The best SW Chinese cuisine .Authentic Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan food 地/道/云/贵/川/湘/美/食
We ordered the water-boiled fish and the pig knuckle. Both servings were very large. The fish was a little different than other places. There was a large dollop of garlic in the center and a thickening agent, maybe corn starch, which was different. The spice level was fairly mild and could have used more Szechuan peppercorns but the chilis were toasted very nicely. The pork knuckle was good but the broccoli could have been cooked a little longer. Overall, both dishes were good and they have many others that I'd like to try.
Best Chinese Food in the City! Since Silver Inn closed down, nothing has come close to comparison... The owners are from Chef Tian—another Szechuan restaurant. Some people do not appreciate the spiciness or authenticity of the style of cuisine, so they leave bad reviews, but do not let it distract you. When we went everything about the experience was amazing. Each dish (except maybe the paneer) was uniquely delicious. I especially recommend the "potato chip" dish, the Cauliflower with Pork, and the Pumpkin with egg yolk sauce. There is nothing like this right now in Calgary! Prices are reasonable for the quality of ingredients. The owner was really sweet to us as well. We will be back. Edit: we have since returned with more visitors to try more dishes! Recommended the Szechuan pork long rib, Cured Beef with Lotus, the taro roll, and panda jelly for dessert
It has always been our To-Go restaurant!🉑🉑💗💗 Food is awesome and delicious with many varieties and choices. Never had any issue eatting out at this restaurant. Convenient location right in downtown with free parking (need to self register in the front desk). The service is awesome with many severs welcome you and stisfy your need at all times. Has separate rooms for private group gathering which is the most desired feature and can enjoy your dinning time with your friends and families to the fullest!!! You couldn't expect more within the city of Calgary! Go for it! :-)
The service is good, and the food is good. We ordered a few of the recommended dishes on the menu, and we have no regrets. Everything tasted so yummy and unique. The only thing is the 'Shanghai Baozi' seemed like it was from a pre-made packet rather than made fresh. Overall, I highly recommend this place."
Their dishes were better than grilled skewers. Ribs were little bit dry, the other dishes were petty good. Highly recommend their fried bacon.
Came here around CNY with family. Had to make reservation because every single chinese restaurant in calgary was packed. Food: flavors of all the dishes were good and closer the authentic chinese taste. My only complaint is that portion size of the meat dish (beef with tofu) is small. The spicy fish is made with basa filled and not what I expect (actual thinly filets of fish). Service is....better than avg chinese restaurant but not the most attentive either. Highly depends on which staff you get (yes ive been here good few times). Things I recommend to try: 气锅鸡( chicken soup),any items with their 腊肉 (preserved meat), their Okra is great for ppl that can't eat spicy, pork ear, the rose cake and taro cake, beef eith tofu, wild Mushroom dish. Parking is free (3hrs) if u register at desk.
I would say this is one of the best and most authentic Chinese restaurants in Calgary! We fell in love with them back to last November! It was at the previous location! Today we went to the new location, and it was even better! Easy to locate it and the parking is just in the front of the restaurant! The new restaurant is spacious, bright, and clean with the traditional and decent decoration! Best of it, there are several private VIP rooms with karaoke at various size for you to choose based on your needs: could be for a birthdays dinner or celebration for a promotion or a graduation or even a wedding……Really love the “Visualized” menu! All the dishes have its corresponding picture with the description of the ingredients and the price! Very convenient and helpful for you to decide which one you love to try! The food is not only fresh and delicious, but it is also looking attractive! The price is very competitive and reasonable with such huge quantity and great quality! The service was awesome! The moment we walked into the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by the waitress! We were led to the table we selected. They were very amiable, genuine, and diligent! Always being ready to help you with everything you need. It was really enjoyable and delightful! Well deserved a 5-star review! No doubt it is our favourite and designated Chinese restaurant for any of the occasion! Highly recommended! You should go and try!
Absolutely will come again! Everything looks so pretty and delicious! As a Chinese this is original taste from Yunan. The waitress is friendly and serve well. The owner put her heart to make sure service, dining environment and of course dishes taste at the best level. Each dishes we order are so yummy and presenting so nice. Highly recommend. Must try and will be regular customer here! They also have some nice donning private room for family gathering and group gathering! 5 star rating!
Food is ok but the service is not upto standard
We received something *completely* different from what was shown on the menu. I understand that menu photos can sometimes be just for advertising, but another dish we ordered actually resembled the picture quite closely. This one, however, was nearly all soup with just a few tiny pieces of wired taste meat, despite the menu showing a full slice of ham. Ive attached a photo to show you what I mean once you compare it to the menu image, youll understand the discrepancy. Its honestly pretty ridiculous. That said, I want to acknowledge the waiter. He was very kind and offered us complimentary desserts, trying his best to make things right, which I truly appreciate. However, I think the real issue lies with the cook. If you spend over $20 on a dish and receive something far below expectations, its hard not to be frustrated. Can you just delete this dish if you cannot cook it correctly? Feel so angry when I saw the picture again! Is this some kind of new fraud? Heres the masterpiece you served us tonight enjoy Cook! There is no difference between one dish and the picture, but the other dish cannot be said to be exactly the same, it has nothing to do with it! The whole dish is just a bowl of water with a few pea tips and strange-tasting meat residue floating in it. I didn t want to write a review because the waiter was really proactive in solving the problem, but if I didn t write a review, I don t know who the next lucky guy who orders this pickled delicacy would be. How long will this chef lie to himself about how to cook this dish? Wake up.
This restaurant used to be great before Covid .. nice spicy Chinese food.. thought of trying it out again after many years .. seriously disappointed on the taste .. lots of quantity & food was spicy but lacklustre taste. I was going to order from the restaurant called seahood but saw this one pop up & thought of trying it .. bad call
Good
This is the most authentic Chinese food you can get in Calgary, flavours are banging and service is exceptional! Would love if you guys had more beef and fish options!
Food was really good!
Stir-fried potato salad recommended
It s different from the Yunnan food I ve been to This is basically Sichuan cuisine, right?
The food is exquisite, the dish arrives at the table surprisingly quickly, but the waitresss attention leaves a lot to be desired. I think that because I was a foreigner, she served me poorly (compared to how she served Chinese diners) perhaps not many foreigners usually go there. Chinese. But the waitresss attention was bad, I had the pleasure of visiting several cities in China a few years ago and I can say that the food at this place is authentic Chinese food!
I don t give feedback on google often, but I have to say the service in this restaurant is at the next level. The waitress was very pushy and impatient. I don t know what she experienced, she wanted me to feel I was a trouble for her, didn t deserve her precious time. I was worried that If I didn t answer her questions promptly and correctly, as a punishment, I wouldn t get my take out.
I ve eaten at the Vancouver store and the Edmonton store, and since they both felt good, I thought I d check out the Calgary store. Now it seems that chasing a branch to eat is like chasing a star and you will eventually lose your house. I admit that I am gambling, but the food in this Yunzhinan restaurant has a very irritating taste.
Although the food is not poisonous, it makes me want to die when I eat it. It is not spicy or fragrant, the stir-fried vegetables are watery, and the grilled food is very oily.
Went to celebrate my cousins birthday. A rare gem. Delicious. Thanks for the excellent service. Treated like a V.I.P.
I recently had lunch at this restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a highly disappointing experience. Shortly after dining, both my companion and I experienced severe diarrhea, which raises serious concerns about the food quality and hygiene standards. The food itself seemed far from freshly prepared. The bottom of the food in the pot was cold, clearly indicating it had been prepared in advance and not reheated properly. This was further confirmed by how quickly the food was served barely five minutes after we placed our order, which made me very skeptical about the freshness of the dishes.I would strongly advise others to reconsider dining here, as the quality of the food and the potential health risks are simply not worth it. Just for reference, we paid $80 including tax and tips, but very disappointing.
Very mid. Tasted like microwaved food. Update: I got the most severe food poisoning in my life. Food : 2/5
extremely good dishes, especially Szechuan spicy chicken, this is fantastic. I went to the restaurant almost per week, the BBQ after 6:00PM, my boy like the spicy fish. Recommend it.
I traveled to Calgary before and was recommended by a friend to eat at this Chinese restaurant. It was really delicious! Before I went to Calgary for travel, recommended by a friend to this Chinese restaurant to eat, really good!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. I ve tried almost every dish, and each one is delicious, unique, and amazing. I highly recommend it.
The food tastes really good. I always invite friends to eat there and they all like it. The price is fine compare with other restaurants. Services are great and friendly.
Delicious dishes!great service, affordable price, must try!
Horrible staff ...rude and loud. Kindly do some training special the older lady at reception .
Horrible staff.
Superb and authentic Chinese cuisine. The whole experience is wonderfully Chinese, but the menu does have translations. Service is professional and questions are answered to guide you to your favorite dishes. All the items we try are delectable and the deep pride string beans are a must.
Food was amazing, however the customer service needs to be improved... Staff were a bit rude
I love everything about this place. Probably my favorite style of Chinese food these days. I really like the staff and the manager who talked to us for quite awhile last time I was here. Its tough being a restaurant owner these days when a little misstep and people give you a one star. I find the food value, flavour, and portions all absolutely amazing.
The lady boss is very nice, especially the Miaos sour fish soup has returned to the taste of domestic sour fish, and the dishes have improved a lot compared to the previous ones at the old address.
Best Yunnan cuisine in North America!
I m originally from Yunnan, China, and I now live in California. I can say this restaurant surpasses all the Yunnan restaurants in California that I visited (5+). Very authentic dishes and they remind me of home.
It s a really authentic Yunan food here. Tasting feels like back to hometown. My preferred dishes are mashed potatoes, cold spicy beef, and fried bean. I come here every time once I arrive at Calgary.
Best authentic Yunan cuisine in Canada. This resturant is a gem. Do yourself a favor and order the fresh rose pastry.
Just like the food I ate in my hometown. Its really authentic southwest chinese cuisine from Yunnan province. Fantastic food!
Super authentic Yunnan cuisine! Kaili fish in sour soup is highly recommended!
Delicious authentic Chinese Yunnan food, perfect if you are into sour and spicy flavours dishes. Parking: Free parking when you dine
My friend and I recently dined at South Silk Road Chinese Restaurant, and it was an incredible experience. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the exceptional service and warm ambiance. The food was absolutely amazing, bursting with authentic flavors that transported us straight to China. Every dish was a delight, and the entire dining experience felt genuinely authentic. The buckwheat tea was also amazing! A special shoutout to Samantha for her outstanding service! If youre looking for a fantastic meal and a great atmosphere, dont miss out on South Silk Road. Highly recommended!
I ordered a few authentic dishes, including beef, pot-roasted pork, cabbage, sizzling tofu and mushroom fried rice. They were all very delicious. The traditional drink Pao Guda is also very special and will be a restaurant I visit again.
Chinese dongbei style
The saliva chicken is well worth a try
2024-03-23 Chicken, rice and sprouts go very well with rice. It s just that the rice was a bit too hard today. 2023-11-26 Miao s dry pot chicken tastes pretty good (the potatoes would be better if they were softer). There are some new additions to the barbecue menu, and the grilled corn with cheese is delicious. 2023-10-14 The pigs trotter soup is delicious, and more snow peas would be better. 2023-01-07 We ate too much again, we eliminated 14 dishes. I won t be able to digest it if I don t run 30 kilometers tomorrow. 2023-01-01 This is at least the 4th time to eat in this restaurant . Todays ribs were of poor quality (lots of bones, not much meat). Other dishes are good.
They impolite
This is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Calgary! Flavorful dishes with generous portions. The service is always warm and welcoming. There are plenty of free parking as well (you just need to register your license plate). We eat here every couple weeks
Authentic Yunnan cuisine, delicious
Great food, it is a popular place. Lots of full flavour more authentic Asian food. Fav dishes pumpkin in egg yolk and fried green bean with pork though there are to many to mention
Authentic and delicious food with reasonable portions. Service was also very fast. We ordered 6 dishes, and got all of them on the table within 15 minutes. The staff were also super friendly. Will definitely come back again
Real Chinese food
bad.
Good southern Chinese style food. Good value and free parking.
Came in for dinner a few nights ago, the salted pork belly and wild mushrooms was delicious, also had the fried red beans which nowhere else in Calgary offers, one of my favorite snacks. The host and atmosphere was fantastic, I only wish I came in a bit later when they started serving skewers!
The foods are not bad here. However, the staffs are not helpful, they wont say hi, they keep chatting but not care about the customers. I dont think I will come again.
Very friendly owner and clerks and delicious food
Waited long to get our food. Two desk People who came behind us already started eating. Disappointed!
If youre yearning for a restaurant specializing in North American Chinese look elsewhere! If your taste buds are craving an authentic Chinese culinary experience, then youve stumbled upon the perfect spot. From the moment we stepped in, the staff greeted us with genuine warmth and happiness. Seeking their expertise, we asked for recommendations, and they enthusiastically guided us through their menu, emphasizing the traditional essence of their dishes. Every dish they presented us with was a symphony of flavors, each ingredient harmonizing perfectly with the others. The spices were perfectly balanced, accentuating the rich depth of each dish, and best of all the food arrived promptly. This dining experience left a lasting impression, and Im already planning my next visit. In a world where authenticity is often sacrificed for mass appeal, its refreshing to find a restaurant that stays true to its roots. If youre in search of an unforgettable culinary journey, do yourself a favor and pay this establishment a visit. You wont be disappointed.
Very unpalatable food. The dry pot chicken I ordered only had chicken racks. The pigs trotters had a strange smell, and the grilled fish was especially fishy. The food was quickly served and gave people the feeling of reheating leftovers. It was a particularly vicious meal.
The chicken was very old and had a lot of bones mixed in which felt like a half-finished product or a secondary processed texture. The grilled fish smelled fishy and was not fresh. The roasted pigs feet was originally recommended by others, but I didn t realize that the pigs feet was also very old and not fresh. It took a long time for us to get the packing box, even though there were very few dine-in customers. The chicken is very old and has a lot of chicken bones mixed in. It feels like a semi-finished product or a secondary process. The grilled fish had a strong smell and was not fresh. The roasted pigs trotters was originally recommended by others, but I didnt expect that the pigs trotters were also very old and stale. It took a long time for our takeaway boxes to be given to us, even though there were very few people dining in at that time.
The restaurant was located at the west fringe of downtown, so parking was a bit of a concern. We had to park along the 10th avenue outside of COOP. When we got into the restaurant, we waited at the door for 5 minutes and no one talked to us. We had to find our friends in one of the rooms to seat ourselves. Finally we got into the room, we started to wonder how could we got service. Sure enough, every time we needed to order, got more tea refill, needed more napkins or chopsticks, we had to get out of the room to find someone. The sevice button in the room was not working. As for the food, the duck was a bit salty, the beef on sticks was dry and the chicken with red chill was full of chilly and not much chicken. On the positive note, the beef with tofu, the fried rice and the vegetable were above average.
The newly opened Yun Zhinan can be regarded as the ceiling of Sichuan cuisine in Calgary! The taste is authentic, the portions are generous, the ingredients are fresh, and the presentation is exquisite. There are also many small private rooms suitable for family and friends gatherings!
The beef was not stewed well, and the Maoxuewangli dishes were not flavourful. There was no other flavor except chili. It was like a semi-finished product that was not cooked properly in order to serve it quickly. Very disappointing.
The food in the service in this newer Calgary restaurant is simply incredible. None of the dishes are greasy at all, and all the ingredients are super fresh. Well the Kung Pao chicken is still my favorite, the fried rice with prosciutto and green onion is incredible. I will certainly be returning on a regular basis to try lots of the amazing dishes they have on their menu. In addition, they actually post images of each dish in the menu, so you can get a really good idea of each dish specifically prior to ordering. In addition, they also gave us some amazing free tea as well that was simply lovely that paired perfectly with our mains. A must visit for those in or around calgary.
Very authentic Chinese cuisine.
Very good, there are private rooms!
Disappointing dishes. My family used to be such a big fan of South Silk Road but over the recent years the food quality has gone down hill a lot. Its no longer the place we liked.
I had better Yunnan dishes before so it was unimpressed by my standard. However, their portions were generous and you can still gobble it down with several bowls of rice. Some of their rooms have karaoke so it is a fun place for large gatherings.
The food was very tasty and unique with the Yun Nan area cuisine style. Price is good when coming with 4+ friends, because you could try everything and share tgt. The Salad was refreshing with the lime & fish sauce touch, and Frog leg pot was my another fav.
Consistently great food. My favourite Chinese restaurant in Calgary. Just eh aware that the food is generally spicy and may not suit everyone.
bad customer service
Authentic Szechuan dishes that you ll love at first bite! Szechuan dishes are mainly spicy stir-fry, soups and cold cuts. You ll see a lot of chillies, but don t let it intimidate you! The spicy comes and go fast, so you can keep on munching more food! Their menu is diverse and offers variety of dishes like cold cut meats, seafood, beef stews, stir fry pork and chicken, dimsums and many more! We got the Spicy beef and ox tongue on Chili sauce and it was so good and savoury! Best for appetizer! We also had Xiao long bao (soup dumpling) and it s one of the best we ve had in the city! Dipping sauce was amazing and the ration of the wrapper to the meat is perfect. Main dish is the Spicy pickled fish fillet soup. Very savoury that adds a lot of kick with every sip! Fish fillet was so tasty and it was complimented by the additional glass noodle in the soup. Serving per dish was BIG. The restaurant is meant for big group gatherings, so most of their dishes are meant to be shared. They have lots of private rooms too if you want to dine with your family/friends in a private space. They also have free parking (Indigo). Will definitely coming back to try their other dishes.
Finally a good Chinese restaurant in Calgary. The decor is simple the food good.
Normally I don t give bad feedback at google reviews, but this time is one of the worst Chinese Food experience ever here in Calgary, the food was very salty, tasted like the chef used the same sauce for different dishes. We ordered spicy beef and tofu, you can literally counted how many beef there , totally not worth the money. The restaurant is so noisy and the crowded because the owner wants to set up as much tables as they can. Also, the bathroom was not clean at all. Totally disappointed, will never never come back again! Vegetarian options: No taste
Excellent barley tea, I have came here before when is newly open, and all the food is great. Came back again, and recommended to other people. However this time is terrible. The food looks nothing like the picture as the menu (p.s it use to taste good and look exactly like it) waiter says that it should be off cause it s just a picture. But it look so different. First dish, $23 for a tiny small dish with 4 small pieces of meat with lots of lotus. And didn t taste the same as before. We sent one potato dish back ( same issue) the potato look smooshy and wet. Lastly, we ordered the rice, and it came in last when we finished all our food. When we re about to pay, none of the waiter looks at us. Maybe cuz they know that their food is terrible as well and it s not right and didn t say anything, but I wanted to let them know it s not their fault, it s the chefs. Table service is ok. It use to be amazingly good, that s why I recommend it to all my friends and family. After today I don t think I m ever going back again! I felt embarrassed showing my family to this restaurant telling them that is super good, and all the food turn out to be bad. It s just not as good as before! Bring back the old chef!!! I had ask the waiter if the chef had changed, and they told me no . But i felt like it did for sure! From 5 stars to 1 star.
The cumin mutton is filled with side dishes, and there is so little meat that you can t even see it. It s not practical to do business. There are a lot of portions for meals in Calgary, but the portions at this restaurant are shockingly small.
Love this place, my family will go there almost every week. good service and delicious food! If you like spicy food and want to try real Chinese cuisine, this is the right place for you!!
The food here is amazing! We were so sad when we thought they closed. The 3 stars are for the dining experience. My partner and I really miss the old location. It was much cozier and inviting. The new location has a really weird vibe/energy. It feels heavy. We almost left but then our server came and we decided to stay. If youre in the main dining room its more accommodating but the private rooms are quite isolating and just feel off. I recommend doing take it out, but I dont think well be dining in again unless were closer to the entrance. We love the food though!
We have found it to be a place to bring friends when visiting. They love the athletic dishes for people that love hot spicy dishes. We enjoy bringing our friends here when they are in town visiting. Top review to chiefs staff and atmosphere. We don t use the many private rooms which should be reserved. Vegetarian options: They have many choices for me as a vegetarian. But I do eat fish. Very athletic dishes for people that love hot spicy dishes. We enjoy bringing our friends here when they are in town visiting. Top review to chiefs staff and atmosphere. We don t use the many private rooms which should be reserved. Parking: There are enough parking spots for customers
I love South Silk Road for the authentic cuisine. I worked all around China for 25 years. When I want the real flavours and dishes of Sichuan, Yunnan and Xinxiang, I go here. Wonderful ambiance and service, too. Vegetarian options: Lots of choice Parking: Easy parking on 10 th. Right by Mid-town Coop
Authentic Yunnan cuisine. Amazing flavors with just the right amount of spice, but I love spicy food. I would say the spice level is tolerable for most people. The fish in chili oil soup is an amazing dish. We also had the Kung Pao Chicken and Fried Green Beans in Black Bean Sauce. I have had these dishes at many restaurants, but South Silk Road does them the best. I think this is my new favorite restaurant!
Authentic Chinese food, each food has its feature. portions are decent. great service.
Delicious authentic Chinese food at the right price! New kid on the block is shaking up the eating experience. The minute you step in a passion for food is evident, the chairs are firm but comfortable, encouraging you to lean across the table for a dish. The tables are solid wood and a treat to look at, but its the food that teases you by looking delicious, entices you with its scent and then still surpasses expectations to taste bold, striking and stasifying. The entire ambiance is setup to focus and enchance the eating experience with friends and family. Samantha - one of the owners - is real friendly and her passion for her food shines through from the decor to the choice of plates and even the chopsticks which are neat looking. BE WARNED - This isnt the mass produced dulled down fanfare you find in a foodcourt. South Silk Road is the real deal. Honorable mention - best complimentary tea Ive had in Calgary.
Hands down some of the best, most authentic Chinese food I ve had in Calgary. The portions are big and prices are very reasonable, not to mention everything I ve tried here has tasted amazing! I had been searching for somewhere with Yunan style Chinese and I m so happy I found South Silk Road! I highly recommend the griddle chicken and prosciutto and wild mushroom fried rice. :) Dietary restrictions: I am gluten intolerant and the staff were very friendly and understanding of my dietary restrictions. I had no problems here. Parking: Free indigo parking!
This restaurant was the best in town for me until I got food poison and diarrhea. The quality of food are getting worst.
The people that visit the restaurant park in front of it and ignore the do not park signs that are reserved for the other businesses .
Really good place for someone who likes spicy food! Like their hot fish filets the most. Will definitely come back and recommend to my friends!
The product is stable and the service is good. It can be used as a canteen
Did the chef change? I picked out a bowl of green onions from the Kung Pao Chicken. The whole dish only smelled of green onions. I looked for the diced chicken among the green onions. The porcini fried rice also tasted different from before. There was no taste at all, only a few eggs.
Good food, better service
Very good!
Very nice and special foods. I had a very nice experience.
Very good food
I ordered more than a dozen dishes and they were all delicious!
Had dinner with over 10 friends at this restaurant, everyone enjoyed the dishes, taste good and very impressed. I also very like the private dining room, all friends can talk freely. Parking is free. Definitely I will come again. Parking: You can park in front of or beside the restaurant, then register your plate in the restaurant, thus your parking will be free.
Really great food and service. Recommended !
Authentic Chinese food, great service. Private room is highly recommended for larger group.
I didn t make a reservation last night because there were too many people and I didn t want to wait too long, so I ordered takeout instead. It didn t affect the taste at all. I will continue to patronize it
Great Hunan and Sichuan food. Fresh ingredients, large portions, tasty, spicy! The service was kind and professional :-)
Comfortable environment and good taste
There are all kinds of cuisines. Guobaorou yyds
I ordered their grilled fish from Uber eats. They package the fish and broth separately. The question is why do you use rice ball bags to hold soup? I thought it was delivered by mistake, but when I opened the package and found that there was no soup, the courier had already left. You can pack it separately, but you shouldn t use rice ball bags to pack Uber eats food. This can easily lead to misunderstandings.
The food is delicious, nothing wrong with it. But I have never seen this kind of service attitude. I think I am much more polite than the front desk clerk. Maybe because the food is so delicious, the customers have to come, and then the waiters attitude doesnt matter.
I ordered cold noodles, pickled fish soup, and Kung Pao Chicken. All dishes are very tasty. I will definitely come to this restaurant again next time I visit Calgary!
fantastic authentic chinese food unlike anything in Calgary. come hungry, share some dishes amongst your group. cant wait to come back
Excellent Yunnan food and super friendly service. Parking: Register your plate inside the restaurant Food : 5/5 |
Respect on the waiters, they are so nice.
This stir-fried minced pork with pickled beans is not sour and doesn t have many beans. $23
This is my first time in Calgary. I found this restaurant on Xiaohongshu and ordered three dishes. Xiaohongshu highly recommends saliva chicken. The ratio of chicken to bones is 40% to 60%. It is impossible to avoid the bones in one bite. Apart from the salty taste, there is no aroma. The trotter soup has a very strong smell of pig. At first I thought it was packed with plastic and smelled bad. After I ate the pig trotters, I realized that the pig trotters were not properly treated and I brought it directly to you. This pig dug a hole in its own mud pond. rolling scene Dai-style rice is pretty good, right? I ordered it when the store was about to close. I guess the leftover ingredients were given to me. It was a big surprise. I was so angry after eating it.
I recently ordered here through Uber Eats, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. Not only did my order arrive late, but when I opened the bag, I discovered that one of my dishes was missing entirely. When I contacted the restaurant to ask for a refund or to have the missing dish delivered, they refused to do anything about it and told me to take it up with Uber Eats. I found this response to be incredibly disappointing and unprofessional, as the mistake was clearly on their end. Not only did I end up paying for a dish that I never received, but the lack of concern for their customers was a major red flag. I wont be ordering from here again and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone else.
Ordered takeout, forget one dish, the other main dish taste sucks, like just bad, no words to describe honestly. Basically ruined my dinner, will never eat/order here again, not recommended for sure
unique chinese southwest (yunnan) cuisine.
The dinner of Chinese cuisine was a fantastic experience that I enjoyed with my friend after work. The ordered meat dishes were juicy and flavorful, and with each bite, the satisfaction increased. The Mapo Tofu had the perfect balance of spiciness and a tantalizing taste, making it an excellent complement to the rice. The dishes were not only fulfilling, satisfying my appetite, but also pleased my taste buds. Additionally, enjoying a cold beer alongside them helped alleviate the tiredness of the evening. The authentic cuisine and friendly atmosphere made it a wonderful place that I would love to revisit.
Tasty
B s restaurant at 4:30 pm on June 16th, the Guangdong waiter Lao Deng s attitude was as if he owed your mother money. He started showing off his face from the moment he walked in. He insisted on squeezing into a small table. The other tables were all empty and refused to sit down. He said that they were fully booked and he didn t want to sit down. Change the table and tell us to either sit down or not eat. There is no service at all in Kajia Yunzhinan. If everyone in this store has this attitude, they should close down immediately.
Best Chinese restaurant in Calgary. I have been in Canada for almost 10 years( I used to live in Maritimes). This is my first time to have authentic Chinese food like this level. Not only was it so authentic, it is also very tasty. It is even better than some of Chinese food I had in China. There is a stereotype about Chinese food in the west that it is all about chowmein and dimsum. What North Americans dont understand that China is such a big country. Food from different province are so different. Im from Hu nan province originally. I love spicy food. Never had authentic and good spicy food in Canada except this restaurant. I still cant get over the fact that I had authentic Chinese food like this in Canada not in China. Hands down the best and authentic Chinese restaurant in Calgary
Best Chinese food I ve had in Calgary. Extremely authentic and a lot of variety.
This is legitimately one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants out there. The food was amazing and staff were super kind.
Parking: The restaurant gives you 3 hours of free parking! Food
Tried for a quick lunch. The soup base is tasteless and the noodles are overcooked.
This was an amazing authentic Chinese food experience. I had a chance to try many of the dishes with friends. My favorite was the spicy Yunnan style lamb, but the fish soups were amazing. This is really good food worth bringing a group of friends to taste many of the great dishes available.
Portions are extremely small. For 23$, the beef dish I ordered had 15 pieces of small beef and the rest was celery. It wasn t even that tasty to make it worth it.
My aunt ordered pick up for me and prepaid, but they had given the order to someone else. After claiming it was our fault they refused to refund us and kept saying they would call us back until they closed. Their customer service is trash if they even decide to serve you lol
An employee at this restaurant came out to tell me and my friend to remove our car from a parking spot that had the restaurant sign for customers as soon as we stepped out the car. He kept saying that the parking spot is private and when we asked him how he knew we weren t going to the restaurant, he responded that because it s a Chinese restaurant. We asked him if black people weren t allowed into a Chinese restaurant and he kept quiet and still asked us to remove our car. We moved our car and another lady employee immediately came out with a Wet floor sign and placed it in the parking stall. It s such a disgrace to see public places treat people this way! I would absolutely not recommend this place on the mere lack of basic courtesy, hospitality and profiling!!!!
Room reservations available for orders of $200 for 8 or more people Taste is good too
This is one of the worst Chinese restaurants I have eaten in recently. I ordered only the recommendations on the menu and none of the 6 dishes were delicious.
I used to go to the one on 14th avenue, and sadly its closed. I came here with my mom as I bragged about the old one all the time. We found the food was just alright and not as spicy as what I used to know.
This restaurant is really delicious, large portions and affordable. Two people order a lot of dishes for less than 40 per person. The porcini fried rice, rice noodles and grilled fish are great. I don t like the braised chicken with taro, and other dishes are a bit salty but Its delicious. There are few waiters but they are all very discerning. They come to help immediately after beckoning. I highly recommend it. I am determined to try all their menus!
It feels good. When parking in the parking lot next to it, you need to enter it on the machine inside the restaurant. It is free for 3 hours.
Maybe the chef has changed. It tastes terrible. Really. And its not cheap either. It cost more than a hundred for two people.
Had high hopes for this place as a yunnan born person hoping to try hometown delicacy and was utterly disappointed. We ordered the thai style spicy potato chicken, sliced potato pancake, sizzling spicy tofu and dai style coconut drink. First off nothing quite matches the photos except the potato pancake and coconut drink sorta. Second, the spicy potato chicken was marked 3 chilli peppers but was not spicy at all. Traditionally the spicy potato chicken dish is not supposed to be sour, but this one was surprisingly sour, not sure if thats the thai style part, but it really tasted like someone was experimenting and threw in random spices. The potatoes were also oddly very unpotato tasting, hard to describe but its hard to mess up potatoes, not sure what was wrong with their potatoes but the texture was really weird. Out of the dishes we ordered only the potato pancake and coconut drink was good, but the others were so disappointing and a little gross halfway into the meal once the novelty wore off. Wasnt planning to leave a review but the meal left my stomach in pain this morning as well. Highly do not recommend, perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes but these were traditional yunnan dishes that a yunnan restaurant really messed up
The food is served quickly and the waiters are very patient.
Just really good authentic spicy food And a surprisingly good tea Food
Food was really tasty with good sized portions. My partner and I had a few different dishes and all of them tasted great and had authentic flavours. Will be back to try more in the future.
has improvement than before
First time trying this store. Its pretty good.
Very good food, fast service and friendly. Kid-friendliness: Non-spicy alternatives
Hidden Restaurant packs a punch! I had been warned earlier that I will not find a decent Kung Pao chicken in Calgary. At least as good as we find in the USA. I tried the Kung Pao chicken here and I can safely say this is the best Kung Pao chicken, I have ever had anywhere in the world. The chicken fried rice was as just as delicious. What surprised us along with the food, was the wheat tea they served. It had a taste, that was nutty, a tiny bit fruity, and spectacularly aromatic. The ambience was superb and oh my god, the service - brilliant. The food came out quickly and we had 2 wonderful hostesses. One of them even educated us about the origin of the dishes. Overall, a fantastic experience and they will get my business again. 5 stars for this restaurant is not enough. Parking: Parking is validated
Everything is perfect, except the parking lot is not safe. My window smashed, and there was no video/ camera at Indigo parking lot #053.
Always delicious food!! Serving is slow a little bit.
Hands down, the best authentic Chinese restaurant in the city. Ive gone several time with family and friends. Staff are very friendly and the food is truly devine.
The food is SOOO good, must try the mutton and thousand year egg salad!
As far as Im.comcerned, this is the BEST place for all food Chinese.
Waiting for food now. Its been almost 40 minutes, and I was just told that the chef is having lunch, so I have to wait a little longer! ! ! FFffffffffffffffffff
Beautiful decor restaurant. Have lunch with friends here and love their VIP room (there total over 10 rooms) Huge menu with lots of choices. Price is very reasonable and taste is good. Owner and waitress are so friendly and helpful, explaining about the food items and recommend the dishes to me (as I cannot eat spicy). Love their
This is one of our favourite restaurants in the city. Huge choice of delicious, flavourful dishes served by friendly staff in the interestingly decorated space. We keep coming here and keep bringing our friends over for never disappointing experience.
The food is delicious and good place to try different culture dish. Parking: Free parking if you are dining in
Me and my partner were going to stop by one day to try it out, but as we were driving around the building trying to find parking we saw them cutting meat at their back door (not in a kitchen), and then another day saw them using a meat smoker in the alley way. Thats so disgusting. I have just reported it to Alberta Health Services as well. This is disgusting. Do not go here.
Coming to Calgary from Banff, I wanted to eat Chinese food and came here by chance. 1. The decoration of the store is very thoughtful. After all, many things are not available in Canada. This is the best-decorated store I have seen. 2. The food is served quickly and tastes very good. I think glutinous rice cakes and smoked bamboo shoots and bacon are delicious. 3. There are many choices of dishes, which are relatively rich. I have eaten in many Chinese restaurants in Canada. The taste, price and environment of this one are relatively better!
Amazing experience at this place. The food was incredible and the staff was very friendly. We ordered 3 dishes all of which came out quickly and were absolutely delicious. I only went with my girlfriend but I wish I was with my whole family so I could order more! Haha. The owner even surprised us a beautifully unique dessert dish. 10/10 overall experience.
We chose this place cause it was a quick walk from our hotel. If we re in Calgary again, we ll choose it for the food! Everything was SO delicious, the spicy eggplant was so buttery and perfect. The service was amazing, friendly, and we were checked on often. We met one of the owners and chatted with her for a bit, such a lovely lady! Thanks so much for everything, we ll see you again if we come back to Calgary!
Great Food Good service Nice environment Will come back soon
love the taste and the decoration.
Love the interior and the food. But the service is horrible. I think they need to get more staff. The lady took our order and food came quick but we got no service after that. Nobody ever came check on us and it s impossible to get a glass of water. They made eye contact with us and we tried to wave them down but they just ignored us.We had to go to the front to get to go container and pay our bill. The restaurant was packed.
The best Chinese Restaurant at Calgary!! Really enjoyed the authentic best Chinese food that are offered in one place. Love the Crispy pork, fish, Gong Bao Chicken, especially the dessert flower cakes, so unique made of rose flowers. The portions of the dishes we ordered are huge. Definitely the best authentic Chinese food. And super friendly service. Thanks for everything!! Will come back for sure.
The rice noodles taste good and worth eating. Beef curd with tofu is also okay. The pickled pork is really disappointing. Most of it is vegetables and the only meat is a few shredded pork. The kitchen was understaffed that day, so the rice delivered was uncooked. The stores attitude was good and they made up for the mistake.
I cant claim to be anything like an expert on Chinese cuisine. All I know is that I lived in Asia for a while as a kid, and since then Ive really struggled to find Chinese food that reminds me of what I had there rather than Westernized versions of it (which I also like, but just isnt the same). At South Silk Road I get what Ive been looking for: beautifully flavoured regional dishes that I just cant stop eating. Ill be making a pilgrimage here regularly.
Very busy place but food was good
I said I didnt want coriander, but the waiter thought I didnt want the food, so I waited for an hour without food. At 4:30 in the afternoon, there were only two tables with people dining. There is no discount for making such a mistake, he is so good at doing business. Waste of time, super bad review.
Food is delicious, waiters are nice. My family really love this restaurant.
Very very traditional Chinese food. Little bit spicy. If you can accept spicy and interested in the real Chinese food just come and try. Almost all the dishes were delicious.
The material the restaurant used is great since my friend is from Kunming who told me.
Authentic Chinese cuisines mainly from Yunnan and Szechwan. One of our favourite restaurant in Calgary. make sure you order . Looking forward to Karaoke in one of those private rooms.
Exceptionally good food, with a friendly staff. A huge boon to the neighbourhood!
It s the first time I ve seen fried bacon fried with bacon. It s all made of yuba and vegetables. It s really unpalatable. The braised duck smells like a refrigerator and is very stale. This level really ruins the Yunzhinan brand! Highly not recommended
The food is unappetizing...the price is on the high side (as for the stores reply regarding the plates, I ordered takeout and put it on my own plate when I got home, the photo is attached)
Weeks have passed, and I still thought I went to a fake Yunnan this time. Several of the dishes that the waiter brought had a lot of shriveled residue, so I had to wash them with tea myself, thinking silently: These have been sterilized. A grilled fish plate and plates and bowls took up most of the small table in the private room, so I asked if there was a larger table. The waiter said, I can tell the chef to serve the food more slowly, and one plate after another after finishing the meal! Suddenly I felt that he was so smart! I ate it quickly and left. Now I can t remember the taste, so I have to give it a low score. I was a regular customer so please dont blame me!
The food was not delicious. Some of the dishes were deceptive. Bacon was used as bacon. The environment was crowded. The chairs were not strong and rotten. I fell down.
We ordered their Szechuan spicy chicken, the chicken were very boney and half of that dish was just red peppers. As for other dishes, it was not bad.
The taste is good and the portion is very generous. I personally recommend the cold rice noodles. It is very suitable for eating when the weather is hot and you have no appetite.
A very delicious shop!
Seems like the owner has changed, the food was way better before. You will not be getting authentic cross the bridge rice noodles here. Overall very salty as well, chef has changed also? The amount of food you get is very worth the money though.
Food was good, big portion, decent price too. We had Gui-zhou style tomato fish soup, cold noodle, sizzling spicy tofu and griddle cooked chicken with pepper. The tomato fish soup and cold noodle were authentic and tasty, good presentation of the cold noodle on the bamboo ish plate. I liked the spicy tofu a lot too. They have a big menu, lots to offer. Floor was dirty though, there was either water or oil underneath our table, didn t get cleaned the whole time.
Please please send your cooks to a school for training. Thank you.
First of all, the food was not good, the mutton had too much cumin, the chive flowers took a long time to taste, and the beef stew was not tasty. Secondly, the environment is average, and the background music while eating is grandpa and aunt singing karaoke. Yun Zhi Nan in Kajia is a store I will never visit again. I recommend the Yun Zhi Nan in Vancouver.
Tastes good
Pretty authentic Yunnan cuisine, good value for the price.
The food is large, the taste is authentic, and very NICE. I ordered the fat intestine hot pot, pickled fish, Maoxuewang, pot pork, Kung Pao chicken... I was so full that I even had dinner!
Great food and services
Went for team building dinner tonight. This location is terrific! The best Chinese dishes in Calgary. Also they have so many private rooms could let us share the joy (even have karaoke system!!!) without distribute other guests. This will be our first choice for team building.
This is the most authentic Chinese food I have ever eaten. I ordered a lot of dishes and everything was perfect, especially the shredded potatoes and pot-roasted pork, which were great!
This cozy Chinese restaurant is highly recommended!!! The atmosphere is chill and cool, the food is authentic and delicious, I enjoyed every bite of my meal. The private VIP room with karaoke is perfect place for gathering and celebrations.
Calgary Chinese restaurant ceiling, highly recommended
I was very disappointed. I ordered a takeaway and it didn t arrive 2 hours later. I called politely to inquire about the status of the order. The lady who answered the phone said in a weird way that you should come and get it earlier! After that, he hung up the phone on me. I used to like Yun Zhinan very much, but I am really angry today. If you had a slightly more friendly tone, I would not be so angry that I would go out of my way to give a bad review.
The food is greatly delicious and the staff are pretty friendly. They have big VIP room and Music Instrument, free parking. Great!
Really its a 5 star based on the one item I love.(and previous visits for the same) Lemongrass Grilled Fish, flavor overload (of the really savory spicey flavors). I have had other items (also good), but am hooked on this dish. Food : 5/5
Really disappointed, the taste has completely changed, I wonder if it s because of the change of kitchen or the owner? The food only looks good, but has no fragrance or taste, and even the soup is pathetic. No wonder I went there during holiday dinner time and the booths were completely empty... I used to have to queue up. I feel sad that Calgary has lost another delicious restaurant. Restaurant now Really disappointed, the taste has completely changed, dont know if its the chef or the owner? The dishes are only good-looking, have no fragrance, no taste, and even the soup is poor, no wonder there is no one in the box on weekends dinner time... They used to queue up, I feel sad, Calgary has lost another delicious restaurant again
A few friends and I went there and we all felt sick after.
Been to this restaurant twice so far. The first time maybe we didnt order correct dishes, so the food was really okay but kinda expensive. Second time we ordered different dishes and the fish in sour soup is really good. The other fried pork dish with honey lemon and the salty egg with pumpkin are surprisingly good. The signature Yunan rice noodle was really so-so, first time it was good, but the second time the rice noodle was way too soft - either cooked for too long or sat there for too long before serving. Maybe a different chef? Anyway it is definitely a good authentic Chinese restaurant if you pick the right dishes.
We dont eat any spicy food, despite that, we visit this place because their non-spicy food options are also very tasty and of good quality.
Good Schezwan Chinese restaurant with lots of private rooms and good service. Food is authentic, spicy, but not too spicy. Portions are of good size.
Ive been to the new store three times with my friends since it opened. The whole store feels fresh and new, and the food is generally okay. Green pepper preserved egg, cold rice noodles, and Heisan Chop have a consistent quality every time, but there is no lotus leaf cake in Heisan Chop every time. The grilled fish is a bit fishy, so it is not recommended to order grilled fish. The taste of Maoxuewang is okay and the quantity is large. The bean curd beef brisket is very light and tastes good. The ice powder is delicious, and everyone will have a serving of ice powder every time. I hope the store will pay attention to the hygiene at the bar. Sometimes while waiting for a table, I see unwashed dessert cups and other things on the counter, which is quite unappetizing. However, the waiters and cashiers are also very busy, so they probably don t care. Come on
Food quality no longer as the best as before. Everything else is great.
Spicy Chinese food
Real nice Chinese food. One of the best in Calgary. Parking: Restaurant provide free 3 hours parking when register your car plate number. Food : 5/5 |
