Santorini Greek Taverna in Calgary

An established Greek restaurant. It has been here for a long time. We go there whenever we want Greek food in the neighbourhood.

Food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant seating is a little cramped though.

Our family first time at Santorini Greek Taverna. We were so impressed with our meal (taverna special). Family style meal which provided the opportunity to experience many of their great dishes. Our waitress, Maria L was amazing and made our families birthday celebration such a great night. We also loved the cozy athmosphere. We definitely will be back along with recommending this place to our friends. Thanks Maria and to all your family and staff!!

Been wanting to try this for a while. Went tonight and was pretty disappointed. I mean food was decent, but lacked flavour. Server was nice overall service was lacking. Waited 45 min for our mains and wasn t worth the wait. And prices were not worth what was given. I am grateful for the fact that it is family owned and I got to eat food, just think they can do much better. I won t be coming back.

Just left this awesome establishment and can t say enough good. I had made a reservation, but booked the wrong amount of people. they still accommodated us. It was packed and the service and food were absolute amazing. Go here, you will not regret it! Enjoy

We had a lovely dinner tonight at Santorini. We shared the couples platter for two, which was to die for. The food was fresh, and even the simplest parts (rice + potatoes) was so unique and delicious! Our service was friendly, kind and genuine. They even gave us baklava on the house for dessert! 10/10 would go back.

Wow, that was probably the best meal I ve had in a long time. I ordered the lamb chops, I don t even have words to describe how delicious they were, only Greeks know how to make the best lamb chops. My husband got the mussels and I think he drank the sauce after because it was so tasty! The staff were all so great, always checking in and I love that the owner or manager came by to say hi and to thank us for dining with them. I love the Greeks!

We loved this place. The service was excellent and the food was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked.

If you re not a regular customer be prepared to feel it. Upon entry, the waitress wanted us to follow her upstairs however the owner said downstairs. The feeling was, save the good spots for others. Even mentioned upon entry we were from out of town and had a reservation. Food was definitely overpriced and if you didn t order a starter you would be hungry after you left. Chicken souvlaki was lacking potatoes, 3, quarter halves the sizes of child s thumb. Rice portion was 3/4 of a cup but lacked flavour. Chicken was just ok. The noise in the restaurant was loud from other patrons that the owner was entertaining, was so loud we couldn t speak to each other at the table without raising our voices so we didn t talk much. Waitress and waiter, likely the owners children were very attentive. We have had plenty of Greek food, the best we had was in Germany, where the owner would give you a shot of ouzo at the end of your meal and appreciated your business and you as a customer, a little chit chat goes a long way, regular customers or returning customers. The noise got to us, we couldn t get out of there fast enough. It s not just about your regulars, treat all customers the same. You never get a second chance to make a first impression

A group of 15 of us came for my birthday dinner and most of us partook of the Taverna Special. OH MY GOODNESS! It was utterly fantastic! Sooooo much food, and all of it delicious! We ate saganaki (I seriously dream about the saganaki here), pita, hummus, tzatziki, meatballs (you need these!!), salad, kalamari, spanakopita, roast lamb, chicken and roast potatoes! Everyone was STUFFED and happy! Not only was the food incredible but the staff were wonderful! Attentive, friendly, generous and a real pleasure with every interaction! Santorinis has never disappointed on any level!

Thank you to Rolandos and his amazing staff, its a must when I visit Calgary. Family wedding dinner on Sunday for 19, the food is undeniably the best Greek food I have ever had anywhere in Canada including Toronto, Windsor and London (Detroit too). I am Greek-Cypriot and can tell you this Taverna is as authentic as it gets, it felt as though I was in Cyprus. We will always come back.

A very authentic Greek experience.

Excellent Greek food. We had the chicken souvlaki which was well seasoned and tender. The saganaki and spanakopita were very good; the pastry was nice and crispy on the spanakopita. The baklava was one of the best I ve ever had. Prices are reasonable with good service and nice atmosphere. Can t wait to go back.

My partner and I have travelled to Greece and ate alot of Greek food back home in Australia. Santorini Restaurant is an excellent place to visit. We were both highly impressed with the quality of food, service and atmosphere of the venue! The food was fresh and and tasty whilst the waiters were attentive and easy to talk too. We highly recommend a visit if youre in the mood for some authentic Greek cuisine

Excellent Greek cuisine! Had a craving for Greek while traveling and happened to pick this place, and was very glad we did. Everything we had was top notch across the board. Delicious, good presentation, great service. If I have any complaint at all, its that the prices are a little high for the portion sizes (except the Moussaka which was a gigantic piece).

Loved the hot and cold appetizer plates, and the saganaki.

Very tasty food, the atmosphere took me back to Grecia, I could not be more happy with the service!! I recommend this little oasis of happiness to everyone!! Prices are fair considering the quality of food, way to go, chef!!

My wife and I have wanted to try the restaurant for quite some time, and we are so happy we did! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was made to feel like you were dining in Greece! The food was fantastic and cooked to perfection. The spanakopita was some of the best that I ve ever had! We both highly recommend this place.

Food was absolutely incredible! The chicken skewers were super tender, tasty, and had not one bit of fat! We also had the hummus and which were wonderful too. Rolandos, the owner, made the experience all that better! You can show the pride he has in his restaurant. Atmosphere was great too! Be sure to make a reservation in advance! 10/10 would absolutely come back!

Hands down some of the best fish Ive had in my life.

Food was average. The place has an unusual and slightly unpleasant odour. The preparations were very average and not with the cost. I would recommend skipping this place. There are plenty of other options.

Easily the best greek food I have ever had in my life. The owner of the restaurant was also extremely friendly and helpful, despite how busy the restaurant was at the time. I highly recommend Santorini

Great food, great service. You can tell they try very hard to keep the bar high here. Very relaxed atmosphere serviced by well dressed and attentive staff. I only had a couple of suggestions. If they want to charge $10 for a beer it needs to be ice cold. Mine arrived coolish. The other thing is the acoustics are not the best in there. Id recommend putting sound baffles on the walls to absorb all the echos and fast moving sound. I found it very noisy for this reason and that was a big distraction for me.

Last minute choice for dinner with my son. We definitely were underdressed for this somewhat upscale restaurant (they have table clothes). Food was a bit pricey BUT worth every penny. You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the love that goes into preparing it. Definitely will return!! I had the chicken souvlaki with rice pilaf and Greek salad ($34 because I substituted for salad) and my son had the pastichio ($26). Sorry no photos. Dietary restrictions: I am gluten intolerant. They dont say they offer gluten free but I know what items to pick that would be less likely to contain or be cross contaminated.

We had the most amazing lunch here yesterday. We had just landed into town and happened upon this adorable, fun, friendly and amazing spot. Mariana was our server and she explained all the different options. The owners stopped by the table to greet us. We mispronounced everything. And loved it all. The meatball app was insanely good. Same for the eggplant app. We fought over whose souvlaki was better. But I think my prawns won. Honorable mention to the beef and lamb. They brought us over two desserts. The best baklava I have ever had and some hot puff cream filled concoction that I will dream about forever. Then told us dessert was on them. What a treat. Highly recommend this little gem!

Randomly decide to go to a Greek restaurant and this was super close. Got the metaxa brandy which was delicious! Shared the taverna special which came with 7 plates and every single one was beyond delicious! The staff was also very friendly and will definitely come back! Thank you very much!

I had not been here is many years, even though it was always a favourite. We had family in town for a graduation and went on Saturday night as a group of 12. I was so happy that the food and service was exactly how we remembered. Our server (Luca), was amazing as was the support staff. The food came out in a timely manner and more importantly it was fresh and delicious. Great job Santorini

One of the best Greek meals we have ever had!! I would say the best dolmades ever. The platter for two is wonderful.

The food was SO Good that I didn t even have time to take a picture before we absolutely inhaled everything we ordered. We had the saganaki, spanakopita, and chicken souvlaki for lunch. Shared between two people. Perfect portions! Salad was fresh. Chicken super tender. Tatziki to die for. So good!

Amazing food and service, never once had to ask for a refill on a drink as the servers were very attentive. Beautiful interior and the chef always makes sure everything is to your liking. In the mid range for price but certainly worth it. Definitely check this place out! Also the owner is such a friendly man and always makes sure youre having a good time Parking: If you cant find parking in the main parking lot, look for street parking nearby. Its free past 6: 00pm on weekdays

This is THE BEST GREEK IN CALGARY. This is not an exaggeration! Been here 4 times now from far out of town, and every time the food is so flavourful and delicious. We just beat their closing time with a pickup order, and the food was just the same as every other time! The service is always friendly and wonderful. I went 30 years of life thinking I did not enjoy Greek food, Ive tried multiple different Greek restaurants across Canada and never felt any different. My friends picked this as a dinner spot and it changed my perspective. Every other Greek restaurant feels like a bland imitation in retrospect. If you like Greek food, try this place. If you dont like Greek food... Try this place anyway.

Everytime we come here the food never disappoints! The atmosphere is great. The staff are very friendly and takes care of you. With our most recent visit, we ordered the seafood platter for two. It was very filling! We will definitely be back again!

Without a doubt the best Greek restaurant in Calgary if not the best restaurant in Calgary. The food is excellent and consistently of high quality. I felt like I was in Greece with the decor and ambience! Me and my husband loved it - we ordered the combo for 2. Best souvlaki we ve had, tenderly falling off the skewer and moussaka was to die for too! I really came for the bougatsa dessert which is one of my fave desserts. It was alright - it had a lemon-y taste and it was individually rolled in phyllo and not as a slice (from a pie). I was not too fond of it but we also ordered baklava which was amazing!

An excellent meal with attentive staff and friendly atmosphere. The only draw back was a lack of vegetarian options.

We attended as a larger group celebrating 2 birthdays. The place was busy but the wait staff was able to attend to all our needs. The food was very good. The place really gets bustling which only adds to the atmosphere. We enjoyed it immensely.

The best lamb chops on the world. Cooked/made to perfection .

Looked forward to going back after a long time away. They were able to seat us despite being crazy busy, but still with a reservation. A 15 minute wait seemed like quite awhile for an initial drinks order, so we worried that was going to be the standard set for service. We weren t wrong. We ordered the calamari and saganaki to start. The calamari was beautifully tender and the saganaki was delicious, but our server s lighter didn t work, so we didn t get the full saganaki experience. That was disappointing. We ordered some pita and tzatziki too and both were yummy and fresh. For the mains, we ordered two souvlaki - one beef (medium rare) and one chicken. Greek salad is noted on the menu as an addition for $4, so we asked for that. Apparently that meant we lost the potatoes, rice and steamed veg sides for one of our souvlakis. So we had to pay extra for salad and lost all the other sides. Seemed weird. Everything was flavourful, but our server clearly forgot about our food since it arrived barely lukewarm and the beef was very rare. We didn t say anything because we had plans to be elsewhere. If the server hadn t taken another 15 minutes to bring us our bill, I d rate this experience higher. Pretty disappointed overall after a very long time away. We ve had a better experience up the road at Calypso.

4 of us ordered Taverna Special last night. It was an incredible feast!! $48 per person is such a generous deal for the variety, quality and quantity they serve. We were all impressed with every single dish. I was particularly amazed by their calamari. Its not an exaggeration to say it is the best calamari Ive ever had. The squid was succulent and the breadcrumb was so light and crispy. Great service and quaint atmosphere.

Always drove by here and wanted to go in. The interior is cozy and atmospheric, very well thought out. The room is paired with Greek music that sets the tone very well. Service was respectful and very well paced. Very nice people! Food was all delicious, no complaints. We ordered the Taverna special and prawn Souvlakia. Servings are huge and well prepared/and presented. Haven t had this much fun eating out in a while. Would definitely come back.

I visited this small, cozy restaurant and loved the warm atmosphere. They have a small bar offering Greek drinks and other popular options. Even though they dont have beer on tap, it didnt affect their great service. The food was outstanding! I had the roast lamb (ARNI KLEFTIKO) - it was juicy, tender, and delicious, served with rice, potatoes, and tasty fried vegetables. The moussaka was also fantastic, and the baked béchamel (white) sauce on it was unbelievably delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful, recommending I try Ouzo, which turned out to be a delightful drink, though similar to Turkish Raki. I also tried Mastika, which was a bit too sweet for a spirit and felt more like a liqueur. Despite that, it was a good experience trying something new.

Tried this place on a quick trip to Calgary. Kind of a cozy place with some Greek decor. A lot of interesting stuff to try. Ordered a sampler type meal. The meat was good and the greek potatoes were good too. Satisfying meal.

EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL! If you never tried Santorini, this is your sign to go and give it a try. I enjoyed all the foods we ordered, not a single thing that I don t like My top 3 would be Mousaka, Spanakopita and Saganaki! There was a birthday celebration too that night and they were celebrating with smashing plates to the floor and dances It was very memorable!

First time here won t be my last time, very delicious food full of flavour service was awesome small intimate atmosphere all the other staff would drop by and say hi top up water and make sure all is well!

Hands down one of the best Greek meals we ve ever had!!

What an amazing meal and experience! The food was so fresh and delicious!!! We were served by the owner, who was excellent, kind, attentive, and professional. He shared a lot about the restaurants 30+ year family history and even gave us some baklava ice cream to try, which was one of the best desserts I ve had. Lovely environment as well, with authentic eclectic Greek decor that the owner explained has been around for decades. This was our last meal while visiting Canada, and it was everyone s favorite!

The food tastes very good. However the portion is small and price is little expensive. Parking: Lunch time the parking lot was almost full even thought not a lot of people in the restaurant.

We could have stopped anywhere in Calgary for lunch. We made the right choice. Authentic Greek food. Did I say delicious?

My husband loved Greek food so every year we remember him by going out for Greek food. For the past 14 or so years, we have been going to Calypso Taverna but tonight for some reason, it was closed so we found ourselves at Santorinis. Now being a Calgarian, I definitely know Santorini as it has been a staple in Calgarys restaurant scene for quite some time now. The restaurant is distinctly Greek. And that is a good thing. We had a nice table on the main floor. We didnt have reservations but the place was not that busy when we first arrived shortly after 6. However, around 7 the place started filling up. I would suggest a reso if you want to go around this time. We ordered all appetizers. The hommus was the first to arrive. The first thing my daughter noticed was the presentation. Most hommus she has been served has olive oil on top and often an olive or two, at the minimum, some parsley. This was rather plain looking. However, it was obviously homemade and quite tasty. The pita breads were hot and delish. The next dish to arrive was the Kalamaria. Again, the presentation was lacking. Even just parsley would have made it look like they cared. But once again, it was very tasty. The batter was light and crispy while the squid was very tender. The tazikik sauce was a great addition. We needed another sauce before we finished. The next dish were the ketethes, Greek meatballs. We were expecting meatballs in a tomato sauce, although the description does not say anything about any sauce so this is on us. Take a look at the picture of them. That is a totally unappetizing dish. They did taste better than they looked but the look of them had already turned us off a bit. Next were the prawns in garlic wine & butter sauce. The prawns themselves were big and nicely cooked and the sauce was tasty enough. They did not wow us though. The bright light of the whole meal was our waitress. She was exceptionally upbeat and smiling. We were not the most engaging customers tonight. But I could see from her interactions with other patrons, she really took her time and enjoyed the chat. After each dish was served, she waited until we had tried it and then came and asked if we enjoyed it. She was very sweet. The bill was hefty but I felt it reflects todays insane food prices. Parking: Parking is located beside and behind the restaurant. There is a rear entrance.

Ive driven by this place so many times and finally went in to give it a try. We were here for a birthday dinner so got to try a few things. Good was really good and the entree portions are generous. Staff was amazing and explained the menu very well. Will definitely return again.

Santorini Greek Taverna has been in Calgary as long as I can remember. So its a huge surprise that this is my first time visiting. The food is spot on. Service is excellent. We had a couple platters so we could try everything. Calamari and Mousaka is our favorite. Lamb chops were also delicious.

We dropped by here on a whim and had some lovely hot appetizers. We enjoyed the saganaki the most, but the dolmades, keftedes & tzatziki, and mussels were very on point as well. We also loved the pita bread, probably the best pita bread weve had in Calgary. We didnt like the marinated octopus cold appetizer enough to want to order it again, it was quite plain and required a lot of lemon to liven it up. The spanakopita and stuffed egg plant were all right, but not our favourite. We tried a Fix (Greek) beer and that was a new and interesting experience. The service was great and we didnt want for anything.

It was an experience! Food was amazing, I suggest the lamb. The staff & guests danced a little and smashed a plate or two. It was a great vibe, the food & people were amazing! Food

Both the roast lamb and chicken souvlaki were salty. For the price we expected more than 1 potato cut in half and the veggies were overcooked and soggy. It was busy so perhaps our expectations were too high Not good value for money.

Wonderful experience at Santorini. My boyfriend and I came for an early 2 years celebration and couldn t have been happier. Incredible atmosphere, amazing wine and food, and great service from all the staff. Made us feel like we were in Greece!

Fantastic food and service but a bit noisy and tight seating. Highly recommend the Traverna meal

What an awesome experience from beginning to end. Louis was amazing at making sure we were completely taken care of. At the end of our meal he even brought us the homemade bachlava ice cream to try in addition to our bachlava dessert. It was as OMG delicious! I ll definitely be back bringing friends and family to try this amazing place.

From our greeting to our bill was an amazing experience. The service was fabulous,the food was fabulous and the ambience was delightful. We basically ordered 3/4 of the appetizer menu as we wanted to try a little bit of everything and it was all delicious. The staff were friendly and engaging. My only disappointment was that I didnt have enough room for more food.

The food was AMAZING. We tried 6 different appies and every single one had us wishing we had room for more. Cannot wait to go again! Also, the host and our waitress were friendly and wonderful. Very welcoming.

They slipped us in quickly without a reservation, the meal was unbelievable. Roasted lamb served with the bones, the meat fell off and had the perfect taste. Would recommend.

Had a Saturday night dinner here and the food, service and atmosphere was great! Busy night for them so that tells you they have alot of happy people! We were a party of five and all enjoyed the food. My first experience at an authentic Greek restaurant and they hit it out of the park. Recommend to experience their hospitality.

Great people and the opa birthday celebration rocked

Hadnt eaten greek for a while and had the craving. This place fulfilled my need.

It was ok but won t be returning. I feel like the meals are quite small for the price. Too bad they do not have options for single skewers - the server mentioned only taking 5$ off the meal if we wanted just single skewers (so around $17 for a single skewer???) I asked to skip the rice then and add more salad - ended up with rice and tiny salad anyway. Didn t have time or patience to complain further. $90 dollar lunch is a little excessive.

Great fun, celebrated my birthday with ouzo and dancing. The place was packed and noisy, but wait staff were terrific, fast and responsive.

With a wide variety of menu options, including some items not commonly found, fresh ingredients abound with the home style vibe and service. Just wonderful. Very friendly people that make you feel welkom. And the food is just amazing. Definately will come back again when we are in Calgary. We are from Europe and had several vacations in Greece. The taste here was just as i remembered from these holidays. Santorini Thank you very much for everything.

Genuinely the greatest experience my wife and I have ever had in a restaurant. The servers and owner were so very friendly, and wonderful with us and other guests. Our water was never empty, they came by and checked on us very regularly. Every course was amazing, and the pacing of the meal was perfect. We ordered the Taverna Special for 2 and the dishes were made perfectly. The lamb and Greek salad was especially good. Near the end of our meal, the music changed and they invited us and some other guests to join in some traditional dances and plate shattering! The atmosphere really feels like youre in Santorini, and it was definitely a night to remember! To top it all off, our server brought us a complimentary baklava for an occasion we were celebrating. On a quick note, be sure to make a reservation because this place is popular!

We ha the Taverna Special. The portions were generous and the experience was delightful. Dishes coming at different time was a great experience. Everything exceeded expectations. Parking: Plenty of parking on the back. Very convenient.

I do not normally do a review unless it was exceptional, and this place is. The taste was excellent and authentic. The service was fantastic.

We ate here for the first time and the food was amazing. We got the Taverna special and everything we tried was spot on.The roast lamb was falling off the bone and the lemon potatoes were incredible. The Saganaki was a real treat. Im not normally into meatballs but Ketethes was perfectly seasoned and their Tzatiki is to die for. Weve never had Bougatsa but it was the perfect dessert to wrap up the evening. All the food was timed perfectly. Our server was attentive and great with recommendations. Everyone that dropped off our food or cleared plates was so kind and friendly. There was a real family restaurant vibe. Highly recommend!
