given this place was well rated, we went there. The wait staff was very rude to us. They served us KETCHUP with our spring rolls and deep fried wontons. Failed to serve us chop sticks. (My step daughter was very excited as she is learning how to use them) The portion sizes were so small, then there were extra charges on the bill. 90 dollars for 4 items and two drinks was ridiculous!!! I had waited so long for the bill and there was a time crunch I didnt have time to argue the extra charges. I will never go to this establishment again. Poor service and small portions. Way too long of a wait for your food.

The food was really tasty but the sweet pork buns were a little stingy on the filling. Ive had them much fuller but they were still good. Service was attentive enough and the ambiance is quite nice. Theyve got a nice selection and the food was very fresh and done well.

My friend took us here for dim sum after Calgary Expo. It really hit the spot. Plenty of familiar fair with chicken sui mai, har gow, char sui bao. The custard bao had a salted egg yolk that surprised me a bit. Not normally a fan of salted yolks but the custard has absorbed the salt and it was rather tasty and satisfying even if the texture was just a smidge grainy (probably because of the salt?). Would definitely return. Service was fast and hospitable.

The absolute BEST gluten free Chinese food Ive ever had. Ginger Beef, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, and Beef and Broccoli - all outstanding and can be made gluten free!!

Great food and amazing service

Ahhhh, I would try the dragon style over the wutang.

The food is always decent. But this time the manager obviously had a cold. Instead of trying to avoid spreading the germs, he stood by our table doing nothing except sneezing and coughing. The restaurant wasn t busy and there were plenty of waitresses on duty so I was really wondering why he had to stand by customers tables the whole time. Now I m coughing and sneezing just like him, thank you for the good job!

We arrived Calgary 6:00pm and all Chinese BBQs were closed. Silver Dragon was the only reasonable choice. The waitress named Sam was attentive and accommodating. But the steamed fish was from frozen fillets but full of bones and smell bad. The BBQ duck was cooked not BBQ/roasted (very disappointing) the young pea pod leaves were tougher than tree barks but flavorful, the steamed white rice was mushy. Will see if there are other better Chinese places in town.

Usually our go-to place but last night the owner/manager was visibly sick and coughing everywhere, not covering his mouth, blowing his nose and not washing his hands. Doing this while walking around the restaurant. Was quite disgusting and very disappointing. We even told our server who told us it was just allergies , but even so, this person should not be working.

Rude staff and not worth the money. The portion sizes were small and overpriced, the half pecking duck definitely wasn t half a duck. This has to be some of the worst Chinese food in town entirely. The chicken chow mein had zero flavour and was soupy. Sweet and sour chicken same thing, first bite couldn t even swallow. Less soupy greasiness in these dishes. My lord just awful. I m sorry to write such a bad review guys but you need new cooks or something. Just terrible. I have yet to taste a very good Chinese food place in Calgary. Absolute awful.

I used to go here with my family all the time and one of my memories was them offering to pay our food bill if my uncle ate a large order....he succeeded, the Crickmore/ODell family will always think of this as the BEST Asian cuisine weve ever had

It is very disappointing to see all the hard work that this restaurant has put into building its brand Is just letting it go down the drain. The quality of the food was absolutely horrible. Its like no love in the cooking at all. So sad to experience this definitely will not be going back

I ordered food from this restaurant for the first time, and had it delivered. They have their own in-house delivery, and it arrived fast and hot. The delivery person was really friendly, and the food tasted amazing. Some of the best chinese food I have had in the city. I will definitely be ordering from here again. I highly recommend it.

Celebrated the Chinese New Year. Good ol Silver Dragon! Food

Our waiter Wilson was very rude. We were the only table in the restaurant at 5pm. It wasn t busy at all! He was obviously sick, coughing all over the place with no mask on! I honestly wanted to offer him some cough drops. When he took our order he was again Rude. We asked for salt and pepper and soy sauce he seemed annoyed that we asked. Was walking to the kitchen muttering under his breath. We asked for one coffee before asking for the bill it took ten minutes and the waiter the no got upset because we didn t ask for a sugar packet! The food was great the service was absolutely terrible. I believe we will order takeout from now on.

I went for lunch. I was seated quickly. The wait staff was helpful. The food was delicious. I would have give them 4 stars. But my bill was inflated with an extra charge. Open Beef and T.O supplies. I was charged dinner prices because I finished my meal after lunch. I felt nickeled and dimes.

Food was dry, over priced, and not what I ordered. Second time we had bad food from there recently. It used to be great but wont be ordering frome silver dragon again :(

We went here after our US Visa appointment and we are satisfied with our food. I really liked the soup. The staff were all good however, they keep on cleaning the table even though we re not yet done eating. Also, the washrooms are not clean.

Always a wonderful experience at Silver Dragon. Dedicated and hard working staff, high quality food, price is appropriate for high quality. I dont ever want to see this gem change!

Went for dim sum and I was NOT impressed at all. Normally I would love to see many carts go by. Food was slow passing by with a sparse selection. I dont think I will be back. Plus the restroom was nasty and smelled horrible. Parking: Public lot across the street from the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: It is not wheelchair accessible and the stairs were difficult.

Our server didnt seem to want to be there and only came by 3 times even though we told him the initial order is what we would start with. Fortunately the rest of the staff was attentive and friendly. Could use a bit of a reno but was cozy. We were surprised by how affordable the dinner dim sum menu was. Averaging $10 a plate. Smaller portion sizes but allows you to try more items. All the food except the ginger beef was amazing!!!! Definitely a staple in Calgary. Will continue to recommend. Parking: We parked a block away where there was both free street parking and a pay lot.

Fast and fabulous.

The fish maw was still chewy, indicating that it was not cooked properly. The Peking Duck was cold and lacked the distinctive flavour it used to have. Overall, it was a very disappointing birthday supper. I believe its time to move on from this place and find a new go-to restaurant where we can truly enjoy our meals without wasting money on food that is no longer up to par.

Really nice place to stop and eat. The food is delicious, they have so much variety, its really good. A bit expensive, but totally worth it.

2024 update. Service seems to get worse as time goes. Took off another star. The dim sum quality and variety is consistently good. Havent seen anything new introduced in a long time, which is why I took off a star. Food : 4/5

We were visiting Calgary on a family day long weekend and decided to eat at this restaurant for dinner. Service is slow, food came in untimely manner, like the soup came at the end of the meal. The food is not that great, more western Chinese. Servers were rude and the 2 men who were tending the front door and watching the people in the restaurant made me uncomfortable.They didn t even thank us when we left the restaurant. Definitely not going back.

I have been here many times in the past but have dined here recently. I had their dim sum which was truly excellent. The staff seemed very attentive and they had a variety of selection to choose from. The facility was located in China town and although, it appeared to be an older building; it was clean inside the facility. For the price, I would highly recommend this restaurant. I will definitely be coming back as I really enjoyed the food and the experience.

Some of the tastiest Chinese food I ve ever had!

Its has top notch dimsum. The service is OK. But the food makes it worth it. Literally watch the first step when you climb the stairs its unusually high and is a trip hazard.

Honestly we had been going to this restaurant for the past 14 years, every time we visit Calgary we will go there have a nice meal and it was amazing food. However this time, it was the worst experience we ever had. To start off, it took 15 mins to get water and the staffs whom we asked for help certainly got attitude (not sure why), then it took a very long time to get the food that we ordered (after 40 mins we had to cancel the remaining of the order and left), mind you its 2PM when we left, it is not the prime lunch time. For the price that they are charged, we expected a good service and good food, which it was not the case here. We will not going back , just terrible dinning experience.

Silver Dragon has been our favourite dim sum, Chinese food, restaurant, not only in Calgary, but also properly in Canada. They are still operating in the traditional way, pushing trolleys of dim sum around to sell their dim sum. However, they actually also take your order of any dim sum you want that you cannot see in any of the trolleys. Thats what I was told when I asked for radish cake after seeing none in a few trolleys. Overall, food has always been very delicious. They have some dim sums that are more rare in other dim sum places, too. For example, Mexican buns with BBQ pork filling is phenomenonal. Radish cake is my favorite dim sum. Their prices are decent. Prices depend on the superiority of the dim sum, not related to its size. Staff are always very friendly. We always come when we are in town. Vegetarian options: I have vegetarian rice rolls but I am not sure if they are vegan.

One of the few places you get good fresh and tasty Chinese food in Calgary

The food is good. Weve been going there for the past 12 years. We brought my dad that paid the bill then we were walking out and our server chased us out and down the stairs to ask wheres my tip?!! My wife and I were in shock. We always tip but our dad paid and didnt tip because there were a couple things he didnt like about going there. Im not sure well be going back after that rant, basically yelling at us for a tip.

Some of the best Chinese in this city. Whether dim sum or regular menu, it s always a good time.

The servers was very friendly. We was there for dim sum. If you re hungry and want your food fast, you can ask them to bring what you like first. Dim sum was ok, some are plain and some are little sweet.

Wow, never had better Chinese

Ive been enjoying their Dim Sum for many years. Of course, their popularity has some drawbacks (noise) but not so much as to keep me away.

My family has been going to Silver Dragon for about 50 years. We are obsessed and the service is fantastic. I highly recommend ginger beef, almond chicken, beef and peapods and especially their hot and spicy dry ribs.

Used to be quite good, not sure what s happened. $18 for a plate of Chinese broccoli is a bit excessive.

Went for dim and take out. AmaIng to see waitress spoke and understood English. Dim was yum taken out king pow chicken chicken fried rice szecjus. Chicken were all tasty. I have been here since 1997. Love it

the Calgary style ginger beef is amazing

We have dined in here for dinner. We have ordered the dishes which were marked as spicy on the menu. We have mentioned this to the server, but when we got the order on our table, it was sweet. We did not expect that taste, and my wife had to leave the food uneaten since it was sweet. When the server came to our table and asked how the food was, we told him it was not okay. We have mentioned spicy food, and you guys served unspicy food. He asked us where are you from? I said India, and he was like we live in Canada. I asked him, So what?. He stopped the conversation, and I was ready to take up the argument. I hate this restaurant to the core and let the management teach some fing manners to the servers and do not cross the limits with the customers. If that is the discrimination you want to show customers, Canada is not the right place to serve the people with that arrogance. If you dont serve spicy food, better not show that on your menu and highlight it with the peppers saying it is spicy. Pathetic customer service!!

Went for Dim Sum in December 2022. Long story made short, I got food poisoning eating at this establishment!

They have all the standards, and good portions. My favourite is the chinese donut rice noodle roll. Ive had their standard menu but it was my first time trying their dim sum today.

Great cantonese food, their pan fried crab with garlic and chili is the best (but be sure to call ahead to make sure it is available). Cant wait to come back

Variety of dim sum is brought fresh from the back using carts that make their rounds regularly. Flavorful and its always fresh. Perfect for small or large group. Service is not that good.

Dim Sum for Sunday breakfast bliss, this is the hit. All the steamed dumpling, bun and meaty surprises one can imagine. Get a big group of mates around the sacred turntable of bamboo baskets, shrimp balls and lots of laughs. Always a pleasure to eat at this legendary establishment. Pork Shumai to the grave.

Been coming here as a family for over 30 years but I think thats coming to an end. We usually love the food, but the service was so poor the last time we went, that my parents who have been life long customers now no longer want to come back. The dumplings were delicious, food was hot, (except for a sauce that was frozen in the middle) but the food was unceremoniously dropped in front of us. Staff were rude, and we believed they were talking about us. We felt judged, not welcomed, which was entirely strange as we knew what we wanted to order, were efficient, and said please and thank you on every interaction. Its a pity this was our last experience as I have many very good memories at the Silver Dragon and its how I was introduced to Dim Sum as a child. The restaurant has changed greatly since the pandemic, and I can no longer recommend it when Ive had much better experiences with better cost elsewhere.

Came for lunch with a friend on Sunday and had dim sum which was very good. I dont get out for dim sum often so it seems theres always some new dishes that are fun to try. I believe Silver Dragon would be a lot more comfortable and inviting than most restaurants in the Chinatown area. Service was good with a steady flow of carts.
